hm.
i think this is coming up because longmont potion castle came into conversation recently. the last time i saw you, really saw you where it was just the two of us, we spent the night on the couch in your condo listening to longmont potion castle tapes. "rope" was my favorite.
i saw you again, later, with your soon-to-be wife, who was wonderful. i still hadn't progressed to taking hormones, but you introduced me easily, just like you had with your roommate within weeks of me leaving my ex and deciding to transition. no faltering. you always got me.
i'll always remember you making me stop my car, saying, "psp psp psp kitty, first pets are free," and making new cat friends.
you would have been so much better at being in your thirties than i am. i suck at this. you would have been so good. you would know what to do in this stubborn world.
we started a tumblr for our radio show in 2010. i updated it every week but struggled, because it was so much different from livejournal. i still have that account attached to mine, because there's a picture of us as the icon, and despite how i've changed, i'm not ready to let go of your (occasionally terrible, joanna newsom and titus andronicus, really?) music taste, or the picture of us together in my old kitchen, back when we used to have vodka and pickle parties to watch new episodes of jersey shore.
this isn't an anniversary of your death, it isn't even close. it's just a random day i'm remembering you again. your wife wouldn't let me see your ashes the last time i asked, because she was still grieving and lost, and i respect that, but i really just wanted to read you italian elon musk tweets. you would have fucking loved italian elon musk twitter. you would have been an answer to a lot of things happening now that we don't have. you were so fucking smart, and funny. someone uploaded your one-time standup show when we were college students to youtube, and i've watched it more than once.
if anyone ever deserved to be alive, it would be you, and i'm so mad that you aren't. life was taken from you in the ugliest way. it was taken from you and you were taken from us, and no one had a say, and every now and then (today) i get real fucking angry about it.
i still drive past your old house sometimes and expect to see your franksteined together car. i remember how soft your hands were. your stupid mountain unicycle. the way you made us all listen to drake but also the first press the smiths album afterward like a balm, only to chase that with fucking drake like he was the second coming. you laughed like jimmy carr getting punched in the solar plexus. i miss you so much. i can't remember how long it's been.

How to take care of your
Nikki Sixx
(after a long and stressful tour)
⚠️ Warning⚠️ please buy a Nikki Sixx at your own cost. He can get extremely horny, and whiny, and hungry. We recommend getting one of the easier rockstar Bf's, like Eric Carr (he's very moody tho).
Tw: mentions smut, alcohol (mentions), mentions drug use.
When Nikki comes home, you don't need to do much. Walk up to him, give him a peck at the cheek and a hug, and help put his stuff away.
Step 1. Make sure Nikki is comfy, you don't want a uncomfy Nikki.
Do: Give blankets, kisses, something to drink (not alcohol), put on tv.
Don't: be loud (he's got that part covered), give any bad substance's/alcohol.
Step 2. Make sure he is well fed. Man has been on tour for so long, he's probably been eating shitty hotel food and fast food.
Do feed: Chips, sweet food, savory food, pickle-y food, anything. (he isn't picky)
Step 3. Get his ass in a bath, he probably stinks.
He also likes bubbles, so y'know. Bubbles
Step 4. Dry him off, and make sure he got all the soap out of his hair.
Step 5. Cuddle with him on your guy's bed, he needs it.
Possibly play with his most likely still wet hair, he likes it. Tell him that you missed him, and all that other stuff.
Ladies, gentleman, none of the above, all of the above. That's how you take care of a Nikki Sixx.
(please take precaution, if he gets horny. Quarantine him instantly, he doesn't need more sex after a tour, wait a day or two.)

what do you like to pair your cheeses with?
Hi Nonny!
Ooh so many things tbh, depending on the cheese. For instance, if it’s paneer, then a naan.
But in general, a lot of cheeses go well with crackers like Carr’s and Jacob’s selection. Also I love pickles/chutneys like Branstons, Baxter’s Albert Victorian and even fig jams. Also love it with fruit like apple, grapes, cranberry and pineapple.
But I will put cheese with most things 😂
Thanks for your ask 😁🧡🧡

For record, KC Green is part of a very fun ttrpg podcast called Skulltenders, along with other cool people (including the LPer/streamer Voidburger who I love).
The blurb from the website:
So for just a few if their adventures include a sentient pickle man named Dillon, a sharkgirl and jellyfish girl exploring a haunted, and incredibly funny Chuck W Cheese knock off, and a very handsome skeleton man, who is also the mayor of hell.
I cannot recommend it enough.
I’m really glad that KC Green’s work is being more widely recognized after the whole “This is not fine” comic came out.
He’s been in the comic making game for a really long time and he has…a bit of a knack for creating things that are used as reaction images and never credited back to him.
He’s a really cool guy and a great artist and I HIGHLY recommend following his work.

With a juicy salmon patty, spicy mayo, and tangy pickled cucumbers, these salmon burgers are a tasty take on the classic burger. Great for people who like seafood!
Ingredients: 1 lb fresh salmon fillet, skin removed, diced. 1/4 cup breadcrumbs. 1/4 cup green onions, finely chopped. 1 egg. 1 clove garlic, minced. 1 tsp ginger, grated. Salt and pepper to taste. 4 burger buns. 1 cup cucumber, thinly sliced. 1/2 cup rice vinegar. 1/4 cup sugar. 1/4 cup mayonnaise. 2 tbsp Sriracha sauce. 2 tbsp hoisin sauce. Lettuce leaves for garnish.
Instructions: Diced salmon, breadcrumbs, green onions, egg, minced garlic, grated ginger, salt, and pepper should all be mixed together in a bowl. Mix everything together well. Make burger patties out of the four equal parts of the mixture. Warm up a pan or grill on the stove over medium-high heat. The salmon patties should be cooked all the way through after being grilled for four to five minutes on each side. Get the cucumbers ready to pickle while the salmon is cooking. Put sugar and rice vinegar in a small saucepan and mix them together. Set the pan on medium heat and stir the sugar until it melts. Take it off the heat and let it cool down. Put the cucumber slices in the fridge for at least 15 minutes after pouring the mixture over them. Pour the spicy mayo into a different bowl and mix in the Sriracha sauce and hoisin sauce. You can grill or toast the burger buns until they are lightly browned. Spread a lot of Sriracha Hoisin Mayo on the bottom half of each bun before putting the burgers together. On top of the mayo, put a salmon patty. Then, add pickled cucumbers and lettuce leaves. Place the other half of the bun on top and serve right away. Enjoy your Salmon Burgers with Pickled Cucumbers and Sriracha Hoisin Mayo!
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes

REVIEW
Hard Country by Ian Loome
Rogue Warrior #5
Intrigued with the story and immersed in the plot, I stayed up till the wee hours of the morning to make sure things came “right” in the end. Having missed two books in the series, I stepped right back into this book without skipping a beat finding no trouble picking up the Rogue Warrior’s story.
What I liked:
* Bob: ex-CIA assassin, diagnosed with ADHD & PTSD, intelligent, strong, lethal, has his own personal moral compass, protective, trying to avoid assassins, intriguing, would like to know more about him
* Getting back in touch with Bob and finding out how he is doing
* Seeing that Dawn & Marcus from the first book are still alive and doing well…though Marcus is in a bit of a pickle
* The way Bob adapts and adjusts while trying to use lethal force – most of the time
* The plot, pacing, setting and writing – I grew up in California so some of the places were familiar
* That not all of the bad guys were totally bad, and the good guys were also sometimes flawed
* The way the tables were turned on some who were more than eager to harm others for their twisted pleasure or for monetary gain
* The ins and outs, twists and turns, and ultimate mostly positive conclusion of the book
* That though I was unsettled and upset at times, the author chose not to become graphic as he mentioned dog fights, revenge, payback, and sadistic actions
* Thinking about where Bob will end up next
What I didn’t like: * Who and what I was meant not to like
* The drug kingpin and how evilly despicable he was
* The corruption and evil of the bad guys
* The reference to animal and human abuse/pain – made me angry and want the characters punished
Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series/by this author? Yes
NOTE: I would recommend reading the first book in the series because it includes Bob’s backstory.
Thank you to NetGalley and Inkubator books for the ARC – This is my honest review.
5 Stars
BLURB
Bob isn’t looking for trouble. Until someone hurts his friend. When his young friend Marcus is arrested for the murder of a crusading doctor, Bob Singleton rushes to Bakersfield to see if he can help. Convinced Marcus has been framed, Bob will do whatever it takes to clear his name and free him from the violent jail where his life is in constant danger. It doesn’t take Bob long to discover that the murdered doctor was campaigning against a development which would have caused a dangerous level of pollution, harming the local community. He was hurting someone’s bottom line, so he had to go – and Marcus was the perfect fall guy. Bob follows the money which leads him from executive boardrooms back to the mean streets where he battles corrupt police in league with a ruthless gang of meth dealers led by a sociopath who delights in inflicting pain. Bob is just one man fighting a formidable and well-armed organization. They’ll never know what hit them. Hard Country - the fifth book in the thrilling Rogue Warrior action thriller series. Perfect for fans of Jason Kasper, Jack Carr, and Lee Child. What readers are saying about Hard Country: “…I couldn't put this one down… I definitely recommend this.” -Goodreads Reviewer “…one of the best in the series and a very entertaining story.” -Netgalley Reviewer “…definitely a page turner as I got so enthralled I didn't want to put it down.” -Booksprout Reviewer “Good storyline, it kept me engaged. Good amount of action. I can’t wait to see where the series goes from here.” -Booksprout Reviewer

Alderney's Dark Past: Unearthing Truth and Dignity
A Significant Chapter in Holocaust History on British Soil
Lord Eric Pickles, the United Kingdom's Post-Holocaust Issues Envoy and Head of the UK Delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, has announced a momentous initiative. In a bid to shed light on a dark chapter in history, a review of evidence will be conducted into the number of prisoners who died on the Channel Island of Alderney during the Nazi occupation. Alderney's Historical Significance The camps on Alderney hold a unique place in Holocaust history, not only because they were located on British territory but also due to the evidence they provide of 'extermination through labor' during the construction of Hitler's Atlantic Wall. Seeking Truth and Dignity In recent years, there has been widespread speculation about the number of individuals who perished in these camps. Lord Pickles passionately emphasizes the importance of uncovering the truth, not only to honor the memory of the deceased but also to counter the distortions propagated by conspiracy theorists. He asserts that exaggerating or minimizing the death toll is itself a form of Holocaust distortion, posing a serious threat to preserving the memory of the Holocaust and fostering a world free from genocide. An Expert-led Inquiry To ensure a rigorous and impartial investigation, Lord Pickles has, therefore, appointed a team of eleven renowned experts from across the globe. This distinguished group will, in addition, meticulously examine archives from various European sources and, in collaboration, pool their expertise to determine the most accurate number of people who lost their lives under the Nazi occupation. Collaboration with Yad Vashem The endeavor will also receive invaluable support from the Archives at Yad Vashem, the world's leading Holocaust center, known for its unparalleled dedication to preserving and disseminating historical evidence. March 2024: The Moment of Truth After thorough analysis and examination of records, the expert group will present its findings in a comprehensive report, set to be published in March 2024.
The Team of Experts
The esteemed team, composed of scholars and researchers with diverse backgrounds, is as follows: - Dr. Paul Sanders (NEOMA Business School, Reims, France) - Project Chair - Professor Marc Buggeln (Freie Universität, Berlin, Germany) - Dr. Gilly Carr (University of Cambridge, UK) - Dr. Daria Cherkaska (Staffordshire University, UK) - Mr. Kevin Colls, MSc (Staffordshire University, UK) - Dr. Karola Fings (Heidelberg University, Germany) - Professor Fabian Lemmes (Universität des Saarlandes, Germany) - Benoit Luc, MA (Directeur du Service Départemental de l'Office National des Combattants et Victimes de Guerre de Loire-Atlantique, France) - Jurat Colin Partridge OBE (Alderney) - Professor Caroline Sturdy Colls (Staffordshire University, UK) - Professor Robert Jan Van Pelt (University of Waterloo, Canada)
The Expert Group's Scope
The terms of reference for the expert group are as follows: - Review knowledge and records to ascertain the number of prisoners who died in Alderney during the Nazi occupation. - Examine knowledge and records to determine the number of prisoners, forced laborers, and slave laborers of all nationalities who passed through Alderney. - Assess public submissions that may be relevant to points (1) and (2) and incorporate pertinent evidence into the final report. - Produce a comprehensive report detailing the inquiry's findings.
An Open Invitation to the Public
Demonstrating a commitment to transparency, Lord Pickles and the expert group, in addition, wholeheartedly encourage members of the public to actively participate in this review of evidence. Furthermore, individuals who possess relevant information, files, or calculations related to the number of deceased or, correspondingly, the movement of forced and slave laborers/prisoners through Alderney are invited to submit their findings. How to Contribute Submissions should adhere to the specified format and, furthermore, be sent via email to: [email protected]. The deadline for public submissions is November 1, 2023. In the context of this crucial review, Lord Pickles expresses his hope that, above all, this effort will dispel conspiracy theories and provide closure to the Alderney community, who diligently continue to commemorate the deceased at the Hammond War Memorial every May. Through the painstaking process of uncovering the truth and, importantly, honoring the memory of those who suffered, this initiative aims to ensure lasting dignity and remembrance for the victims of this dark and haunting period in history. If This Can Could Talk!
When pulling some films out of storage, we ran across this nondescript can. No label, just a bit of edge numbering (that doesn’t really look like any of our collections’ old numbering), and the can is pretty beaten up and corroded.
The film inside it was fine, but it’s what’s really inside the can that’s so special!
From c. 1948-1950, the names of students and their schools!
These could be the signatures of some “A/V boys” who handled showing educational films in classrooms, though there are a number of girls’ signatures. Back in the day when 16mm films were a regular feature of classrooms, there was usually one boy chosen by a teacher to retrieve the film projection cart from a storage room or the library, and pick up the film that would be shown on it in the classroom. This doesn’t mean girls never got chosen to do that job, but it generally was a boy.
As the film was circulated to schools throughout the southeast, someone started signing and then everyone started doing it. Let’s take a look at the names and places, some of which are a little hard to make out.
Billy Pafford, Glynn Academy, Brunswick, GA
Coleman Williams, Bay High 1949
Ray Buchanan, Bay High, Panama City, Fla.
Bobby Burns, St. Simons Island, Georgia 1949
Stevie Shannon, CCHS, Vicksburg, Miss.
Harold Laird
Harold Lee
Carl Wilson, Charlotte, NC, 1948
Philip Hollum, Carr Central High
Bill Webb, Pensacola High, Pensacola, Fla
Barbara Ragsdale, Vicksburg, Miss.
Fort Smith, Arkansas
Bettye Sue Edmonds, CCHS, Vicksburg, Miss.
Royce Atwell, Bay High, Panama City, Fla
Lillian Pitts, Bay H. School, Panama City, Fla
Bobby Norris, 1902 Ho____, Brunswick, Georgia
Jim McCavilla, Grenada High, Mississippi
Bill Brook, HHS, Columbia, MO
Bob Crews, Columbia, MO
Joe Andrews, Bay County High, Panama City, Fla.
Bruce Green, Bay HIgh, Panama City, Fla
Morgan Thompson
Ann Robertson, Vicksburg, Miss.
Jerre Munn, Bay High, Panama City, Fla
Shil Boyd (S.A.S.), Statesville, NC
Ann Langston, Piedmont J.H.S., Charlotte, NC 9-29-49
Tommy ____pper, Chattanooga High, Chattanooga, Tennessee
March 8, 1950 Martha Nevels, Vicksburg, Miss., CCHS 11th grade
Bill Webb, Pensacola High 1949-50 [second time he signed]
Grenada, Miss.
Bettye Edmonds, CCHS, ‘51 [second time she signed]
Stevie Shannon, ‘51 [second time she signed]
Homer Cahoun, Grenada, Miss.
Bill Angell, Columbia, Mo. H.H.S.
Wayne Howell, Piedmont, Ala.
Marvin Pickle, Bay High
North Canton School, ______ 352, Canton, _______
You can find out a lot about folks in Ancestry. For example: Billy Pafford of Brunswick, GA, was the son of MacieBell and Harry Pafford. Harry was a salesman with the Coca-Cola bottling company. Billy attended Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA, where he was a member of the Science Club and played basketball.
In 1954, Bettye Sue Edmonds was a junior at Texas State College for Women in Denton, Texas:
Bill Angell attended David Henry Hickman High in Columbia, MO (HHS).
‘Stevie’ Shannon of Vicksburg, Mississippi, is actually Marye Stevens Shannon. She later attended Mississippi State College for Women.
Yet another example of the interesting things you find in old film cans, and one reason why this job can be so much fun!

You mentioning the non-consummation makes me think of something many handwave away, that there should have been a 5 year timeskip. So 13 year old Sansa should have been 18. And in the original outline she was meant to have a child with Joffrey so not a virgin. Anyone who thinks Sansa can annul her marriage with Tyrion is as dumb as her. And those same idiots think she can somehow rule the North when Robb disinherited her?! And this easy, lazy way her stans try to solve this impossibility is Jon.
Let me tell you the story of this one specific seventeenth-century divorce I researched as part of my thesis.
Frances Carr was married at age 14 to the 13-year-old Earl of Essex. Owing to the couple's young age, they didn't live together for the first few years of their marriage, but even when they moved in together they didn't like each other. At all. Not even a little bit.
Meanwhile, Frances was a renowned beauty at court and eventually fell in love with the Earl of Rochester, King James's favourite (and yes, by favourite I do mean lover – it was complicated). She wants to divorce her husband and marry him. Her husband couldn't agree more. They apply for divorce on the grounds of non-consummation.
Did they get it?
Well.
First they had to explain why they hadn't consummated the marriage. The husband wasn't willing to humiliate himself and ruin his future marriage prospects by claiming to be impotent, so he had to go with, "I just hate her so much my dick literally doesn't work with her. Any other woman is fine. Save me and my dick." He had to do this because "We did not have sex with each other because we do not want to have sex with each other" was not reason enough for the Church.
They then had to jump through all sorts of hoops, from the Church trying to force them to wait three years on a technicality to Frances having to be publicly examined for proof of virginity. This despite the fact that King James, the head of the Church of England, was leaning really heavily on the Church to give them the divorce so his boyfriend could marry the hottest girl he could find (like I said, complicated).
The divorce did eventually go through, and she did remarry. But it took years, and a lot of chicanery, and a fair amount of personal humiliation for all involved. And that was because the CoE did not – and does not – want people thinking marriages can be undone on a whim. It displeases God, and more importantly it undermines their authority.
Now. Think of how much worse of a pickle Sansa is in.
For one, the Faith of the Seven, who conducted her wedding, are currently under the iron grip of religious extremists, who will absolutely not relax the rules to help her.
For another, there's no indication Tyrion would want to help either. He thinks she was in on Joffrey's murder! He thinks she split and left him holding the bag on purpose! Why on earth would he be prepared to further humiliate himself for her sake?
Finally, yeah, this possibility was riper when there would have been a timeskip, but Sansa might not stay a virgin forever. She may sleep with Harry, Petyr may rape her, whatever. I've never been entirely clear if GRRM believes in the hymen myth or if he's just deconstructing it like everything else, but if Sansa can't produce evidence of a vaginal freshness seal, she's doomed. The best she can hope for is Tyrion dies, either in Essos or fairly quickly in Westeros.
But, of course, the show got bored with that limitation and dropped it, and her fans are more than thrilled to be given a permission slip to disregard inconveniences.
#asks#anon#before you start cheering on frances carr for getting her divorce#quick disclaimer: she and her new husband definitely murdered a guy#and they weren't even good at it#i mean come on people poison is supposed to be subtle you fucking mangled the guy#though in fairness the guy did suck#though also in fairness they got off with social ruin while their paid accomplices got hanged so fuck em

GASP! As any regular reader will know, I am extremely biased in favour of arts colleges, and the sight of a music college at the start of this week’s show caused my heart to double-time. Honestly, I haven’t been so excited since Courtauld’s magnificent run two seasons ago.
DUNDEE: 145 ROYAL NORTHERN COLLEGE OF MUSIC: 135
Team Vibe: Dundee: a dinner party, with a Spotify playlist entitled Chilled Out Weirdness, featuring lots of mid-price wine, with polite goodbyes
Royal Northern College of Music: a dinner party, with a Spotify playlist entitled Weird Vocal Shit My Opera Teacher Won’t Like, featuring lots of mid-price wine, descending into the ad-hoc multi-person performance of Eight Songs for a Mad King with additional piano
Grandad Count: RNCM the slightly older with an average age of 24. Who cares! They’re MY PEOPLE.
Diversity Count: Not the worst, but not the best.
Style News: Dundee the clear winners here, bringing two bold images in the form of strawberry knitted tank top (Russell) and fishy – carp? – print shirt (Spurrell). RNCM, I expect more from you! Plain-coloured tops WILL NOT DO.
Cult Hero Of The Episode: I was dreadfully tense for this episode, because musicians (including one composer, Wills, who looked familiar, and two vocalists, my specialism) on UniChall is basically the same as me being on there. It was a shaky start, and it looked like the casually confident Dundee were going to punish them (I did like Captain Stonier’s unflappability), but minute by minute, RNCM clawed their way back. The last time I was so heartily shouty at the telly I was watching the Euros final. YES! Musicians CAN know stuff about pickled plums and Russian physicists! I’m giving it to all them, because though they were just pipped to the post, they might hopefully come back as a high-scoring loser.
Handsome Person of the Episode: Captain Chrisp was giving me Anya Taylor-Joy in The Queen’s Gambit vibes. But mmm, Carew. Except for the tattoo of some music on your arm (if this must be done I insist it must be in 5/8 and be serialist), you had me at ‘Sega Genesis?’.
Horror Bonus Round: (Jez, reading this in one breath, the timbre of his voice descending with increasing gloom): ‘Astrophysicists uses the abbreviation CDM for the universal material that is assumed to exist with little or zero relative velocity under the under the standard cosmological model. CDM stands for ‘Cold what?’
Regular Music Fail By Composition PhD-owning Composer, Kerry Andrew: ‘The X-Files!’ I yelled, in terror, after 1.234 seconds of the synth-based TV theme round, when I have watched all of Stranger Things (the correct answer) twice because I loved it so. ARGH! Wasn’t quick enough to get Bladerunner or Assault on Precinct 13, though did get Twin Peaks in a heartbeat, because we watched it after Girl Guides in 1990. Good God, I’m old. Props to Carew for getting the Beethoven piano question in no time at all.
Dream Bonus Question Round: 2/3 in the screenwriters round, 2/3 in the Women’s Prize for Fiction, 2/3 in the British coastal geography (’Scarbados!’ I shouted), 3 out of 4 in the John Le Carre film adaptions. Standard.
Jezza-Watch: It’s time for Let’s Guess What’s On Jezza’s Tie! What was it tonight? Owls? Snails? Answers welcome; I need to know.
‘Low temperature fusion?’ guessed Dundee’s Captain Stonier. ‘No, it was cold fusion,’ said Jez, stony-faced, in the manner of a terrifying 1970s headmaster from a children’s horror novel. ‘We asked for a two-word term and you gave a three-word term.’ ‘OK. Sorry,’ said Captain Stonier, meekly, bearing the brunt for all of us.
‘Who’d have thought time-wasting would be so useful?’ Jezzo said, after the gaming bonus round. Oh Jeremy, you don’t even BELIEVE in your own curmudgeon-li-ness. You’re not fooling anyone, you know...
Kerry and Andy’s Score: 25, with Andy doing the majority of the leg-work.
Brain Food: Hearty vegetable soup. WINTER IS COMING.
