@mirrorroad horror actress emilie au is definitely doing something right with her character because like. regardless of how it presents itself i feel like emilie as a character desperately needs to be framed not as a loving sacrificial mother but as a woman who is both terrified and terrifying in her own right.

I really haven't seen anybody take the broken miraculous disease as something scary in Emilie's case, and it's sort of treated more as a tragedy for those in her life to deal with rather than something she was probably fighting with for fucking years. You could do so much with that! Have her grapple with the fact that this child of hers has essentially doomed her to a slow and painful death; There's this particularly amazing conflict you could have between her possibly feeling resentful towards Adrien for slowly killing her and her loving and cherishing him that could be a metaphor for post-partum depression*! We could have her relationship with Gabriel deteriorate over misunderstandings of what the miraculous was doing to her!

Also, it feels like a huge disservice for Emilie to only be seen as "Perfect Dead Wife Trope". Imagine instead Adrien's last memories of his mother being of a haggard, sickly woman with bone-thin hands, mumbling words and phrases to herself that Adrien didn't fully understand, staying silent for days on end as the disease ate at her. Imagine if he remembered his mother constantly being on-edge and paranoid of something, floating about the halls of their mansion like a ghost, tracing images in the wallpaper. Imagine him remembering doctor after doctor visiting their house only to be screamed at by his dying mother when all their prescriptions and recommendations inevitably did nothing to keep her alive.

*Of course, PPD might be a bad direction to go in and this scenario might be a misrepresentation of it, I'm not a mom so I would not know either way.
