Hey! The personal art train has been incredibly slow lately due to me being absolutely swamped by commission work this past month (thank you so much everyone!), but I’ve been chipping away at some design tweaks for Austri here and finally finished them today :D I told myself that I wasn’t going to do a full sheet, and then promptly changed my mind once it started going well xD I swear these sheets only get longer, haha!

I think the first version of her design was perfectly serviceable as it was so I didn’t change a ton here, but I felt I could give her better overall shapes and commit more fully to the jellyfish inspiration, particularly with her hat. Her first ref sheet was from 2019, so she was due for an update anyway. She’s somehow even more adorable than before :’D Enjoy! ---------- The constellation symbol for Piscis Austinus was originally designed by Denis Moskowitz and released to the public domain.

A Master Detective with an expertise in visual trickery, specializing in stalking cases. Their Forte is Will-O-The-Wisp, a power honed to create a perfect holographic replica of themself that can be commanded through thought. However, the hologram cannot touch anything, and any directly applied pressure can destroy it. He’s surprisingly easy-going, preferring to roll with the punches and come up with plans on the fly rather than prepare in advance. His thrill-seeking lifestyle often places him on his lonesome, so they tend to find company in their own holograms. Anyone unlucky enough to be in his vicinity are likely to be roped into his spontaneous plans, as they’re always searching for a helping hand and potential friend. An Amaterasu hitman highly trained with poisons and close-quarters combat. Specially selected from a group of freelance hitmen alongside Hitman Zilch/Aide, they adapted quickly to Amaterasu’s hostile environment. They valued their camaraderie with Aide as much as the money they were paid for their services. Unfortunately, as Aide became more infatuated with Director Yomi, Lieu was forced to settle for a strained fellowship. They allowed themself to reminisce on the good old days to fuel their work ethic, in hopes they could rekindle the alliance they once had by jumping at any chance to show off. After Aide’s death, however, Lieu succumbs to their nurtured pride and is dead set on filling in the hole that his passing left in the peacekeeper division.

Tbh that spot GS Technician shows Team Snakemouth looks like it would make a good picnic spot. If you ignore all the lesser bugs on the path, that is. Also, they're holding the foods they mention liking when you inspect Fry!

16. Original Character

At this rate, this is just gonna be me infodumping about my OCs buuut. Here's Team Thornbush! They were intended to be Team Snakemouth but Fucked Up And Evil, but I couldn't think of an evil version of Leif so they're just a much worse Team Mothiva. Lobeelia, the leader, is Vi's worst traits dialed up to 11 - she's a proud thief who uses her stolen crossbow to threaten those around her into submission and treats her companions like mere obstacles. Jacques is a beetle from the North who had it beat into his head as a grub that he was only useful if he was helping someone else, so he's extremely selfless to the point of self-destructive tendencies and would gladly give his own life for Lobeelia's. Like Cenn and Pisci, they aren't real explorers and just do whatever gets them berries.

20. Wasp

Yet another OC, this is Rusty the Ampulex ferruginea, who - like Hoaxe - was orphaned at a young age. Instead of being adopted by (other) wasps, however, they were mistaken as an ant and adopted by an ant couple. Even after their parents discovered they were actually a wasp, they still treated them like their own flesh and blood. They're currently a guard working at the Rubber Prison, in charge of handling the more rowdy inmates. Being a solitary wasp like Zasp, they weren't affected by Hoaxe's mind control and fought back.

Redraw of one of my favorite scenes from Chapter 4 with my Team Snakemouth humanizations! The reason Leif's hair covers their eyes is since their eyes are technically hollowed out in bug form, in human their eyes are permanently rolled into the back of their head. Fun stuff /s

Fish's overseers are normal, actually!

he starts turning them back on during the Tinkerer's "campaign" (i've been thinkin how to turn the story and my scugs into campaigns lately, first comes Tinktink and then Seafarer)

the FUNKY thing that showed up in one of the pics with the baby scav is a completely different thing, actually!

based off of one of the images that Iggy randomly flips through in the game, i present you pearl delivery drones or, by the proper name, Pigeon Drones

their function was originally essentially the same to a carrier pigeon. they can hold on to one pearl and deliver it somewhere- they were mostly used between the residents of the iterator cities. gotta get that comfortable life goin, yanno. they are present mostly with the older iterators, Gen 1s to around the middle age of Gen 2s (Fish is an early Gen 2). so Pebbles, for example, wouldn't really be familiar with these! they went out of style and practice when citizen ID drones got the function to call other ID drones

Pigeon Drones were one of the first things the iterators tried using to communicate between each other without the broadcasts. they look far too much like weird overgrown batflies though n gon snapped up by just about any wildlife too often to be reliable, so the idea got discarded. and that made way for NSH and his invention of slugcats as messangers

in the Tinkerer's campaign the player can find a Pigeon Drone while exploring the Marketplace of Piscis (Fish's city). that can be then taken to Fish, he fixes it, tasks the player to bring him one of his neurons which he then inserts into the drone to power it up and also to extend his consciousness into

from then on the drone (basically Fish himself) trails after the player, guides them to Tinkerer's story points, can be used to distract predators or make them move out of the way or it can be given a pearl which it will then deliver to Fish's puppet chamber safely. Tinktink and Seaf are stuck on high rep with the scavs and cannot harm them, so the drone is supposed to be one more way for the player to keep colored pearls out of the scavs' reach. naturally this means the player will be without the drone until they make their way back to Fish again where he then reads the pearl for them. the drone has an estimated number of cycles before it makes it to Fish, so if the player is faster they can actually beat the thing to him (passages wouldn't work for this)

She acted as the body double for Nahida during her house arrest by the sages, posing as her the entirety of it and making sure no one was suspicious of the Sages plans to usurp Nahida.

During her time posing as the Archon, she…was HEAVILY watched by the sages to a point she was separated from her family and there was a wedge driven between her and her brother as well as her mother for a time. She was already riddled with Eleazar as it was which made her incredibly tired and sick all the time so all she wanted during that time was her mom.

Iesha was incredibly lonely growing up, and even now after the events of Sumeru she HATES being alone and will cling to her family as much as possible.

Her abilities were brute forced onto her as she grew in order to make the ruse believable. It's connected to her emotions so it does get out of hand at times tbh. (This is also how she achieved her Vision)

She was almost killed during the Samsara cycles. But during the coup to free Nahida and stop the false god, she acted as the decoy to draw the Corp of thirty to Dehya and the eremites.

Iesha…also gets lost easily (she does NOT know her way around Sumeru ;; )

DMC OC Week 2023: Day 3 - Past, Future, and AUs

Finally, some things from Day 1 are about to make a bit of sense.

Vigilex: The Fish Man

Past

Vigilex’s soul belongs to a fish; a small fish not too dissimilar to an earthen piranha. It dwelled far beneath the waves of Hell’s most major ocean, feasting on the corpses of sinking demons until they fell too far and the water became too dense, too heavy, too salty for Diaboli Dente Piscis. It lived with its school as most fish did, and would have lived a long yet uneventful life most likely. This particular fish and its particular school had nothing special that set them apart, they were simply in the wrong place at the right time. The soul that would later become Vigilex was similarly unremarkable. Wrong place, right time.

It took quite a couple years for the kinks between cross-wiring a fish soul to a clay body and the server memories to communicate. A fish does not know how to move arms and legs, nor does it know how to see the world as a human might. It took much trial, and many errors to preserve both the body, mind, and soul. A fish cannot process humanoid demon memories. There were many times the body began to deform on itself, and the memories became corrupted. Eventually, the entity known as Vigilex was able to sustain itself.

The soul, when not in use, was kept in the fish, who lived in a water tank with the rest of its school, the water tank was properly regulated to simulate how life used to be. The memories were, as always, kept on separate server ranks, and the body kept in a tank of much saltier water, hooked up to various magical devices to regulate its demonic energy. 

Vigilex as an entity slowly came into his own, and never falls apart nowadays. The more Vigilex seems to remain as Vigilex, the harder it may be to separate the pieces again.

Future

In most timelines, Vigilex’s future is bright. In those he shares with Avalon, it may be wrought with mourning, but surrounded by friends. In lieu of Dante, Vergil, Nero, and Roman finally putting an end to Mundus’ reign, he gains his independence from both the king and the hivemind, granting him the autonomy he always wished for. 

It is a mysterious future, but one he looks forward to discovering. What might his purpose actually be? And what would he do, if he could go back? Could one even impart life-changing assistance… onto a fish?

AU: Reboot Vigilex

Much like in his canon iteration, Vigilex’s soul is not his own. It is that of a damned prisoner in the sea of souls; the teal expanse that sits under the dream-like sequences where Dante unlocks and tests out new abilities, around the statue of Assiel. This soul had most likely spent its last years being wrung thin by the Central Penitentiary before being discarded into the ocean when it no longer provided enjoyable suffering.

Vigilex is a demon known as a Siren, an infectious idea that is placed on a soul, where it festers and manifests, reanimating into the body of which that soul belonged to. Sirens are spies that, but like their name suggests, lure folks back to the same sorry existence that plagues the rest of humanity. Vigilex was created to watch over Avalon; a conspiracy theorist who seems to be getting too close to the truth, not that anyone much cares for a disgraced raving lunatic.

Everything goes to plan, for a while. Vigilex’s body belonged to that of an indie rock artist with a taste for rebellion, which is quite a strange sight to see, especially when said rockstar wishes to listen very intently to one’s findings.

Vigilex observed and listened, making notes on what exactly Avalon does and doesn’t know, does and doesn’t get right, and promises to see him again very soon. And that time is very soon, which is when the previous plans begin to seem… infeasible.  Perhaps there is a wisp of the prisoner that still lingers within this body; perhaps it's the sudden burst of emotion that Avalon shows compared to the rest of humanity, but he can't... stop... looking at him. Listening to him. Vigilex is just... enraptured by him.

 To compensate for the length and the intensity of the watches, Vigilex somehow managed to plead his case to King Mundus that becoming Avalon's boyfriend will make him more manipulatable and vulnerable. Which... technically it will, but the last thing Vigilex wants is to put Avalon at risk.

He even revamps the prisoner's old band. It's just Vigilex though. The Band is called "The Guardians", and the logo is a front facing fish skull with deer antlers and it's mouth open.
