20. part of canon you found tedious or boring

for zelda: i really, really wish i liked wind waker. i wanna like wind waker so fucking bad. i love wind waker's story. i love wind waker's ganondorf. i love how bright and cheerful the graphics are contrasted with how solemn it is underground. i love the dungeons and the gameplay. but god i HATE the cartoony little balloon heads. it takes me right out of those serious moments. i don't mind stylization but if it could have been just a LITTLE BIT. less stylized. just a LITTLE LESS like animal crossing characters. it's beautiful to look at but for a game with such serious hidden elements WHICH I LOVE i find trouble taking it seriously.

for spn: god, all of crowley's little arcs. he was almost never interesting, and while you can excuse bad writing for cas because it's cas, you can't make crowley happen. fetch is never gonna happen! you can show me his fun hot mom and his dead son and it still isn't happening! he's just the walking talking embodiment of the "angels and demons are just like OFFICE WORKERS" trope which i hate so fucking deeply because it's the least sexy direction they ever took and the exact opposite of what i want from my angels and demons. all of the middle seasons suffered deeply from this. crowley COULD have been interesting, but tbh, i liked him best in the season they killed him off.

for zelda: i could do wind waker again but actually i completely understand the hype, bc wind waker is a great game even if i can't deal with it like a normal person. same with botw - i found most of the joy thru exploration, so it just didnt Hit on replays the way other zeldas do, but its influence cannot be understated and the hype is deserved. what if everybody is right all the time to hype any and everything about zelda?? oh wait actually. sorry. twilight princess ilia. idk if people hype her but if they do theyre wrong. love and light to her, she's Fine, but it feels kind of like a knockoff of malon (superior) and i generally dislike when link has romantic interests besides zelda, even if the love interest gets amnesia (wistful sigh). this sin was especially egregious bc zelda barely has any screentime at all, but i forgive tp for this because what screentime she DOES have is spent being in lesbians with midna. so it works out just this once due to the power of gay people, but that's some thin fucking ice. anyway, sorry to ilia and ilia fans for being a misogynist

for spn: i hate canon claire. i can't get into it in depth but like...sorry, even without the issue of My Own Claire Ideas, i still don't know if i could do it. being gay does not save her from having the exact same "damaged but spunky teen girl" personality given to almost EVERY OTHER TEENAGE GIRL (or young woman) on the show. to some extent she, krissy, mary from the winchesters, charlie, jo, alex, etc etc all have the same personality with a few defining quirks tacked on as an afterthought. do i love some of these characters? yes, of course. are they well-written? absolutely not <3

for zelda: in general, i think skyward sword gets a bad rap despite lanayru desert's entire (waves hand vaguely) and zelda being a fucked up evil goddess who canonically manipulates link's love for her. AND GROOSE. never forget groose. more specifically i think not enough people have acknowledged 1. the champions corpses are definitely still in those cockpits 2. oot link essentially became a stalfos by walking into the lost woods without navi and never came back. hello?? generally those dark little implications that u have read between the lines to get <3

for spn: oh baby its michael!dean. i waited so long and i only really got what i wanted for one episode but it was so good. it was SO good. no one else is as hype about the fact that it took nine REAL LIFE YEARS to get there. a DECADE of my finite time on earth. but ohhh was it ever worth the wait. what else could i possibly write 100k+ about

This world cup was really crazy. At first, I wasn't really into it, but ended up watching most of the games ofc. And I'm really happy that Argentina won. Maybe even happier than I would be if Brazil had won (for political reasons that shouldn't impact football, but do). And it's ridiculous what some people are saying to justify not supporting Argentina. Like, it's okay if you don't, but trying to justify it by saying it's a "white country", "they are racists" (when they are playing france, lmao), or "they are not really part of the global south" (WTF) is just absurd.

As a Brazilian, yes, there's rivalry. I can't say I wasn't pleased when they lost to Saudi Arabia, lol, bc it was so unexpected. But it's a brotherly rivalry, y'know? We love to hate them, but also secretly admire them (for real, they fight more than anyone) and don't want anyone else to mess with them, if that makes sense. And especially against an European country, how could we not support them? South America now has 10 out 22 world cup victories and it's crazy that we are the only other continent besides Europe to win a World Cup. Also, the French are just too snob. I'd rather suffer four years of Argentinean jokes than watch France be world champion again, lol.

my latest idle musing zelda question for you: i was thinking about the song of storms paradox and wondering if you have a theory to explain it. my half baked theory is that after child link gets sealed away, sheik does child link disguise to set that up for adult link to learn, prob in concert w whatever training and protection impa is providing. but then again that's a lot for sheik/impa to like... predict, you know? but then AGAIN again, i wouldn't put it past the sheikah to have seen what happened after the master sword was pulled, and start thinking a few steps ahead to make the hero's work doable once he emerges. :D

okay here is the thing. hi. sorry it took me so long to answer i've been in december hell. HERE is the thing. there are 2 answers to this question. answer #1 of course is that it didn't come from anywhere as per the nature of the paradox. the goddesses or whoever the fuck deigned it existed and allowed link to discover it. thats kind of a boring and frustrating answer though SO. i will give you Mine Own Theory

this answer is also kind of boring/simple, but for me it's the only thing that makes sense. it also requires a bit of story and gameplay segregation and also a bit of story and gameplay integration. let me start rom the top. here is what we know about the song of storms in oot:

makes storms. duh.

no one has played it before in the timeline. it first appears chronologically in ocarina of time. so link didn't get it from a past life or anything

it plays in the windmill in the past AND the future

windmill guy is PLAYING IT HIMSELF ON HIS INSTRUMENT. this is so important! he has an instrument that he is actively using and we hear the music ONLY inside the windmill. this isn't as bulletproof as malon's singing - it doesn't get louder when you get closer to him - but this can be explained away by memory limitations or oversight by the devs. he's clearly playing SOMETHING and this is the only music we hear.

for some reason when HE plays it nothing happens. but when WE play it: storms. this is also crucial

here is my theory: the windmill guy made it up. i mean, we literally hear him playing it before we ever learn the song in the future?? given enough time and a musical ear you could pluck that out (so to speak) on an ocarina. future link heard the story and went back and played it out but past link without this knowledge could EASILY have picked up on it himself, and maybe did the first time, to start the "cycle" of the paradox.

the reason the song doesn't work for windmill guy and does work for link is because windmill guy's phonogram thing is just a thing, but both of link's ocarinas are magical. actually, i feel like only the ocarina of time is magical because only the ocarina of time can open the door of time. in fact, the only song you learn on the fairy ocarina that does anything magic is the sun's song, which is technically optional. in a playthrough where you don't learn that song until after you get the ocarina of time, link's fairy ocarina is just an ordinary ocarina. it can't call epona. it doesn't do any warping. you can't learn the song of storms on it. zelda's lullaby only summons fairies because they recognize it. navi herself facilitates communication with saria. i guess TECHNICALLY the fairy ocarina can fix signs and stuff, but compare that to the ocarina of TIME - a POWERFUL magical artifact that was ancient even during the era of skyward sword.

almost all of the magic songs link learns are on this ocarina. PERHAPS NOT A COINCIDENCE. sure, you can sequence break this like with the sun's song and the fixing signs, but i think the song of storms existed long before link played it and it only MADE THE STORMS because the ocarina's magic reacts to the force of will behind the music. it's not necessarily the melody that has the power, but the instrument, and the player of this instrument wields it with varying degrees of skill and power, not unlike a knight wields a sword. windmill guy wanted a song that went around. what makes a windmill go around? wind. what's stronger than regular wind? storms. link plays the music, either knowing or hoping that it will cause the windmill to go bonkers, and the world around him obeys, because that's what magic does: commands reality.

bonus crackpot theory: if anything, the shifting nature of the timestones the ocarina was carved out of would allow IT to pick up on a tune lost in a sea of time, and perhaps link, by then the ocarina's very proficient user, would be sensitive enough to pick up on it and manifest it himself. if the spirit of the sword can speak to people, why not the spirit of the ocarina?

but yeah. i think the guy himself made it up, and was the source of his own misery all along. link just facilitated the entire thing because he's the one with the magical instrument. maybe a little too simple but to me it's the ONLY thing - aside from pure paradox - that makes sense

this is the original version, but the version in the switch release trailer is actually what drew me to the game (this should start at :39). sadly this version doesn't seem to exist outside of this trailer, but i probably watched it like 50000 times while i was waiting to get paid so i could buy the game lol. i played it on pc which i think was the correct choice for a first time playthru but i really wanna try the switch version someday!!!!!

i remember when i first played ch2 of deltarune - and i have the recording - i gasped and went "oh!" and stopped speaking while i listened to it...resumed my sentence, and had to stop speaking again when it hit those high notes. excitedly exclaimed about being able to hear toby hitting the keys as well. i was totally overwhelmed!

this one is sooo summery i definitely played this nonstop this summer while i did yardwork or took much-deserved time in the pool 😭
