Pushing aside the fact that I am, quite possibly, a Kendrick fan—disregarding my biases, I think Drake needs to stop. Push Ups was a good diss. Surface level, vapid, but it possessed that mean, petty spirit that carries a diss track all the way. Even bringing up accusations that are, realistically speaking, unlikely still works because a diss is supposed to show just how much you hate a person and how cleverly you can bring it.
Taylor Made was weird. I get that it was a strategy. Drop the main diss first and then drop this one to really prod at Kendrick. Using Pac and Snoop AI voices sucks though. Distilling Kendrick as Taylor's underling also doesn't work because Kendrick only collaborated with her once (twice when they remade Bad Blood) and that's it. Meanwhile Drake is out here always looking for new, up and coming artists to pounce on their trends or cling to established artists. Then it got taken down, because of course it would have been. You used 2Pac's voice. Did you really think his estate, his family, wouldn't do anything?
So he bought Pac's ring and used his voice without permission. More and more we see just how much of a vulture Drake is.
And then Euphoria drops.
Your first diss was met with solid reactions. Your second got taken down. Kendrick drops on a random hot Tuesday, and in a matter of hours surpasses your numbers that took weeks to accumulate. Kendrick did that. Euphoria was also harsh, clever, and sounded so good that people kept replaying it over and over again. Once more, Kendrick schools you.
A few insiders then say that Drake will drop that night. Right after. But he then allegedly gets cold feet. A few hours later from when Drake was supposedly ready to drop but backs out, Kendrick drops 6:16 in LA.
In your previous disses, you begged Kendrick to drop something with quintuple entendres. Euphoria did that. But he took it a step further by naming his second diss 6:16 in LA.
June 16: Father's day. Referencing the fact that Drake has been proven to be a deadbeat father.
June 16, 1971: Tupac's Birthday. Kendrick idolizes him. Drake steals from him.
June 16, 2019: First episode of Euphoria drops. A show Drake is listed as a producer on. A show about underage girls entering a life of sex, substance abuse, and more. Things that Drake has been accused of repeatedly in the past.
June 16, 2011: in June 2, 2011, Kendrick posted on his twitter that there will be a concert at Toronto on 6/16. Allegedly this is where Drake and Kendrick first met.
6:16 AM: The time of release for this track.
6:16: Multiple possible Bible verses, given Kendrick's Christian background.
Other claims felt like reaches though, so I'll stick to that.
The final two lines of 6:16 also reference the Michael Jackson, R. Kelly, and their song "You Are Not Alone". Drake, who has always claimed he is Michael Jackson or at the very least his equal/successor, is now tied to him in a way he does not want. Because we know all of the dirt that came out after MJ's death. We all know what R. Kelly was sent to prison for. And we all know what Drake has been accused of multiple times.
Kendrick also alludes to the fact that you have a leak in your circle, Drake.
So Drake drops Family Matters. A scathing 7 minute song that makes fun of the GKMC van. Saying that Kendrick's daughter isn't his. Saying that his wife cheats on him with security. Saying that he beats his wife.
Now, these are enormous accusations levied. But Kendrick has responded before, years ago, that the DV accusations were false. He has also always been open about his faults. Adultery. Sex addiction. Insecurity. God complex. Kendrick, for better or worse, has always laid out nearly every aspect of his younger life on his songs. This also helped by the fact that in both Euphoria and 6:16, Kendrick says that Drake has spent millions on finding dirt on him but came up with nothing. Again, these accusations can still be proven true and if so, Kendrick needs to be held accountable for them.
But if not? Then Drake just adds another to the pile of "He's a liar and a master manipulator."
Drake also posts a Parody on his Insta that gains little to no attention because 30 minutes after dropping Family Matters and supposedly going on his victory lap, Kendrick drops meet the grahams.
Another thing. 6:16's cover was a glove. That meant nothing to us, the audience. meet the grahams makes it make sense by zooming out of the glove and showing off a shirt and drugs that Drake supposedly uses. Drake has not had any receipts with his accusations against Kendrick. Kendrick puts Drake's supposed prescription, his full name, on a bottle of Ozempic. Kendrick, for now, seems to make good on his threat. OvO, Drake's company, is full of leaks. And they're leaking it straight to Kendrick Lamar.
Nearly 24 hours later, Kendrick drops Not Like Us.
Euphoria was a general character dissection and assassination of Drake: Insecure about his identity as a biracial man. Culture Vulture. Blaccent user. Code switcher. Fake abs. Womanizer. Misogynist. Using black features just to feel black enough. A deadbeat dad that knows nothing of raising a child. And even revokes Drake's ability to use the N-Word (I have no stake in that I am Asian so I will keep my brown mouth shut for that).
6:16 in LA was an ominous threat that slowly reveals that Kendrick has insider information on Drake. That he is ready to leak so much more should Drake continue.
meet the grahams is a brutal open letter to Drake, his parents, and even to Adonis, Drake's son. Saying that Kendrick could be a better mentor to Adonis. Saying that Drake abandoned you and that's not your fault. Don't be like your father—whatever anyone says, for better or worse, you are a black man and don't code switch just to make yourself feel better. He says that Drake failed his mother for what he did to women. Saying that Drake's father is the cause of his gambling issues. Drake is a body shamer. Leaving the mother of his children to rot. And of course, the reveal that Drake has a secret daughter, the same way Pusha T revealed Drake has a son. Adonis.
And of course, now. Not Like Us. Where Kendrick goes all in on one topic that he has alluded to in every diss track before. Drake is a groomer. A pedophile.
I am sick. I should not be tuning into this beef. But my fever can go ahead and end me, I need to know how this ends.

Honey would please write something like when Armando left his gf she is a hacker and a weapon specialist without saying anything turned out that's not the only person he left behind. ( Tiny a baby girl who like to hold a wooden spoon ) They meet again when they going to the ammo squad in bad boys for . Her Kelly are besties . Very very angst.
(I accidentally deleted the ask, but I wrote it down before I did so above is the prompt for this, asked by anonymous)
Regrets and Punishments
❥Summary: Armando knows he made a mistake. He knew when he decided that his mother was more important than his girlfriend. But he planned to return to her, he did. He never could’ve anticipated being gone for as long as he was. Seeing her face again was like getting shot: You get that adrenaline rush, yet the pain ends up biting you in the ass later on. Especially when he discovers what, or dare I say, who he also left behind all that time ago.
❥Warnings: Slow burn, kidnapping, language
❥Word Count: 2.7k
❥Part 1/2
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AN: I’m ngl I’m not sure if you meant that you wanted them to have a kid or not, but I wrote it just in case, let me know if that's not what you wanted and I’ll rewrite it! (I also gave the kid a name)
I think I’m going to make this a two parter because I kinda took this prompt and ran with it lol
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He never thought he’d see you again. As much as he didn’t want to, he accepted the fact that he’d fucked up your relationship when he decided to leave you in favor of helping his mothers’ dirty work. He didn’t even give you so much as a call after he’d left to let you know that he was even alive. He only hoped that you were doing fine on your own.
Nonchalantly, Armando walked through the door to the house of the people Mike and Marcus knew, not giving a damn about the warning to stay outside like Mike had told him to. No wonder a gun was drawn and pointed at him as soon as he stepped foot in the home.
“Woah, woah! Kelly-” Mike began his attempt to mediate the situation, “I asked you to wait outside for a second… Alright, Kelly, he’s with us.” Standing in between the gun and his son.
“He can’t be here.” Kelly retorted, keeping her gaze on the wanted criminal standing before her.
“This is my son, Armando.”
“I know who he is and that’s why he can’t be here,” The gun never faltered as she spoke with a solid, demanding voice, “I trust you with my life, but I sure as shit don’t trust him.”
“I trust him,” Mike confirmed.
“Then take him to your house.”
Dorn cleared his throat, trying to release some of the tension that had built in the room. Armando said nothing as Dorn came over to try to calm his girlfriend, and Mike took his son to the opposite side of the room.
Marcus sat down on the couch in the middle of the room and snatched up a bag of chips, “This is some dysfunctional shit.” He said, looking back and forth between the two duos.
They came back together after a minute or two. “She’s fine,” Dorn said.
“She don’t look fine…” Marcus expressed, taking in the obvious irritation and discomfort on her face.
“I’m fine.”
“Yes, you are.” Everyone turned in the direction of Armando, where he only opened the fridge to grab a drink.
“It’s the language barrier,” Marcus explained to Dorn.
“It was English!”
“It was definitely English.”
“I have to call someone. I’ll be back,” Kelly said, picking up her phone and already beginning to dial, “If I’m going to do this I’m gonna need another girl here. She’ll be able to help with the tech stuff too.”
“Is it–” Dorn began, but cut himself off when Kelly nodded, “Tell her to leave Demi at home, we don’t know what kind of shit we’re getting into.”
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When you got the call from Kelly, you weren’t entirely sure what to make of it. She told you she needed you to come over, but when you asked her why, she only said something about emotional support”. You’d tried to press her for more details but she only mentioned having some people over and needing your tech skills. After a while, you just decided you’d go, but not before you handled your own business.
“Demi, come here please!” You called out while folding another shirt, making a nice crease and adding it to your pile of similar neatly folded shirts.
The aggressive pitter-patter of small feet hitting your hardwood floors alerted you that the person you’d called for was on their way.
“Mama!” You felt the bed on which you were folding clothes dip a bit as a weight threw itself into the soft mattress. You smile when you set your eyes on the girl who is smiling to herself contently—your daughter.
“Mimi, mama has to leave soon,” You said as you picked her up and set her on your hip so you could continue to fold while holding your toddler, “Tiara should be here soon to look after you, okay?” You say, referring to your babysitter that you should probably be paying more considering how many times you’ve called her in the past week or so.
“Mama leaving… again?” Your heart dropped when you watched the smile fade from your daughter's face when she realized you were going to be gone and she was going to be left with the babysitter for what felt like the hundredth time. You always felt bad when things like this came up but… you couldn’t just blow Kelly off. Not after all she’s done for you.
“Yes… Mama’s leaving, I’m sorry baby but I promise I’ll be back as soon as I can okay?” You tried to cheer her up by giving her stomach a few tickles but your daughter was as stubborn as they come, her pout seemingly permanently stuck to her face.
The doorbell stole your attention and you gently set your daughter down. She followed you to the front door, and when you opened it her permanent pout was replaced with nothing but… confusion. You joined her in sporting this facial expression when you both looked at the stranger at your doorstep.
“Can I.. help you?” You ask the woman. She had a soft smile on her face, but for some reason, it didn’t seem welcoming.
“I’m your babysitter.” The woman replied.
“Um… I’m sorry there must be some mistake. My usual babysitter’s name is Tiara, I called her a while ago-”
“Tiara asked me to come here in her stead, she isn’t feeling too well, unfortunately. I’m a coworker of hers.” The woman explained, but you weren’t convinced. Tiara hadn’t mentioned any of this to you when you called her-
Just then, as you were about to make up your mind about whether or not you wanted to slam the door on the lady, you received a message from… Tiara.
3:34 Tiara (Babysitter): Hey, so sorry for the inconvenience but I’m not feeling good today, I sent over my coworker because I know you needed a sitter ASAP! Her name is Sara.
“What was your name again?” You asked, slowly taking your eyes off of your phone and to the lady, still wearing that smile on her face.
“Sara.”
You look her up and down once more before stepping to the side to let the woman inside. Your daughter hid behind and clung to your leg, only peeking out when she was sure the strange woman was not looking at her.
“Um… This is Demi,” You gesture to the girl who has glued herself to your right leg. You try to get her to say hello but she refuses. Sara stoops down to your daughter's level and tries to wave at her but Demi only scooches further out of sight. “The fridge is fully stocked, there are only a few weres, really: Don’t invite anyone else over, no drinking, oh and her bedtime is 8:30.”
“Please do not worry, I’m sure me and Demi will have a great time together.” Sara expresses, that damn smile still plastered on her face. There’s something about this lady that you just don’t like, but if Tiara sent her then it’s probably just you overreacting, right?
“Right… Could I get your phone number, just in case?” You say. She recites her number to you and you quickly enter it into your phone and save the contact, just in case of an emergency. You then turn around and kneel to look your daughter in the face.
“Be good, okay Mimi? I promise I’ll be back soon,” You say, giving her a quick peck on the forehead and a hug. She looks extremely hesitant and to be honest, so are you, but you’re already running late… “I love you.”
“I love you too,” Demi says meekly.
You smile and turn to leave.
If Tiara sent her, there shouldn’t be a problem, right?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You parked in front of the house that your best friend and her boyfriend lived in. You had no guesses as to why she called you here, but if your technology skills could be useful to her, you’d want to help in any way you can.
You knock on the door and after a while, Kelly answers but stops you before you can go inside. “We kind of got ourselves in some shit, we’ll fill you in.”
She grabs your wrist, pulls you inside, and closes the door shut. The first thing that you lay your eyes on is the monitors that Dorn was sifting through. Pulling up various pictures of people and files that look confidential.
Should I even be here right now…?
“What's the situation?” You ask as you move towards Dorn.
“Remember when we told you all that stuff about Captain Conrad–”
“(Name)?”
You pause when you hear your name. The voice sounds so familiar you're almost scared to turn around and see who it was that called you. You think you know who it was that called, which is probably another reason as to why it takes you so very long to fully turn and face the man that has broken your heart time and time again.
It’s like the world stopped. All of a sudden, everyone in that room except for the man in front of you was irrelevant. There were so many things you wanted to say, yet no words left your mouth.
What is he doing here?
Why is he here?
All of the emotions flowing through you quickly became too much. Without a word, your feet guided you to the nearest room in which you could be alone.
“Do yall know each other?” Mike asked, but received no answer when his son went after the girl, “Do they know each other?” He asked in a more general way, but was met with nothing. The tension silenced everyone.
You ripped your arm out of the hand that had caught it when you reached the empty room. “Get the fuck off of me! What the hell are you doing here?” You exclaimed angrily. All of a sudden, all of those feelings you felt were entirely replaced by rage. Anger, directed at the man who’d left you without a second thought.
“I–” Armando began, but was cut off.
“Y’know what, I don’t care! Get the hell out of my face!”
“(Name), wait– stop,” He said, grabbing hold of your bicep when you tried to turn away from him again.
“You have some fucking nerve!” You growled, entirely in shock of the fact that he thinks he’ll just have a nice chat with you, “I haven’t seen your ass in years! Not a fucking call, or even a damn text! Nothing!”
“I know, I know, I didn’t plan on it being like that,” he pointed out. In actuality, he had no clue or reason as to why he followed you here. He knew he fucked up their relationship and a few words wasn’t going to change that fact. So why was he so desperate to get you to hear him out? He was never like this. It’s been years, why do you still have this weird affect on him?
“Yeah? Well I never planned on being abandoned by you, but look where we fuckin’ are now. Get the hell away from me,” You seethed. He had no clue how hard you were trying not to cry, “I said get the hell off of me!”
You snatch your arm from his grip. Deep down, underneath all of the anger that had boiled up to the surface, you’d missed Armando. You really did. Dealing with the pain of losing him, and never hearing from him until, well now. Taking care of Demi–
Does he even know about Demi? Does he know he’s a…
“Guys, so sorry to interrupt but we have a problem,” Kelly announced from around a corner. You hold eye contact with Armando for a few more seconds, trying to read his face but ultimately giving up. You didn’t want anything to do with him anymore. You stomp out of the room, and he lags behind you.
Upon entering the room where everyone was gathering around Dorn and his monitors, you see he is tapped into someone's security feed, which you quickly find out is Marcus’ and Mikes’ homes where their families were. Dorn was notifying the police to send backup and you realize that there are people attempting to break into the homes. Does this have something to do with their investigation with Captain Conrad?
Mike and Marcus grab their phones and quickly make calls, telling their people to hide, and leave their houses. You watch the cameras and watch as the masked men make their way into the two guys’ respective houses.
“Fuck, fuck!” Marcus says when he watches someone from his house grab a gun from a safe and hide the rest of the family in a closet. You can only home that whoever Marcus decided to trust with his family’s safety was skilled.
Everyone watches and commentates on the man's performance in the security feed, taking down the trespassers one by one until he is able to safely transport the rest of the family out of the house, but not before saluting to the security camera for us onlookers to see.
Mike is not so lucky, as he is not able to reach his wife in time to warn her and the girl who was with her at the time. We all have to watch when she’s easily overpowered and tied up. Mike is still on the phone with her, able to hear everything that’s going on.
A sudden devious voice sounds through the phone, one that was definitely not his wife, “Mr. Lowrey.”
“Who am I speaking to?” Mike lowers his voice and says in a serious tone.
“I think you know who you’re speaking to,” the voice says ominously, “I need your boy, and whatever evidence your beloved Captain has foiled away.” You eye Armando whose eyes were flicking back and forth from the phone to Mike, “And for that, you can have your wife. I’ll call you back with instructions.”
“Ah, shit…” Mike grumbles, but the man on the other side of the phone has not yet hung up.
“Ms. (Name), I know you’re there as well.” Your heart drops to your toes. What could this man want with you? “I’d go ahead and check the security systems for your house as well.” A beep was heard as the man hung up and your eyes widened. No…
He wouldn't, right? You had nothing to do with this operation.
Nevertheless, you pushed Dorn out of the way and pulled up your homes’ cameras, and scanned for anything out of the ordinary. You spotted Demi playing with dolls in her room. The only thing was that you couldn’t spot the babysitter, but you figured she must’ve been in the bathroom.
You let out the breath you didn’t realize you were holding in.
“Who’s kid is that?” Armando spoke up. You looked over but didn’t fully turn around, fearing he’d already figured it out, and just wanted clarification. You were afraid. You were afraid that if he found out, he’d come back into your life. Demi’s life. You didn’t want to get hurt again. You don’t think you could handle him leaving you again, so you stayed silent. You left the question to hang in the air.
The breath you let out was sucked back in when you saw your front door open slightly, then all the way and three masked intruders walked in. “Fuck!” You exclaimed, snatching up your phone and dialing the phone number you’d received from the new babysitter before. She answered after one ring, which you were entirely grateful for, “Sara, grab Demi and get the hell out of there, now. Please!” You frantically spew out. You’d be surprised if she caught any of that.
There was no response on the other end until Sara spoke, “There’s people in the house?” She asked, too calm for your liking.
“Yes, so grab Demi and get the fuck out of there. Take the window if you have to, they’re searching the living room right now,” You say, watching the men search the living room and kitchen, slowly making their way down the hallway which they would find your daughter.
Again, no response. That is, until the chilling words made their way into your ears. “Finally, I was wondering when they’d arrive.” And she hung up.
Your eyes were blown wide enough to where you were sure you were going to start hearing colors and seeing sounds. You were speechless and your heart was racing a mile a minute as you watched the ‘babysitter’ pick your daughter up and… deliver her to the intruders.
You could only watch, helpless as your daughter was kidnapped.
What the hell just happened?

I am FULLY ONBOARD the Harris/Waltz train, tho before this i was leaning towards Mark Kelly (AZ is a swing state! He's an ASTRONAUT!) If you want or have time, no pressure, but any thoughts on what makes Waltz a better pick?
I like Mark Kelly too, and since he's married to Gabby Giffords (having run for public office after she got shot and could no longer do so) he would have been an amazing pick in terms of supporting the first female POTUS. But he is a less charismatic public speaker than Walz (for whatever that's worth, but politics is a mess of Aesthetics and Vibes that matter as much and/or more than actual facts) and more moderate/conservative. He's been a great senator and picking him would defuse some of the BORDER IMMIGRATION BLAH BLAH!!! scaremongering that Republicans love to run on, but it would also leave open the possibility of losing a special election and other dangers with the Democratic senate that we really need to minimize. So Walz is a better choice for that alone, but also:
He really has serious progressive credentials as governor, even if he was a fairly mainstream Democrat (who flipped a rural red House district in Minnesota that Democrats have not been able to win again after he left) during his 12 years in the House. This is an INCOMPLETE LIST of what he was able to do in two years with a one-seat Democratic majority in Minnesota:
A Climate Action Plan that included:
Investing in energy infrastructure
100% carbon-free electricity by 2040 goal
Transition off of fossil fuels and onto clean energy resources
Building more electric vehicle charging stations
Providing funding to help workers acquire new skills through apprenticeship programs in clean energy fields
Direct state funding for transit
Money for rail
Tax credit for e-bikes
Permitting form to fast-track clean energy projects
And that was in addition to:
Codified abortion access in Minnesota
Guaranteed paid sick time and paid family and medical leave
Funded replacing ALL LEAD PIPES IN THE STATE
Free school breakfasts and lunches for all
Made public college free
Stronger labor protections
Drivers’ Licenses for All
Voting Rights Act to reverse recent court rulings that make voting harder, including restored voting rights to convicted felons
Banning medical debt from credit bureaus
The "Taylor Swift Bill" requiring all ticket "junk fees" be shown up front
Banning most "junk fees"
No book bans
Protection for tipped workers
Banned non-competes
Legalized recreational cannabis
Gun control, including increased penalties for straw purchases of firearms, expanded background checks and enacted red-flag laws, passing gun safety measures that the GOP has thwarted for years
Made MN a Trans Refuge State, and required health plans to cover “medically necessary gender-affirming care.”
Pay increase for Uber and Lyft drivers
Elimination of the so-called “gay panic defense”
A ban on “doxxing” election workers
A prohibition on “swatting” elected officials
In March, during the height of the Gaza/uncommitted primary protests against Biden, Walz said that young people should be listened to and they had a right to be speaking up and the situation in Gaza was horrible and intolerable, without directly slamming Biden or getting involved in the issue in a way to draw negative headlines. Regardless of what you think about any of it, that is a very deft way to handle it and pairs well with Kamala's better responsiveness on the Gaza issue overall. That was a big part of the reason why Gen Z/younger voters were very excited about Walz despite him being an "old" (actually the same age as Kamala but he has joked that teaching high school for 20 years will do that to a guy) white guy. If half the battle in politics is making the right pick to excite your core voters and reach out to new ones, then Harris nailed it. As I have said in earlier posts, there was just too much energy with young voters FINALLY checking in when Harris became the candidate, to risk introducing a big ideological split with Shapiro.
Aside from that: the most insufferable Smart White-Bro Political Pundits (TM) are big mad about Walz, many Never Trumper Republicans thought they were entitled to a "moderate" in exchange for oh-so-generously lending us their vote against Trump and not run the risk that we might end up with someone *gasp* progressive, and the regular MAGA Republicans are hysterical, which means they're terrified. It's also incredibly hard to paint Literal Midwestern Stereotype Dad (football coach, social studies high school teacher, military veteran, etc) as THE EVIL END OF AMERICA in the way they desperately want to do, though the fact that they're trying shows that they've got literally nothing. The fact that Kamala picked Walz against the PREVAILING WISDOM!!! that she had to take Shapiro (for whatever reason that might have been) is also a good sign, because by far the most genuine and extensive enthusiasm that I have seen from Democratic voters, especially those feeling burned out or disillusioned or angry with specific policy choices of the current administration, was for Walz. Having everyone excited for the pick beforehand, effectively using the "weird" line, and rallying behind the guy, only for her to actually go for him, is inspiring. It makes people feel like they're being heard and the Democrats have decided to win by being progressive, and not just endlessly Catering To The (Imaginary) Middle as they have always been told to do (and often done). That alone is MASSIVE.
Walz is tremendously funny, personable, has Democrats from AOC to Joe Manchin praising it (again, shocking), was right out the gate supporting Kamala, has already been majorly successful on TV, was by far the most progressive-on-policy picks of the VP finalists, is incredibly, hilariously wholesome and small-town Midwestern (he's the JD Vance that they wish JD Vance was), and is already sending ActBlue gangbusters with donations again. And when you're getting this kind of response on the Cursed Bird Hellsite, just:
Just. I don't know what's happening either. But let's enjoy it, and then work hard, because we gotta fucking do this and for possibly the first time this entire year, I really think we might. Heck yeah.

Pairing/s: Daniel Ricciardo x Australian!Red Bull Athlete!Reader (Platonic), Charles Leclerc x Australian!Red Bull Athlete! Reader
A/N: Had the idea that the reader is a speed skater because why not. However there's only one slight mention of that at the end so you can imagine the reader to be any athlete.

Public events were always the worst, but that came with being an athlete for Red Bull. It was yet another one of their sponsor events that all athletes had to attend so here you were in a fancy black tie dress surrounded by lots of sponsors and lots of other athletes that also probably didn’t want to be there.
The dark blue dress hugged your figure in just all the places that it needed to. Accepting a flute of champagne from the server walking around the room, you settled down at your table in front of your name place. Looking at the names around the rest of the table ,you sighed as you didn’t recognise any of them.
Ten minutes later, people started sitting around the table. The names on the table help you find out their names without having to have an awkward conversation. Scotty James was the first person to sit down. Now that you’d seen his face, you knew who he was. You’d spoken to him a few times at past events.
“Oh hey Y/N” He smiled, and you looked over
“Evening Scotty. No wife this time?” You asked, and he shook his head
“No, she's at home. Wasn’t interested in another one of these events” You nodded while taking a drink of champagne. More people started to sit down, and throughout the night, you started hitting it off with Daniel Ricciardo.
~~~
A few months after the event, Daniel had invited you to watch a Grand Prix after staying in touch. Being a Red Bull athlete meant that cameras were on you from the second you walked into the paddock. Daniel is waiting at the side for you with his signature smile
“Y/N L/N” He cheered, holding out the syllables as he walked over. You smiled, giving him a hug
“Daniel Ricciardo” You laughed while walking with him.
“So I’ve been thinking” Daniel hummed, and you turned your head to look at him
“That’s not a good thing” You joked, and he rolled his eyes
“You were complaining the other day that you saw some tyres getting more attention than you have recently, but I came up with a plan” You raised an eyebrow, looking at him
“That doesn’t sound like a good idea, and I don’t even know what it is” You muttered, and he laughed
“I’ve got a friend. He’s also a driver, but he’s also very single, and I think you’d be a perfect match together” He explained
“I am not going out with Lando Norris” You warned, and he laughed
“No it’s not Lando” He shook his head
“You got Max and Kelly to break up?” You joked, and he rolled his eyes, walking into the garage with you
“I did not. Do you trust me, though?” He asked, and you looked at him sceptically
“Not really no” You shrugged
“Never mind I’ll take my date back then” You rolled your eyes
“Who’s this date with then?” You asked
“You’ll see. You don’t happen to have that dress from the night we met, do you?” He asked
“No, not in Monaco” You shook your head
“Do you have any like that in Monaco?” He asked
“Kinda? I’ve got a red version of it. Well it’s not similar in any way, but I’ve got a red long dress in my apartment. But the blue one’s back in Melbourne” You shrugged
“Wear the red dress then. You’ll be picked up at seven tonight. That’s all I’m saying”
“You don’t even know where I stay?” You frowned
“I was hoping you’d tell me that detail” You laughed, shaking your head.
And so at seven o’clock there was a knock on your apartment door. You grabbed your purse, walking over to the door and pulled it open to see the person you least expected standing at your door. Neither of you said anything as you just looked at each other.
“Woah” He mumbled, causing you to smile slightly
“Woah yourself” You hummed
“You know, when Daniel said he was setting me up, I didn’t know what to expect, but it definitely wasn’t you” He smiled.
“I could say the same thing Charles” You smiled, taking his hand as he held it out for you. You walked down to his Ferrari with him. Smiles covering your faces as he helped you into the car.
“So where are we going tonight, Mr Leclerc?” You asked as he got into the car as well.
“Well I obviously had to find somewhere for both our diets, but there’s a little restaurant that I quite like next to the harbour, so I figured we could go there?” He suggested, and you nodded
“That sounds like a good plan” You smiled, looking over at him before turning to look out the window at the views that were passing. When arriving at the restaurant, Charles got out of the car first before rushing around to help you out. Passing the keys off to a member of staff that would park the car safely for him.
Getting seated was easy. Charles had made reservations asking to be hidden in the back of the restaurant so that you could enjoy yourself without having to have fans asking either of you for autographs or pictures every couple of minutes. Or the worst thing. Fans taking pictures without you realising getting the worst angles. You both ordered your drinks and food, opting for non-alcoholic drinks not even because Charles was driving but because your diets didn’t really allow alcohol.
“So why Monaco?” Charles asked
“I’m actually only here on holiday. I live in the UK” You confessed, and he nodded
“Why Monaco for a holiday then?” He chuckled, and you smiled
“Daniel invited me to the Grand Prix and after meeting him at a Red Bull athlete event. I actually got into the sport, so when he offered, I couldn’t say no. I’d like to end up retiring in Monaco, though. Sell both of my houses and just live here” You explained and he nodded
“It’s lovely here. Although I may be a little biassed but oh well” You let out a laugh
“So you’ve got a house in the UK, but where’s your other?” He asked, leaning back in the chair
“Melbourne obviously” You laughed, and he nodded
“Should have seen that coming” You nodded
“Let me guess. House in Monaco and house in Italy” You guessed
“Spot on. Hotels everywhere else” He nodded, and you chuckled. The conversation flowed easily about your different training and different lifestyles but also things that you had in common.
“I’ve always wanted a dog but with all these competitions and travelling it just never felt right but when I retire in Monaco the first thing I do except find a home is get a dog” You nodded and he chuckled
“Just out of curiosity, what kind of age do people in your sport retire?” He asked, tilting his head a little
“I’ve got about a year left realistically, but I’m aiming to reach the 2026 winter olympics before I retire” You sighed
“Sorry. Didn’t mean to ask it like that” He winced a little, and you shook your head
“No, it wasn’t you. Don’t worry. I just hate that I had to pick a sport that requires such early retirement. I love skating, and I think I’ll always skate, and obviously, going at speed is very enjoyable” You both laughed at the statement
“Maybe we should sign you up for a hot lap. See how you enjoy our kind of fast” You smiled
“I would very much enjoy that. I know for a fact you go about two hundred miles an hour faster than I do” You chuckled, and he frowned
“How fast do you go?” He asked, and you shrugged
“About thirty-five miles an hour? Roughly. Give or take depends on the day, where I’m competing, and who I’m competing against” You shrugged as his eyes widened
“Seriously?” He asked, and you nodded
“Deadly” You smiled
“Maybe I’ll have to come watch you work one day” He smiled, and you tilted your head
“That would be so much fun getting you on the ice with me”
And so you did. During the break between a couple of races, you got Charles onto an ice rink and skating with you. He wasn’t enjoying it as much as you were, but it made for a great second official date. Something you’d never tell Daniel just yet.
I Knew You Were Trouble
Ex!Evan Buckley x reader
Eddie Diaz x reader
TW: Emotional and physical cheating (from Buck), heartbroken reader, 118 supporting reader, Eddie picking up the pieces, angsty fluff.
══════ ∘◦❀◦∘ ══════
Evan Buckley. The moment his piercing blue eyes showed up at the 118, Y/N knew she was in for it. His flirty smile, the forward flirting, it was hard not to fall for it. Y/N has never been the type to fall for a guy just because he flashes a smile, but something about the way his nose crinkled whenever he grinned at her, it made her heart flutter.
Y/N L/N has always had a strong personality. She was part of the LAPD for five years before going through the Fire academy. She was the best in both of her fields. Always professional, super playful, witty, reasonable, and always down for a good time. That’s why she fit in so well with the team at the 118 when she was placed there. Hen and Chimney were the first two she met, then Captain Bobby Nash came rolling in. He clicked seamlessly with them too. And then… Buck.
On paper, he was perfect. At least in Y/N’s eyes he was. Despite his constant need to go against Bobby’s orders, she could never truly dislike the boy. Did she think he could be irrational and dumb sometimes? Absolutely. But that’s one of the things she found endearing about him.
And that’s also the reason he fell for her. Everyone on the team treated him like some idiot kid who was just a ticking time bomb. But not Y/N. She treated him like an equal, like a partner. Even when he immaturely would flirt with her on shift, tease her, blatantly but playfully check her out, she still never once genuinely got irritated with him.
So when the two of them started dating, the team wasn’t necessarily surprised. It was around that time a new recruit came into the 118. Edmundo Diaz, or as he likes to go by, Eddie. He was the missing piece the 118 needed. It felt like a full fledged family when Eddie showed up. He and Buck didn’t get along at first, but Y/N, being the effervescent force she is, managed to make them get along.
The team was amazing. Going on calls was a breeze because they all just worked so well together. Even team outings were an absolute blast because everyone got along. They are truly one big happy family.
Of course though, Eddie, Buck, and Y/N always had a deeper connection with each other than the others. Perhaps it’s because they’re so close in age, but they truly just clicked. When Eddie originally showed up to the firehouse, he wasn’t oblivious to how genuinely beautiful Y/N is. Her infectious smile and booming laugh would catch any man or woman’s attention. He would have pursued her if Buck hadn’t already won that battle.
They were always relatively professional at the job. Out of the two of them, Buck seemed to have the hardest time keeping his hands off of her. Stealing kisses here and there, smacking her behind when he thinks no one’s looking. They were happy, and anyone with eyes could see it.
At least until Taylor Kelly came into the picture.
When they got the call that her news helicopter had a mechanical failure, no one really thought anything would’ve came out of it. Y/N was pretty much in the midst of all of it, being the one to pull Taylor out of the situation while the rest of the group helped her crew and got the copter under control.
However, despite Y/N saving her life, the redheads attention was solely focused on Buck. Something that not only Y/N noticed, but the rest of the team.
It only got worse when Taylor showed up to the firehouse, claiming she would be following the 118 crew around until she felt comfortable enough to go back into the sky. Not only was Bobby annoyed, but Y/N wasn’t too thrilled to be seeing her around. Especially with the way she’s been paying special attention to her boyfriend.
Now, Y/N has never been the jealous type. She knows Buck is good looking and that other people are bound to think so too. Whenever they go out, there’s always one or two drunk individuals that try to slip him their number, but he’s never entertained any of them. After the whole Abby fiasco, his eyes have only ever been on Y/N.
That’s why she tried her hardest to ignore Taylor’s persistent behavior. She also tried to ignore how much Buck seemed to enjoy the attention. She had to remind herself of how much she loves and trusts Evan Buckley. Still, some reassurance would’ve been nice.
Anytime she’d talk to Hen and Athena about it, they’d share a look before saying that it’s just Buck’s personality. He’s a flirty guy. But that he’s never been as committed to someone as he is to her. That was always nice to hear. Even Chimney and Bobby found small ways to tell her that she has nothing to worry about.
That’s why it stung so much to walk into her apartment, one that she asked Buck to move into to get him out of Abby’s, only to find him and Taylor naked on her couch.
Her entire world crashed down around her that night. Neither of them seemed to even hear her walk in as they were still mid action and didn’t look like they were stopping anytime soon.
Y/N being as quick witted as she is, snapped a photo of their dalliance before spinning on her heel and slamming the door behind her. Anger, hurt, frustration, grief, any emotion someone could think of, she felt it that night. As soon as she got in her car, tears started flowing freely down her face. She had no idea what she was going to do with that photo. Some part of her just knew she needed proof, a reminder of what she just saw. Because she knows as soon as Buck comes crawling back to apologize, she’d forgive him in an instant.
That’s why she picked staying in her car for the night over going back there. Even though it’s her apartment, her safe space, she couldn’t bear going back. Not right now at least. Every single call he made went without an answer, all the texts, emails, all of it. She didn’t even bother to read.
Sleep didn’t come easy for the poor woman. In fact, it didn’t come at all. She simply stared out her front window, arms crossed as she buried herself deeper into her hoodie. So when the sun came out, Y/N couldn’t have been more relieved. Work was the one place where she wouldn’t have to confront this. Maintaining professionalism is of the utmost importance to her, so for the next twelve hours, she can shove all of these issues to the side.
Y/N walked into the 118 station that morning with an air of quiet fury. Her normally upbeat energy was replaced by a stiff, almost mechanical demeanor. The shift in her mood was impossible to miss. Her jaw was set, her eyes distant, and the usual lightness in her step was gone, replaced by rigid, purposeful movements. She walked past the common area without so much as a word, heading straight to the locker room to stow her gear.
The station was never completely quiet, but as Y/N entered, it felt like the atmosphere shifted, as though everyone unconsciously held their breath. Bobby was the first to notice her as she passed by his office.
“Morning, Y/N,” he greeted her, his usual warm smile in place. But Y/N, normally quick with a bright ‘Good morning,’ barely glanced his way.
“Hey, Cap,” she muttered, not slowing her pace. Her voice was flat, a stark contrast to her usual chipper tone.
Bobby frowned, watching her as she moved further into the station. He’d been a captain long enough to know when one of his firefighters was struggling with something, and Y/N’s behavior set off alarm bells in his mind. She wasn’t being rude—she was too professional for that—but her unusually short response made it clear something was off.
Y/N reached her locker, tugging it open with more force than necessary. Her hands moved quickly as she shoved her bag inside, not caring that it landed haphazardly. She was wound so tightly that every movement seemed deliberate, controlled, like she was holding back a flood of emotions threatening to escape.
Hen, who had been watching from the other side of the room, approached carefully. She knew Y/N well enough to see that something was seriously wrong. Normally, Y/N would joke about the early mornings or make some witty comment to lighten the mood, but today, she was all business.
“Hey, Y/N,” Hen said softly, leaning against the lockers beside her. “You okay?”
Y/N paused, her hands gripping the edge of her locker door for a moment before letting out a sharp exhale. “Yeah, I’m fine,” she replied curtly, closing the locker with a loud clang.
Hen didn’t buy it, and neither did the rest of the team, who were now quietly exchanging glances from across the room. Chimney, watching from the doorway, nudged Eddie.
“Something’s definitely up,” Chim whispered. “She doesn’t look like she’s slept.”
Eddie’s gaze was fixed on Y/N, his brows furrowed in concern. She was usually the first to crack a joke, the one to bring energy into the room, but today, her whole demeanor was different. She was stiff, guarded, and Eddie could see the tension in her shoulders, the way she was holding herself together with an almost frightening precision.
“Y/N,” Eddie called out softly as he approached. “You sure you’re okay?”
Y/N glanced at him briefly before looking away, her lips pressed into a thin line. She appreciated the concern, but she didn’t want to get into it—not here, not now. “I’m fine, Eddie,” she said, her voice clipped but not harsh.
Eddie didn’t push, though his eyes stayed on her, worry etched in every line of his face. He knew Y/N well enough to know that ‘fine’ wasn’t fine at all.
As Y/N moved through the rest of her morning routine, the tension around her only grew. Her movements were brisk, efficient, but there was a hardness to her that wasn’t normally there. She didn’t engage in small talk, didn’t banter with the team like usual. The shift in her behavior was like a cloud hanging over the station, and everyone could feel it.
Then Buck walked in, his entrance loud and hurried, as though he was already feeling the weight of the guilt on his shoulders. He looked disheveled, like he hadn’t slept, and his eyes immediately locked onto Y/N.
Her entire body tensed the moment he entered. She could feel his presence without even looking at him, the air between them thick with unresolved tension. She didn’t want to deal with this right now—especially not at work. But Buck, clearly desperate to make things right, approached her anyway.
“Y/N, can we talk? Please?” Buck’s voice was quiet but urgent as he moved toward her.
Y/N stiffened even more, her back straightening as she turned to face him. Her eyes were cold, and her lips pressed into a tight, thin line. “Now’s not the time or place, Evan.”
He flinches at the cold use of his first name, “Please, Y/N, I just… I need to explain,” he said, his voice cracking slightly as he took another step closer.
Y/N tenses, her grip tightening around the locker door. She swallows hard, mortified that he’s bringing this up here, in front of everyone. She glances around and sees Chimney and Eddie looking at Buck with something akin to disgust. Hen’s brow is furrowed in confusion, and even Bobby has stopped pretending to read the morning paper.
Y/N hesitated, hating that he’s cornering her in the only other place she thought she’d be safe. The woman was trying so hard to stay professional, but he wasn’t making it easy. She could feel the eyes of everyone in the station on her, and the last thing she wanted was to make a scene.
“Fine,” she muttered through gritted teeth, motioning for him to follow her to a quieter corner of the station.
Once they were away from the rest of the team, Buck wasted no time. “Y/N, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean for any of this to happen.”
Y/N’s eyes flashed with anger, her composure slipping just a little. “You didn’t mean for it to happen?” she repeated, her voice low and dangerous. “You’re telling me you just accidentally ended up screwing Taylor on my couch?”
Buck winced at her words, his guilt written all over his face. “I—I wasn’t thinking. I was confused.”
“Confused?” Y/N’s voice was sharper now, her anger bubbling to the surface. “That’s your excuse? You didn’t know what you were doing?”
“I was in a bad headspace, Y/N. It just—” Buck struggled for words, clearly not understanding how badly he was making things. “It didn’t mean anything. You and me, we’re the real thing. That with Taylor… it was just a mistake.”
Y/N’s eyes widened, disbelief and fury warring in her chest. “A mistake?” she echoed, her voice trembling with the effort of holding back her rage. “No,” she scoffs. “No. No, a mistake is when you lose your keys. What you did was make a blatant choice without thinking of the consequences.”
Buck’s face flushed, and he shifted uncomfortably under her gaze. “I didn’t mean for it to happen like this. Please, I can’t lose you.”
“You should’ve thought about that before you cheated on me!” Y/N snapped, her voice rising. The anger she had been holding back all morning finally erupted, spilling out into the open. Her words echoed through the station, drawing the attention of everyone around them.
Buck’s face paled as he realized the entire team had heard her outburst. He looked around, embarrassment flooding him, but Y/N didn’t care. She was too angry, too hurt to worry about how this looked.
“Y/N—”
“No, Buck!” she yelled, her hands trembling as she tried to hold back the tears threatening to spill over. “You don’t get to do this! You don’t get to stand here and pretend like it didn’t mean anything. You cheated on me. You lied to me. And now you want me to just… what? Forgive you because it didn’t ‘mean anything’?” She shakes her head, failing at stopping herself from making the situation worse. “You try to act like you’ve changed, but you’re still the same freakin’ playboy who had sex with every girl who paid him the slightest bit of attention.”
The station was dead silent. The rest of the team, though trying not to stare, couldn’t help but listen to every word.
Buck’s mouth opened and closed as he struggled for a response, but nothing came out. The weight of Y/N’s words seemed to hit him all at once, and the guilt that had been simmering beneath the surface came crashing down on him.
Before Buck could say anything else, Y/N shook her head, her voice breaking. “I can’t do this anymore. I– I just– I can’t. We’re done.”
And with that, she turned on her heel and walked away, her heart pounding, her face flushed with a mix of anger and embarrassment.
The silence in the station hung heavy until Hen was the first to break it, her voice firm. “What the hell, Buck?”
Chimney sighed, his disappointment evident. “You messed up, man. You don’t do that to someone like Y/N.”
Bobby, usually the voice of reason, stepped in, his tone stern. “You need to figure out how you’re going to make this right. But more importantly, you need to take responsibility for your actions, Buck. This wasn’t just a mistake. It’s a breach of trust. We don’t do things like that to each other.”
Buck looked around, his face pale as he realized just how badly he had screwed up. But it was Eddie who delivered the harshest blow. He stepped forward, his eyes blazing with barely concealed anger.
“You had something good, Buck,” Eddie said, his voice low but full of emotion. “And you threw it away. She deserved better than that. Better than you.”
Buck’s face fell, the weight of Eddie’s words hitting him like a punch to the gut. Eddie never spoke like that—especially not to his friends—but this was different. This was Y/N. And Eddie wasn’t just mad—he was furious.
As Buck stood there, looking like the ground had been ripped out from under him, Eddie turned on his heel and followed Y/N outside. He found her pacing near one of the firetrucks, her hands shaking as she tried to calm herself down.
“Y/N,” Eddie called out softly.
She paused, glancing up at him, her eyes red and glassy. “I’m fine,” she muttered, though it was clear she wasn’t. She won’t let any actual tears fall. Not here. Not at work. She can’t lose it.
Eddie sighs before taking a gentle step forward. He stops her pacing by grabbing her hands as delicately as possible. He can feel the furious energy buzzing through her skin. It’s a rage similar to his own. As he looks into her gorgeous (e/c) eyes, his anger morphs into pain. His heart aches at how broken she looks. She trusted Buck with every fiber of her being and he took it for granted. He took her for granted. How could he throw away such a beautiful soul?
“No, mariposa, you’re not,” he shakes his head. His deep chocolate gaze makes her shoulders slump. Her tense posture falls, knowing that there’s no point in lying to him. For whatever reason, Eddie has always been able to read her like an open book. She couldn’t keep secrets with him. He knew them before she even knew herself. “Everything that happened in there… that’s not fine. So please, don’t pretend with me.”
Y/N finally forced herself to open up. She exhales shakily, blowing a big puff of air out as she laughs brokenly. A small sniffle escapes her, “It just… hurts, y’know? I mean, I kinda picked up on something weird with them, but I thought I was just being paranoid,” she looks back down at her boot-clad feet. “I try not to be jealous, I feel like it makes me look crazy. But… I guess I should’ve trusted my gut.” She sends a halfhearted glare over at Buck who’s still standing in the middle of the fire station, trying to avoid everyone’s wrath. “I’m such an idiot.”
“Hey,” Eddie stops her, a serious look on his face. He moves one hand to cup her chin, forcing her to look back at him. “You are not the idiot in this situation. He is,” he nods in Buck’s direction. “He didn’t see the amazing woman he had right in front of him. He’s the biggest damn idiot in the world for losing you.”
Y/N feels like she can let her walls crumble around Eddie. There’s something about the way his strong presence grounds her, silently reassuring her that he’s there, that he’s supporting her. She relaxes into his soft touch, “I just… I don’t know what I’m gonna do now. I mean, he lives with me.”
Eddie hesitates for a moment before pulling her fully into him, wrapping his arms around her as she rests her head on his chest. “Well, the best answer I can give you is that you continue being you. And trust me, there’s someone out there who’s going to see how incredible you are and never take it for granted. Someone who would treat you like the gem you are.” He pauses before planting a soft kiss on her forehead, “And if you want, you can always stay with Chris and I until he gets all of his stuff cleared out.”
Y/N looks up at him, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. “I think I might take you up on that.” She swallows, trying to keep herself together. “But… what if I don’t want to go through all of that again? Maybe I’m not meant to find anyone else. What if I’m just…done with relationships?”
Eddie’s expression softened even further. He knew how hard this was for her, and part of him hated seeing her in so much pain, especially because of someone like Buck. But he also knew she was stronger than she gave herself credit for. “You’re not done, Y/N. You’re just hurt right now. But you’ll heal, and when you’re ready, you’ll move on. And when that happens, you’ll find someone who’s going to love you the way you deserve to be loved.”
Y/N searched his face for a moment, her breath catching in her throat. There was something in the way Eddie was looking at her—something she hadn’t noticed before. A tenderness, an intensity that made her heart skip a beat.
She blinked, trying to shake off the feeling. Now wasn’t the time. “Thanks, Eddie,” she whispered, her voice shaky but sincere.
He gave her a small smile, his hand lingering near hers for just a moment longer before he stepped back. “Anytime.”
They stood in silence for a few moments, the air between them charged with something unspoken. Eddie wanted to tell her that he was there for her in more ways than just friendship, but he knew this wasn’t the right moment. Y/N had just been through hell, and she needed space to heal.
But he also knew that if she ever needed him—really needed him—he’d be there without hesitation.
Before Y/N could respond, the station doors opened, and Hen walked out, giving them both a look. “Everything alright out here?”
Y/N straightened up, wiping her face quickly and nodding. “Yeah, I’m good.”
Hen gave her a knowing look but didn’t push. “Alright. We’re heading out for a call in a few minutes, so just wanted to make sure you were ready.”
Y/N took a deep breath, mentally preparing herself for the day ahead. “I’m ready,” she said, her voice more steady now.
Hen nodded and headed back inside, leaving Y/N and Eddie standing there in the quiet. Eddie looked at her one last time, his eyes filled with a silent promise. “You’ve got this.”
Y/N nodded, forcing a small smile. “Yeah. I’ve got this.”
As they walked back inside together, the weight of the day ahead still heavy on Y/N’s shoulders, she knew that it was going to take time to fully heal. But with Eddie by her side and the support of the rest of her team, she knew she wasn’t facing it alone.
And as for Buck? She wasn’t sure what the future held, but one thing was clear: she deserved better than what he had given her. And one day, she’d find it. But for now, she’d focus on what she did best—being a damn good firefighter and an even better person.
══════ ∘◦❀◦∘ ══════
Working a twelve hour shift on absolutely no sleep had to have been the worst decision Y/N could have made. It’s not that she isn’t capable of doing her job, it’s just her emotions were already on overdrive after seeing Buck, but now that exhaustion is kicking in, it’s not good for anyone.
She pulls the hair tie out of her hair as she grabs the remaining items from her locker. Her eyes travel over to Eddie who is already waiting by the entrance of the firehouse for her. He sends her a small smile and she returns it, a small flutter in her chest catching her off guard. Y/N internally scolds herself for staring too long. She’s always found Eddie attractive, but she just got out of a relationship with Buck. Now is not the time to be casting ogling glances to Eddie.
She slings her bag over her shoulder before heading out of the locker room. Thankfully, she has enough clothes in her bag for the next few days to bring to Eddie’s so she doesn’t have to go back home. She bids a proper goodbye to everyone, narrowly avoiding Buck who just walked out of the showers. He looks like a wounded puppy when he watches Y/N walk away.
He walks away dejectedly, trying to avoid the angry stares from the rest of the team. Y/N feels a certain level of safety as she continues growing closer to the Diaz man. To her dismay though, someone felt the need to disrupt her journey.
Taylor.
“Y/N, can I speak with you for a moment?” She asks, tilting her head in a way that makes Y/N clench her jaw.
“I don’t really think that’s a good idea,” Y/N replies smoothly.
Taylor persists, “I’m just asking for a second of your time.”
“To interview me professionally or to try and explain why you were butt ass naked on my couch?” Y/N raises a confrontational eyebrow, yet her tone remains collected. Taylor purses her lips, trying to fight off her own embarrassment as more people in the firehouse look over to them. Eddie takes a few steps closer, getting ready to intervene if needed.
“Look, you have every right to be angry–”
“Oh, I know,” Y/N nods, crossing her arms. “I don’t need your permission or you to tell me I have the right to do anything.”
Taylor sucks in a deep breath, clearly getting impatient. “I just think that maybe you’re being too hard on Buck. He really was in a rough place. I think you owe it to him to hear him out.”
“Really?” Y/N lets out a humorless laugh. “I owe him? Oh sweetheart, I don’t owe anyone anything,” she shakes her head, taking a step forward with a condescending smile. “He made his bed, or in this case, the couch, so now he can lay in it,” she shrugs nonchalantly. Y/N looks Taylor up and down before scoffing, “You two deserve each other…” she grumbles before shoulder checking the journalist and finishing her journey over to Eddie.
He watches her with an impressed look on his face, “How’d that feel?” He asks with a small grin.
“So good,” Y/N breathes out with a victorious sighs. “If I could’ve punched her without getting fired, I would have.”
Eddie chuckles, wrapping his arm around her shoulder as he walks her out of the firehouse. “You’re too professional for that.”
“Yeah… I suppose,” Y/N leans into his side.
“Hey, why don’t you ride home with me?” Eddie suggests. “Since you’re staying at my place, we could just carpool in the morning.”
“I can’t just leave my car here,” Y/N says logically.
“You can get it tomorrow,” he brushes off, guiding her over to his vehicle. “C’mon… it’ll be fun. I’ll let you play Hamilton on the way,” he grins, knowing that’ll get her to say yes.
Y/N sighs reluctantly but ultimately ends up hightailing it towards Eddie’s car. It makes her flush at the thought that he pays that much attention to her and the things she likes. She loves musicals and everything related to theatre. It’s a guilty pleasure she’s had since middle school.
The moment they walked into Eddie's house, Christopher came sprinting toward them, his excitement contagious.
“Y/N!” he called, throwing his arms around her waist. “Are you staying over?”
“For a little while,” Y/N said, ruffling his hair. “Think you can put up with me?”
Christopher grinned. “Only if we make cookies.”
Y/N looked at Eddie, raising a brow. “That okay with you, Chef Diaz?”
Eddie smirked, leaning casually against the doorframe. “I guess I can allow it. But don’t think you’re getting out of clean-up duty.”
Christopher grabbed Y/N’s hand, dragging her toward the kitchen. “C’mon! I already know where the chocolate chips are!”
Eddie followed, shaking his head with amusement as he grabbed an apron. “You’ve got him wrapped around your finger,” he teased.
“Oh, please. He’s the boss around here,” Y/N shot back, tying her own apron and bumping Eddie lightly with her hip.
As they worked, the kitchen buzzed with laughter and lighthearted banter. Y/N and Eddie stood shoulder-to-shoulder at the counter while Christopher focused on cracking eggs without shell casualties. Y/N nudged Eddie when she caught him sneaking a handful of chocolate chips.
“You’re supposed to bake with those,” she said, trying to snatch the bag away.
“You’re the one who ate half the dough at the station,” Eddie countered, leaning closer with a playful smirk. “Hypocrite much?”
“Someone had to test it for poison,” she shot back, their faces just inches apart. She realized too late how close they were, her breath catching at the warmth in his eyes.
Eddie cleared his throat, stepping back as he tossed the chips into the mixing bowl. “Poison control. Got it,” he said, his voice quieter now.
Christopher’s cheerful commentary broke the moment, and Y/N refocused, though her heart raced.
Later, as the cookies baked, the three of them sprawled on the couch with mugs of milk and plates of their handiwork. They watched Moana, singing along at Christopher’s insistence, and Y/N felt herself sink into the comfort of it all—a fleeting glimpse of a life she hadn’t realized she wanted.
By the time Christopher went to bed, yawning through his goodnight hug, Y/N felt exhaustion settle over her. Eddie walked back into the living room with a blanket slung over his shoulder.
“You take my bed,” he offered, his tone leaving no room for argument. “I’ll take the couch.”
“Eddie,” Y/N protested, “don’t be ridiculous. I can sleep out here.”
“I wasn’t asking,” he said with a crooked grin, tossing the blanket onto the couch.
She hesitated, looking up at him. “I mean… we could just share. Your bed’s big enough, right?”
Eddie froze for a beat, his brows lifting. “You’re serious?”
“Why wouldn’t I be?” Y/N shrugged, trying to sound casual, though her cheeks burned.
He exhaled and nodded. “Alright, but if you snore, I’m kicking you out.”
Later, lying side by side in the quiet of Eddie’s room, Y/N broke the silence. “I thought Buck was the one,” she admits quietly, her eyes falling as she thinks about everything that’s transpired in the past twenty-four hours. “And, y’know, maybe he was… for a while.” She turned her head, meeting Eddie’s steady gaze in the dim light. “But I’d be lying Eddie if I said I never thought about you,” her voices comes out in a whisper, almost like she’s scared of how he’ll react.
Eddie didn’t answer right away, his expression softening. Then, before she could second-guess herself, he leaned in, pressing his lips to hers. The kiss was slow, deliberate, and unguarded, carrying loads of unspoken feelings. When his hand slid to her waist and she deepened the kiss, Eddie pulled back suddenly, resting his forehead against hers.
“Y/N,” he murmured, his voice rough. “I can’t… I don’t want to take advantage of you. Not after everything with Buck.”
She nodded, her chest tightening with a mix of disappointment and admiration. “You’re a good man, Eddie.”
He smiled faintly. “I’m trying to be.” A small chuckle leaves his lips, “Believe me, it’s not easy. Not with you here, like this,” he gestures to the closeness between them. “I’ve thought about this more than I’d like to admit. Probably an embarrassing amount of times. And while I would love to continue what just happened, I can’t do that to you. Not when your heart just got broken.”
Y/N reaches over to cup his cheek, “Then maybe you can help me figure out how to fix it.”
══════ ∘◦❀◦∘ ══════
Over the next few weeks, their connection only grew stronger.
At the station, Eddie would appear beside her with coffee, their hands brushing in ways that felt intentional. Y/N’s laugh came more easily around him, and the team couldn’t help but notice. Hen caught Eddie sneaking glances more than once, and Chimney started placing bets with Bobby about when Eddie would make his move.
At Eddie’s house, Christopher treated Y/N like part of the family. She helped him with homework, played board games, and joined them for Sunday dinners. Eddie would lean against the doorway, watching them, his heart full.
Things finally felt good for Y/N. Like every single piece of her life fit perfectly. She was getting over Buck while still getting along well with the team. She’s been spending a lot of amazing time with Eddie and Chris. She absolutely loves the little boy. It’s like being apart of them and their routine was that little spark she was missing before.
One evening, after dropping Christopher off at a friend’s house, Eddie finally asked her out. “Y/N,” he began, his voice tinged with nervousness. “What would you say if I wanted to take you out for real? Like a date.”
Y/N smiled, her heart soaring. “I’d say it’s about time.”
Their first date was simple: dinner at a small Mexican restaurant Eddie loved, followed by a walk under the stars. They talked for hours, and when Eddie kissed her goodnight, it was everything she’d been waiting for.
Back at the station, their relationship became the team’s favorite topic. Hen teased them mercilessly, and even Chim couldn’t resist joining in. Buck, though initially uncomfortable, eventually came around, admitting that Eddie made Y/N happy in a way he hadn’t.
For the first time in a long time, Y/N felt like she was exactly where she was meant to be—with Eddie, with Christopher, with a future that finally felt whole.
Maybe I should come off anon to have an actual conversation because I think what you said the whole them not committing to the effects of the Kim arc makes a lot of sense. Character assassination may have been a strong term for me to use but I think I meant it more in the terms of the fact that they kinda threw Kim there and did nothing with Eddie's character about it. Like okay yes, Chris goes away but that's it. And while that is the worst thing that can happen to a parent beyond their child actually dying, the show let's it fall flat. We get a bit of kinda depressed Eddie and the whole find joy priest thing, but for a plot point that could have been so interesting they fumbled it to the point of why even have it? Again I love the concept of the character Eddie Diaz. I have all these things I wish they did but they won't. Like the whole PTSD thing, that's a life long struggle and it's brought up once. They introduced the man by having him remove a grenade from a person outside of a war zone?!! HE WAS SHOT! AND THEY DID NOTHING!!! Sure we can write away he was expecting the grenade to go off he was prepared for it, even the helicopter when they introduced Taylor Kelly (who i also love, kinda wish they kept her around because Buck needs a friend who will tell him when his support system is being shitty and it's okay to be angry with the people he cares about and I feel like her and Tommy would have great bitch out sessions), dont even get me started on the whole fight ring thing. There was zero build up to that besides him punching one guy who definitely deserved it.
And I've lost the plot again. What you said about how they could have handled the Kim situation would have made great TV. And from a writers perspective I can understand why she was a good plot device but from a viewers it fell so flat and was disappointed.
Let me add another random topic. I feel like I would be so much more behind Buck and Tommy if they gave us even one scene with Tommy apologizing to Hen and Chim. As an audience we can assume since they reached out to him for help they must have made up at some point, and I understand the whole internalized homophobia and trying to fit in at the good old boys club had a heavy hand in what Tommy was like in the Hen and Chimney Begins episodes, but I just want one apology about how even if we dont see him activity participating in the whole old 118 being shitty to new people especially POCs, queer, and women how he acted was wrong, he'd probably actually move up to one of my favorite characters. Because god to I love how Lou plays that man, he sometimes does these small gestures or expressions that just scream he's a bitchy gay and it's so fun and at odds of what we usually see of gay men on TV because the man is built and very masculine and usually we only get twinks being the fun bitchy gays not the guy who is ex military and flies helicopters into hurricanes and plays pick up basketball with his buddies.
Sorry it seems your ask box has become my sounding board for my wayward 911 thought.
don't be sorry, I enjoy discussing this show. that being said, I'm gonna be as nice in my disagreements as possible right now.
This is going to get very long, and the first part of this is going to be entirely character meta/analysis, I'm ignoring every outside influence (writers/directors/etc) for the Eddie portion. The more technical side of things will come back into play when I get into your comments about Tommy. I'm going to try and touch on all of the things you mentioned in your ask, so buckle in. I'm gonna put this under a cut because it is obscenely long.
Eddie's PTSD is an undercurrent leading almost all of his character decisions.
He didn't have a visceral reaction to the grenade in the moment, because he was under pressure. He had to stay calm in that moment, triggers be damned. He had no other option. If he had panicked, if he had reacted negatively in any way, it would've made the entire situation - in which he had not one but two people relying on his expertise - so much worse. We don't know how he reacted after the fact, when he was alone, because we don't see it. It's also very possible that grenades simply don't trigger him.
The helicopter, as well. It's very possible that it's not a trigger for him, OR that he's already compartmentalised that particular trauma. It could be context dependent - Taylor Kelly's helicopter went down, yes, however, Eddie wasn't involved in the crash, only the rescue, so he might have been able to separate that from his personal trauma. Same as the grenade; he had civilians (non-military) relying on him to remain calm, to use his expertise effectively. Compartmentalisation is an incredibly important skill, and Eddie seems - at least at first - to have a very good grasp of it.
However, there are only so many traumas a person can take before the cracks begin to show.
There was, actually, a lot of lead-up to Eddie joining that fight club. Shannon, and all the baggage she represented. The insecurity of his relationship with her, the resentment he still held for her leaving, the hope of reconciliation, the pain of having that hope crushed three-fold: first, she wasn't pregnant, second, she wanted a divorce, third, she died in front of him. That is a LOT to handle in a VERY short amount of time. In canon, all of those events take place in under 24 hours. It's hit after hit after hit. This is where his decline starts.
Then, his best friend is crushed by a ladder truck, and Eddie has to watch from the sidelines, unable to help. That would have been a triggering event for him, too, calling back to his last ride with the Army. Buck was pinned, in the "line of fire" as it were, and Eddie was unable to help. There was nothing he could do until the bomber was contained and the threat eliminated. Again, we don't know how he reacted to it once he was alone, because we didn't get to see that, but we can imagine how traumatic that must have been.
Then, the tsunami. Even though he was unaware of Chris and Buck's involvement for most of the day, he still had to spend hours performing search and rescue. He likely came across dozens of corpses over the course of that day, which - no matter how well-adjusted you are - would leave an emotional bruise. And then, of course, at the end of that exhausting, emotionally draining day, Eddie finds Buck. And he finds out that both Buck and Chris were on the pier when the tsunami hit. And he realises that Chris isn't with Buck now. There is a moment there, where Eddie truly believes that his son is dead. Words cannot express clearly enough just how much agony Eddie would have experienced in that moment, especially so soon after Shannon's death. And then the emotional whiplash of having Chris turn up, alive... honestly it's a miracle that Eddie didn't fully break down right then and there.
But you see, all of this trauma compounded on top of each other. Shannon, Buck, Chris, every single hit that Eddie has taken since joining the 118, all of it has built on top of each other, and he's never taken the necessary steps to counter it. He knows he has PTSD, but he doesn't go to therapy for it. So all of this has been building up on him for over a year, without an outlet or healthy coping mechanisms in place to help carry that burden.
That was the build up. The guy in the parking lot was just the first piece of the dam breaking free.
Then Lena introduced him to her hobby: street fighting. She used it to blow off steam, to have fun. She had no way of knowing just how close to breaking Eddie really was, so she wasn't expecting him to latch onto it the way he did. But Eddie took what could have been a healthy hobby - if paired with extensive therapy - and turned it into a necessity. More cracks in the dam, to continue the metaphor; more leaks springing free, with no way to plug it back up. Then the money came into play, and Eddie got hooked. He could fight, and get paid well for it? He could use this to provide for his son? Sold. Another crack.
Until he nearly killed a man during a match, and he had to step back and realise, finally, that the dam was breaking and he was in the tidal path.
But even then, he had to be mandated by his employer to seek help. Because Eddie had been raised with the mentality that men did not need therapy, that therapy was 'admitting weakness' - he was raised steeped in toxic masculinity, and that has shaped every single decision he has made regarding his own life. His stint in therapy is short-lived - only so long as the mandated sessions continue - and then he leaves and never looks back. The dam is patched, he claims, even if it's just with duct tape and chewing gum.
Eddie doesn't effectively deal with his trauma, and so it continues to build up. He's just gotten better at ignoring it, shoving it aside, focusing on the better parts of his life - in this case, his son, his job, his best friend, and his new girlfriend, Ana.
Then the pandemic happens. Even more trauma to add to the list. He has an immunocompromised son, so he can't even be inside his own house for a good few months; he stays with Buck instead, until it's safe for him to return home. His son is struggling with the isolation of the pandemic, not being able or allowed to see his friends, or his caregivers, or his own family, because of the risk factor. Eddie, losing himself in the 'better' parts of life, decides to be spontaneous and Bold, and tries to introduce another person into Chris's life without taking his son's own trauma and insecurities into account.
He's operating on the stance that, well, any day could be his last. He could lose Chris in a freak accident, or he could die on the job, or he could screw up so badly that his parents come and take Chris from him. So he throws caution - and good sense - to the wind. This is common for people like Eddie. He's survived terrible traumas, he's finally happy, and so that happiness must be shared, because it could all disappear in the blink of an eye if he doesn't grab it with both hands.
And he very nearly does lose it all when the well collapses on him.
Eddie is happier, but he's no less traumatised. He still hasn't addressed his past, his grief, his fears, and those are all still building in the background. But he's determined not to care about them.
Which is why the shooting is so jarring.
He was helping, he was doing his job, he was saving someone, and he got shot on home soil. This is another major triggering event, far more similar to his last ride with the Army than anything else he's faced so far. Those "patched" cracks start leaking again.
Again, much of the recovery is glossed over, but that doesn't mean that the trauma isn't still affecting him. As mentioned above, he's gotten very good at ignoring his own trauma.
This is compounded, again, when he and Buck are taken hostage. And again, when he finally talks to Chris. His own son saying that he doesn't want him to die is another crack. Eddie quitting his job is another crack. Eddie losing his sense of self in Dispatch is another crack.
Eddie learning the fates of his former Army teammates is the TNT that brings the dam down completely.
Eddie has been carrying years of guilt and grief and pain and trauma, compounded endlessly and ever-growing behind his nice little wall of denial, but now he has no choice but to face it. Drown in it.
He breaks, properly, for the first time. His PTSD is unmanaged and unmanageable, his trauma is far heavier than he expected it to be, and he's been so busy pretending that he's fine, that he hasn't noticed the detonator in his hands the entire time.
He finally, finally, realises that he needs to seek help on his own terms. He can't be mandated into it, he can't be dragged, he has to take that step on his own, and it's one of the hardest things he's ever had to do, but he does it anyway. Because he knows he can't keep carrying all of that weight forever alone. He needs help, so he finally goes to seek it out.
All of this is an extremely long winded way of saying: the show does, has done, and continues to carry Eddie's PTSD, even if it's not explicitly mentioned on screen all of the time. It doesn't need to be. It's an omnipresent shadow looming over him at all times. Sometimes it's lighter, sometimes it isn't, but it's always there.
Which actually, helpfully, leads me to my next point: Tommy.
An on-screen apology is entirely unnecessary. It's been made clear already through character interactions (as far back as season two) that Tommy has mended his fences with both Hen and Chimney. If you want to see something like that depicted on screen, you'll have to rely on fanfic, because this is not that kind of show. We don't need to be shown every time a relationship is changed or repaired. We're also never shown Chimney apologising to Buck for punching him, does that mean that their relationship wasn't repaired? No, obviously not, they're in a good place now, and it's clear that what happened between them is water under the bridge. The exact same can be said here.
Tommy also wasn't nearly as bad as the fandom makes him seem. He makes two offhanded, poorly thought-out comments in both Hen Begins and Chimney Begins, but by the time Bobby Begins Again happens, he's already on friendly terms with them both. They go out drinking together, they make bets together, Hen and Chim organised a going-away party for him when he transferred stations. It's very clearly presented to us that Tommy has changed his behaviour in the time between Hen Begins and Bobby Begins Again. So why do we need to see him apologise? Through context clues and on-screen interactions, we can see that they're on good terms. Is that not enough? Would Hen or Chimney willingly remain friendly with someone who still exhibits bigoted behaviours? Should we not at the very least, trust these two incredibly intuitive characters to be able to make a judgement call regarding Tommy?
I'm not saying any of this to be rude to you, nonnie, but I do want you to consider carefully why you think it matters more to see Tommy apologise - and what level of apology you would "accept" - rather than to believe what the characters have shown us, which is that Tommy changed, made amends, and is on good terms with almost all of the original 118. Hen likes him, Chimney likes him (enough to keep his number even a decade after Tommy left the 118, by the way), Bobby likes him. Eddie and Tommy click almost immediately when they met. So, with all of that to be considered - and knowing Tommy's own recounting of that time, where he openly admits that he was a worse person under Gerrard as the 118's captain - what do you genuinely expect an on-screen apology to provide?
If you do want to come off anon, I do have my DMs open. If you'd rather continue like this, that's fine by me as well. I only ask that you consider everything I've said here. I'm sorry this got SO long, but Eddie's trauma is a very long topic, and I only covered seasons 2-5.
(This response has taken me an hour to write, so please, please, consider it carefully. I've been as neutral as possible despite my opinions on Eddie and Tommy, respectively, and there's a lot to cover in all of that. Sorry this got so absurdly long, but I'm looking forward to continuing this conversation, in any format you choose.)
Frostbitten Love
Request: Ok ok now you got me jumping on the Antonio train as well 🔥
Maybe an idea where you're working at Firehouse 51 and you both catch each other's attention when he visits Gabby and immediately somehow bond with each other, but due to bad experiences with guys in the past, you ignore your feelings as best as possible while Antonio always tries to get closer to you. One cold winter might, all the power wents off, leaving the district and 51 in nearly full darkness and coldness. A lot of helpers, including Antonio, come over helping the people out, and after some hours you all get a break and he finds you alone. So he sits with you and immediately cuddles you, keeping you warm, which also makes your heart melt and finally giving into him ? ❤️
Pairings: Antonio Dawson x Firefighter!Paramedic!Reader
Warnings: angst, fluff, mentions of abuse (verbal, physical, mental)
You moved from there to Chicago when they needed a temporary replacement and once the one you were temporarily replacing came back none of 51 wanted you to leave so after some begging from Chief Wallace Boden, and input from your team members and begging to Boden, you were a permanent member of 51 as a firefighter/paramedic. While you were in Colorado you were cross-trained to be a firefighter and a paramedic and this was your choice but it was also heavily suggested but your old chief, who you adored very much and he could say the same about you, of course he was sad to see you go but he understood that every firehouse wanted you and knew the day would come at some point. He heavily suggested it because when a paramedic or firefighter was out then someone could fill their spot immediately or if the ambulance couldn't make it to a scene quick enough everyone could do what they needed to do until they got there. So, when you got to Chicago and showed this it became a huge asset to them and that caused them to make you a permanent addition.
As you grew more accustomed to the city and your new firehouse you were quick to make fast friends with everyone and this extended beyond the firehouse, it extended to Intelligence and Med. You got to know them through being scenes or dropping patients off at Med. There was one person on your team that you made fast friends with and you would consider her as a sister, well you would consider everyone as your brother and sister but that is more in the first responder setting this went beyond that. Her name is Gabriela Dawson, she was the one to instantly connect with and she was dragging you to many events and not once you didn’t complain. You learned a lot about each other like she had a brother in Intelligence and she learned that you didn’t have any siblings and that you had just gotten out of a pretty nasty relationship, well all your relationships there were never great though some were good but most were nasty and left you with some crippling fear and some physical reminders of how bad it was. Along with becoming friends with Gabby you grew to know her brother, Antonio Dawson, and you must admit that he was very good looking, you so wanted to become closer to him and you wanted to even date him but that crippling always came back full force and it caused you to stay away.
You could clearly remember how you met Antonio; he had come into the firehouse looking for his sister for some police matter and ran into you. When he saw you, he instantly became entranced and wanted to get to know you more. He thought and still does think you are the most beautiful woman he has ever laid eyes on and nothing you change his mind. You and Gabby had just come back from a call and Gabby had gone to talk with Matthew Casey about something while you took on the job of restocking the ambulance. You had your back turned to him to where the supplies were when you heard his voice and Kelly Severide’s voice. “Hey, Kelly. You know where my sister is?” Antonio’s voice sounded and it was smooth and you instantly fell in love but you weren’t going to show it.
“I think she’s talking with Casey but I will go and get her.” Kelly said
“Thank you.” He said
“No, problem.” Kelly replied and now it was just you and him in the bay. He didn’t speak but you knew he was still there but you weren’t going to make a move. You had gone into your own little space and forgotten about him until his voice was right behind you.
“I’ve never seen you around here before.” Antonio said and you jumped and turned around to him holding your chest where your heart is and breathing slightly heavy.
“You scared the shit out of me.” You said taking your hand away from your chest.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to. I’m Antonio Dawson, Gabby’s brother. She has told me a lot about you but didn’t tell me how beautiful you were.” He said, holding out his hand and you took your free hand that wasn’t holding supplies and shook his hand.
“All good things I hope.” You said completely ignoring the beautiful part. “I’m Y/N Y/L/N. I’m the new firefighter/paramedic. Moved here from Colorado. She has told me many things about you too.” You said and smiled and then released his hand.
“Well, it is nice to meet you and I hope it was all good things you’ve heard.” He said and was about to say something else but Gabby came over to the two of you.
“I see you two finally met. Kelly said you wanted me?” She had said pointing the last part towards her brother.
“Oh yes. It was about your last patient.” He said and you looked at her.
“You can tell him. I’m gonna finish restocking.” You said and she nodded and then nodded to the kitchen area.
“I’ll see you around Y/N.” He said and you smiled and nodded and then they went into the kitchen leaving you alone. Once you heard the door shut you turned around and smiled like a fool to yourself. Once the ambulance was restocked you had gone into the firehouse itself and went to the bunk area and laid down. So, you didn’t get to see Antonio leave and you were somewhat grateful for that. As you laid you thought about him.
The next time you saw him was when everyone had gotten off shift and headed over to Molly’s. Everyone had just finished a 3-day shift and you were very much looking forward to having a drink and then going to bed and sleeping for the next 2 days, not really but it’s going to feel so nice to actually sleep without bells ringing sometimes every second. “So, what is your plan for the rest of your 3 days off?” Gabby asked as you grabbed your bag, she already had hers on her shoulder and she was just beginning to make her way to her car.
“Well, Kelly and Casey asked me to go to Molly’s with the rest of you and I agreed, so that. Then afterwards I’m going to go home and sleep in my own bed for three days and enjoy not having to get up a bell for what seems like every second.” You said and she chuckled.
“I’ll probably be doing the same but I just know that Antonio will be dragging me somewhere.” She said as the both of you reached your cars. Your heart picked up just a beat at her mentioning her brother but once again you didn’t let it show. “You know he has not stopped talking about you.” She said.
“Oh?” You asked and she nodded.
“Every chance he gets he’s asking about you.” She said
“I’m not that interesting.” You said as you threw your bag into the back end of your car.
“He begs to differ.” She said and you shook your head.
“I’ll see you at Molly’s.” You said and she smiled and nodded.
“I’ll see you there.” She said and then you were getting in and starting your car up and then heading to the bar called Molly’s it's mainly known as a first responder bar but everyone was allowed in, it was owned by Christopher Herrmann, Randall ‘Mouch’ McHolland, who were two of your co-workers, and Trudy Platt, who worked at the precinct and somehow the two of you hit it off, and Stella Kidd, is a worker and manager. It wasn’t a very far drive and you were thankful for that. You pulled into a parking spot close to the bar and under a streetlight. You were quick to get out and rush in like you could outrun the cold that seemed to take over the city quickly. When you were in you were instantly met with the heat and you basked in it until a voice was calling out to you that you recognized as Connor Rhodes, you looked up and smiled at him as he made his way over to you.
“Hey.” He said and hugged you and you hugged you back.
“Fancy seeing you here.” You said as you both released each other.
“Just got off shift.” He said and you were following him to where he was sitting with some of his fellow co-workers, some Intelligence, and some of your coworkers.
“So did we.” You said and the talking, laughing, sharing stories, and cases went on throughout the night. You had volunteered to go and get more drinks and while you were up there ordering Antonio had walked in and when he spotted you, he smiled and walked up to you.
“So, we meet again.” He said and you turned to him and smiled.
“Seems like it.” You said, the bar was busy and considering it is a Friday night you expected it. So, when it was taking longer to get drinks you didn’t mind one bit. The two of you talked and he tried to get closer to you but you weren’t allowing it. When you eventually did get your drinks, you were heading back to the table with him following behind carrying the rest. For the rest of the night everyone laughed and had a great time. Throughout the night Antonio did not take his eyes off of you and when it was time to leave, he was walking you to your car and making sure you got in safely and then watched you drive off.
************************
It was now December and Chicago was experiencing its coldest winter ever. The pipes were freezing and there were icicles hanging from the power lines and bringing them down enough that it was causing them to make power outages happen, some even breaking. No electricity meant no heat in people’s houses causing them to be without heat. When no heat was getting into people’s houses meant that the firehouse became a shelter. The firehouse being so big and an emergency center meant that there were some fairly big generators and several of them and considering you were from Colorado it just made sense.
The big power outage just had to happen when you were on shift. You had just come into work and everyone met in the meeting room. There was chatter when Boden walked in and everyone became silent. “Alright listen up. It’s one of the coldest winters that Chicago has ever experienced. Electricity is going out which means that heat is going out and a lot of calls are going to be coming in so be prepared for that. For people that don’t have electricity or heat know they can come here, shelters and the schools are opening up since generators are set up for here, shelters, and the schools. Blankets will be available and passed out and the bunks and any available space will have cots set up. Food and water will be passed out as well.” He said and everyone either gave a nod or gave their acknowledgement letting him know they heard him. As he dismissed everyone and started to set up cots and get supplies ready. As you were getting blankets out you looked up and saw Antoino and all of Intelligence coming.
“Hey.” You said, you had gotten to know him over the months but still wouldn’t get close to him but that might change tonight.
“Hey, we decided to come down and help.” Antonio said and you smiled.
“Thank you to all of you. We need some help moving and setting up cots and getting more blankets down.” You said and they nodded and then you were telling them where to go and who to ask about things. As everyone divided and went their separate ways but one stayed and that would be Antiono. As the time turned into hours and a bunch of people flooded in and some other first responders and medical staff had decided to come down and help. All of Intelligence had decided to come down and help, a lot of people were split up to help at the firehouse and others were sent to the shelters to help down there. You were becoming exhausted; you were non-stop going and Antonio saw this but even he didn’t have time to go over and check on you since he was busy. After making sure you were doing ok from afar, he paid a lot of his attention to the people coming in.
“Hey, Tonio!” Gabby’s voice sounded to his ears and he looked up and smiled and saw his sister.
“Hey, Gabs.” He said and hugged her.
“The amount of people coming in is slowing down. So, why don’t you go and take a break? It’s bound to pick back up soon and throughout the night.” She said and she nodded as they released each other.
“I think I will.” He said and she smiled and walked away. He looked around for you but couldn’t find you so he started to walk around. When he couldn’t find you inside, he decided to look outside so he grabbed his coat and put it on and headed outside and that is where he found you, sitting on a picnic table looking up at the sky. The moon was full so the moonlight hitting you made you look like an angel, in his eyes. Snow was still following and it was following in your hat and that made him smile. He also noticed that you had your issued Chicago Fire Department winter coat and beanie on and that made him happy that you had grabbed it. He stood there watching you for a second before he decided to make his way over to you but you seemed to notice his presence.
“Staring is rude.” You said still looking up at the sky and didn’t stop until he was sitting beside you.
“You’re too beautiful not to stare at.” He said looking you in the eyes. “What are you dining out here? It’s freezing.” He said as if he wasn’t used to the harsh weather that Chicago threw at them from time to time.
“I needed a break from inside. Don’t get me wrong I love helping people but sometimes you just need to get away. Plus, the weather and darkness reminded me of Colorado.” You said and he smiled and nodded and you turned to look out over the nearly dark city. It was silent for a minute and then he was talking again.
“Come here.” He said and you turned your head and looked at him and he had opened his arms up. You hesitated a beat having a mental fight with yourself and decided that this man had been so good to you and has tried his best to get close to you that you were going to give him a chance. All the months that he had been getting close to you or at least trying to you were falling in love with him.
“What made you become a firefighter/paramedic?” He asked and you looked back over at him and your cheeks were tinged pink despite you being bundled up and you Chicago Fire Department beanie on and him cuddling you. Maybe you were blushing but you’re going to blame it on the cold.
“Well, the firefighter part runs in my family and I never wanted to break that tradition. I love helping people in need and I love the adrenaline rush. My old chief pushed all of us to cross-train to be a paramedic just in case the ambulance couldn’t be there in time or more were needed on scene.” You said and he held onto every word and you could tell and you appreciated that, none of your other relationships paid attention to you when you talked about your profession. As you sat and talked and looked out into the city watching the snowfall and covering the roads further the cold was getting hasher and actually getting to you despite the heavy winter coat you had on and you started to shiver slightly and he took notice of this. Antonio never once took his eyes off of you and he was smiling hearing you talk. It was silent again.
“Can I ask why you won’t let me get close to you?” He asked and you sighed and looked at him. You knew this was coming.
“When I lived back in Colorado my relationships weren’t the best. Most of them cheated on me and most were abusive to me, mentally, physically, and verbally. After my last one I vowed not to get in a relationship not wanting it to happen again. But then I met you and everything changed and you made me see that not all men are evil. I didn’t want to get close to you at first because of that fear but after getting to know you all these months and you holding me now is making me change my mind.” You were honest with him and he listened.
“I understand but I will never hurt you and if I did then my sister, all of 51, Med, and Intelligence would let me have it. You’ve made quite a few friends.” He said and you chuckled. “Will you give me the chance and let me take you on a date and let me show you that I will never hurt you?” He asked and you had already made up your mind before he even finished his sentence.
“I would love that.” You said and he smiled.
“Can I kiss you? I know it is fast but I can’t wait a second longer.” He said and you chuckled and nodded.
“Yes.” You said and so he leaned down and kissed you softly and you kissed him back just as soft. Sparks seemed to fly when your lips connected and you knew this relationship would be different. You don’t know why you waited for months. Maybe part of you wanted to protect you from getting hurt again and maybe it was the trauma that kept you from being loved. This kiss undid everything and you found safety within him. You’ve made up your mind and you were going to let him show you how it is to be loved and how a guy could be a great boyfriend to his girlfriend.
New Years Eve
Summary: New Years looks a little different but you don't mind at all.
A/N: After much contemplation, I decided to write this little baby as one last thing to end off the year. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and hopefully an amazing new year. Thank you so much for all the love and support you showed me this year, I truly can't express my appreciation and just how much it's helped me.
Being a surgeon meant that you had peculiar shifts and sometimes it meant working holidays. You were lucky enough to spend Christmas at home with your family but not so much for new years.
You weren't too bothered however. Your family had no plans this year as they all went abroad and you were stuck.
Despite being unable to maintain traditions this year, you and a few special people could make new ones.
The night was suspiciously quiet, allowing you and Connor to take a well deserved break and have a much needed catch up in the break room.
Laughing at Connor's unfortunate family dinner tale, you were interrupted by a knock on the door which was pushed open before either of you could say anything.
"Mama, mama!" The babbles of your child made it so that your smile widened. Their chubby legs staggering as they were supported by your husband who was helping them 'walk' towards where you were sat.
"Oh hello Daisy! Look at you!" You stood up, opening your arms as she picked up the pace to throw herself forward into your embrace that was one of her favourite places to be. "Mama missed you baby."
Her following giggles brightened up the room, it was as if she understood your words. Her smile, with a few teeth poking out, were a welcomed sight as her hand clutched your scrubs.
"Oh! And whose this?" You questioned her innocently, looking at the other man in wonder.
Connor held in a laugh at the scene before him.
Turning to the direction you were pointing, Daisy babbled nonsensical gibberish that you nodded to understandingly. "Ah I see, you picked up a stray on your way here. That's so generous of you love."
Kelly rolled his eyes, knowing fully well you were indirectly jabbing him for his soot covered face. He clearly hadn't cleaned himself after their latest call.
This time last year, the exact same thing happened. It was almost like deja-vu but instead of being pregnant, this time you had a baby in your arms and... Connor was here.
Looking back at one of your best friends and colleagues, you raised a brow at him, a knowing smile on your face.
Connor laughed, nodding his head with a certain look on his face. "Alright, alright, I know when I'm not wanted."
"You love us." Kelly said, smile filled with appreciation as the man got up.
"Yeah yeah, get out of here Rhodes. Go find Will to kiss at twelve." You half joked, was half serious, your tone giving nothing away.
His laugh came straight from the chest, shocked but also expecting it from you at the same time.
"Kiss this fine specimen twice for me instead, m'kay?" Connor asked rhetorically, firmly patting Kelly on the shoulder as he winked at you, not waiting for a reply before leaving.
"How are my girls doing?" Kelly asked, moving towards you to wrap his hands around you waist.
"I should be asking you that, you two have been having fun at the firehouse together all day." You replied, letting Daisy play with the random junk you had in the breast pocket of your scrubs.
"Little missy here had the time of her life with her aunts and uncles today. She was very spoilt and I'm very surprised they haven't tired her out."
You hummed, the baby in your arms was still buzzing with energy but the concern about her bedtime could be a problem for the new year.
The silence was welcoming. Being a surgeon and a mother meant that it was a rare thing but you relished it every single time.
"We going to make this a yearly thing?" You asked, fixing Kelly's collar. "Working every new years, you coming here to kiss me senseless and run away all smug like you're so cool. I have a strict reputation to maintain - need to keep instilling fear in the students."
"Ahh I see." Kelly nodded, lips pursed as he looked at your daughter when he replied.
"Your mummy thinks she's so scary, isn't she just so adorable?!" He said in the baby voice that he uses when talking to Daisy who knew none the better that he was making fun of you.
"Piss off." You rolled your eyes, shoving his shoulder away but he barely moved, stood firm on the ground even with all the effort you put in.
"Aww, don't worry baby, I still love you." He circled his arms back around you, bringing you into his embrace, holding his two girls close to him.
"No that's it, no more kisses for you." You shook your head, trying your best to be serious as you exchanged the banter that even though it was small, made days like today better.
Kelly hummed, as if he didn't believe your threats. He looked down at you and Daisy with such adoration and love that it was palpable. After such hard days, small pockets of time with just the three of you grounded him in such a way very few could do.
The countdown started, muffled voices counting down from outside, breaking the bubble of your little family was in.
"I love you."
Your smile was identical to the smile Daisy wore. She was your exact carbon copy and to have both of you looking up at him with the exact same look, Kelly was ready to fight the whole world for his two girls.
"I love you too."
"3, 2, 1... Happy New Year!"
Without a second to waste, Kelly's calloused hands cradled your jaw, pulling you into a searing kiss that you instantly melted into, getting lost into it even as little fingers tapped your face, trying to pry Kelly's face off of yours.
The laugh that came from you was unbecoming but this was quite new. Daisy pushed Kelly's face away from yours, ignoring his sour face as she kissed you instead. 'Kiss' being very loose as it was just her open mouth repeatedly smacking your cheek.
Unable to begrudge her, Kelly joined in, kissing the other cheek in unison.
Then, in sync, you and Kelly turned and drowned Daisy in kisses. The sudden onslaught of kisses surprising her, her giggles loud and beautiful, the most wonderful sound you ever heard. Her smile wide, dimples deep and eyes squinting.
Yeah, this was definitely a new years tradition you could get used to.
Since then, Daisy's obsession with finding stray discs has grown, and she has collected an impressive cache of 155 discs.
Mason and park officials have now come up with a plan to return the discs to their owners if they are labeled, and any unclaimed discs will be sold as a fundraiser to support the park's disc golf courses. random hermitcraft/ life series headcanons cause my brains rotting over both ;^)
OVERALL:
- after each life series all the members come back to hermitcraft and throw some form of a house party
-no one rlly dies on hermitcraft, they just tend to gets lots of injurys(broken bones, sprains, concussions, all the fun stuff)
- they definitely have an infirmary there somewhere
-each smps like a city, for example hermitcraft and empires smp r neighboring cities
INDIVIDUAL:
- Joel, Grian, and Jimmy are all siblings cause i said so
-grians oldest, joels middle, jimmys youngest
i imagine a good majority of them played some sport/ activity before coming to hermitcraft so heres some cause idk y this has been plaguing me:
bdubs: volleyball, golf
cub: some form of student council maybe??
doc: golf, lacrosse (definetly js whacks ppl w his stick)
etho: ice hockey, lacrosse
false: field hockey, track
gem: field hockey, wrestling, lacrosse
hypno: hockey
iskall: wrestling
scar: student council w cub (convex ;))
grian: tennis
jevin: football, wrestling
impulse: football, shotput
inthelittlewood: theatre kid, soccer
lizzie: field hockey, cheer, lacrosse
smajor: cheer, golf
solidarity: soccer, tennis
these could go for a highschool au or anything but i imagine they did these in highschool and then move to “hermitcraft city” or smth and they still like practice all these andn stuff
monthy hangouts are set up by the magic mountain group, usually consisting of movies and games(always sleepovers at someones base)
cleo is the best cook on the server,she host bi-annual seever wide dinners (w the help of beef and false for cooking)
bdubs and joel draw out there bases together, only time youll see them not beefin w eachother
the redstoners r covered in burn marks due to redstone lighting at wrong times or js blowimg up
cub and xisumas are the servers doctors, running the infirmary if needed
if a hermit gets a cast, crutches, a boot, splint, etc, gem, bdubs, keralis, skizz, and stress make it a goal to decorate it as much as possible(they have a competition to see who can get it done first)
after parties, xisuma, impulse, hypno, and false are usually the ones to make sure everyone gets home, being “designated walkers”(they dont drink so they can walk everyone home)(no idk where im coming up w this stuff either)
team zits definitely have movie marathons weekly(they play uno to decide who picks the series)
mumbo and grian love watching dance moms(holly is mumbos fave, kelly is grians fave)
doc, etho, beef, and gem play eachother in lacrosse all the time, getting way to agressive each time (always some form of an injury outcome)
jevin is a weirdly good baker, makes the best cakes(taste and decoration)
pearl is rlly good at anything art related (loves painting/ drawing other hermits doing whatever)
ren makes the server put on plays (hes director and the main character in every one)(hes hires whatever hermits he can get to also act in them)
75% of the times tango sneezes, something catches on fire (theres fire extinguishers everywhere imaginable)
xb is the fastest swimmer on the server by a landslide, every hermit has tried to best him but he always wins by atleast 2 seconds
zed collects little trinkets, and leaves them in peoples bases as gifts
So for ur Lanternfam TikTok’s thing! Jess is about to film like a meme or a challenge or whatever. And Hal actually knows it. Like before she can finish it he’s like oh I know what this is! And the other lanterns and the internet EXPLODES BC WAIT HE KNOWS ONE??? Probably learned about it from one of his nieces or nephews or smth
Also! Jess vlogs a nature hike and everything goes wrong!!! Bc it’s them!
Jess and Kyle talk in Spanish once! ONCE!! And the comment section is filled with omg that’s hot- but then in another video Kyle mentions smth about being Irish and the viewers are like? Wait-
Jess Vlogs a trip to a plane museum or car show and it’s a compilation basically of Hal or Simon just getting really excited or explaining things and the others looking at them like lol. Or exasperated as the trip goes on
Jess doing a like, planting and answering ur questions! Or smth and answering your questions idk. And then proceeds to not answer any questions. At all
There’s another video being filmed but someone walks by shirtless in the background and suddenly there’s so. So many edits. THEY WERE THERE FOR TWO SECONDS WHAT-
One of the older lanterns is helping Kelli with her hw and all u can see is Jess and Kyle laughing, but u can hear confused voices bc “this is not what I learned when I was in school. This is not how I did it when I was in school”
Anyways just some silly fun! Ty for feeding us with lantern content!!
-Gis
oh FUCK yeah
that challenge? the one that hal knows?? it's a hear me out cake. for those who don't know, it's literally a cake you stick pictures of people/things/whatever you would fuck. hal got it from helen who really wanted to see him do one and jess bluescreens for five seconds when he brings it up before jumping on the idea. and you know what? chaos. hal is unhinged at the best of times but he's putting shit on this cake that barely makes sense. a jet engine, godzilla, the colour green, ton-618 which is immediately followed up by a planet. simon's literally howling behind the camera, jess is barely keeping it together and hal is totally unrepentant. they keep coming: a picture of just a mustache and nothing else (which sends simon into further hysterics and now kyle's joining him) and then himself but in green lantern uniform. finally, there's one picture left. hal looks down at it and visibly pales. jess tells him he needs to put in in the cake. he's come this far. he cannot stop now. hal asks how many people are likely to see this video. jess omits that literally millions of people are following this channel. beet fucking red and sweating, hal puts down his final hear me out: the flash symbol. just the symbol. the video ends with jess staring at him, open mouthed, simon actively dying on the floor and kyle's cut-off shriek of "I KNEW I--"
jess is the only one thriving on this nature hike. john is close behind but he has to listen to the others complain and make sure they don't get themselves inadvertently killed. jo's here for the views and the pictures and trips kyle at irregular intervals for fun. kyle is barely awake and stumbling over everything in sight. keli has been shamelessly piggybacking off of guy for the last hour. guy himself is probably sunburnt as hell and refuses to admit defeat and slather himself up (he didn't slip slop slap seek and slide beforehand). hal's being totally insufferable about everything and simon is realising quickly that he did not pack enough water for this at all and jess might make them drink from a stream. it's a miracle they even make it back alive.
KSJFLA the audience find out about mixed people lmao. jess just can't believe they're that dumb and kyle can't believe she had to even try to explain it.
i think simon and hal at respective museums would be too powerful. neither would be capable of shutting up which, like, good for them honestly. they all come out of these ones knowing way more about exhaust pipes or whatever. forgive me, i was a dinosaur kid.
jess doesn't do get ready with me videos. she does planting videos and i like to think she's planting/pruning/caring for her weird alien plants during this and casually thwarting every single attempt they're making at murdering her. and yeah, she literally answers fuck all because all of her answers are cryptic as hell so she doesn't technically have to lie, even if jess is not above lying on the internet. but it's fun to say the most incomprehensible bullshit like, 'yeah, hal's ex was insane, he killed a bunch of people' and then never mention it again.
about ninety percent of the edits that are made of the lanterns are from two second clips of jess accidentally capturing them shirtless. she's seen enough of them to give her a goddamn migraine and the fact that dick grayson will occasionally send some to her doesn't help.
keli's learning quick that getting an education major to help with homework is actually a bad idea because apparently, it's been years since guy was a teacher and they goddamn changed everything. hal's equally useless. he stares at it, bent at the waist, like he's strategising on how to defuse a bomb but it's just english homework that's gotten keli frustrated and he has literally no clue how to help because he definitely didn't do this. eventually, keli buckles and goes to simon who's reliable and actually useful while hal and guy start their daily bickering session over how to best write an essay.
#made my halbarry heart happy with this one#i'm a simple woman chat#also i've been meaning to make the hear me out cake post for ages#i just keep forgetting#thank you for the ask!#it was very sweet :)#lanternfam#green lantern#ask
Okay I either just had the best or the worst idea on the topic of Crash That Helicopter and someone else has probably already had the same thought just better but.
What if Tommy regains consciousness and realises he's trapped and his chopper is basically toast, including his comms. But his phone is miraculously okay. So he calls 911.
Meanwhile at dispatch, Maddie is having the Worst Time with morning sickness and runs to the toilet every 10 minutes until Josh decides to force her to go home. But she refuses at first because Kevin and Sarah are both out with the flu and Jessica unexpectedly quit last week to follow her boyfriend of 5 weeks to Australia and now they're short staffed. But Josh tells her it's fine they'll figure it out and pretty much throws her out. He has a small breakdown because they are seriously short staffed but luck just so has it that one of the long term dispatchers walks through the door right then (Debbie perhaps?) with her friend who used to work here but quit years ago and now lives in Phoenix (was it phoenix? I don't quite remember) buy she wanted to see the new dispatch centre and say hi to some people. And in walks no other than Abby Clark.
And Josh is still spiralling a little and she immediately offers to fill in for a few hours it's really no problem she still works in dispatch after all and she knows the systems and she'd love to help. And Josh, stressed but grateful accepts and ushers her towards a free desk. And Abby gets to work right away and she definitely still got it, she does one or two simple calls absolutely flawlessly and then in comes the third call and the voice is familiar.
And that's how Abby takes Tommy's 911 call, and immediately dispatches the best unit she knows because of course.
And of course he also immediately recognises her even though he's kinda dizzy and losing blood. They start talking. Not really about them but light things because Abby needs to keep Tommy awake and he's fading so she tries to keep his attention. So she tells him she's sent the 118, they're his old house right, but lots of new faces, actually she used to date his replacement and then broke his heart by walking away from him. And he laughs kinda pained. Actually, so did he. She pauses for a moment, then demands clarification so Tommy starts talking. And he tells the whole story for the first time since the break up, including the reasons. Some of them he doesn't even mention because it's Abby. Abby who maybe knows him best in the whole world because she's known him at his worst and somehow still loved him.
And Abby listens. And when he's finally done she let's out a long sigh and calls him a dumbass. And then she gets to setting his head straight. She gives him a proper dressing down and gets to the bottom of it. And finally she asks him if he regrets it. Yes. If he loves Buck. If course he does. If he wants him back.... Yeah. So she tells him to work for it, to fight for them. And when she's done giving him a passionate little monologue about love and relationships silence falls.
She calls his name. No answer, only sirens in the distance.
She calls his name again, more frantically and he's still not replying and now she's in tears because they can't both break Buck's heart like that, one of them has to fucking fix it!
Meanwhile the 118 has been racing towards the crash site, Buck antsy but determined and refusing to stay by the rig and let Eddie and Ravi handle it. Tommy needs him.
When they finally arrive it's a complete nightmare, debris and fire everywhere and they're taking far too long to cut Tommy out. Long enough for the TV crews to arrive and start broadcasting the whole thing live.
So Abby, still on the line with an unresponsive Tommy, hoping, praying, is watching Taylor Kelly report live from the crash site where the firefighter have started ripping through the remains of the helicopter. Until Bobby steps in front of the camera and forces them to shut it off because he has no idea what they're going to find there.
Which is also why he eventually makes the decision to pull Buck back after all. Between Eddie, Ravi, Hen and Chim there are enough hands already anyway, they've got him, Buck.
So that's how Taylor Kelly, who's still a bit pissed at Bobby for ruining her news piece, watches Buck disappear between the engine and the ladder truck looking like his world is collapsing and he might be her ex but of course she still cares. It's Buck, how can you not care about him? So she follows him and finds him just as he's breaking down. And she has no idea what's going on, she simply pulls him into a hug and let's him cry it out.
And when he csn breathe again he tells her. That's the love of his life there. His name is Tommy and he dumped him three months ago after he asked him to move in. And they both smile weakly before he continues.
He never told him. He only ever told her, and he didn't lie, he promises but it's never felt like this. And he never told him that he loved him.
Loves him.
And she says that maybe he should do that now then and nods at something behind him.
And there are Chim and Hen and Ravi and Eddie running towards the parked vehicles, pushing a gurney. And there's Bobby yelling for Buck to come get his ass into the ambulance, they have to leave right now.
And Taylor smiles and wipes his tears away and gives him a push. Go. Go and fight and tell him what you told me.
And he does.
#911 abc#tommy kinard#evan buckley#bucktommy#abby clark#taylor kelly#And obviously Tommy probably Codes dramatically on the way to the hospital but they get him back with the power of family and friendship#And buck is making teary love confessions the entire way#And it's touch and go for a bit but Tommy makes it#And they make up and live happily ever after#The end
re your tags on that last post, you could say he was...biden his time
BA DUMP TSHH.
I think that everyone, having gotten through the initial 24 hours of rage, fear, terror, confusion, anger, and frustration, is coming around to the idea that this was possibly a good thing and has undoubtedly given the Democratic ticket a much-needed jolt of energy. There are still all the very valid conversations to be had about the sway of a tiny group of billionaire donors, the media and Anonymous Democratic Sources bullying, the decision to torch Biden when they could so easily (so! easily!!!) have done it to Trump at any time and have clearly decided to go FULLY into the tank for him instead. This has many worrisome implications for democracy, and it's not something to be celebrated. All of that is still very much true.
However, now that we have had concrete evidence of the party immediately cohering around Kamala and the grassroots donors busting down the door to give her money, it may also turn out that this was a very wise political jiu-jitsu move by a very crafty political veteran like Biden. As the post I just reblogged pointed out, he did it AFTER the GOP convention, when the Republicans had already locked in (by any reasonable metric) a terrible, terrible ticket. It makes the Democrats look like the ones responsive to the American people demanding a younger and more mentally "with it" candidate (no matter how obvious the slurs about ageism were in regard to Biden when Trump is literally THREE YEARS YOUNGER and far more obviously scrambled). It opens all the excitement and historic firsts of Obama in 2008, it gives the perfect "Prosecutor vs. Felon" tagline that's really easy to run with and stick in people's minds, it is beautiful revenge for all Trump's horrible sexist behavior in 2016 (and really, his whole life) and it gives the Democrats the narrative, if they can FUCKING STICK TOGETHER AND STOP STABBING EACH OTHER IN THE BACK. Now we get to hear about Kamala's running mate, Kamala's plans, feel-good pieces about how she appeals to youth, women/people of color, etc. etc. ALL THAT IS GOOD.
I think/hope the DNC will now be a massive celebration of Biden, who after all came out of retirement when he was already old to take on Trump, beat him, deliver an incredibly successful presidency, and pass the torch on to Kamala. I saw some criticism of Obama yesterday for not endorsing her immediately, but what I read is that he/the other Democratic big beasts (Pelosi, Schumer, etc) want to be a uniting figure with an endorsement of the final candidate, if there was a contested primary beforehand. Thank fuck, it doesn't look like there will be, but it also means that they might wait until the DNC before openly endorsing her. Now, I am still angry at the Biden knifing that all these three were complicit in to some degree, BUT I also have no doubt that if/when Kamala is confirmed as the nominee, they will line up behind her to endorse her and her VP pick. I have seen Mark Kelly, Roy Cooper, etc as possible picks (since alas, she will probably have to pick a straight white man; Kelly would be replaced in the Senate by Democratic AZ governor Katie Hobbs; Cooper is term-limited as governor in NC and might help us target that state for a flip). But what is number one most important is that we support her and whoever she DOES choose. I have also heard that she is already in the process of vetting picks and this is exciting news.
I am thrilled to vote for a woman for POTUS the second time in a few years, I think she has a real shot at winning, and I am heartened by how the base has rallied to Kamala in 24 hours. Let's fucking go. As my new office decoration says:
Imagine
Canon divergence where Buck and Eddie didn't become friends after the grenade
Instead of the 'you can have my back anyday' dialog, one of them try to compliment the other but end up saying some that deeply vexes the other and then they're back on their rivalry
Still at work they manage to work together perfectly well, but they're definitely not becoming friends anytime soon (so do they think)
So they continue with small snarky comments here and there, they kind avoid each other during calm times at the station, but never to a point where it's really uncomfortable for the rest of the team, it's just a little awkward rivalry between them
Somehow they still do things to help the other : Buck still is the one that brought Eddie and Chris back after the earthquake, and he also sends Carla in Eddie's direction (just less directly), Eddie helps Maddie move...
They don't even admit to themselves that they care a little about the other (like Buck totally getting why the girls at the cowboy bar would want Eddie's number) (like Eddie being more bothered by Taylor Kelly when she talks to Buck than to the others)...
When they're dosed they get pretty friendly and cuddly, they might even say some stuff to each other... But they awkwardly do as if nothing happened on the following shift
On Halloween, Buck leaves Abby officially
Then Buck, Actually happens
Eddie gets worried for Buck during the Lola/Norman intervention and get angry at him afterwards for being too reckless (like trying to negotiate with an armed woman not knowing if you will help or anger her more)
The Thomas and Mitchell emergency happens, and Buck comes to certain realisations about himself (bi bi bi) that he thinks about all day
Then he goes to the bar with Chimney and Maddie and while they're singing he receives a drink 🥁🥁 from Eddie! (who was supposed to meet friends from the academy) (the drink is a peace offering?)
Then they weirdly flirt over beating each other at pool or darts or something "wanna go for the title?" card is thrown
Maddie and Chim join them but end up both leaving when Chim offers to drive Maddie home > the boys are in the middle of a very competitive match at that point, Chim is worried leaving them alone might lead to a murder not-so-mystery
They continue playing and drinking and Idk how they get there exactly but they end up making out in the bar's bathroom (and then Eddie's house) (Chris is at Pepa's)
They wake up being all awkward saying stuff like 'this won't happen again right ahah?' and then Buck is about to leave and suddenly they're making out again
So this become a regular thing, while at work they get a little friendlier. The rivalry is still there but there's no bite to their little comments anymore
Now Eddie tries to get Christopher into his new school and needs to contact Shannon. They do not get back together (Eddie doesn't know what to do with his attraction to Buck and men yet, but he's not about to be snooping around with TWO people) but they do start seeing each other more often
Buck thinks Shannon and Eddie are back together, he doesn't initiate anything more than friendly with Eddie anymore (still he can't resist when Eddie initiate it)
Seeing as he's not sleeping with her but actually talking, it's easier for Eddie to trust Shannon again to be part of Chris life (but since the school transfer happened later than in the show, maybe the reunion still happen at Christmas)
Buck and Eddie still take Chris to see Santa, and after the 'you two have an adorable son' Buck feels guilty about liking the idea, he feels like it's not his place, especially now that Shannon is back
Shannon, Eddie and Chris do more family outing after Christmas (it's a little soon to leave Chris alone with Shannon yet so, step by step) and now Buck feels like he need to step away completely from Eddie and Chris's lives.
Around the same time, Doug happens.
Which means that with the emotional turmoil this brought, Eddie is not surprised that Buck is more distant, he just thinks Buck needs time to be focused on Maddie and Chim for now
Then 911 going down and the bank heist go approximately the same, just things are awkward between Buck and Eddie
They do end up talking, and clearing the miscommunication around Shannon (they decide to still keep their situationship (it's a full relationship at that point they're just too dense to see it) a secret at work until Eddie finishes his probationary year at least)
maybe after that Buck even get invited to a family activity with Shannon Chris and Eddie (that's when, seeing Buck doing something cute with Chris, Eddie realizes he's falling in love with that guy) (Shannon realizes that too and she's teases Eddie about it afterwards) (that's when they realize they never got divorced) (Shannon actually help Eddie with being okay with his sexuality)
Then Shannon dies. And it kills Eddie a little too. Buck stays by his side at every step. He helps put Christopher in bed, he helps planning the funeral, he gets Shannon's stuff out of her apartment... He doesn't know if he should come to the funeral, if Eddie wants him there, but of course he does (Chris too really need the support)
He doesn't go to the family dinner the next day though, and doesn't see Helena and Ramon try to make them come back to Texas. He doesn't see Eddie being reprimanded for bringing a stranger in such an important moment for Christopher. Ramon is enough of an asshole to imply maybe buck was there because Shannon was sleeping with him (in a derogatory way)
The serial bombings start. Eddie voices his concerns about Chris' school getting targeted after they receive the school bag call, but Buck tries to reassure him with facts about serial killers and patterns and he starts to info dump on serial killers and oh wow Eddie's in love with him.
Then boom the firetruck explodes, Buck almost dies and Eddie holds his hand through all of it.
Buck survives and Eddie tells him he loves him and Buck thinks it's only because he almost died.
Eddie offers Buck to move in with them at least until he recovers, since the house in adapted for Chris already
Buck refuses at first, then he talks to Maddie and tells her everything about Eddie, she advise communication with Eddie (about the I love you thing because that's what's blocking buck really)
They communicate (🎉) and Eddie makes a beautiful love declaration to Buck and Buck tries to do a beautiful declaration back, but he's crying and on meds so it's a bit wonky but Eddie loves it anyway
Eddie's ceremony happens, Eddie tries to make sure his parents and Buck exchange as little as possible (actually he tries to make sure his parents talk to anyone from the team the least amount he can) and after the ceremony they start moving Buck's things to Eddie's house
"Why do you think Charles is delaying Royal warrants for w&c per the times? " apologies if my ask isn't relevant.
The zeitgeist in this is incredibly important. Royal warrants link the royal almost permanently to a brand. We are all aware of the Kate effect, so linking her to a brand is not welcome nowadays. Kate doesn't do custom made pieces like the Queen did with Angela Kelly and Anne with Veronica (her dresser). We also live in a different time, where consumerism drained people's bank accounts. So having a warrant is prejudicial because it could place Kate as someone incentivising her fan base to spend a lot in a brand.
Maybe I could see in the future when she's older and the effect tones it down because fashion is an ageist game. However nowadays this is more is more damaging than helpful for her. Kate doesn't need her name linked to get a different treatment from a brand because they are already bending backwards to get her.
Royal warrants are something from the old days, in the internet era they are just a way of incentivising consumerism. Kate and William are millennial, so it's OK if they are marching at their own drum (or whatever the expression is)
The royal warrants aren't the royals' favorite things. It's a common mistake, especially by Americans whose only point of reference is Oprah's Favorite Things.
Royal warrants are honors for services and goods provided to the royal household. We're talking about things like tea manufacturers, companies that cater official events at the palace, the stationer that provides the KP letterhead, the company that makes the umbrellas BP sells in the gift shop, the cars everyone uses, the painters that help maintain the buildings, the firms that provide IT support, the garbage removal companies, etc.
Yes, sometimes the royals do give personal warrants (like Camilla's granting of warrants to her hairdresser, facialist, and maker of her wedding dress), but that has always been the exception, not the rule.
I urge everyone to spend some time actually looking at who's received royal warrants. If you actually look at the list (the real list, not the clickbait articles), you'll see very few personal favorites on that list. Most of the companies on that list are providers of goods and services that allows the royal household to do their jobs - hosting guests/visitors and maintaining their estates.
Like, do y'all really think Queen Elizabeth was sitting around her castles and palaces, exclusively drinking Coke and only ever dunking her fries in Heinz Ketchup? No, she wasn't. The people visiting the castles and palaces for receptions, events, and summer tours were the ones drinking Coke and having ketchup.
I've made this comparison before, but the royal warrants are not Oprah's Favorite Things. They're Angie's List or the Better Business Bureau.
(The other common mistake about royal warrants is that people think the royals can just give them out willy-nilly. There's actually a very strict application and vetting process, which starts with the company being required to provide a good or service for a minimum of five years, continually and presently. Meaning that whoever the Waleses give warrants to, when the day comes, it's going to be companies they've used consistently and for a long time. Not a one-off brand or something Kate used to do - e.g., whoever Kate buys her canning/chutney/honey jars from has a better chance of getting a royal warrant than Sarah Burton and McQueen, since I don't think Kate has worn McQueen or Sarah Burton since Burton left in 2023.)
Part 2 - let the world know
“I wish I could let the world know that it’s okay to let the pain show and even though times seem bad, it always rains before the rainbow.” -A Little More by Machine Gun Kelly
Dp x DC: Regent!Jazz AU Vigilante!Jazz AU
Prompt Masterlist
In traditional Fenton luck, shit goes sideways when Jazz wasn’t looking.
The Joker breaks out of Arkham.
Now, Jazz is fully aware of the Clown’s evil-ness and Danny’s trauma with all things Circus thanks to Freakshow has her hackles raised when the spirits of Gotham start screeching in her ear mid-patrol that “Joker is free!”
Like hell the guy would stay that way.
Lady Gotham is anxiously watching the Regent stomp towards Arkham, where the Mad Clown had yet to fully leave the premises into Gotham proper.
Would Jazz kill the Clown?
Many of the Unquiet Dead of Gotham are the staunchest supporters of kill, kill, kill on a good day, but with the Clown?
They seethed, they writhed, they thirsted for their vengeance and with every life taken by the Joker, the number grew.
Jazz hated the thought of death, ironically.
It’s one thing to rule the Dead and Never-born, but to add to the Realms' population by her own hand?
(It wouldn't be the first time.)
Well, Jasmine Nightingale would have to check her morals at the door, because when Lady Gotham begins to hesitantly (then vivaciously) root for you to “please end him, dear” one has to reconsider a few things about themselves.
For instance, how would she avoid becoming the next Joker? It was a hushed confession of the Lady that made Jazz hesitate at the border between Gotham and Arkham-
A dead man's switch would trigger a Joker Venom bomb, infecting those nearby.
Would the gas affect a Liminal?
True, Jazz was very much a living being (she often woke up in a cold sweat with a hand at her neck, heart beating against her fingers), but she was Death-claimed.
Was this how Danny felt as a Halfa? Weighing the living half vs the dead to see which would win out in a fight?
Not for the first time, Jazz found herself thankful that she was only Liminal.
Heart in her throat, Jazz considered her options.
It would be easy to just run him through with her ecto-sword, a gift from her once-mentor Pandora, but she would likely have to fight her way through bats and birds to both get to and away from the Clown.
Jazz could also just ask for aid from Lady Gotham and/or the Unquiet Dead to enshroud her from vigilant eyes as she absconds with Joker to Crime Alley.
(Jazz was sure Red Hood wouldn’t mind if she dropped a dead clown at his feet. He seemed the type to appreciate a job well done.)
(If her heart raced slightly in response to that thought, no it didn’t.)
Despite all her reservations about murder, killing the clown felt like an honor for the Regent.
(Blood had long since been on her hands.)
The morning would bring chaos as the people learned of the Joker's fate, Batman's failure to return him to Arkham, and how someone finally had enough of the black furry's inaction to stop the clown.
Sometimes, inaction is just as bad as action.
(A Fenton who learned that well.)
Jazz, in full Regent armor, mounted the Joker's head at the mouth of her alleyway, the same one that she used as a checkpoint between her apartment and the Park Row graveyard. A grotesque trophy that would be used as a symbol of the Regent's authority to avenge, of her willingness to cross the line of morality.
The Unquiet Dead who owed their demise to the Joker could now pass on and Jazz could call it a night.
That was, until whatever tomorrow brought around to spite the younger Fentons.
Typical.
=============================
[This was more of a short fic rather than the prompt I first started with, but it just came to me. I want to explore some things with events leading up to Danny and Jazz in Gotham, but I'm not sure. I need help to describe Jazz's armor because I have a general idea, but I'm not sure about the details. Ideas?]
[Hopefully I'll be able to put more Regent!Jazz than Vigilante!Jazz, but I also really like Jazz as one. Bet you can't guess the name I use for her as a vigilante!]
