patches and stuff that i made (and didn’t!) for my wtnv jacket :3

little project Ive have that’s been in progress for a couple years :3 more details below the cut

glow cloud patch, this is just scrap fleece that i colored with old copic markers and hand sewed :) also tiny animals + beads that i stuck on there with fabric glue. the glitter is this holographic glitter paint that i love? i use it on everything.

(left) void patch is just canvas + paint marker and safety pins. the pin above it is from the attic tour, and the pin on the collar is from the haunting of night vale ^_^ the babydoll parts are earrings but i don’t usually wear earrings like that so i repurposed them

(right) eyeball pin is polymer clay and made by me, angel pin is from ultrainfinite on instagram :) little name tag is a repurposed gift card that i just painted and glued over :3 the cecil drawing is meant to resemble me a little more than the cecil i typically draw lol.

patch and sheriff badge are from the wtnv merch site, cowboy cat pin is from pinkgabbercat on instagram. the fake flower pins are technically for a different project but this is their home until i’m ready to use them for the other thing. the little eyeball emblems are made from a linocut stamp that i created a few years ago for a different project

patch for the back!! i rlly love how this came out, the dark purple is an old pillowcase and the moon is the same scrap fleece that i used for the glow cloud. my hand sewing ia kinda fuckass but it adds idk. plus glow in the dark stars!

i made the king city patch a while ago but it’s just canvas and paint pen too i think. plus fly pins that i also made!! little desert landscape button is magazine paper scraps. the cactus and house pins are from the tours i mentioned above, and unfortunately i cannot remember where i got the possum patch :( this is the back right panel of the jacket, for the back left panel i wanted to make a dark owl records patch eventually

i hope to have a little something from all the books on here at some point! something for each of the villains too (which u can see i’ve already kinda started with the beagle patch in the very first image)

this project is still super unfinished!! i have a desert bluffs jacket too that is also still in the works, so i’ll maybe post about that soon too!!

A while ago @pinkgabbercat (one of my favorite artists on Instagram), was doing a very cool fundraiser for @brooklynbailfund and @micasaresiste where in exchange for donations, they would provide custom illustrations. I was really excited to participate by donating as well as receive a custom piece from an artist whose style I really admire. Overall, this whole experience has got me thinking a lot about what I can personally do to make a positive impact in the community. Even the small things we as individuals can do can have a huge impact. I would encourage everyone to think outside of what is ‘normal’ by spending the time to raise money, awareness, or engage in discussion around the protests, black lives, police brutality and the intersection of these three topics. We need to keep talking about what’s happening, because when push comes to shove, nothing changes if nothing changes. - Also please check out the @pinkgabbercat Instagram because not only is their work amazing, but they’re also helping to support a great cause. Post Two- Inktober

As previously stated, I decided to complete an inktober challenge to give me time to think about what I wanted to do for the rest of my placement. After researching numerous artist prompt lists on Instagram, I decided on Weird-Witchtober which was a collaboration list by AlexFink and PinkGabberCat. I decided on this prompt this because I was a fan of both artist’s work and thought that the prompts were suited to my illustration style. This prompt list had a different prompt for everyday of October. I have completed different inktober lists for the last couple of years, so I decided that this year I would put less pressure on myself to complete a prompt everyday and more effort into completing higher quality illustrations.

 I felt as though having less pressure to create a large quantity of illustrations during a short period of time meant that I was able to be more thoughtful about each prompt. I tried to complete the prompts in a way that reflected my illustration style and was personal to me. For example my illustration for ‘folklore’ I researched Welsh tales and created the illustration based on the tale of the rush fish of the river Conwy. 

I also decided to create each illustration using traditional media such as pens, paints and inks. I did this because since starting university I have been developing my digital illustration skills but have neglected hand drawing, and because of this have felt that I have lost some of these skills. By completing this prompt list by hand I think that my confidence with using traditional media has increased. I tried to use a variation of media to work on a different amount of skills. For the prompt ‘celestial’ I used line art rather than the paint pens I used for the prompt ‘folklore’.

However, I encountered issues with time management when completing this list. Despite not putting pressure on myself to complete a prompt everyday I aimed to achieve most of the prompts. Due to having other commitments with also completing my dissertation I ended up not being able to complete all of the prompts. I felt disappointed that I wasn’t able to finish this list but learnt that I would have to have better time management and organisation when having two deadlines due at a similar date. I think that I also need to work on prioritizing what work needs to be completed first in order to get both projects achieved and be at a standard that I am happy with.
