27. What’s your favorite book? Or just one you’ve read a few times?

i'll have a different answer to this in fifteen minutes but the one that comes to mind is rebecca. the one i've read the most times is crispin's the price of freedom, by a wide margin. favorite book that is bad is the mystery of collinwood.

this is going to sound like absolute sacrilege to you but ... no. i really really hate the feeling of sand on me adfsfj. i love hanging out near the water, put me on a pier (or... a cliff!) I'm very happy, but being on the beach itself... pls no. also sunny all the way, my mood is tremendously weather-affected i need to sit in the sun for twelve million hours to feel normal. (i live in the wrong state for this)

So I had some kind of insane dream

First, a dream I had yesterday but forgot to talk about. It's also an insane one but way shorter.

There was a village of alligator people living in the sewers and at the end of the sewer tunnel the exit led to a beach. The beach was at an angle where it was a downwards hill to get to the ocean.

A giant Piers was rising from the sea about to terrorize the alligator people. Normal sized Piers was trying to fight the giant Piers alongside the alligator people.

Drayton was also there and he put a little effort into defending the alligator people. He picked up an inverted-color version of himself by the arms and spun him around to toss him.

Drayton was intending to make the inverted-color version of himself land on the giant Piers but he couldn't throw him that far and the inverted-color Drayton was just cartoonishly rolling down the hill of the beach.

Now for the recent dream

The dream starts out very self-aware with Carmine going to Drayton. She says the following to him: "You and Crispin are all buddy-buddy with the dreamer, right? Crispin is out somewhere and I need help from someone with experience." Drayton just silently stares at her like she's crazy from where he's sitting. Carmine adds: "Don't act all oblivious. I know all of that exists and you regularly get involved. Kieran fell into some other world and you're the only one I know who might be able to help."

Drayton then grins and stands up and I appear next to him, startling Carmine. Then I teleport us all to the world Kieran was trapped in. It was mostly jungle-like with beautiful plants and stuff but something about it felt like some kind of post-nuclear explosion wasteland somehow. Not really sure how else to describe it.

I don't remember a lot of what happened in between but at some point Carmine was under the spell of something and being aggressive in a vicious monster way because of it and Drayton was walking oddly. Like one foot was broken. I don't remember at all if those two things are connected though. So anyway I was helping Drayton walk for a little while before he just couldn't go on and he had to lie down on the ground. I just kinda stood next to him looking down for a little while having thoughts reminiscent of being an angst enjoyer and then shortly feeling bad about it at because in this case the fictional guy is suffering right in front of me and I'm…. Amused by it??! Like bruh keep that to the daydreams. Not to the actual imaginary friends. Well anyways I did come to my senses in the dream, albeit too many seconds later. I decided to teleport with him to a dream world like a replica of where I live irl.

It was a shed but for some reason the floor was all covered in water. It was still safer than the monster world. But Carmine unexpectedly ran through the portal I opened and the moment she touched water she transformed into a mermaid and I said "What, did you stand in the dang moon pool or somethin?!" I can't recall if I ever referenced something in a dream before like that. But anyhoo it was making a lot of noise and I didn't want my dream family knowing I can travel to other universes so I quickly picked up Drayton bridal style and kicked Carmine into a fresh portal back to the monster world before jumping in the portal myself.

After getting back to the monster world, Carmine was no longer a mermaid but she was still going berserk from whatever got in her head and she sprinted off somewhere out of sight while I was left alone with Drayton again. I regained some almost-awake level smarts long enough to manipulate the dream into restoring Drayton's broken leg but immediately after that I became my usual dumb dream-self again. Instead of going to help Carmine find Kieran, I chose to continue carrying Drayton bridal style while whimsically prancing around the landscape. I think Drayton was having fun lol.

The dream showed me what Carmine got up to after she sprinted away. She made it to where the king of the monsters was. The monsters in that world were all evil, though they could be reasoned with. Carmine snapped out of her trance and demanded that the king tell her where Kieran is. The king thought her boldness was amusing and offered to help her find Kieran.

She was told that he might be with one of his subordinates who all individually rule over something in the monster world. All those monster people who were the king's subordinates had names similar to what they ruled over. The only one I remember is one whose name was Madison who had a mansion. That's where they were checking first. But before that, the king wanted Carmine to dig up a crystal skull out of the ground. It was the king's car keys. They were going to the mansion by car.

I woke up before they got there.

tldr: I bring Drayton on a fun trip around a jungle/wasteland and Carmine gets demon possessed while attempting to de-isekai Kieran

Got a little free time, so I might as well get started on this one. Into the episode with the giant continuity error, because I distinctly remember them having a car before this episode. At least I’m about...95% sure they did.

Are weetabix anything like the mini-wheats cereal? Cuz, if so, I’d honestly like to get my mitts on some. Frosted mini-wheats have the best crunch, ever. 

Also, I hate eating odd numbers of things. I maybe wouldn’t eat 20 giant wheat cracker things, but maybe...4?

Again with the fat jokes. Lovely. 

No need to rub in Arnie’s lack of powers by doing an equipment test right then and there. George is worst cousin. 

Still get a giggle out of that George and Ella interaction.

I really think if left to their own devices, George and Stanley would get along. Even if they had to bond over not liking Ella. 

Oh, the weird guy in the corner is friends with George? Not a shock. 

There it is, the part about them not having a car. But, again, I coulda sworn they had one in an earlier episode.

Yeah, just checked. Janet’s getting groceries out of a car in the pilot episode.

See, right there. Tyler does the same thing George does later, when he erases his own memory, while trying to remind himself not to talk about Thermoman. Like Tyler’s erasing his own memory.

That poster of Piers is the definition of Cringe. But, also, yeah. No. The man is gorgeous, but I wouldn’t trust him to operate on anyone. No one should book a surgery with him.

Stanley doesn’t even blink at George wearing a crown. It’s just one more weird thing George does. 

That was weirdly polite. “Oh, it’s you. You’ve come outta your corner.” 

Like, nice to meet you, weird guy. What’s up. 

Love that delayed reaction...oh. Wait. George is wearing a crown. 

Oh, of course this weirdly similar crown isn’t part of the crown jewels. 

Good thing George was so completely convinced of that, or Stanley probably wouldn’t have been. 

Tyler still in the corner counting the oats. Apparently no one finds that a bit strange. 

At least that guy behind him threw some side eye at calling George “master.” 

Also, I would dearly love it if I could find a magical alien healer to fix everything that is fubared in my stupid body.

Sounds fake. 

Mrs Raven wanting the phone to ring, then getting annoyed when it does, is me bored outta my mind and wishing someone would text. Then resenting it. 

Janet’s face says she really believes Mrs Raven would kill all the patients and bury them in the car park.

I react to this the same way I react to bearded Hugh swinging his belt on Taskmaster. 

Incoherent whimpering and nail biting, mostly. At the calmer end.

Piers just watching Arnie and Mrs Raven’s mating ritual like...wtf am I seeing here? And then just nodding, like, yeah, that was definitely the most disturbing flirting I’ve ever seen. I’m leaving before it gets worse….

Mrs Raven’s little quick change with the stolen scarf. I think it has to be in the lost and found more than one week before you can claim it, ya know.

Another thing that was nice while it lasted. 

Theft cat is out of the bag. But he’s right. That is one ugly necklace. 

Even if all that stuff was just stolen and hidden in their flat that day, how did no one notice a bedroom full of corgis? They’d surely have started barking at some point.

George at least has more morals than Janet. 

I mean, I know a car would be useful, but I can’t believe either of them trusted Arnie in the first place.

I mean, I laughed the first time. But that was before...the incident. The moment that changed everything.

In yesterday's dreaming experience, every time I woke up and went back to sleep, I had a different dream about a different never-before-seen au Drayton. By now the only one I remember is the last one. He was the bodyguard of a magical girl and he had so many guns. Very serious personality too. Probably the most out-of-character Drayton I've seen.

I've been winning on the dream stuff lately. I think it was from Crispin pulling that silly stunt, if the dream continuity is to blame for this.

Last night's dreams were also fun. It's a long story so I'll add a "keep reading" down there. These continued every time I woke up and went back to sleep so it was basically a really really long dream that just got occasionally interrupted.

It was--- very fanfictiony. Like. Extremely so. Almost embarrassingly so. However, I enjoyed all of it. Because. It was comfy.

Also I think it may have been influenced by the fact the brain goblins have all collectively looked like Drayton for more than a consecutive week. Because I was Drayton in the dream.

I was hanging out with a few people. It was Carmine, Crispin, and my favorite au Hop (the one I call Reaper). But I was mainly just around Crispin while Reaper and Carmine were doing some other stuff separately nearby. I think Reaper was texting Dialga. I don't remember at all what Carmine was doing. I was interested in only like one thing and it was hugs and snuggles.

I'm fairly certain that Crispin knew I was actually The Asleep Friend just using the appearance of Drayton. Why else would Drayton be exhibiting cat behavior? That is a The Asleep Friend type of thing to do. Aside from that, I was verrrry overprotective towards Crispin if any evil monster appeared, which was, a few times. I would temporarily unlock total dream manipulation whenever an evil monster appeared and just cause instant destruction if any of those things went near Crispin.

Carmine just watched in confusion every time. I don't think I've ever interacted with her in a dream before. She definitely wouldn't know me well enough to think this is anything aside from Drayton acting extremely unusual and mysteriously having overpowered magic-looking abilities. Reaper possibly knew who I was. Reaper is just chaotic like that. He would go along with it if I had shapeshifted into Drayton. So who even knows with him.

The only person other than me who has unlocked complete dream control in any of my dreams is Piers. (I had an entire dream once that vibed like it was all Piers's dream and I was just in it and Piers was having a lucid dream). Reaper is aware of that so either Reaper knows it's me or he thinks Drayton has also gained that power. Later things that happen lean more into the idea that Reaper knew it was me.

At some point in the dream, me and the rest of this little group were all relaxing on a very large bed one of us found. Reaper was having a video call with Dialga. Carmine was sitting on the edge trying to make sense of things. I think she was having a crisis over seeing Drayton actively fighting big evil monsters. Crispin hugged me and I returned the favor while purring like a cat and using him as a pillow. If Carmine wasn't disturbed before, she totally was now.

Reaper had a look of mischief and left and Carmine also left. I think she didn't want to be left alone with "cat-boy Drayton" and the guy letting "cat-boy Drayton" exist like this. What Reaper was getting up to will come into the story later.

I haven't had a snuggle comfort dream in such a long time it seems so I was not wanting that to end. But Crispin wanted to go hang out somewhere else so that had to end. I went with Crispin to a really pretty forest place. A little eerie looking like it was haunted, but that added to the beauty of the forest. There was a swamp nearby too. Very nice place.

We were just admiring the view before a heckin-- clown monster appeared. I don't have a fear of clowns so I was not any more or less concerned about it than I was about any other evil monster. Except I was unable to activate dream control in any way apart from shapeshifting slightly. So I grew kitty ears, a tail, and huge sharp claws. Then I was really cat-boy Drayton. Everything other than the claws were for my own amusement.

I fought with the clown monster using only the cat claws and my own skills. Fully prepared to do whatever I had to do to protect Crispin. In the end, me and Crispin were both taken to a clown car by this thing. Reaper appeared to make a rescue and I woke up for a couple minutes. Making a conscious choice to try not to fall back to sleep, for the purpose of my sleep schedule, but ended up falling back to sleep anyway. Only for the dream to continue where it left off, which is actually a rare occurrence.

I re-entered the dream from the point of a few minutes since I previously left. So it took into account the time I spent awake. But other than that, it continued exactly from the previous dream. I was still Drayton and I still had the cat features.

Reaper had defeated the clown monster and both he and Crispin were surprised to see me reappear after just vanishing for a few minutes. The imaginary friends know of how my dream stuff typically works. Normally, when I vanish I don't return until the next night. And if I do return before the night is over, the entire landscape changes and there's a new story. This time it was the same. How fun.

Reaper thought it was awesome because now he could do his planned mischief. Reaper took Crispin through a portal and then sent me to the guild in pokemon mystery dungeon. I was still Drayton :D

Anyhoo. I had a small argument with Bidoof before I ran to a portal to the Hidden Land. Carmine was there in the guild too and she followed me. I was just kind of naruto-running through the dungeon while holding a sword. I told Carmine she would have to keep up if she wanted to come along. I breezed through the Hidden Land and then through Temporal Tower while Carmine, surprised at "Drayton's" speed was somehow keeping up. Far behind, but keeping up.

Upon reaching the top, I saw Reaper with Dialga and Crispin. They were just sitting on the ground having a casual conversation while drinking tea and I dropped my sword, glad to not have to fight Dialga.

So Reaper's planned mischief was to stage a legendary tea party disguised as an epic rescue mission.

I join them and then Carmine, now properly flabbergasted, also comes to sit and chat with everyone. I think she has given up. I also think it's funny to imagine her later going to the imaginary friend Drayton and seeing him be normal and not knowing how to react. Imaginary friend Drayton would be gifted such a funny show I think.

I woke up briefly again but this time I went back to sleep on purpose under the assumption the dream would continue again. It did. I didn't care about my sleep schedule at that moment. I wanted to find out what happens next. Also was thinking I might stay up all night today anyway because I need to re-fix the insomnia meaning it would be fine for me to go back to sleep once more.

Carmine was of course surprised to see "Drayton" disappear and reappear. Reaper and Crispin were surprised that I was able to re-enter the same dream yet another time. (I dunno how this happened either. but. It would be fine by me if Crispin gets the idea that this was accomplished by a desperation to hang out with him. I think he still feels guilty about the thing that happened in the walmart dream and I want to reassure him he's still one of my bestest friends)(Plus I think the thing he was originally trying to do in the walmart dream that failed then is now seeing its actual intended effects considering I can remember this entire adventure. Crispin is no longer causing me to forget dreams just by being in them). Dialga didn't really know what was going on or what everyone else was so surprised about.

I don't remember a whole lot of stuff that happened after that because I should not have been asleep still and I was more prone to being disturbed by irl noises. Near the end, the clown returned and Reaper fought it again. This time using scythes instead of just his usual magic powers. Reaper doesn't often need to get serious because he's a very powerful cosmic entity creature, but if he does have to get serious, he'll fight with a combination of scythes and his usual magic. With the addition of four extra hands if he really needs all the fighting power he has access to. But it was just scythes and magic for now. Me, Crispin, and Carmine were taking shelter in a really cool ancient ruined library while Reaper was outside fighting the clown. It was all a basement. Or if there was a surface level floor, it was destroyed long ago. Ancient library ruins are cool.

I was flipping through some pages of a book, ignoring the occasional rumbling and dust falling from the ceiling from the fight outside. Carmine and Crispin would cautiously look around every time the ceiling would make noise and spill dust.

I sat down next to Crispin and we began read a book together but I woke up after getting past a few pages.

No getting back to sleep that time :(

But like- that was so much fun. What an adventure that was

Christmas

The Christmas episode, which I have alternately seen labeled as end of series 1 or beginning of series 2. No one else is sure, so I’m not sure. I’m not terribly bothered, so, I’ll just call it the Free-Floating Christmas Special and off we go. 

Christmas shopping is always my favorite part of the whole thing, so the opening scene hits me just right, so to speak. Also, imo, Thermodoll is reminding me of Tyler. Hilarious, all things considered.

So...when George thinks Janet’s been taken over by alien tree-worshippers, it’s considered a valid concern, just not the right answer. Had Tyler said the same thing, everyone would have been rolling their eyes. I dunno, man, I’m reasonably sure Tyler’s been right about enough that you shouldn’t discount him entirely just because he has holes in his brain.

Poor George, I know it’s confusing but don’t bother trying to understand the mishmash of religious traditions that got stolen for Christmas.

Mrs Raven spreading her “unique” brand of Christmas cheer to the expectant mom. I’m a sick person for laughing.

...It was Piers idea to do something nice? That doesn’t sound like...oh, it was self-serving. Yeah, that makes sense.

Now, this starts out looking like George just being completely naive and ignorant about Christmas, with calling Stanley out, but in hindsight if he knows Santa how does he not know all this? It’s either a HUGE gaping plothole, or he found Santa and introduced himself when he left the party.

Ella’s face when this entire conversation starts. Also, for once, she seems more amused by George than put off. She looks almost flattered/on the verge of cracking up the whole way through.

See, this is the sort of thing Janet could have avoided by just following up that remark about “imagine spending Christmas with...” with a “and I’d prefer it to be just the two of us, instead.”

I had a suspicion when I heard his house was called Bedside Manor, and it is now confirmed. Piers Crispin tells terrible, corny jokes and is usually the only one laughing. Also, someone just give the man a coffee, just this once. For Christmas.

This kid who almost ruins it for everyone reminds me of Ben from Outnumbered, especially when he smiles. And at least George had by then sort of cottoned on to what was up enough to lend a hand.

You guys, listen to Tyler. I think he was predicting Trump.

“Irritate the pants off me.” I’ve always heard it as “Buggin the pants off me,” but, I think it means two different things depending on which side of the pond. Underwear in the UK, outerwear over here.

Okay, I dig the drink dispenser. My sense of humor is pretty stupid, sometimes. And Arnie also tells terrible, corny jokes and laughs alone. But you’d expect it more from him.

I don’t recall a Christmas Eve where I’ve ever gone to bed before midnight in years. If I’m not in the kitchen with mom, I’m wrapping presents and by the end I’m not sure which end is up, anymore.

At least he checked Ella’s feet and not her boobs. That would’ve been awkward.

I made a friend of mine watch the scene with the burglar at Mrs Raven’s. I can’t remember if she’d wandered into my room or I’d made her come in, but either way I made her stay put and shut up until it was done because it’s a fave part and I had already seen it once by then. Anyway, to this day, sometimes one of us will just look at the other and put on our best English accent and say “Thank you, Santa. I won’t do it again.”

Also, I can’t believe Mrs Raven didn’t wake up during this whole exchange since she seems the hypervigilant type. I’m gonna assume she was passed out drunk.

I dunno who Piers is talking to here, but it’s a safe bet they aren’t exactly what you’d call close friends. Not as most people define it. Close enough to call on Christmas Eve, but not so close that they aren’t trying to one-up each other. Is other guy being honest about Lynette Moss (whoever that is)? No clue, but Piers sure isn’t.

Of course, the hilarious part is George thinking he’s busted for a second, there.

Honestly, this is exactly the sort of room I expected Piers to have. All the mirrors and the giant portrait of himself. Sad, oversized shrine to his own ego. And the slippers, while hilarious, didn’t come as a huge surprise. His pajamas, on the other hand, did. I was expecting something expensive-looking, possibly monogrammed, and instead it’s sweats and a shirt that any old crew-member on the show might have.

More interesting, is that while he’s walking around doing stuff he probably wouldn’t be caught dead doing in public -looking unpolished, plucking nose hairs- he’s still, essentially, in character as Dr Crispin while being on the phone.

It bothers me that he threw the phone onto the bed instead of putting it back on the cradle. It needs to recharge, man!

And he’s the only character shown sleeping on their side, half-curled up. Also the only one to sleep on top of the covers. Not sure what to make of the latter, but the former is sort of a mix between two sleeping positions that one of them is profiled as open-natured but suspicious and cynical, and the other is shy, sensitive and easily worried by overthinking problems.

(The man does not have ugly feet. I apologize for the weirdness of that.)

Okay, see, George essentially tore the wrapping paper, there, and that’s a pretty much impossible fix. It would have been easier, and less obvious, to open the bottom and switch the contents out. Still, he obviously did a good job fixing it since Piers didn’t notice anything amiss.

I’m not here for Janet knocking the wonder that is turkey. It is my favorite and obviously she doesn’t do it right if hers is dry and unflavorful. Mind you, I enjoy the slightly dry texture of turkey in general, though. Not much of a chicken person.

Bet she didn’t put an onion inside it. That’s why its got no flavor.

How do you get two weeks of leftover turkey? I’m lucky to get four days.

Great. Now I’m hungry. I’mma need a turkey and a pan of dressing, asap.

I’ve heard of Christmas pudding, before, but...yeah, I think I prefer my American tradition of at least two pies and two cakes.  

“Oh, no, they’re early.” Says mom every year when my cousin’s bunch turns up. They have an unfortunate habit of plunking themselves down at the table and poking everything while she’s still cooking. Without washing their hands.

George’s face. So bewildered and defeated. You tried, boo.

I think we should be grateful Tyler didn’t think the bottle was for a urine and/or blood sample. And poor thing didn’t get a present from Santa George.

You.People.All.Suck! Piers might, if you squint, have a legit gripe with the present switching, but it’s nothing he didn’t deserve. But, overall, mystery solved and you could all just say thanks.

This is what I was talking about, before, with Janet/George playing out a softer version of Ella/Stanley. “He made a mistake,” isn’t really a defense when followed up with agreeing that he ruined Christmas. Better to follow it up with pointing out that he was just trying to do something nice and that they should all just chill now they know it wasn’t a stalker.

Again, Janet could have avoided having her Christmas ruined by explaining she didn’t want them around before George started issuing invites.

You tried, Stanley.

You know a suspicious and disturbing amount about Christmas suicides, Piers.

Now, Tyler claims to have gone to school with both Santa and Leonaro da Vinci, but only one of them acknowledged him, in turn. I have a small theory I’m working on about that.

Oh, C’mon! That was undeservedly mean! Give the poor baby his jigsaw piece back, it’s the only thing Santa’s given him in years. (Double mean when you think that sitting in the floor “like a little boy” isn’t what you’d expect image-conscious Dr Crispin to unbend enough to do. Piers, on the other hand...well, I did say it’s like they were two different people.)
