Two of my favorite oddball coyote skulls.

One had a massive overbite which caused one lower canine tooth to protrude up into the incisive foramen when the mouth was closed.

The other one had some crazy bone deformity over the eye socket which created multiple holes that opened right into the sinuses and braincase.

Saponification is the process of the human body partly or completely turning to soap. The fatty tissue and the liquid from putrefaction gradually form into adipocere, which is also known as grave wax. This process can happen to embalmed and non-embalmed bodies. It is most common with those who are overweight. The photograph above is of “The Soap Lady” who is housed at the Mutter Museum. She is entirely composed of grave wax.

In a study in the journal Science Advances, the researchers validated the accuracy of the blood test that identifies key biomarkers of osteoarthritis. They showed that it predicted development of the disease, as well as its progression, which was demonstrated in their earlier work. The research advances the utility of a blood test that would be superior to current diagnostic tools that often don’t identify the disease until it has caused structural damage to the joint.

Time for another appreciation post for sarcomas because I came across a mother of one the other day:

1 - a relatively normal cancer cell with a prominent nucleolus (dark dot in the middle of the slightly lighter oval)

2 - a cancer cell showing an increased cell size and a large nucleolus

3 - a cancer cell who decided to become a beast with significant karyomegaly and a huge nucleolus

1 - a relatively normal cancer cell

2 - a super large beast with four nucleoli

1 - a normal sized cancer cell

2 - a cancer cell with two large nuclei of varying sizes (so a binucleated cell with karyomegaly)

3 - a cancer cell with karyomegaly and a large nucleolus
