Jazz and Dani doing fun girly stuff with Cass and Steph at a slumber party.
“Sooo… any secrets to tell? Tea to spill? Gossip to share?” Steph asked, as she sat still while Cass delicately painted her fingernails a muted autumn orange.
Jazz, as she sat behind her and brushed her hair, sighed and said, “I wish I could tell, but it’s patient-doctor confidentiality.”
“Ooh!” Dani said, from where she was sitting on the ground and trying to figure out the homemade face mask machine. “I got one! Remember the other day when we all went shopping together at the mall center and we had to save that really nice girl with the stalker friend? Yeah, I found out that her girlfriend stepped in to help her, so now that ex-best friend is pissed and going on social media to try and expose her!”
Steph gasped, but Cass held on tight to her wrist, finishing the pinky finger nail with a flourish. When she let go, Steph flapped her hands and cried out, “No way! Has it been working?”
“On Facebook, yeah. On anywhere else? Not a chance,” Dani snorted, before cheering, “Yes!” as the face mask machine finally started working, creating a face mask with the homemade ingredients they put in.
Cass remarked, “The best friend is a bad friend.”
Jazz sighed and nodded, finishing Steph’s hairstyle with a plaited braid. “I feel so bad for her. Her ex-best friend clearly needs help but no one is willing to step in but the girl’s girlfriend!”
Jazz then moved to sit behind Dani and braid her hair as Steph instructed Cass to take out her laptop so they could watch a movie.
“Thank goodness I never had to deal with a stalker best friend like that!” Steph breathed a sigh of relief.
Cass stared at her. Steph paused, meeting her eyes in confusion before she had a look of realization and then reassured her, “Of course, you’re my best friend, Cass. It’s different because your entire family are stalkers.”
Cass nodded, appeased before pulling up a movie.
“Let’s watch a horror movie. No, wait, a ghost movie!” Dani proposed, taking out the face mask and layering it on Cass’ face, who accepted it without protest. Jazz quickly tied off her hair, which was formed into double Dutch braids, when she stood up.
Steph tapped her chin with a finger, pausing only when Jazz gave her a warning look. Sheepishly, she stopped to preserve her nails and she said, “If we used an ouija board and tried to call for the nearest spirit, do you think Dani would be able to communicate with us without having to go ghost?”
They all stared at each other.
Then Jazz stood up and said, “I’ll find the ouija board. Bruce has one in the living room, right?”
Cass answered, “Under the Monopoly.”
“Got it! Pause on the movie, let’s experiment first!”
Stephanie snorted. “Nails, face masks, hair braiding, gossiping, horror movies and experimentation. What’s not to love about sleepovers?”

I think it's kinda interesting how Mel doesn't really fit into the disposable black girlfriend trope and yet a lot of fandom still treats her like she does.
The poor writing with Mel puts her in the independent black woman stereotype (even though she was very much not independent) more than the disposable black girlfriend trope. It doesn't take Jayce loving Mel to have some sort of epiphany about Viktor. It takes him literally having to eat raw lizards with a shattered leg in the depths of a cave, and the epiphany he has isn't even a positive one. He doesn't have to be "freed" from Mel or dispose of her to be with Viktor—they were torn apart by circumstance and he had a moral obligation to be with Viktor.
Basically what I'm saying is that if you need to discredit and disrespect a character in order to make your ship work you need to do some self reflecting.
But I've participated in ship wars and I'd rather just talk about the whole "independent black woman thing" because it has to do with her as an individual, rather than as a part of a pair or an obstacle.
"Mel is a queen" she's not. She's stunning and an amazing character but she very much is not. Mel is so dependent on other people. She needed the council to work in her favour in order to achieve her personal goals. She needed Jayce and Elora to be vulnerable with. It makes Ambessa's treatment towards her all the more hurtful; she needed her mother, and her mother's approval, and was punished for it. I don't think we actually take the time to comprehend how devastating it would be to be, what, 19-20 years old and be exiled because you were too soft for your mother, only to be told years later that it was actually because your she loved you and she didn't want to (if my mother told me she kicked me out because I weakened her I'd probably instantaneously die of a broken heart). Obviously it was more complex than that, but Mel is the child in this situation; she is not going to see it through Ambessa's eyes nor would she want to.
Mel likely got really good at feigning independence but I doubt that, with the way she grew up and the service she would've been able to afford in Piltover, she even knew how to cook. I'm sure she depended on other people not only for the major aspects of her life but also just to keep her basic needs in order. And she's not strong either; because she was raised in Noxus she can likely fight with knives and swords, but it's not like she was this phenomenal mage when she got her powers.
I hope the Noxus show doesn't pretend that she's some strong and independent person, because that's not what Mel has ever been. She's smart and savvy and shrewd but not independent. I love her so much but I'd rather see a real portrayal of her—probably struggling not only with her magic but with trying to stand up on her own—than the fake solo act it's easy to pretend that she is.

everyone is arguing over whether wwdits is queerbait because of nandermo but I say it's queerbait because they claimed nadja was canonically bisexual and proceeded to barely even have her interact with any women at all for the rest of the show

i can hardly believe the bait and switch that elrond and the rings of power pulled on us this season. in the beginning, he is far too busy self-righteously blaming poor galadriel for falling for sauron's tricks. but then he puts on armour, lets his wild curls free, and transforms into a warrior-librarian covered in mud and blood, punching orcs in the face, and setting other orcs on fire. and i loved it.
