again i say to you
if this man would just let the percy series mature and dig deeper into the emotional arcs he presents in chalice and wrath instead of hopping from one kooky adventure to the next and undermining any story depth with fart and piss jokes and blatant flagging to the disney+ audience, we could have had a very good set of stories on our hands
but NO
percy's rage issues, grief, trauma, and just the general angst of being an older teenager on the cusp of a huge life change are all there and every time the story touches them, it's like RR gets electrocuted and told to get back to Conflict Free Therapy Speak zone before things get too messy
additionally, the third act upping the stakes to Oh Shit We're Gonna Die doesn't work if we already know 1) everyone lives and 2) PERCY GETS INTO COLLEGE at the end of this. the whole point of the series has already been decided!! there are no stakes with your main plot or any of the bullshit mini quests! the opportunity to go for a deep dive character book is there and waiting and ready
but NOOOOOOOOO
gotta make sure all of our main characters have been peed on instead, it's fine

List of some movies that I enjoy and the books they’re based on which often have different vibes than the movie but both are equally good in different ways
Howl’s Moving Castle: The book is titled the same but has very different vibes (movie is more whimsical fantasy while book feels more like realistic fantasy if that makes sense) and also has two companion books in which Howl and Sophie make appearances! Book by Dianna Wynne Jones
Kiki’s Delivery Service: The book is titled the same but again very different vibes (Movie Kiki deals with depression and losing your passion and Book Kiki is cute little witch dealing with people’s problems in cute little witch ways) Book by Eiko Kadono
Stardust: Book titled the same but different vibes (movie is intense and life threatening adventures, book is more fun travel adventures and much slower paced) Book by Neil Gaiman
The Secret of Moonacre: The book is titled The Little White Horse (similar to Stardust the book is a lot slower paced and less life threatening adventures but just as fun and interesting as well as a lot of characters have more depth to them than in the movie) Book by Elizabeth Goudge
The Last Unicorn: Book has same name (from what I remember the book is almost word for word exactly like the movie) Book by Peter S Beagle
Ella Enchanted: Book has the same name (ok this one is a little more controversial. In my opinion the book has a lot more depth and is a lot more interesting in the world building and characters, and the movie is a horrible adaptation. But if you look at the movie as a completely separate thing it is still enjoyable and has fun songs and is a classic from my childhood) Book by Gail Carson Levine
Mary and the Witch’s Flower: The book is titled The Little Broomstick (I have yet to read it but I have just checked it out so I will make sure to update this once I’ve read it! I expect the book will probably have better world building as the movie was fun but didn’t have time to go into depth and the mechanics of the witch’s world) Book by Mary Stewart
Earwig and the Witch: Book titled the same (I also have yet to read this book but have just checked it out and will update later. I think it’ll probably be similar to what I expect with the Little Broomstick where it will probably show a more developed world) Book by Dianna Wynne Jones
Ronja the Robber’s Daughter: Technically not a movie but a tv series. Book has the same name (I also haven’t read it but have just checked it out and will update but I think the show was very well done story wise though the animation wasn’t my favorite and I expect that it probably followed the book fairly closely) Book by Astrid Lindgren
Avalon High: Book has same name and similar plot but characters are switched around (this is actually one where I like the movie a lot better. I feel like the book is extremely predictable and does exactly what you expect to happen while the movie switches it up in a fun way that I feel like also makes sense and isn’t just doing it for the shock factor) Book by Meg Cabot
Tales From Earthsea: One book from the Earthsea Cycle has the same name (I’ve only read the first two books and so technically haven’t gotten to the book that the movie has been adapted from but it’s on my list and I will update once I eventually get to it. So essentially I’ve read the prequels that lead up to the events in the movie and I’ve heard the movie is vaguely different but has similar themes and plot points to the book) Books by Ursula K Le Guin
That’s all I can think of for now but if you have any suggestions to add let me know and I’ll see if I’ve watched the movie and read the books and if so I’ll make an addition to this post!

Sometimes I think it's ridiculous Percy didn't realize he could talk to horses or fish until he got to camp. But then I think little baby Percy running into a police horse and it starts neighing at him and he's like bewildered and confused and later he tells Sally about it and she just laughs that horses don't alk (while masking her internal panic) and Percy must've imagined that.
Same thing happens at the aquarium. The little fishes inside rumbling at his presence, all the sea creatures following him around their tanks, and he just thinks it's because he's cool, and they're talking and he's mumbling responses back and peeople are staring and the teacher yanks him away and asks him what the hell he's doing and he's just blinking with big green eyes, confused and annoyed because, um, he was having a conversation, excuse me.
Anyway, little seven year old Percy curled up in his bed, thinking he's going insane because he keeps talking to animals and that's not normal, and he just ends up repressing that power so forcefully it doesn't emerge again until five years later when he's sitting in the stables, grooming one of the pegasus and he's like, haha, didn't my dad make horses, and that thought blinks out the cage he's been pressing that power into and panics when the pegasus neighs out a "Yeah he did"

i am definitely the only person who cares about this but I was re-reading parts of Sea of Monsters (irrelevent as to why) and. in the chariot race. well, a.) The Ares cabin has skeleton horses. where did they get skeleton horses? and then, actually more confusingly, b.) almost all the other chariots besides Hephaestus cabin (they have automatons) have normal horses. not pegasi. Percy actually specifically identifies the Apollo chariot’s horses by breed which is very funny to me because Of Course He Would but like. We never see CHB have normal horses at any other point in time? Where did they get the horses?

ok i’ve seen people say a million things regarding what percy jackson will do for his career. and the truth is, as of right now, we don’t know. but i have recently (as of yesterday) become pretty convinced of one thing: percy would hate being a marine biologist. it’s too much collecting samples, working in a lab, reporting findings, doing research - all of which percy would hate. he needs something with more action. our boy, with his hero complex and desire for purpose, needs to be helping people/animals on a daily. i’ve seen aquatic veterinarian, rescue diver, firefighter, all of which seem much more up his alley. maybe he’d do a mix of things. but i really don’t know
so i’m asking you guys :)

Sally’s only comfort is that little Percy loved bath time as a kid (on several occasions he asked her to go outside with him, sat in some dirt for a few seconds, dragged her back in, then very seriously said he needed another bath).
This is without a doubt the cutest thing I’ve ever read and it’s forever a part of my brain now.
Little Percy whose favorite part of the day is bath time. Who doesn’t have a lot of bath toys but the ones he has (a little horse, a duck, and a boat) are all incredibly well loved and cared for. Whose skin doesnt wrinkle in the water even long after his mom’s does. Who doesn’t care when the water goes cold. Who hates getting out of the bath and tries to make himself dirty again as fast as possible so he can get another one.
Sally who more than once looked at the ceiling and whispered to no one in particular “This is your fault.”

This new episode was great and all - but why would you name it “We Take A Zebra to Vegas” when Percy doesn’t even talk to or see the freaking zebra?? Like - that’s so weird.

Piper about Percy: he doesn’t quite live up to the legends about his exploits that I’ve been told
Leo about Percy: he’s scary, but he doesn’t seem to realize it
Jason: hey guys this is my Bro 4 Life Percy :) our dads have been feuding for millennia but we’re cool :) we made matching promises to the gods and he invited me over to his mom’s house for dinner :)

I keep thinking about Miles Morales(Spiderverse) and Percy Jackson AU.
Just. Imagine they think that Miles is a demigod child of Neith (Egyptian spider goddess) and they are just like
"Sadie, Kane, mayyyyybe we know one of yours, so they keep trying to get to Miles and to led him to a safe place, but then the kid is like "Nope, radioactive spider, yada yada"
and they just keep fighting because they can make sense of gods having children and all that but miles just wanna swing around, and cmmon he have both his parents wtf, and no way the gods do exist, science is the way, and wait a fucking minute, this guy can control water? How tf did he did that? Maybe another posible spider people power? O maybe he's a villain?
And they keep trying to get one another to accept that they're wrong and need help and idk
just, i find it hilarious, that's all.
