Ruby is one of the most expensive gemstones and with its rich red colour it isn't hard to see why. Rubies have long been connected with physicality and strength, thought to be intimately connected with the human body.

Peridot is one of my favourite stones thanks to its gorgeous yellow-green hue. Because of this lively appearance they were often thought to protect their wearer at night.

Sapphire is considered a protective gemstone. They may shield the wearer from physical harm, as well as bad intentions and envy. It was also thought that sapphires had medicinal properties.

Opal is an incredibly unique gemstone with its multi-coloured appearance. Opals are associated with light and magic, with some crediting them with healing properties.

Topaz comes from the Sanskrit word for fire, which is reflected in its vibrant and rich orange-yellow colour. It is believed that topaz worn above the heart assures long life, beauty and intelligence.

Blue Topaz actually comes out of the ground colourless or pale blue. A two-step heat and radiation laboratory treatment is then used to turn these stones vivid blue.

Here’s my Lapis and Peridot fusion; Turquenite/Howlite.

I also chose Turquenite because one of its properties is improved communication, and is supposed to influence control over one’s life, which I think if this were a canonical fusion in the show, both Lapis and Peridot would want if they’re fused. It also is used for balancing emotions, which I think perfectly describes Peridot and Lapis’ dynamic within the show.

The fusion itself I think would be very artistically aligned, and have the ability to bend metal just as easily as water. Peridot and Lapis would balance each other’s emotions, and therefore act as almost a vehicle for the two gems to try new things together, as well as help support each other in healing.

Here is my submission for @dribbonart 's amedot fusion competition! I like her a lot, although there are a couple of things I probably could have done a bit better lol

I have A LOT of notes under the cut, which can get a bit stream-of-consciousness-y (because I can never just be chill about something bsdjaksjdlskd),, so I apologise in advance for how long it is 😭

Early research notes:

Mixing amethyst and peridot's skin colours together gets you a kind of sage green colour, so I researched to light green gems

Aventurine stuck out to me as it was the only one i found where it was actually described as sage green, so i thought 'that's perfect' lol

A lot of the healing properties of green aventurine I think resonate with both amethyst and peridot's personalities, from its promotion of friendship to its emission of positive energy

I liked that one of the sites i used to research aventurine mentioned ancient civilisations' usage of green aventurine and i wanted to incorporate that into the fusion's design/personality

It's important to me for her to have aspects of both amethyst and peridot shown in the design somewhere. Most of the time when i design fan fusions I do this in their hair, which is not different this time. I made her hair long, with a bushy tail on her braid representing amethyst, and her three skull braids representing peridot's triangle hair. Her hair is also in a braid bc when i hear the word adventure for some reason the first thing i think of is Lara Croft so,,, thats why i gave her a braid 😅

I wanted her body design to kind of resemble athleisure-wear since she loves relaxing but can get up and go at any point, ready for adventure! She also doesn't need to be complicated. I don't think she needs extra limbs etc since she has her vision power.

Obviously the crystal gems are very important to both amethyst and peridot, so I wanted to give her at least one star on her body. Her torso seemed like the most obvious place, but I'm not sure if she should have more elsewhere, too. The star on her torso can be like a tattoo.

I think she would be very intense in her love for her friends, which might make people uncomfortable. She will back off if she senses this, but she means well I promise!!

She can be spontaneous when it comes to her adventuring, sometimes dragging Steven and the other gems from their beds to go on a Cool Adventure (pearl is NOT a fan of this lmao)

When I say 'adventuring' I really mean just travelling and/or exploring new places, which could be anything from a new city to a deep jungle. Normally these adventures don't last longer than a couple of days... unless they get lost..........

A few amedot related rambles notes:

One of my favourite things about amedot is that they're sooo opposite. I'm such a big opposites-attract truther almost everything I ship there's one puppy dog and one wet cat there's nothing i love more than polar opposite pairings <3

With that said they also share a few things (cough being short asses cough) such as their love of their friends (even if they show it in different ways) and they can both be pretty headstrong. They both had their own journeys - amethyst with her self confidence and feeling inferior, and peridot with unlearning the system of homeworld and the traditions she was so used to. They both had to learn how to love themselves enough to be able to stand up for what they believe in and to let themselves be true to themselves (i hope that makes sense lol)

I think their opposing traits can be quite complementary. Peridot is quite intense; she gets excited about her favourite things and she gets embarrassed easily. Amethyst is more laid-back and tends to roll her own way. They complement each other well.

Ball/Sphere: Crystal that is shaped into a ball from a larger piece of crystal…quartz crystals rarely occurs naturally as a sphere. The Sphere is associated with Harmony, scrying, even energy all around.

Crystal Pyramid: Manifestation, intently focused energy. prosperity.

A crystal shaped like a pyramid, it has four equal triangular sides that meet to a point with a flat square base. It’s effective for amplifying energy. *Egyptian used the pyramids to send the pharaoh's soul straight to the gods. Crystal Generators and Obelisks are 2 shapes that are often confused with one another, just count the number of sides. A generator has six equal sides and an Obelisk has four. Generators, Obelisks and Pyramids are great shapes to direct/amplify energy. Better used in crystal grids, as it will amplify/boost energy. 

Crystal Wands: Healing and rituals, moving/directing energy.

Its August! Every single birthstone for August has been shown as a gem in Steven Universe: peridot, spinel, and sardonyx. Let’s discuss these three crystals' physical and metaphysical properties as we begin the month.

Peridot

Peridot is a strange crystal when it comes to its formation. The gem variety of olivine (which itself is green forsterite), peridot is found in lava flows, inside solidified molten rock, and even in meteorites. It is made of magnesium silicate (Mg₂SiO₄), along with inclusions of iron and magnesium, which causes its green colour.

Peridot is believed to help with emotional trauma by providing positive energy. Along with this, it known for its ability to bring out unconditional love and understanding of relationships. Peridot is also thought to be best for attracting money and abundance, as well as preventing overspending. Physically, Peridot has healing properties and can aid in the recovery from illnesses or accidents. It is known to relieve allergic reactions, ease problems in the lungs, heart, and stomach, and assist in childbirth. Emotionally, Peridot stabilizes moods, encourages letting go of negative emotions, and alleviates stress and anxiety. It can also enhance focus and concentration, making it useful for academic pursuits. It is considered a stone of transformation and can aid in recovery from addictions. Peridot also has specific uses for luck, protection, and finding lost items.

Peridot is rated 6.5-7 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it suitable for wearing. It's colour is light-stable, but the gem is sensitive to heat. Warm, soapy water recommended for cleaning peridot.

Spinel

Spinels are actually a group of related minerals. The type I'm referring to are the namesake spinels made of magnesium aluminate (MgAl₂O₄). Spinel's red colour is caused by chromium, but spinel is not just found in red. Spinel's can be found in a variety of colours as well. Orange and purple spinels are coloured by a mix of iron and chromium, violet spinels by iron, and blues either to iron or cobalt.

Spinel is a gemstone associated with revitalization and energy. It is believed to be beneficial for workaholics, helping release stress and replenish energy levels. Spinel may bring inspiration and brings hope, promoting new thinking, persistence, and a positive outlook on the future. It is thought to enhance personal power, creativity, intuition, and emotional balance. In relationships, Spinel is said to encourage hope, gratitude, and open communication. It may also stimulates sexual desire and fosters clarity and non-judgmental communication. In terms of health, Spinel is said to support the treatment of infertility, calm the nervous system, reduce fatigue, and promote overall physical vitality. It may also provide help with various physical issues such as joint and muscle problems, dental health, and digestive system imbalances. Spinel is associated with wealth and success, providing insight into financial matters, boosting self-confidence, and protecting against negative influences.

Spinel ranks 8 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it harder than quartz but softer than corundum (ruby or sapphire). Spinel's colours are stable in sunlight. Washing it with warm, soapy water is best, regardless of any treatments it could undergo.

Sardonyx

Sardonyx is a type of agate with reddish-brown and black or white banding. Being an agate, it is the same composition as quartz: silicon oxide (SiO₂).

Historically, Sardonyx has been associated with bravery, eloquence, and luck in legal matters. It its believed to promote self-control, motivation, self-confidence, happiness, and optimism. Sardonyx supports discipline, willpower, and strength of character while stimulating happiness, optimism, and self-assurance. It aids in finding meaning in life, attracting friendships, and improving relationships. Alongside its metaphysical benefits, Sardonyx has physical healing effects, invigorating the senses, regulating body fluids and metabolism, and aiding in various physical ailments.

Like all quartz, sardonyx has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale of hardness. This makes it a strong stone that doesn't break easily and can stand being worn as jewelry.

We have a new citizen in Mount Phoenix:

          Xiao Lian, a 25 year old son of Airmid.           He is a farmhand at Happy Garden.

FC NAME/GROUP:  Song Jiyang CHARACTER NAME: Xiao Lian AGE/DATE OF BIRTH:  January 26, 1999 PLACE OF BIRTH:  Wuyishan, Fujian, China OCCUPATION:  Farmhand at Happy Garden HEIGHT:  6'0"/183 cm WEIGHT:  135 pounds/61.2 kg DEFINING FEATURES: Not a single scar or blemish to his skin, but his eyes betray a deeper pain.  Peridot eyes with a subtle but beautiful golden shimmer like embers.  Nearly always barefoot.  Neck-length dark chocolate hair.  Tall and very thin, nearly emaciated.  Oversized clothes/hand-me-downs often stained with dirt and grass.

PERSONALITY:  Lian is very much a simple country bumpkin.  One is more apt to find him outdoors and enjoying his freedom in the fresh air after being confined indoors for so long.  Despite his unfortunate past, Lian is a friendly fellow.  Just because he has a bit of a language barrier, only speaking Mandarin and some basic English, does not mean he shies away from communicating entirely; in fact, he is even learning Korean!  Wearing shoes is uncomfortable and he is extremely averse to wearing formal clothing; he is more apt to be found barefoot in hand-me-down shirts and jeans, though tends to keep his hands covered by his sleeves.  As his healing touch is a passive ability, physical contact is a generally pleasant experience for others, comforting and at times intoxicating.  While he may not have physical scars, the emotional and mental scars of his life with Lu Xi are permanent.  Outwardly, he seems unfazed by many violent acts when in reality he was conditioned not to react; inwardly, he is screaming–screaming in fear, screaming in pain, screaming in desperation.  He would rather endure agonizing torture than allow someone else get hurt, willingly sacrificing himself for the sake of others; his reasoning is that he can heal himself, so there is ‘no real harm’.  However, just because he can heal does not mean he does not feel the initial pain or illness.  That memory stays with him even if the sensation does not. 

Lian is reserved when interacting with people, but his kindness shines through along with a natural willingness to help.  Because his formal education ended at age 11, he remains very naïve about many things in the world and is, unfortunately, very much gullible and trusts people far too easily.  He has a “heavenly” tenor singing voice, though is very hesitant to sing around people, preferring to sing to the plants who appear to enjoy it tremendously.  Though his education is limited, he has no real intention of continuing school but rather looks forward to learning more about the medicinal properties of plants on his own.

HISTORY:  Content warning:  Parent death, murder, kidnapping, child abuse, exploitation of a minor

Love once existed between a goddess and a clever herbalist in Wuyishan named Xiao Bai.  That love culminated into the birth of a son, left with the father who vowed to raise him well while the mother returned to her divine duties.  For the first few years, pair lived a happy and rural life.  Lian scarcely has any memories of his father, the man disappearing mysteriously when the boy was only three years old.  Due to their remote life on the mountain, no one realized the herbalist was missing for nearly a week.  His son was found alone, hiding in the pantry, taken in by authorities and subsequently handed off to his uncle who worked as a landscaper at a nearby resort.  Knowing his nephew’s divine heritage, Uncle Sun assumed custody and kept the boy’s true nature a secret.  Lian lived with his uncle on the property, attended daycare while the man worked, sometimes helping where he could.  A couple years later, a group of hiking tourists discovered a badly decomposed body on the mountain and after thorough investigation, was discovered to be the missing Xiao Bai.  Judging by the gaping hole in the back of his skull, foul play was immediately suspected.  Lian himself had been too young to remember what happened to his father and could only recall the man telling him to stay quiet and hidden in the pantry.  Thus, the murder went unsolved.  Both brother and son grieved the loss of Xiao Bai, but life continued.  Lian and his uncle continued to live at the resort with the boy attending school and helping Sun with gardening; tragedy aside, they were very happy.

When Sun accidentally cut his hand with pruning shears, Lian’s powers were discovered at the age of 11 when, as he was inspecting his uncles fingers, the landscaper’s wounds quickly healed before their eyes.  From that moment on, Lian's eyes had a subtle glow to them, a golden iridescence within the irises that brightened when he actively used his abilities.  He healed his uncle again a few weeks later when the man developed a cough and cold, cured with only tight hug and a “feel better” from his nephew.  Sun insisted the child be very careful who he show his powers to, that they must be kept a secret.  He did his best for a bit, but when a guest was kind to him–a guest at the resort–fell off her balcony one night, resulting in many broken bones including her skull, he could not remain idle.  Traumatized and without thinking, Lian rushed to the girl and healed her, after which he fainted.  Her recovery, however, earned him the title of “miracle boy” and Sun was extremely weary of the newfound attention.  Rumors spread; employees and guests alike came to the boy to be healed of their ailments, eventually spreading to the locals and beyond.  Sun did not approve of this attention–especially knowing his nephew had a bleeding heart and would not let someone suffer–so he packed up their belongings and moved them to Lushan City in Jiangxi, the next province over.  There, Sun was hired as a gardener for a wealthy family, he and Lian taking residence in the guest house.  One day, while playing with the family’s son Fu, Fu fell and broke his leg; Lian healed him, but begged that Fu keep it a secret.

Fu did not keep it a secret and told his father Lu Xi.  The man then broke Fu’s arm and demanded Lian heal him, which Lian did without hesitation despite his uncle’s protests.  Lu Xi contacted the former resort and listened to the stories of this boy who could bring back someone from the brink of death.  Lu Xi strangled his wife and demanded Lian bring her back, which he did, resulting in the boy being comatose for a week.  When Lian awoke, he was confined to a guest room, the door locking from the outside.  His uncle was nowhere to be found…nor were Fu and his mother.  All that remained was Lu Xi who demanded the child use his powers like a parlor trick to his guests.  Eventually, they would pay Lu Xi with money or favors to have this boy heal ailments of themselves or their loved ones; some clients obtained that “healing touch” by nefarious and lewd methods, ultimately behind a shell of the vibrant boy that once was.  Rarely was he allowed time outdoors, but when he was, it was only at night and he spent the majority of it just lying on the ground in the garden which only angered Lu Xi that the boy returned with grass in his hair and stains on his clothes.  He spent the majority of the next thirteen years in that guest room…

…until one client told the “wrong person” about this secret miracle boy, a woman who had a knack for rescuing demigods from horrible situations; and that was just what she did, stealing Lian away in the night and bringing him to Mount Phoenix where he would be safe.  In this new environment, the “quiet lotus” began to sprout and bud again; it may take some time for him to fully bloom, but he makes gradual progress tending to the land at Happy Garden where he feels most at home.

Healing Touch–Naturally able to heal wounds, ailments, and diseases with physical contact, rejuvenating and regenerating cells with a touch; the more serious or grave the injury/illness, the more exhausting it is for him to heal.  

Death’s Pause–The ability to resurrect someone who has very recently passed; this is only possible within the first few minutes of a person’s heart stopping and is extremely taxing, resulting in Lian being comatose for no less than a week.
