Can we talk about how pantheon weaves the exploration of grief into every aspect of its story!!!!!! Specifically, the show captures the complex nurture of grief by highlighting the different stages of grief through its individual character and how they progress throughout the story
First, you have Ellen, who represents denial. She lost her husband, David, and somewhat forces acceptance upon herself and her daughter. Even though the story picks up after David’s death, we see Ellen’s journey through grief when David comes back. Ellen’s acceptance of her loss is juxtaposed with denial. When her husband comes back, she’s confused and hurt. She doesn’t want to accept he’s back because, well how could she? She’s lived two long painful years without him. She’s gone through so much, having to accept that he’s gone just for hime to come back. She’s terrified with the pain that comes along side embracing him. If she accepts him as alive again, she also has to accept the possibility of losing him again. She has to learn to accept the pain that accompanies love. Even though she eventually accepts David, her denial to his resurrection is still highlighted earlier on in the show.
There’s also Chanda. He is a not so subtle representation of the anger associated with grief. He literally burns a building and kills a family because he was blinded by his grief. He was grieving his life, and how he would never live as he once did. All of his actions are propelled by his anger over the loss of his life. He is desperately trying to achieve what he never got the chance to while he was human. He’s trying to create the world he never got to live in. He can’t accept the way things are because he’s still stuck in his anger over his loss.
Next, there’s Cody. He represents bargaining. He can’t accept the loss of his wife, so he does anything minimize and postpone his sadness. He doesn’t question or deny Laurie when she comes back like Ellen did with David. Rather he accepts her without a second thought. His actions aren’t solely propelled by love, but rather his avoidance to pain. Even before he knew Laurie’s upload was successful, he didn’t accept that she was gone. He still felt that she was alive and the same as she had been. When she came back, he did anything for Laurie because he didn’t want to lose her or accept that things had changed. He did everything in his power to keep things the same and try to live as he did before. When Laurie is prepared to die to spread her message to the world, he doesn’t accept losing her again. Rather, he prepares to “reboot” her and keep thing the way the are, even though they’re not.
Next there’s Capsian, who represents depression. Now the thing he’s mourning is a bit different from the other characters in this analysis. He isn’t mourning the physical death of someone, but rather the death of his innocence. He found out he was a clone and that his entire life was a lie. Everything he thought he knew wasn’t real, and that’s terrifying. While he goes through the other stages of grief, the show draws attention to the depression part of grief through Caspain. He quickly recognizes the true extent of his loss but still struggles to accept and cope with it. Thus, he is easily manipulated by Pope and throws himself into curing the flaw because to him it’s a way to avoid the looming hopelessness of his situation. He’s lost interest and passion for the things he once cared about, and focuses on what he feels he has to do. He feels hopeless, and desperately trying to cure the flaw is his way of trying to reclaim agency. If he solves the problem, he regains some control over the hopelessness he feels.
Finally, there Maddie, who represents the complex journey to acceptance. Throughout the show, she experiences all the stages of grief. The show focuses on her journey to accepting the loss of her father and the life she once had. We watch her go through the stages of grief at her own pace and eventually come to terms with her loss. We watch her grow into the person that can eventually let her father pass. We watch her move forward despite her loss. She still is in unimaginable pain because of the death of her father, but she still keeps moving.
While all of the characters experience all the stages of grief, it feels like the show focuses on specific stages with specific characters. Pantheon displays how grief is complicated and messy, and not just some straight line. It highlights non-linear growth and how character progress and regress throughout their respective journeys with grief. It shows how grief isn’t something that it easily overcome, but rather a long and exhausting process. It shows through its main cast how each stage of grief is its own journey and hurtle to overcome. Pantheon demonstrates that even after you accept loss fully, it doesn’t take away from the immense pain loss causes you to feel. All you can do is keep moving forward.

Pantheon S2 Spoilers
Ya know, I've been in this fandom a couple weeks at most, and I've looked at... SOME posts. But I haven't seen anyone talking about how MIST lost her dad too. How Cody and Ellen were her step-parents. How she was practically "born" an orphan.
I FEEL LIKE THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN PRETTY SIGNIFICANT.

Pantheon season 1 didn't deserve Pantheon season 2.
TL;DR - Just watch season 1 and stop there. Strong start but runs out of steam by the series' halfway point.
Season 1 was a really interesting take on transhumanism and the dangers in the wrong people chasing it, and had the really good triumvirate of Laurie-David-Vinod showing a spectrum of different responses to finding yourself as something other than human, and their interactions with each other and the human cast were wonderfully compelling.
Maddie and Caspian's stories are also great in season 1. They are both weighty things that work independently while being related. Ellen and Cody and Justine are brilliant supporting players.
It was overall just a great watch.
~
Then season 2 happened. Maddie's impact on the plot dropped significantly for a much greater focus on Caspian for the first four episodes, and when she was brought back up to top billing she was shoehorned (unconvincingly) into being Caspian's love interest rather than showing her own issues with what was happening.
Mist was introduced way too late (probably had more time with her in the original stories).
Vinod basically ceased to exist as a character, existing only as a set piece for Holstrom (and died accomplishing exactly nothing).
The philosophical angle was greatly scaled back to just played-straight sci-fi action moments.
Joey, Olivia, Farhad and Yair were also introduced too late (again, probably better pacing in the stories - though Yair did steal the show in the episode where he gets most focus).
The teen pregnancy angle was utterly unnecessary. Caspian being a father was completely un-utilised for the final two episodes.
Said final two episodes were just a goddamn mess. Might as well have been another show entirely for how jarringly tone-different they are.

honeymoon;

Day five Thursday July 4
We sleep in. Today is our last day in Rome. We wait in line for the greatest pizza in the world at Piccolo Bucco; the ingredients are fresh and the burrata (cream encased with mozzarella) on top is a culinary breakthrough. We see the (outside only) Pantheon ~25 BC originally built as a tribute to the twelve gods, and reconstructed ~118-125 AD as a Catholic church; it is so incredible, Cody appears to be inserted by photoshop when photographed in front of it. We walk through the botanical garden, which my husband thoughtfully included in our itinerary just for me. We eat at a Michelin rated restaurant, Antico Arco; we buy an outrageously expensive, 20 year aged bottle of wine; greater amberjack ceviche with sweet potato mousse was my personal dish; Cody orders the black truffle carbonara and filet mignon; the kitchen generously gifts us small dishes throughout the meal; the dessert is so extraordinarily fancy, it is too difficult to describe; everything was….incredibly perfect. We return to the speakeasy where a local tells us the linguistic origin of Sacramento. We walked over 50 kilometers during our time in Rome.

LANIDS - Set in the Andromeda galaxy several thousand years in the future, it follows the titular character Landis, a reptilian alien the last of his kind. He slept through an entire generations-long war powered by magic and now he must "catch up" on the time he missed and reconnect the galaxy with its forgotten magic.
Pantheon - Set in modern day America, it follows Lachesis (one of the Fates) and Aeon (the messenger of the Zodiac) as they try to piece together the powers that keep humanity running. [This one is the least complete of the stories]
HIM - Set in a parallel world where humans are anthropomorphic cats and soulmates exist. It focuses on three characters: Harvey, Icarus, and Mars (hence the title) whom lead strained interconnected lives. Harvey and Icarus are soulmates separated by The Outreach and Mars is the only one with powers to bring them together.
Powered - Set on an Earth where a few thousand individuals have obtained superpowers from the deadly "Rad-Virus". The story follows Marcus aka Stormchaser, Lexi aka Dino Girl, Cody aka Lifeline, and Roxanne aka Werewoman, as they balance a "normal" life with vigilante justice.
*Fleeing West - Set on a fantasy world run by dragons. The story focuses on a set of aquatic pirate dragons and how their matriarch lives long enough to see herself become the villain.
* this title name is not finalized and may change in the future.
Please note that all stories will feature LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, and disabled characters and will focus heavily on found family/family dynamics and mental health. So if you have a problem with any of that, please ignore my poll and block me if you have to. Otherwise, please reblog my poll! It would mean so much to me!

i'm going to start adding more ocs that align with my 'auris' verse, which is an original lore meant to be a series of novels. i have a few ideas in my drafts that are old characters to be transferred over, but i'm also thinking of adding a few more.
within the lore, i feel like i have a few different stories within the main canon ( codie's whole deal ) that i can play with, too. after all, codie's whole thing is centered in one area of the world and only deals with One of the elder pantheon.
i know for sure i want to make a p.edro p.ascal as a mentor figure of sorts, a f.reddy c.arter dealing with the divine pantheon, and a j.essie m.ei li as a part of a prequel that tells the story of how the city of auris was created, all for separate stories and separate timelines away from codie's.
