When your attracted to the concept of intense love (of any kind), and giving into the desires even though trying not to.

This paraphilia usually refers to two or more people: someone deeply in love forcing the other one to accept their love for them in any ways or methods (Not them forcing it necessarily like a yandere). But not necessarily have to fit this

Hey I appreciate ur posts on maps tbh. I have all three of the Big Three, and while the other two aren’t distressing for me (I’m still no contact for obvious reasons), being a map is something that keeps me up at night. I like get genuine nightmares about hurting kids bc of shit I can’t control. I know not all of us are distressed or disordered, but it’s so so helpful for the ones like myself who DO struggle with disgust and shame. Because shame is a really REALLY bad deterrent for any activity. And you can explain why actions are wrong without shaming someone for having those thoughts and feelings and no desire to actually act on them.

When I feel more like a person rather than a predator, I won’t prey like one, Yknow?

<3 i am very glad my posts have been appreciated. shame truly is an awful deterrent. my paraphilias make me feel like a monster, and that shame is part of why i drink/use drugs because... substance users/addicts are also demonized and my (completely unhealthy) thought process is basically "if you want a monster, i'll be a monster."

so in my case it ends up hurting me, but i can see how someone could go the opposite direction and end up hurting someone because they feel like nothing they do could ever be good anyway. altho i am obviously not saying people who do that are justified in their actions. they are not. it's just that abuse is a societal issue as much as it is an interpersonal one.

versus humanizing people... it validates their feelings and depth as a person, and makes them more likely to cope with life and express their attraction in healthy ways. so yeah. i am definitely with you anon, and i hope you experience more compassion and support as time goes on <3 stay strong.

The concept of a paraphilia was created in 1903 by a sexologist as "all sexual acts that don't result in procreation". It was generally adopted as a term for any sexual act deemed deviant by society, and so in the DSM it essentially reads as having the bad sex disease.

Homosexuality, being transgender, were both paraphilias in the past, and honestly being transgender is still in the DSM with the Blanchard topology bullshit (ie. AGP, HSTS).

It's a meaningless term that really is not useful and only serves to moralize sexual attraction and chastise anyone deemed deviant. Diagnosis of a paraphilia has been used as grounds for castration.

I think it's important to note that attraction is not a desire to actually do something irl. For example: I may find it really hot to imagine being murdered, I do not wish to be murdered irl. Most people understand that concept, the same applies to any other expression of sexuality including those deemed a paraphilia. Sexual violence generally occurs as a result of a power imbalance and a desire to have power over an individual, not a result of attraction. Generally. I'm sure there are exceptions.

Using "paraphiles" allows you to target moral, ethical people by evoking the vagaries of forensic psychology. I think sometimes the intent is to blur the line between ethical kink and hallmarks of abuse.

You can honestly call somebody a "paraphile" for getting off to the feeling of leather, all the while dishonestly leveraging that label to associate them with pathological abuse without ever actually, technically, lying.

I can't see a genuine reason to call somebody a paraphile beyond this. It's simply too broad a term to serve any honest purpose beyond the blandest, driest descriptions of sexual phenomena; even in that case such descriptions implicitly position procreative sex as an unexamined norm, which of course benefits conservative/right-wing ideologies.

I suppose somebody self-describing as a paraphile might be trying to subtly signal something criminal? Or it could be another weird 4ch/fash attempt to split or fracture broadly resilient LGBT/kink solidarity by tricking people into defending illegal or reprehensible acts under some new faux "pro-paraphilia" movement?

I'm gonna need everybody on this website to stop saying "paraphilia" and "paraphiles" and start saying what they're actually talking about

* For the record btw a paraphilia by definition is just any sexual desire classed as "unusual" by the dsm, which can include anything from apparently getting horny about imagining yourself as a vampire (?) to being attracted to fictional characters, to being attracted to trans people. It's not an issue unless it has the capacity to cause real harm to yourself or others, at which point it becomes a paraphilic disorder
