hello my good friend mx surge! what kind of music do you like/prefer, genre-wise? got any favorite songs? and then can i get some favorite lyrics? smile! and. tell me what characters/stuff the lyrics make you think of if you'd like to go that far! doesn't have to be any characters I'd know about or even any at all. i am Curious <- all /nf! do as much as you like. i love asking questions and hearing your thoughts 🫡🫡 —marley
hello my wonderful friend marley! eeee I love talking about music. this is gonna be a long one
(disclaimer: I am admittedly Very Bad at genres, so I'm gonna give you artists and maybe you can decide for yourself what genres they are)
AJR is a big one, I could talk for days about AJR. they're one of the only bands I've been to a concert for (very very good concert, very fun, very dramatic, highly recommend, they are clearly showmen, not just musicians, and that makes for entertaining shows). I'm unironically following someone on tumblr who posts ONLY AJR stuff because every time I see the name "AJR" it's like a visceral reaction that makes me grin. ooh, also Twenty One Pilots. I love then. looking forward to their new album
I listen to a lot of broadway. some of my favorites are Be More Chill, Mean Girls, Six, and Titanic the Musical, just to name a few. I love seeing live shows especially- I saw Something Rotten not too long ago, and the Nick was BRILLIANT it. was, admittedly, a high school production, but nonetheless. he danced a lot, even unchoreographed dancing in the background, just like, vibing, and it was so obvious that he was just having a good time and enjoyed being there (the actor, that is, not the character) and I just liked watching him
oh, and Sleeping at Last! I first discovered them by their Atlas: Enneagram album, because I'm a nerd and adore personality tests (I'm an INTP and a 5 in case anyone was wondering), but I've been slowly absorbing the rest of their music, and it's all so beautiful
favorite songs... hm. I can't not say "2085," the closer to AJR's most recent album, and perhaps the most emotionally devastating song they have released as of yet (which is really saying something). best lyrics from that song are undoubtedly the last bit, where they say "you gotta get better, you've all that I got," then it gets softer and the lyrics change to "I gotta get better, I'm all that I've got." HEARTBREAKING /pos. I mean, I like that part enough that I wrote a whole fic inspired by it. one of my very few angst fics. "All That I've Got," a Minnesconsin fic (link here if you're curious). by the way, the first song of that album, "Maybe Man," is also a banger, highly recommend
I love "96000" from "In the Heights" (I think it's only in the movie version, not the musical version? not 100% sure though). ooh this song makes me crazy. this song... ok. I can't talk about this song without being a bit weird about it, but stick with me. this song always makes me think of the people on the Titanic. I read a book once with fictionalized versions of a few of the Titanic's officers and crew members, and once I was listening to this song and when it got to Sonny's verse, all I could think about was how exactly it matched fifth officer Harold Lowe's vibes. it's not really the lyrics, but several of the verses just remind me of various crew members' vibes. and it's. it's just a great song
"Air Catcher" by TOP. that's another wonderful song. always makes me think of Iowa to Wisconsin, for no particular reason. best lyric is "I don't believe in talking just to breathe," which is an idea that always appealed to me
Tyler Joseph is a BRILLIANT lyricist, actually. other great lyrics by him:
"our words are loud but now I'm talking action" (Neon Gravestones)
"for us to think is to be alive / and I will try with every rhyme / to come across like I am dying / to let you know you need to try to think" (Car Radio)
"death inspires me like a dog inspires a rabbit" (Heavydirtysoul)
"haunted by a couple big mistakes / she covers all the dents with the way she decorates" (Redecorate)
"like an "I love you" / that isn't words / like a song he wrote that's never heard" (Shy Away)
I love "despair" by leo. always makes me think of florida talking to loui (in a queerplatonic way, of course). another great floui song is "Tightrope" from The Greatest Showman, but I picture this one as loui to florida
holy moly this is even longer than expected. I'll leave you with this for now. you've probably gotten a good grasp of my taste by now haha. thank you sm for the ask, I had a delightful time answering :D
#ajr#twenty one pilots#tyler joseph#musicals#broadway#the maybe man#maybe man#something rotten#in the heights#titanic#harold lowe#wttt florida#wttt louisiana#wttt floui#wttt iowa#wttt wisconsin#marley!!#<- yeah that's right I'm giving you a tag. I'm astonished I haven't done so sooner#ask box

MEET THE TITANIC CREW
Captain Edward Smith:
-> Captain of the Titanic. Has a lot of authority, but also a forgiving nature... which is a good thing, considering the many antics of his crew. Gets tired of them sometimes.
Chief officer Henry Wilde:
-> Chief officer of the Titanic. The most mature and sane one of the group. The other officers can really get on his nerves, especially second officer Charles Lightoller and sixth officer James Moody. Always keeps an eye on them and tries to keep them in check, but fails every time.
First officer William Murdoch:
-> First officer of the Titanic. Nicknamed "Will". Best friends with second officer Charles Lightoller, despite the many pranks and antics of the latter. Secretly has a good sense of humour, but also doubts himself sometimes and can have an existential crisis.
Second officer Charles Lightoller:
-> Second officer of the Titanic. Nicknamed "Lights". The prankster of the group who always gets involved in some kind of trouble (which, in most cases, he accidentally caused himself). Tends to give the captain and chief officer Henry Wilde a headache with his mischievous and cheeky behaviour. Best friend of first officer William Murdoch.
Third officer Herbert Pitman:
-> Third officer of the Titanic. Quietest of the group. Is often a witness to all the antics that happen on board of the ship. Quite innocent, doesn't swear and never really gets involved in any trouble.
Fourth officer Joseph Boxhall:
-> Fourth officer of the Titanic. Good-hearted, basically everyone's friend. Always laughs about the pranks of second officer Charles Lightoller, and sometimes gets dragged along in them as well. Would love to have a girlfriend.
Fifth officer Harold Lowe:
-> Fifth officer of the Titanic. A bit of a lone wolf and "no-bullshit" person. Can come across as stoic, but cares a lot about the people he loves. Good friends with sixth officer James Moody, whom he likes to tease a lot and is also fiercely protective about. Swears a lot and has a fiery temper. Dislikes Bruce Ismay.
Sixth officer James Moody:
-> Sixth officer of the Titanic. The youngest and smallest one of the group. Often joins second officer Charles Lightoller in his many antics. Often creates some kind of trouble, even though he doesn't mean to. He just can be a bit of an airhead and doesn't always think everything through, resulting in him saying or doing something dumb. Likes to stay positive. Good friends with fifth officer Harold Lowe.
First wireless operator Jack Phillips:
-> First wireless operator of the Titanic. An extravert with a good sense of humour. Is secretly in love with his coworker, second wireless operator Harold Bride. Is mainly the one who does te flirting, both knowingly and unknowingly. His real name is actually "John", but everyone always calls him "Jack".
Second wireless operator Harold Bride:
-> Second wireless operator of the Titanic. An introvert who likes to stay in the background. Is secretly in love with his coworker, first wireless operator Jack Phillips, but is often too insecure to make any advances or does so quite clumsily.
Lookout Frederick Fleet:
-> One of the lookouts of the Titanic. Not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed. Often clumsy.
Lookout Reginald Lee:
-> One of the lookouts of the Titanic. Tends to get annoyed by Frederick Fleet's behaviour, but still considers him a good friend and always keeps an eye on him.
Quartermaster George Rowe:
-> One of the quartermasters of the Titanic. A kind man who befriended the not so popular quartermaster Robert Hichens. Ships Jack Phillips and Harold Lowe and often tries to get them together.
Quartermaster Robert Hichens:
-> One of the quartermasters of the Titanic. Always seems grumpy and extremely negative about life in general. Not very well liked by most of the crew, but is secretly protective over his friend and coworker George Rowe. Has a dark sense of humour.
J. Bruce Ismay:
-> Chairman and managing director of the White Star Line. Likes nothing more than talking about the Titanic and his successful career. Can come across as arrogant, but he doesn't seem to notice it. Not as brave as he often wants others to believe.
Thomas Andrews:
-> Master shipbuilder of the Titanic. A sweet, kind and hardworking man who's always willing to help others. Is often seen as the father of the group. Loves working on his blueprints, but often loses track of time while doing so and accidentally works 'till late in the night, causing him to have a lack of sleep.
Others who might be mentioned:
-> Ada Murdoch: wife of first officer William Murdoch
-> Sylvia Lightoller: wife of second officer Charles Lightoller
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*DISCLAIMER*
I don't mean any harm or offence to the real Titanic officers, passengers or other people who were on the ship during that fateful maiden voyage. My interpretation of the officers, wireless operators and other crew is completely fictional and not based on real life. If you want historical information about them, then this isn't the place to be. This page is meant for fun and the hopes of making you laugh about the many antics of the Titanic crew. My inspiration for this came from the many (funny) Titanic officers fanfictions I always used to read in the past.
Be respectful, and together we must make sure that we never forget the victims of the Titanic. Thank you ❤
“ Please tell me the truth. ”
quinn walton for harold lowe !
The eldest of the Junior Officers bristled at her insistence. His Welsh temper always seeming to get the better of him in situations such as this. He was the brash one, after Lightoller he was the one nobody wanted to deal with due to his gruff personality and his way of handling things. While he was polite enough some comments he made offhandedly could turn heads of both Passenger and crew alike. He held a bit of resentment towards Quinn as she shared his title in a way. Fifth JUNIOR Officer. It felt as if sometimes he had a child he had to mind. She had honestly caught him at a rather horrid time after having to separate two drunk passengers from a fight in Third class and getting caught in the crossfire himself. He finally turned to speak with her candidly, a bit TOO candidly. "If'n you wan' my honest opinion of ya here it is..."
His words thick with his Welsh accent, his eyes showing no remorse for what he was about to say.
"I don' think females should be Officers. S' A man's work. We're stronger, faster an' handle stressful situations better. Ya wanted the truth an' ya got it.."
Zawe Ashton Isn’t Here to Be a Victim of Your Projections
The actress was never offered a period piece until “Mr. Malcolm’s List.” She was given 24 hours to decide whether to do it. Now she’s earning raves.
“I haven’t necessarily had the privilege of being cast as the hero,” Zawe Ashton said. “And that’s OK.”
This was on a recent steamy afternoon, and Ashton, 37, a star of the Regency-era romantic comedy “Mr. Malcolm’s List,” had cast herself in the role of a woman eating a hurried lunch at the New York office of a film company before heading to the airport. Low-key glamorous in bare feet, a black slip dress and a sweatshirt that read, “There Are Artists Among Us,” she radiated a particular mix of seriousness, playfulness and a questing intelligence.
While the more gossipy corners of the internet know the London-born Ashton as the fiancée of the actor Tom Hiddleston — they met during a benefit reading of Harold Pinter’s “Betrayal,” which they later performed on Broadway — she has been a professional actor since elementary school and a playwright since her 20s. She has devoted most of her career to playing and writing about outsiders. Julia, a Regency belle, wouldn’t seem to be one of them. Ashton disagrees.
“I think she is,” she said. “There’s something she’s not settling for.”
This probably explains why Ashton infuses Julia with a kind of wildness, a hint of waywardness under and around the sparkle. While the reviews for “Mr. Malcolm’s List” have been mixed, Ashton has earned raves. She dominates, a critic for The Hollywood Reporter wrote, “with her razor-sharp comedic timing ensuring thrilling delivery of her tart lines.”
Next summer she will appear in the Nia DaCosta-directed “The Marvels,” the follow-up to “Captain Marvel.” Reportedly, she will play the villain. And — after Ashton revealed her pregnancy during a recent screening of “Mr. Malcolm’s List” — at least one more debut is anticipated. Sensibly, she does not talk much about her personal life.
Over salad, she discussed period dramas, playing women on the edge and finding truth underneath the corsetry. These are edited excerpts from the conversation.
You look like you’re having so much fun in this movie. Are you?
I really am. We all really are. We filmed it in a very intense wave of lockdown in Dublin. Our only bonding time was on site, doing the work. We weren’t even allowed to go to a pub. So there was this really rewarding element of coming together in group scenes and working off each other and understanding each person’s unique rhythm. That’s where some of the comedy is coming from, certainly where a lot of the flirtatious energy is coming from.
You haven’t done many period pieces. Why this one?
The big conversation that’s happening now around representation in period drama is very, very real. The reality is you can be acting for a long time and not be called to that table. There’s a sort of indifference that turns into mystification that turns into sadness around that. This was the first period piece I’ve ever been offered. I had 24 hours to decide, and then it was sweatpants to corsets.
What can you tell me about Julia?
What I really loved straight off the bat is where we find her, which is coming out into her fifth season in society without having made a match. It has a little tinge of a woman on the edge. She doesn’t want to be a victim of that society, so she rages against the machine. She does some questionable things. But I hope by the end, she has this humbling redemptive moment where she does find a love match with someone who loves her for her flaws, rather than despite her flaws.
What unlocked her character?
One of the first things I had to do was tap into something very truthful and authentic. Freida [Pinto, her co-star] and I had conversations about picking up something that felt more culturally specific to us. That was a real breakthrough. That you can leave the Austenification behind and find something that chimes with your experience. Then we had an amazing historian. She was really helpful with stuff like how you would drink tea, how you would walk through the streets of London with a man that you’re related to or not related to. That led to the physical life and then costume, hair and makeup, stepping into a corset, stuffing into a bonnet.
Over the last decade you haven’t done many comedies. Why do a comedy now?
I joined a very intense movie club during the lockdown. We watched a movie every night and fed back to each other at the end of every Saturday with Sundays off. We went really high and deliberately quite obnoxious — Bergman, Tarkovsky, Rohmer, Bresson. There was a catharsis there, but I definitely have been looking to escape much more through the work I’ve been doing, the people I want to inhabit.
Your next project is “The Marvels.” Was a superhero project another escape?
I was moving away from acting for a lot of the past five years or so. I did “Betrayal” here in New York without representation [an agent], and, at the end of that, I signed up with some people and I said, I don’t necessarily want to start feeding the machine. I would like to just meet with first-time female directors, or fledgling female directors, specifically directors who are coming from underrepresented backgrounds in our industry. Emma Holly Jones, who directed “Mr. Malcolm’s List,” being one of them. I got set up on a call with Nia DaCosta where we really connected. It was just a seeing of souls. And on the other side of it was a phone call asking me to be part of her new job.
Rumor has it you’re playing a villain in that film. Or maybe you’ve complicated the idea of a villain?
I don’t really know any other way of going about it, to be honest. I have to start with something real and emotional and authentic and build out from there. I have to understand the deeper meaning in my head.
I read about your engagement to Tom Hiddleston. Is it true you met doing “Betrayal”? Because the marriage in that play is not a good marriage!
Oftentimes, the most distressing, deep work has the happiest companies. The play was called “Betrayal.” But the play behind the scenes was absolute trust.
Well, I’m still hoping that your marriage works out better. It’s funny, you’ve been in this business for nearly 30 years, but when I Googled you, the top results all had to do with your personal life. What’s it like to experience this kind of scrutiny?
As a woman in this industry, you become quite attuned to your identity as an artist shifting in proximity to different people. That’s not specific to dating someone. If there’s a conversation I would have off the back of this question, it’s really about letting women in this industry know that whatever point of career that you’re in, shore up your identity and reason for being, because people will project onto you in the most intense way. When that happens, you have to have an internal anchor. You have to be delighted and joyful in the work that you do. I’m not here to be a victim of projection. I’m here to continually grow as an artist. (x)
I’ll be by your side - Remus LupinxDaughter
Hi!! Wooow I’m a slow writer XD To be fair though, I am graduating in June, so there’s...quite a lot to do. Anyhow, this is part 3 of my imagine deal? so I’d recommend reading that one and part two first. Remus is my favourite HP character, so this mainly focuses on the relationship between him and his daughter, but I guess it’s slight HarryxOC as well ;)
Deal? (Part 1) | Oh, darling... (Part 2) | I’ll be by your side (Part 3)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please note:
1: I don’t own any of the gifs used, nor any already established characters, so credit to the authors and original creators - You have done a phenomenal job :)
2: English is not my native language, as I was born and raised in Sweden. I have, however, studied English for almost a decade, so I don’t think it’ll be a problem, I just thought I’d let you know ;)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Word count: ≈ 2200
Warnings: Battle of Hogwarts, Angst, Blood, Death :(
Enjoy! :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“But, dad! You can’t go yourself and then expect me not to come along!”
“Yes, Bree, I can, and I will!”
He was desperate to go join the rest of the Order, and searched frantically for his old coat.
“Bu-”
“Darling, listen, this is not your fight, okay? You’re staying with Tonks and Teddy this time, and I’ll-”
She had grabbed his coat and was holding it behind her back, out of her father’s reach.
“DAD!!”
Remus stopped for a moment and took a proper look at his daughter for the first time since receiving the message about the upcoming battle.
“Look, I’m seventeen years old. I’m an adult now, and most of my younger friends are fighting. There’s literally no reason for me not to!”
“There is a perfectly good reason and you know that! Besides, your age is completely irrelevant! It wouldn’t matter if you were fifteen or seventeen, twenty or thirty, I don’t want you fighting!”
His voice was stern, which admittedly wasn’t too uncommon, but it lacked the normal comedic undertone and not even a ghost of a smile could be seen on his face. This did make Breanna feel quite uncomfortable, but she was not giving up. She couldn’t leave everyone else and just sit quietly on the sidelines. Surely he understood that, right?
“Well, I’m sorry, but it’s not your choice to make. I know you don’t like it, but I’m going.”
She gave her father his coat and picked a jumper for herself, but stopped abruptly when approaching the front door. Remus had stepped in front of her, and pulled her into a tight hug.
“Please, darling… I can’t have you injured again - or worse! Stay.”
“Dad, I promised you two years ago that I would pick my fights more wisely. We made a deal. And I am choosing this one.”
“Breanna, it’s not the same! Seeing you hurt back then caused me more pain than you could possibly imagine, but this will be worse. Far worse. An-”
“Don’t you think I know that?” It wasn’t her intention to snap at him, but they didn’t have time for this argument. People were waiting. “I know it’s for real this time, it most definitely was two weeks ago, but I honestly thought you would have more faith in me. I’m not five, okay?!”
“Bree, don-”
She pulled out of his embrace, tied her shoes and apparated. Leaving him in the middle of an argument like that broke her heart. She knew the chances of them both making it out alive were low, unharmed close to none. They did, however, not have a choice. There was no time to waste. Voldemort could be attacking the castle this very moment, and Harry, Dumbledore’s army and the rest of the Order would need all the help they could get…
~~~
Breanna ran down the stairs, desperately searching for any familiar faces, and eventually spotted one she had really longed to see.
“Harry!!”
He turned at the sound of his name and smiled - really smiled - when their eyes met. They weren’t more than a few feet away from each other, and it didn’t take long before they met in the middle.
“Bree! You alright?” They hugged each other tightly and enjoyed the feeling of safety, if only for a few seconds. “What happened to your arm?”
She followed his gaze and found her sleeve torn and shoulder covered in blood. It wasn’t too bad though, she hadn’t even noticed it before Harry pointed it out.
“I-I don’t know, it’s fine. How are you feeling?”
He looked down at her and used a bloodied and scarred hand to push some of her hair behind her ear. He wanted to say “fine”, but it would have been a lie.
“Scared”, he admitted, “But also ready. Let’s finish this, once and for all?”
She nodded. “You’re right! How can I help?”
“Well, some people are trying to evacuate all the younger students through the room of requirement, think you could lend them a hand?”
“Sure! Good luck Harold, see you!”
He shook his head at the nickname, but smiled nonetheless.
“Right, good luck. And Bree?”
“Yeah?”
“Stay alive, will you?”
“I’ll do my best on one condition.”
“Hmm?”
“You do the same”
He gave her a nod before continuing up the stairs.
“And Harry, we don’t have time for the full story, but if you run into my dad, let him know I’m sorry, will you?”
~~~
Sure, Breanna loved Hogwarts, it was her second home, but this was proper chaos! Most of the younger kids were finally safe, but the battle was far from won. There were death eaters everywhere. She stumbled behind suit of armor, narrowly avoiding a flash of red light, and suddenly remembered something her dad had said the other night:
“It is the quality of one's convictions that determines success, not the number of followers”
She knew it was meant to work as motivation, but thinking about it now just made her feel sad. How could she be so stupid? She fought her way through the corridors, but after turning a corner, she found herself facing an empty hallway. A chill went down her spine as the booming voice of Lord Voldemort could be heard all throughout the grounds. He was ordering his followers to back down, hoping to get Harry to come directly to him. Great! Now she had two people to find before it was too late...
~~
Entering the great hall this time felt nothing like it had almost seven years ago. There were people everywhere. Students, teachers, children, former graduates and parents - all in this together, mourning, comforting and healing.
Breanna would have noticed Fred Weasley surrounded by the rest of his family. Neville and Oliver Wood carefully moving Colin Creevey out of the way. She would have seen all of them, had it not been for a certain old, brown coat in her peripheral vision.
Her world fell apart, she found herself unable to breathe and didn’t realize she had sprinted towards her father before she felt two, strong arms wrap around her. Breanna struggled and tried to push them away, but didn’t have enough strength to do so. She crumpled to the ground and was pulled into a tight embrace.
“Bree…”, a soft voice mumbled. “I’m so sorry. Can you try to breathe slower, please? Deep and easy, alright.”
She realized that someone was speaking to her, but she didn’t recognize the words. They held no meaning, almost as if he spoke a different language, or stood very far away. Breanna eventually stopped hyperventilating and tried to ease the shaking as she slowly turned to check who it was, sitting with his arms around her. Her eyes met a pair of emerald green ones.
“Harry.”, she whispered, still crying but trying to keep her focus on him. There was so much more she would have wanted to say, but she was unable to find the right words. “Please tell me.... Tell me he’s no-...”
“‘m sorry”
They sat for a few minutes before Harry picked a small vial from his pocket and asked if she’d be okay.
“Bree, I’m sorry, but I have to go. It’s not over yet.”
She took a deep breath.
“It’s fine, I get it. Go. I’d love a moment alone anyways.”
~~~
She sat by her father’s side for a while, but felt unable to look at him, not wanting to fully accept the reality of the situation. It was when the fifth person came up to her to give their condolences that she got up and left the great hall. She couldn’t take it, and besides, it should be fine. The death eaters had left.
She walked the familiar path towards the Gryffindor common room, but nothing seemed... real. It felt like a nightmare, only this time she couldn’t talk it through with her dad over a cup of tea. This time, nobody would be there to convince her it was just a bad dream.
This time, no one would wake her up…
The very moment that thought crossed her mind, a dark chuckle shattered the otherwise eerie silence.
“Avada kedavra”
She barely had time to register Antonin Dolohov with his wand pointed in her direction before an intense flash of green light caused her world to go dark.
This time, she wouldn’t wake up.
~~~
*Darkness*
*A flicker of light*
*A flicker of... hope*
*Warmth?*
~~~
It was a weird feeling. She didn’t feel happy, but rather… at peace. She sat up slowly and let her eyes adjust to the brightness as two voices simultaneously asked:
“Bree?!”
She turned around and found herself face to face with a rather tall, red haired wizard, and a slightly older man with longer brown hair.
“Fred? Sirius?”
Fred skipped over and held out his hand, helping his younger friend to her feet. He immediately noticed her dried tears and pulled her into a tight embrace. Sirius remained a few feet away with a pained expression on his face, but was unable to stay quiet for long.
“What happened?”
Breanna pulled away and met her godfather’s worried gaze.
“I… It’s my fault. I thought all the Death Eaters had left the castle. They were waiting for Harry in the forbidden forest and I just needed some air...”
“Did Harry go?”
A couple Breanna had only seen in pictures, but knew to be James and Lily Potter, had appeared behind Sirius.
“I’m not sure. He left for Dumbledore’s office about fifteen minutes earlier. I’m sorry I didn’t even try to stop him but, with all due respect, he would have gone anyways. It’s impossible to change his mind once he decides on something.”
To her surprise, none of Harry’s parents looked very worried, but shared a smile instead.
“Don’t worry, Breanna.”, said Lily gently, “He’ll know what to do when the time comes.”
“You’ve both come so far”, added James, “Things will be fine in the end, and if they’re not fine, then it’s not the end.”
“I hope you’re both right…”, she mumbled quietly, “sorry, but is dad…?”
James smiled sadly and nodded before turning to call his old friend over, however Sirius got there first.
“Oi! Moony! Get over ‘ere.”
Remus had been discussing something not too far away, and Sirius’ comment made him chuckle as he approached the other marauders.
“Easy, Pads, you make it sound li-”
That was all he had time for, as two arms wrapped themselves tightly around his torso. He would have known who it was even without looking. He’d recognize that hug anywhere. He promised himself he wouldn’t cry, but all it took was one word.
one. single. word.
“Dad!”
A single word before hot, salty tears filled his eyes. It wasn’t possible!? He was completely lost for words. Didn’t know how to react, what to say or what to do. He just stood there, his arms wrapped around his only daughter, unable to process the fact that she was… dead. They both were.
“Dad, I’m so so so sorry! I shouldn’t have shouted, I shouldn’t have taken my anger or fear out on you and above all I shouldn’t have left!?! I… I..”
“Bree”
“And now Teddy won’t have his father-”
“Bree!!”
“And I swear I tried to find you, but I couldn’t and then it was too late and it’s all my fault a-”
“Breanna Lupin!!!”
She fell silent but didn’t let go.
“I’m s-”
“Darling, calm down! What’s done is done, alright. I still wish you hadn’t gone, especially given the apparent outcome, but I understand. Are you okay? Nothing broken?”
“No, I’m good, actually… Nothing hurts at all, but-”
“Good!” He pulled away and put his hands on her shoulders. “Would you mind letting me in on what happened?”
She took a deep breath and closed her eyes, not really wanting to talk about the last few hours, yet knowing she owed her father that much.
“I… I entered the great hall and saw… you. I don’t quite know what happened, I just… broke. Then Harry showed up and we just hugged, I guess?”
Lily and James looked at each other and smiled.
“Then we both left and Dolohov appeared out of nowhere and… well that’s that.”
Remus shook his head sadly, immediately understanding the true meaning of his daughter’s words. HE was duelling Dolohov earlier that night. HE lost that duel. Had he won then maybe, possibly, she would still be alive too. His fault... as always
“Remus? Rem?”, James mumbled, putting an arm around his friend’s shoulders, “It’s not your fault. You tried, and that’s the best either of us can do.”
~~~
Things didn’t go according to plan, but perhaps they were the way they were always meant to be.
Her body next to her fathers, as they rested peacefully in the great hall. Her soul next to her father, as they wandered through the deep valleys of Nangijala, awaiting the day lost friends and lovers would come join them. No matter in this life or in the next;
I’ll be by your side

April 24th, 1912 - American Inquiry Day 5
Day 5: The committee picked right back up with Frederick Fleet returning to continue his testimony. After Fleet’s questioning was finished, Senator Smith made a lengthy speech about the intent of the investigation, “ to get all of the facts bearing upon this unfortunate catastrophe that we are able to obtain” ; he also touched on their plan to first get testimonies from the British citizens (and how that had gone over), he ends his speech with a firm declaration that no further attempts to sway the course of the investigation would be tolerated.
The witnesses for the day were as follows:
Frederick Fleet, Lookout, RMS Titanic;
Harold G. Lowe, Fifth Officer, RMS Titanic;
Charles Lightoller, Second Officer, RMS Titanic;
Robert Hichens, Quartermaster, RMS Titanic
Also included during this day of inquiry were two memorandums submitted by Herbert Pitman, Third Officer, RMS Titanic, as well as an additional final statement made by Hichens.

Ship’s Run
Additional Statement
Notable Quotes/Lines of Questionning:
It is interesting that when asked to judge distances, specifically about how far ahead the iceberg was when he saw it, Fleet always replied that he “could not say”. Even when led by the senators to guess a distance, he was hesitant. According to Fleet, his only job was to ring the bridge and tell them what he saw, and in the case of the Titanic, he did exactly that, and gave no estimation as to distance. He later even admits “I am not a good judge of distance; I could not say”.
When asked at what point, had he had the glasses (binoculars) would he have used them, Fleet testified that they only use them to confirm when they saw something on the horizon. They did not utilize them the whole watch.
“But from the beginning until now there has been a voluntary, gratuitous, meddlesome attempt upon the part of certain persons to influence the course of the committee and to shape its procedure.” – Senator Smith in his statement.
“Worked out things; worked out the odds and ends, and then submitted them to the senior officer. We are there to do the navigating part so the senior officer can be and shall be in full charge of the bridge and have nothing to worry his head about. We have all that, the junior officers; there are four of us. The three seniors are in absolute charge of the boat. They have nothing to worry themselves about. They simply have to walk backward and forward and look after the ship, and we do all the figuring and all that sort of thing in our chart room.”- Lowe (a good description of officer duties)
This was Lowe’s first trip in the Atlantic, therefore he did not know much about the area or which track they were on.
“No. It is the White Star routine. The White Star Co. have regulations, just the same, in fact, as the Navy, and we all know exactly what to do, how to do it, when to do it, and where to do it. Everybody knows his business, and they do it. There is no hitch in anything.” – Lowe (It has seemed to me that all crew members were under the same impression, when asked if something was done, they said yes, because they all always did their duties, so it was a natural thing to assume things had been done. Smith often had to follow up asking whether they saw it, heard of it, etc.)
Lowe was asked if he was a “temperate man” because a story had been passed on to Senator Smith by a reputable man that Lowe was drinking the night of the collision. Lowe indicated towards his glass of water in front of him and said it was the “strongest drink he ever takes”.
The first thing Lowe did when he heard what had happened, was go and get his revolver. When asked why Lowe replied: “Well sir, you never know when you will need it.”
“You say "select." There was no such thing as selecting. It was simply the first woman, whether first class, second class, third class, or sixty-seventh class. It was all the same; women and children were first.” – Lowe
They also questioned Lowe about the shots he fired. Lowe was worried that if anyone tried to jump in the boat he was being lowered in, the weight might collapse the boat. He fired between the lifeboat alongside the Titanic horizontally, three times as warning.
Quartermaster Hichens was sworn in and related all that had happened up until he was in the lifeboat with Fleet and Peuchen, both of whom had testified prior to Hichens, and shown him in an unfavorable light. Senator Smith then asks Hichens specifically about what happened in the boat and he denies a lot of what Fleet and Peuchen had spoken of when it came to his demeanor.
“I would like to make a little statement as regarding Mrs. Mayer's [Meyer] statement in the newspapers about my drinking the whisky sir, and about the blankets. I was very cold, sir, and I was standing up in the boat. I had no hat on. A lady had a flask of whisky or brandy, or something of that description, given her by some gentleman on the ship before she left, and she pulled it out and gave me about a tablespoonful and I drank it. Another lady, who was lying in the bottom of the boat, in a rather weak condition gave me a half wet and half dry blanket to try keep myself a little warm, as I was half frozen. I think it was very unkind of her, sir, to make any statement criticizing me. When we got to the ship I handled everyone as carefully as I could, and I was the last one to leave the boat, and I do not think I deserve anything like that to be put in the papers. That is what upset me and got on my nerves.” - Hichens
When the committee was finished with questioning Hichens, they allowed him to return to England, making him promise that he would return if desired. (He was not recalled). When Senator Smith was asked if Fleet and a couple other of the crew could return home also he stated he was not done with them yet.

It should have been an easy day. Izuku woke before his alarm and the sun is shining, he’d even snagged the last spicy pork bun at the stall he usually stops at for breakfast. There had been no major events while he’d slept and his desk is—by rare chance—empty of reports when he gets in. He spends the morning with a smile on his face, relaxed.Of course it doesn’t last. Izuku is so tired. He’s overused his quirk and he’s separated from the other heroes. He knows he’s so far past his limits, but there’s a whisper in his heart that knows this has to be it. This is his chance to end everything, to finally bring the villain down. There is no other option. The final fight with All For One ensues and Izuku is hard pressed when Bakugo arrives. It’s a simple enough plan: they’ve been tracking the source of several riots that have occurred in the recent weeks and came to the conclusion it had to be a quirk. The lack of memory from the riot victims, no traces of chemicals or any environmental causes found, and the spontaneous explosion of violence that preceded each event narrowed possible inciting incident quite a bit. Then in reviewing security footage of the events, a single, fire-red head was spotted floating in and out of the chaos at each location. In trying to take down a villain with a rage-inducing quirk, Katsuki gets hit and Izuku has to protect him from himself.

Movie vs. Reality: "Titanic" (1997)
I was asked about how close James Cameron's version of Titanic came to the actual event, so here goes.... (I hope I got everything and will try to get them in order as they appear in the movie.)
Titanic: Movie vs. Reality
First off, let's get that crappy love story out of the way: The love story between Jack & Rose was based on the true life First Class couple Isadore & Ida Straus.
There was a Jack Dawson and Rose Dewitt who married in 1914. However, the real Mr. Dawson would have been traveling First Class, neither were on Titanic, and they did not meet at sea.
Most of what was found in the safe at the beginning of the movie would have been long gone by the time it was found.
The sun was not shining in Southampton on April 10th, 1912. There was complete overcast.
Titanic was nicknamed "Ship of Dreams".
The big celebration at the docks: Titanic wasn't really a big deal. That was Olympic, the year before.
Tickets won in a card game: This actually happened, though the players' names and nationalities are not known.
"God, Himself can not sink this ship" : Yeah... People actually said that and they actually believed it...
There were 10 dogs on board. Only 3 survived.
Margaret Brown was never called "Molly" in her lifetime. Her friends called her "Maggie". She boarded at Queenstown, Ireland, not Cherbourg, France, as Rose claimed.
Given the strict rules of separation, it is highly unlikely Jack and Rose would have ever met. Many of the places they went, no passengers would have been allowed to go.
The "Heart of the Ocean" is based on a real necklace worn by a first class survivor called the "Sapphire of the Sea".
Every single person Rose mentioned was a first class passenger in real life. However, Mrs. Madeline Astor was not Rose's age. Rose was 17, while Mrs. Astor was 19.
Ruth referred to Jack as "steerage". This term was not used on Titanic. The poorest people on board were called "Third Class".
Everyone being annoyed by Molly Brown's presence: This is true. She wasn't born into money and didn't always follow the rules of Society, so many of the first class passengers detested her.
Sunday Service led by the captain: This happened on the morning of April 14th. However, Jack would not have been kept from the service. It was open to all classes.
The hymn they were singing was actually sang during the service on the ship.
Tours of the ship: This did happen, but unlike in the movie, Captain Smith never called Harold Bride "Sparks". He called him by his name.
"Speed up and arrive a day early" : This likely never happened. Titanic wasn't built for speed, J. Bruce Ismay was simply a passenger, and White Star Line's motto was "Slow and Easy". That being said, it's not likely the company chairman would have insisted on speeding up.
Second Officer Charles Lightoller concerned about the lookouts not having binoculars: This really was a concern he brought to the captain's attention.
There wasn't a Jack Dawson on board. There was a Jay Dawson in First Class. He travelled alone, kept to himself, and died in the sinking. He traded his Mauritania ticket for Titanic because he wanted E. J. Smith for his captain. There was also a trimmer named Joseph Dawson. He was lost in the sinking.
"Iceberg, right ahead!": This isn't what was actually said. Lookout Frederick Fleet wasn't panicking and he calmly said, "Ice, dead ahead of us, sir." He actually thought they'd missed it, at first.
The ship really did hit the iceberg on First Officer William Murdoch's watch and the orders he gave were the same in the movie. James Cameron's version probably came closest to the true reactions of those on the Bridge at that time. The boiler room scenes were pretty accurate.
The meeting between J. Bruce Ismay, Thomas Andrews, & Captain Smith did happen much as portrayed.
People were playing with the ice and a few people fell when it happened.
The wireless operators really weren't surprised when they were told of the situation and told to send out CQD. Both had premonitions about the sinking. Knowing Californian was nearby and expecting her to answer, they joked about the officers being incompetent.
All the orders given to the officers were correct.
Second Officer Lightoller asking if it was time to fill the boats: He did this. Captain Smith said it was women and children first, but Officer Lightoller heard women and children only. He really did refuse to let any male 12 or older into the boats.
There really was a dispute between J. Bruce Ismay and Second Officer Lightoller.
After Thomas Andrews realized that the boats were leaving less than half empty, he did confront Second Officer Lightoller, who then began filling them about halfway to capacity.
"And the band played on..." : Yes, they did - for two hours and ten minutes. They played ragtime until most of the boats were gone, and they began to play hymns.
"Maybe you should try sending SOS. It's the new distress call, and it could be your last chance to send it." : The actual words said by Harold Bride to Jack Phillips. Everyone laughed. He later said those words, "It could be your last chance to send it" haunted him for the rest of his life.
SOS was not new. It had always been the standard call for distress. The Marconi Company came up with CQD ("ATTENTION ALL STATIONS: WE ARE IN DISTRESS"). After the sinking, CQD was dropped completely.
Some third class passengers waited around while, others just took the corridors.
There was a Syrian family traveling in Third Class, represented by a Muslim family in the movie. None of them survived and only one member, a small child was found.
A few passengers broke down a locked door to free a fellow passenger. They were told they would have to pay for it.
"Mr. Lowe, man this boat." : Second Officer Lightoller said this to Fifth Officer Harold Godfrey Lowe after threatening men with an unloaded gun. After being told to do so himself, Second Officer Lightoller replied, "Not damn likely!", and told Fifth Officer Lowe to take his place.
Fifth Officer Lowe did fire three shots in the air to warn the men attempting to board boat #14 to steer clear.
No passengers were shot and First Officer Murdoch didn't shoot himself. He was last seen throwing deck chairs into the water and was most likely washed overboard.
Thomas Andrews was asked by a passenger what was really going on. His last known whereabouts aren't really known, but it's widely believed he was washed overboard from the Bridge area.
"We are dressed in our best and prepared to go down like gentleman." : Part of Benjamin Guggenheim's last speech. I think the rest should have been included: "But if anything should happen to me, please let my wife know that I behaved decently, and that no woman or child was left on this ship because Benjamin Guggenheim was a coward."
The woman asking what happened was Second Class Passenger Mrs. Nellie Becker. She and her three children survived.
"Everyone up, life belts on!" : That's basically how those in Third Class were told to get up.
First and Second Class were told to dress warmly and go to the Boat Deck.
"Daddy, get into the boat!" "It's goodbye for a little while. Only for a little while. There'll be another boat for the daddies. This boat is only for the mommies and the children. Now, you hold Mommy's hand and be a good little girl." : The last conversation between seven year old Second Class Passenger Ava Hart and her father.
The abandoned child: There were a few. At least two of them survived, at least three did not.
The last song played was "Autumn". Only those who got away on the first few boats heard "Nearer, My God, to Thee".
Second Officer Lightoller was washed overboard and took cammand of Collapsible B, saving 36 of the 41 men who made it to the boat.
J. Bruce Ismay didn't "sneak" into a lifeboat. He was ordered into Collapsible C.
Collapsible A was swamped.
Collapsible B fell upside down onto the deck with Harold Bride trapped under it. He survived by climbing on to it. Some of the crew helping to release Collapsible B simply jumped on to it.
The elderly couple were the Isador and Ida Straus. They chose to die together over getting separated. They were last seen at the stern.
"Is there any room in the boat for a gentleman, gentlemen?" : The last words Madeline Astor heard her husband say. He was later offered a place in a boat, but sent a woman and her young daughter in his place.
Many people were caught by the funnel.
"Music to drown by! Now I know I'm in First Class!" : They changed it a little. When the band began to play, Harold Bride said, "Will you listen to that? They're playing music for us to drown by. We're finally getting the first class treatment we deserve." Jack Phillips responded, "They're now offering dance lessons on the main deck and swimming lessons in the grand ballroom."
There were children mesmerized by the distress rockets.
The distress rockets were seen by the officers on Californian, but basically ignored.
Harold Bride did tell Captain Smith that Carpathia was the closest ship that was answering and would take four hours to reach them.
People were running towards the stern.
Californian can be seen in the background. This is historically accurate and shouldn't be considered a mistake. Californian was believed to be around ten miles away and the officers saw each other's ships.
Captain Smith was last seen in the area of the Bridge. He was asked by two women where to go, but unlike the movie, he helped them. He didn't seem to be in shock.
First Officer Murdoch was letting men into the boats when no women or children were around.
There was a man injured by the propellers. He was lost.
Myths and Misconceptions:
There was no bunker fire.
Olympic and Titanic were not switched. Olympic was 500 miles away when she got Titanic's distress call and began racing to the scene. She was 100 miles away, when she got Carpathia's message, warning her to "steer clear and continue on original course".
The wireless operators weren't crew members, they were contracted to the lines. They had only one thing in common with the crew : A mutual distain for each other.
Third Class passengers were not "locked in."
There were claims of a dead child being handed to Second Officer Lightoller. This is a myth. No one swam out to Collapsible B with a child of any age, neither dead nor alive.
Molly Brown did not try to take over her boat, but she did give the men a hard time. The woman next to her with the baby is believed to be the Allison nanny, Alice Cleaver. The baby is Trevor Allison. This is wrong. Alice and Trevor were in boat #14. Mrs. Nancy "Bess" Allison and her two year old daughter Lorraine were thrown into boat #6, but allowed to get out when Mrs. Allison said her son was missing and she wasn't going to leave without him. Only Trevor survived. Lorraine Allison was the only child lost who was not in Third Class.
There was a guy who got drunk, the chief baker. He was the only one to stay on the whole time and survive, saying he "rode it down like an elevator". He survived by climbing on to Collapsible B.
Californian could not have "saved everyone". She only carried four lifeboats and could have only taken on 250 people. She was also surrounded by ice and had barely missed hitting an iceberg a few hours earlier.
Even if Titanic had hit the iceberg head on, the ship still would have sank.
Two survived by climbing on to doors that were floating in the water.
Jack and Rose could not have both fit on the door and kept it floating. In real life, neither of them would have survived to see the end.
There were at least 16 ships in the area. All answered except Californian.
Carpathia was the second ship to respond, not the only one, as was implied in the movie.
The officers fired guns in the air.
There weren't nearly enough lifeboats.
The so-called "mystery ship" wasn't a mystery for long. It was Californian.
One of the men in boat #13 had to use his knife to cut the ropes in order to keep boat #15 from landing on top of them.
There was a priest who was offered a place in a lifeboat, but chose to stay and pray with those who couldn't escape, offering them absolution.
Fifth Officer Lowe was the only one to go back for survivors, pulling eight from the water, six of whom survived. He also picked up the four survivors of Collapsible A and the surviving men and one dead from the upturned Collapsible B. However, his was not the only one to return to the scene. He commandeered boats #4, #6, #8, and #12.
All of the collapsibles and three of the standard boats were incapable of returning for survivors or taking on more. Boats #5 and #7 were the first to leave the ship. They both flipped over. If Cal had been on a boat that flipped, he would have had to be on one of the first two to leave.
No one knows if the chief officer blew his whistle and said, "Bring back the boats", but someone did.
The horrible screams of the dying was the one thing no survivor could forget.
The "never an absolution" statement came from Harold Bride : "After the screams had subsided and the sea was quiet again, all the rest of us had to do was wait. Some of us waited to live, while others waited to die. All of us waited for an absolution that would never come. For some of us, it will never come."
It was raining hard when Carpathia reached New York.
"The Dream" was described by many survivors.
Senior Wireless Operator Jack Phillips received an ice warning from the Masaba about half an hour before the collision that he didn't take to the Bridge. Second Officer Lightoller tried to use this as a way blaming the wireless operators for the whole thing, but it failed. Jack Phillips died and his surviving colleague, Harold Bride denied knowing anything about it until it was brought up during the Inquiries.
1,523 lives were lost, 705 were saved. (The numbers have changed many times, but this is the most widely accepted and is the numbers used by the Inquiries.)
All liners at the time had a 24/7 radio watch and two operators. After the sinking, it became mandatory on all vessels.
I see Edward Smith as a hero. I believe he did his best, given the situation. I do not think anyone can honestly say we know we could have done better or would have done anything differently than he did. He was the best sea captain of his day, even being praised by rivals. He wasn't called "Billionaire's Captain" for nothing. Those who could afford to choose their captain, almost always chose him.
"Their Deaths Were Not In Vain"
Many things changed as a result of the sinking:
Lifeboats were required for all on board, not based on tonnage and routine drills became a requirement.
24/7 radio vigilance became a requirement on all vessels.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) was founded and established by survivor Harold Bride.
The International Ice Patrol was created.
Shipping lanes were moved further south.
Strict rules concerning class distinction and separation requirements on ships ended.
Many survivors faded into the background. Others wished to.
J. Bruce Ismay resigned as White Star Chairman, and was wrongfully demonized. He died in 1936.
Molly Brown took up a collection for Third Class survivors. She refused to leave Carpathia until she made sure that every single survivor had been reunited with their loved ones and every single one had received proper medical attention. She later ran for the US Senate, before women were even able to vote. She died in 1929.
Charles Lightoller continued to work for White Star and hated being called a hero. He said he was only doing his duty and what he did on Collapsible B was "only what any good officer would have done." He did the exact same thing at Dunkirk, saving 19 and losing no one, saying of it, "I was only doing my duty". He was the only survivor who publicly insisted Cyril Evans of the Californian was completely innocent. He died in 1952.
Captain Stanley Lord of the Californian was blamed and fired from Leland Lines for his failure to respond. He later took command of a another ship through a subsidiary of Leland. He died in 1969.
Cyril Evans, Californian's lone wireless operator, claimed he was asleep the whole time and found innocent at both Inquiries. He went back to life as usual, but was never given an assignment at sea again. He served in communications during both world wars and eventually became regional manager of the Marconi Company's successor. Privately, he had to defend himself for the rest of his life, as many survivors and victims' families blamed him. He died in 1957.
Harold Bride was seriously injured and had to be helped every step of the way. He collapsed upon reaching the deck of Carpathia. After two days, he had recovered enough to return to work, spending the rest of the trip helping their wireless operator. He had a hand in writing three books about the sinking, even though he hated talking about it and hated the celebrity status that came with being a survivor. In 1914, he founded the precursor to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and served as telegraphist about Mona's Isle during WWI. He eventually moved to Scotland and became a successful travelling salesman. He died in 1956, the last of the Collapsible B survivors. He never publicly blamed Cyril Evans for not responding to their distress call, but their relationship was forever strained.
Carpathia's captain and crew were celebrated. Californian's crew was demonized.
Carpathia and Californian were both torpedoed and sank during WWI.
At least 43 people on board had premonitions about the sinking. Only 21 survived.
Jack Phillips told family and friends that he dreaded the ice field he knew they would have to travel through and wished he was assigned another ship. He told them what to do if he didn't return home from this trip. He died on Collapsible B at dawn and was buried at sea from Carpathia.
Charles Lightoller said he had an unshakable uneasy feeling about the trip.
No other liner has ever been taken down by an iceberg.

So I saw someone ask if you were going to have a character based on Violet Jessop character. And I had a suggestion. A character based on Harold Lowe, Titanic's Fifth Officer, and the only person to go back and look for survivors.
:0000 now that’s interesting! Thank you for the suggestion!!

Downton Abbey - References to Historical Figures + References to Other Fictional Characters and Works
The following are two lists; one are real people who where mentioned on Downton Abbey, and the other is fictional characters and works that were also mentioned in the show. I complied these two lists together (because sometimes I had to research what was indeed being referenced!). As I didn’t know if I’d ever been sharing these lists, I don’t have the episode numbers listed out, but they do go in order by mention.
Real Historical Figures Mentioned in Downton
* means that the person was not contemporary of the characters and there for famous or well-known to them. Others without it may not be known personally by them, but are their contemporaries. Some of these have made it to the character list, if for sure they did indeed know the Crawleys, or other any other major character.

Some conjecture has been put forward regarding other officers being the suicide victim. For instance, in a 1954 interview with Harold Bride by Ernest Robinson and related in Richard Edkins Dalbeattie website, he mentions that Bride saw ‘Murdoch lying motionless in the water and Moody appeared to have suffered a heard injury.’ (paraphrased from Richard Edkin’s text, Murdoch of the Titanic (1.)) prompting Bride to wonder at the time if it was Sixth Officer Moody who had been shot. Yet, as already considered, Bride was most likely on the port side and never on the starboard side. Also, while under oath, he testified to the fact the he was incapable of identifying any of the officers at the time Titanic sank. George Behe, in analysing this claim, wrote the following:
“As for the webmaster’s [Richard Edkin’s] reference to Sixth Officer Moody (‘was Moody shot?’), this seems to be an attempt to divert attention away from First Officer Murdoch, but the attempt does not hold up to close scrutiny. We know that Titanic’s senior officers -- Smith, Wilde, Murdoch and Lightoller -- were issued Company weapons during the evacuation of the Titanic, and we also know that Fifth Officer Lowe carried his own personal weapon that night; there is absolutely no evidence, however, that Titanic’s remaining junior officers (Moody, Boxhall and Pitman) were armed during the sinking of the Titanic -- which means Sixth Officer Moody probably could not have taken his own life with a revolver even if he had wished to.” (George Behe, First Officer Murdoch and the ‘Dalbeattie Defense’ (11.))
Paul Quinn writes that Moody’s likely cause of death was the same as most of those at collapsible A who were engulfed in “the equivalent of a small tidal wave that pounced on the deck .. abruptly and without warning… Sixth Officer Moody was inundated by the rush of water”

No one knows how much we cried that day. (Titanic oneshot)
Warning: Very Angsty. Song that I recommend listening to: Listen to your heart- Slow version- DHT
I’ll cover you Reprise. -Rent
My Love- Sia (I recommend this one the most)
Charles couldn’t believe what he saw in front of him. Sine was getting moved from the lifeboat to the Carpathia but he couldn’t help the tears that started to build up in his eyes as he realized she had died, as she lay on the stretcher motionless, her skin almost matching the white of the life vest she had on. She had died in that water, alone and scared, hoping to be saved. Harold was right. They waited too long. Sine looked peaceful and if Charles simply ignored the ice on her hair and clothes, he could almost pretend that she was just asleep. He heard Boxhall choke back a sob from behind, a string of curses from Pitman and he heard Harold sniff as the fifth officer tried his hardest not to break down on the main deck of the Carpathia. Harold was the one who found Sine and Henry Wilde. the poor lad blamed himself for not being able to save them. If only they went back sooner.
Charles found himself walking away from the other officers. He needed some time alone. He walked to where steerage was being held and walked over to the railings, leaning against them, looking out at the ocean. In the last 12 hours, he had lost his best friend William Murdoch, the girl he loved like a sister Sine Murphy,Henry Wilde, his superior and a man he considered a friend and James Moody, his close friend. Oh God James. Poor lad was only 24. He was a hero right until the end. Wise and braver beyond his years. It would also be likely that his body would never be recovered. He couldn’t even give James, Will or Henry a proper funeral. Charles would miss them more than he would ever know.
Charles’ mind drifted back to Sine. Why hadn’t he made sure she got onto a boat? Why didn’t he force her onto a boat? He couldn’t help himself as he slammed a hand down on the railing before burying his head in his hand, sobs racking through his body. Harold couldn’t help but feel helpless as he watched Charles. Boxhall and Pitman had left a few minutes after Charles, seeing if anyone needed help so they could distract their minds. Harold watched as he watched one of the strongest men he knew break down. Harold looked up at the sky despite the rain that was starting to tickle down gently from the sky.
“Look after her James. You hear me. You bloody look after her for us. I’m sorry we couldn’t save you James. Sine..I’m so sorry we didn’t come back until it was too late. I’m so sorry. It’s all my fault that you’re not here. I love you Sine, James..I’m so sorry” Harold whispered, rain mixing with the tears on his cheeks.
James couldn’t help the tears that ran down his cheeks as he held Sine close to him. Why did she have to be here? Why wasn’t she on the Carpathia with their friends? Why didn’t she get on a boat. James kissed her forehead, showing how much he loved her as well as he could. Everyone had generally filtered out of the area that lead the grand staircase, searching for anyone they may know, loved one or not. Only Murdoch and Wilde remained the room, talking in the corner, occasionally the two senior officers would sneak glances at the couple, that were still locked in each other’s embraces, tears running down the lover’s faces.
“James” Sine spoke up, her voice wavering. James looked up and he didn’t want to believe what he was seeing. Sine was literally disappearing from view, like she hadn’t been in his arms for the past 10 minutes. Murdoch and Wilde, who had looked over, also looked mildly alarmed and worried but didn’t know what to do.
“I love you” Sine smiled softly at James before she just disappeared into thin air like she had never been there. James looked at the space that she had just occupied. Nothing was there now. James couldn’t believe it. He had lost her twice. The woman he loved.
In June of 1912, back home in Ireland, Sine’s funeral was held. The whole thing was arranged by and paid for by the surviving officers. Sine had no family and only a few friends. The funeral was small. Held in a small church that was near to where she used to live. Only 12 people attended the funeral. The surviving officers, Rose DeWitt Bukater (who had become close friends with Sine), Molly Brown,Harold Bride (Who had talked with Sine many times and he considered her a close friend and he knew Phillips though the same before he died) Fleet and Lee (who loved being around Sine, they always had the best pranks thanks to her) and unbeknownst to all attending, Ismay was stood at the back of the church. He felt it was his duty to attend.
The small speeches everyone made would of made Sine smile and tear up. What everyone had said was beautiful. It was enough to move even the strongest man to tears.
“It’s right that the funeral is held in June. It was Sine’s favorite month. She loved how the weather got warmer and how nature seemed to come to life. I knew we’d be friends from the moment we met..there was this horrible person harassing her just because she had decided to wear men’s clothing..and she just walked up to him and said “I’m more of a man that you’ll ever be and more of a woman you’ll ever get” “ Sine’s friend, Dorothy spoke with a fond smile, looking at the coffin once more before taking her seat.
“Sine also said how lucky she was that we were all friends but it was us Sine..” Harold Lowe turned to look at the coffin. “Who were the lucky ones”
“Sine may be gone from sight but she hasn’t left us. Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard but always near, still loved and still missed and very dear.” Rose spoke, tears cascading down her face, she was unable to look at the coffin as she made her way back to her seat.
“I think a part of us died with Sine, knowing that we’ll never be able to see her again, or hear her laugh or sing or dance ever again but when we lost her, every memory of her became a treasure that we’ll never lose. I hope that we can all find peace in knowing that she’ll be with us every single day, making sure we’re all happy” Harold Bride was crying at this point, tears running down his face and onto the paper his speech was written on, causing the ink to run like the tears he was releasing.
“ And hopefully, she can continue to inspire us everyday, to make us laugh even when no light can be found. There is no shame in crying, in mourning and wishing that she was still here with us, even if we’re still crying 5 years later, there is no shame, only to ability to bring us closer. She wouldn’t want her death to separate us, she would want us to remain a family. Sine taught me that family isn’t always blood. It’s the people in your life who want you in theirs, the ones who accept you for who you are, the ones who would do anything to see you smile and love you no matter what.” Molly turned to the picture of Sine and smiled when she saw the picture of the girl smiling brightly back at her.
“Sine..meeting you was fate, becoming your friend was a choice but falling in love with who you were and how you also made good out of a bad situation was out of my control and 1 universe, 9 planets, 204 countries, 809 islands, 7 seas and we all had the privilege to meet you. I would give anything to have you back.. I kept hoping that it as a bad dream and I hoped that every morning I would wake up to you smiling as you walked onto the bridge or the sound of you singing when you thought no one was there and every morning those hopes were crushed. You were my best friend and I’ll never forget you” Boxhall spoke
“You meant the world to us Sine and I love you like you were my own sister more than words can say. I will keep going on for you,we’ll keep going for you and there will never be a day where I’m not thinking of you” Pitman tried his hardest not to cry when he was speaking.”Our small, stupid conversations meant more to me than you’ll ever know”
“Sine taught me something during the few days I knew her and it’s a piece of advice that I’ll live by every day. There is no future, there is no past. There’s only us.There’s only this. Forget regret or life is yours to miss” Fleet turned to the coffin and placed his hand on the top of it. “I’ll miss you”
“Sine always said that there was no day but today and she was right. She lived each day as it came. Made it count. She wasn’t rich but she didn’t need money to be happy. The saying “money can’t buy happiness” was right in Sine’s case. She found happiness around her, happiness from being with friends, being with people who she considered her family but we accepted her with open arms. She was able to cheer everyone up just by walking into a room and i’ll miss having that little ray of sunshine. I’ll miss everything about her. I wish I could of done more to save her” Lee spoke, his voice cracking.
Now it was Charles’ turn.
Charles stood at the top of the altar where Sine’s coffin was, a framed picture of her smiling resting on top. He tried to speak but no words came out. No words cold describe how much he would miss her. No words could explain the regret and guilt he felt for not saving her. He clenched his fists as he felt tears running down in his face again. He hadn’t noticed that everyone behind him that stood up and had started singing a song that Sine had taught them.
“ So with a thousand sweet kisses, I’ll cover you” Dorothy sang
“525,600 minutes” The other sang in the background.
“ 525,600 minutes” They sang “525,000 seasons of love” Charles sang, his voice weak as he cast one last look at Sine’s coffin.
