adrien is acespec, autistic, genderqueer, and arguably not human (sentibeing). he does not realize any of these facts, however, because that would require knowing himself. which he does not

I've been thinking about it for a while, but the Mihoyo games fandoms are... Really less than courteous when it comes to spoilers.
I'm a loyal consumer of leaks myself, but I swear the fandom at large acts like everyone is - and not just is, but apparently should be.
There's been fanart in the HSR fandom regarding a certain character and a certain boss' relationship for weeks when not even the 3.1 main mission has touched upon it - because it comes from leaks regarding the future of the story. With the change in Genshin drip marketing schedule, it's quite literally impossible to find out who the new characters are officially because they're leaked at least a week prior and fanart (of course, untagged) starts flooding social media. There were also edits of the new 5.4 CGs everywhere as soon as the preload hit the servers, spoiling essentially everyone who wanted to wait for the version to, you know, actually be out.
Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but it makes for a very poor fandom experience when everyone acts like you're expected to follow leaks or you're the one responsible for getting things spoiled for you. It costs absolutely nothing to tag your leak-inspired or preload-datamined stuff as spoilers.

fun fact!! while rewatching, i noticed he uses the personal pronoun 私/watashi no matter who he talks to. the reason i took notice of this specifically is because 私 is gender neutral when used formally and feminine when used informally, which means he’s either using very formal speech with everyone, including his childhood best friend (which would be weird, considering how everyone else (in the show at least, idk about real life) uses their preferred pronoun and speaks informally when speaking to their friends, although o wouldn’t really put it past him), or he’s using a feminine pronoun on himself just because.
this is also part of the reason why i love nb touma

appreciation for dorian as a character with complicated feelings about his homeland
Obviously, Dorian's already well appreciated as a character for his wit and charm, alongside his many other fine qualities.
But I want to dig into something I don't see talked about as much: Dorian's representation of a person with complicated feelings about his homeland, who feels proud of its progress and potential, while simultaneously being frustrated by and ashamed of its many failures and cruelties.
This is one of the first things that leapt out to me about Dorian's story -- the feeling of bearing that complexity in your heart for the place you came from, and being hard-pressed to properly express any of it when you live among people who can only picture your countryfolk as villainous caricatures.
I was astounded to see that concept represented in my favourite game series, because that's my experience too.
Real quick backstory: My parents emigrated to the country I largely grew up in from a place across the ocean with a highly infamous history of horrific crimes against humanity under fascism.
This mainly meant two things for my childhood: (1) a very early start at learning and digesting humanity's capability for evil, not to mention the need to be vigilant against fascist bullshit; (2) ample teasing from my peers who, living far away from my home country and thus not taking the aforementioned horrors very personally, found it quite funny to make me the butt of fascist-from-my-home-country jokes.
(Something I quickly learned in that situation: getting angry at a joke is a pretty good way to make sure your fellow kids keep telling it. So the strategy of defensive humour, like sarcastically citing your stereotypes before others can throw them at you, is something Dorian and I very much share in common.)
At any rate, I found it super interesting to recognize all that in Dorian and his relationship to Tevinter. It's not a perfect parallel, obviously, but a similar position: there are elements to be proud of in your heritage, and a deep fondness for the good parts of your culture that have nurtured and raised you. But that's all tangled up with some horrific things. Worse still, you know that looking away from the horrors is a good way to risk it all happening again. So there's no way forward except to wade through it all -- and to stand against those horrors, as best you can.
On the topic of standing against the horrors, Dorian's obviously an inspiration. He commits to fighting his own country's corruption rather fearlessly. But alongside all that, what really makes me appreciate Dorian is the places where he's wrong.
Dorian's got a good heart and the best of intentions, but he's still limited in his worldview by the place that produced him. We don't meet him as a perfectly noble crusader for all that's good, but as a brave yet flawed person struggling through the accepted context of his existence, trying his hardest to find what's right on the other side of it all.
Sometimes he falls short, famously. (As must we all!) Which is very important to me. Because the capability to do wrong and be wrong isn't just a thing that villains have. It's in all of us, and it's our job to be vigilant against it as best we can. If there's one singular lesson my own grandfather would want me to carry forward from everything he saw, it's that one.
Dorian's stumbles and flaws are reminders of this too. Seeing past our society's structural evils, and standing against them, is difficult, clumsy work, and sometimes we will embarrass ourselves and expose our limitations and our ignorance, but that's fine. We can't fix what we don't expose. And we can't locate the real roots of evil unless we understand how we're capable of it too.
All of that to say this: What makes Dorian most inspiring to me is two truths that his character upholds no matter what else happens. One, that loving your country and cutting out the rot from its heart are one and the same thing. And two, that no matter the obstacles, what's right is always worth fighting for. We're all gonna do our best out here.

We report: of this day filled with clouds from morning to evening, we had no sunset expectations. Through the east-facing window, however, we noticed distant fields dazzled in red light. We scrambled out, wound up at a deserted parking lot, minutes before streetlamps turned on.

i've gotta laugh at the possibility of me leaving the gay porn gacha fandom, i'm trapped here forever. it's in my blood now.
i mainly just created a sideblog bc beloved though this media is, i cannot recommend it to people. aaaand also my main is ridiculously cluttered and barely even fandom related, so all of my hyperfixations have neat little sideblogs so that i can keep everything relatively organized.
also. i am VERY excited for the upcoming event!!! i'm saving up for my precious! i almost got spoiled on the outfit but i scrolled away in the nick of time!!
sincerely, @blades-precious-darling
takes a weary crunch out of my candy cigar (very full of honey). it's been over 900 days. i am still here. i'm supposed to have commitment issues. have i ever been in a fandom for this long?!
i think necromancer diloreq said it best... where,, even though i'm obsessed with this game, i cannot in my.. proper?judgement? conscience?? refer it to other ppl. at least not en masse. it's a gay porn gacha LOL
i'll have to bring it up only to people i know will not lose their life savings to whaledom, whose specific interests match the nuca profile, AND who aren't someHoW ALReAdy playing it???!

personally i believe it's time to bring back scaphism. don't get me wrong there may indeed perhaps be worse methods of torture-execution but i personally have never been more horrified by anything besides "the boats". enjoy your stay in inescapable and more-horrific-than-i-could-ever-come-close-to-articulating long and excruciating AND, as a generous bonus, HUMILIATING demise
