Having a little drinky poo of Rogue Dead Guy Whiskey before I turn in for bed. I really enjoy this one! It is made by Rogue, the craft beer maker, and to make this whiskey they use the mash bill for their Dead Guy Ale to make their whiskey! So it's a single malt made from malted barley. To me the aroma is very much like banana nut bread. It tastes of a very rich dark bread like a pumpernickel. Very bready. Also, it tastes like beer! Kinda like a dark lager minus the hops with a crisp pilsner finish. It tastes like what I imagine a whiskey would taste like if you distilled and aged beer. Which makes sense because they are using their beer mash.
I rate it 80/100. I saw a lot of reviews from 2 or 3 years ago where reviewers said it was terrible. I don't know if it's just my palate or if Rogue has improved their methods since then, but I definitely recommend it. Cost around $58 where I live.

i miss eastern european experimental craft beer so much. they’re out there drinking herbal malt wine, juniper amber ale, double mash imperial pastry stout. and what does west europe have. boring-ass weißbier. helles? that’s not a beer type, that’s a blandness rating. get outta here with your pilsner

North Park Crispy-Fu! West Coast Pils (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 4 of 4. Nice bright tropical fruit and white-wine like hop notes in the nose, and a light, clean pilsner with just a touch of bready malt sweetness. A great pilsner, and a more complex hop profile than I was expecting, even for the style.

What kind of beer do you like? I feel like I haven’t tried a lot and the ones I tried were eh
It depends on what I’m having it with! if you want really mild beers that aren’t super bitter or earthy then I would recommend wheat beers (kronenbourg blanc, blue moon), they tend to have a citrus flavour to them and are refreshing in the summer. If you want something slightly more bitter but still thin in terms of texture I really enjoy Peroni, it’s an Italian pilsner. I like trying local brewery lagers in my area when I’m in bars, those are generally thicker beers than pilsners ime (obviously varies by location) but probably what you picture in terms of bitterness and flavour when thinking about beer in general. They also go well with pub food, really starchy/carb-heavy foods like fries, breaded chicken, meat pies, etc. I don’t generally like IPAs (which are the really intensely bitter beers with an ‘herbal’ taste to them, which comes from the hops) unless I’m eating spicy food, I find the bitterness helps cut through the spice especially if you're eating saucy foods that coat the inside of your mouth. I also generally don’t like thicker maltier beers like stouts (eg Guinness), although vanilla stouts are nice sometimes, they kind of taste like nitro cold brew coffee but beer, which sounds disgusting but it’s good. ive recently been getting into amber lagers, they tend to have malt (ie the earthy, nutty taste of some beers) and caramel profiles, so they have a sweeter after taste and again tend to be thicker in texture.
sometimes bars sell sampler platters which come as a set of shot glasses filled with a variety of different beers, which is good for trying out different stuff. I also like buying random single cans to try out in liquor/beer stores sometimes. In general lager is going to be like the most “normal” in terms of flavour, generally not too strong in any direction, but if that’s still too bitter for you I definitely recommend wheat beers!

Maui Brewing Company and Patagonia Provisions collaborate to release a unique beer made with a perennial grain. Introducing Kernza Pils.
Tumblr media
Press Release
Kihei, Hawaii (August 8, 2023) – Maui Brewing Company is introducing a Kernza® Pilsner in partnership with Patagonia Provisions, the food and beverage business of outdoor apparel company Patagonia. The Kernza Pils is brewed with Organic Vienna and Organic Pilsner malts with Organic Talus and Organic Wakatu hops and Regenerative Organic Certified® Kernza®. The light-bodied beer is moderately bitter with 40 IBUs and balanced with sweetness that finishes dry. It is clear with pale straw to gold appearance and offers an elegant, floral hop aroma. Its ABV is 4.6%.
Kernza®, a deeply-rooted regenerative perennial grain, has the potential to transform the brewing industry. Kernza® stabilizes soil, requires minimal tilling, increases soil organic matter, and improves soil structure and water-holding capacity. Patagonia is confident that ongoing research will also confirm that Kernza® draws down and stores more carbon in the soil than annual grains. When used in beer, it adds a deliciously rich but subtle nutty flavor. The Regenerative Organic Certified® Kernza® used in the Kernza Pils is sourced from A-Frame Farm, a 1,200-acre Regenerative Organic Certified® farm in Madison, Minnesota.
Participating breweries and Patagonia will each contribute 1% of Patagonia beer sales to a local non-profit that supports environmental initiatives and meets 1% for the Planet eligibility criteria.
“At Maui Brewing Co, we are passionate about sustainability and environmental stewardship, and we believe in Patagonia's commitment to those values. Collaborating with a brand that shares our vision allows us to amplify our impact and reach a broader audience,” stated Kim Brisson Lutz, VP of Operations for Maui Brewing Co. “The use of Kernza® Malt in our beer collaboration is significant. By incorporating Kernza® Malt into our beer, we are promoting sustainable farming practices and contributing to the development of a more resilient and ecologically sound food system. It also offers a distinct flavor profile and a story worth sharing with beer enthusiasts who are interested in supporting environmentally friendly options. It's an opportunity to showcase how the choices we make as a brewery can have a positive impact on the environment.”
“Patagonia is thrilled to partner with Maui Brewing Company, the first off-grid brewery in the US that reuses almost everything while brewing their craft beers,” says Paul Lightfoot, Patagonia Provision’s General Manager. “Craft beer drinkers want delicious high-quality beer made with clean ingredients that are better for the planet, and we look forward to bringing that beer to Patagonia customers with Maui Brewing Company in Hawaii.”
Maui Brewing restaurant locations in Kihei, Kahana, and Ka'anapali (Maui) currently have this beer on draft, while its Kailua and Waikiki (Oahu) locations will be pouring the Kernza Pilsen the upcoming weeks.
The MBC team are stewards of their communities and the ‘aina, and curators of the craft beer way of life. Their beers have been recognized worldwide for quality and innovation.

Primeira Parada: Cervejaria Bodebrown
Segunda Parada: Cervejaria Way Beer
Quarta Parada: Cervejaria Cevada Pura
Quinta Parada: Cervejaria Hermelin
