Hey PoN.
Uhm, so I keep getting emails from you. Or someone claiming to be you. I think they're spam since they keep inviting me to "click here to make sure we have your correct corporeal iteration to contact"
So far so common right?
Uh, the computer that's getting them is… it's my DVD player? It's not connected to the internet in any way. It shouldn't even have an email function. It's waking itself up every now and again to do it.
I have no idea where to even START with that?
Here's where I'd stir my tea in an amused but unsurprised fashion.
It's gremlins. They're getting more advanced. They used to just mess with machines, we had a hell of a time during World War 2 with 'em, but they've upgraded to phishing email schemes and other electronic mischief.
Except, you know, they don't actually understand electronics, so you get weirdness like DVD players getting emails. I once had a gremlin infestation in my car radio. Every few days the CD slot would print out a chain letter.
Take the DVD player to be "fixed", even at a mundane repair place. That's often enough to scare it away. Those old WW2 posters are right, maintenance actually does keep them away.

Privacy Concerns: How Gen Z is Protecting Their Data?
What’s the first thing you do when a pop-up asks, “Do you accept cookies?”—immediately click “Accept” or hesitate as if pondering the secrets of the universe?
If you’re Gen Z, the answer might surprise you. While they’re often labelled as the oversharing Snapchat generation, they’re also becoming the poster children for digital privacy warriors. Want to know how? Stick around. By the end of this blog, you’ll not only uncover Gen Z’s surprising strategies for safeguarding their data but also pick up a few tips to reclaim control of your own.
Tumblr media
The Paradox of Gen Z: Masters of Oversharing, Yet Privacy-Conscious
On the surface, Gen Z seems like the generation that lives for Instagram reels, TikTok challenges, and viral tweets. But underneath the filters and hashtags lies a surprising truth: they care—deeply—about their digital footprints. They may post a dance video on TikTok but won’t hesitate to use pseudonyms on Facebook or create private Instagram accounts (finstas) to keep their personal lives personal.
Tumblr media
How Did Gen Z Get So Privacy-Savvy?
Growing Up With Data Breaches
From hearing about massive breaches (remember the infamous Cambridge Analytica scandal?) to watching documentaries like The Social Dilemma, Gen Z grew up knowing that even their memes could fuel someone’s data-mining empire. Lesson learned? Share strategically.
Tumblr media
Cybersecurity 101 Is Their Second Nature
For this generation, two-factor authentication isn’t optional—it’s a lifestyle. “123456” as a password? Please, that’s so 2010. Gen Z knows their passwords should look like they smashed their keyboard in frustration.
Tumblr media
Tech Education in Schools
Unlike older generations, who stumbled their way through the internet’s dark corners, Gen Z often received digital literacy education. They know the difference between a phishing scam and an actual email from their bank. (Pro tip: If it starts with “Dear Customer,” run.)
Tumblr media
Privacy Tips We Can All Steal (Ethically, of Course)
Gen Z is showing us the way, and here are some of their best practices:
Think Before You Link
Clicking on that shady “You’ve Won a Free iPhone!” ad is the digital equivalent of walking into a trap. Gen Z gets it—they avoid suspicious links like the plague.
Tumblr media
Limit Permissions
Why should a weather app need access to your contacts? Gen Z regularly audits app permissions, keeping unnecessary snoopers at bay.
Tumblr media
Use Burners for Fun
They know that creating a “throwaway” email address for subscriptions keeps spam out of their primary inbox.
Tumblr media
The Ironic Humor of Gen Z’s Privacy Stance
Isn’t it ironic that the generation branded as addicted to screens is leading the charge for digital privacy? They’ll meme about data breaches but won’t let companies snoop on their Spotify playlists.
Tumblr media
Conclusion: A Balancing Act
Gen Z proves you can live your best digital life and protect your data. Whether it’s using VPNs, switching to encrypted messaging apps, or simply saying no to invasive permissions, they’re rewriting the rules for online privacy.
The takeaway? Protecting your data doesn’t mean going off the grid; it means being intentional with your digital choices.

Do you think Gen Z has cracked the code on balancing online presence and privacy, or are they just lucky digital natives? Drop your thoughts in the comments below!

It's time for Beginnings, the podcast where writer and performer Andy Beckerman talks to the comedians, writers, filmmakers and musicians he admires about their earliest creative experiences and the numerous ways in which a creative life can unfold.
Tumblr media
On today's episode, I talk to illustrator and comics creator Brian Blomerth. Brian grew up in Newport News, Virginia, and in college started to move towards making art for a living. Some of his early work was for Vice, as well as making tour posters for bands like Phish or album artwork for musicians like Ryley Walker. Since 2019, he's been working on a series of books about 20th century psychonauts starting with Bicycle Day, about the discovery of LSD, and the follow-up, Mycelium Wassonii, about the scientist couple responsible for popularizing the use of psychedelic mushrooms in the US. His most recent book, Lilly Wave, about the life of scientist and psychedelic dolphin tormentor John C. Lilly, came out in October, and it's a delight!
I'm on Twitter here and you can get the show with:

HEADS UP FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO DONATE TO PALESTINIAN GFMS AND PAYPAL
There are some folks who will post links to supposed PayPal donation links. If they look like this, THESE ARE PHISHING SITES TRYING TO STEAL YOUR INFORMATION!!!
Tumblr media
I have had PayPal for over a decade, and I know for a fact that this is not what a donation page looks like for it.
Fees are automatically covered as part of the donation.
The spacing and the janky font sizing are atrocious, and the blue is not the same as what real PayPal uses. The yellow is also too dark to be from actual PayPal.
Most people who use PayPal know this, but if you are asking for DIRECT funds, it is faster and easier to post your personal PayPal link.
This was on @/nessmamomen's blog in her bio before she hastily changed it to the GoFundMe she's been peddling (as of right now, the scam PayPal link is in her bio again though). Her campaign is unvetted for a reason. I have spent nearly an hour combing through everything and investigating because her profile did not sit right with me. I would not normally do this to a poster from Gaza, but I only checked her profile because I wanted to go and personally reblog one of her posts but her bio caught my eye and I decided to investigate her profile. It was previously (from what I've seen of earlier posts) a mixed fandom blog that only reblogged gif sets.
This is the profile. I suggest you block and report.
Tumblr media
This is what an actual PayPal donation page should look like
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I personally went and found actual fundraisers to show you the comparison from the actual PayPal website and expose a scammer in the process.
Please do your research and don't let greedy scammers try to profit off of the suffering of those who are victims of the genocide in Palestine.

I designed this poster for the Phish Halloween run. As luck would have it, they did an entire set of animal songs. So, this went over well with fans.

💕if you get this answer with three random facts about yourself and send this to the last seven blogs in your notifs. Anon or not doesn’t matter, get to know the person behind the blog.
Three more!
1. The family cat who I've alluded to a couple times is named poster nutbag (poster for short) and the story behind that is basically my mom and dad love a band named phish who have a song with a cat in it named poster nutbag and my mom vowed to name a cat poster nutbag one day (also my dad hates cat but that did not stop my mom from getting one mainly for me cause I was sad we were pet-less) but we have a dog now so he's happy too
2. My largest pintrest board is almost 7000 pins which I feel like is an impressive accomplishment
3. My record for finishing a book is 1 whole book in 18 hours, it was if we were villains by m.l Rio and it was really good and only like 300 pages so I just sat down and finished it all in one day, for what it's worth i had nothing else to do
