Cone Calorimeter: Function and Uses

Cone calorimeters analyse compressed samples for calorific value. It's used in fire-prevention engineering. Huggett's theory indicates the quantity of oxygen required to burn any organic substance is equal to its gross heat of combustion. It can also measure heat output like a thermometer.

Oxygen consumption calorimetry measures how quickly a fire creates heat, which helps study and obey regulations. The heat release rate has transformed how engineers think about fire protection. Moreover, the tools may adjust the sample's surface temperature. A cone-shaped radiant heater heats the test sample evenly, thus the name.

A number of pioneers in the field of oxygen consumption calorimetry include Peter Hinkley, William Christian, Thomas Waterman, Darryl Sensenig, Ralph Krause, Richard Gann, VytoBabrauskas, Gunnar Heskestad, Norm Alvares, Donald Beason, and Brady Williamson. Fire Testing Technology Limited (FTT) of the United Kingdom is presently the largest manufacturer of cone calorimeters in the world.

What is its common usage?

Investigations have previously used a variety of different tools. Before the invention of the cone calorimeter, they were all known to be of exceedingly low quality and to cause several problems. However, the development of the cone calorimeter in 1982 facilitated study. "The cone calorimeter was the first instrument to detect smoke visually and soot yield gravimetrically. Layout changes have made the gadget easier to operate and enhanced its accuracy. Over time, it has become one of the most vital research instruments for preventing fires via testing.

Like a toaster or oven, the cone-shaped Inconel heating element directs a precise quantity of radiant flux toward the sample. The heater, in the form of a cone, is hollow in the centre to allow smoke and other combustion byproducts to exit via an exhaust.

Day 5:

I’ve worked at the “New and Improved” Freddy Fazbear’s for about a week, and from what I can tell, it couldn’t have a more inaccurate name. The place is filthy! There are moldy cracks in the walls, spiderwebs in the corners, I even saw a rat once. Plus, the entire place is covered in germs! I have to carry around emergency hand sanitizer whenever I go inside!

Thankfully, I don’t always have to go in the building. I’m a security guard, but I guard the outside. My co-worker, Peter, guards the inside. At least he has a room of his own, able to sit back, relax, and watch the cameras. Due to budget cuts, the owner couldn’t afford to put security cameras on the outside. That’s why he needs me.

My job is to walk around outside for a few hours at night to make sure the place doesn’t get broken into. I’ve made a pattern for myself. I take the same path every night, checking every corner of the building and then returning to the front so I can rest before walking around again.

But every night, I hear screaming and cursing, followed by crashing and then more cursing coming from inside. The first time it happened, I thought it was a burglar. I ran inside and flipped on the lights, only to see Peter sitting quietly on the stage. I looked around, but I didn’t see anyone and there were no signs that anything had been broken. I asked him what happened, but he just stared at me for an uncomfortably long amount of time before lighting a cigarette (or was it a whole pack…?) and walking away.

Peter is…strange… I haven’t met him officially, but I’ve crossed paths with him a few times when leaving or entering work. If I’m being honest, he kind of creeps me out. He’s always talking to himself when he thinks no one is listening, and he always looks like he’s never slept a day in his life. Every time I’m around him I feel uneasy.

In this town, people talk. The things I’ve heard about Peter are questionable and honestly, I’d rather not get involved in his life any more than I have to. It’s like we have a silent agreement; I leave him alone and he leaves me alone. We don’t talk to each other unless it’s absolutely necessary.

As first jobs go, this has to be one of the strangest… Sometimes I wish I had never seen that ad in the paper…

TV: The Alienist (primera temporada, 2018)

Pocos temas resultan más desgarradores, así en la vida como en el arte, que aquellos relacionados con la violencia de toda clase hacia niños y adolescentes. Y, entre ellos, sobresale con demoledor impacto lo concerniente a las atrocidades de índole sexual que se cometen contra ellos sin contemplaciones de ningún tipo.

En la Nueva York de 1986 se desencadena una serie de horrorosos crímenes cuyas víctimas son niños y adolescentes pobres que se prostituyen. El comisario Theodore Roosevelt (a quien la historia le tendría reservado un lugar como Presidente de los Estados Unidos) toma la compleja tarea de descubrir y detener a tan infame monstruo y designa como investigador al Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Daniel Brühl), el alienista (una especie de psicólogo) en cuestión. Kreizler forma equipo con el ilustrador John Moore (Luke Evans), Sara Howard (Dakota Fanning), secretaria de Roosevelt (Brian Geraghty) y primera mujer en el departamento de policía neoyorquino, y el adolescente Stevie Taggert (Matt Lintz).

La intensa y fascinante serie (que se basa en las novelas de Caleb Carr y recibió una segunda temporada en el 2020 debido a la grata impresión que dejó la primera) da a entender, de boca del familiar de una víctima, (Giorgio, alias Gloria) que algunos de esos chicos “eran raros”, insinuando que ya desde esa corta edad eran afeminados, gustaban vestirse de mujer o sentían atracción por alguien del mismo sexo.

Disney Movies List

Ok first of all I want to make clear that english is not my first language. I therefore apologize in advance for any grammar or spelling mistakes. Please don't be too strict with me =D

I recently bought Disney+ and I plan now to watch and review every movie, Disney has ever produced or participated in it. And I tell you, this will be a hell of a trip, because my list now contains no fewer than 701 movies. That means if I watch at least one movie every day, it will take me about 2 years to see all of them. And since I will most likely not watch a movie every day, I will definitely need at least twice as long....

For the films on my list, which I marked with a cross at the end, it means that I have seen them already. However, since I last saw most of these movies in my childhood or teenage years (so at least 15 years ago), it will be interesting for me to rewatch them after such a long time. I have probably already forgotten most of the plots.

I also plan to watch them in chronological order and rank them. The movies that I don't find on Disney+ I will watch somewhere else.

"Masada" de Ernest K. Gann. Otro libro obtenido del círculo de lectores. Recuerdo que hubo una producción cinematográfica protagonizada donde intervino Kabir Bedi, pero de la cual no he encontrado rastro alguno por internet, estoy seguro porque yo vi la publicidad de la misma por televisión nacional, donde la imagen inconfundible de ese actor se mostraba, mucho antes de la miniserie protagonizada por Barbara Carrera, Peter O'tool y Peter Strauss, la cual llegué a disfrutar por televisión nacional (quien sabe que fue lo que yo ví, pero la memoria no me falla al respecto). Por supuesto, la miniserie nada que ver con el libro, el cual tenía sus temas algo fuertes (al menos para ese momento) que exponía cosas que no se veían en la producción televisiva. El libro casi que fue un poco visceral en al forma en que exponía muchos eventos, pero eso no lo hizo menos interesantes.
