New In Town (AKA Anustart)

Seeing as I haven't actually played the sims in a little while, I thought I'd pick up the scenario "New In Town" and have a little fun with that.

Of course, Farrah Nouvel needs somewhere to live, so I renovated Piccola Luce in Tartosa for her. Upstairs has been converted into a studio apartment for Farrah to rent out to bring in a little extra cash while she gets herself established in Tartosa.

‘How can you see anything from down here?’ teased Isaiah, leaning his hands on his knees to crouch face-to-face with Luce. Irritatingly, since her trip to America he had grown at least three inches and she had stayed the same height. She was now barely taller than his shoulder, causing him face more amusement than she felt he had any right to.

‘Careful,’ she said, leaning closer to him, so that their noses almost touched, ‘I can still kick your legs from under you.’

‘Only part you can reach,’ he teased, straightening quickly nonetheless. A smirk rose to his lips, but he didn’t step away from her.

Luce shot him an innocent smile. ‘I don’t know about that,’ she mused, surprised by the shift behind his eyes that she couldn’t quite place as she dipped her gaze.

‘Underhand tactics,’ he warned in a low voice.

‘I disagree,’ she told him saccharinely. ‘“From down here” it seems like a smart option.’

Isaiah worked his jaw as he took a step away from her. There was a slight scowl on his face, but she knew there was very little seriousness behind the gesture. It was all a game between the two of them. A game she hadn’t necessarily realised before.

‘You missed me really, Isaiah Jesus,’ she teased, a little grateful that she didn’t have to crane her neck so much to look at him now.

There was a flicker of a smile across his lips, one laced with far less teasing than she’d expected.

‘Maybe a little,’ he conceded, before picking up the suitcase Ada had insisted she buy. ‘Now come on, Small Heath awaits.’

Luce grinned then, grateful that it had been Isaiah who had come to pick her up from the station rather than anybody else. Grateful that it was somebody who wouldn’t make the whole thing feel like a chore, but rather something they might actually have wanted to do.

Quando Lilly è arrivata a casa aveva, tra i suoi giocattoli (essenzialmente peluche e qualche automobilina), questa piccola torcia LED, una cinesata da un euro o giù di lì, la cui luce era già abbastanza fioca per le batterie quasi morte, infatti da lì a poco si è spenta del tutto.

Avrei potuto buttarla, andare dal cinese qui all'angolo e prenderne un'altra, invece ho preferito spendere di più e comprare delle batterie nuove online (questi formati a bottone li trovi solo lì, ne esistono centinaia e a volerli comprare in negozio ti tocca girare con l'auto 3000 posti e inquinare come un cargo merci, oltre il sangue che butti), ma non tanto per il discorso di non buttare e salvare l'ambiente (sì, io ci provo ogni volta che non me lo scordo, ma non mi fascio la testa se non ci riesco), quanto per il fatto che lei adora vedermi riparare le cose, si mette affianco a me e mi guarda, meravigliata, non importa cosa, anche falciare il giardino, riparare un lavandino, saldare un filo su un circuito, ogni volta che vede le mie mani trafficare su qualcosa si mette affianco a me e mi guarda, in silenzio, per tutto il tempo, e vi confesso che è uno dei momenti più belli delle mie giornate, è come se sentissi di essere il suo eroe, che fa magie, sì, delle inenarrabili minchiate il più delle volte, ma agli occhi di una bimba di 4 anni sembrano miracoli, e vi giuro che non c'è notte nella quale io non sogni che lei un bel giorno si appassioni a queste cose, perché se così sarà non ci sarà nulla che non potremo fare insieme.

C’è una piccola tristezza in alcuni di noi. Sono le parole mai giunte a destinazione.

Le abbiamo pensate, formulandole molte volte, immaginando dialoghi a nostra misura. Le abbiamo spesso trascritte, perché ogni verbo, ogni costrutto, dicesse con esattezza ciò che volevamo rappresentare.

Le abbiamo concepite in preda alla rabbia, alla passione, le abbiamo redatte pieni d’amore. Nell’abitacolo in silenzio, prima di scendere dall’auto; camminando corrucciati, verso il lavoro; esausti sul divano, di fronte a un film che non ci interessava davvero: instancabili, le abbiamo date alla luce un po’ ovunque.

Ci siamo persino compiaciuti nel dirle ad alta voce dopo l’ultimo colpo di lima, ma sono rimaste lì.

E ora che il momento per indirizzarle è passato, ora che la città è vuota, esse sono simulacri senza spirito, altari di un culto che non divenne religione, testimoni di un passato che non fu mai presente.

‘You can’t hide in here forever.’

The simple words were spoken with no gentleness, and yet the fact they had been said at all gave Luce a moment’s pause. She looked up from her book slowly, not that she’d been able to focus on any of the words. Of all the people to arrive outside her door, she hadn’t expected Thomas Shelby to be the one to do it. Stan, Hal, or perhaps even Isaiah might have made sense. But not him.

‘I’m not hiding,’ she defended, though even she knew it was a weak attempt. After everything that had happened, it was only natural for her to want to run. But the threat of others stalking the shadows around her made running feel impossible. Without people around her, there was no chance of feeling safe. The Italians had made certain of that.

‘Then you can go back to work.’

‘I –’ Luce gawped at him, not entirely sure what she was meant to say to that. She knew he was right, knew that he had every right to fire her for being out of the office and not actually too ill to go in. And yet, there was something about his expression that gave her the impression that wasn’t what his qualm was.

‘Changretta is gone,’ he told her simply. ‘The others, if they know what’s good for them, won’t be around soon.’

‘It’s the soon that bothers me,’ she muttered.

‘And if they do, they won’t touch you,’ he assured her.

Even with the stern look on his face, Luce found that for once she couldn’t buy into his confidence. She’d seen what they had done, had seen the kinds of people Sylvain now worked with and what they were willing to do. Even if they didn’t come for her because of Luca, they would because of Kimber and his gang. Because of what Hal had done.

Tommy lit up a cigarette and placed it between his lips. Silence settled between them until he released a long drag. When he spoke next, he was already turning away, the decision made.

‘Isaiah is downstairs,’ he said simply. ‘Until you tell him to leave, he’s going to be there.’ Luce wanted to argue, wanted to say that she didn’t need a babysitter in the city any longer, and that she certainly wasn’t going to be fleeing any time soon. But she didn’t. Because a part of her was a little grateful to know there would be somebody armed with her if things got too dangerous.

The Piccola Rossa Series Dialogue Edit

Isaiah: We could go. During another boring meeting that the two of them have to attend, Isaiah suggest that they leave. While the idea is something Luce is grateful for, she also knows that they both need to be in the meeting.

Isaiah: You look good, Luce. // Luce: OK. Isaiah goes to collect Luce for a celebration evening with the Shelbys and admits that she looks good. However, due to some of the tensions between them at the time, Luce can’t keep the scepticism out of her voice, no matter how sincere he is.

Luce: OK, that was stupid. After Isaiah does something that doesn’t seem to fit in with the usual stoic nature of his personality, Luce can’t help but chuckle. His little smirk shows just how glad he is that things between them are slowly getting back to how they once were.

Isaiah: I’m not going to make it easy. // Luce: Good. While it takes a little while for Isaiah to agree to helping Luce learn to fight, he vows that things aren’t going to be easy. But easy wasn’t why she went to him with the ask, and she’s grateful that he might just make things realistic in teaching her to fight rather than making it that little bit safer as she worried Hal had done.

Luce: Are you flirting with me, Isaiah Jesus? // Isaiah: You finally noticed. During a quiet moment between the two of them, Isaiah flirts with Luce and for once she seems to notice that that’s what his intentions are. It amuses – and irritates a little – Isaiah that it’s taken her so long to realise that he was flirting rather than just being friendly.

Isaiah: It was just an idea. // Luce: How long you been planning this? // Isaiah: A while. When trying to make things better between the two of them once more, Isaiah suggests a trip outside of the city. Luce is initially quiet about the whole thing, and he tries to brush it off as nothing. But Luce questions the whole thing because she doesn’t like not having him as even a friend after everything they went through together in general; her question is the olive branch that he was hoping for.

Il Sogno Giallo di Arles

(racconto di fantasia)

Arles, una piccola città nel sud della Francia, era diventata la tela sulla quale Vincent Van Gogh dipingeva i suoi sogni più vivaci. In quel periodo, i girasoli erano i suoi assoluti protagonisti. Non erano solo fiori, ma un simbolo, una fiamma che bruciava dentro di lui.

Un pomeriggio, mentre il sole calava tingendo il cielo di arancio e rosa, Van Gogh si ritrovò in un campo di girasoli. I fiori, alti e orgogliosi, si piegavano sotto il peso dei petali dorati, quasi volessero toccare la terra con i loro cuori gialli. Vincent prese la sua tela e i pennelli, e iniziò a dipingere.

Con pennellate veloci e vigorose, catturò la luce che danzava tra i fiori, il vento che muoveva le loro teste e il silenzio profondo della campagna. In ogni pennellata, c'era tutta la sua passione, la sua gioia, ma anche una profonda malinconia. I girasoli, per lui, erano un modo per esprimere la bellezza della vita, ma anche la sua fragilità.

Mentre dipingeva, pensava a suo fratello Theo, al quale voleva dedicare queste tele. I girasoli, con la loro luminosità intensa, erano un omaggio alla loro amicizia, un ponte tra due anime unite dall'arte.

Quando l'ultimo raggio di sole scomparve, Van Gogh tornò a casa con la tela ancora umida. Si sedette davanti al camino e osservò l'opera, soddisfatto e commosso. In quel campo di girasoli, aveva trovato la sua felicità, seppur effimera.

La storia della Musica!!!!

Tre giorni di pace e musica. Tre giorni che hanno fatto la storia. Si celebra oggi il 51esimo anniversario del più grande evento di libertà, umanità e lotta pacifica: il Festival di Woodstock. Più che un concerto un pellegrinaggio, una fiera di arte e musica, una comunità, un modo di vivere che ha cambiato per sempre il concetto di libertà. Sul palco, a Bethel (una piccola città rurale nello stato di New York) si sono alternati per tre giornate alcuni tra i più grandi musicisti della storia. Musicisti che provenivano da influenze, scuole musicali e storie differenti ma che avevano in comune ciò che più contava in quei favolosi anni ’60: la controcultura.

Si passava dal rock psichedelico di Jimi Hendrix (che, pur di essere l’ultimo a esibirsi, salì sul palco alle 9 di lunedì mattina per un concerto di due ore, culminato nella provocatoria versione distorta dell’inno nazionale statunitense) e dei Grateful Dead ai suoni latini dei Santana (che regalarono un memorabile set, impreziosito dallo storico assolo di batteria del più giovane musicista in scena: Michael Shrieve) passando per il rock britannico di Joe Cocker (che regalò in scaletta le splendide cover di Just Like a Woman di Dylan e With a Little Help from my Friends dei Beatles) e degli Who all’apice della loro carriera (celebre l’invasione di palco dell’attivista Habbie Hoffman, durante il loro concerto, quasi quanto il lungo assolo di Pete Townshend durante My Generation, con lancio di chitarra finale).

C’era poi il folk, con una splendida Joan Baez su tutti, che suonò nonostante fosse al sesto mese di gravidanza, genere tipicamente statunitense che si alternava a suoni più esotici e orientali, come il sitar di Ravi Shankar. Impossibile dimenticare infine l’intensa performance della regina del soul Janis Joplin, la doppia esibizione (acustica ed elettrica) di Crosby, Stills, Nash e del “fantasma” di Neil Young, che rifiutò di farsi riprendere dalle telecamere e il divertente show dei Creedence Clearwater Revival.

1969, il ���Moon day’ in musica..

Concerti che rimarranno nella memoria di chiunque ami la musica come simbolo di cambiamento, pace e libertà. D’impatto i presenti come pesanti furono le assenze di John Lennon, che si rifiutò di esibirsi per il mancato invito di Yoko Ono, Bob Dylan, padrone di casa (lui che all’epoca viveva proprio a Woodstock) assente per la malattia del figlio, i Rolling Stones, ancora scossi per la morte di Brian Jones e i Doors, alle prese con una serie infinita di problemi legali.

Il vero protagonista dell’evento fu però il pubblico, la “vera star” secondo l’organizzatore Michael Lang, eterogeneo quasi quanto i generi musicali. Da tutta America arrivarono studenti liceali e universitari, hippie, veterani del Vietnam, filosofi, operai e impiegati. Nessuna differenziazione di razza, etnia o colore della pelle: tutti uniti dalla voglia di stare insieme in libertà con il fango a livellare ogni diversità e i capelli lunghi come simbolo di ribellione. Un sogno che oggi sembra lontano anni luce, nelle ideologie come nell'organizzazione.

Da quel 1969 si è provato a più riprese a riproporre Woodstock, con scarsi risultati culminati nell'annullamento del concerto in programma per questo cinquantesimo anniversario, organizzato proprio da Lang e non andato in porto tra una defezione e l’altra, forse perché indigesto ai grandi organizzatori di eventi musicali mondiali. Forse, a conti fatti, meglio così: quell'atmosfera irripetibile era frutto di una spontaneità organizzativa di altri tempi, una magia fuori da ogni schema il cui risultato sensazionale, iconico e significativo fu chiaro solo anni dopo anche agli stessi partecipanti.
