Finally HOW ABOUT any prompt from the 'to the hurt' section of the hurt/comfort ask? I don't wanna limit you with character choice too much, so how about something involving either August, Eliana, Lampwick, Mignon or Eugene?
AS I ANTICIPATED TO YOU there was only one dynamic that clicked when I was leafing through the list of prompts sorry ashdjkafhkajlshf
Hurt/Comfort Starters
“Shhh, it’s alright.”/“I won’t let anything happen to you.”/“I’ve got you.”
Pinocchio runs.
He doesn't mind. He's good at it. His feet make an awful lot of noise when he does it, but it gets better once he's gotten to the woods and the ground is mostly mud and grass, and there's no one around to hear him anyway - he fled before anyone could catch him, and he even left Gina behind, even if she was squawking and calling after him.
That's fine, too. She probably wants to go back home, whether he does so or not. Better Pinocchio gets out of the way before she starts feeling guilty about her decision.
He goes pretty deep into the woods, all things considered, but he has to stop after a while, to catch his breath and rest his legs. He doesn't like it - it'd be better if he could just go far far away and disappear for good - but it can't be helped, and some distance is better than no distance, at least.
Of course, if the fairy wants to get him, she will, wherever he is. She always has. She might send that stupid wind to bowl him over again, or a bird of prey, or-
The sound of footsteps cuts off his train of thought, and Pinocchio whips around, heart stuck in his throat, thinking he's finally been caught- but it's just August, as breathless as he is, leaning against a nearby tree as if trying not to collapse.
Unbidden, tears start welling up in the boy's eyes. He hates that it's so easy to make him cry, but he hadn't expected to be reached so soon. Actually, he'd expected August to get sick and tired of running after him, like old Geppetto had been. That he came so quickly- it's kinda worse, in a way. It just makes everything worse.
“Go away,” Pinocchio shouts at him, even though his voice breaks. “I'm not coming. Leave me alone!”
August doesn't react, instead looking up at him with wide eyes. “You alright, kid? Are you hurt?”
The boy shakes his head, trying to bite the tears away. It's a stupid question. No one's hurt him - not here, at least. He's just dumb enough that he thinks he can escape on foot from someone who came from a whole other world to get him.
He can hear August sigh in relief, then the man takes a couple steps closer, slow and careful. “Good. That’s- that’s good. You shouldn’t be going so deep in here alone- lots of magic around, you know?”
“There’s lots of magic over there too! So I’m not- I’m not going back. You can’t make me.”
“No one’s making you go anywhere. Remember we told you that when you came to Storybrooke? We wouldn’t- I wouldn’t lie to you about that.”
Pinocchio believes him, he does. It’s just that that doesn’t change anything. “But she is gonna make me. She can do that. She always does that.”
That’s why he wasn’t surprised when the good fairy showed up. It made sense, that she’d be able to come to Storybrooke on purpose, even if he did by mistake. She has all sorts of powers, and she uses them to find him even when she doesn’t tell him, like when she was the white dove and almost let him break his legs into a wall because he was fooling around mid-flight. If she says he’s going back to where he belongs, he knows he’s got no choice.
August, though, doesn’t seem half as convinced, and even chances a small smile, crouching down at Pinocchio’s eye level. “What’s she going to do? She’s just one fairy. We have plenty more around here, and we have Emma. And the mayor.”
It’s not that simple, but by then the boy’s sobbing too hard to say anything that makes sense. It’s so much easier to stumble forward and let himself be picked up, clinging to August like a desperate little spider - the woods are good for hiding, but it’s scary, to be in there all alone. It reminds him- it reminds him-
He knows full well what it is that it reminds him of. He’s just too much of a crybaby to admit it out loud.
August shushes him gently as he stands up, cradling Pinocchio to his chest, and it’s nice, really. Even old Geppetto never held him like that, because he weighed too much. “It’s alright. I won’t let anyone take you anywhere, I promise. I told you once- you can stay for as long as you like. It’s all up to you.”
Pinocchio rubs at his eyes, even though they’re wet again in a moment. “You said I could go to school. A real school, and that I’d get help with my numbers.”
“Of course. When the next semester starts- I’m getting everything sorted out, you know that.”
“But if I go with the good fairy, I can’t. She’ll make me learn my numbers alone again. I don’t want to learn alone.”
August is quiet for a long moment, just enough for Pinocchio to start thinking he’s said something wrong. Then the man says, very quietly: “I’m about to ask you something, kid. You don’t have to tell me, but it would help, if you did.”
He waits for Pinocchio to nod, haltingly, and then continues, “I want you to tell me everything you remember about your time with this fairy. Do you think you can do that?”
Pinocchio can, and when he starts, he can’t stop until he’s truly said everything. It’s like the words were just sitting in his mouth, waiting for him to open it to pour out like a river. He tells August about the house in the woods and the tree and the dog chain, and the white dove and the tomb, and the wind that took him away from Geppetto, and the time he came home to the fairy after the men at the tavern made him drink that funny stuff and she just locked the window of his room. He talks and talks and when he’s done he simply collapses with his face hidden in the crook of the man’s neck, exhausted, waiting for the latter to tell him he’s just making it all bigger than it actually was, like Rocco did.
Instead, what he gets after a few seconds is a hand rubbing at his back, soothing and comforting, and August’s voice saying “Thank you. That was all I needed.”
Pinocchio can’t resist sneaking a glance upwards at that, all but gaping. “You believe me?”
“Of course I do.” August grins down at him conspirationally, even as he turns around to head back to town, his wooden charge still in his arms.
“And there are a couple people who’ll want to hear all about it, too, if they need to help us get rid of your fairy. Actually, once they’ve heard, I’m pretty sure they’ll want to get rid of her, just as much as you and I do.
“Now come on. Let’s get somewhere nicer. You don’t worry about anything- I’ve got you, I promise.”

Funny thought that I may or may not expand into its own one shot later:
Gemini and P body swap.
Like, just imagine how Gemini would react to having an actual humanoid form and taking advantage of that immediately.
Meanwhile P can only watch in silent terror at the trouble Gemini gets into while looking like him. I mean, P gets in trouble all the time, but it's a different kind of trouble where the other residents of Hotel Krat just become utterly confused at "P's" suddenly more extroverted behavior.
Example:
Gemini (waving and doing all sorts of expressive hand motions while speaking): Heya Eugenie! How are you doing? You having a good morning so far? Watcha workin' on by the way? Oh, and good day to you Spring! Who's a good kitty?
Spring: *cautiously backs away from Gemini and retreats, hiding behind Eugenie*
Eugenie: I...uh...are you feeling okay P? Are you sick???
P (whispering): Gemini you're supposed to be acting like me.
Gemini: Oh, don't worry Pal. I got this!
P: I...*chirps and sighs as he gives up*

I think getting mad over race swaps when it comes to Disney live-action movies is such an arbitrary thing. Like, my guy, they'll go back to being white in a couple of months, why you mad?? None of the live-action remakes ever get heavy amounts of influence over anything past the hype months. It's not something worth getting mad over.

Figaro was Walt Disney's favorite character in "Pinocchio" from 1940. Disney pushed for the kitten to appear in the film as much as possible. After the film, Disney swapped Minnie Mouse's pekingese Fifi with Figaro, starting with the cartoon "First Aiders (1944)." Figaro also got his own series of "Figaro" cartoons beginning with "Figaro and Cleo (1943)." He would have four cartoons of his own, two appearances in the "Pluto" cartoon series, and also appear in the promotional animated wartime short "All Together (1942)," for a total of seven cartoon appearances. This, plus the one feature film "Pinocchio," makes eight appearances of Figaro overall.

As time goes by, I realized Ace is always left behind from Deuce, Yuu,and Grimm whenever something seriously happened. In Glorious Masquerade, Deuce was chosen and Yuu and Grimm were invited because of Grimm begging which left Ace behind in school not knowing they were in serious danger. In the White Rabbit festival, Ace was too busy to come to Deuce's hometown which made him the only member not to join in. The starlight event has Yuu,Grimm, and Deuce help with the wishes. And let's not forget that the second Halloween event in which Yuu and Grimm aren't that active where Ace has to rescue his friends only to learn about Malleus being behind it with the help of Yuu and Grimm even to the point that Ace looks deeply upset and felt frustrated that everyone forgotten about what they done and just party.
Sure there are times where Deuce was left behind while Ace isn't but it is shorter compare to the reverse. Like Ghost Marriage, Deuce volunteer only to be slap by the ghost and gotten himself stun which is only a short time they were seperate, Fairy Gala is more of a what if scenario. The latest stitch event seems to one event where the danger is high without Deuce and include Ace given they were trapped in the book. But if you compare to Deuce and Ace, seems like Ace is always left behind and that times in seriousness is Yuu and Grimm mostly with Deuce than with Ace.
Unless the Pinocchio event will have Ace join in with Deuce, Yuu, and Grimm (Given the chance he might have the event card since he wasn't included in the Masquerade event or the possibility that Ace is still not included but more in his perspective like the second halloween event), seems like Ace is a bit left behind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean... maybe so (although personally, I don't see it)?? But I don't think it's with any malicious intent or to indicate that Ace isn't important to the friend group. It's probably just the devs having to come up with excuses or circumstances (ie "Ace was given an invite, but has basketball practice so he can't go with them to White Rabbit Fest") due to the predetermined limitations placed on the game (ie "welp, we already have our 4 limited characters for this event, so no space for Ace"). All of the examples mentioned were events, which are pretty limited in the boys that can be included as the themed cards. Some of the event stories just wouldn't play out as well if Ace is expected to swap in or to be present every time Deuce or Yuu/Grim goes somewhere. (That would also just unfairly give Adeuce more event cards than any other boy.) Yuu and Grim didn't even necessarily spend "more" time with Deuce in some cases (they went around checking in with every group in Glorious Masquerade). I also think Ace's absence in that particular event was well-utilized for a funny punchline, so it's not as though nothing came out of his exclusion. I'm sure his role and Deuce's will eventually zero out anyway, since the next Halloween event will give him some screen time (although not necessarily glued to Yuu/Grim at the hip). If you think about the events Ace or Deuce have been features in, they often being up the other boy or actively go out of their way to get a souvenir for them—the other guy is out of sight, but definitely not out of mind. I don't believe Yuu, Grim, and Deuce were always necessarily caught up in "serious danger" or high stakes either (Wish Upon a Star and White Rabbit Fest, for example). In the case of Endless Halloween Night, Deuce was possessed by a ghost and was also separated from the others (with Ace as a rescuer and Yuu and Grim as part of the pranking group). I think Ace's frustration in that event wasn't even totally directed at his friends for "leaving him behind". In Ace's Halloween vignettes, he expresses upset at Malleus for not understanding the gravity of the situation and for making him worry about the safety of his friends. (We also see many instances of Adeuce, Yuu, and Grim hanging out on a regular basis in these vignettes, which clues us in to just how much time they already spend in each others' presence. A few events apart isn't a big deal compared to how often they see each other regularly.)
Ace definitely does get his own moments to shine (Ghost Marriage, Lost in the Book with Stitch, and Fairy Gala: If to a lesser extent; he even gets to meet Yuu and Grim in the prologue before Deuce does), whether that's in the presence of Deuce, Yuu, and Grim or not. I don't think the others' absence really adds or takes away anything from Ace's character.
Just because the group splits up sometimes or aren't always depicted together doesn't detract from their friendship or mean one person is being neglected. The characters are all individuals, not monoliths expected to always hang out with the exact same people. It's nice to see them as a unit, of course, but everyone needs time apart too. I don't even know if "left behind" is an apt term for most of these instances; most of the time, the characters are not traveling super far away or deliberately leaving Ace out from the festivities. He's still around, just not playing as big of a role due to how the events are structured.

I think the reason you rarely ever see dimension 20 swap aus is because you can't really decide whether to swap the players as well. (Is specifically only talking about the intriprid hero's this time.)
Cause a gorgug With Figs characteristics would be VERY different in Zacs hands then in Emily's. Each of the players has a very iconic through line with their PC's.
Zac plays weird little guys who ultimately always mean well though smug shy anxious or yk. Just skip.
Emily plays loud outspoken characters typically learning they're enough as they are. Weird girls!! Fucking love an Emily brand weird
Ally plays some ironically bitchy characters. Usually growing into their identity in unfortunate circumstances.(Liam, Kristen, Hell if you wanna stretch it Tim too. Him learning about the book though I do really have my issues with tim.)
Lou usually always plays a team player. Profoundly stupid or profoundly out of their depth but ultimately kind people who have their helping of issues. (Pinocchio is my personal favorite. He's a drifting child.)
Murph. Sweet should never roll ever again murph plays characters who have already gone through their downfall and have to pick themselves back up again in time.(Riz, Barry) Or bad people who have to learn that they do kinda suck. (Gerard, Cody, Kugrash) Theobald is also there. I love him.
Siobhan MY FAVORITE. Siobhan has her own brand of weird girl but God she is really good at playing girls who are learning that the rules and ideas they had before are sometimes going to be broken
Ultimately each player has their own flavoring and honestly it's really cool. Just makes silly little aus a bit of a stretch of da ol noggin

This book of fairytales has a different emblem on its cover, and different, darker ink to write its stories. But the heroes on its pages are the same-- in spirit, if not in image. (Or: The beginning of a Neverafter Swap Au)
Finally got back to this au! Read for six fractured fairy tales, six new designs, and one new ominous world!

What's your favourite nat 20 moment from D20 series? Especially in the Intrepid Heroes seasons.
Mine swaps regularly between "the house always wins" in ASO and Fabian in the arcade game (FH:FY)
(yes both of them are Lou rolling Nat 20)
Yes Ally rolls poetic and game breaking Nat 20s during the seasons, so they get more credit in the fandom. But the other IH give natural 20s as well.
For example I think Zac and Lou in Neverafter had so many good clutch natural 20s. .PiB getting the death blow mechanic often, PiB getting everyone's book from the library and saving Pinocchio from the Step Mother, hence saving everyone else. Lou throwing away a Nat20 for a bit and it was hilarious. Pinocchio getting a Nat20 against the Baba Yaga echoing the Pinocchio getting a Nat20 against the Stepmother when he was alone.
Starstruck - The house always wins. . That was Zac line echoed by Lou as he rolled the dice across the table to Murph. But also Zac just getting a Nat20 on ruining a soldier's life. . the dice just went that the line was perfect here is a Nat20. "Why would that be mine? You pulled it out of your pocket"
A Crown of Candy - the crits aren't really celebrated that often but my favourite one has to be the death blow to Cal from Amethar.
To this day I have no idea how Lou rolled a nat 10 then a nat 20 in that arcade fight... That was a pure chance and a perfect moment. Honestly what got me hooked to Fantasy High in the first place.
Then across to Junior Year. . I think Riz (Murph) got the poetic natural 20 of the season. . the natural 20 and the legend lore combo made me confirm my love for The Fantasy High world.
Honestly The Unsleeping City. .I'm still working through chapter 2 at the moment. .. but the natural 20 from Ally against The American Dream, pretty much the only one I can think of .

I was thinking about these species swapped lab rats designs again. What if they switched around naming conventions too :]
Ramblings under the cut <3
So to be clear, the details that get swapped:
From Moe - living cartoon, has some short, old-fashioned name
From Ollie - genetically-altered human, named after flower/plant
From Rat - demon from hell, uses scientific animal name 👍
So we have swap one:
Moe -> Aster- Human given toon powers via science, only a partial success. Wears a plastic cat mask and can never keep their shoes tied. The cartoon violence is a little more unsettling when they still look human.
Ollie -> Insecta- A demon of envy working under Beelzebub, very proud of her work. Commands an army of little demon bugs. Secretly very fond of human things, but she swears she's totally not staying up here.
Rat -> Dick- Cartoon mascot that came to life as part of some experiment in the 20s, broke out of containment to become a Real Boy. Like if mickey mouse had a pinocchio arc that involved naming himself a swear. Tends to drip ink.
And swap two:
Moe -> Felis- A cat-like imp with supposedly "no alignment", escaped from Hell and having a hard time blending in with humans. Trying to be a nice little guy, but sadly they are tall and scary. Spikes at the end of their tail may be poisonous.
Ollie -> Olive- Cartoon bug person created in a lab accident (i want to say spiderman-style, "bitten by a radioactive cockroach", but idk how that'd work ><). SO much stronger than she looks, will throw an entire car at you. Extra set of arms tucked under sweater.
Rat -> Thyme- Test subject with a little bit of rat DNA in him. Got disease-controlling powers out of it, but it turns out the human body doesn't handle that well. No one can tell when you're sleeping if you're always wearing sunglasses.
Now, the fun part about the labs' inter-dimensional bullshit is that canonically these characters could show up in the lab. Not that I'd actually pull some comic book "fighting alternate universe selves" thing. Unless I really run out of ideas. But it's an option!
