Do you know WHY Luke even killed himself just to DEFEAT Kronos? He was going to sacrifice himself so that Kronos could rise again, and that was HAPPENING! If he'd sacrificed himself, he would probably have thought that there was a chance of the gods going back to their original system, but there was a possible CHANCE of Kronos establishing a better system!

It just drives me MAD every time I think about it. Luke's 'redemption' arc was unnecessary since it only served to make him look better in the eyes of the protagonists who were actively upholding a cruel system, though they were manipulated children too.

Also, the thing about Luke being a pedo and Annabeth's reply, it's always so annoying to me, because Luke was NEVER a pedo-he simply wanted to know if she still loved him after everything that he'd done and honestly who WOULDN'T?

I mean imma be frank with ya, I talked about the whole Pedo thing so much I'd just repeat myself. So in story canon Luke sacrificed himself for Annabeth after he realized how horrid Kronos actually is and she managed to get through to him with her iconic "Family, Luke, you promised!" line. Out of canon? My honest belief is that Rick just had no idea how to get rid of Kronos, so he pulled Luke's "redemption" outta his ass. Because not gonna lie? Even as one of the most hardcore Luke apologists you can find, I still think that his "redemption" was not good and shoehorned in. A good Redemption Arc needs to be, well- an arc. It needs proper set up, execution and aftermath. All that simply didn't happen with Luke. The entire "arc" basically happened in TLO where he was already possessed by Kronos. Now where there signs of him not being totally fine with Kronos and his methods? Yes, most certainly. But he still went along with them, even if he wanted an out. Luke still chose Kronos over the gods. In every single one of his appearance Luke has been characterized to completely despise the gods above all else, to the point of him actively choosing the cause over those he loves (which, btw, in this case is something I support). At the same time has the whole Kronos possession been set up as final ever since it was introduced. Luke get's possessed and Luke is dead. Dead dead. No coming back from this.

So for Luke then, in the last possible second, be "snapped out of it" by Annabeth? When Kronos was already possessing him for a considerable amount of time and very close to gaining his full titan form? Yeah, that doesn't make any sense. And if you now consider that Percy and co. literally had no way to really defeat Kronos without at least Percy dying due to the prophecy, it really makes you think wether Luke's whole sacrifice was actually planned out for the story or just a way for Rick to wrap it all up nicely without having to merk his MC.

so the...i guess pseudo-incest of lukabeth coinciding with all of the other layers of their relationship is really fucking facinating to me. you have luke feeling almost fatherly towards annabeth in the early demigod diaries days, then she says he's like an older brother to her in tlo...but ofc you also have her crush on him in tlt, and Whatever his death speech was that's gonna be debated about until the end of time.

so how do luke & annabeth feel about each other?

& what if it's all of the above?

so in this scenario you've given me anon, i kinda crafted together an AU in a similar space as my power of neptune lukercy college AU. i'm imagining a percabeth breakup pre-college, though they both go to New Rome Uni, & luke is the resident advisor for percy's dorm (per his sentence of service to the gods for sparing his life, Or Whatever). luke & annabeth meet again, and although it's been years and everything is different, they both have this desperation for things to go back to the way they once were. they find themselves in a bubble of unspoken peace, growing closer than ever before, especially given the aftermath of the war & annabeth's distance from percy. she finds herself in need of an old friend turned...whatever they are.

& luke has good intentions. probably. he probably wants to, at least.

i think at a certain point in something-or-other semester, annabeth & luke have done...some things together. it doesn't even feel like a natural progression to their relationship—it feels like just another piece of the puzzle, just another equal element to all the late-night study dates and in-depth talks. they haven't done all the things—& probably at luke's insistence, too. he wants to be sure that she's making good choices, & although he knows he's Not a good choice, he can't help but give in to how much he wants her sometimes.

luke would probably be very...apologetic in bed, & take his time, using his experience with only annabeth in mind. iykyk 😵‍💫

& annabeth knows that percy already knows about their relationship. he wants to drown luke in the little tiber, & it's only at annabeth's insistence & an urge for normality that he doesn't.

thalia would probably hunt luke for sport if she knew. so she doesn't.

needless worldbuilding aside, i can picure a day like any other in which annabeth is getting ready to go to lecture. luke is lounging on her bed, catlike, reading a book but not really reading so much as watching annabeth change clothes. she puts on a skirt and one of piper's crop tops, just because she likes to feel cute sometimes. she can feel luke's eyes on her before she meets his gaze in the mirror.

annabeth asks if he has a problem. luke tells her he doesn't want her going out like that.

of course, she laughs. that had to be a bit. she could wear whatever she wanted, anyone's opinions be damned. she tells him as much, and that she ought to cut his tongue out if that was how he was going to speak to her.

luke tells her she likes his tongue too much to do that. annabeth's face flushes, momentarily at a loss for words. touché, castellan.

still, they continue this little disingenuous game of cat & mouse. at one point, annabeth asks something along the lines of "who do you think you are, my dad?"

and this is one dangerous poke at the bubble. if this goes wrong, it could shatter this beautiful space of denial that they've created.

luke just gets to his feet, walking towards annabeth. she backs away, further and further until her back hits the wall. she's not scared. she's curious, and excited. and maybe a little nervous, the edges of her emotion tinted with nausea.

luke stands about a half a foot taller than her. he used to be even taller. annabeth wonders if she misses it, or if she wants to get heels to meet him.

he leans towards her, kissing along her jawline, up to her cheek and down to her lips. he kisses her like he's still dying sometimes, and she's the last of his holy ambrosia.

"i just wanna take care of you, babygirl," luke murmurs. he kisses down her neck, hands roaming to explore annabeth's exposed skin as if he were being allowed to for the first time. "let me take care of you, like 'm s'posed to..."

annabeth's stomach drops. she swallows. luke was supposed to take care of her. he failed. and annabeth had picked up the pieces, taken care of herself for the last seven years. in what world should she give luke another chance?

but she does. goddamnit, she does.

she nods. luke drops to his knees like he's praying for his fucking life, more urgently than he'd ever had for a real diety.

annabeth runs her fingers through luke's hair as he puts his mouth to work. his hair is just as soft as she remembers from when she put bows in it as a kid. it's just as soft as she remembers from when she was nursing him with ambrosia after the war.

she doesn't know when or why exactly the word "daddy" slips from her lips, though it does. it's never something they talked about doing. they probably should have had a conversation about that. but fuck it, right? she never called her own dad that, so it was fair game.

luke's efforts falter, the moment possibly the longest in time before he doubles his efforts. he moans against her, the vibrations spurring her to pull his hair harder, to murmer "daddy" between just about every plead and moan of her own.

and then annabeth's hips jolt, and she's coming so intensely that her stomach hurts. she pants, grasping luke's hair like a lifeline, grinding down on his lips and tongue until she's milked every last drop of her high.

annabeth recollects her thoughts and breath, wishing she could stay in post-orgasm bliss forever. she wishes she didn't have to address what just happened.

luke stands, licking his lips, the sight leaving annabeth a little weak in the knees.

"don't you need to be getting to class?" luke asks hoarsely.

thank the gods. he's giving her an out, some more time before they could no longer hold this dynamic up, & everything would come crashing down.

annabeth nods. "you don't mind that i'm wearing this?" she asks, unsure of why she cares.

luke shrugs. "i just like riling you up, babygirl," he grins, grabbing her ass from under her skirt and over her underwear. "wear what you want. i'm the only one who gets to touch you, anyways."

annabeth's attendance at lecture is essentially useless. she can only think of luke & what it all meant—the word "babygirl" on his lips, and the word "daddy" on her own.

My thoughts on Wrath of The Triple Goddess (Light Spoilers)

Just finished the book and ngl, very underwhelming. I know the stakes are supposed to be low and stuff but even Chalice was better with the threat of Elisson and Geras. Running around looking for the pets and fighting those two naiads wasn't cutting it for me. It honestly just feels very superficial and repetitive.

One of my biggest gripes with this trilogy so far is the lack of any real aftermath of what Percy and Annabeth went through in Tartarus, or any other of their experiences (Arachne?) . Like seriously, there's almost nothing beyond the odd mention. I could get better character development and insight from a AO3 fanfic ffs.

And not to mention, as someone who likes seeing the action part of the verse (I love TLO, SoN, and HoH partially for this reason), this book was really disappointing. The fight scenes are few and far in between and most of the time Percy is passing out, getting incapacitated by potions, getting turned into an octopus, etc etc. This should be prime Percy but he fights worse than he did in The Lightning Thief.

Not to seem overly negative, however. There were some sweet Percabeth moments in here I enjoyed. That quip Grover made about Percy's low GPA was legitimately funny. And I enjoyed the little cameos from Mrs. O'Leary, Connor Stoll, Jupiter, Chiron, and a few others. I hope I don't sound too harsh because I don't think my standards are that high anyways, seeing as I thoroughly enjoyed Chalice.

I don't know how to make links so bear with me here and I apologise:

Prelude to sunrise by crystallines. It centres on Alabaster and Ethan in the aftermath of the big battle, Al managed to stop Ethan from dying and now they need to figure out their next move. It can be read as romantic or platonic. It was a little angsty but not so much that I felt like crying for hours after reading it. It's a one-shot and it's only 2,767 words so it's a pretty easy read if you're looking for something to pass the time.

Full circle by crystallines. This one did make me stare at my wall for a solid five minutes which, considering my attention span, is a lot. It focuses on the relationship between Ethan and Silena during the years before and during the war plus a little after. It was, unfortunately, canon-compliant which obviously means death but it was very well written and made me stay put even when it absolutely devastated me. It's very angsty with some hurt/ no comfort but if that's your jam go right ahead. My one piece of criticism is that I feel like Al was pretty ooc but aside from that solid read. It's another one-shot, this time 15,866 words so it's a bit longer but it won't take you very long to read.

From Outsider's Perspective by Kairi_Ruka. This is from the perspective of who I believe is some kind of fast-food cashier who sees a little ta business going on but, as a mortal, has no idea that the scruffy teens they just served were probably there refuelling after a long hard day of trying to kill god, ya know, as kids do these days. This fic includes some light banter between friends and some slightly less angst if you know what's going on. It's a very light read, only 1,797 words, so don't expect a heavy plot but it was a fun read.

Tales From Mount Othrys by jflashandcrash. I feel like I should warn you right off the bat that this is a 124,959 word fic with 45 chapters and counting so maybe clear your schedule of bookmark it before starting. It does contain a lot of OC's so skip if that's not your thing but I did enjoy a lot of the characters. I like that this fic has some comedy without shying away from the horrible acts done by both sides in the war. It is a pretty long fic and it covers from before Percy's quest up to botl and I think the author intends to keep going with it up to tlo. Personally, I enjoyed this take on the titan army especially because I haven't really seen it anywhere else and I did like the writing. Some of the paragraphs can be pretty intimidating but if you can read them I suggest you do. It was fun to read and I love how Al was with his sister. Also, I believe this author has written some other titan army fics that I haven't gotten around to reading yet so maybe check them out.

Annabeth had though that fighting in the war would be the hardest part. She had been wrong. The aftermath was even harder.

So many half-bloods had died, and so many others were wounded. The few that had managed to escape death or injury were mourning their loved ones. On top of it all, Annabeth had been given the responsibility of rebuilding Olympus. A great honor? Sure. But there was still a lot of pressure.

It was four o’clock in the morning and Annabeth was overwhelmed with thoughts. Everyone else in her cabin was sleeping soundly. She needed someone to talk to. After going back and forth on the idea, Annabeth sighed, wrapped herself in her blanket, and tip-toed out of her cabin.

It was freezing. Annabeth figured that Chiron had made it colder to prevent campers from doing the exact thing she was doing now. It was like he didn’t trust them or something. Shivering, she finally reached Cabin 3. The lights were off, but she kept seeing a flash of gold light. She figured Percy must be as restless as she was if he was uncapping and recapping Riptide at four in the morning. She knocked on the door. The flashing stopped, and the door opened to reveal the black-haired boy. “Annabeth?” Percy was looking at her, concerned. “Are you okay?” Annabeth blushed.

“I’m fine, I just-“ She sighed. “I can’t sleep.”

Percy shook his head. ���Me neither.”

Annabeth got up her courage. “Can you let me in? It’s really cold.”

“Oh! Yeah, of course.” Percy opened the door more to let Annabeth walk through.

“So,” said Percy, still looking worried, “Are you sure you’re okay? It’s fine if you don’t want to talk about it, I get that, but you seem really stressed and…” Percy sighed. “I’m just worried about you.”

Annabeth smiled. Her boyfriend really was cute when he was worried.

“I’m all right, really. It’s just been kind of hard, you know? I mean, with everything going on. I knew it would be tough, but it feels almost impossible sometimes…” Annabeth felt herself tear up.

“Hey, it’s ok.” Percy wrapped his arms around her, holding her close. Annabeth inhaled his salt water scent and breathed out shakily.

“You’re like, the smartest person I know. If you can’t do it, no one can.”

The Last Olympian Thoughts

So because I have absolutely 0 self-control or restraint when it comes to this series and its characters, and for The Last Olympian in particular, I could not put TLO down. Because of this I figured I couldn’t do the usual photo reaction posts I have been so far, because the spam would just be ridiculous, so I am stealing the idea from @yourstrulytaaay​ to do a masterpost instead. (Adding a Read More cause this got ridiculously long)

Fun fact, TLO came out right after i finished reading the series for the first time so it's the first PJO book i bought  and my only hard cover one for the og series. I checked the year and turns out it was published 2009, which means i was actually 9 when i read the series for the first time. I realize this is not really a fun fact but i thought i was older when I first read the series so it's blowing my mind a little ‘cause now I’m 21 and everything hits different and i still have so much love for this series and the characters Okay onto book thoughts: - i was right that this book is gonna destroy me, the first line alone made me so excited and nostalgic it's ridiculous - I love Rachel and Percy sm tbh. Her being a bit of peace and normalcy in his life without always reminding Percy of who and what he is is so good for him. Just a little escape

- of course by the end of the book that's not the case any more but by the end he's lived his prophecy so he doesn't need it as badly, plus he and Annabeth are solid again - Percy saying Annabeth has been hard to be around lately... Ouch my heart. Luke really is the last thing that keeps them from being together and Percy is so jealous and Annabeth so torn and in pain, i feel so bad for them both

- Beckendorf 🥺🥺 - the telkhine with the Lil Demon lunchbox!! I forgot about him. Percy: 'i left him alive, partly because his lunchbox was cool' is one of my absolute favourite lines tbh - Paul taking Percy crabbing and being imperative in helping Percy kill the giant crab 💖 Paul Blofis is important and deserves the world, okay? - aw Percy, you can't save every demigod bb

- 'i had to fight him eventually. Why not now?... What difference would a week make?' Oh Percy you have no idea - real talk tho, the fact Kronos possessed Luke's body would also mess me tf up. Percy keeps forgetting it's not Luke anymore and yeah, that would be so so hard and confusing af, like what another smart little mind game for Kronos to pull on top of everything else - the fact Percy fights Kronos before getting the Achilles Curse and actually doesn't die within seconds is... Astounding. He kicks him in the chest! And yeah Kronos is weaker and still adjusting to Luke's body, but Percy is having trouble fighting Luke cause they used to be friends - Percy breaks Kronos' time magic!! Like?! Boy is POWERFUL.

- OUCH - honestly Luke, Thalia and Annabeth's family breaking the way it did... Don't talk to me. Poor Annabeth, Luke betrayed them, Thalia joined the Hunters because of Luke's betrayal so she's pretty much AWOL all the time and then Luke dies. Like Rick wtf, my heart can't take it? -Percy and Tyson having each others backs when talking to Poseidon in the underwater palace is the brother-brother relationship we love to see - Percy trying to stick a sand dollar in the vending machines at school 🤦🏻‍♀🤦🏻‍♀ - the whole underwater interaction at Poseidon's palace? Perfection. Awkward family drama and all - Connor falling out of the tree when he sees Percy because he's so excited 😂😂

- k, ik Clarisse isn't perfect but tbh if i was a child of Ares whose father was disrespected and hated by my fellow campers (ares deserves it but still) and that disrespect trickled down to how the other campers treated ME (which if Percy is reliable here, it obviously does) then i would also be irritated at being used for muscle and nothing else? And just expected to fight with the people who act as if they'd rather not have Ares kids around the rest of the time. Like Clarisse isn't totally wrong - Percy reading the prophecy, seeing he's meant to die and just being like 'i do not see it' and refusing to outright think about it makes me so sad for him - (but it taints every action after and he's super reckless afterwards bc of it- including finally breaking and accepting the Achilles Curse) - (also him taking this as the last straw and finally beginning to show Annabeth how he really feels, cause fuck it, he's dying anyway) - Give me more info about Rachel's backstory and family Rick!! -  how did i forget Percy willingly eats chocolates that taste like cardboard because 'i didnt have anything against cardboard' like sir? Ik Silena didn't want them but still? - 'she'd always been cute, but she was starting to be seriously beautiful' STOP, MY HEART CAN'T TAKE IT - Percy staring at Annabeth and forgetting what they're talking about cause hes so distracted 👌🏻

For some strange reason.... - i forgot how Percy totally bombs this convo bw them and now want to cry 😭 Annabeth is trying to talk about what's important and Percy, you sweet oblivious man, you're shooting her down without even realizing - love that they're both on the same wavelength tho. Percy two lines before, hmm it's cool to date ppl from other cabins, wonder why im thinking that around Annabeth, my best friend in the world, and then Annabeth a beat later, hmm, let me bring up Silena and Beckendorf and how it's important to be with the people you love when you have the chance, no way Percy will miss this huge hint right? - they're the best - k i honestly forgot Percy full on physically intimidates Leneus like that - luke telling his mom if he ran away the monsters wouldnt get her..i can just imagine luke crying when he says good bye before running away because he thinks it's his fault his mom is like that and he cant take care of and protect her anymore because it's too hard - uh oh now i have angsty pre-lightning thief luke fic inspo... Him, Thalia and Annabeth on the run... The ANGST -  Rick holds absolutely nothing back in this book and i am in pain - HESTIA!! 💖💖🥰 - actual loml - i love that Rick titled this book after her and that he wrote such a great series about the importance of family (biological, found or otherwise) and home, and that he said actually Hestia is the most important bc shes the most humble and keeps the peace and knows when to fight and when to yield and you protect what you love, which is your home - i just... Adore Hestia - Grover! Missed you babes - Hades is so so horrible to Nico, always comparing him to Bianca :/ - but i do love Hades, Persephone and Demeter together they make me laugh - oh god the River Styx - Achilles 🥺 - Annabeth being Percy's lifeline is, and continues to be, A Lot™ - 'my name was Percy Jackson. I reached up and took Annabeth's hand.' LOL Why am i crying? - Like the fact there is no Percy without Annabeth, and that remembering her literally reminded him of who he is in his very soul... It's fine im fine - i won't even get into the parallels of her being his lifeline now and then later when Hera takes his memories but leaves the memory of Annabeth for Percy to fight to get back to (anyone who wants to yell about it with me... Feel free to message) - badass Percy is my fav Percy tbh - him defeating Hades?? Like? Hades is arguably the most powerful god, okay - i feel bad for Nico but if i was Percy I'd do the exact same, Nico, sorry man but this is a high stakes time crunch deal and Nico is literally the only hope of persuading Hades and distracted by his own internal stuff - flashbacks to Luke, Thalia and Annabeth hurt, ow - George and Martha are the best - damn i forgot Hermes full on nearly kills Percy here, yikes - Luke stop cockblocking Percabeth challenge

- i love!! Percy's love for New York!! So much!! - Percy leaving to live in New Rome in HoO is a lie and this is all the proof i need for why - the fact the entire last half of the book is the battle and aftermath... Such great buildup and pacing. All the tricks and twists and battles in this War of Manhattan? I would not take out a thing, Rick, you legend - of course then the final battle in hoo with the gods is what? Two pages? Ugh, don’t talk to me about my hatred for BoO and HoO - 'no detours you two' is still the cutest thing!!! - THE HUNTERS!! Thalia i missed you - good job Percy, you finally spent your sand dollar - Minotaur!! - 'dont i get a kiss for luck? Its kind of a tradition right?' Percy finds out he's gonna die and is out of fucks to give and honestly I support him - also Michael just standing beside these two while they're flirting like umm 👀 👀 while a monster army marches towards them, nbd - Annabeth taking Ethan's knife meant for Percy!!! Cause she just knows his weak spot without him even telling her! They literally invented love - Feral Percy is so scary omg, i love how well Rick incorporates the Achilles Curse in this novel, with the whole heightened weaknesses and stuff ans the parallels to Achilles arrogance being what killed him and Percy's loyalty, fierceness and protective instinct being his own heightened weakness - the fact that Percy is the one who inadvertantly kills Michael Yew tho, I'll never recover from that - the fact Hades offers Maria di Angelo a golden palace by the Styx like how Poseidon offers Sally a palace under the sea tho. Let's talk about that parallel - the entire talk with Prometheus is so so good - not me picturing young Luke hiding in the closet to get away from his mom when she has an 'episode' -i love callbacks in stories and all of the callbacks to the rest of the series in this book make me very happy (medusa, minotaur, the underworld, Rainbow!! My baby!!, Daedalus and more) - Percy summoning a wholeass hurricane against Hyperion - the Party Ponies! They're so chaotic, i love it - Dionysus! 😁 I can't help it, i love him - Percy absolutely losing it when he sees Sally and Paul asleep in the car 🥺 - Rachel telling Percy he's not the hero screws with him so much :( poor bb - although i really really love how Rick wrote this, it's so refreshing to not have one chosen one save the world, but a combination of people - the drakon, Silena and Clarisse make me cry - the Patrochilles references, im not okay - Annabeth giving up on Luke after hearing what he did to Silena and Percy telling her that doesn't make him happy 😭 that whole interaction makes my heart ache - Percy giving Hestia Pandora's pithos 🥺 - and Hades, Nico and the others coming for a final attack is so badass, i love it - listen im glad the og trio were the ones to confront Luke on Olympus but the fact Thalia got so close and then pinned by a statue of HERA makes me so sad. Ik her and Luke were finished and she coped by cutting him off completely and giving up all hope but i would pay money to know what they would have said to each other to say goodbye - Ethan 🥺 - Poseidon joining the fight against Typhon is so cool, such a great scene - 'PEANUT BUTTER!' - Annabeth you brilliant badass you - RIP Luke, you werent great but you werent the worst either - the gods just rolling up seconds too late, wondering wtf happened in Olympus and who the dead body is - the chapter where the Olympians meet and give out rewards is one of my absolute favourites (again i am incensed we didn't get anything like this in HoO) - will Percy turning down immortality ever not make me scream in glee? No? Alright then - Annabeth being relieved like Percy was relieved at the end of Titan's Curse tho - oh Hermes :/ - its so hard reading all this and knowing what comes in HoO... Like it's such a cathartic, earned and mostly happy and peaceful ending and then HoO comes along and undermines it all - aww Rick let Paul see Olympus somehow pls, he deserves it, he killed a dracanae - (i would also love to see it) - Percy being more upset Rachel took his pegasus than her going to Camp and possibly dying, lol, priorities dude - i honestly think that Rick had other ideas for the second Great Prophecy and how things would go down in BoO, cause the prophecy like... Barely applies to BoO, Doors of Death are in book four, and explabations of it is all so unclear when Rick is usually pretty good with that stuff - PERCABETH - lol Percy complaining about privacy when he and Annabeth are caught kissing literally in the middle of the very open and public dining pavilion, okay - BEST UNDERWATER KISS OF ALL TIME - that's it and im a glass case of emotion - very happy to say that this series remains my favourite of all time 💖

oh my god yes, fyi this is going into sibling territory because thats my jam

the night that Nico comes out to Percy they run into each other on the beach and have an actual conversation

they talk about quite a lot, but some of the main points are Percy coming out to Nico as bi and talking about Luke, as well as Nico formally forgiving Percy for Bianca, and Percy teasing him about Will

Literally no one is handling the aftermath of tartarus well, but at one point Percy hears a comment about him and Annabeth being too codependent. After that he spends a lot of nights in Nico’s cabin, or Nico will go to his.

Not a lot of actual sleeping is done, so Nico starts teaching Percy how to play mythomagic

Percy is realllllly bad at it, but not worse than Jason

Sally loves Nico, like a lot

Nico ends up spending a lot of time at the Jackson apartment when he wants a taste of “normal” life

Sally likes to feed him, but she never says he’s too skinny

They keep in pretty good contact when Percy goes back to high school 

Nico hasn’t gone to proper school since he was 10 and he loves to tease Percy about it

But back to the good contact thing, they get back to how close they were between BotL and tLO, actually closer

After a couple months Percy starts calling Nico “Neeks”

It’s by accident at first, but Nico never corrects him

Their whole sibling dynamic really gets cemented when Hazel starts calling Percy her brother, a few weeks later Nico starts referring to Percy and Hazel as his siblings, which later turns into Nico calling Percy his brother

When Nico runs off occasionally Percy is the only one that can ever find him

He grabs Mrs. O’Leary, catches his scent, and then goes to find him. Usually they just end up sitting in silence for a couple hours before going to one of the camps or to the Jacksons’

One of Nico’s favorite things to do is just show up on the fire escape outside of Percy’s window at various times and startle him

It becomes a running joke with a lot of their friends, and basically everyone except Annabeth enters the apartment through Percy’s window

Percy hates McDonalds with a passion, but he’ll always take Nico, he just goes somewhere else for his own food

Sometimes when Nico hasn’t slept in a really long time Percy will drive him around in the car like a baby until Nico falls asleep

They like to brag at who spends more time with Reyna, and they’ll send each other taunting messages. When it comes to the amount of time they’re actually even, but Nico’s is more sporadic 

they have an ongoing argument on whether or not you can dip fries in milkshakes (Percy says yes) ((and he’s right))

alright i am feeling nostalgic for 2014 right now so here is a basic outline/concept for a percy jackson/supernatural crossover fic that i’ve had bouncing around in my head for about a year now

in all likelihood i won’t get around to writing it so if anyone wants to take this and run with it please go ahead

- basically the idea for this is to be an episode of supernatural

- sam catches word of a potential case up in new york, around long island

- there’s been a mysterious killing of a teacher at a local school, suspicious circumstances that make it look like something magical/divine is at play

- they head up there and infiltrate the school as janitors, trying to get to the bottom of it

- question students, teachers, the whole shebang

- one night as they are staying late to “clean up” (keep watch and investigate further) they are confronted by an empousa (who had previously been disguised as a student at the school)

- they attempt to fight it, but are struggling - until three kids rush in holding weapons made out of a strange, glowing material and proceed to battle with and kill the empousa

- in the aftermath, annabeth starts questioning sam and dean, suspicious that they’re monsters. but grover assures her that they’re mortal, albeit mortals who can see through the mist...and seem to know a lot about fighting monsters

- then we get a scene in which both sides try to sit the other down and explain that gods and monsters are real, except they say it at the exact same time and they both assume the others are mortals/don’t know anything. hilarity ensues

- once they understand enough about each other’s worlds, they decide to team up and stop the monsters.

- it’s not 100% cooperation though - sam and dean are worried and trying to protect these kids, they don’t want them turning out like them. So they try and prevent them from doing the really dangerous stuff

-the kids on the other hand are dismissive of Sam and dean, like what do they know? They’re just mortals. So they don’t trust them fully, but they have an uneasy alliance going on as they try to solve the case

- turns out a whole gang of empousa have infiltrated the school in preparation for the upcoming titan war (this takes place sometime between botl and tlo)

- the rest of the episode is a pretty standard “working a case” episode but it’s different this time bc the trio is there! Apart from the obvious butting heads, there could be some fun moments as a result of the team up (sam and annabeth bond over research, etc., each side learns to not underestimate the other)

- when the last empousa is killed, she cackles and whispers that they’ve achieved nothing, that the war with kronos is imminent.

- in the ending scenes of the episode, sam and dean drive the trio back to chb.

- maybe a funny moment where dean tries to see in and is bounced out

- in that classic supernatural way (you know) they’re like “you gonna be alright? sounds like you’ve got a big storm coming”

- the trio are bleeding, bruised, and exhausted, but they still stand strong with defiance and nod. they’ve got this. they have to.

- impala drives off into the sunset and the trio makes their way up camp half-blood hill towards their inevitable war.

This was all just plot but also sprinkled throughout there could be some longing on the part of dean and sam for the way of life of the chb kids. a sense of structure, someone to properly train them as kids and keep them safe. a place where they could find community - even if they couldn’t be normal kids they could at least find kinship in those like them. On the other hand the pjo trio would get to meet Competent Adults and really think about their future - do they want to be fighting for the rest of their life? Also it would be pretty inspiring for the kids to see these people who aren’t even demigods but who’ve dedicated their life to fighting monsters solely to keep people safe.

Her writing is divine. The words flow together, the pacing is set to a tempo that keeps you captivated, and the writing is enrapturing and simple at the same time. She explores perspectives and scenarios I’ve never seen used before, and does so marvellously as well. Wonderfully brilliant.

fic rec! 57K pernico story that ignores HOO

Summary: America falls and Japan becomes the new center of the Western move, prompting half-bloods to choose to stay or go. A year into his time in Tokyo, Percy finds an old friend visiting him.

Comments: This is one of those few fics that I’ve reread. Probably because there’s a good portion of this where Percy’s life is just a train wreck. But I love how the relationship between Percy and Nico, and Percy and Annabeth, is told in its physicality. It’s not just the sex (this fic is all limes, so no smut here) but how they hold hands, lean on each other, explore the city. There’s also a bit of that old fashioned Victorian travelogue going on here - seeing and learning about Tokyo through the eyes of Percy showing it off.

HOO doesn’t happen here (I think the fic’s too old), so it also touches on the aftermath of TLO and it’s lingering effects. The deaths, the overshadowing of being known as savior of the world. There’s half-bloods that go on to be great in the mortal world, and half-bloods who just want to find what makes them happy. Everyone here feels fleshed out and real, from old campers to the new ones.

I just finished The Blood of Olympus, and I still find it...lacking I guess is the best way to describe it. (Long explanation below the cut)

It feels so anticlimactic given how much the entire series built up to the final fight with Gaea. And it feels like everything is just resolved too quickly and easily, especially when you reread because you already know everyone we care about lives. The Last Olympian was such a better end to a series. Octavian was a cartoon of a villain compared to Luke. TLO’s climax and the aftermath felt so much more meaningful. (Where were the gods with their rewards this time around? Maybe the gods didn’t think the heroes’ actions were worthy of godhood this time around, but the seven, Reyna, and Nico all deserved SOMETHING.) And I think the true meaning of the Great Prophecy was more clever, interesting, and unexpected than the true meaning of the Prophecy of Seven. 

A lot of this book felt like it was just set up for future series. Everything that happened with Apollo barely had any real relevance to the outcome of THIS series. It was just set up for The Trials of Apollo. This is another thing TLO accomplished much better. That book focused on it’s own story and concluding the series arcs, and then only at the very end did it drop a few hints about future stories. And those hints seemed more subtle. We know now that Rachel’s prophecy obviously referred to the storyline in a new series, but it might not have. The way that part was written, it very well could have just been there to show that there will always be uncertainty and things to worry about in the future. But all the hints in BoO make it TOO obvious that there’s more to come. 

Also, during this reread, I kept track of some of the hints characters gave about how things would play out in the end, and not all of them happened (at least as far as I’m aware, I might be missing something). Frank was supposedly the one who frightened Gaea the most, but he played a minor role in her ultimate downfall. There was never any follow up with Hazel’s curse. Is it actually gone? If it is, what made it go away? Just the fact that she met Frank, or that she trusted him with the truth? Jason was supposed to be Hera’s “final play,” but he wasn’t. He had more of an active role in Gaea’s downfall than many of the others, but technically Leo had the last move. And Hera, for all her relevance in the first two books, hasn’t been involved in the story at all since MoA and only showed up in this book to get yelled at by Zeus. I was expecting some more involvement in the plot line since the whole thing was initially her plan and it got her into so much trouble. 

But I think there’s one thing in particular that makes this book something of a disappointment to me, and I’ve finally been able to identify it. This series up until this book was very much an ensemble story with the emphasis on the seven demigods uniting for the quest and being a team and the alternating POVs (especially in HoH when we get all 7). But in the end, destroying Gaea wasn’t really a team effort, at least not in the way I thought it would be. This should have been the book with all 7 POVs. Granted, it might have been really difficult juggling 9 POVs total, but as much as I love Reyna and Nico, I don’t think they deserved POVs in this series over Frank and Hazel who I felt were sidelined in this book. And while they all worked together to defeat the giants, they didn’t all work together to defeat Gaea. Leo did all the actual defeating, with Piper and Jason assisting up until the very last moment to get her to the point where she could be defeated. But Frank, Hazel, Annabeth, and Percy just fought in the battle with all the other demigods. At that point they might as well have just been any other demigods. (And Percy’s “big sacrifice” was letting Leo, Piper, and Jason go fight Gaea themselves? That’s the best Rick could come up with? And he did it so easily too. He just ran off to help the demigods from Camp Half-Blood. This is supposed to be his fatal flaw! How is he overcoming this so easily? Annabeth can’t even do that.)

I feel like this series had so much promise and then just fizzled out in the end. I'm hoping the last book in The Trials of Apollo doesn’t have this same problem.
