Premise: When Edward introduces Bella to his family after weeks of avoiding the inevitable, there was no telling how it was going to go down. Of course, what does one expect when they bring their girlfriend over for the first time…. except it's to a family of animal blood-sucking vampires who's lives each deserve a biography of their own. Bella felt the pressure of making a great impression, but the nerves seemed to heighten in regard to meeting the woman responsible for raising Edward throughout his undead life. The woman whose soul was bonded to none other than the Cullen patriarch.
--------------------------
Over a hundred years walking the Earth and Edward still experienced the universal feeling of cringe and embarrassment. This time, at the hands of none other than his family as he introduced him to the girl who’d captured his undead heart and made it hard for Edward to stay away.
“Alright, um,” he swallowed, placing a gentle hand on Bella’s back to nudge her in the direction of the staircase. Away from the prying eyes of his siblings and Carlisle after Alice had to say, ‘Oh, you do smell good,’ and Jesper was literally fighting for his life to keep it together. “Where’s Y/n?”
“In her studio,” Carlisle replied with a smile, the mention of his wife bringing a warmth to his chest. “She’s working on a project and can definitely use a break. She’s been excited to meet Bella since you mentioned bringing her over.”
Bella blushed, the nerves resurfacing at meeting another member of the Cullen family. The matriarch at that. Edward’s adoptive mother and Carlisle’s wife.
“Thanks,” Edward turned on his heel, leading Bella in the opposite direction. Mumbling a short goodbye, she followed the vampire down the corridor, past the staircase and a living space before stopping in front of a wooden door.
Before he knocked, Edward put a comforting hand on Bella’s shoulder, “Calm down,” his teeth sparkled against the light, eyes teasing. “Your heartbeat is out of control.”
“Sorry,” she flushed again, cursing at herself. She didn’t understand why she was so nervous to meet Y/n. More so than the rest of his family. Maybe it was because Edward spoke so highly of her. Maybe it was because she saw the way Carlisle lit up at the mere mention of her name. Or how the townspeople praised Y/n, even if they only had one interaction.
Edward went to knock, but this time was interrupted by a voice calling out from the other side, “Come in!” Smiling, he pushed open the door, revealing a large room in what only could be described as an organized disarray.
Bella’s jaw slightly dropped, taking in the scene before her. Eyes first darting to the high ceilings with a drop-down chandelier. Though it wasn’t on, thanks to the natural light provided by the left side of the room with floor to ceiling windows where a wall should’ve been. A beautiful, perfect view of the forest surrounding the home.
The walls were painted a rusted burnt red, the kind you see in art museums. Floors made of the finest dark wood, with one area covered by plastic reserved for protecting it by the paint cans laying on top, beside an easel holding a large canvas. A very large, vintage clock took the center of the wall connected to the window, surrounded by pieces ranging from old signs to shelves holding books and plants.
On the main wall parallel to the windows, a map of the world hung, flanked by art pieces. Portraits, landscape. Various mediums of pencil, oils, and acrylic. A phone straight from the 1930s mounted above a small table covered by messy stacks of paper. Bella’s eyes drew to a woven basket that came probably to her waist, filled with pieces of rolled parchment. A few laid on the ground. A foot away from it was a cart holding art supplies.
Finally, Bella’s gaze landed on the figure in the center of the room. Y/n sat on a wooden stool, her posture perfect, hand scribbling across a large piece of parchment placed on the wooden desk facing the windows. The desk was the type that propped up, a lamp attached to the corner, and side table. Something an artist or engineer invested in.
“I thought I heard the raging pump of a heartbeat approaching.” Bella squeezed her eyes shut in embarrassment, letting out a small groan. Opening them when she heard the skid of the stool against the floor.
“Y/n,” Edward scolded, tone playful.
“Apologies, I couldn’t help myself,” Y/n chuckled, approaching the two with a wide smile. Bella held her breath, admiring the woman before her. Alice may have been the fashion girlie of the family, but there was no denying who she must’ve gotten it from.
Y/n made even the simplest of clothing look ethereal. White blouse tucked into beige trousers, brown belt with hints of gold, paired with stunning white heeled boots. The necklaces she wore were layered, the longest of which had several charms making them clink together, bracelets covering her wrists, three rings on each hand, and gold hoops. A multicolor scarf consisting of warm tones like red, orange, and yellow tied around her hair. Then of course, her eyes were melting gold.
She was the picture of an artist.
Upon closer inspection, Bella had to hold back a whistle at the ring reserved for her left ring finger. Carlisle sure had taste and made sure his lady got what she deserved. That was no ring. That was a rock.
“You must be the famous Bella,” Y/n’s hand shot out, Bella hesitating a moment before taking it. Y/n’s handshake was soft yet firm at the same time. Bringing a chill to Bella as their skin met. “It is truly a pleasure to meet you,” letting go of her hand, Y/n brought both of hers up to make a gesture. “I have been begging Edward to bring you around for weeks. I don’t know why it’s taken him so long,” a playful glare was directed at him.
Edward rolled his eyes, then put an arm around Bella. “Bella, this is Y/n. My mother for all intents and purposes. Artist, architect, and occasional therapist to all of us emotionally stunted immortal teenagers.”
“You said it, not me,” Y/n smirked, hands raised again.
Bella laughed, comforted by Edwards touch as she regarded Y/n. “It’s really nice to meet you, Y/n. Edward talks about you all the time.”
“Good things, correct?”
“Of course,” Bella assured, nudging Edward who had scoffed. “He mentioned you designed this house--it’s absolutely beautiful. And this--,” motioning to the space, Bella was again in awe of Y/n’s studio. It’s like she was walking through an exhibit in the Louvre. “Wow.”
“When I made the blueprints for this house, I wanted everyone to have a place--plus everyone was vocal about what they wanted,” she teases with a grin. “Carlisle has his study, Alice her closets, Rosalie wished for a garage, Jesper desired a library, Emmett a game room, Edward got his music room. And me,” a hand waves to the room with pride. “My studio.”
Bella raised an intrigued brow, aimed at Edward, “you have a music room?”
Had he been human, Edward would have blushed. He brushed it off with a shrug, “Yeah, it’s just where I keep a few instruments. I’ll show you as we go through the house.”
“A few,” Y/n lightly scoffed, earning a small glare from the boy.
“Carlisle said you’re working on a project,” he changed the subject, nudging his head toward the desk. Catching sight of the blueprints that were in the early draft stages.
“The high school plans to renovate the library, so they’ve asked me to go over some plans and designs. They were pleased with my work for the gym last year.”
Edward turns to Bella, “Y/n has the magic touch for designing and constructing. And because we’ve had the time to redo college over and over again….” They share a laugh, “she’s got degrees in art, engineering, design, and business on top of her architecture education.”
The woman simply shrugs, “I like to keep busy. Who wouldn't want to take advantage of obtaining all the world’s knowledge when you have eternity.” If she saw the pointed look Edward was giving her, Y/n ignored it.
“Anyway,” He sighed, returning his attention to Bella, “The town comes to her for consultations. And, in most cases than often, she designs and oversees the build.”
“Wow, that’s amazing,” Bella awed, past Edward’s shoulder she spotted the white construction worker's hat. Propped beside a coat hanger possessing a pair of overalls, scarves, and painters' boots. “Did you-,” her finger pointed to the display of artwork, “paint all those?”
“Several, yes,” Y/n motioned them to follow her, moving closer to the wall. “This one you might have guessed is the view of the forest from this room. The first one I did when we moved here. But not all are recent, some I did in the 90s--,” she pointed to a canvas framed with gold trimming near the top. Depicting an image of inside a medical tent, “That one is from when I volunteered for the Army Nurses Corps.”
Bella’s eyes bulged, glancing between Y/n and Edward. “You--you served during the War?”
Y/n nodded, expression now solemn, “First World War. We were living in Virginia at the time and therefore injured soldiers coming back from Europe docked at the bases there first. Carlisle was the trauma surgeon, and I was a nurse.” Her boots echoed against the wood as they strolled down. “We stayed there the duration of the war before settling in Chicago….”
“How long before he wakes up?”
“Not long,” Carlisle kept his eyes on the unconscious boy while his wife paced behind him. Had they been able to sweat they would’ve been drenched. “The venom transferred from his neck. The closest I could get to his heart--it should take less than a day.”
Y/n ran a hand through her neatly styled hair in distress. They’d only been in Chicago a few months. Arriving when the War ended and immediately joining the effort to combat the Spanish Influenza spreading through the population. With their current predicament, there was no way they could stay.
Ripping the nurses cap off, she asked, “What’s our next move then? We can’t stay here. This city is an endless potluck of people, and we don’t know how strong his urges will be,” she stopped pacing, coming beside her husband with a pleading gaze. “I know you said his parents are dead, but that doesn't mean he may not have family who’ll come looking for him. What kind of people are we to rip him from the ones who love him?” Upon the look she received, Y/n dropped her head, “Unless you mean to fake his death.”
Carlisle placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, “The boy had the influenza. They saw his condition--it was deteriorating. They’ll believe it took him in the night and his body was sent to the incinerators. Just like the others.”
Y/n sniffed, eyes welling with unshed tears. “I know, but…” she trailed off, “He’s a kid, Carlisle. We agreed that when it came time for us to save someone from death, it would not mean robbing them of their life--.”
“He was dying, Y/n,” his tone was firm, yet gentle. “I promised his mother we’d look after him.” Eyes flicker to Edward, then back to Y/n. While Carlisle hated himself for what he’d done, there was no going back now. “He’s our responsibility now. We’ve to teach him the ways of this life and make sure he copes with it. Not succumb to the darkness like we did.”
Another sound left her, Y/n taking a moment to process before nodding. “Okay,” she whispered, keeping her voice steady. “We take this day-by-day.”
“Day-by-day.”
“That’s when Edward….” Bella trailed, biting her lip when she realized it wasn’t the best idea to bring it up. Yet, she was surprised both the vampires nodded, understanding her implication. Instead, she said, “He mentioned you’ve been with Carlisle the longest….”
Like earlier with the doctor, Y/n visibly brightened at each time his name was said. “Will be two hundred years this fall.”
“Two--two hundred??” The human spluttered. Edward had failed to tell her that information. Only saying the two had been together long before Carlisle saved him.
Chuckling at Bella’s reaction, Y/n tucked a piece of stray hair back in its place. “The vampire who bit me didn’t stick around. Abandoning me. A few days later of endless wonder and unable to control my newfound appetite, Carlisle found me.” Her smile was so wide, bright white teeth bouncing off light. “It’s been quite a life ever since.”
They spent the next few minutes learning about the history of each painting. From the oil masterpiece of the New York Skyline to the charcoal portrait of Joan of Arc. Bella took time to admire the watercolor image of Carlisle. Donned in his white coat, hair and posture perfect.
“Ah yes,” Y/n hummed, beaming up at the canvas. “My personal favorite. Though I’m a little biased given the muse of this piece happens to be the muse of my soul.”
“Stay still.”
“I am.”
“No, you’re not,” Y/n berated, dipping the brush back into the golden color before continuing to paint Carlisle’s hair. “I know this is time consuming, darling, but it’s not like you haven’t done it before.”
“In my defense,” his hand raised, quickly putting it back in his lap when she groaned, “I’ve never technically sat for a portrait. The ones from Volterra were done while I wasn’t aware they were being painted.” A grimace took his features, remembering his time with the Volturi. “Aro preferred moments to be captured as they were happening in real time.”
Y/n threw him a look, shaking her head in the process. “Yeah, he seems like the type.”
“First and last time he got to play model,” she laughed at the memory. “Thanks to the creation of the camera I could develop a photograph and wallah!” her hands made a gesture, “A still image to use as reference. And now with cell phones….I don’t even have to put in the work to develop the photo. It’s right there!”
Initially Bella found her reaction to a camera phone a little odd. But then remembered Y/n was a 200+ year old vampire and literally witnessed the development and advancement of technology.
“But I don’t always create,” Y/n winked, stopping in front of a stunning work of a lily pond. “Sometimes I collect.”
Stepping closer, Bella inspected the art, finger on her lip as her brows furrowed in concentration. She’d seen it before. The familiarity of it was driving her brain into overdrive. Then it hit her, breath hitching, “Is that…A Monet?” Her confirmation nod made Bella nearly choke on her saliva. “How--?”
“Being alive 226 years and getting the privilege of traveling anywhere means I’ve had the pleasure of meeting interesting people,” her smirk was the type a movie villain showed that made the audience fall in love with them and brush away the fact they were a villain. A captivating sight. “One of those people happened to be Claude Monet during our time in France. Our shared love for art and nature brought a great friendship. I was actually with him when he painted this,” she casually said, aware of Bella’s astonished reaction despite her eyes trained on the canvas. “Unfortunately, Carlisle and I left before I got to see him finish. After he died several of his paintings went to museums or auctioned off. I made sure to acquire this one--took me about three years to find.”
After a moment of gawking, Bella gathered herself and moved onto the next piece. It really felt like they were in an art museum. Soon they came to the end of the gallery.
“You’re incredibly talented,” Bella praised, unable to take her attention off the marble sculpture enclosed in a glass case by the small bookshelf.
“Thank you. It’s nice to finally have someone to show this all too. Instead of just me admiring it daily.” Y/n put her hands in pockets, “Now I hate to kick you out, but if you’ll excuse me, I have a deadline to beat,” Y/n led them to the door, “and I’ll let you get back to your tour of the house. It was lovely to meet you, Bella, and please don’t be a stranger. Our door is always open for you.”
“I really appreciate it,” Bella smiled, standing beside Edward in the doorway, “It was great meeting you too.” A wave of a goodbye and promise to visit again, Y/n watched Edward escort his girlfriend up the staircase to the second floor. Leaning against the side, Y/n touched a finger to her lips, not bothering to hide the giant grin surfacing.
“I know that look.”
Despite speaking after Bella and Edward disappeared, Y/n felt Carlisle’s presence the second he breached the corridor. Not to mention the tingling sensation at the base of her spine.
Slowly turning to face him, her smile widened, and Carlisle saw the way her golden hues sparkled when he approached. “And what exactly is that look?”
“The one where you’re overcome with happiness unable to be measured with how much it consumes you.”
Hands took hold of her shoulders, gently brushing down until they reached her own, Y/n leaning into his touch, voice teasing, “What mother would I be to not be overjoyed for her son and the wonderful girlfriend he’s brought home?”
Carlisle chuckled, tilting his head down to place a kiss on her forehead. The floral aroma of her Marc Jacobs perfume amplified her already sweet scent. Oh, how addicted he was to her scent. It was like walking through a garden of the most beautiful flowers on Earth.
“You didn’t embarrass him, did you?”
Y/n rolled her eyes, tapping his chest to scold him, “Not much more than you lot. He was practically dragging Bella out of the kitchen.” Carlisle raised his hands in defense, making her raise a brow.
“That was all the kids. I’m innocent, my dear, you must believe me.”
She tsked, “Well, at least you didn’t scare the poor girl like Rosalie and Jasper. And as much as I love Alice’s excitement, you might want to tell her to take it down a notch,” Y/n made a face, “I thought we all agreed last night not to bring up Bella’s scent.”
She was met with a sigh, her sculptured-God of a husband dropping his head onto her shoulder in defeat. “What was I supposed to do? You left me to fend for myself.”
Laughing, Y/n reached her arms around his shoulders, encasing him in an embrace to which he greatly accepted. “I’m sorry, my love. Will you forgive me? I promise to find you the finest stag in all of Washington for you to feast upon.” Instantly his head shot up, moving it so their noses brushed against each other.
“That’ll do.” Their lips met, igniting fireworks throughout their bodies as it always had for 200 years. Never once losing the feeling.
They’d seen everything in the course of their century's long life. Several wars. Epidemics. The fall of countries and rise of new ones. Medicine advancing, technology overtaking man. The race to space and the rebirth of the Olympic Games.
Met people who’d changed the world. Witnessed humanity evolve--and sometimes wondered how the hell it could be so stupid. But overall, they were the stagnant figures in their plane of existence. Time moving, they remained still.
And yet, somehow, they were able to find a family after all.
When they pulled apart, their expressions of love remained. “God,” she hummed, “That never gets old.”
“Just like the first time?” He chafed, gold eyes glimmering.
Y/n pretending to think, lips pouting, “Less nervous,” a squeal escaped her at the feeling of his fingers tickling her ribcage. Shoving him away, the woman chided, “Get back to the hospital old man. There are patients to be seen, and I have a deadline to finish.” The gasp that left him made her grin.
“Old?! I’ll have you know that if I’m old then that means you are---.”
“Don’t you finish that sentence,” her finger pointed at his chest, “otherwise you’re sleeping on the couch.” Carlisle smirked, entering her personal space once again.
“I can’t sleep. Neither can you.”
“Damn,” she exhaled, feigning defeat when really, she was becoming more invested with their little game. “You’re right.” Then her eyes turned dark, sinister. Face consorting to a look that made Carlisle shudder.
A look he’d seen hundreds of times, and not once did not bring a chill to his already cold body. Enough to bring his heart back to life. Enough to send the frozen blood down to his spine.
“Guess we’ll have to find another way to pass the time.”

Songs that remind me of One Piece ships and why.
Lets start with:
Luffy x Boa - Addicted to you by Avicii
I think this songs describes Boa's obsession with luffy very well.
"You came into my crazy world Like a cool and cleansing wave Before I, I knew what hit me, baby You were flowing through my veins"
What can she do? It's Luffy :D
Sanji x Pudding - Stereo Love by Edward Maya and Vika Jigulina.
This song describes a bit the pain that Sanji went trough in Whole Cake Island, with Pudding's lies, yet he still tried to make it work. :(
"I can fix all those lies But baby, when I run, I'm running to you You won't see me cry, I'm hiding inside My heart is in pain but I'm smiling for you"
Usopp x Kaya - If you're not the one by Daniel Bedingfield.
Because in my heart, Usopp thinks about Kaya every sigle day and he loves her.
'Cause I miss you, body and soul so strong that it takes my breath away And I breathe you into my heart and Pray for the strength to stand today 'Cause I love you, whether it's wrong or right And though I can't be with you tonight You know my heart is by your side"
Robin x Law - Mirrors by Justin Timberlake.
Because of their similar past and personality. They have been trough a lot of pain, but Robin was healed in a way that Law wasn't yet, and In my delulu mind she can heal him.
"It's like you're my mirror My mirror staring back at me I couldn't get any bigger With anyone else beside me And now it's clear as this promise That we're making two reflections into one 'Cause it's like you're my mirror My mirror staring back at me Staring back at me"
Zoro x Tashigi - Another Love by Tom Odell.
Because the main reason why people ship them, is because zoro finds tashigi similar to Kuina, and it doesn't matter how their relationship will develop tbh, I think he will always see her as someone similar to Kuina.
"I wanna sing a song that'd be just ours But I sang 'em all to another heart And I wanna cry, I wanna fall in love But all my tears have been used up
On another love, another love All my tears have been used up On another love, another love"
Franky x Robin - We found love by Rihanna.
Because they met on a sea train on the way for their execution, and they did have some great moments there :)
"Yellow diamonds in the light Now we're standing side by side As your shadow crosses mine What it takes to come alive
It's the way I'm feeling I just can't deny But I've gotta let it go
We found love in a hopeless place"
Nami x Luffy - Believer by Imagine Dragons.
Because she was broken, but he made her a believer.
"I was broken from a young age Taking my sulking to the masses Writing my poems for the few That look at me, took to me, shook to me, feeling me Singing from heartache from the pain Taking my message from the veins Speaking my lesson from the brain Seeing the beauty through the...
Pain! You made me a, you made me a believer, believer"
Ace x Yamato - Thousand Years by Christina Perri.
Because Yamato was waiting for Ace to return, and he would still be waiting...
"I have died every day waiting for you Darling, don't be afraid I have loved you for a thousand years I'll love you for a thousand more"
Zoro x Sanji - One more night by Maroon 5.
Because they are always fighting :D If they are a thing, this is their song.
"You and I go hard At each other like we're going to war You and I go rough We keep throwing things and slamming the doors You and I get so damn dysfunctional we stop keeping score You and I get sick Yeah, I know that we can't do this no more, yeah
But baby, there you go again, there you go again making me love you Yeah, I stopped using my head, using my head"
Sanji x Nami - What are words by Chris Medina.
Because it doesn't matter where, when or how. Sanji will Always be there for nami.
"Anywhere you are, I am near Anywhere you go, I'll be there Anytime you whisper my name, you'll see How every single promise I'll keep 'Cause what kind of guy would I be If I was to leave when you need me most"
Zoro x Robin - She's crazy but she's mine by Alex Sparrow.
Because she's crazy, and he always saves her when she's in danger.
"The kinda girl who really loves to dance She loves to mess around with her friends Wanna know her now, wanna love her now I wanna make her be my girl She likes to give a smile to every stranger She loves to get her ass in any danger Wanna love her now, wanna love her now I wanna make her be my girl"
Hiyori x Zoro - Make you feel my love by Adele.
Because she fell in love for him in Wano and was always worried about him and took care of him when he was hurt, but he had to leave.
"When the rain is blowing in your face And the whole world is on your case I could offer you a warm embrace To make you feel my love
When the evening shadows and the stars appear And there is no one there to dry your tears I could hold you for a million years To make you feel my love
I know you haven't made your mind up yet But I will never do you wrong I've known it from the moment that we met No doubt in my mind where you belong"
Koala x Sabo - Can't help falling In love by Elvis Presley.
It's a simple yet beautiful song, as we haven't seen much about them, but I do think Koala couldn't help but falling in love with sabo. :)
"Take my hand Take my whole life, too For I can't help falling in love with you"
I probably forgot a lot of popular ships, tell me what you'd like me to write about next! Don't forget to give me your opinion and other songs for this ships!

@forthegothicheroine - the ask got deleted in a wild mishap, but here are the Which books I’d recommend to various Batman Villains! (thank you so much for this btw -- absolutely juicy question and I had a thrill imagining any scenario where I’d be in such a position as to be recommending them things!
Harley Quinn - Fingersmith by Sarah Waters, naturally! Things not appearing what they seem, the plot twists, the self-reclamation, the romance, overcoming abuse - I think she’d really enjoy it! Conversely, I think Zola’s Thérèse Raquin would speak to her and maybe help her process some things regarding her bad patterns in criminal relationships.
Poison Ivy - Gotta keep with the plants theme and give her The Weeds by Katy Simpson Smith, the tale of two women botanists from two different time periods whose entries framed around each type of plant and its uses explores a different theme/moment in their lives, usually relating to gendered violence and resilience to such. It’s even got a sapphic subplot, so really it’s made for her. Rumour has it that the Matt Reeves Batverse for her is planned to be inspired by Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Rappacini’s Daughter, which has me insanely excited -- so I’d throw that on the list as well. To switch gears from just the plants, I think that she’d really enjoy the sheer depth of devotion between women on display in My Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix.
Riddler - I feel like any mystery novel you give the guy is going to end in “I simply would have _____, RIP to [protagonist’s/antagonist’s name] But I, Edward Nygma/Nigma/Nashton Am Different”. Guy probably went into a full rage about how stupidly Franklin Clarke from The ABC Murders got caught after all the trouble he took with the puzzle-clues. after so I think I’d give him Walter Tevis’ The Queen’s Gambit since a lot of iterations show him having a fondness for chess (and the genuine skill in the writing), and Beth’s arc with difficult beginnings, addiction struggles, resilience and alienation would resonate with him if he ever would admit to it. I also think Gogol would suit him well; I see him enjoying the humour in short works like The Nose, but Dead Souls’ protagonist really suits him as a trickster conman who entertains the possibility of doing better.
Scarecrow - Oh, this is the big one. Hardest one on the list, because Crane’s probably the best-read on the list considering his original motive of wanting to heist money to fund getting books, and his Year One backstory working this into his horrific childhood probably cemented this, so odds are he’s read most of them already, especially the classics! But I did like the suggestion in your fic The Most Poetical Topic he hasn’t read Stephen King’s Carrie, since that’s the shoo-in. I do think he’d also get a kick out of Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s works for modern gothics - Mexican Gothic and the use of the spores is up his alley in particular! Lindqvist‘s Let the Right One In with the cute little murder couple of vampire kids who absolutely obliterate bullies and find connection in being outsiders is probably his wish fulfilment jam, let’s be real. And because I’m me, I’d also insist on him reading The Moth Diaries by Rachel Klein because it’s essential reading imo and the psychological horror “is there a vampire or is it untreated grief and mental illness” plotline would tickle him.
Two-Face - Handing him a copy of Phantom of the Opera is probably a great way to get him to flip the coin on whether he’s shooting you or drowning you, so I’d say I’d get Harvey some more legal-related literature. He’s probably a fan of Atticus Finch, so hand him a better John Grisham, a good Perry Mason tale, or Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities especially. And of course, Dumas’ Count of Monte Cristo. We’re counting on you, Harv!!!
Penguin - Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Suskind was all but made for Oswald, especially the more grotesque iterations. It practically feels like proto-Burton!Oswald, although most iterations could probably get a lot out of the themes of abandonment and difficulty, the grotesque, and the ebb and flow of affections and power depending on one’s usefulness. The protagonist is even named after an animal to signify unwantedness!! But privately, I think Oswald likes his cozy mysteries too.
Mr. Freeze - The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery -- really, hear me out, because while the book is only directly about grief and a new lease on life at the end, there’s the grief throughout for a life not lived, and I think he’d enjoy its little quotidian charms and the way it speaks of finding appreciation while you’re here. Otherwise, I’d say Terry Pratchett’s Nation, which is one of the other most immensely powerful explorations of grief. It also involves quite a few scientists for his bias!!
Mad Hatter - Lewis Carroll’s works are his bread and butter, but I’d be very curious to see his thoughts on The Screwtape Letters. Otherwise I think I’d have to hand him a copy of The Stepford Wives with a sticky-note foreword of: “THIS IS A CAUTIONARY TALE, NOT AN INSTRUCTION MANUAL”.

Backstory: Edward "Eddie" Delkins was born to a "happy" married couple named Millie and Jacob Delkins.  He had two siblings. An older brother named Terrance and a two-year younger sister named Elle. His parents always expected a lot from him but hey, he still loved them. He revealed he was trans when he was 6 but of course his parents didn't like that, but his siblings accepted him and helped him go through treatment. When the outbreak happened, he was in his room, reading until he heard his older brother yelling. When he went to check what was going on, he saw two zombies eating his mom. He   lets out a horrific scream as his brother practically threw him, his sister's bunny Fluffball, the family dog Rofee and his sister into the van and drove off. They soon find Pedro who raises them like his own children. In season 5, the Delkins siblings and their dad were reunited. Elle and Eddie had their suspicions and didn't trust him but Eddie pretended to so he could get the truth from him. Once Eddie and his dad were alone, Eddie's dad told him about his plan to wipe out the survivors and demanded him to join them, even guiltripping him but Eddie refused, causing his dad to go off the edge. He soon went  to the survivors and attacked them with the Fireflies. But the fight stopped when Eddie shot his dad. And the rest is history :D

He was so just so cool man don't sweat it. Then there was fucking Marcel who was literally just Marcel from The Best Song Ever music video. That's it. But they made him Marcel Styles who was the loveable nerd of the 3 who has never felt the loving touch of a woman.

Christmas Eve Magic
Who: Perrie Edwards ( @perrielouxo ) and Mason Mount. What: They discuss the event of their earlier encounter in the month. When: Christmas Eve, 24th December 2024. Where: Perrie's gaff.
Mason: Entering Perrie's house with his infectious grin, and a standard warming hug, it felt no different than any of their previous welcomes — the only thing different was the unspoken moment they had encountered a week and half before. A little friendly banter whilst preparing their dinner, left Mason to playfully tickle the blonde's waist and then moments later their lips were moving in synchronization against the others. Was the kiss meant to happen? Did it mean their connection was more than a friendship, or did it mean their friendship was potentially jeopardized altogether? These were all thoughts that had run through Mason's mind since the last time he had seen Perrie — the time seemed to drag, knowing answers would likely be confirmed. With Axel running riot the last time they saw, a conversation would be mush easier to navigate now, with just the two of them. Mason had excused himself to change into pajamas to match his friend and then stopped by the kitchen to make them both a hot chocolate, with a hint of his favourite festive Baileys. "Do you think I suit the pjs?" Mason's voice called out as he made his way from the kitchen back to the living room, finding the small coffee table and settle the hot mugs down. Now the presents were all set under the tree, Mason guessed the rest of the evening may be more chilled, or at least he hoped soon would be the best time to bring up the conversation he'd been wanted to really have. "Is there anything else you'd like my assistance with tonight?
Perrie: Between the Christmas preparations, time in the studio finishing off her album and overthinking that sweet kiss she'd shared with Mason, it had been a long week for Perrie. While nothing had felt more natural than sharing an intimate moment with someone who had been her rock for the longest time, she didn't know what any of it meant. They had been friends for so long, and he was her son's godfather after all. Why all of a sudden she was starting to see him in a new light? Perrie wasn't even sure what had led to kiss, everything just before and just after felt like a blur. The kiss, that she remembered vividly and couldn't stop replaying in her head. They were both hopeless romantics, and had been unlucky in love before, so perhaps it was just two lonely people craving a little affection during the holidays. Honestly, she had been running herself mad imagining every possible scenario and that's why she hadn't been able to ask him what it meant. Yeah, yeah, she knew she'd been a coward not to reach out but since he hadn't either, she figured once again they were in the same boat. By the time it was Christmas Eve, their previously planned hangout, she had almost managed to convince herself it meant nothing and she was doing the most for something that wasn't that big of a deal, like usual. Mason was just going to walk through the door and everything would be as it always was. Holiday PJ's, presents to be exchanged, and the same banter they were known for. "You look like you were born to wear them PJ's. I'm appalled that they're not part of your everyday wardrobe," Perrie laughed, straightening the bow in her head. "I made so much Christmas food yesterday, that all I really need is someone to sit with on this sofa and do nothing with. Been a long month," she sighed, accepting the hot chocolate with a grateful smile. "Mmm, however feel free to keep these drinks coming. This is delicious, Mount."
Mason: "Shall I give my stylist the elbow and hire you? How much you saying an hour?" As usual, Mason harmlessly joked. Taking a step backwards, Mason crossed his arms across his chest and posed almost as if he was in a photoshoot, soon a laugh breaking from his lips. Christmas Eve this year was different for the male — usually at this time he'd have made his way down to Portsmouth already to spend the evening with his family, helping his nieces get ready for Santa. The magic of Christmas Eve was warming to him, especially in the presence of the younger girls who made this time of the year that little bit better. Thankfully, his family were arriving in Manchester the following morning, so it gave Mason the time to visit Perrie and still drive back early in the morning to prepare for their arrival. It was a good alternative to his usual yearly routine, but also it meant he could spend some proper time with Perrie. This way he also knew she wasn't spending the evening all on her own. After her words, Mason understood his assignment for the evening and took it upon himself to flop his body down against the sofa. "You have had a long month," He agreed, as he looked back over to her. "Proud of you though, but you already know that." Or he hoped she already knew that, he thought to himself.
Perrie:"My rates are very reasonable. My consulting fee if a roast dinner and I believe that's terribly fair in today's economy," Perrie banters back, relieved that everything seems to be normal between them. "I bet some male models are damn glad you chose football and aren't coming for their necks," she chuckles, as she watches him pose. Mason wanting to spend his Christmas Eve with her was another incredibly thoughtful gesture and seemed like he was always going above and beyond for her - something she wasn't used to with other people. "Not just me. You're back playing regularly, reckon your schedule is more hectic than mine these days." She shot him a sympathetic look, reaching out to squeeze his knee in a conforting gesture. "I know you are, and always want to keep making you proud, Mount. Aside from my immediate family, you're easily my biggest supporter and I don't know how to thank you for any of it." Perrie had always prided herself on being hyper independent and not needing to rely on anyone else but having his support still meant the world to her. "I have to ask you something. I debated not bringing it up, but you know me. I can't ever let sleeping dogs lie..." Her voice trails off and Perrie turns to face him, she wants to see his reaction. "That kiss. In your kitchen. About 240 hours ago. Yes, I did the math, don't judge me."
Mason: Perrie always matched his level of banter and jokes, it was one of the qualities he did most appreciate in her. After all, in his mind, laughter was the best medicine. If he made Perrie laugh at least once in the time they spent together each time, then that was a win in his eyes. "I ain't got nothing on some of these model, even if I do have my attempts at the job." Every time he male did have some photoshoots, he did make the most of his time in front of the cameras, but he knew there was no career which came with it. Her hand against his knee was comforting, but nobody would hear Mason complain, especially when it came to being back on the pitch on a more frequent basis. "A little bit hectic, but nothing I haven't prepared for over the last twenty or so years. Your guy embraces the hectic.. sometimes." Some people could often forget how early these sports personalities began training as a professional, Mason being as young as six when he was signed for Chelsea's academy. The footballer has all of the time in the world for Perrie, and he tried to make it known over the years they had known each other, only ever wanting her to know he was never further than phone call away should she ever need it. "You never have to thank me for it, believe it or not, you do just as much as me. You answer my call every time I phone, and that's all I'll continue to ask for." Mason was a guy of simple nature, and he didn't need Perrie to be going out of her way for him. The girl had a way with her words, and again she came out with a phrase he'd never heard of, but it made him laugh just the same. He was kind of glad she asked him about the kiss first, even though he was gathering the courage and gauging the vibes first before he would bring it up. And yet she beat him too it. Raising his hands, he shook his hands, "No judging," He chuckled, and couldn't help himself. But the chuckle was only brief, knowing the conversation needed a level head and maybe not so many laughs."But yeah.. it was a bit random, weren't it?.. But I liked it." But I liked it? What sort of words were they to describe a kiss? His eyes darted for a moment before finding hers again. "I mean, it felt good. I don't know about you, but it felt right." Mason went on, opening up about how he felt about their encounter. "I'd have reached out sooner, but it's not really a fair conversation to have over the phone or text." He was quick to add, not wanting her to think he was purposely avoiding her.
Perrie: Perrie had an oddball sense of humour – something Mason matched perfectly. She could be silly and ridiculous and never felt judged by that. ”You’re a rotten liar. You know you’re fit and that’s why you keep saying yes to all them endorsement deals. You do more modelling than some actual models,” Perrie says with rolled eyes, giving him a mock-stern look, but the hand on his knee remains soft. ”Being prepared doesn’t mean it doesn’t get to you at times. Especially since you got to be away from family over the holidays. I know you got a sick work ethic but being away all the time is hard. I know Alex suffers a lot from not seeing Axel regularly, even if football is his real first love and passion.” Perrie understood the struggle and that was one of the reasons why she felt so thankful for everything Mason did for her. He was the epitomy of ’if he wanted to, he would’ and the blonde felt lucky to have a friendship like that in her life. ”I know we talk about this often, but I think it’s important that you know how much I appreciate you. Life is so short, and words of affirmation are one of my love languages.” It was scary, bringing up the kiss, because what if this was the first time they wouldn’t be on the same page about something? However, it lingered on the back of her mind and she knew she wouldn’t be able to stop overthinking until they talked about it. ”One of your most attractive traits – the no judgement thing,” she quipped, readying herself to whatever the outcome of the talk would be. The confirmation that he had liked it and didn’t regret it filled her with a lot of hope. ”Random is properly the best word for it. Out of the blue, something I never thought about before, but...I liked it too.” She moved her hand from his knee and joined their fingers together as she continued. ”I don’t blame you for not talking via text. Too scary to talk about without seeing your reaction face to face. Nothing gets lost in translation,” she smiled softly, her bright blue eyes looking directly at him. ”So, where does it leave us now?”
Mason: The footballers shoulders shrugged, maybe there was a sense of truth to her words, but he liked to try and keep humble. "You know these camera people have some proper mad skills. They could make just about anybody look pretty decent in some shots." It was another diversion to actually admitting, as she said it, that he was fit, but also another jokey comment where he maybe didn't give himself enough credit. "I get the situation Alex is in right now.. when I was out in Holland for a year, it was one of the hardest things I'd done. But also the best things, you know? It's work and like you say the first passion. I'm glad I'm still here in the UK though, makes it easier when I do miss family and friends. Thankfully, I've got some pretty decent people around me, who miss me just as much as I miss them." Mason chuckled lightly at this last comment, Perrie was included in that category. It was good to now completely understand that one of Perrie's love languages was words of affirmation, as if they were about to spent more valuable time together, it was something he could add more into their time together. "Thank you.. also, your love language has been noted." Mason always loved to learn new things about the blonde, even if they were the smallest of things that he's not picked up on during the course of their friendship. There she was again, paying him more compliments. It seems she did this a lot more in recent weeks, and although they were also nice to hear, Mason didn't also know how to respond or react. Therefore, he usually added in some type of joke and a laugh, "Don't get me wrong, I might laugh if it's something silly, but never any judgement." But he could also go right back to giving the person his full attention and more mature side. His brown hues diverted towards their hands as Perrie linked their fingers - a sense of comfort about their touch. The edges of his lips tugged to a smile as she also liked the kiss they had shared. As she asked thee question, Mason's eyes flickered back up to her, and that's when he released her piercing blue eyes were looking directly at him. He found himself holding eyes contact for a moment before speaking again, "I think there's a connection here that we should possibly explore? I'm not saying we should be together right away... unless that's what you want, then I think I'd be a pretty great boyfriend, but I think there's a door which has been slightly opened, that we should walk through?" Mason nearly lost himself again as he trailed off about being a great boyfriend, but brought himself back swiftly he thought. He wanted to explore with Perrie, but also wanted to see her thoughts. He knew she had been hurt and a lot in the past, and he never wanted to bring her anymore pain, nor put her in a situation where he thought she would be uncomfortable. "Maybe I should start by taking you on a date after Christmas?" Mason suggested, as his thumb brushed over her fingers.
Perrie: ”You can keep on being humble, but as your friend, it’s my duty to give you kudos when you’re not giving them to yourself. There’s a reason why half the women in this country go feral when you play for the national team,” she scolds, her tone undoubtedly fond. ”I think he’s going to try getting signed by a UK team next season. It’ll be good for Axel to have him around more but selfishly, it also means I’ll be giving up a lot more time with him and I hate it,” Perrie mused, biting the inside of her cheek. She wanted her son to have the best possible life but she also always missed him terribly whenever he wasn’t home. ”Do you think you’d ever sign with another team outside the country? I know lots go to America to play for a season or two, because that’s good exposure and the money is good.” Perrie was used to missing people due to hectic schedules and while she would never begrudge Mason from doing anything that was beneficial to the career he loved so dearly, she also recognized she would hate to lose him. ”I have two big ones – words of affirmation and physical touch. That was probably easy to guess,” Perrie grins, the hand on his knee staying put. Complimenting Mason came easy, the man was just so damn likable and had been an instrumental part of her life for so long. However, with the kiss, she had reflected a lot about her behaviour around him as of late. Had she been flirting with him and not realize the extent of it? ”You’re my person – you’ve never ever judged me about anything and it’s partly why I always feel so safe with you. Even at my lowest or silliest.”She listened to him intently, as he spoke of the kiss and what could be and gosh, she’d not felt that hopeful in the longest time. Her history in relationships was checkered at best – between Zayn leaving her via text message and then growing apart from Alex when she’d been at her lowest while postpartum, so putting her trust in something new wasn’t the easiest thing Perrie had ever done. However, this was Mason – the man that had been nothing but good to her and had never done anything to make her doubt his friendship and affection. ”Boyfriend, huh?” She giggled softly, almost feeling like a teenager again. ”Out of respect for our long friendship, maybe this is something we need to ease into? However, that kiss was the most alive I’ve felt in a long time and I went to bed that night with little butterflies. Is that daft to admit?” She leans closer to him, putting her head on his shoulder and it feels like the most natural thing, like this was how it was supposed to be. ”I would love that. Wine me, dine me, Mount.”
Mason: "At least he'll have both his parents near by, and you get more support, like you deserve. You've been doing a lot of it solo and you deserve the help. Especially from his dad." Mason has no bad words to say about Alex, in fact they'd play golf together, or gamed at random times. He just saw and always has a closer friendship with Perrie. Mason's shoulders drew into a long shrug, his own football career was something he dreaded even thinking about at the moment. "I don't know, I did really enjoy my time out in Holland but I was younger, and just starting out. Trying to get my name out there a lot more. But I missed home, and my family and friends." Mason began. "I, along with so many others, would like to say it's not all about the money, but it helps, I guess. I just want to be able to play in first team football regularly and as long as possible, and ideally I'd like to stay closer to home. But who knows Pez. The way I'm going, probably fucked my career completely. Sometimes wish I never left Chelsea, but that's another ball ache in itself." Mason hated moping and feeling sorry for himself, but between their unspoken kiss and then the next day getting injured again on the pitch, it had been a very long week and a half for him. However, it felt good to be called her person, and to him it felt very natural too, causing his features to light up. "Never change, will you!" Mason quickly added after her observation. Mason was no way expecting them to end that night in a committed relationship, in fact he didn't expect anything, however the way she giggled gave him hope that it was maybe a conversation to be had at a later time. That they could maybe become something. He chuckled at her reactions, a rush of excitement only flowing through his anatomy as he realized there was mutual feelings involved. Mason only ever wanted Perrie to be happy, and to know their kiss gave her butterflies, even when she got into bed that night, it made him feel good. To know he was part of the reason she went to bed feeling like an excited school girl. "Not daft at all, it's actually a little bit cute." Mason began, feeling content as she leaned up against him. "You've mainly been the only thing I've been thinking about all week honestly." Between his injury and the physio he had been participating in once again, it felt like this moment was a bit of light at the end of a dark tunnel. Like there was something to look forward too again. His head rested gently against hers as his mind began thinking little date ideas, a sense of nervousness hitting him as he realized he really did want to try and impress the blonde. "This may be a longshot, but do you think I'd be able to get another kiss before our date? Or am I going to have to work for the next one?" Not wanting to put so much pressure on her, Mason thought it was best to sneak the question in before making a move and leaning in to kiss her. Although he felt hopeful, he wouldn't be disappointed should she want to wait, respectful of any boundaries Perrie may have had.
Perrie: ”Alex is a really good dad, and Axel adores him. I’m just having a little trouble letting go, which I’m working through. Co-parenting is hard, even when you’re on the best of terms and seeing him go off with his dad for a week hurts my mama heart, even when I know he’s going to have the best time,” Perrie confessed, knowing she could be open and vulnerable with Mason. He had always understood her, even about things she was afraid to say out loud to anyone else. Through her years with Alex, Perrie liked to think she had a good understanding of how the footballing world worked, and she knew how much Mason had struggled with everything for the last few years, so she wanted to be as supportive of him as possible. ”In Holland, you had less distractions, both in the good and the bad. Less familiar support but also none of the bullshit that goes around the UK media and the fan scrutiny.” The way people tore into footballers for a bad game in England never sat right with her but it was part of the culture wouldn’t ever change for the better. ”In the end, you have to do what’s right for you. Money isn’t everything but it makes a lot of things easier. Being trusted to lead the team doesn’t hurt either, especially since you’ve not been given that opportunity at Manchester. Plus all the injuries, which must be so demoralizing. Speaking off, how’re you feeling? Do I have to come put you in bubble wrap the next time you’re going to be playing?” Perrie had heard about the injury as soon as it had happened, as even when things were confusing for them, she always kept up with what was going on with him. She worried for him, but also recognized he was a fully grown man who had been through it with football and the last thing he needed then was her fussing over him. ”I don’t think it’s possible for me to change how I am, so this is the version of me you’re going to be stuck with for life, Mount.” Perrie had loved Mason as a friend for so long that it was going to take a minute for her to wrap her brain around all these new, unexpected feelings but having him this close felt beyond good, and beyond natural. No awkwardness, and no uncertainly – she knew where she stood with him and there was no push-pull, which was a first. ”For a long time, I thought maybe relationships needed to be difficult to be worth it. That there needed to be some sort of drama to keep things fresh and exciting, but perhaps that was just me justifying staying in situations that weren’t good for me, because being alone felt like an even worse option.” Perrie was a relationship person and she’d only really learned to be alone after her split with Alex. Now though, this would be the first time she’d be starting to explore a relationship because of genuine connection and not because she didn’t want to be alone. ”You sure know how to make a girl feel special. Just so you know I’ve been thinking about you too. Pretty much every other hour since that kiss happened, so I’m real glad everything wasn’t just in my head.” All the nerves she’d been feeling had all but disappeared and she was left with feeling happy and content, her head resting against Mason. ”As much as the idea of making you work for it tickles me, I’ve been dying to kiss you again and I’m not sure I could wait for an official date.” Perrie moves her head and leans in to capture Mason’s lips on hers, kissing him gently. Their first kiss had been far-too brief and this time, she wanted to take her time. This was completely new territory for them but his lips on hers felt like heaven and she never wanted the kiss to end.
Mason: Although Mason couldn't relate to the feelings Perrie must have been going through, he tried to understand her as best he could. "Your doing good though, even if you're still finding it hard. You know exactly where I am though if you need a distraction when he's not around. Even if you're wanting to drop into the training grounds." Not only was he Axel's godfather, but he'd always offer himself as a support system for Perrie should she ever need it. "Would you have another or is it too difficult?" Mason wasn't sure what made him ask that question, but was curious to know if she did want another child now Axel was growing older. Perrie was right, in ways there were less distractions whilst he was abroad, but he also knew his dream was to play in the premiere league for as long as he could "UK media and paparazzi's in general are something different overall." He knew it wasn't just his profession who had to deal with the after bites of the media. Mason knew his contract with United wasn't coming to an end for another four years, with an option to extend for one year. And although knowing things could always change, at this moment he wasn't worried about making them kind of decisions. "Any decision is a difficult one, but hopefully it won't be for a while," he started, before his head fell back to land against the back of the sofa. For the first couple of days after being subbed off in the first thirteen minutes, Mason found himself a bit of a recluse. Leaving the house for only walking his dog and physio, but then after feeling sorry for himself for a couple of days too long, he pulled himself back up and became more social, knowing it was best for him to get back to feeling himself mentally. "Yeah, think you should wrap me in bubble wrap for the rest of my life," He groaned to begin with. It wasn't as if he didn't want to speak about the injury, he was always open to the people closest to him, but he didn't want to think too much about it and his mood potentially ruin their Christmas Eve together. He was still feeling bitter. Head turning to look back towards her, "I just landed funny again, and it repulled the same injury. Nobody's fault but bad luck." He explained to her, his shoulders shrugging a bit after his words. "Not sure when I'll be back, but maybe it does mean I'll have more time over Christmas." In some ways, it was a blessing he'd have some more time, but also he did always want to be back out on the pitch. With this new potential relationship blooming, maybe it would give them some more time to together to really see if this was something they wanted to explore properly. Mason knew everything she had been through, and none of it she deserved. "Relationships shouldn't be drama. They're not always going to be easy, but drama? Pft..." Shaking his head, he didn't believe that should have ever been the case. It felt good that they were on the same wave length, refreshing that they could speak about their feelings openly, and also to know that he hadn't been the only one thinking about the kiss throughout the course of the week. For a moment he thought he was going to have to work for their next kiss, but then she continued with her words and Mason was happy to hear her answer. He didn't realize his lips began to pull upwards, and then their lips connected. Leaning into the embrace too, Mason wanted to enjoy every second of this, and also wanted Perrie to do the same. Wanting to the savour the moment too, he allowed his lips to move in synchronization with hers at a slow pace. His hand rose to slowly push a strand her of blonde hair behind her ear before it rested gently against her lower neck lightly.
Perrie: ”I wouldn’t say no to a distraction, at least until I get used to him being away. Watching handsome lads running around a pitch isn’t the worst way I could be spending my days,” Perrie chuckles, grateful for Mason once again reading her so expertly. ”I would love to have more kids, if it was with the right person and the timing was right. Being Axel’s mum is my favourite thing in the whole world and I would love to give him a sibling or two.” She loved motherhood with all of her being, and the happiest part of her day was when she could spend quality time with Axel. Mason handled the scrutiny a lot better than a lot of people she knew but it still wasn’t easy to see people tearing you down for the smallest of things, especially when it came to his career. ”I swear they hire the most heinous people to be paparazzi, or maybe the job but rots them on the inside, who knows.” She had her own bad experiences of being hunted by the ”press” in this country and her distaste for them was evident. ”I just hope in the years that you have left on your contract United realises what they have in you. No one’s more dedicated, passionate and a true team player.” Perrie had been around long enough to have seen the effects his professional struggles had had on Mason, it had chipped away some of that sparkle in his eyes and she absolutely hated it. ”If you think I won’t, you have another thing coming. You’re far too precious to me. Probably a good thing I wasn’t at the game the other day, making a scene and all that,” she said fondly, and she wasn’t being hyperbolic. She was a worrier and a caretaker and rode fiercely for the people in her life. ”How’re you feeling? Are you in pain? Have they given you any idea how long the rehab process will be?” She’s tempted to make a joke about being very willing to nurse him back to health but bites her tongue, for now. Perrie’s schedule for the start of the new year was still much up in the air, but with Mason not being able to play, she was selfishly glad it meant they’d have time to figure out what was happening between them and nurture the change in their relationship. ”I know that now but took a lot of trial and error to get to that point. I’m the best version of me I can be right now though and any relationship moving forward will be much healthier and has a better foundation to it.” It was perhaps too early to lay all the cards down on the table, it nonetheless felt good, and filled her with hope that they seemed to agree on all important points. The kiss remains sweet for a period, their lips working in unison and those same little butterflies she’d felt after their first kiss had returned in full force. His hands were soft against her skin and Perrie couldn’t help the shivering at the touch. One thing she had wondered about during her many hours of overthinking was if they would have sexual chemistry and the longer the kiss went, the more she was sure they would have no problem in that area. By the time she pulls away, Perrie is breathless and left wanting more, but also recognizes that they have agreed to take things slow. ”As much as I liked the first kiss, this one was definitely better. Much better.”
Mason: Mason encouraged the female's humour, however shook his head slightly, "Make sure to let me know in good time when you're coming though. I'll need to find some real decent camouflage to put you in. Don't need none of them boys stealing my girl." He laughed alongside her. He hadn't even notice the slip of the tongue of calling her his girl, and although they discussed not rushing into anything, the transition from them being good friends to more seemed easier than he first anticipated. It was also good to get her brief thoughts on having more children in the future, Mason knowing he wanted to start a family of his own in the future sometime. It also gave him confidence that if they did work out long term, the conversation would be a pretty easy one to bring up. He smiled warmly in her direction, "I'm glad the hard work and passion shows, thanks for seeing that and also mentioning it. Sometimes you wonder if it's being picked up." He appreciated her words. She always said the right things at the right time, and already he felt a little better about the situation he was currently in. His earlier smile turned into a grin, having no doubt that she would in fact wrap him in bubble wrap. "The medics would have found you entertaining. But probably a shout you not being there this time round. I was not in a good mindset at all, was not great to be around." Mason could admit he was probably difficult to deal with once he came off and the days afterwards, but it was to be expected. "It hurts here and there, got some creams and exercises too work on at the minute. They think a couple weeks maybe, but they don't set a timeframe, not after the prolonged injury time last time. If anything it's the mental struggle of not being good enough, and my body failing me over. If I'm struggling now at 25, it's not such a good sign." Mason hated to admit the mental struggle, however thought there could be no real harm in letting Perrie into his authentic thoughts now. After all, she did ask him how he was feeling, and sounded interested in the real answer to that question. "Love that you're the best version of yourself currently. You can seriously tell too, you've been glowing recently, girl." Mason didn't just tell her thing like that now their feelings has been exposed, but he was always her biggest supporter and noticed the changes throughout her journey. He always made it know when he was proud of her. Whilst the kiss lingered, Mason was able to enjoy embrace this moment a lot more than their first brief kiss — their unspoken feelings at the time now having been discussed made the kiss more meaningful and less confusing, allowing for a more natural and mutual touch of affection. Mason was almost disappointed as Perrie's head moved away, but his eyes were light after her words. "You're right. But I'd say the only thing wrong with our last kiss was it didn't last long enough." As far as first kisses went, theirs hadn't been a terrible one, and Mason enjoyed it a lot. He remembered thinking at first, if that had been their first kiss, then ones to follow only had potential to be much more passionate and intense. Mason leant forwards again, allowing his lips to press against Perrie's again, however this was for only a lingered peck. Appreciating they were not rushing into anything more, but Mason also wanting to show his affection when he could. "It's going to be a pretty great end to a pretty average year. Already can't wait to take you out." Mason thought out loud, however did feel this was a pretty good way to end a year of career heartbreak and misery. Something new to look forward to and focus on.
Perrie: Mason calling her his girl makes her feel warm all over and she can’t help smiling like an idiot about it, even if it was probably just an accident. ”Should I wear your shirt and other merch when I come to the game next? So everyone will know who I’m there for?” She teases, but wouldn’t mind decking herself out completely in his merch. It would get people talking but she didn’t really care. They were both single and free to do as they pleased. Having more kids felt like a faraway thought for now but if life ever put them in a position to have some, she wouldn’t be able to pick a better father for those kids than Mason. He was a thoroughly supportive and loving figure in Axel’s life and would one day be a terrific dad himself. ”You’ve delt with a lot of setbacks in the last few years but you’ve stayed consistently motivated and dedicated, which isn’t an easy thing. I don’t think your efforts have gone unnoticed, and if they have, people just haven’t paid enough attention.” Perrie always genuinely wanted to know what was going on with Mason – both in the good and the bad. Nothing was off-limits between them and nothing he could ever say or do to make her think less of him, that was not how their relationship worked. ”You’re also allowed to be grouchy or in a bad headspace when you deal with injuries. If you ever need time to yourself, I won’t take it personally and I’ll stop hovering. Just say the word, yeah?” Perrie knows the feeling of not being good enough and she hates that those thoughts ever cross Mason’s mind, especially when he’s such a talented player. ”You’ve had a string of bad luck but it doesn’t mean you don’t still have it. You’ve been under a lot of pressure and I’m a firm believer that the added mental load you’ve been carrying around played a part in that injury. You will get back on the pitch soon enough and you’re gonna knock everyone’s socks off. Also let me know if you need any help with those stretches or lathering on that cream – it’ll be my pleasure to help out any way I can.” Perrie gives him a flirty grin, hand sliding a little higher on his leg. Perrie is a natural flirt, and now that they’ve established that there’s something between them, she feels totally comfortable letting that side of her out. ”You were a big help too. Even when we were nothing but friends, you showed me what unconditional affection felt like. You were always there for us, but never asked anything of me in return and that meant the world to me,” Perrie explained with a soft smile. She knew she didn’t need to thank him but she wanted to, as he’d been a big part of this journeywith her. It would’ve been so easy to get lost in these kisses, he was warm and so skilled that it made her toes curl, and she couldn’t remember the last time she’d felt anything like this with another person. ”Good answer. That first one felt like a question mark – a what if, if that makes any sense? Now though, I could sit here all night kissing you and never get tired of it. Can’t remember the last time I’ve been rendered speechless by a kiss, so good job, Mount,” she teases and relishes the little peck he gives her. On a whim moves to straddle him on the sofa, the new angle giving her the opportunity to wrap her arms around his shoulders and press herself closer to him. ”What are you doing on New Years? If you don’t have too many plans, you could take me out then? Alex has Axel this year and I think I would rather like ending 2024 with you and kissing you when the ball drops at midnight.” They were heading into a new year together and it filled her with such optimism. She had a gut feeling next year was going to be much better for everyone, especially since they would be together for it.
Mason: The male's head was quick to nod, "Defo should. Just let me know if you need me to grab any new merch. I got you." There was a thing most footballers were on the same page about, and that was somebody they had feelings for wearing their personalized merchandise, especially just their shirt and Mason couldn't help but briefly imagine her in his. Mason was at least glad that Perrie could see his efforts to remain positive, and it gave him hope that others could too. Every time over the last two years he had gotten injured, he was more dedicated in getting himself back to full fitness, even as hard and soul destroying as it always felt to begin with — nobody did well with the rehab side of anything. He appreciated Perrie's words, and glad that she could understand should he ever need some time to himself when it came to injuries. He nodded after her words, "Yeah," he hummed. "Sometimes I say I want space, but really I just don't want to rub the bad mood onto others, you know. And all I really want it to just lay off the mood, with a hug." He continued, not exactly hinting at all, but also giving the blonde a potential insight for any future situations. The good thing about Mason was, he thankfully didn't have injury strops, as he didn't see the point in bringing himself down for unnecessary amount of times. Even at the lowest of times, he tried to remain his usual infectious bubbly self. Mason always had to remind himself of his worth on the pitch, and continued to work hard at recovery. Anything that came his way was for a reason, and he was a firm believer of that. Eyes brightened slightly at her words, but also her hand sliding higher against his leg. The thought of her hands smothering the cream, even only against his leg, causing his feet to wriggle slightly. "I'll bare that in mind. Might wake you nice and early before I leave, to give me that hand." He didn't want to come across as too fond of the idea, but also wanted to show her that she had caught his attention somewhat. Mason was a big on touch, believing it only helped with any sexual tension to come — whether the relationship was just a month fresh, or ten years in. They had these type of conversations before, where Mason announced he didn't need her to thank him so often, but accepting that it would make her happy. He looked at her fondly, like he did every other time, "Always." His voice was lower this time, almost like a whisper, however he meant it — never did he need anything in return from Perrie, however it was nice to know his efforts were appreciated and also reciprocated from time to time. "Speechless, oh wow. I've really outdone myself now.." There was a hint of sarcasm in the male's voice as she joked, and then allowed a chuckle to escape the edges of his lips. However, he could get on board with her comment, and the thought of embracing her with kisses all night did sound rather inviting to him. "Although, you could sit here all night and kiss me, I wouldn't be opposed to it." And now Perrie was straddling him, it seemed even the better position to do so should they want too, however Mason had been mindful that they already discussed taking things slow before putting a label on them, and that was probably a little more on his mind than he cared to admit. He didn't want her to think that he just wanted her for the physical side of things, but wanted her to know first that he was in it emotionally too. With that in mind, and noticing how confidently she was moving to straddle him, Mason's hands placed against her waist. As she pressed herself closer to him, he also guided her closer to him. As she spoke, Mason's head was rested against the back of the sofa, however hues were fixed on her. This close, he couldn't help but admire her features, noticing the bright blue in her eyes and also her freckles. His hands slipped under her pajama shirt, fingertips lightly brushing against her bare skin, but not going any higher than her waist.
"I think you've just made my plans for New Years." It wasn't like the male had any other plans than what he usually did in previous years. "I usually stay home and see it in with family and close friends, but spicing it up a bit and going out with you sounds like a great plan." He confirmed. Mason was very much set in his own ways and liked to spend the time with his family, however making new memories with the girl he wanted to explore with, he knew it was a no brainer. "Plus, I heard it's bad luck to start the New Year kiss free."

Pics:
1 & 2. Examples of guineas¹, a British coin 1st made for trade in western Africa.
In the 1st, the motto is Latin for "Anne², by the grace of God."
The 2nd reads "William & Mary³, by the grace of God."
3 & 4. The outside & inside of the grim Newgate⁴ prison, a place from which few prisoners ever returned...
5 & 6. Sample covers from Argosy⁵ magazine's long history.
Two of their more famous writers are represented here: the now forgotten Talbot Mundy⁶ & the immortal Edgar Rice Burroughs⁷.
1914: Poetic Addendum.
Intro: "Sors Poetae⁸" is a good example of the type of short poems that Lovecraft sent out during the nearly year long Letter War.
It shows that Howard could write in a normal manner - when he wished to.
Other than the title, there's only a few interesting allusions made here.
There might also be a bit of mystery to be found in it...
Work: "True, your lines... reach the public's eye. But, how much bread will public reading buy⁹?"
"While better men, with 50 times his skill, Are thrust in Newgate, for a tailor's bill¹⁰."
No plot so stale, No levity so strained, That an idle guinea may be gained."
Notes:
1. A guinea was an English coin worth one pound & a shilling (£1.05), which equaled 21 shillings. This would be worth a $1.22 in the U.S. today.
The guinea was used to buy luxury goods, art & high-end items. Yet, it is not in use any longer.
As a word, guinea comes from the 1400s Portuguese Guine, a name which described "the black folk living south of the Senegal River in West Africa."
The word was also used for bird & place names. Plus, it has been used as a curse word cast on various, different minorities...
2. Anne, Queen of England, Scotland & Ireland in the early 1700s. She precided over the Acts of Union that merged Scotland & England.
She favored moderate Tory politicians, who shared her Anglican religious beliefs. And, dismissed many Whigs from their high offices.
Anne grew increasingly sick, suffering thru 17 pregnancies & died without leaving any live children behind...
3. When, in 1689, King James the 2nd deserted the throne of England, Mary & William were offered the kingship - as joint monarchs!
They had to accept a Bill of Rights that limited their royal power & which made Parliament free of any royal interference.
Mary suffered thru at least 4 different miscarriages. But, was lighthearted, gentle & approachable.
She would die of smallpox in 1694.
William, being a cold & distant leader, was not very popular - especially with the Scots.
He had little time for court life & was happiest on the battlefield.
William would die in 1702, after a fall from his horse.
4. Newgate prison in London, England was once situated just inside the city's border - where a gate in the old Roman wall once stood.
Usually, the only way out of this jail was by the hangman's noose!!
Originally commissioned in the 1100s by King Henry the 2nd, Newgate remained in use til 1902!
Today, the only part remaining of this 'chokey' is a wall in the appropriately named Amen Court...
5. Argosy was a U.S. publication that was founded in 1882 - as a children's weekly newspaper!!
It would last til 1979, by becoming a showcase of popular fiction - for every genre imaginable!
Argosy is considered to be the 1st pulp magazine. After many changes in titles, editors & formats, it ended up as a men's adventure 'rag.'
At 1 time or another, the mag included works from O. Henry ("Gift of the Magi"), Robert Heinlein ("Starship Troopers"), Arthur C. Clark ("2001: A Space Odyssey") & Erle Stanley Gardner ("Perry Mason").
Plus, Max Brand ("Dr. Kildare"), Ray Bradbury ("Fahrenheit 451"), Robert E. Howard ("Conan the Barbarian") & Edward R. Burroughs ("Tarzan of the Apes").
Argosy has been revived several times, most recently in 2016.
6. Talbot Mundy was an English writer of adventure fiction.
He worked as a journalist in British India, an ivory poacher in East Africa & as a writer in NYC.
Mundy then went to Jerusalem, where he established that city's 1st English newspaper.
Back in the U.S., he embraced the Theosophy movement. And, got married 5 times.
Mundy would later die of diabetes...
His best known works are "Tros of Samothrace", "Queen Cleopatra" & "Sword of Iskandar."
Mundy's stories have been favorably compared to the works of the more successful H. Rider Haggard ("She" & "King Solomon's Mines") & Rudyard Kipling ("Jungle Books" & "Captains Courageous").
7. The still well known Edgar Rice Burroughs & his eternal creation "Tarzan of the Apes" need little by way of introduction.
Rice is also the creator of John Carter, the "Warlord of Mars" & many lesser known heroes...
Like Lovecraft, Rice was descended from a Puritan in the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
Rice became a soldier with the 7th U.S. Calvary in Fort Grant, Arizona Territory.
But, a heart problem saw him being discharged in 1897.
Rice then drifted around as a cowboy, factory worker & as a gold dredge manager in south Idaho.
He then worked in the Oregon Short Line Railroad & as a wholesaler - before starting to write.
Rice later became a successful pilot & was in Honolulu during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor!
He received permission & became 1 of the oldest war correspondents during WW2.
Rice made it thru the war, moved out West & earned some $2 million in royalties from 27 Tarzan films!
He died, of a heart attack, & is buried in Tarzana, California.
8. "Sors Poetae" is Latin for "fate of the Poet." Lovecraft was a believer in the idea that the Western World was 'declining.'
This went in hand with his belief that minorities were slowly destroying the English world.
Even the English language was under foreign assault!
This was a common thought at that time. But, we see the same idea cropping up today - with the Rump's MAGA campaign.
The truth is that the U.S. has seen several ups & downs in it's economy.
This is normal for all nations.
9. I take this comment as a reference to the poor pay that pulp writers got in those days. Howard received $200 for his "Call of Cthulhu" novella...
HPL was, at this time, very harsh on commercial works. He felt that any economic reward was diluting the greatness of fictional works.
Lovecraft saw amateur writers as the true heroes of the written word. This because they were free to dream up any new types of fiction.
Like he would eventually do...
10. Who is Howard referencing here? A classical author 50 times better than Jackson & jailed (in Newgate!) for not paying for a suit?!
If anybody knows the identity of this mystery man, I'd appreciate it if you could let me know...

Aca Top 10: Old School Rap — VoicePlay music video
youtube
If you've ever wanted to hear a group of 30-something white guys cover classic rap and hip-hip tracks, you're in luck. VoicePlay decided to kick it old school and spit some rhymes. It's a little earnest, and a little tongue-in-cheek, just like the music of the era.
Details:
title: Aca Top 10 – Old School Rap
original songs / performers: "La-Di-Da-Di" by Slick Rick & Doug E. Fresh; [0:18] "Going Back to Cali" by LL Cool J; [0:32] "Push It" by Salt-n-Pepa; [0:58] "Parents Just Don’t Understand" by DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince; [1:09] "Bust A Move" by Young MC; [1:33] "It's Tricky" by Run-DMC; [1:50] "Just A Friend" by Biz Markie; [2:14] "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice; [2:22] "The Humpty Dance" by Digital Underground; [2:44] "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugarhill Gang; [3:10] "Walk This Way" by Run-DMC & Aerosmith
written by: "La-Di-Da-Di" by Douglas "Doug E. Fresh" Davis & Richard "Slick Rick" Walters; "Going Back to Cali" by Rick Rubin & James "LL Cool J" Smith; "Push It" by Hurby "Luv Bug" Azor & Ray Davies; "Parents Just Don’t Understand" by Pete Harris, Will "Fresh Prince" Smith, Jeffrey "DJ Jazzy Jeff" Townes; "Bust A Move" by Marvin "Young MC" Young, Matt Dike, & Michael Ross; "It's Tricky" by Joseph "Rev. Run" Simmons, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels, Steven Tyler, & Joe Perry
arranged by: Geoff Castellucci
release date: 27 May 2016
My favorite bits:
Layne kicking things off with some classic beatboxing
Earl collapsing the boombox antenna in time with the pitch jump on ♫ "right" ♫
Tony busting out some lowkey dance moves from the "Push It" video
the smooth hand-off of the scratching from Layne to Eli during "Parents Just Don't Understand"
the melodramatic grit in Earl's ♫ "oh ba-by youuu" ♫
continuing the running gag of everyone else leaving Geoff hanging during one song in a medley
pulling out the Groucho glasses to emulate the "Humpty Dance" video
Geoff poutily continuing the "Ice Ice Baby" bass line under "The Humpty Dance"
the back row busting out their best Steven Tyler impressions for the end of "Walk This Way"
Tumblr media
Trivia:
○ "Bust A Move" was part of VoicePlay's stage repertoire for several years. (See this corporate gig for an example.)
○ Earl also performed an excerpt from "The Humpty Dance" in a James Brown medley the guys did during their 4:2:Five era.
○ The guys are all wearing thematically appropriate shirts:
Eli — corded over-ear headphone print
Earl — "I remember real hip hop" with boombox graphic
Tony — Run-DMC shades logo (+ bonus MTV logo cap)
Geoff — Freddy Krueger with a boombox
Layne — DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
○ The video description credits Earl as "MC Pee Pants". I'd imagine there's a story behind it, but nothing I've found so far has provided any obvious context. If anyone knows where that came from, I'd be fascinated to hear it.

Christmas Eve (Perrie Edwards x Reader)
Tumblr media
Christmas was not your thing. It wasn’t that you hated it, but you just weren’t in for the festivities. Perrie, however, loved it. You hadn’t spent a Christmas together yet, but this year, the two of you were holed up together. She’d decorated the house and even managed to get you to make some cookies. It was nice, even if it wasn’t your thing.
“Y/n, come here,” Perrie told you. You sighed as you got up from the couch, wincing at the sound of your bones cracking. Perrie ran up the stairs to your bedroom and you followed her. Sitting on the bed was a box wrapped in the brightest and most festive wrapping paper you’d ever seen in your entire life.
“Babe, this is a bit tacky,” you said as you sat next to the box. Perrie rolled her eyes and climbed onto your lap. Whatever she was about to ask of you would happen, and both of you knew it.
“Open it,” Perrie said and you tore into the wrapping paper. It was a bit early for Christmas presents, but this would probably have to do with the Christmas card that Perrie had brought up at dinner the other night. You’d brushed it off as a joke, but as you opened the box to see a Christmas sweater, you realized she was serious. “Put that on and meet me downstairs in 10.”
You just gave a nod in response and Perrie climbed off of your lap. She kissed your cheek before she left and you put the sweater on. You looked in the mirror and realized that you’d have to change out of your shorts. There was a pair of jeans set out that matched your social media persona and the sweater at the same time. You put on a pair of Vans and then went downstairs. Perrie was holding Hotchi already and you picked up your dog of about 2 years, Chyna.
“Kiss me on the cheek,” Perrie said and you leaned in and kissed her. The picture was taken and then Perrie got right to sending it to you and uploading it herself. She wrote out a cute little message about the year and love. A part of you wanted to make a sarcastic joke or something for your caption, but instead you took everybody by surprise and wrote out a very sweet and heartfelt message.
“I’m gonna take Chyna on a walk,” you told Perrie before she could see your post. She nodded and you put a coat on to walk your dog. You took a bit longer than usual and when you got back, Perrie was waiting for you on the couch. She wasn’t watching TV or anything, just sitting there holding a pillow in her lap. “What’s up babe?”
“You’re a fucking sweetheart,” Perrie said. She got up and pulled you in for a kiss. You kissed her back and the two of you spent the rest of the night on the couch, cuddled up watching Christmas movies. Halfway through the fourth movie, you noticed that Perrie was asleep, so you turned off the TV and carried her upstairs to the bedroom.
“Come on Chyna,” you said as you lifted Hotchi onto the bed. You let him get settled in his spot as your dog settled at your feet. You leaned over Hotchi to kiss Perrie goodnight as you tucked yourself in. “Merry Christmas Eve babe, I love you.”
