Things You Do Living At The HoL
1- Whenever you make yourself food in the kitchen you make three servings. One for you and two for Beel. Beel will smell it and you can never, ever not have something for him.
2- You buy every magazine Mammon is featured in. He makes royalties off of that and you want to support your first man in everything he does.
3- You check on Lucifer’s office every night. You either are bringing him coffee, offering to help, or are ushering him to bed depending on what he’s working on.
4- You text Diavolo, Barbatos, and the PH group every night to tell them you love them and that you’ll see them tomorrow since you can’t say goodnight in person most nights.
5- You find yourself saying “God” a LOT less. Either the angels are offended because you’re using their father’s name in vain. Or the demons are offended because you’re mentioning someone who hates them/their father they hate. It’s almost eradicated from your vocabulary.
6- When in the Human Realm and you see religious people you have to walk by them quickly because you can’t tell them how much you know about God, Demons, and the afterlife.
7- On nights you can’t sleep, you find yourself in the kitchen either talking to Beel or making food for him. You cherish those late night talks.
8- When Levi has a raid planned and you can’t stay with him, you check on him as much as possible to see if he needs anything.
9- You gave up trying to clean Satan’s room. But you DO check to make sure he’s not buried under books. Again. You’ve found him a few times under a bookalanche.
10- You make sure to tell Asmo he’s beautiful at least once a day. He pouts if you don’t.
11- You make sure Belphie wakes up long enough to do his schoolwork on days he does virtual schooling. On days he goes to RAD, you check to see how he’s doing.
12- On days you are in charge of dinner (volunteering or scheduled), you tend to make foods that are easy to make in bulk. Spaghetti, pancakes, quesadillas, and so forth. Not just because of Beel’s appetite (though that is the main reason), but this is a house of 7 men who are pretty fit. They all have a very healthy appetite. Plus there’s ALWAYS a chance for the PH group or Diavolo & Barbatos to come by.
13- You don’t lock the door when you use the bath in the main bathroom of the HoL. In the event someone desperately needs the toilet/sink in there, you don’t want to get up out of the water to open the door. Too much hassle.
14- You have a specific spot you sit at in the living room. The demons are weirded out by you have a particular spot you like, but they’ve avoided sitting there so that they’re never in the way.
15- You look at the sky to tell the time. You’ve started to figure out when it’s day or night depending on the moon’s positions and the stars in the sky. Specific hours still require a watch/clock. But day or night, you’ve got it mostly down.
16- You keep a shelf of books in your room for Satan. They’re mostly cat mystery novels since he loves detective novels and cats. You steal them back from his room, though, so he can’t add them to the mess that is his room.
17- You check on the pranks for the Anti-Lucifer League and work with them on good times for pranks. You’ve explained that if he’s not busy with something important, it’s more aggravating to him. They don’t believe you, but they sometimes listen to you when you ask them to hold off on a prank.
18- You tend to ask Mammon and Satan to go grocery shopping with you. Mammon can find the best deals and Satan is knowledgeable about what’s freshest in the store. Beel eats while he shops and groceries are more when he’s there. Belphie gets tired, Levi complains the whole time, Asmo just looks at reflective surfaces and slows the process down, and Lucifer is usually too busy.
19- You don’t watch porn. You can’t. Asmo can tell when you do because he can just sense when you’re horny and he tells EVERYONE. It’s embarrassing and sometimes you just want to have some self service time rather than end up in a wheelchair!
20- The wheelchair. It started as a joke from Solomon, honestly. Teasing that you likely have so much intimacy you struggle to walk. Diavolo didn’t realize he was joking and actually bought it for you. So you do actually own a wheelchair at the HoL. It’s in your closet, all charged up (Diavolo sprung for a fancy motorized one). When you feel like messing with the brothers, you’ll break it out and use it around the first floor and then they get to try and figure out who made you use it. It slightly backfires if anyone comes to visit though.
Solomon starts flirting and stating that he’d like a turn to make you use it. Simeon turns redder than a tomato. Luke gets mad and yells at the demons for hurting you, assuming they’ve injured you by their fighting (NO ONE IS CORRECTING HIM FOR FEAR OF ANGERING SIMEON). Barbatos frets over you being injured. Diavolo just teases you and asks if the chair is comfortable enough.

Electrolytes and why they're important especially when water f4st!ng:
Electrolytes are electrically charged minerals, such as sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, chloride, bicarbonate, and phosphate. They are involved in various physiological processes.
During a water f4st, the body can lose electrolytes through various means, such as urine, sweat, and even through breathing.
Without sufficient intake of electrolytes, the body may experience imbalances that can lead to various health issues including:
muscle cramps, dizziness, weakness, irregular heartbeats, and in severe cases, even life-threatening conditions such as de4th.
Here's a breakdown of each electrolyte and its role in the body:
Sodium (Na+):
Role: Sodium is the primary extracellular cation (positively charged ion) and plays a vital role in maintaining fluid balance and blood pressure. It is essential for nerve impulse transmission and muscle function.
Source: Commonly found in table salt (sodium chloride) and many processed foods.
Potassium (K+):
Role: Potassium is the primary intracellular cation. It helps regulate fluid balance, nerve impulses, muscle contractions (including the heart), and maintains proper cellular function.
Source: Found in various fruits and vegetables, such as bananas, oranges, potatoes, and spinach.
Calcium (Ca2+):
Role: Calcium is essential for maintaining strong bones and teeth. It also plays a key role in muscle contractions, nerve transmission, blood clotting, and cell signaling.
Source: Dairy products, leafy greens, nuts, and fortified non-dairy milk.
Magnesium (Mg2+):
Role: Magnesium is involved in hundreds of enzymatic reactions in the body, including energy production, protein synthesis, muscle and nerve function, and maintaining healthy bones.
Source: Found in nuts, seeds, whole grains, leafy greens, and legumes.
Chloride (Cl-):
Role: Chloride is the major extracellular anion (negatively charged ion) and works closely with sodium to help maintain fluid balance and osmotic pressure in cells.
Source: Commonly found in table salt (sodium chloride) and many processed foods.
Bicarbonate (HCO3-):
Role: Bicarbonate is involved in regulating the body's acid-base balance (pH level) and is a crucial component of the bicarbonate buffering system.
Source: The body produces bicarbonate as part of normal metabolic processes.
Phosphate (HPO42-):
Role: Phosphate is essential for bone and teeth mineralization, energy production (adenosine triphosphate, ATP), and serves as a component of DNA and RNA.
Source: Found in various foods, including meat, dairy products, nuts, and whole grains.
To prevent these complications and support the body during a water f4st, it is crucial to supplement with electrolytes.
Many people who practice prolonged water f4st!ng or intermittent f4st!ng find it helpful to take electrolyte supplements or consume electrolyte-rich drinks to ensure they maintain proper mineral balance throughout the f4!sting period. However, it is essential to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any regimen or supplement routine, as individual needs may vary.

Urgent appeal to those with kind and loving hearts 🙏🙏
Hello, I hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy.🙏
My family live in tents which lack the minimum standard of living. My father is now very sick, he had a heart catheterization operation before the war. Doctors recommended him to have healthy diet and life style but because of living in a tent, wet with rainwater, full of insects, lacking hygiene, and because of drinking contaminated water, as well as due to the inability to buy healthy food, now my father is very sick. The doctor told him that he has food poisoning and he needs urgent medical care. Do you imagine yourself sick and there is no clean place around you, no bed to sleep on, no warm drink to give your body strength, no medicine to relieve your pain, and no comfortable mattress to give you warmth?
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/6b42cb2c5c0abd4368d26a0929ff4255/ed9aae5ff63f3abe-75/s540x810/637094c2c90d33c33459d6713dc9435d171bd1f1.jpg)
Furthermore, my mother and our innocent little children have caught cold and infectious viral disease😞
Please, we have lost hope in this life, but don't let us lose hope in your humanity.🙏🙏 we just want to live in safety, and peace.
Your help, no matter how small, will save my family from death and disease and give them the happiness they have lost for a whole year of war.
My family campaign has received only £ 1,413 as of 5/10.
An important note: tumblr recently restricted my previous account from sending messages, i did nothing except that I want to save the lives of my family from this nightmare . I made different accounts, but my family name will not change which is Alsaidi family.

It's currently fair season all around our state.
And in true, unfortunate fair fashion, they're giving away live animals as prizes again.
Goldfish have gained a reputation for dying quickly. Which leads many to think of them as fun little toys rather than living beings.
But be aware- They're not dying because they have naturally short lifespans. They're dying from neglect..
The #1 reason goldfish die is because they cannot survive longer than a few weeks without properly aerated water and most people are keeping them in a tiny bowl of stagnant water where they are literally suffocating to death.
If given the proper care though, goldfish can grow to 8+ inches long and live 20 years. Something to think about before making the impulsive decision to bring one home with you from the fair.
This is what proper goldfish care looks like:
🐟 Depending on the type, goldfish should be housed in a habitat that provides about 20 gallons of water per fish. However some varieties require a larger amount of space, around 50–100 gallons.
🐟 Good water quality is critical for keeping a goldfish healthy. The pH should range between 7–8.4 and you should test the water frequently with a water quality test kit.
🐟 Water aeration is vital to maintain oxygen levels within their habitat so they can breathe. This can be provided with an air pump and air stone.
🐟 Filtration is important because goldfish are messy. A filter helps remove small particulates, and it also houses a large portion of the biological filtration needed to keep your water parameters healthy and liveable.
🐟 Unlike most aquarium fish, Goldfish are most comfortable around 72–76 F. So depending on your room temperature, you may or may not need a heater to keep your tank within this range. You should always have a thermometer in your tank to ensure your water temperature is within a healthy range.
🐟 Goldfish are predominately omnivores and should have a diet consisting mostly of sinking pellets. Flake foods are not recommended as it often doesn’t sink and if a goldfish eats at the surface too much, they can develop buoyancy issues. Enrichment food ideas are krill, Daphnia and Brine shrimp.
It doesn't matter that it's "just a fish." They still deserve more than bare minimum care. Monetarily its life may only be worth 25-60 cents to you, or whatever you spent to win it at the fair- but morally, it's still a living creature and it deserves a proper chance.
Thank you.

Miscellaneous info below (Mediums, Contact, etc):
Mediums: I'm a traditional artist and my main medium is watercolor.
I'm not being paid to promote any specific brand, if your looking to start out use what is accessible and affordable to you! With that said here is what I use:
Watercolor: Renesans Half pans, Holbein watercolor tubes, Winsor & Newton Professional, and Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolor.
Watercolor inks: Dr. Ph Martins Radiant Concentrated watercolor and Ecoline Liquid Water Colour (These are why some of my watercolor pieces are so vibrant.)
Brushes: 0.5, 1 & 2 Foldable travel watercolor brushes, and those waterfilled brushes.
Paper: Fabriano Hot Pressed Watercolor paper, I usually bind these into my own books.
Other Mediums: Microns, Prismacolor Color Pencils, Posca Wax pastels, Paint markers, Tombow water based markers, Ballpoint pens, Acryla Gouache, and Crayola crayons.
If you are looking to get into watercolor my best advice is to invest in actual watercolor paper. For watercolor the most important thing is the paper, nice paper can make even crayola look beautiful. 300 Gsm is ideal.
For Mini Paintings:
Liquitex Acrylic Gouache and Golden SoFlat Acrylics
Mini Canvases (3x3in)
Mini Easels (5in)
Clear Gesso
Small paintbrushes, brand does not matter I tend to buy whatever is tiny and is a reasonable price. I use Synthetic brushes.
It should be noted that I do scan in all my artwork, I use a epson perfection v370, I've had this scanner for years and it works pretty well, you just need to mess around with the settings. I edit all my art in Clip Studio Paint to remove any lint or dust and to fix up colors.
[Traditional art can be pretty expensive so I recommend if your looking to try any medium to buy a little bit at a time and buy things piecemeal.]
Other Info:
Business Contact: [email protected] [Don't send me unsolicited trash]
If you wish to contact me for other matters most of my DM's are closed, Best places to contact me is Etsy for order issues, or Ko-Fi. (Don't ask me for my Discord that's for friends only.)
If You see my art getting reposted/re-uploaded, report it, the only accounts I post on are included above. Anywhere else I'm being impersonated. Please don't support low quality repost accounts that steal art from actual artists. Many times these accounts screw over actual artists since they love to monetize and sell stolen work.
I schedule posts on here on all my accounts! Schedule is Mon-Wed-Friday on Zuccnini, Bonus posts/Reblogs are Tues-Thurs and Saturday-Sunday.

Citizen Science and Contributing To Scientific Endeavor When You're Not "A Scientist"
Comments on some of my posts about science and misinformation express frustration with scientific establishments, and want to see more accessibility and attention given to amateurs participating in the scientific process and having their scientific voices heard.
If being involved in the creation of knowledge and discovery is something important to you, that's something I strongly encourage! It's absolutely possible. Amateur researchers with a passion and an eye for detail have made some fantastic discoveries - but what is often glossed over in stories like these are the years of work, the patient dedication, and the collaboration with university researchers that often underlie such discoveries.
The search for truth and information and the passion for science is present in a lot of people who aren't official "scientists" - curiosity is natural! And if participation in scientific observation, hypothesizing, experimentation, and discovering new things about the world is important to you, there are lots of ways to go about contributing - and the new year is a great time to start.
What are you interested in?
Ecology
Observing the world around you is for everybody. Getting invested in the environment of your hometown is for everybody. And, as the Mythbusters famously said,
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/150611fd9bf79f38e5ad5f9b6432dce5/17708eb9c22e5de4-9e/s540x810/5bb1036c3215a666a12b4cfd8d0d606ac785856a.webp)
Some ideas for a local ecology project:
Record the temperature outside every day at the same time - at sunrise, or noon, or sunset, or midnight. Depending on where you are, the local weather recording station may be miles away or on top of a mountain - measure the temperature yourself and compare it each day to what your app says. When is it accurate? When isn't it?
Record the weather every day. How much precipitation? What time of day? What kind?
Record what animals you see every day, where, when, and how many. Or choose a specific animal, like birds, or bees on flowers, or turtles or frogs in a local pond, or whiptail lizards vs. invasive house geckos, and record the numbers you see each day.
Record when in the year you see the first, or last, of a plant or animal. When the crocuses sprout, when the buds appear on the maple trees, when you see the first clover flowers or prickly pear flowers, when the first robin comes out or the first lizards come out of hibernation.
If you have an outdoor cat or a free-roaming dog, attach a GoPro or similar small camera to its collar to see where it goes and what it does.
Identify the plants growing in your neighborhood, and check in on it regularly to keep track of how each one fares in different weather conditions, or if any animals particularly like or don't like to eat it.
Bulk order some test strips, then take a small sample of soil from a local park or water from a local waterway each weekend and test them for PH, lead, chemicals, or whatever. See if it changes over the year, or after a heavy rainfall, or during drought.
Take a photo of the same spot every day for a year.
Linguistics
The study of how people use language! Everybody uses language in some capacity.
Do you have any small children near you? Talk to them! Record how they pronounce things and what they call new (or even familiar) concepts. Look for patterns.
Ask people you know if "dog" and "blog" rhyme, or if "Alohop" is a good pun for a pineapple beer. My family gets ENDLESS amounts of mileage out of this one with each other. Ask people you know questions about how they pronounce things, or what they call things. Make maps of dialectical differences between generations, neighborhoods, etc. Track linguistic shifts in the modern world.
History
Everyone and everywhere has a history, and accurate history is pressingly relevant always.
See if you have a local historical society, library archive, or history museum that is looking for volunteers to transcribe or translate collections.
Get elbow-deep in local archives. You likely have some sort of local archive near you that has not been fully digitized. Go in with a topic you want to learn about - Black families, Jewish communities, how your hometown transferred from Indigenous hands to settler ones, women who owned their own businesses, immigration, inter-racial relationships, sports, ice harvesting, farming practices, contemporary opinions on a major world history event that now seems so inevitable, sports and people's reactions to sports - and read everything in newspapers, wills, deeds, photographs, or other available records about your topic of choice. See if you can find connections that you haven't seen anyone else talking about.
These are just some things that occur to me immediately as something that anyone can do, if you're sufficiently interested in a question and want to discover more about it. The more local your topic, the less likely anyone has a solid answer to whatever you're wondering - and the more immediately relevant to the people around you your discoveries may be!
Combining it with a New Year's Resolution can also get you more motivated to do the things you want to do. Is your resolution to get more exercise? Take a brisk walk each morning and take a picture of the same area every day for a year. Take a walk every weekend down to the lake and count the turtles and frogs you see. Is your resolution to keep a daily diary For Real This Time? If nothing else, resolve to write down the weather and precipitation each day! Do you want to volunteer more or meet new people? Look for citizen science or local history groups! Feeling like you're working toward something Real is a great motivator.
Henry David Thoreau's detailed descriptions of the nature each day around Walden Pond in the 1840s provides a valuable benchmark for modern ecologists to compare environmental and climatic changes since then on a granular level. Silly rhyming poems and idiosyncratic spellings in letters and diaries help linguists track dialectical and pronunciation changes across time. Amateur science is great and valuable! We all can have a part in understanding and paying deeper attention to the world around us, if we want to.
#been sitting on this one for a while ever since I kept getting comments on my post about misinformation about how scientists are all#ivory tower eggheads who don't allow real normal people to Contribute to Science#Please contribute to science! I think everyone who wants to should!!!#science#citizen science

extremely boring facts about long island:
long island's soil has a pH equal to vinegar
the island itself is less than 10,000 years old
long islanders get water from an underground aquifer system
most of long island's population lives in Queens and Brooklyn
long island has a very comprehensive railway network

Hi!! I had a couple of questions:
If I have a vagina and should wish to masturbate, do I need to wash my hands with soap and warm water? Can the pH of the soap be an issue if I am sticking my fingers anywhere near my vagina (since I know that it's a delicate balance in that general area)?
How do I clean my vulvovaginal area? I feel like people name a host of different products online for stuff like "everything showers" and I am just confused. I know you aren't supposed to clean inside, but I also know that some OBs say that you can clean the vulva? I'm just a touch confused (I know this isn't about sex, but it feels important to know, and I don't really want to discuss this with my mum)
Thanks!!
hi anon,
washing your hands is never a bad idea, but unless your hands are particularly dirty or you've recently been handling something you don't want anywhere near your genitals (garbage or jalapenos, for instance), it's not necessary to take a pause specifically to scrub them clean right before you masturbate.
if you find yourself having a bad reaction to a soap or any other personal hygiene or cleaning product - itching, swelling, rashes or hives, etc - then stop use immediately, but just having used soap on your hands shouldn't trigger anything unless you have a very sensitive allergy.
your vulva can be washed gently with warm water and, if you want, a little soap, the same as any other external part of your body.
your vagina can't be washed, since it's inside of you, and it doesn't need to be, because it cleans itself. if self-cleaning isn't going wrong and you're noticing itching, redness, discharge of an unusual color, texture, or smell, or any other irregularities with your vaginal area, rinsing out the vagina won't help anything (and will leave you vulnerable to bacterial infections that could make it even worse). in that scenario, you need to consult with a healthcare provider.

I heard that baking soda/power with water works as an eye flusher for pepper spray, is that true?
no! do not put this into your eyes. the high alkaline ph will fuck up your eye tissues and and undissolved particles of baking soda will scratch your corneas. do not put anything into your eyes except plain CLEAN water or preferably, sterile saline. get one of the big squirt bottles full of sterile saline for cleaning contact lenses. take the whole thing to the protest. the little squirt nozzle is great for controlling the amount and direction of the saline wash
WHY IS THIS A BAD IDEA? - a baking soda/water solution would only work on riot control chemicals that are ACIDIC in nature. acids are things like vinegar, lemon juice, sour candy like warheads, etc. if you put baking soda on chemical exposure sites that have been injured by other ALKALINE chemicals, it will make everything worse. alkaline is the opposite of acidic. when alkalis are strong enough, they will also burn you and injure the cells of your body. alkalis that we have in our houses include things like lye, baking soda/powder, and ammonia (for cleaning). understanding the concept of pH, and the difference between acids and bases (alkalis) is important.
this is the biggest problem with pH-based street medic treatments: we don't know what the cops sprayed/shot at us. we have to treat every exposure as if it is an unknown substance, because it is. riot control agents can be either alkaline or acidic. both will burn you. clean water and saline only, and also using a blow dryer or leaf blower or fan on yourself will help (but only outdoors/in a VERY ventilated area) because most of the irritants are actually PARTICULATE that is either free-floating, or being carried in some sort of binder or resin. either way, blowing it off your skin is a good treatment. water will temporarily activate it and make it worse but will also get it off you.
it's important to rinse the eyes of people who get tear gas/pepper spray in their eyes because the little granules will stick to your corneas and cause scratches. they can cause keratitis, infection and blindness if the scratches and burns are bad enough. eyes should be the first priority for treating riot chemical exposure.
no baking soda, no lemon juice, no vinegar, no anything. just water and saline in the eyes.

Freshwater sharks are a popular species for aquarium enthusiasts due to their unique appearance and active swimming behavior. These torpedo-shaped fish have high dorsal fins and can add a "shark-like" look to any tank. Care for freshwater sharks aquarium requires intermediate experience, as they can be semi-aggressive and require specific water temperature and pH level. Suitable tank mates include similar-sized cichlids, loaches, and gouramis. With proper care, freshwater sharks can make a stunning addition to any aquarium. Mystery snails are another popular species for freshwater aquariums. These snails are known for their stunning colors and practical benefits. They work hard to clean algae off of glass, plants, and other surfaces in the tank, making them a valuable addition to any aquatic ecosystem. Mystery snails are easy to care for, with a peaceful temperament and a willingness to eat detritus and algae. They can also coexist peacefully with other tank mates, such as bettas. With their brown-colored shells and vibrant colors, mystery snails can add both beauty and functionality to any aquarium. Colorful freshwater fish, dojo loach are a popular choice for aquarium enthusiasts, with a wide variety of species available. These fish can add a flash of color and movement to any tank, with types ranging from neon tetras to bettas. Care for colorful freshwater fish varies by species, but generally requires attention to water temperature, pH, and tank size. Some popular species include rainbow fish, guppies, and angelfish. With proper care and attention, these fish can thrive in a freshwater aquarium and provide endless entertainment for their owners. Note: It's important to note that while these species are popular and can make great additions to an aquarium, it's crucial to research and understand their specific care requirements before introducing them to a tank. This ensures the health and well-being of both the fish and their aquatic environment.

Writing Notes: Wine-Tasting
for your wine-tasting scenes
Enhance your wine-tasting experience and better identify different wines with these tips:
Cleanse your palate between sips. When tasting for flavors of the wine, you must cleanse your palate by using a spittoon and drinking water. “I regularly cleanse my palate with water. I like to use high-pH water, eight or above . . . . I find that alkaline solution of water cleanses my palate much better and reduces the acid in many wines,” James Suckling, a wine critic, says. “I also might have some bread, or olives are great with red wine. You want things that refresh your palate.” Cleansing your palate helps your taste buds enjoy more subtle flavors.
Do a blind tasting. “When I was starting as a taster in the ’80s, when I studied to be a master of wine, I was always blind tasting,” James says. Tasting blind means not knowing the kind of wine you are tasting—be it a zinfandel, rosé, pinot grigio, or syrah—so that will not influence your tasting. Moreover, tasting blind means not looking at the label; sometimes, a label plays up the fruit flavors or connotes an older wine, which can impact your interpretation of the varietal while tasting.
Get the wines to the right temperature to rate. Temperature is critical for wine tasting. “I think it’s important for whites to be between fourteen and sixteen degrees centigrade—not too cold but cold enough to be fresh. If it’s too cold, I’m not going to be able to discern the aromas, taste, and texture,” James says. “The reds I also like a little bit cooler than normal. A lot of people serve their reds at twenty-two or room temperature. I like them around nineteen or twenty.” Using wine glasses with a stem is essential, so you can adequately hold the glass without warming the wine.
Pay attention to scent. Articulating scent is an essential tasting skill. In trying one wine during a blind tasting, James notes “some warmth. Aromas of lemon curd, maybe some fresh basil. And I get a sensation of ash. Like, ash from volcanoes; there’s a number of white wines made in Italy that are coming from volcanic soils such as Etna in Sicily, Campania near Naples, and Soave near Verona.” Quality wines give you primary and secondary aromas, sometimes even tertiary ones. Breathe in your wine with your lips slightly parted to anticipate a wine’s flavor and notes. Take a small sip of wine and see if you sense wooden notes from oak barrels, high acid from citrus fruits, or sweetness from red fruits or tropical fruits.
Swirl your glass of wine. Getting your wine to move around enlivens its scent. “When you’re tasting, it’s really important to swirl the wine to get some air in there to bring out the wine aromas,” James says. “Also, it’s important not to have too much wine in the glass. I like to have about thirty or fifty milliliters in the glass. Then you can really give it a good swirl.” After swirling, note the viscosity and the tannins, the sediment along the bottom or sides of the glass. Use a new wine glass for each new bottle of wine in a blind tasting.
Taste in a clear space. Sometimes, you might taste wine in the cool climate of winemakers’ cellars or a busy room full of people as part of a wine club. To concentrate on the wine’s color and qualities, try to taste the wine in a well-lit, not-too-noisy tasting room. Light is essential when applying the [wine point] scale to red, orange, or white wines. “It’s important that the environment’s clean [and] well-lit,” James says. “I can concentrate on the wines. Sometimes that’s not possible if I’m in a cellar, traveling at dinner, or in a restaurant. But ideally, when I’m tasting, especially blind, it’s important to have a place where I can concentrate.”
Use the wine point system. Following the 100-point wine system can help you determine a good wine. The 100-point system is a rating scale for wine quality. Wine scores go up to 100 points, with 100 points going to the best wines. Whether you’re trying a dessert wine or a dry wine, this scoring system helps you better break down and comprehend the quality of a wine. “I think it’s an easy way to communicate about wine,” James says. “It's an easy way for you to understand quality.”

072. Doubt (part 3/5)
♡ Pairing - Vash x Reader
♡ Word count - 1k
♡ Warnings - none
♡ Description: Vash has some doubts. Luckily, Luida is there to talk through them.
Part of the 150 Bullets drabble series on AO3
Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Part 5
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/0aa2e9f04ce1fd6b51bb269521784008/c8c5d471757404bb-1e/s540x810/a98439b037994d2c660e060ce4eed7764ef7dc66.jpg)
“Why haven’t you?”
Vash flinches, even though Luida’s tone is nothing but curious.
The small greenhouse room on Home is like most places within it – white, with dents and welds on the walls from repairing the Fall damage and time making its way through. Vines, though, creep out of plant troughs set up on counters throughout. They’re filled with hardy vegetables and desert-like flora. One of the many experiments Luida has put on over the years.
“Are you scared?” She prompts.
“No!” He says, petulant. He pouts when Luida laughs and rolls her eyes.
Picking up a watering can to the side, Vash sighs and heads for the sink. “I’m not scared.” He reiterates.
Even he can hear the doubt in his voice.
Luida turns back to her task. “They why can’t you even pull the box out? I’d think you’d be itching to look at it, at least.”
He is. He wants to see what’s inside The Box so badly. It’s been long enough. But… “With my luck, I’d drop it down a crevasse or someone comes by and snatches it.” He purses his lips, turning the sink on and filling the watering can. “Or it just blows up in my hands. Hell, it’d be my luck.”
She hums, digging a finger through the dirt to check on the roots of a plant. “You sure that’s all? You don’t usually mind being blown up. You have the scars for it.”
He puffs out a laugh. She’s right there. Vash picks the watering can up and starts for one of the troughs.
Luida glances over. “Remember, only a few seconds of water for that trough.” When Vash nods, she goes back to her work. “Something’s still holding you back from popping the question, Vash. Do you think she’ll leave you?”
“No,” he sighs, “she wouldn’t. She’s made that clear.”
“Then you don’t think she’s the one for you?”
“No! I mean, yes?” He shakes his head. “She is the one for me. The only one.”
She hums again. “If she isn’t going to leave, and you believe she’s your true love, then what’s holding you back?”
Vash pauses watering one of the plants. “I…” he hesitates, reaching up and scratching his undercut. “I’m not…”
Luida moves on to the next batch of seedlings, watering them in their troughs and checking their pH levels. When he doesn’t finish his sentence, she looks over at him. Her brows raise.
He spits it out. “I don’t think I’m husband material.”
Surprisingly, she lets out a laugh. “Is that all?”
“What do you mean?” He feels a bit indignant, being laughed at. “That seems like a pretty big part of marriage.”
Luida sets her own watering can to the side, the soft thunk absorbing into the walls. “You’re overthinking things again. Like you usually do.”
His cheeks go pink, but he looks down and away. Luida walks over to him, grabbing his metal hand and holding it. Her smile is kind when she asks, “What do you think makes a good husband?”
He sighs. “Someone who can actually provide a home for his wife. And pay for food instead of letting her go hungry for three days.” He shakes his head. “We barely ever have a bed to sleep in because of me being on the run so much.”
Her lips twitch up. She has a few more wrinkles around her eyes nowadays. When was her last Sleep? “Those are material things, Vash. Not everything that makes a husband.”
Vash turns and leans against the table. “But they’re important things! She should feel comfortable, and not have to worry about if she’s going to find me dead in a ditch someday.” He bites his bottom lip, gnawing as he finally lets out his thoughts. “And I’m not…it’s not easy being with me, I know. I still hide things and make stupid mistakes and put us both in danger every day!” His eyes take on a faraway look. “It might be better for me to just keep my mouth shut and throw the stupid box away. It was a dumb idea.”
“Vash…” Luida reaches up and tugs at his hair. “Looks like we need another haircut for you soon.” When he lets out a chuckle, she squeezes his hand. “You should consider what she wants, not what you think she does. How many years have you two been together now?”
It’s a rhetorical question, but he answers it anyway. “Almost forty years.”
“And has she ever once held it against you that you don’t have any of those things?”
“No, but – “
“I know, I know. You want to care for her. But maybe you do. Maybe she has different needs than most people, and you meet them. She’s a smart girl. Smarter than most, I’d say. You really think she’d stick around if she thought she was doing something stupid, being with you?”
His lips twitch up. “Sometimes I wonder…”
She shrugs. “Love makes people do dumb things, that’s true. But she’d have seen through the stupid by now.” She leans closer, trying to get her point across. “Vash, she’s sticking around because she loves you, and you love her, and you’re both doing it right. For goodness sakes, it’s strange to even see you here without her glued to your side, and she’s just on the other side of the ship.”
Vash laughs. The peanut butter to my jelly, as you like to say. There’s really only one reason you’ve stuck around this long. It’s what makes him so giddy and nervous at the same time.
“There’s that smile,” Luida nicks Vash’s chin and grins. “I know you’re still gonna take some time to get it through all that hair of yours, Vash, but really think about her, and what you both want. That’s what will make you husband material. Alright?”
She parts from him, going back to her watering can and picking it up. As she starts going down the rows again, he hears your quick footsteps coming down the hall. The peanut butter to his jelly, returning to his side.
“Oh, and Vash?” Luida says, “When you do tell her, make sure we get an invite to the wedding.”

Monday Musings: Why are there so many perfectly preserved soft-bodied animals found in the Cambrian?
There are a number of ways to get the perfect preservations needed to fossilize soft parts but none of them are particularly common. On the other hand, most of them require water and there was quite a lot of it 518 million years ago.
Phosphatization occurs when large quantities of phosphate are present, either in sea water or from the tissues of a decaying organism. In some cases, microbes that fed on the tissue control the phosphatization. Many soft tissues are preserved this way in the Burgess Shale. The phosphate comes from the tissue itself and when pH is low and oxygen is absent, it becomes the primary method of fossilization.
Silicification is one of the most common ways to fossilize something because silicates is the most common rock forming minerals in the crust. Silica often replaces other minerals that have dissolved out such as calcite shells. This is usually seen to preserve things like trilobites. It doesn't often fossilize soft tissue.
Another form of preservation found at least in the Burgess Shale is carbonaceous film. This occurs when something is buried under several layers of sediment and diagenetically altered (in this case by heat and pressure brought on by compaction) and the animal lacks a hard skeleton or shell.
When we look at quarry locations on a paleo map,
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/916483d31effe8fafd036e00d22e269a/94df60184a5dba33-53/s540x810/698a35183b6ee284913dc9a4c7443b33c2ca9d12.jpg)
and examine the rocks, we see that they lived and died in the right place at the right time (if the taphonomic and preservation bias don't lead us astray).
The Burgess Shale beds were deposited at the base of a cliff of calcareous reefs below the depth agitated by waves during storms. The most widely accepted hypothesis for burial is that part if the reef became detached, slumped and transported rock and debris several kilometers and quickly burying anything in its path.
On the other hand, the Maotianshan Shale was probably buried periodically under turbidity currents, basically an underwater mass wasting event. This is why we don't build our homes on old landslide deposits kids.
The Sirius Passet lagerstatte of Greenland was yet a different environment close to the boundary of an oxygen minimum zone according to geochemical analysis. It is thought that the original preservation was phosphatization that was later altered to silica by low grade metamorphism during the Devonian Period mountain-building events.
Finally, we have the Sinsk Biota of Siberia which inhabited an open marine basin where storms created back currents that sent many animals off into the oxygen depleted depths below. Anoxic conditions prevent growth of microbes that would normally decay flesh allowing soft tissues to preserve.
Now, it is also important to note that oftentimes, parts labeled soft tissue are not necessarily as soft as you believe. Take keratin for example which makes up nails, hair, feathers and sheaths over horns. It's not really that soft in some cases but it is softer than bone which makes it harder to preserve.
Whether we mean keratin or chitin (a natural polymer used to strengthen fungi and invertebrates) or internal organs which really are soft tissues, the Cambrian lagerstatten really are something else.

Northern & Southern European Dyes Palette(s)
It's been almost exactly two years since I made my Iron Age Palette. To celebrate that anniversary... No, you know what, actually not, it's a total coincidence 😅 I was working on a new thing and started wondering about this and that; to not bore you with the details, let's just say that one thing let to another and of course I ended up revisiting the very basics. So here it is! Not one, but TWO new colour palettes for our oldtime-y sims. Based on the lives of my Britons at some point in 1st century CE, shortly before the Roman conquest.
An important note: the southern palette is actually rather an add-on than a separate palette. As in, Romans would surely have access to the dyes from the northern palette as well. But as stated above, I made this whole thing from the viewpoint of a British Celt, hence we have two palettes: one with dyes which he could just obtain from native plants and the other with those he'd have to import. The southerners were more blessed in this aspect :]
You can download PDF files for both of those palettes and .txt files to be used in Paint.net (put them in Documents\paint.net User Files\Palettes). If anyone wants to help me out and make them useable in Photoshop too, please go ahead!
DOWNLOAD them on my Patreon! (always free, no early access etc.)
Apart from a bunch of visual changes (maybe the font will actually be readable this time? Gasp!), there's some new stuff in the palettes themselves (duh). Let's take a quick look, shall we?
undyed wool - hard to call it a dye, lol, but ofc it had to be here. The so-called primitive sheep of the Brittonic era looked quite different from what we imagine when we think 'sheep', and they most certainly came not only in white, but also in many shades of brown or even black. Perfect for making a colourful garment even without any dyes;
birch leaves - easy to obtain, easy to dye; almost no changes here, other than one added shade which used to be under 'mixed ingredients' before;
birch bark - OK, I don't remember where I took the old colours from, but I'm afraid I was being too optimistic. Birch bark gives rather pinkish than reddish shades; actually, it needs a looooooong soak and proper pH to turn anything but very bright, subtle pink. But it seems you can get them and they don't wash out that easily, so - there you go;
elderberry - here I was for sure being too optimistic, especially with that one pretty, saturated blue shade which got thrown away. From what I've read (and seen in photos...), elderberry is a very tricky dye, not particularly water- and lightfast. 'Not particularly' is mildly put - it just washes out in no time, leaving you either with a very pale or very greyish shade of the once vibrant colour. Adjusted accordingly (and they're still too pretty tbh);
apple leaves/twigs - that's a bit of a tricky point, because the Internet claims it was only Romans who brought apples to Britain. But at the same time apple cider was Britain's national drink allegedly already during the Celtic times. Heck, Welsh mythical island of Avalon literally means 'isle of apples', and mythology tends to be... you know... old. Huh? After a bit of research on the topic I'm inclined to believe that what Romans really brought with them were big, sweet apples and their organised cultivation; but small, tart, 'untasty' varieties did exist in Britain even before, growing in the wild. Perfect for making cider - or dyes 😉;
nettle - no changes here. Easy, cheap, grows everywhere, just that the colours are probably not something you'd wear to a party;
hedge bedstraw - seems it's growing everywhere in Britain, so it's plausible the ancients would've made use of it;
lichen - aaaaalriiight, now, that is a big discovery! Beautiful shades and absolutely possible to obtain from the varieties growing on the British Isles. One of the most crucial omissions from my old palette, here finally in its full glory.
That was it for the northern palette. And the southern? Glad you asked:
weld - previously called 'dyer's rocket', but no one in the whole wide natural dyeing Internet calls it that. Beautiful, vibrant, very steady yellow; won't give away even if you overdye it with indigo or woad. It's native to the Mediterranean and while it was cultivated in Britain in later centuries, I have no reason to believe that was also the case in 1 c. CE. I dub it imported;
madder - I keep reading that it's giving saturated red shades, but I have yet to see anyone dye a skein of yarn deep red with madder only. All that keeps popping up in pictures are gentle, pinkish reds, so that's what I included in my palette too. The orange comes from changed pH of the water;
woad - OK, that's my most epic fail of all. To make a Celtic palette and not include woad?! Putting aside the whole matter of Britons possibly maybe but actually maybe not using it to paint their faces (a very controversial matter, let's not go there 😅), woad was the blue dye in those times. Indigo was far away and while it was being imported to Rome, afaik it was used mostly for painting, not cloth dyeing; and besides, as crazy as it may sound, woad seems to do the job better. Seriously. Higher water and light fastness. The question is, was it cultivated in Britain or imported? Just like weld, it's native to the Mediterraean. There is a British find of a bunch of woad seeds, from 1 c. BCE - but then again, it's just one find. So... Mostly imported but slowly being introduced to the Isles? Maybe?
mixed ingredients - the ingredients specified in the PDFs are given in the order they're used - that makes a difference! My biggest discovery of this whole natural dyeing research is that, surprisingly, vibrant green is the absolutely most difficult colour to obtain. That dark green you see at the bottom - so-called Lincoln green - requires super high levels of both weld and woad, and you must put your yellow skein in the blue dye asap - if you're too slow, you get a lighter shade, e.g. like the one above it. The Hightowers surely knew how to show they're rich, huh...?
and last but not least, the luxury dyes! Some imported from far away (turmeric), some from nearby lands (Tyrian purple), some even grown locally (there were saffron plantations on Sicily. True story), but nevertheless, all super duper expensive. Tyrian purple was actually legally reserved for the emperor only - even if you could, by some miracle, afford it, you'd probably get arrested if you dared to dress in that particular shade of purple. Good that lichens could always come to the rescue!
Guess that's enough of behind-the-scenes trivia, isn't it? Props to you if you managed to get to this point, lol. Have fun with the palettes and happy recolouring!

I have a bit of a unique perspective on Luke if anyone's interested. I think he's one of those people who adapt to any environment they're in, which is great if you're an actor, but in your personal life you can just drift, going along with whatever the stronger personalities in your life are doing.
If anyone has observed male friendships closely, they might notice that they're very different from female ones - they're more surface level and more focused on not disrupting the status quo in the group. Where women will cheer each other on when one succeeds, men will unspokenly hold each other back (I'm not saying there isn't jealousy or toxicity in female friendships, it's just that it rises to the surface and either gets addressed or explodes the friendship).
I witnessed this dynamic in particular at uni, where guys who were suddenly doing very well in their studies because they'd found their niche felt the need to conform to wherever their buddies were at, especially if it was an established, long-time friend group from childhood or school. They'd go home over the holidays and come back a different person, like it was shameful to do well at something, especially if the guy in question wasn't the "alpha" of the group. Many guys who had potential to do well in our more academic field but moved back home post-uni ended up taking jobs that were beneath their ability because that was what their friends were doing or what was considered "cool" where they were from (think bartending, club promoting, etc.). I think this is precisely what Luke is trying to navigate with respect to his own friend group and why we're all so confused by his behavior.
Now, he has referred multiple times to how important friends are to him, how some have been there for him during hard times and how he's generous with them. He has always been a good looking guy, while maybe not everyone's cup of tea, and his styling on the show in S1&2 wasn't doing him any favors if we're being honest, and it's undeniable that he underwent a major transformation for S3. All of a sudden, he got this veritable onslaught of female attention and thirst that I'm assuming he hadn't experienced the likes of before. And this coupled with the season's success changed his status within the group and in the world at large. This is where the tension starts. He's trying to adapt to his new reality while everyone around him is expecting him to stay the same, not act like he's "better than them" now, even though he might be. In this situation, he has two options - to hold himself back and default to the proverbial average of the 5 people closest to him, or do a balancing act of "a rising tide lifts all boats" type of deal by sharing the fruits of his success with the group. I think that being the loving guy he is, he's caught in this liminal space of trying to find his personal footing while doing "right" by everyone around him. These are choppy waters for anyone to navigate, especially as his friends are themselves experiencing ups and downs and the collective context is ever-changing.
Do I think him dating someone like A is a choice that he thinks someone in his newfound position would make? Yes. Do I think she's probably a very nice girl and they're having a good time together? Sure. Do I think she's on his level? No. Do I think she'll be old news if he (or she) gets slammed with work? Most likely. It's ultimately their respective availability that's holding that relationship together. Well, that and the light ego stroke of dating a woman who looks a certain way - it's how he's projecting his new "league" out into the world. But also, if they were indeed introduced by a friend, he might perceive her as "approved" by those around him and thus not disruptive of the delicate pH balance of the group. I don't know anything about his friends and who they are or aren't dating, but rest assured that if the most dominant among them were to hit a life milestone like getting engaged or married, the rest of them would follow suit in quick succession so as not to disrupt group cohesion or their collective lifestyle, regardless of whether the person they happen to be with at the time is "the one". I've seen this play out so many times that it's a bit of a cliche.
Conversely, if one of them starts dating someone, let's say, of "higher status", we'd probably see that reflected across the friend group as well. All this is to say, I don't think A is end game and he knows it too, he's been straining to acknowledge her so as not to lose her but at the same time, I think deep down he knows she's just Ms. Right Now so he's not leaning into this as hard as he was with J. I think he's still subconsciously shopping around for the future Mrs. Newton but he's a relationship kind of guy and he's trying to ride this one out for as long as it'll hold. I think that if a semi-famous woman at a similar level of recognition as him showed an interest in him, A would become old news fast, especially if he manages to mentally integrate the changes that have happened in this life over time. I think she's a buffer for his anxiety to a large extent, which is why he takes her with him everywhere. Once he settles into more of a groove, we might start seeing a more recognizable version of him.
Just my two cents.
This is very well thought out and while this is all speculation, all of it is plausible! Who am I to say what is fact or fiction?
