04/08/24-Sunflower in the garden good to see one out a strong symbol of summer, a resplendent Silver-spotted Skipper at Perham Down among my first of the year today an excellent few minutes watching them fizz around the meadow and still, views at Shipton Bellinger and St. John's-wort and wayfaring tree berries at Perham Down.

I also enjoyed seeing beautiful Bullfinches at both locations, Rooks, Buzzard, Magpie, lots of Meadow Browns, Gatekeeper, Common Blue, Peacock, Red Admiral, Large White, Brimstone, creeping cinquefoil, rosebay willowherb, wild parsnip, eyebright, woolly thistle and exciting views of my first ever Tawny Longhorn beetle and Purple Bar moth.

This is Beck Watkins, Tyler's roommate and best friend.

Beck's also fairly tall and lean but not quiet as tall and lean as Nicholas.

He also appears shorter because a lot of the time he slouches, like he's trying to make himself smaller. Unlike Tyler, Beck is meticulously organized. Everything has a place, and he even keeps a planner to write things down in before he puts them in on the schedule of his phone.

He does his best to keep his friends lives in order.

This is boyfriend Caleb Fisher, who is like a big ol' golden retriever.

Caleb works as a life guard at local beach nearby, and somehow manages to leave sand wherever he goes. He's a bit shorter than Beck but not by much, especially when Beck slouches. The poor boy also has wicked allergies during the summer, but he doesn't let that stop him from having fun.

This is Layla Morrison. Beck's other friend and confidant, and is like the coolest person ever. She'd alway encouraging Beck and trying push him outside his comfort zone.

She's just all around a great person.

This her girlfriend Alice Perham from Disaster Control.

She can be pretty cheeky, teasing her friends for their crushes while she herself is clearly height of maturity as she's already in a relationship.

She's a loyal friend though and is alway there when they need someone to lean on.

I'll have to write fic with these two in the future I'm kind of in love with my lesbian girlies.

Jeremy Slate (born Robert Bullard Perham; February 17, 1926 – November 19, 2006)  Film and television actor, and songwriter. He is best known for Larry Lahr in The Aquanauts (1960–1961), Chuck Wilson in One Life to Live (1979–1987) and as Deputy Sheriff Ben Latta in The Sons of Katie Elder (1965).

Slate co-starred with Ron Ely in the 1960–1961 Ivan Tors series The Aquanauts,  which was renamed Malibu Run halfway during its brief run on CBS. The series could not compete successfully in the same time slot as NBC's durable western Wagon Train. He guest-starred in nearly 100 television shows and appeared in twenty feature films. Among his many television appearances were two roles in the courtroom drama series Perry Mason, both times as Perry's client: In season 3, 1960, he played Bob Lansing in the episode, "The Case of the Ominous Outcast", and in season 5, 1962, he played Philip Andrews in "The Case of the Captain's Coins."

He guest-starred in the 1959–1960 syndicated western series, Pony Express, starring Grant Sullivan.

In 1963, Slate was cast as Mark Novak in the episode "The Loner" of the NBC modern western series, Empire, set on a ranch in New Mexico. In the storyline he became involved in a deadly boxing match with series character Tal Garrett (Ryan O'Neal). Also in 1963, he co-starred in an episode of the second season of Combat! called "Off Limits," produced and directed by Robert Altman. That same year, he played Elroy Daldran, a hired assassin out to kill Eliot Ness, in "A Taste for Pineapple", the final episode (series finale) of The Untouchables starring Robert Stack. Finally in 1963, he appeared in James Arness’s TV Western series Gunsmoke, as gunslinger Billy Hargis in “Carter Caper” (season 9, episode 8).

He played a troubled surfer in a 1962, season 3 episode of Route 66 called "Ever Ride the Waves in Oklahoma?" In 1965 he starred as Wally in season 1, episode 21 of Bewitched, entitled "Ling Ling". He later guest-starred as a German infiltrator in a fourth-season episode of Combat! entitled ”The Mockingbird” (aired 1966).

Slate played Hank in the NBC comedy Accidental Family in 1967–1968.

From 1979 to 1987, Slate portrayed Chuck Wilson on the ABC daytime soap opera One Life to Live. For a short time, from April to October 1985, while Slate was not on One Life to Live, he portrayed the character of Locke Walls on the CBS daytime drama (soap opera) Guiding Light. Slate performed in nine episodes of CBS's long-running Western series Gunsmoke, including in the role of a likable but doomed cowboy in the 1962 episode "The Gallows" written by John Meston. He also guest-starred three times on The Alfred Hitchcock Hour on CBS and then NBC, on CBS's Mission: Impossible and The New Adventures of Wonder Woman, ABC's Bewitched, then NBC's My Name Is Earl.  (Wikipedia)

Two enchanting nature watching moments so far this year: Dipper at Nethy Bridge and Silver-spotted Skipper at Perham Down

At a sunny Nethy Bridge at the heart of our epic Scotland holiday in spring I was dazzled by darting Dippers along the exquisite rushing river. Seeing them flit from surface to surface, one leaving its aquatic footprints on a rock, sensing their joyous presence. It was fascinating to see the food in their bills with a nest nearby as we enjoyed splendid intimate views of one of my favourite birds.

Fast forward to high summer and after changeable weather almost a novelty to observe butterfly filled vibrant meadows. Fluttering through them a golden gem, the dainty Silver-spotted Skipper, sunset orange with open wings and deliciously and intricately marked with wings closed. An enthralling encounter with a wonder of nature, I revelled in taking a few moments to drink it in.
