Hm upon posting that Beelzebub thing, realized it'd be very embarrassing to be in Hell while on your period.... Beelzebub is already bad enough, but I feel like the others who aren't as familiar with humans or human bodies and menstruation, the second they smell blood, they're freaking out 😭 anyway, here's some headcanons for just the kings:

◇ Satan probably has some general idea of what a period is, he's fairly knowledgeable, but there's a solid minute where he's ready to kill because he smells blood on you and is convinced you've been hurt. He has the wealth to get you everything you need for your period... and then some. Every new gadget out there, he's buying it for you to try. It's over the top but he means well. His master hurting causes him hurt, too. Even Bimet is a little kinder in his words (and its a good time to milk a little sympathy from him with your tears, because he panics wonderfully).

◇ Leviathan gets extra anxious and irritated around you, almost like he's having sympathetic period symptoms, but it's also just because he smells the blood and it brings up bad memories. He's a little gentler, at least, and maybe tries to keep you settled in a room of his choosing until your period is done. Brings you whatever you need because seeing you suffering does tug on his heartstrings, even if he won't admit it. He's a sweetheart, but he'd rather explode than let on that he cares. He's also going to ward off others from seeing you, wanting to be the only one taking care of you in this sensitive state, much to the disappointment of his three men.

◇ Belphegor will rub against you wrong during your period, but never intentionally. He cares, but he doesn't care like that, you know? Beleth will really be the saving grace here, talks to you in that kind Southern drawl he's got, fetches you a drink and a blanket if you need it. Probably will apologize on behalf of his king for being a piece of work when you're suffering lmao. But at least Belphegor makes for a great napping partner. If you get horny and need him, he doesn't mind the period part. But, he will leave the cleaning up to you or his right hand man. In fact, he may even sleep through the sex itself, tbh.

◇ Asmodeus.......... He's no stranger to periods whatsoever. It goes without saying, but number one thing with him will be period sex. He's heard enough about how sex could help relieve your pain, and he's more than happy to volunteer to help in that regard. But that being said, he's not entirely shameless. If you manage to resist him, he'll make do with holding you and maybe telling you some tales from his visits to Earth, raunchy or not, as a means of distraction for you. You'll just have to excuse his thing poking into you the whole time, and perhaps some wandering hands.

◇ We've already discussed Beelzebub previously, but just to keep it all together... He's a freak. Its not his favorite time, per se, but he still kind of loves when you're on your period??? But if not, then he'll satisfy himself just hanging around. ◇ Lucifer will be the most normal one, somehow, long familiar with periods and how to help them. He doesn't exactly have Midol or Aleve, or typical period products, but he'll work it out. Probably makes some kind of medicinal compound out of herbs that relieves pain, and he at least supplies you with cloths as your pads. He knows, too, what foods you should eat that will best replenish your iron, your energy, and decrease fatigue. Really, his whole squad is in on it, working to make you feel better until your period is done, and it's a little embarrassing. But they all mean well, and if anyone's ideal for care, it'll be the healers.

Hello, I hope you don't mind me asking, but I love your art style so much, and the way you draw Ragatha!!!

Would it be okay if I asked you for advice on how to draw Ragatha's hair?

It's perfectly fine to ask me for advice, but just so you know, I'm not the best at explaining my art processes tbh. I've never done an art tutorial or anything similar to that.

However, I tried making a small guide here on how to draw Ragatha's hair - well, how I draw it at least. It's sort of a rough sketch, but hopefully it'll be useful for you!

First off, I'd like to point out that when I began drawing her character, I used one of her official 2D artworks as reference to draw her hair, not her 3D model!

To be more specific, I used this one:

Another important thing to take into consideration is THE VOLUME her hair has.

If you have curly hair and it's long enough, you might know that to make it have that sweet sweet volume, you gotta style it in LAYERS! The same applies to Ragatha here, which you can actually see in the image above! If you wanna make her hair look voluminous, you need to draw it in layers (Assuming you'll be drawing it similarly to how it looks in canon - like dreadlocks)

Anyways, now onto the process!

1st step - Bangs

When drawing her hair, I will always start by drawing her bangs first. It helps me sort out where the other locks will be going for the most part.

I will always start by drawing the 4 locks that go on top of her forehead. The two in the middle will always be shorter than the ones on the sides, but that's just my preference.

Once that's done, I do the longer locks that go down along the sides of her face.

2nd step - Locks on top + bow

Bow is not mandatory, but I must admit it does make my life easier when i'm drawing her, because then i'll always know where to put the two locks she's got on top of her head - that being right where the bow begins - behind it.

3rd step - Superficial layer!

Once you get the two higher locks and the bangs done, this step becomes way easier. You just gotta fill the gap between them.

I'll normally draw 3 on each side, but of course that will depend on the thickness of the dreadlocks you're drawing. It's overall pretty simple.

I like making these 3 locks more droopy than the other 2 coming from behind the bow, but that's also just my own preference.

4th step - Secondary layer

As you can see in the two examples in the center, the shorter locks on top will sort of flow in the same way as the 2 smaller bangs in her front. They go up, then down.

The longer ones that go behind her neck will just go straight down since they're longer and therefore heavier, just like the two long locks on each side of her face.

Clean up + fixing asymmetry

In the top left example, some of the locks were asymmetrical, so I fixed that after cleaning up the sketch. Mistakes like these tend to be very noticeable once you clean things up, so try keeping each side as symmetrical as you can to one another, especially if you're drawing her front view.

Anyway, that's pretty much it for my process! I feel like I could've elaborated a bit more and made this more organized, but at the same time I kind of have no idea what to do lol sorry

What is your secret/tips when it comes to analyzing the art style and anatomy of TWST? 👀

Studying the rest of Toboso’s work as it was presented over time and how it evolved, identifying it, noting the patterns, breaking down how she came to the visual conclusions she did on top of what process is probably being taken in regards to twst, and putting that into practice when going off the beaten path to do my own thing with it.

I don’t know if that makes any sense. It’s just master studies. I’ve done it with Takahashi, Toriyama and a myriad of other artists I’ve liked. It’s kind of why my junk can kinda shift around when I feel like it. I have some gripes with that links wording, but it’s basically just that and not some grand secret. I only really came to a better understanding of how twst is constructed extremely recently when I got my physical hands on the first artbook. Then I realized how much I was overthinking. [shitty scans are my own]

You can even see the ghost lines and more of the uncertainties on where elements should go, and how they were ultimately changed.

Something about seeing the original card art completely broken down with notes and without all the bells snd whistles (and definitively from Toboso herself) kind of put into perspective how twst isn’t as complicated it seems to be when it’s cleaned up. It might be just me, but looking at a solely finished work can potentially skew someone’s perspective, especially if the only thing being noted is coloring- a completely seperate step altogether. Which I see a lot of, tbh. I’m not exempt no matter how deep in the rabbit hole I get.

But—

But, I probably shouldn’t be the one talking since I have like… [redacted] years of having a trained eye for that sort of thing.

I’m not too concerned about coloring ( again, separate step, and not even done by her), it’s the drawing part. That’s the actual meat and potatoes. So, someone could see competent twst coloring mastered but the drawings themselves aren’t really following the general processes at play, and folk will still call it the “twst style.” So, whenever anyone says that, even here, I’m not sure what others mean by that. What is this alleged “twst style?” (Disclaimer: Rhetorical)

Yeah it’s a combination of every element at once (as every style is), but as far as my learning goes- I define the quote “twst style” is just Yana Toboso’s general artwork (notably from the 2020s, but the rest are helpful). Even if there are other artists in D-6th that are contributing. They’re all essentially trying to accomplish a unified look and that unified look is based off of hers. So, I don’t find looking at just twisted wonderland itself all that beneficial, low key. I’ll look over Black Butler, her miscellaneous fanart, her disney fanart, whatever happens to cross my path that I think would be informative for my purposes. Again, I’m not looking at every possible thing ever, obviously, just what I think would be informative.

I’m not sure how often anyone thinks about that. Especially since her visual process just carries over nearly 1:1, even if her point of reference and intent on designing something changed.

It’s like how Snake from Black Butler and Silver look pretty similar. No, it’s not from being “lazy” which- side note I hate those bad faith reads, total peeve.

Designing Snake and designing Silver came from two completely separate and unrelated intentions nearly a decade apart from each other. It just happens there are tropes that she clearly likes as an artist when designing characters. I’m more inclined to believe based on what I’ve read and practiced that it’s just a case of that, nothing more.

Which makes me reflect on a lot of my own repeated visual tropes. Such as how a lot of my female character designs always end up having some form of short curly hair, meanwhile the male characters keep having long hair 😩 God knows the wavy asymmetrical swoop bang rearing it’s head. It’s not intentional, but it keeps happening anyway.

That’s the kinda joint I’m talking about with master studies. Again, not just looking at something and trying to mimic it, it does go into trying to break down the process even at that level.

All this reminds me of this conversation I overheard in college while I was stuck doing printmaking work— some person said they, really wanted to draw like the guy who made Naruto since they liked his artstyle. Only for some other guy to cut in like “No, you shouldn’t do that! That’s not original :/ you should figure out your own original style first” or something to that end. I partially wish I butt in to that conversation. I didn’t much like how quick that guy shut that person down either.

Because… That’s… that’s not even remotely how that works? How can a person even find their own style/voice/whatever without studying the work of someone that came before them? If they wanna draw like that mangaka, then let them learn via that avenue. You can’t work backwards starting from nowhere. I even learned that in character design.

This person would have learned a lot more about how the process works and what works for them in their attempts to understand his style. They’d find their own organically after that. It’d also be more fun for them in the moment since they’re focusing on something they like. Then when it comes time to learn the boring (but important) stuff like fundamentals, they’d be able to articulate themselves more and identify what they’re doing. (Don’t knock art history and bring stuck breaking down meaning in seemingly “useless” stuff.)

But I’m starting to digress on the common “ugh im not original and unique enough if im not immediately doing my own thing from scratch” thing I saw/ overheard too much during my years at that campus. (It also led to me seeing zero progression from beginning to end from those peers)

As for the whole twst art thing, I can’t really tell you what conclusions to draw should any of this be put into practice. That’s not up to me to say.

I’m of the mindset that if you can sufficiently understand at least one art style, you can pretty much do anything else you want.

Take that with what you will.

Tales Of Crystals

Hey in the early 90s Hasbro put out a tabletop roleplaying larp for tween girls called Tales Of The Crystals, and there's a lot going on here, so I want to talk about it.

First, I want to give credit to @riseupcomus on twitter for doing a thread on it first. Riseup's thread is linked at the bottom, right after hasbro's pdf of Tales Of Crystals.

Now, what is Tales Of Crystals? Well, it's a journaling game. And it's an indie TTRPG. And it's a larp kit. And it's an audio game. And it's a cryptography kit.

It comes with its own map, rulebook, a cassette tape with multiple scenarios, a non-dice-based resolution system, four player roles, and a ruleset that's split up so that each of the four players is in charge of a different part.

If feels like a high concept, big swing indie title from 2024, but it's got thirty years worth of jump on the modern scene.

The basic premise is that the players are crystal bearers in the court of a fantasy kingdom, and there's an evil nation in the goblin swamp next door, and they have to guard the nation against treachery and ensorcellment and whatnot. It's not super duper fresh, but with how many things the game is juggling it's extremely reasonable that the plot's a little plain.

Each player's crystal comes with a power, and the powers are asymmetrical. The Leader gets the Crystal Of Shimmering Ice, which lets you oneshot enemies (nonlethally, by freezing them for a minute.) The Protector gets the Crystal Of True Sight, and can see through all lies and enchantments and mind control enemies for a minute (tbh this one is just better). There's a healing crystal and an invisibility crystal as well---and interestingly the invisibility crystal is given to the role responsible for journaling everybody's adventures. The game recognizes that at least one player of a fantasy larp for tween girls in the 90s is probably going to be a wallflower writer, and deliberately enshrines that role.

Tales Of Crystals has a solid core loop, with a deck of cards for prompts and a cassette tape for scenarios and a little circle with YES and NO marked on it that you can scatter your gems onto to get oracle answers to questions during play. It also has a LOT of gimmicks.

There's a tube of powder you can sprinkle on things to disenchant them. There's a mirror you need to read script that's been written backwards. There's three cryptographic cyphers at the back of the book. There's a box specifically for confining the evil Spider Crystal (after you've sprinkled it with powder to neutralize it.) This is a game of dozens of components, and it's a miracle the design is so tight that they all loop together so well.

Now, I don't have sales data (riseup might,) but I suspect maybe this thing didn't sell amazingly. It requires you to set up six or so distinct locations around your yard, pretty much needs a group of exactly four friends to play it, requires you to give clue elements to your parents---you'd have to be cool with it, your friends would have to be cool with it, your parents would have to be cool with it, and you'd have to have a big suburban yard in order to get a proper intended game experience. That said, its larp design is really stable, its gameplay is carefully thought out, and it includes a section at the start to encourage you to play safely and a section at the end to talk about your game together, journal your experiences, and to clean up the game components as a group when you're done.

This is good tech! And it even specifically recommends having a snack and relaxing afterward.

Tales Of Crystals doesn't use terms like bleed and session zero, but it's a good ways ahead of the curve on larp and ttrpg safety.

I didn't find the designer's name (they're listed as uncredit on BoardGameGeek, not mentioned in the PDF, and missing from the wiki page,) but they knocked this one out of the park. There's stuff in here that modern indie ttrpg designers could learn from---myself very much included.

So if you like ttrpgs, 90s magic, and stuff like Tamora Pierce and Sailor Moon, give riseup's original thread a look, and definitely check out the PDF link.

I'm thrilled this thing exists, and I hope more designers get to look at it.

And of course I can give some tip I use!

I have to say I have many ways of shading and lighting so I will share my usual and then add some new one I have been experimenting

First: don’t do shadow on multiply ,that’s for later, shadows and lights are made on a mask layer and they are not just the darker shade of the colors, but a different color entirely

Same with lighting.

Some colors are easier than others for me tbh, like I love shading red and purple but blue not that much.

I also usually put blue everywhere cuz it looks pretty but it’s on me honestly

(Obviously I decrease the opacity of some layers, there is not really a rule, I just go as I like)

If it’s a style choice I also do shadow in light blue multiply, but just if I am in a rush or working with flat colors

Second: choose how you want to smooth your shading and light.

Over the years I picked up my own way to do it but lately I have been a little experimenting.

Anyway i always start of with defining shadows then get to smoothing, it’s tempting but I don’t advise the use of the airbrush, just use it for lighting maybe.

I am one of those artists that clears the shadows from the inside to the most exterior part

All the cleaning is made with a soft brush cuz it doesn’t have to be too definite.

In my latest comic tho the shooting was made the other way around with a water color brush to give this kind of 3d effect.

You essentially have to make some tests and find the one that you prefer.

Third: apply a layer of shadow in multiply to give more volume .

Usually when the work is done I add another layer of multiplied shadows that won’t be smoothed, just in the places that would cast a neat shadow, like a cape on the body, some fabric folds and some body shadows.

It really make things pop.

Four: don’t exaggerate, simpler is better, in both shadows and lighting, experiment , find your way but don’t rush , there is no need to exaggerate

Five: the subject of your drawing should be affected by the atmosphere.

For example if it’s night you can put a blue multiply layer over and erase where the soft light is, or don’t be afraid of adding some gradients of light is it’s a bright day outside, make the character be a part of the backgrounds

Six: you can color your lineart, it make the drawing very fine

That’s it mostly, I mostly go on the flow and I always test and try new stuff and you should try too to find you preferred way to do this stuff.

At least when it comes to drawing transformers... I don't put a lot of my other stuff up here haha. This guide probably won’t help with drawing TFP stuff tho. I like sticking to my cubes.

Who knows. Maybe this can help someone. Or provide amusement cause I have no idea what I'm doing. Just thought l'd share some stuff lol. And an unpopular art opinion.

So yeah, my secrets. Which like.... my art isn’t incredibly impressive or anything but... you get the point.

If you ever really wanted to try out whatever my style is called, here’s your guide. Along with a tutorial on how I draw Sunstreaker, but it’s like 5 steps lol.

This is the part where I share my tips and tricks yippee! Small disclaimer, I just kinda do half of this stuff as a go. There is no real order to this. I’m basically just explaining how my style works (despite how much my style varies tbh)

There’s a general build for the body that I’m pretty sure most people have figured out. The head, chest, torso, and weird hip thingy. Then the legs are broken into two main segments, the arms are broken into three, shoulder, upper arm, lower arm.

Here we go, unpopular art opinion rant.

When I make my base I usually work from the head down. Don’t be afraid to use the lasso tool to readjust the sizes of different components. If the head you started with has the right angle but is too small, lasso it and make it bigger. If ur doing traditional, sorry, you’re just gonna have to redraw it.

I’ll usually try and clean up overlapping lines, but I wanted yall to see the shapes before I did that.

Then we can start adding details. I look at other artist’s designs and the source material and pick out reoccurring traits that will help make the character easily identifiable.

I tend to add the most detail to the head simply because that’s what is commonly used to identify characters. Usually when designing my version of a character I allow myself to kinda make up details for this part.

But do feel free to add your own details to make sure people can tell it’s “your” design!

These are still very simple shapes and not detailed whatsoever. We are keeping it basic on purpose.

Very loose shapes, extremely vague idea. Just putting down the most identifiable parts that are important in building it, if that makes sense. I put down the bare minimum for this.

You really don't want to over complicate things. It makes it difficult for the viewer to figure out what's going on. A crowded design is distracting and unappealing. The simpler the better.

So now we have our sketch layer done. Because I'm impatient, it's line art time baby!

I end up just kind of feeling it out with line art. There will be some changes between the sketch and the line art. I’ll also use line weight to just general shading stuff sometimes. In this one it’s not very consistent but I was kinda losing motivation cause… adhd my beloved.

This is pretty self explanatory. Use your sketch to outline what you want, adding details as you go. I'll still leave my lines pretty loose and messy for most of these, just because it adds a bit more... character? Makes it feel more authentic? But feel free to clean it up as much as your little heart desires.

Smth im really passionate about is not overcomplicating the designs and crowding it. I know I already mentioned it once but… yeah.

While adding a bunch of detail can be cool, if not executed right, it can become overwhelming and difficult to understand visually. Keep it simple, you don't need to add every crease or seam. Just the important ones that can help a character stand out or fill in an awkward large space.

Usually after that l'll just put flat color down. Nothing fancy. I like to just do greyscale but you can go crazy. I'm not stopping you.

But adding a flat color under your line art helps pull together the sketch. It makes it easier for people to understand what is and isn't a character and makes it simpler to understand the character’s shape.

If I have several characters in one picture l'll usually make them separate colors to help make sure you can easily identify them as different people. I usually try to keep in mind the characters actual color when doing this. People with darker colors get a darker gray.

I’ll also try and give a different color to an object they are interacting with so it doesn’t get confused with the character themselves.

The entire reason I gave Sunstreaker a gun was to show this. I hate drawing guns.

These are also rarely perfect. As long as it's not extremely obvious that you're out of the lines, no one will notice. At least that’s been my experience.

I usually do this on separate layers

There's a lot of personalization when it comes to drawing and I don't know if I explained all of this very well. Ironically I don't really think much about how I'm doing it, I just... do it.

If you need any further explaining, I'll try my best to help. And if you made it this far ive got mad respect for you. I’m pretty sure I’m just rambling for half of this lol.

It's been almost a week since my last post and, believe it or not, home renovations continue!

TBH I have a fuzzier memory of what got done when so some of this may be guesses, but it's more or less accurate!

Last post was Thursday morning! All day Thursday the porch was worked on, and by that night, or maybe Friday, it had all the decking on it!

Part One: It was Thursday Yet!

I'd left my car out of the garage that day because I knew they needed to do some work in the garage for the roof and to more easily get to power. That night when I was going to move it back into the garage, my next door neighbor, on the side that already had the fence, came out to talk to me.

She first gushed about how great the front of my house looked. I was so happy and proud! She did tell me that I needed to cut my bushes in the front back, which, I do need to have that done, lol.

I showed her all the work getting done and she was really happy for me. We ended up talking about the fence for the first time, really, and she told me that she disagreed with her husband about putting the "ugly" part of the fence outside, too, but as he built he he told her he wanted to see the pretty side. Apparently even with an eyewitness and the EXACT LOCATION OF MY STUFF the police just did not give a fuck to follow up. Man, I wish I'd have known that fifteen years ago when it happened. Just... absolutely infuriating. How fucking useless, cops. NO thank you very much.

Anyway, that was a good time, and the longest conversation we'd ever had.

Either Friday or Saturday, I think Friday, Jose and Maria resumed work on the fence, AND FINISHED IT.

Holy shit, I had a fully enclosed yard. I was SO excited. I was practically giggling.

ALL of the junk is cleaned up and the rest of the chain link fence removed, but I'll save a full clean pic for the last update.

The alley side looks SO PRETTY!! And will be prettier when it's stained!

Also awesome is that i have a streetlight there that shines RIGHT into my backyard. It's already nicely lit. But I have plans for more lighting!

Not long after they left and I talked to Joel for awhile, I headed to Home Depot to buy a few things that we needed. Some of it maybe Joel should have paid for but I thought of it and I was there, so I bought the stuff.

First stop was the paint department. I brought the old can of paint for the living room wall and asked for a sample size of that. Turns out there were two colors that had had that same name and number. WHY, BEHR, WHY? I truly couldn't tell which was the right one from the picture. So, I just had them mix them both up. Ugh.

I also brought what I thought was the color I used in my bathroom and had them get me a sample of that because I needed to do some touch-ups. When I got home, I realized that that was actually the color I used for my doors. So I gotta go back and fix that. :p

I bought house numbers that need to go on the back of my fence (city regulation). I bought a new light to replace the porch light that broken. TBH it needed replacing, and I also wanted to make sure I got one I liked so I was fine paying for that. I got a gallon of white paint to paint my garage door, and a painting kit/tape since I didn't have any anymore, it'd been a long time since I painted. Oh, also some nice iron door handles to put on my gates so it'd be easier to pull them closed.

I'd bought a few things online over the week including new cushions for some of my patio furniture. So I when I got home from HD, I broke those out and was absolutely THRILLED to just chill out in my backyard that night for a bit.

I left the patio door open and let Fry and Pemily come hang out on the patio, too, since they now had no way to escape out of the yard. Neither of them are the escaping kind anyway, but I still never felt safe letting them hang out outside much at all, maybe one of them at a time for 2 or 3 minutes. But neither of them are good climbers so they had absolutely no way to get out now. Fry LOVED getting to explore a bit, and Pemily mostly stood near the door or near me, but it was a good experience for them.

I just want to also re-state that the little pole in the middle of the patio will be removed at some point when we no longer need the extra bracing.

I just sipped on my huge mug of water and truly enjoyed my backyard for the first time, pretty much ever, in 21 years of living here.

I believe Saturday while he was working on the fence, the roofers returned and did the first bit of putting the shingles on the patio. They didn't finish, there was some extra work to do at the "crease" where the roof met the Patio, but a good bit of it was done.

Part Three: No-Work Sunday

Sunday I visited my parents, and so no work got done.

On Saturday I'd told Joel that I wouldn't be home Sunday because I was going to visit my parents. I said they were leaving and it'd be the last time I'd see them for a few months so I HAD to go. I thought he asked me where they were going, so I said where, which is a several hour drive away. He asked when I'd be back, so I said Sunday evening. Hilariously, he was very confused because what he'd actually asked me is where do they live now, and the answer to that is about an hour away from me. He didn't understand how I'd be driving like 7 hours to visit them and then be back that same evening, lol.

My bad, I didn't listen well enough.

Sunday it also rained for the first time since the week of the storms that kicked off all this work, and we needed it. We wanted to do the fence staining that day while I was out but couldn't happen.

And then it rained Monday. The roofers returned Monday, though, and finished the roof!

We hadn't put a gutter on the back roof, but it was raining when I was home Sunday night it had rained it was clear we needed a gutter. The rain was dripping off the wood facing, and most of it came down hard at the place where the big slant of the roof met the patio roof.

So Joel and I talked about it, and agreed to each pay half to get a gutter put up. It was fair.

Part Four: Odds and Ends

Monday Jose came and took care of a lot of the odds and ends. Fixed the ceiling in the garage... did I mention a roofer also put his foot through the garage? Again, he was fine, but just a second hole in the garage wasn't my favorite thing. But it's fixed, no big deal!

This hole is no longer there.

He fixed the bathroom light that had come loose. This is obviously before it was fixed.

He put the new light outside on the patio against the wall. I need to take a picture of that!

There's a little hole near the patio that needs to be filled in with dirt from elsewhere. I put some cute little solar lights I'd bought around the hole to mark the hazard.

I had bought little cat doors. Buster and Peter had both figured out how to get into the yard again, but I'm sure it's a pain for them. Also, I HAVE to have a window in the fence where the water meter is so that the water department can come by and read the meter, so I'm just putting a cat door there, too. The boys (and hopefully the possum, who I haven't seen since the fence went in) will have an easier way to get in and out.

But we can't put those in, or the gate handles, or the house numbers, up until we can stain the fence. But it rained Sunday and Monday, and last night. So, no stain yet. Tomorrow, probably! I picked the color out just based on a picture, and I like it, and my neighbors like it, so hopefully I'll have pictures soon of it looking great!

The living room hole also got worked on yesterday and today. More spackle went up, and today he came and did the texturing on both the wall and ceiling. Tomorrow I think it all gets painted and it'll be like it never happened!

Part Five: I... Might Get the Power?

Back on Friday, Joel, Jose and I were discussing the porch and Joel suggested that I get a patio light installed in the patio instead of just the light on my house, and maybe an outdoor ceiling fan/light. That was a great idea. I didn't know if I could afford it, though. The budget was already gone, and my reserve savings, which isn't much, was really started to get low, too. But, honestly, I did want that fan and a couple of other things.

The problem was that we can't finish the patio until the wiring is done for any electric stuff going on in it.

I texted Joel's electrician Friday night, he said he'd get back to me but didn't over the weekend. When Joel was there Monday, he called Alberto, the Electrician, for me and he said he'd be by today (Tuesday.)

Tonight, after work I fell asleep on the couch watching Make Some Noise (I was real tired, ok?) Fry woke me up by coming to cuddle with me and it was really sweet. And then the doorbell rang around 6:15pm.

Heeey, it was Arturo! He had been doing a job in Fort Worth and apologized for coming so late. It's cool.

So we went to the patio, and he gave me a price I was shocked at was so low (though I had no idea it would cost, I just figured more than that) to wire things up for the fan and then install it after the porch ceiling was on. He also then whipped out his phone, had me pull up Amazon on mine, and directed me to a really good price on a fan he thought would do the job well. That also cost way less than I'd assumed it would. Awesome.

I also wanted an electric outlet on the patio, since there was none. I pointed out where the washer/dryer was opposite one part of the patio, he said no problem, and gave me the price for that outdoor outlet with a waterproof cover. Fantastic.

Since everything was pretty reasonably priced, I then showed him the master bath, which honestly I haven't really used in years. There is no outlet in there and the shower is a dumb size/shape so I practically only have one bathroom in a 2 bath house. He said he could cheaply put a new outlet next to the lightswitch. GREAT.

And then the big thing. The Office (aka what most people use as their living room.) There is NO LIGHTING in this room. I mean, I have a lamp here on my desk and I put some LED lighting behind the TV but neither of those is much. It seems RIDICULOUS that there's no lighting in this, the room that should be the living room. After some discussion, we settled on what I ALWAYS WANTED, for the last 21 years, some recessed lighting with a dimmer.

I wanted to cry from joy. It's another expense I didn't plan for, but all together the price is VERY reasonable for what I'm getting, way less than I dreamed it would be, and it's resolving several of my biggest gripes about the house, plus upgrading the patio significantly.

Tomorrow Arturo is coming to wire the patio for the fan/light so Jose can get back to finishing the patio, and he'll be back to install everything else when the Patio is ready, so late this week or sometime next week. FINE WITH ME!

Part Six: Conquering the Mountain

I have a terrible confession to make: My garage has been a horrible mess for many years. I tackle it a bit sometimes, but uh... not enough. Honestly, was embarrassing this week every time this week anyone needed to do anything in it. Plenty of space to park the car but uhhh... not much else.

The worst part of it is Laundry Mountain. Really, two mountains. No, there's not pictures of the garage past what you've seen. Very cropped. Honestly haven't put my clothes away in my bedroom in years, it all just gets washed and thrown on Laundry Mountain and I just pick what I want to wear off of/out of the mountain. It's... not great. And has been going on uh...longer than I'm going to admit.

The house itself sometimes gets a bit cluttered (tbh it's on the cluttered side now but I've been decluttering lately and it's gonna get back to organized pretty soon) but nothing like the garage.

It is A Problem.

Joel kind of jokingly scolded me about it and said he could get some guys to come haul all the junk out for a reasonable rate.

I told him maybe, but I needed to get the stuff out that I wanted to keep first.

Tonight, I started tackling the bigger pile of Laundry Mountain.

I threw out two medium-sized trash bags of mostly old, shitty clothes that like, the elastic rotted out of, or were just worn out or stained. Also, just some legit junk mixed in there.

I sorted and bagged up another trash bag of clothes to donate.

And then everything I might want to keep, which, tbh, was way too much, got dumped on my spare bedroom bed. Not the best solution, but it's a good place for it to be so I can sort again in the A/C and be close to where stuff can be put away. I'm thinking of it as one round of easy choices, and then a second round of taking inventory so I can choose the things I REALLY want / have room for and will do a more aggressive sort before putting away what I really want to keep.

I think I made it through about half of the bigger mountain in two hours. The hot water heater & washer/dryer are now completely accessible and the walkway to the door into the house is clear instead of just having a path.

it's a start! I'm proud of me.

TBH there's other reasons I'm proud of me lately that I'm not ready to post about, but maybe someday soon. But that other reason was really feeding into the clutter problem before I tackled it, and now that it's way more under control, getting the house to an amazing state is much easier. All of the work being done is the rest of the motivation I needed.

Anyway, need to head to bed now. Another update probably when all the actual work with Joel, Jose and Arturo is done!

is tidying up part of the maids or is it an overall love of cleaning.

Both kinda. Though sometimes it's hard to muster the energy to deal with a lot of household chores, it's something i tend to like to do. It gives me an opportunity to listen to music and zone out and mindlessly do stuff. I think it's kind of become a replacement to going to the gym. I used to go to the gym a lot, and I'd mindlessly do activity (usually cardio) and listen to music, but I fell out of habit of going to the gym cuz fatigue set in and working the energy to leave the house or get dressed can kinda suck. It also kinda plays into getting to make my home clean and nice and pretty for friends and lovers (not to mention my husband who lives with me). Like, cleaning the dishes means I can properly maintain them and have them ready to go when I cook for those I love, and I love to cook. This stuff has kinda always been around for a long time tbh. Just a desire to look good and smell good and have the house the same way.

The maid thing definitely developed after, it's much newer. But it's not that wild considering how much I do enjoy cleaning and stuff. And, hey, it's like added bonus. "I'm the head maid here I gotta show the girls how it's done" lol.

How do you deal with artblock?

to be honest, once i realize i have artblock i stop drawing for a couple of days. if i keep insisting on drawing i just get more and more frustrated and it makes it worse imo. so i like to spend some time doing my other hobbies!!! (´▽｀)

usually i just come back to drawing once i regain motivation or i get a cool idea that i need to sketch so i wont forget. and when that happens, my artblock is usually gone!! so,, i guess i just wait for it to go away? lol not much advice i can give on that sadly :/

Describe your process while drawing!

CHAOTIC. to say the least.

i spend like. half an hour on pinterest beforehand getting inspo & searching for refs and ONLY THEN i can start drawing. i start on SAI1, do the sketch and if i like how it looks, i just clean it up. if it dont, i do 'proper' lineart. after that i start coloring and shading!! this is my fav part tbh. once im done shading i color the lineart so its not completely black. then i open up SAI2 and start doing more rendering, adding overlays & effects. that part is also SO FUN cause it makes everything come together so nicelyy. my art process is a pretty big 'trust the process' till that part lol.

there's ALWAYS music or yt videos playing in the bg, and me taking A LOT of 15 minutes breaks cause that one song is so good and i have to stop drawing and start singing while looking at the spotify lyrics like im hypnotized LMAO

What do you thin you artstyle woukd taste like?

people always say my art looks so tasty and. i kind of agree!! like. smth very sweet. it really depends on the colors i use on the piece but,,, either hard candy, gummies, marshmallows or even syrup i think!!!

What's a compliment about your art that has always stuck with you?

i get super giddy with every compliment i get so i dont think i can remember one in particular??? but istg people always say the funniest, most sweet things ever and it's so nice to hear :3 but if i had to say smth,,, i once had the chance to talk with this one incredibly talented illustrator, and he kept telling me how he thought my stuff looked amazing. and i was like!!! wow!!! you actually like my stuff?? what!!!!

Piece of advice for my younger artist self

i would sit this little girl down and talk to her for hours tbh poor thing was STRUGGLING 😭😭😭

i guess my best advice for her (and for anyone who reads this, too!) is to not be so hard on yourself. art is a skill, and it takes a lot of time to build it up!!!

i used to get SO extremely upset when my stuff didnt look the way i wanted it to and ughhh. took me literal years to find my artstyle too and that didn´t help AT ALL with how frustrated i was feeling. i felt,,, stuck??

but now i look back at my art journey and. wow have i improved!! maybe if that little girl saw the stuff i do today she wouldn´t be so sad about her art :´] not to say i don´t struggle today, i still feel stuck and frustrated often!! but i guess i learned to be kinder to myself. but i still have lots of things to improve about my art!! i wonder when i´ll take another look back and see how much i´ve progressed since today,,,

Hey so idk ur ocs so just go off about your fave. What are they like? How are they as people? What makes them so likable to you?

God can I just say how sweet it is of you to go out of your way and send some random strangers questions about their OCs?? I am honestly tossing some glitter and confetti your way because it's just so thoughtful and rarely done tbh so let me preface the upcoming ramble with a huge thank you ! ♡♡

(( also gdi I hope you do not mind having traipsed right into the den of creepy, dark and gruesome OCs™ I apologize profoundly ahah T_T )) Let me put the thing under the cut because immediately three of my OCs perked up (scratch that and make that four the hornet's nest truly has been kicked now AHAH).

The sleepy head that just peeked out after being dormant for god knows how long is also one of my oldest OCs and still very dear to me - Leareth, a Malkavian Vampire I made with and for a roleplaying partner of about... almost 2 decades past. Here is a very quick doodle I made of him:

Malkavian Vampires all suffer from some kind of delusion or other, and hid most defining one is him not knowing he IS a malkav to begin with, but considers himself Toreador (in case you don't know the Vampire the Masquerade lore - he basically believes he is born to a different house/family, so to speak) He's also extremely androgynous and likes to play with that a lot. As a "person", he is usually one of the more agreeable, gentler types (unless he hasn't fed in a while) - albeit rather anxious and easy to scare off. Him having been one of my first OCs is naturally one of the reasons I like him so much, but he also has so many facets about him, and developed so much during the time I wrote him (becoming more and more confident and coming out of his shell, for one). The next one would be Oliver Park, a character I have played in various settings. Bottom line is that he is proficient in archery and parkour, which in most settings he utilizes to hunt - monsters, demons, vampires or whatever the verse I write him in allows. He usually also sells parts of what he hunted. Again a quick doodle to show the guy off:

He's in most cases also working a day-job as a barista and has QUITE the attitude to him. He's a notorious liar and pretty self-confident bordering on arrogant, with a highly troubled past & family story. Oli was one of the first OCs which were "different" from what I would usually create in terms of background, character type and flaws, which reserved him a special place in my heart.

Lastly, I have been starting to flesh out two new OCs which have not much of a backstory yet, they just pretty much made themselves known, propped up a couch in my last remaining braincells and have been occupying those with their feet on the coffee table ever since. I have literally no clue what's going on with Omen's face (the one with the skeleton part as a mug), but I could see him being a Nosferatu in a Vampire the Masquerade verse, or a demon. We'll see what they give away about themselves over the next weeks, I suppose! But yes, those are them:
