Brazilian Public Bank Charges its Ex-President $9,000 for Damaged iPhones

Pedro Guimarães' defense classifies the action as a political move by Caixa's current management

The Brazilian public bank Caixa Econômica Federal filed a lawsuit against its former president Pedro Guimarães demanding the return of six cell phones purchased by the bank.

If Guimarães does not return the equipment, the financial institution wants to charge him R$ 45,000 (US$ 9,000), an amount calculated from the invoices referring to purchases of the equipment, all iPhone models.

Sources at the bank say that it will not be possible to return the cell phones because they were broken by Guimarães in a fit of rage.

Tite announces the official World Cup Squad

On november 7th, Tite, the coach of the brazilian national team, has finally named the official world cup sqaud of the brazilian national team. While most of the names on the list have been expected there are some names that have caused discussions among the brazilian fan community, either because they have been included or because they have been left out.

First of all, The former Barcelona right-back and football's most decorated player with 44 career trophies has been called up into the World Cup squad besides his old age of 39 years (making him the oldest brazilian world cup player ever) and besides currently playing in the mediocore Mexican football league for Pumas Mexico City. Probably thanks to his winners mentality and experience rather than pure footballing skills.

Another controversial name on the list is the Tottenham player Richarlison, who has been struggling in the premier league this season and, as a striker and playing as a main striker, could not even score his first goal for the team yet. While Richarlisons call up may come as an surprise for most people following European club football, those following the Brazilian national team closely can certainly understand the decision better. Because in the dress of the Selecao he could already record 17 goals in 38 games yet, including 7 in his last 6 international games.

A name that has caused a lot of discussions for not being on the list is the name of the Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino. He has been a key player in Liverpools world-class premier- and champions league winning sqaud and has even been in good form this season scoring 7 and assisting 3 goals. Hence, him not being called up for the world cup has confused many people in the brazilian fan community, including me.

Le 7 novembre, l'entraîneur de l'équipe nationale du Brésil, Tite, a annoncé la liste des 26 joueurs du Brésil pour participer à la Coupe du monde du Qatar au siège de l'Association brésilienne de football. Neymar, Vinicius et Jesus ont été sélectionnés, et le vétéran de 39 ans Alves est devenu la plus grande surprise. Firmino et Gabriel ont perdu.

I like the balance in the selection.  two back to goal center forwards, two mobile center forwards equals four center forwards. Four strikers. Two Talismans plus two creative midfielders is 4 metronomes so to speak. Brasil can change their  front attack for any team. With four wide backs and four centerbacks, they have the players to suit the front. the lean is the physical midfield link. Fred/Casemiro are irreplaceable as the only two players Brasil will have who honestly are used to playing in every sector of the pitch on a regular basis. Thus, their card count, their fitness is huge. They are the only two players who will assist their teammates who are localized in their sectors more regularly.

Nhiều đồng đội quốc tế đã ủng hộ cầu thủ tre, trong đó phải kể đến biểu tượng Pele của Brazil, người đã chia sẻ rằng các cầu thủ da đen sẽ tiếp tục “chiến đấu vì quyền được hạnh phúc của bản thân”.

Head of Brazilian public bank out following sexual harassment allegations

Pedro Guimarães is out as head of Caixa, Brazil’s biggest public bank. His resignation comes after multiple women came forward accusing him of sexual harassment. Federal prosecutors are looking into allegations of women who denounced inappropriate advances, unwanted physical contact, and offensive and violent statements made by Mr. Guimarães during work hours.

The investigation is sealed, but five women spoke of their experiences with news website Metrópoles, and multiple other reports followed with additional detail. For his behavior, Mr. Guimarães could face criminal charges of sexual misconduct.

In his resignation letter, reported by cable news station GloboNews, the Caixa boss called the accusations “unjust” and “untrue,” and complained about not being able to defend himself. Mr. Guimarães added that he was always guided by “utmost respect and meritocracy” in his actions. He said the allegations will be proven false but that he resigns in order to spare the institution from political grievances.

Bairro da Campina, 1927 / Acervo James Dearden Holmes

50 imagens da cidade foram tomadas pelo fotógrafo inglês James Dearden Holmes entre setembro e outubro de 1927. Holmes fazia um périplo pelo mundo que durou três anos. Em um dos conjuntos a venda, há um registro datilografado dos negativos (cerca de 9000). É possível traçar sua rota pelo país: chega ao porto de Santos, vindo de Montevidéu, pelo vapor S.S. Andes. Parte de trem para Campinas e São Paulo, em seguida Rio de Janeiro. De lá toma o vapor João Alfredo em direção ao nordeste. Passa por Salvador, Maceió, Recife, Cabedelo e Fortaleza. Chega a Belém, de onde sobe para Manaus no navio Aquidaban.

Neste conjunto aparecem: blv. castilhos frança, palácios Antonio Lemos e Lauro Sodré, r. 15 de Novembro, tv. Frutuoso Guimarães, praças Visc. Rio Branco e D. Pedro II e Igreja da Sé.
