Twilight Saga Headcanons - What They Smell Like
Requested by: no one
oOo
The Cullens:
Carlisle takes great pride in his grooming, but tends to go for scentless soaps because some of his patients have allergies. Always somehow smells a little like disinfectant when he gets home after work. He somehow smells very ancient, like incense and a scent you might discover walking through an extremely old and dusty church.
Everything about Esme smells delicate. Her favorite scents as a human were floral and light, like lavender and rosewater. Definitely has an aroma of perfume that trails after her, though she doesn't wear any.
The only way to really describe Edward's scent is clean. Icy cedar, fresh snow, and oranges. It's a pure, subtle scent.
Rosalie's scent is arguably the most powerful. It isn't strong, but it's enticing. It's like warm Tennessee Whiskey and dripping honey - a scent that's designed to seduce and draw you in.
Emmett would absolutely smell like Axe body spray if Rosalie would let him wear it - she doesn't. It stings EVERYONE's noses to an insane degree. Overall, though, Emmett smells like warm velvet, like a blanket you've just pulled out of the dryer.
Even after all this time, Jasper still carries the faint scent of gunpowder. There's something about his scent that stings, like mint and eucalyptus.
Alice smells like salt and coconut, like a sweet and windy beach day. She also carries a light scent of sparking ozone, but it's so faint that sometimes they all forget that it's there.
oOo
Wolf Pack:
Sam assumes he smells so much like food because of the many hours spent in Emily's kitchen. Sam is warm honey mixed in with steaming oatmeal; fresh bread and maple syrup.
Jared used to smell like leather because of the jacket he always wore to school, but that was destroyed years ago when he phased. It's an extremely manly scent mixed with vanilla and amber.
Paul's scent is very warm and spicy, a natural and earthy woodsy musk, like the soil after a heavy rain. It can tingle your nose, but it's still very attractive.
Surprisingly, the one who smells most like the outdoors is Embry. His whole body is tied to the scent of patchouli and pine; it's a very nature-based scent.
A lot of Jacob's scent is mixed in with how much time he spends around cars, so you'll get a whiff of rush and metal and probably motor oil, but it isn't unpleasant or off-putting.
Tobacco is the leading scent for Quil, which he assumes is because of his grandfather. He also smells very much like ginger and cinnamon.
Though she's never been a big reader, Leah smells like old books and paper. It's a bit of a dusty scent, but goes well when mixed with her favorite vetiver lotion and body wash.
Seth has a very bright and welcoming smell, like cinnamon sugar or a freshly baked pie crust. It's a smell you somehow always associate with your childhood, but you can't put your finger on exactly why.

Note
What are the signature scents of the LI's, Connor, and Noah? What shampoos, conditioners, lotions, colognes, and perfumes do they use?
Abel
Abel usually smells like cinnamon and coffee, because he loves cinnamon cookies and drinks way way way too much coffee. His preferred scents are more citrus and fresh scents. Things that smell clean and bright, like fresh laundry and oranges. His favorite products are his hair products, which are many and varied. He loves his shampoo the best, though. He spent years finding the right kind that wouldn’t damage his hair. He takes a lot of pride in it, and it smells like olives.
Amalia
Amalia likes ocean and tropical scents. Usually her products smell like coconut, banana, kelp, things like that. She has a particular fondness for things that smell more natural and less chemically, so she doesn’t usually buy cheap products. Her hair care routine is extensive, and she doesn’t skimp on what she likes. She likes her products to smell good, but also to do their damn job. She also has a favorite perfume she uses almost daily that smells like the beach.
Connor
Connor usually smells like motor oil or woodsmoke, but that’s not what his soap smells like. His soap is very much cedar/pine/timber, all kinds of woodsy smells. The Westchester woods have not been kind to him, but he loves the outdoors. He works with his hands, with metal and cars and fire, and he likes to be outside when he does it, so he likes to smell like the outdoors too. His favorite product is his amber and cedar cologne, which ends up on all his clothes so they always smell like him.
Lincoln
Lincoln is a very clean guy, the kind of guy who never goes to bed without a shower and brushed teeth, likes fresh clothes, and who loves getting a bed with clean sheets. He doesn't skimp on the products he uses and has very particular hair and skin care routines. So he usually smells like his soaps, which he prefers warm, fresh, woody scents for, like sandalwood, pine, and cedar. He also frequently smells like disinfectant, due to frequent use and close proximity at his tattoo shops, and ink, because when not tattooing he enjoys doodling with pens.
Jocelyn
Her scents are a mixture of the products she uses as well as the smell of the outdoors. While she goes with pretty basic products, she prefers warm, floral scents, particularly that derive from plants of Chinese origin, like lotus and lilies. She likes the smell, and it makes her feel close to her heritage. In addition to the scents of her soaps, shampoo, and perfumes, she doesn't have a car, so she walks everywhere and she enjoys going on long runs outside. Because of that, she also smells like the trees of the Westchester woods and sunlight.
Noah
Noah is a smoker, so probably the most identifying scent of his is cigarette smoke. The products he uses are also pretty basic. He doesn't think too hard about the products he uses for his hair or bodywash. Probably uses head and shoulders, honestly, primarily odorless products, and then uses a woody-scented old spice deodorant.
Matthias
He smells like money and betrayal babyyyy. Just kidding. I'm just tired. He's very clean and pristine with always freshly pressed clothes. He smells fresh and crisp, with a spicier type of aroma like mint.

Soaps
Origin from Plants
Many native plants, especially those with waxy cuticles, contain saponins which are steroids that dissolve in water and create a stable froth. Saponins are named from the soapwort plant (Saponaria) whose roots were used historically as soap.
The earliest evidence of soap use dates back to 2800 BC in ancient Babylonian clay. Egyptians (1500 BC) bathed regularly with soaplike substances made from plant saponins combined with animal and vegetable oils. Handmade soaps are often made using fats such as olive oils with lye. Animal fat mostly in the form of tallow is still a major component of many soaps, but plant oils have become more important in soap production. Two palms, the coconut palm and the African palm, provide the bulk of the plant oils currently used.
Soaps made from plant oils often dissolve very quickly and produce excessive lather, so tallow has been used to create hardness in some mass-produced soaps. Palm oil has been found to be very similar chemically to tallow and can be used to replace the animal fat. Plant oils such as cedar wood, rosewood, and rose are often added to soaps to impart their scents.
The fruits of several native North American plants contain sufficient levels of saponin to produce lather and can be used as soaps or shampoos. This group of plants includes:
Atriplex roots,
Sapindus fruits,
Mojave yucca root,
Soapwort root (European species), and
Buffaloberry fruits.
Hollyberry and Mountain Pine Soaps Hollyberry and Mountain Pine Soaps. Photo by Teresa Prendusi.
Soapwort (Saponaria officinalis)
This herbaceous perennial which can grow to a height of 1.5 m (5 feet) was once widely used in Europe for washing. The great scouring qualities of the leaves and the juices that are produced as a result have been described in many early herbals. The leaves and roots when rubbed or boiled in water produce a green soapy solution that is used for cleaning very old and delicate fabrics. Soapwort is used today in some gentle skin cleaning products.
Buffaloberry (Shepherdia rotundifolia)
The buffaloberry plant was widely used for its medicinal properties. The high levels of saponins made it an ideal source for natural cleansing soaps and shampoo. Silver buffaloberry fruits were boiled into a tea that was consumed by hunters to cleanse their souls and provide them with good luck in the hunt. The high levels of saponins in the fruits can cause intestinal distress and were not consumed in large quantities.
Soapweed Yucca (Yucca glauca)
As the name implies, the crushed roots of soapweed yucca produce a lather that makes a good soap or shampoo. The lathering substances called saponins are found in many plants, but are exceptionally concentrated in yucca roots. In addition, the dried leaves of soapweed yucca can be woven into baskets, mats, or sandals. The strong coarse leaf fibers can be extracted to make cordage.
Soap Plant (Chlorogalum pomeridianum)
Chlorogalum pomeridianum, called “wavyleaf soap plant,” “soap root,” or “amole,” is a low-growing plant of California and Oregon. It is used as soap by the local peoples. The bulb of the plant is easily recognized: a brown, fibrous bulb a little larger than a person’s fist, with a white, pliable heart. When crushed, this heart yields soap.
Amole is a generic Spanish term for a plant-derived soap; other plants of the Southwest have this name. Sources say that it makes excellent laundry soap for delicate fabrics, good shampoo, dish detergent, and bath soap.

Black Salt Recipe
Tumblr media
Ingredients
Egg shells
Salt (any kind)
Charcoal or firewood ashes
Pepper (optional)
Directions
Clean the egg shells with some soap, let them dry and crush them with your mortar and pestle. Work it until you have a very fine powder. Use a kitchen strainer to filter out the big pieces.
Crush the charcoal and mix it with the egg shell powder.
Add ashes from incense or burned herbs (optional). You can also add ground black pepper.
Add the salt and mix it well.
Why This Spell Works
You can easily make your own black salt following the recipe below, and you can use it anywhere (at home, workplace, jar spells, etc). These ingredients give black salt its strong protective powers.
Salt – Any type of salt will work. Salt brings protection, especially in and around the home. It is also used for purification, cleansing and dispelling negativity in many traditional rituals. Salt can also be used to release attachments, including emotional attachments.
Charcoal – This will give the black salt its dark color. Charcoal represents the purifying power of Fire to burn and banish anything negative. You can use ashes from your fireplace (firewood or charcoal), but if you don’t have access to a hearth, use incense ashes or ashes from herbs that you’ve picked and burned yourself.
Eggshells – They represent the protective layer around new life and are a very strong protective influence. Eggshell powder is also known as cascarilla and has many magical uses.
Uses of Black Salt in Witchcraft
As you may know, salt has many magickal uses and a long history in rituals of purification, protection and blessing.
Some witches like to pour black salt on window frames and doorways to protect the home.
When you cast a spell, pour a pinch of Black Salt in each corner of the room, before beginning the ritual, to ward off any negative entities.
Place it on your altar to add power to your spells, meditations, or daily wiccan practice.
Use it for cleansing or consecrating crystals, amulets, tools, circles of protection, and more.
When you have a visitor at home and can feel a negative energy, sprinkle a pinch of the salt after they leave to clear away the bad vibes.
Use it as a protection ingredient when casting banishing spells, or any spell that uses regular or coarse salt.
Black Salt is also said to be a key ingredient for creating a hex, binding, unbinding or curses.
Tips
Make sure you remove the thin white membrane layer of the eggshells so all you are left with is a dried, clean eggshell. Peel the inside membrane and toss it away. Then rinse them with a little soapy water and let them fully dry.If adding ashes, you can burn one or more of these protective herbs. Make sure they are fully dry before you burn them:
Bergamot, cedar, cypress, lime, lemon, myrrh, juniper, rosemary, anise, vetiver, dill, basil, cinnamon, thyme, parsley, mugwort, poplar, yarrow, elm, holly, linden, hawthorn, ash, willow, oak, coconut, bay leaf, myrtle, birch, incense, jasmine, patchouli, pine, rue, verbena, ferns, fir, hazel, heather, mistletoe, pepper, thistle, wormwood.
Working with the mortar and pestle can be a very satisfying exercise, especially if you are holding on to negative thoughts or feelings. Visualize them as you crush your ingredients and let all of the negativity be released in this exercise.

What do you think each of the suitors smell like?
Thank you for requesting. I honestly never thought about what they would smell like until now so this was pretty cool for me. Please enjoy. (I hit the 10 photo limit😭 I couldn’t put all the boy’s picture day photos.😢) such a tragedy.
Mozart
Lavender, the subtle cleanliness of soap, and a touch of something bitter sweet.
Mozart’s scent is calming, almost like a cold room or freshly cleaned linen. His natural perfume draws you in, making you crave more with each deep, slow breath. There is always a tart sweetness on his tongue. It reminds those who smell it of dark chocolate and expensive desserts.
Tumblr media
Napoleon
Cedar wood, the musk of horse hair, and a gentle vanilla.
There is a matureness in his scent- a gift of the cedar which had followed him around since he was a small boy running through the worn-down trails of his homeland. The horse hair is a result of spoiling his noble stead with bareback canters through the woods as Napoleon’s unrestrained laughs bounced off the leaves, echoing along the large branches the bonded pair cleared. The delicate vanilla, though very different from the other layers of his scent, resembles that of the crepes Napoleon adores and eats almost religiously.
Tumblr media
Jean
Frost, dew, and ice on a pure body of water.
Jean’s scent is sharp, almost a pure smell that makes you shiver with pleasure. Frost from the earth on a cold morning follows his form like a phantom figure. The fresh smell of dew coated leaves is ingrained in his pale flesh. Like ice along a lake, Jean’s scent spreads along any surface, overtaking and conquering, leaving a trace of his existence.
Tumblr media
Isaac
Spice, cedar wood, and nickel.
There’s a hint of spice in his scent. It is close to cinnamon, but different enough to where your mind runs with the possibilities of other deductions. Isaac isn’t too sure where the cedar originated from, he deduced it was either from his days spent with Napoleon, or a result of the constant tinkering with the large Leonardo on new inventions. The metallic scent of nickel follows the flustered physicist around like a puff of smoke. Some would think the smell seeps from the blush constantly staining his cheeks, but the sad truth is the fragrance is a result of his weakness towards the sticky, red liquid dubbed rogue. The poor male is clumsy and enervated by blood, so much so he often spills the fluid, causing it to dribble down his chin and soil his clothes.
Tumblr media
Vincent
Linseed oil, flowers on a warm sunny day, turpentine, and a hint of Theo.
Vincent’s scent is warm, invigorating, and intense. When kissing his cheek a subtle scent of linseed oil wafts up your nose. Vincent has tried to wash the smell off but it seems to be engraved in his flesh- a result from paint being continuously spread along his skin. He soon gave up. Now the scent is almost a comforting reminder of his passions. The mental image of sunflowers blowing in a warm breeze on a sunny day comes to mind when Vincent walks past. The earthy scent is probably why he is usually compared to a sunflower. The chemical sharpness of turpentine appears every so often on his clothes due to the unfocused movements of his hand knocking over the toxic substance. The strong scent of Theo can be smelt on Vincent’s sleeves or scarf before the cloth is washed.
Tumblr media
Theo
Whiskey, the slightest touch of king, sweet syrup on his tongue.
Theo’s aroma is strong, demanding, and hard to forget. Like his personality, there is layers upon layers when it comes to his fragrance; the most apparent being the whiskey he drinks with Arthur on hard days. Woody, and pleasant with a touch of aldehydes that makes Theo smell like he ran through a field of grain. The familiar scent of King follows the whiskey perfume reminding Theo of laughter filled moments with his beloved partner when he catches a whiff on his clothing. Sweet syrup floats from his mouth each time words roll from his tongue. Its almost impossible to breath in Theo’s words without becoming ravenous for sugary foods.
Tumblr media
Sebastian
Zesty lemon, comforting cleaning solutions, rosemary, mint, and a warm meal.
The tang of cleaning solutions follows the butler through the halls. The scent noticeable enough to know he uses disinfecting products often, but not so overwhelming that it makes your nose crinkle. His skin smells as if he uses a bar of soap made with baked goods and a lemon. His hair is coated with the fresh scent of rosemary and mint. He smells like a warm meal surrounded by the comforting glow of candles. Sebastian smells like home.
Tumblr media
Arthur
Fudge, a gentle kiss of Vic, cheap perfume, pine needles, and coffee.
The strong scent of black coffee is always on his skin like the deep fragrance of fudge on his lips. It is a wonderful blend truly. The warming smell of his beloved Vic, the slightest touch of cheap perfume, and pine needles accompany the delicious mix of edibles. Arthur smells like a man sitting on a leather recliner, a book in his hands, his lips sipping at a steaming mug of black coffee, a fire roaring in the chimney as his trusted dog sleeps at his worn, sock covered feet.
Tumblr media
Dazai
Rain, cherry blossoms, the chilly night air.
The writer smells like the air on a chilly night, silencing, soothing, and depressing, immediately bring to mind a dark sky filled with stars and a bright shining moon. The scent of freshly fallen rain stains his hair as the relaxing aroma of cherry blossoms drift around his form like a delicate breeze. Dazai smells like loneliness and relaxation.
Comte
Spiciness of black tea, eucalyptus, fresh linen, and tobacco.
Comte’s odor is hard to miss. It has a spice in the scent that tickles at your nose, resembling that of black tea. There is also a calming softness of eucalyptus that pairs perfectly with the sharp spice of the tea. Though Comte does not smoke, tobacco seems to be engrained into the fibers of his clothes which in-turn caused the pureblood to ask his butler to use a stronger deodorizer on his expensive silks. Sebastian had tried his hardest but the only fruits of his efforts were a wonderful mix of the tobacco and fresh linen scent. It’s not as if Comte dislikes the scent, he finds the scent of tobacco rather calming- he just honestly didn’t wish to hear the gloating of his fellow pureblood.
Tumblr media
Leonardo
Natural male musk, the sweetness of cigarillos, leather, and a hint of something metallic.
Leonardo’s smell is that of a confident man- strong, demanding, and addictive. The roughness of natural male musk on his skin is far from overwhelming, comforting is what it truly is. The addictive sweetness of his cigarillos imprinted in his clothes makes you remember a time of your grandfather telling war stories on the porch as he released puffs of smoke from his lips, even if you hadn’t had the memory. Leather and the sharp hint of something metallic stains his fingers. Leonardo smells like asylum.
Tumblr media
Shakespeare
Coconut, tea, worn clothes, and musk.
The scent of coconut is barely noticeable on the famed playwright. The only time it is smelt is when he reaches up to place a lock of hair behind your ear, or when he leans in to place a kiss upon your cheek in greetings. The aroma of old clothes and the slight dampness pierces his skin, as well as the sweet, floral tea on his lips. Shakespeare’s smell isn’t unpleasant, far from it in fact. His scent is comforting, relaxing, and able to force anyone who walks past to miss a home they never had. His smell smells like nostalgia

Piney Woods Soap
I grew up in the Piney Woods of Southeast Texas, and now I live in pine and cedar and walnut woods of Southern Pennsylvania. I like trees, what can I say. I also love a good bonfire.
This rustic soap is like bathing in the secluded outdoors surrounded by pine trees and a warm fire, with a glass of scotch nearby. Also reminiscent of baseball, if you've ever added pine tar resin to your baseball bat.
Pine tar has been used for centuries as a wood preservative in the shipping industry to protect their boats, to weatherproof rope, for horse hoof care treatment, for coating baseball bats, and in soaps.
It's amazing how varied its uses are. This is a simple, natural formula, with no added fragrances or chemicals to alter the smell, because it is fantastic as it is.
The Piney Woods soap is a customer favorite and such a cool, unique product.
Ingredients: Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Water, Sodium Hydroxide, Swedish Pine Tar, Shea Butter, Castor Oil

Waste not want not! Noticed a couple of oils in the pantry were “expired” and used it as an excuse to whip up a batch of soap for personal use! Duck fat, lard, grape seed oil, olive oil, and some coconut oil. Had some French green clay laying around so threw that in there to experiment with color. Looks great. Pine, cedar, with a little touch of clove for scent. Just gotta wait for it to cure.

Diptyque quick takes
These are on the card in the store, not on my skin. YMMV.
I want to like Diptyque perfumes but I’ve never managed to really love them in the store; I should try them on and see how they perform, though.  They seem to skew faint.
L’Eau Des Hesperides
Notes: bitter orange, orange, petitgrain, lemon, grass, rosemary, pepper, floral notes, mint, cedar, musk, immortelle.
Smells pale blue and fresh to me, with an aura of softness. Very summery. I’m a fan.
L’Eau de Neroli
Notes: tarragon, citrus, lemon verbena, petitgrain, bergamot, orange blossom, pelargonium, neroli, beeswax, cedar, white musk.
I like neroli in general. There’s sharp, bitter citrus on top, and subtle warmth below (from the orange blossom.)
L’Eau Moheli
Notes: floral notes, ylang-ylang, patchouli, pink pepper, ginger, vetiver, benzoin, incense.
This is a sweet, tropical scent; I thought I got coconut, but it could actually have been tiare or orchid or other tropical flowers.  Not my thing.
L’Eau Trois
Notes: rosemary, myrtle, spices, myrrh, caraway, frankincense, pine.
This is quite piney. It smells like a cabin in the woods.
L’Ombre Dans L’eau
Notes: black currant leaf, rose.
Wow, this is a special scent. It’s like shadows, moss, a pond or brook deep in the forest.  I get deep green from the cassis, and I don’t get anything floral yet, though it might show up on skin.
Philosykos
Notes: Fig leaf, fig, fig tree
I like fig leaf, but this is combined with the fig fruit, and I don’t want to wear scents that have even a little bit of fruitiness.  It’s a very clear, botanical, distinct effect: here you have leaves, and underneath you have fruit.
Tam Dao
Notes: rose, myrtle, cypress, sandalwood, cedar, spices, amber, white musk, rosewood.
Try as I might, I can’t smell this at all. It is super faint.  There is a tiny bit of cedar smell and that’s it.
Eau Duelle
Notes: cardamom, olibanum, elemi, bergamot, pink pepper, juniper, saffron, musk, ambergris, vanilla.
This is a really good version of a type of perfume I usually don’t like -- sweet, spicy, resinous scents, usually called “Oriental.”
I have issues with resins, at least the sweet ones. Amber, benzoin, opoponax, some others.  They smell super sweet and warm, like the kind of person who’s “a hugger” and squeals when she sees you. Resins are the ultimate Hufflepuff scent, and I hate them.  Mix them with vanilla, as many perfumes do, and you have a recipe for sweet, warm, extrovert hell.
Eau Duelle is a sweet, resinous, vanilla-y Oriental that I actually find fascinating to smell, though I would never wear it unless I was trying to experiment with different personas, because it’s so not-me.  It smells like rum and brown sugar to me, with spicy undertones -- deep and intoxicating and surprisingly pleasant.
Do Son
Notes: orange flower, rose, iris, tuberose, pink pepper, benzoin, musk
This is a tuberose fragrance but the kind I don’t like, because of the B E N Z O I N.  It is sooooo sweet. It has a sugar problem.  The orange flower and iris, I think, make it seem rather old-fashioned and grandmotherly, like fancy old-fashioned skincare or soaps; it also seems rather spa-like.
Vetyverio
Notes: mandarin, lemon, grapefruit, bergamot, ylang-ylang, rose, geranium, carrot seed, nutmeg, clove, cedar, vetiver, musk.
The opening is a dry citrus, I think mostly the grapefruit and bergamot, but it smells like etrog to me.  And then there’s a lot of vetiver, which is a scent I love; it’s potent, medicinal, masculine.  It’s sort of an elegant jet-set smell.
Eau de Lierre
Notes: ivy, cyclamen, geranium, gray amber, rosewood, musk, woods.
This is a very pure, sharp, clear, pale green, like a shot of vodka, like a ray of light.  Ivy is a wonderful fragrance. I need to come back and try this on.
Oyedo
Notes: lime, mandarin, lemon, yuzu, thyme, woodsy notes.
This is very summery and aggressively citrus, and there’s also a sharp, aggressive herbal note that I assume is the thyme. I wrote “like an evil lawn,” which sounds bizarre but that’s what came to mind.
Olene
Notes: narcissus, honeysuckle, wisteria, jasmine, white flowers, green notes.
This is a sweet-natured, innocently slutty, not-too-bright village girl in France having a picnic on the grass with some boys.  It makes me think of a young Fantine, or Fragonard paintings.  Really doesn’t suit my personality.  I think the “sluttiness” comes from the honeysuckle, which I find has that effect in other perfumes as well.
Ofresia
Notes: Freesia, pepper, woods
Freesia is a very pure, fresh, dewy, blue-purple flower.  I kind of like it.
