Meeting At The Gates

The gates are an element of some branches of christianity. According to these faiths, there are twelve pairs gates, each a single pearl, upon reaching Heaven guarded by St. Peter. This is why they're also known as "the pearly gates."

If one is deemed unworthy of entering Heaven by St. Peter are denied entrance into Heaven and forced to go to Hell. Otherwise, the gates open for them and they enter Heaven.

To meet at the gates entails (at least) two characters who find one another at the gates after death. They may have died in the same incident or years apart, and there are no guaratees either of them will head off to Heaven.
