Happy birthday, David Tennant!!
Thanks for being my muse while I was trying learn to draw people at the end of last year. 🤣 I still have way too many reference photos saved on my phone.

5 for everyone??
5. How did you choose their name and why? Was it simply based on vibes or is there any specific meaning behind the name? Are the reasons behind their name different in- and out of universe?
Oh wow, hope you're ready for a very long explanation because I have a Lot to say about this and a lot of characters dhfgdjafdgj. Including some ~secret never before seen middle name lore~ just for fun! Under a cut because this got very, very long.
(Most of these were chosen by scouring lists of Victorian era names, so I probably don't have to mention that every time. Just take it as a given!)
Harper (Middlename/Theory/Marten/Russula/Twillbert/etc.) Faraday
Since Harper was made as a slightly different character before getting Flondon'd, I don't actually remember the details of their first name specifically! I think I was just angling for something reasonably gender neutral and around the right era, and Harper just stuck. Faraday came when I realized I needed a last name for them and just panic googled Victorian-or-earlier-era scientists and realized that Harper Faraday sounds absolutely delightful to the ear. So, named after Michael Faraday! Which is, ironically enough, about what happened in character too. They do not have a defined middle name because they (and I) forgot they needed one for way too long, so now if asked they usually just say the first thing that comes to mind, which is not usually a name that normal humans have. They will never live "Twillbert" down for the rest of their days.
Phileas Emrys Clarke
Phileas was a combination of Jules Verne reference, it being slightly reminiscent of a recurring family name, and just being objectively fun to me. Clarke fit the vibes more than anything else, plus I liked the idea of it being a name picked up from his time working in Irving's shop! It was initially a job related surname, after all. Emrys came way later and definitely reads to me as one he would have chosen himself (as opposed to his first name, picked up as an urchin, and his surname, received as an older teen), and means immortal, which really loops into his whole "I will never die there's too much cool stuff to do and trouble to get into while I'm alive" very nicely.
Irving Basil Merritt
Hers was extremely vibes based/just names that sounded nice with each other I'll admit! I was going for the sense of like, this is the name of a very stereotypically proper Victorian Englishman, except no this is a very gender-nonconforming tailor/dressmaker who is so very gentle and friendly to literally anyone who comes into her shop and not that at all. Basil, however, is a loose reference to the character of the same name in The Picture of Dorian Gray. Not in a way that means you should be concerned for her own safety! Just. That artistic touch and devotion and queerness really resonates I think.
Caoimhe Ann Coledoc
I knew from the get-go that I wanted her to have a Very Irish Name, and I wanted something that could sound nice alongside her twin (who also needed a Very Irish Name), and who I was naming at the same time. Caoimhe was the one that caught my eye the most, and I especially liked the softer sound of it compared to the rough and tumble butch I was sticking it on. Cian suited her brother pretty well, so together it just worked. Fun fact, Coledoc is not their real last name! It's a derivative of their mother's maiden name, Colloc, or rather the word that was derived from. It's an old Breton word that means beloved, at least according to the sources I've seen. Idk, I'm running with it. Either way, it was a bit of a secret password between the twins, so when Caoimhe descended to the Neath alone and needed a new surname, she kept that close as a reminder of why she had gone. Ann was honestly a bit of an afterthought, just needed a one-syllable name to bridge the gap and it was relatively popular in her region of Ireland around when she was born, so!
Agnes Maria Day
Her entire name has so many layers to it. Baseline it's a play off "Agnus Dei", but it's also a reference to St. Agnes of Rome, who has a very sad story even by saints' standards. Maria is technically her confirmation name, not a middle name, the Italian version of Mary. So her entire name is uhhh extremely Catholic, which makes sense based on how she was raised on the surface! But really that pun kinda took on a life of its own.
Geneviève Blackwell
Another vibes-based name! I knew I wanted something incredibly dramatic sounding, and just kind of picked though name lists until I found some that fit! Still haven't decided on a middle name for her yet, hard to get something to fit alongside the others sdlkghfgklhd.
Hyakinthos Athanasiou
I put waaaaay too much effort into this guy's name I'll be honest. Hyakinthos (also known as Hyacinthus) was the name of a Spartan prince, beloved by both Apollo and Zephyrus, and in some stories killed out of godly jealousy and others by accident. Turned into a hyacinth flower after that. I really loved the contrast between the softness of the floral name vs the whole "was murdered" thing, drawing a line of death through his entire character, and then additionally some victorian floriography assigns the meaning of "sincere care" to hyacinths, which! Yeah!! And then Athanasiou is a really fun one, because given the time period he's from it literally means "son of Athanasios" rather than being like. A family name? But the kicker is that Athanasios means immortal. He's the son of immortal and he can't die. Running around in circles and kicking my feet up about this guy I had a Blast figuring out a name for him that was both thematic and actually historically accurate! This literally could have been a name back then!! Sorry I'm just so excited about that.

Any opinions/ideas about the Nagpa? They’re basically just Skeksis so I like ‘em
Tumblr media
You hit the nail on the head friend, Nagpa are Skeksis with the serial numbers filed off, along with some extra details that we can use for some delightful adventure hooks. Here's some Nagpa lore, with some of my own revisions:
Originally a coven of thirteen wicked mages, The Nagpa sought power above all things, eventually getting it into their heads that if they devoured the flesh of a god, they could ascend to a state of semi-divinity. This led them to attempt to summon, bind, and slay a god/throw their lot in with a divine civil war/whatever blasphemous action works with the backstory of your campaign
For this action, they were cursed so that their appearance befitted their monstrous character (withered vultures) and forced to wander eternally, abandoning their fine holdings and preventing them from easily congregating in one place. Still in possession of their great magic however, it's not unusual to find a Nagpa in possession of a number of lairs, a portable fortress, or flying domicile, skirting the rules of the curse while allowing them to maintain their opulence.
Because of their secretive dealings pre-curse, all Nagpa have an ability to detect when anyone within 100 miles speaks of them or any of their conspirators. They usualy hunt and kill those who are loose lipped about their existence, allowing them to remain secret for centuries and making them amazing narrative boogymen.
Maintaining schemes that last for generations at a time, it's not uncommon for a down-on-their-luck Nagpa to attach itself to some group using its lifetimes of knowledge and magical ability to bargin for what it desires.
Before We get into the adventure hooks, I wanted to share this amazing youtube comment that I found while doing research for this post:
Phileas Liebmann:
This is such a great scene. In just a few shots we learn everything we need to know about the Skeksis: they're decadent, they're cruel, they hold themselves higher than all other life, they despise each other, but are obligated to dine together nonetheless, hinting that they are traditional folk. Show, don't tell at its finest!
Hooks:
The locals speak of a withered figure who stalks about the badlands, trading treasures for secrets and enacting powerful magic at terrible prices. After dealing with one or two knockon effects of this entities dealings, the party end up meeting it through dumb luck or desperate need, at which point the vulture headed man introduces himself with humble modesty as "Your humble Grandfather Greatest". Grandfather can pay in rare treasures if they're willing to do him some favours, each a small step towards his return to true power.
A beloved sage is dead, murdered by magic, and his young apprentice is on the run. The bounty is steep, but when the party catch up to their quarry they hear a very different tale from her recounting: She and her teacher had spent years delving into a trove of lore from a fallen elven kingdom, but were attacked by some kind of vulture-witch after finishing their latest translation. Apparently the creature is still after her, and by telling them she's put them in danger as well.
Finding that a rover's life quite suits her, one of the nagpa has set herself up as advisor to a clan of travelling marauders, making herself indispensable by using her sorcery to aid their raids on various settlements. Convinced that the initial nagpa ritual still could have worked, she steers these brigands towards temples and other holysites looking to strip the meat off demigods and knaw the marrow of saintly relics.

Hi! From the relationships ask, 7 with Phileas and whomever you heart wishes! I'm just wishing to imagine more of Phileas my beloved, really. Thank you!
Hope you don't mind me using Will Charity for this!
7. Do they (or would they) pursue the other character’s affection, and if so, how? Do they tell the other character how they feel? Try to earn their admiration? Woo them with romantic gestures? Flirt with them, skillfully or otherwise?
In my main au, Phileas is very... uncomfortable with the idea of trying the court because he's basically made himself believe a relationship with Will could never work. However, Will is actually very open to a relationship, but both of them are fools and need to communicate!
When they have an emotional moment on the desert island and kiss, Phileas admits that he is developing feelings, but he's scared of what society back in England would think, if he'll abandon and hurt Will like he did Estella. Will tells him that Phileas will never do that and to hell with English society! He wants the courting to happen, and if it makes things easier, he'll court Phileas.
It's a lot of subtle things, sweet comments and letters, little gifts Phileas will like, but Phileas does his own, similar gestures. Although, he is dreadful at flirting because he has no clue what he's doing.

It’s Sunday night, you know what that means!
John’s useless commentary about Around the World in 80 Days, this time for episode six! The island episode!
I’m live blogging it this week, rather than just writing everything up at the end, cause I know this is a heavy episode
-I have every right to be angry about the cliche of ‘it could be worse’ and then a storm happening
-I still can’t believe they did a ‘I can still hear his voice’ joke
-Phileas continues to avoid hugging people, even though he clearly wants to. Sir, you are very autistic / adhd coded, and in this house, we love and respect you (and relate to you, haha)
-YES THEY PLAYED MY FAVORITE SONG FROM THE SOUNDTRACK THAT SOUNDS LIKE IT COULD BE IN GOOD OMENS!
-Hilariously played over them walking and Abigail realizing she has FEELINGS for our beloved Passepartout
-The continuous jokes of Abigail wanting a bath, girl, you are a mood
-Another damn cliche of them following their own foot prints. I hate this show (I love this show)
-Phileas is allowed to have a tantrum, he deserves it. All of them do, actually.
-Bellamy needs to be kicked in the taint
-THE FUCKING DORIAN(sp?) FRUIT! Just plug your noses, guys, enjoy the custard texture
-’I can’t eat this. I’m French!’
-This episode has absolutely amazing music in it. Hell, this whole show does, the soundtrack is amazing
-Everyone has guilt~! And are stuck together with their guilt~!
-Abigail and Passepartout’ relationship development brings me joy
-The fact that they speak about depression with a very serious tone makes me happy, depression (melancholy) was not a topic people liked to address back then
-I feel bad for Passepartout, but I hope he feels a bit better having told the truth, finally.
-Valet. Why did you pronounce the T?
-Phileas deserves this tantrum as well. Seriously, it’s only been a few days and he’s found out he’s been betrayed several times from people he considered his friends.
-You guys kept talking about fanservice with DT in this show, there are a lot of shirtless moments for IK as well???
-Literally drawing a line in the sand, alright, now you’re a child, Phileas
-Their friendship... it just...
Tumblr media
-How the hell am I going to make this episode work in my fanfic? Like, I have to write for SIX CHARACTERS, NOT THREE! Phileas is upset, Passepartout feels like shit, Abigail is caught in the middle, and what do I do with Aziraphale, Crowley, and Will? I know this is the episode where I want Will and Phileas to finally kiss in the story, but what do I do with Crowley and Aziraphale??? I think that’s when they finally fully reveal who they are though.
-’Always making you the joke of his butts’. Passepartout, never change, I love you
-I love that this episode is basically what causes Phileas to finally snap and allow himself to show more emotions rather than trying to hide them.
-Abigail, you beautiful, beautiful woman, I am so happy that you have the brain cells on this island
-Ooooh... why did you have to play that song over Passepartout building the raft...
-How did... you find a sail, Passepartout???
-Fortescue, you poor man. Bellamy, you twat
-Well, it’s nice that the Reform Club wanted to honor Phileas. Does everyone call him Foggy? Poor guy.
-Interesting that Phileas has some medical knowledge. :o But it’s also nice that he’s trying to help Passepartout, even thought he spent all of yesterday being rightfully upset
-Phileas is 46???
-Only David Tennant can move like such a wet noodle, and that’s honestly how he got the role of Crowley, so it’s fantastic
-Passepartout and Abigail...! *clutches chest* I need to draw them
-How the hell are they gonna get their luggage?
-Gosh, I think this is my favorite episode so far, I love it.
-Also, the preview for the next episode...! Bass Reeves! Another historical figure! :D
