Petfood-Score ABCDE: Why We Can't Rate Our Pet's Kibble
What is the ABCDE Petfood-Score by Pacta Petfood for? Is an ABCDE Petfood-Score reliable?
When we want to compare kibble and canned food, we sometimes look for comparative tables or rankings. However, these often come with scores that are not reliable.
If you read that kibble has been "scored A," it is important to understand that Pacta Petfood's Petfood-Score does not rate your kibble.
What would an ABCDE Petfood-Score be used for? It is not possible to rate a brand of kibble, but you can choose your own rating criteria. You will find useful information on the Petfood Advisor website.
The ABCDE Petfood-Score by Pacta Petfood
Introduction to the ABCDE Petfood-Score by Pacta
An ABCDE Petfood-Score, which assigns a grade to dog kibble based on several criteria, would indeed offer several potential benefits for dog owners, pet product manufacturers, and the dogs themselves:
Clear information for dog owners:
Ease of choice: A clear and easy-to-understand score (A, B, C, D, E) allows dog owners to quickly choose high-quality kibble for their pets.
Transparency: The scoring system can provide transparent information about the nutritional quality of the kibble, enabling dog owners to make informed decisions. Unfortunately, many Petfood scores come from comparative tables of kibble and canned food based on carbohydrate levels, which is not serious.
Improvement in dog health:
Optimal nutrition: A scoring system would help owners identify kibble that meets their dog's specific nutritional needs, contributing to long-term health.
Reduction of health issues: By choosing higher-rated kibble, owners can reduce the risk of health problems related to poor nutrition, such as obesity, food allergies, and gastrointestinal disorders. But as you can see on Petfood Advisor groups and forums, a valid ABCDE Petfood-Score cannot be created: each animal has its own needs.
Promotion of quality improvement:
Pressure on manufacturers: Dog kibble manufacturers would be incentivized to improve the quality of their products to achieve higher scores, benefiting the entire industry by promoting higher standards.
Nutritional innovation: Companies would be encouraged to innovate to create healthier and more balanced products that meet the nutritional needs of dogs. To produce a reliable Petfood-Score, evaluation criteria should be recognized by professionals, such as veterinarians.
Building consumer trust:
Increased confidence: Dog owners can have more confidence in their choice of kibble based on an objective rating system.
Reduction of confusion: Dog owners are often overwhelmed by the multitude of kibble options available. A rating system simplifies the selection process by reducing confusion. We can see that brands that promote an unrecognized ABCDE Petfood-Score deceive consumers because there is no kibble nutriscore.
Encouraging sustainable feeding:
Promoting eco-responsibility: An ABCDE Petfood-Score could also take into account the environmental impact of dog kibble, encouraging owners to choose more sustainable options.
Promoting research in canine nutrition:
Stimulating research: Manufacturers would be encouraged to invest more in canine nutrition research to improve their products and obtain higher scores.
The limitations of an ABCDE Petfood-Score
However, for this rating system to be effective, it should be based on solid and transparent nutritional criteria, regularly updated to reflect the latest scientific advances, and independent of the industry to avoid conflicts of interest.
The ABCDE Petfood-Score is an information evaluation system.
Furthermore, it is important to recognize that the nutritional needs of dogs can vary depending on their age, size, activity level, and individual health issues, which should be taken into account when evaluating kibble.
Like the Vigiscore, the ABCDE Petfood-Score or 123456 should be a method for evaluating the quality of information shared in Petfood. Ask your questions on the Petfood Advisor YouTube channels.

I am starting college just now and looking at the kind of jobs I want to decide about major and classes to take to get there. Just wanted to share these opportunities for STEM rfs who can get them right now - for example, wildtypefoods dot com /careers - I think lab grown meat/seafood/petfood companies are going to take OFF in the next decade and is a good bet for a benchwork job among others. I want more women in stem to get the good pickings. so sending to stem fems. my example is in the united states but i would hope there are similar places to find in Russia if it applies to your degree (there seems to be a lot of different types of jobs involved)
Thank you for the suggestion! But I major in optical devices. I originally wanted to major in this because I've seen it has a lot of potential in ecology. But I forgot to change the priority and now I have a slightly different one (they include "defensive" tech and civil tech). A lot of classes are the same (especially the 1-4 semesters which have all of the same classes), and I still can change my major now, but I'm conflicted a bit. Like I can get necessary qualifications for the more peaceful job after I finish my program, but I won't be able to do the same for the current one if I change majors. My major is niche BUT needs more engineers (the defensive and civil tech), but I guess the eco- one is more like... volunteering besides being even more niche? I hope not. Anyway, there are actually not many people applying to these two majors and most of them do it just for the prestige of having studies at THIS uni. And in Moscow there are like only 2? unis which offer this major, and in total they take about 110 students of this major a year. So. The employers NEED more workes, but at least in my uni, the total of the ones who actually get through the 6 years is about 20 per year or less. Considering that factories can send 34 contract students a year to my uni where in total there's like 80 students a year are taken in we can see the high demand for workers (Idk for the other uni). So it's not competitive yet. So yeah from all perspectives it's a good job and if the situation in other countries is the same you should look into it if you find biology and chemistry more challenging than physics and math, like I do. It has the potential for a lot of things, one of which is detecting oil on the Earth surface (the wasted oil) and other types of waste. Also LASERS FOR MEDICINE. It's interesting and useful.

The expansion of the pet food market is largely driven by the rising number of D2C pet brands & start-ups, as well as owners’ willingness to pay for premium pet food products. The rise in people’s disposable income has enabled them to splurge on premium food. This is also supported by the fact that many owners do not consider spending on pets as a luxury expense and consider them as part of their family.
Also, with the growing awareness, pet owners are finally beginning to understand how their pets’ dietary habits affect their health. Many a time, the nutrition information provided by pet food manufacturers on their product labels may be deceptive. Besides, several pet foods available in the market today contain substances like carbs, sugar, and yeast, which can cause weight gain. Factors such as these affect the pet food market’s growth prospects.
The market in the Asia-Pacific is estimated to grow at the fastest rate globally, over the forecasted period. The regional market is expected to witness strong growth, benefiting from the rise in the pet population and consumers’ increasing focus on pet welfare.
Leading names operating in the pet food market include Nestle Purina Petcare, Diamond Pet Foods, Blue Buffalo Pet Products Inc, Hill’s Pet Nutrition Inc, Champion Petfoods LP, Farmina Pet Foods, Unicharm Corporation, Mars Petcare Ltd, Inaba Foods Co Ltd, and Wellness Pet Company.
The level of industry rivalry is high in the studied market. Established players, such as Nestle Purina Petcare, Mars Petcare Ltd, and Hill’s Pet Nutrition Inc, account for the lion’s share of the market. However, competitors have an advantage due to pricing and novel ingredients. These leading companies have expanded their product lines and increased their emphasis on R&D, which has helped them strengthen their market position. Moreover, several market giants have specialized and improved the scope of their product ranges by acquiring businesses already existing in these areas.
