envisioning citygirl!reader getting forced by her dad to go stay with grandma in bumfuck nowhere america bc of some reason and she is so not happy with it bc how is one supposed to have a brat summer amongst the corn?? ofc she’s not as peeved when she realizes her grandma’s ranch hand is an incredibly hot art donaldson and she suddenly spends all her time on the front porch in the shortest denim shorts she owns sipping sweet tea and letting it drip down her chin and neck whenever she feels him watching her as he fixes her grandma’s fence and she flirts with him sososo hard but art is a good ! christian ! man ! the type to have a high school sweetheart who has a promise ring that matches his own! he’s only working at your grandma’s ranch to save up for the engagement ring,,,,but he doesn’t mind the newfound attention from you with your sultry smiles and filthy mouth. he doesn’t mind that at night when he’s all needy and alone he’s thinking of bending you over the railing of that front porch and pounding into you while he’s fisting his cock as long as he doesn’t cave in no matter how hard you try
hhhhhh
seducing him into fucking you on the guestroom you're staying in for the summer - promising you won't tell - you're only here for a few short months, and it's a big commitment he's making, signing his life away to one woman so early? besides - doesn't he want to be good at sex for when he gets hitched? does he want to be a one pump chump?
he doesn't. your reasoning makes just enough sense to him to condone his cheating- it's just for practice - just to get good at it by the time he proposes to his sweetheart. and you'll be long gone by then - it has nothing to do with the fact that he's weak and just wants to stick his dick in something warm and wet so badly - he's tired of being so good all the time - being the perfect church going golden boy, the perfect boyfriend, the perfect son and grandson, perfect everything else.
he wants to be imperfect for once, maybe. give into his desires and be wicked. even if it's just for him - just a secret.
it's just for the summer. it's just for practice.
that's what you both tell yourselves anyway, when you drag him into the barn when your grandma is making lunch and sink to your knees to show him what it feels like to have a warm mouth around his cock. encouraging him on how to hold your head - how to flex his hips - "look at me." you tell him, tonguing the head, "you have to look at me and tell me how good it is." then you add, "that's what girls like." so he thinks you're just coaching him, and not just speaking on your own desires, which you are. you have no fucking clue what his stupid little girlfriend would be into- you only care that his calloused hand slides against your cheek. fingers in your hair - "it does feel good." he breathes, eyes looking panied as you sink your mouth down around him. all the way to the base. "you're so fucking pretty - oh my god -"
it's just for the summer. it's just for practice. that's what you tell yourselves when you shyly part your legs and let him tongue gently at your swollen pussy. when he moans at your taste and delves his tongue between your fat lips and licks inside - and you clench your hands in his hair and rut against his face - he's a fucking natural at it, you tell him. fucking magical with that tongue - jesus god. makes your legs shake as you drench his tongue in your cum not five minutes later -
it's just for the summer it's just for practice when you sink down onto his cock in the loft above the barn, warm stacks of hay surrounding you and not the most comfortable but you can't risk it in your bedroom today - not when so many guests are over - but you can't stay away from eachother either - under the guise of teaching him "how a girl rides someone." when really you just want to be close to him - feel those warm work worn hands on your hips, guiding you up and down on his hard cock - and the ruse is temporarily forgotten when he switches you, and you're on your back and he's sliding over you and back in you, rolling his hips - he's gotten so fucking good at sex - so good at fucking - your legs wrap your his moving hip and you kiss eachother, warm and wet and it feels alot like making love - the kind of sex he's mean to have with his girlfriend and future wife - and not with you, his secret summer paramore. you push that thought away, muffle your whimpers into his warm shoulder and hold him close.
it's just for the summer. it's just practice.

Chapter 1 I Wanna Be Yours Masterlist
My breathing becomes rapid as I wait to go on stage. The anticipation before a performance has always been the reason for my heart racing and my nerves are heighten. The warmth of a larger tanned hand enveloping my own instantly quiets the noise in my mind. “You look like you’re ready to crawl out of your skin, Dove.” I smile and look at Lian, my dance partner, my love. His warm brown eyes, twinkling under the mage lights. He smiles and it’s so disarming and causes butterflies to flutter in my stomach. “You are radiant.”
I giggle, and smooth out my dance dress the flowing skirts various shades cobalt that stops at my knees. The bodice having an intricate design of silver swirls against the blue corset like top. “You say that every show.” His free hand plays with one of the lose curls framing my face, the rest of my hair in a tight ornate bun. I take in his form; his outfit matches mine in hue with his pants various levels of blue with a simply white tunic that reveals some of his tone chest the silver pendant you gave him wrapped around his neck. “I have to say, Lian, you’re not so bad yourself.”
Lian chuckles as He lifts my hand to his lips, pressing them to my knuckles specifically where the ring he had given me resides. “I mean it Lydia. I love-
The music swells in the auditorium the melody, the indication I need to appear. “See you out there, Lover Boy.” He releases my hand as I begin to leap onto the stage and into Fourth position. Feeling Lian’s warm gaze upon my body, causing my cheeks to redden. I begin the routine.
My movements are fluid, my turns sharp. Seraphina’s words in the back of my mind, “Keep those feet pointed, arms straight, girl.” Her raspy voice rings in my ears as I correct my feet and my arms. Allowing the music to enter my body once again. I am its puppet, the symphony my puppeteer.
I swirl my skirt whirling around me the shades of blue looking like rippling waves around me. And I begin the movements that lead to my big leap when I notice one of the musicians hit the incorrect note. Seraphina always said to not let the musicians’ mistakes be your downfall on the stage. Heading that advise I push through tampering my annoyance I run and take in the air. My grin big, my legs stretched wide, I feel as though I’m flying, and in this moment one thing rings true, there will never be a more freeing feeling than this.
The other musicians’ notes turn sharp and out of tune, and the disruption despite what I was taught causes me to stumble my landing. I hiss as my ankle rolls, causing my body to collapse to the ground, but I don’t think about the pain as screams erupt from the theater.  Tanned Hands are instantly on my waist hoisting me up and the familiar smell of soap and ocean waves crash tells me its Lian. I smell the flames before I see them. “Lian, we have to get out of here.” My voice trembles as fear begins to consume me.
Flames erupt around the theater as the ground shakes before us Lian grabs me closer to me. "I'm sorry dove," he whispers.
"For what?" He presses his forehead to mine. Panic laces my voice as he grips me tighter, his thumb grazing against my hip in a soothing manner. Confusion washes through me at his behavior, we should be trying to leave to get out of here. “Lian, you’re scaring me.”
"I love you more today than I did yesterday." He murmurs in my hair. My chest feels heavy like someone is applying all their weight over my heart at his words. I can’t breathe. He looks at me expectantly and my stomach gets a sinking sensation.
I shake my head as tears pool in my eyes and begin to run down my face, as I cup his cheek, "Why does this feel like a goodbye?" I cry out while he waits patiently waiting for me to finish his statement. The sounds around us muted by the intensity this conversation has become.
"Finish it, dove. Please." The banisters above us crash, and the flames lick my skin as he grips me closer to his chest. “We don’t have a lot of time.”
I tremble, and press his lips to mine quickly, "I'll love you more tomorrow than I did today." He kisses my lips once more, just when the stage collapses, he pushes me out of the way. The warmth of his touch lingering on my skin as I watch him get consumed by the hole where the stage once stood. Arms wrap around me, hoisting me up and dragging me to safety. I begin to thrash and scream, calling out to him, "Lian, LIAN!"
My Screams the only sound in the burning auditorium.
“Wake up, Lydia! Wake! Up!” Dain’s voice breaks through the darkness and my eyes open with a jolt and I sit up. My eyes can’t seem to focus, and I don’t recall where I am, Dain’s hands grip my shoulders, and my gaze quickly moves to my brother. His eyes hold concern in them, his brows furrowed, “You were just having a dream.” His thumbs rubbed my shoulders, “You were out for two days.”
“Two days.” Memories of golden yellow eyes and how the blue daggertail bowed to me. A dragon had bowed to me! I lived to tell the tale of my first interaction with a dragon.
I slowly lift my hands and wrap them around his wrists as though I need proof, he is really with me. His eyes glance at my hand and spot the silver band with a swirls throughout the band and the initials LD engraved in it. “I didn’t think he would let you keep anything after mom left.” His brown eyes meet mine.
I quickly remove my hands with a scoff. “The General doesn’t get to dictate what I keep and what gets thrown away. Even if he thinks he does.” My mind goes back to watching as he destroyed one set of my pointe shoes. I smile, what he didn’t know on that day, that in my bag, the new pair I had bought from the traveling market were there.
Dain releases my shoulders, pinching the bridge of his nose, “Lydia he is only trying to protect you.” He lowers his hands and shoots me a glare, “As am I.” His tone is clipped.
I blink and my lip curls, “What’s that supposed to mean?” I cross my arms.
My brother leans against his chair, also crossing his arms a familiar stance we have taken over the years. One that only led to one of us screaming and the other either with tears, or a broken nose. Dain’s nose has never looked the same since. “Are you aware whose dragon it was that you enticed?”
Rage consumes my body, “You want to ask that again, Brother?” I quirk a brow at him.
“No.” His tone is just like the general’s, too much like him.
“You know I don’t know, so don’t be a condescending prick and just tell me.” I begin to stretch my legs under the blankets my feet naturally pointing. The numb feeling shifting into pins and needles my legs has been in one position for too long. I need to get up…I need to practice.
“That was Xaden Riorson’s dragon, Lydia.” Dain snarls. “And you bowed to it, like it she was some all-powerful being. Do you know how that makes the Aetos family look? Did that even cross your mind?”
I turn to sit at the edge of my bed, my hand gripping the end so tightly my knuckles turn white. “You’re joking, right?” Anger begins to bubble; my face begins to heat up and I can feel the tears beginning to build. “A dragon approached me. In most cultures, bowing between two parties is a sign of respect. I was thinking of how I could come out of that situation alive.” Dain’s lips formed into a tight line shifting in his seat. “I thought about my life. I wasn’t thinking about who that dragon belonged to, how embarrassing it was for you. I sure as fuck did not give a shit about our family reputation.” I rise noting that I am still from my clothes from the parapet. Finally taking in my surroundings I notice the rows of beds someone brought me to the female wing. “What time is it?”
“We have about 2 hours before formation.” Dain says rising from his own scene. “I need you to lay low. Please for the love of the gods, please lay low. Don’t attract any unwanted attention, do not bring up the dancing thing.” He grips my arm, his fingers digging into my skin. “This is the most important one so pay attention. Stay away from Xaden Riorson.”
I snort and yank my arm back, “I have no interest in being near the one person in this place who would probably want to see our heads on a spike, thanks to the action of our father.” Pushing him out of my way I grab my bag that is lying beside my bed. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to get ready for the day.”
I left the female wing before he could get another word in. I manage to find the showers on my own and wash off the grime that I have been sleeping in. Letting the water cascade down my skin, I rub my face my mind wandering from that interaction with the blue daggertail. To the nightmare I woke up from. Lian. My dance partner, my lover, my best friend. I twist the ring on my finger absentmindedly, it’s been months since I last had a dream about him. Tears well up in my eyes.
The rays of the sun warmed my skin as I began my stretches, Lian lying on the blanket in front of me. The sun is hitting his tan skin, his eyes closed, a smile on his face. As though he didn’t have any care in the world, except to be here with me. Finishing my stretches I rise to my feet and lift my teeth on my tippy toes. My bare feet sink into the plush blades of grass. I raise my leg above my head.
I begin to hum, and the tune shifts me from the prairie we are having a picnic at and morphs to the theater. My hums soon are replaced by the sweet sounds of the orchestra. I move my leg down pointed behind me. My movements fluid as my feet carries me through the stage. Leaps precise arms tight, various faces in the crowd, that I don’t pay close attention to. I begin my pirouette. I’m to do five spins for this routine, the most I have done. Putting myself in position I smile out to the crown and stumble, brown hair the same as my own, a smile that Dain inherited are looking back at me. It’s not that my mother is in the crowd that causes my movements to falter. Her eyes, seeming to glow in the dim lights of the theater and their color, gone were the warmth and comfort of her blue eyes. Her gaze now cold, hard and the vilest shade of red.
Hands gripped my waist pulling me tightly, fingers beginning to dance at my size as laughter begins to bubble up my chest.
“Lian!” I squeal as he spins me around, always knowing exactly when I need to be pulled from my thoughts. “Put me down! I’m rehearsing!”
He presses his lips to my ear, “You’re always rehearsing, Dove. We’re outside let’s enjoy our picnic.”
“I don’t like dealing with the wrath of Seraphina.” I murmur as I lean into his touch.
“I have a gift for though. Don’t you want to know what it is?” I whip around to face him, and he chuckles at my wide-eyed expression.
“My Love, if you want my attention, start with gifts.” He leads me back to the blanket and sits me down. “I have something for you too.”
“Me first,” he tucks what he has behind his back. Lian's curly brown hair becoming wild with the soft summer breeze rolling through. “Close your eyes, Dove, and hold out your right hand.”
I quirk a brow but obey, closing my eyes I stick out my right hand. It feels like hours have gone by though it has only been a minute at most before his soft hand holds mine. The cool bite of metal sliding down my finger until it reaches my knuckle. I open my eyes and gasp. The engraving work on the ring is beautiful, the swirling design reminding me of shadows and in the center where the shadows should my initials reside there. LD.
I look up at my partner and smile, “Lian D- He silences me with a kiss one filled with so much passion it makes me dizzy.
He pulls away, “Do you like it?” He murmurs over my mouth.
“No.” His face falls before I kiss his nose, “I love it.” Lian’s grin takes my breath away. “My turn.” I press a hand to his chest, “Sit back, and close your eyes.” Lian sat back on his heels and closed his eyes. I dig through my bag until my fingers grip the chain, pulling it out revealing the oval pendant with my name in the center. I crawl to him and gently place the chain over his head and place the necklace down gently around his neck.
Lian opens his eyes, and looks down to the pendant. His thumb grazes over the engraving of my name as though he was caressing me. My body responds to the sight of it as if his thumb was grazing me, tenderly. He looks up at me with a smile, “Now you’ll be near my heart forever.” Lian grabs my waist and pulls me on his lap. “Happy Anniversary, Dove.”
I press my forehead to his. “Happy Anniversary, Lian.”
“Lydia?” Violet’s voice rings through the bathing chambers.
“I’m in here,” I call out, her footsteps echoing through the chamber.
“Are you okay? I just ran into Dain.” Her voice is hesitant, she knows my feelings for my brother as well as I know about hers. “He seemed upset.”
“He can get in line.” Shutting off the water and grabbing my towel to dry off. “I don’t need a lecture about how he is a good person. I’m not interested in that.”
“I know what today is.” My hands still, “I’m not here to talk about Dain. He’s being an ass.” I wrap the towel around my body and step out. Violet’s blue eyes with flickers of amber were warm. “I’m sorry.” She engulfs me into a hug as I swallow the tears threatening to fall. “He would be so proud of you, Lydia.”
Today would have been our two-year anniversary. I should be at the dance studio with him rehearsing. Yet here I am in Basgiath and Lian…is gone.
Lian’s absence has hurt me in more ways than one. After our one-year anniversary he vanished. At least when my mother abandoned me, she had the decency to leave me a note. Late nights at the lake, stolen kisses backstage, his arms wrapped around me so tight the colonel’s wrath couldn’t find me there. I long for those moments once more, but clearly, he didn’t. His words the day we exchanged gifts ring in my head, “I’ll get you out, Lydia, you’ll never have to deal with your father. I’m going to set you free.”
He didn’t keep his promise. He left me behind without so much as a second glance. Freedom. My mom longed for it, Lian promised it.  I’m growing to detest the idea of freedom if it means the people I care about most fucking abandon me for it, leaving me to a cruel fate.
Confined. Controlled. Caged.
What good is freedom if it means stepping on the backs of the people one loves just to get there?
My feeling of sadness contorts to anger as I slowly pull away from Violet, she has never once abandoned me and is confined in this brick cage as I am. Violet doesn’t deserve my anger, though the sympathy in her eyes told me I could, and she would let me. I refuse to be my father or my brother and take my out-of-control feelings out on people who do not deserve it. Straightening my spine I give Violet’s hand a gentle squeeze. “Hard to be proud of someone, you actively abandoned with no word as to why you left.” I release her hand and swallow once more forcing the lump lodged in my throat back down to the pit of my stomach where it belongs. Where all my unwanted feelings belong.  “I’m going to get dressed and we can head to formation.
Violet nods, her eyes still glittering with concern. I quickly moved to change into the leathers that were near my bed this morning. Wrapping my hair in a tight bun I stick the two hair pins in. I link my arms with hers and give her a smile, a performative one, but a smile all the same.
Formation was a blur even as I am currently looking for a seat during breakfast, thinking back I can’t quite remember anything other than the list of names of those that did not make it yesterday, and everyone’s eyes on me. Kind of like they are now, though I have never been a stranger to eyes upon me, I wish it was for my ability to dance and not because I survived an interaction with Xaden Riorson’s dragon. And arm drapes around my shoulder, “Welcome back to the land of the living.” Ridoc’s voice is a welcome joy from the ominous stares burning holes in my skin. “Come, we’ve already scooped up Sorrengail.” Before I can counter, he is brining me to the table with Rhiannon, Violet, and a man who’s skinny, sandy curls lay atop his head.
Sitting at the open seat next to him the handsome man, he held out his hand, “Sawyer Henrick.” There is a twinkle in his green eyes, his freckles a stark contrast with his pale skin.
I grip his hand and give him a warm smile, “Lydia Aetos.”
Sawyer winks, “You know, you’re a lot prettier to look at than your brother.”
Heat creeps up my skin, as I release his hand. “Thanks, I guess.” I take a sip of my drink, “He is an eye sore.” Sawyer spits out his drink all over Ridoc as he chuckles, while the latter groans.
“How are you feeling, Lydia?” Rhiannon changes the subject as Ridoc continues his grumbling.
I think back to Xaden’s onyx eyes boring into my skull, or the heat from the Blue Daggertails nostril’s grazing against my neck as if a gust of warm summer’s wind was caressing me. Her yellow eyes staring at me, assessing me, for what? I’m not sure and I hope I wouldn’t find out considering who her rider is. The fear surges back up but a hand gripping my own brings me to the present. Soft, tiny, Violet, I look over to the youngest Sorrengail, “I’m alright. Nothing a few days rest couldn’t solve.”
“So, that interaction with that dragon…”Ridoc pulls my attention to him, “What was that all about?”
I shrug, beginning to devour my meal, not caring how the food tasted as I discover how hungry I am, “I truly wish I knew. I have never met a dragon before her.”
The table falls silent in contemplation. I shift in my seat and feel the familiar prick in the back of my neck. Glancing up Onyx eyes look at me in cold assessment as he eats his food, his stare never breaking from my own. I give my performance grin, the one that makes the audience fall in love with me the moment I step on the stage. Slowly raising my hand, I lift my middle finger to him.  His eyes lower and he tilts his head ever slightly ignoring the person who is chatting away in front of him. I give him a playful wink and break eye contact though I can feel his eyes on me.
“Well, should we call you the Queen of the Dragons?” Ridoc quips as the table chuckles with him and I hunch my shoulders slightly, embarrassment trickling through my body. “I mean I have never heard of a dragon that has bowed to a human in that way before. It must mean she’s destined to rule them all.” Ridoc smiles at me as I ball up my napkin to throw at him.
“Absolutely not, I would much rather you all call me twinkle toes than that.” I sip my water as the entire table, Violet included, give each other playful looks.
Collectively and in the highest decibel above screaming yell, “Twinkle Toes!” Before erupting in laughter and I can’t help but join in. I forgotten what it felt like to be surrounded by people that I connect with so well and enjoy their company. Sitting with them wiping my tears from laughter that causes my stomach to ache is a welcome reprieve from the dark corners of my mind where I usually reside.
“Mind if we join?” A man’s voice pulls the group from our bubble and back into reality. I lift my gaze and it feels as though ice has been poured over my head. The man’s eyes the same shade of brown as his, his hair like the curls I ran my fingers through countless times, lips I’ve kissed on numerous occasions. His face has the same shape as Lian’s, they could have been twins. My gaze shifts lower to the relic that peaks through his leathers and that’s where the similarities end, and the sound of my heart shattering thunder in my ears.
“Not at all We have space,” Ridoc scoots down, Lian’s look-a-like allows his handsome friend that had a matching tattoo along, with blonde hair and blue eyes, to sit closer to Ridoc and he sits in front of me. I swallow down my surge of emotions tears threatening to fall as the man smiles at me.
Ridoc takes over with the introductions, saving himself for last. “And who might you two be.”
The blonde-haired male eyes locks on Violets, as he smiles and I notice that her cheeks are red as he holds out his hand to her, “Liam Mairi.” Violet shakes his hand and averts her gaze. Sliding his hand from hers his fingers lingering slightly from her fingertips. Clasping the man’s, in front of me, shoulder, “This right here is Bodhi Durran, a second year.”
Metal clashes as my utensils falls on the plate, “I’m so sorry.” I rise to my feet acutely aware eyes are on me, “I just realize I need to do some things before class starts. Please excuse me.” I smile at Bohdi vision beginning to blur as tears rise, “It was lovely to meet you.” I turn and briskly walk away before anyone can call me back. Running down the hall and into the female wing of the dorms I reach my cot and sob in my pillow. Memories of Lian I have since buried deep rising to the surface:
“Lydia Aetos. My muse.” Lian smiles as my hips grind against his, “My dove.” His tanned hands slide my dress up my thighs they slowly reach my chest palming my cleavage resulting in a moan from me. “Who sings such pretty songs in pleasure.” He sits up and I adjust accordingly as I ride him.
“I love you.” I whisper, my eyes lidded, “I love you Lian Durran.” My fingers slide through his dark curls as his lips find mine and claim me.
A hand clamps over my mouth as I’m hoisted from my cot. My back presses against a hard back a dagger at my neck as hands grip my legs to prevent me from kicking. “Shh, Twinkle Toes. We’re going to take good care of you! I scream resulting in the hand clamping tighter around my mouth.
I lash around as Jack Barlow and his cronies begin to carry me down the empty corridor. “Jack,” the one struggling to keep my feet together groans, “Can’t we at least have some fun with her before we get rid of her?” My body stills at the implication. I know I’m in danger, but fear keeps me frozen in place.
Help
Help
Help
I am incapable of calling out to help as the duo pulls me into the shadows. They pin me to the wall, and I beg my body to move, will it to do anything besides tremble, I think of Dain, and the dream of a better relationship with my brother, of Violet whose kindness has brought me from the brink of insanity by her friendship. I think of Rhiannon, Ridoc, Sawyer, Liam and even Bodhi, friendships I’ll never get to see grow because I know one thing is certain.
I am going to die today.
Jack presses the knife to my skin keeping my head in place with his hand. “I’m going to make sure you feel the humiliation I felt on the parapet that day.” He whispers in my ear as he grazes the knife across my neck, hard enough to break skin, though not hard enough to kill. As if he was a predator toying with his food, he lowered the cold steel down to my chest where the leathers we received protected me from taking any reputable damage. “You are such a pretty little thing.” Bile rose in the back of my throat at his words. “You’ll be even prettier drenched in your blood.
“But you sai-
“Even I wouldn’t stoop that low.” And with a quick movement of his hand Jack slit the other cadet’s throat. I screamed his palm muffling the sound. His cold blue eyes meet mine, “Now where were we?”
“What do we have here?” A low voice causes Jack to turn, yanking me to his front. Hazel eyes meet mine and I take a moment to take in the person in front of me. His dark black hair with short curls allows the sharp angles of his face to stand out. His high cheekbones and perfectly set nose this man is handsome and right now his mouth is set in a firm line, “It’s not nice to hand a pretty lady in such a way.”
“I’m handling a pest problem.” Jack simply states.
The man smiles and its devastatingly beautiful. “Allow me to correct myself.” His large, calloused hand wraps around my forearm and maneuvers me out of Jack’s grasp with ease. All the while gripping the collar of Jack’s jacket, “You will not touch her or come near her ever again. “Do you understand?” Jack nods a snarl curling at his lips as the man releases him. “Good not run along, you’ll be late for battle brief.” Jack makes sure to level me with a glare as he walks down the corridor. The mystery man turns towards me and smiles, his eyes scanning me, locking in my neck where the warmth of my blood clings to my skin. “You’re hurt.”
“A simple scratch, it will be gone in the morning.” I look to the corpse lying behind him and he glances to where I’m staring, “Better than being that guy at the moment.” The man snorts as his gaze lands on me once more. He nods as though the answer is good enough for him as I reach out my hand, “I’m Lydia.”
His eyes light up in recognition, “Aetos right?” I sheepishly nod my head as he takes my hand and places a soft kiss on my knuckles, “A pleasure. You are much nicer to look at than your brother.” He releases my hand and I laugh.
“I see my brother has made quite the name for himself.” I quip as I fidget as silence fell between the two of us.
“Come on Cadet, we will be late for battle brief.” The man extends his arm for me to loop through and as my hand pressed into his muscled arm, he led me down the hall.
I look back to the body on the ground, “Um shouldn’t we take care of him?”
Garrick chuckles, “Don’t fret, Pretty girl, someone will dispose of him and his things. “Death is pretty commonplace here.” I feel his eyes are on me. I glance back in his direction to see a playful smirk on his face, “I like your eyes. How one is brown, and one is blue. Its about as unique as having a dragon bow to you.” He quirks a brow as I groan looking up at the ornate ceiling above. “Word travels fast here.”
“So much for going through these three years undetected I guess.” He hums in agreement, and I take a moment to study him as we go down the stairs. “So does the pretty boy have a name?”
The man winks at me, “He does.”
“Well, I can’t call you my hero forever,” I smile, the sadness of a former love fluttering away, as I shamelessly flirt with the man in front of me.
He whistles, “You’re good, Aetos.” He releases my arm only playfully nudges me. “My name is Garrick. Feel free to keep calling me your hero though. I won’t mind.”
I laugh, “You’re a shameless flirt.” I counter as we approach a classroom, students from every year begin filing in.
Onyx eyes meet mine, his nostrils flare slightly at the sight of me with Garrick but his lips remain in a tight line as a warmth breath grazes my ear, “Takes one to know one, Pretty Girl.”  I whip my head towards him as he stands to his full height and walks into the room without so much as a goodbye. Though he is quick to wrap what I now see as a tattooed arm around Xaden causing the Wingleader to break eye contact with me.
“Hey, are you okay? You ran off pretty quickly at breakfast.” Ridoc’s voice rings out as I find him with the others at the entryway.
“I’m fine, just needed to catch up on work.” Ridoc nodded as we all entered the large classroom with chairs that rose all the way up to the rafters. Every student in Basgiath could be sat here. The ornate look of the room takes my breath away as it reminds me of the theater I once used to frequent with my mother.
“Everyone, take your seats and we will begin.” A woman projects her voice from where she stands, at what can only be described as a stage. I’m once again reminded of the fact that I am no longer a dancer. This is not a theater. I am to become a rider. This is Battle Brief.
Tumblr media
Waking up early, I quickly change into my leotard and tights that I sneak past my father’s nose. The last week has been a challenge to say the least. I have been struggling to gain my footing, Dain’s constant quips and critiques, the intense class schedule. Finding reasons to get up and keep moving has been a challenging one for me. Familiar dark thoughts overriding my brain my father’s words ringing in my ears. Somedays I am able to quiet them other time they were yelled in high decibels causing me to curl into a ball in my cot.
Worthless. Pathetic. Disgrace of a child.
Wrapping my pointe shoes around my ankles tying them securely I begin to tiptoe toward the Gym where there are full length mirrors.
Grateful that no one is around, I begin my stretches, my feet pointed outward, I lower my body. I focus on my breathing as I plie I reach one arm out in front of me the other above me and I sink lower once more.
Inhale
Hold 2, 3, 4
Exhale
I rise on my exhale and do this a few more times trying to keep my breathing even and the dark thoughts at bay. To keep from those feelings consuming me entirely as they have in previous years. And I begin to do my routine.
“You need to get up, Lydia.” Lian whispers as I turn over and cover the pillow over my head groaning. “Dove.” His fingers graze up my bare spine.
“Go away.” I grumble pulling the covers over me tightly.
Lian continues his tender strokes, “Is it happening again?”  He gently removes the pillow from my head to reveal my tear-stained cheeks. “The dark feelings returning.”
I nod my head, “It feels like my body weighs a ton. I just want to lay in bed.”  Lian proceeds to pull the covers off me and before I can begin to scold him, he kisses the bottom of my spine spine and leaves soft pecks all the way up to the base of my neck.  “Lian.” I warn.
“I’m not going to do anything, not like that anyway.” He chuckles as his firm hands begin to rub the tension from my shoulders. “Seraphina can rehearse with the others today.”
“You should-
“I would never leave you behind, Dove.”  He continues to massage my back and reaches a knot that elicits a groan. “I’m going to set you free, baby. I promise.” A small smile emerges on my face, “There she is.”
My spins become sloppy as memories of Lian bubble up.
I would never leave you behind. But he did.
I am going to set you free. Yet, I’m still in a cage.
I love you, Dove. Then why did he leave?
I lose my footing as I leap, and my ankle rolls before I can fall to the floor calloused hands grip my arms. My body stiffens as I see the rebellion relic, followed by the scent of leather and mint. My eyes gaze up to meet the Gold flecked onyx of Xaden Riorson. “What has you up this early?”
I writhe out of his grasp, “Why do you want to know?”
Xaden quirks his scarred brow, “I’m your Wingleader, Kitten, it’s my job to know why my cadet is not only out of bed but why she is in…whatever it is you’re wearing.”
I look down at my pointe shoes followed by my pink tights and leotard, “I’m a dancer. This is dance attire.”
His eyes graze down my body and a shiver course down my spine at his ogling. “Why are you here?”
“This space is for all cadets, Wingleader.” I begin to continue when he presses a finger to my lips.
“No, no. Why are you here in Basgiath?” His thumb idly swiped my hip the tenderness of the action pulling me from my stupor. As I whack his hand and step out of his grasp. “I mean it is pretty obvious you don’t belong here, Kitten.”
Through gritted teeth, “Well the fuck aware, Riorson. I also recall telling you my name is Lydia.”
He takes a step closer, gripping my chin he forces me to look at him, “Tell me something, Lydia. Why did you bow to Sgaeyl?”
Sgaeyl. That is the name of his dragon. Beautiful. Just like her. “Out of respect.”
“You didn’t have to.” He murmurs getting close enough that I have no choice but to look up at him. “Most people would have ran away.”
“I’m not most people. I prefer keeping my flesh intact not becoming a pile of ash.”  I pull one of the hair pins from my hair pressing it to his chest forcing him to take a step back. “Tell me, Xaden, why did she bow in return?”
He hums in contemplation, and I scowl. He bends down at the waist, so our faces are inches apart from one another. My heartbeat quickens at him being so close to me, warmth pooling in my belly as his beautiful face closes in on mine, our nose near touching. “Now where is the fun in answering that, Kitten.” His face contorts into a look of confusion. “You’re crying.”
I press my hand to my cheek to find tears there. The dark thoughts hit me like a wave crashing over a rock, unlike a rock, I get swept up in the current:
Useless, Pathetic, Annoying. Traitor
Traitor
Traitor
Traitor
I wrap my arms around myself and take a step away from the Wingleader. The warmth his body provided was now gone. “I have to go, if I want to change and make it to formation in time.” I turn acutely aware I am putting my back to him as I scurry off back from the room. Finding a vacant hallway, I slide my back against the cool brick, rubbing my chest. The words are becoming all-consuming, and I allow myself to succumb to the darkness. The words playing in a loop as though it was playing through a faulty record player.
Worthless
Worthless
Worthless
Words are so cruel but have been my constant companion when people I care about were so quick to leave me. Abandon me. Brennan, my mom, Lian, even Dain is guilty of abandoning me. It’s hard to not let the vile words keep me down when the most important people in my life constantly leave me. At some point the words that would pop up as fleeting thought began to take root and seep into my brain as something factual the moment, I found that letter on my bed. The moment I learned that I wasn’t worth fighting for, wasn’t worth defending.
Dain’s betrayal stung the most when he would stop defending me against our father when it came to my dancing and has since tried to snuff out the one good thing in my life with him.
“I highly doubt you’re good enough to make a career out of it. This is a fine hobby sure, but you need to realize that he expects you to train to be a warrior.”
A chunk of my heart deteriorated that day. Dain has never once seen me dance, for him to say that hurt. For him to then reiterate that last week stings more. Nothing has changed and I was hoping that being here away from our father would give us the chance to mend things. The hope now since squandered since I yielded my practice challenge after the first punch. He said I was embarrassing him and making father look like a fool.
Maybe I am a fool. Fool for falling in love with a performer who the moment things became complicated had left without an utterance of goodbye.
Foolish for thinking I could have a career in dance with my father carrying me like a marionette doll. Foolish for thinking him and I would ever have a loving father daughter relationship like I witness Violet have with her father.
Foolish for thinking I’m good enough to fight for, to love, to be cared for.
Foolish
Foolish
Foolish
Stray tears turn into stream of sobs as I tuck my knees to my chest and bury my face in them. I don’t care how loud I’m being, or how emotional I am. I just want the ache in my chest to disappear, for the heaviness of my existence to lift from my shoulders. For someone, anyone, to pull me from the depths of my darkness so that I may be able to breathe easier, to feel less burdensome.
My vision blurs as I allow the thoughts to rip me apart, the sounds of footsteps causing me to lift my head. Finding a tall figure hovering over me as my vison gives way to the tears, I don’t register the hands that lift me from the ground only the comforting smell of Leather and mint before falling asleep allowing the exhaustion of my episode to welcome me with open arms.
Tumblr media
“Lydia!” Violet squeals jolting me awake, I look to see I’m on my cot. The other women filtering through. “You missed formation, I was so worried about you.” Her frail arms wrap around my neck and I’m quick to embrace her back not only because I needed her comfort but also to keep her from falling. “Were you asleep the whole time?”
I shrug, “I honestly am not sure how I got here. I was practicing in the gym before anyone had woken up. Next thing I know I am waking up to you.” She nods and a pang of guilt hits me like a dagger, I know that someone had brought me back here during my meltdown. Violet has enough to worry about on her own, she doesn’t need to be worried about me as well. “Was Dain mad?”
Violet bit her lip and her cheeks became rosy, “He was,” She looked up as though she was trying to pick the best word from a shelf. “Agitated.”
Shit.
“He was angry. I didn’t mean to miss formation. I just didn’t wake up.” I sit up and grab my leathers. Preparing for the fight I will inevitably have with my brother. “I will be surprised if he doesn’t just kill me before the year is over. That way he doesn’t have to worry about me ruining his image.”
“Well, what if I said that I have something that gives you and I an edge.”  I pause and turn to my friend. She holds up a book in her hands the scrawl so familiar.
The Book of Brennan
“How?”
“Mira must have kept it after Brennan died.” Violet shrugs and her eyes shift as if for a moment she was back home, and her brother was still alive. I reach over and grip her shoulder and she physically shake off the memories. She gives me a smile, “We’ll read this after classes. If we are even late to one. I fear Ridoc is going to become lost.”
“Can’t have that. I’ll change quickly and we can go.” She nods with a smile and the vacancy in her eyes dissipating. And I turn to go change, wishing there was something I could do to keep Violet safe from the horrors of this world.
Tumblr media
I’m going to murder Violet.
The brisk cold air of the night still reaching my bones even with my cloak on. I cling the material tighter to my chest as I cross the courtyard hoping I blend in with the dark shadows of the night. I shouldn’t even be the one out here tonight. After reading Brennan’s guide to surviving Basgiath, Violet took it upon herself a few days ago to find out who our first challenge partners were. In turn she knew of a flower that grew in a tree near the lake that would give herself an edge next week. She had asked if she should get enough for two people, but I refused.  I had no intention of fighting anyone next week but that even if I did I would not need it.
Violet didn’t intend to have a flare up before she set off on her little escapade tonight. These past few weeks have taken a toll on her body even though she would never say anything. Dain and I knew she is suffering in silence, stubborn just like her mother. Though tonight she couldn’t even get out of bed. Her silvery blue eyes pleading as she asked if I would go get the flower for her. Even gave me a rough sketch of what I was looking for. Not being able to deny the minx anything I agreed and now out in the abnormally cold evening for summer my knee flares in pain, something that occurs when weather shifts, I sustained an injury during a performance when I first started dancing and now, I’m acutely aware of when we are getting a storm, or when General Sorrengail is having a fit. The abnormal chill causes another shooting pain to my knee, and I grit my teeth swallowing the pain.
The tree comes into focus and my mind drifts back to simpler times.
“Dain! I can’t its too high.” I scream clinging tightly to a branch closing my eyes to avoid looking at the daunting distance from the branch to the ground.
“Lydia, I promise I’ll catch you.” Dain voice calls out. “I promise I won’t let you fall.”
I peak an eye open and his arms only slightly bigger than mine are wide open ready to cling onto me should I decide to jump down. “I’m scared.” I whisper.
“I’m your brother, my job is to protect you. I just need you to trust me. Can you do that?” I nod my head and take a steadying breath as I ease my grip on the branch. Shifting in a seated position the skirt of my pale pink dress shifting with me. “That’s it. Now jump!”
I close my eyes and take that leap a shrill scream erupting from my throat as the air whirled around my ears. Arms gripped my shoulders and knees.  “See,” Dains voice; a soothing balm over my fears, “You are safe. So long as I breathe, I will always keep you safe, Lydia. I promise.” I latch my arms around his neck and squeeze him tight.
“I love you, Dain.”
Another cold breeze kisses my cheeks as I’m brought to the present, where it’s not warm and sunny, but warm with the looming threat of rain above. Where my brother and I are not close and may as well be strangers. The only person who would protect me from the monsters lurking in the shadows being myself. I shake the looming thoughts reminding myself that I am here for a task.
I lighten my steps to keep them quiet and not draw attention to myself. To further ease my worries of being caught as I loom closer to the tree, I imagine that I’m not a cadet out past curfew in a war college I want nothing to do with, but instead a wraith dancing across the stage, undetected from the royal guards. The orchestra’s melodies were one of short beats that matched with footsteps, a dark undertone to build the tension for the audience, as though I may be caught.  My movements highlight my ability to flip and contort my body, in place of my normal languid long movements.
My feet move on their own accord as I dance with a face covering to conceal my identity, for if the guards realized there was an assassin on their grounds, they would likely kill me. In swift movements, as though I’m galloping toward the tower, where my sworn enemy waits for me at the top. I stretch my body as if I was on my tiptoes I would be able to reach the man who was destined to be my enemy. Who became my lover instead. Lovers destined to be apart, who against the odds found moments to be together. The music roars in my ears as the short beats of the music shift to one of longing and passion.
I place my foot in the slot made for my dance shoes and begin my accent my lover waiting for me at the top of the tower. The music rises in tandem with my ascent and dramatically I falter on a step acting as though I lost my footing. The music in tandem with the music building to a climactic moment, the audience gasping thinking I will fall. As gracefully as slid, I pushed my body back against the set piece and continued my ascension.
My forehead collides with a tree trunk, and I yelp in surprise. Reality rearing its hideous form from my beautiful daydream to reveal I am halfway up the tree. How I didn’t hit any other branches takes me by surprise, but I continue, keeping my eyes peeled for the flower Violet needs.
Spotting the delicate looking but also dangerous plant I settle myself on a large branch that supports my weight and I gather a few of the buds and place it in the vile that the youngest Sorrengail sibling provided for me. Once I gather enough for Violet to use, I place the vile in my pocket and set to lower myself from the tree where I hear voices. Lying on my stomach keeping myself flushed against the tree branch as three cloaked figures come into view.
The three lower their cloaks and my heart stops. The pink hair of the marked one that destroyed Violets shoulder at our practice round of challenges. Garrick’s curls appeared from the cloak along with his annoyingly handsome smirk. Finally, Xaden Riorson, and in the moonlight, I can’t deny that his beauty whooshes the breath out of me. I especially try to keep the fact that his body close to mine when I ran into him at the gym plays across my mind periodically and heat pools in my stomach at the though of his hands on me and his lips…
The shuffling of more feet pulls me from stupor as more marked ones approach, I know because most have opted to not wear any coverings and let reveal their relics with pride. I scrunch my brows; this meeting is against the codex. The marked ones are not supposed to congregate in groups larger than three. A ridiculous rule, as these children are paying for the crimes of their parents but regardless a rule they are actively breaking. I pray to whatever gods can hear to keep me hidden. Xaden only needs to look up to see I’m there to expose that I’m listening and because of who I’m related to; he has grounds to kill me for simply being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
I am going to murder Violet.
Tumblr media
As the group of Marked one’s settle is when Xaden’s voice booms in the courtyard. “Alright, let’s get started.”
A person in the back of the group perks up, “I am having a difficult time with History.”
Imogen snorts, “Because of the dates, or because of the lies?” I roll my eyes at her, I may agree that I don’t believe what they are teaching is accurate especially after talking to Lian last year but to stupidly question out loud in the open where anyone could hear is foolish and the quickest to get yourself executed for treason.
“Both.” The young man mutters. Movement on my leg causes me to jolt and I clamp a hand over my mouth to prevent me from shrieking as I look at my leg only to find my leg hidden in the shadows, and it almost feels like the shadows are caressing my leg as if in comfort. Feeling my heartrate regulate I lay back down in my position and try to remain quiet as Garrick answers the young boy.
As the hour ticks by I learn that Xaden is helping the marked ones get through their time here. They like me didn’t ask to be here but must make the best of the dangerous situation their parents unknowingly put them in. My eyes constantly find Xaden’s figure through this meeting and how he looks almost fatherly, the way he’s standing, and the words of comfort and advice causes my chest to tighten. Xaden is more of a loving father to these people than my father ever was to me. Once again, I felt movement against my leg only to find darkness and my brows knit in confusion.
“What of Lydia Aetos and Violet Sorrengail?”  A girl in front quips up in front and my blood runs cold.
“What of them?” Garrick questions back in a tone that can only be described as a warning as he crosses his arms.
“Their parents are the reason we’re here against our will. When do we get to punish them for their crimes? It’s clear we can’t touch Dain, but surely, we can take out the twinkle toed princess?”
“Lydia Aetos and Violet Sorrengail, are mine to handle.” Xaden says with cool indifference though his tone edged on being scolding. “I will remind you, Cadet, that Violet and Lydia didn’t ask to be here either. Violet was studying to be a scribe and you’ve all seen Aetos dance. Neither of them wanted to be here. They are trapped in the same position as we are by the exact same people.”
“You plan on sparing them?” The girl retorts her voice bordering on shrieking. “My mom and older sister are dead because of them. I think taking their children evens the score.”
“Fall in line, Cadet. The two girls are not your kill. I said I am going to handle it. Believe me no one has more reason to hate those two than me.” A sinking feeling wraps me into a state of paralysis. The memory of his hands on me shatters like glass, of course he has every reason to hate me for what my father did. Of course he would want to settle the score, blinded simply by the fact that he’s attractive, I forgot how lethal he is.
The silence permeates over the courtyard, “If you don’t have any other questions then we’re done here.” Imogen commands her nose in the air. “Make sure you go in groups of three to not raise suspicion.”
The group begins to disband in their merry groups of three murmuring about the happenings of this meeting. Imogen and Xaden left together as Garrick waved them off leaning against the tree, watching them go with ease. Silence falls leaving the creatures of the night to sing their beautiful melodies. It almost lulls me to sleep as Garrick’s voice breaks me from the trance, “Have a good night, Pretty Girl, and good luck.” He pauses as my heart thunders out of my chest, and chuckles pushing himself off the trunk of the tree, “You’re gonna’ need it.”  He begins to walk away, and I’m left alone in a state of confusion.
I wait a few minutes to ensure that everyone has left before I make my descent. Landing on the grass with a soft thud, I take a moment to admire the moonlight reflecting the rippling waves, a smile on my face in the beauty of it. Pulling my gaze away from the water I attempt to lift my leg to walk only to find it won’t move. Looking down tendrils of darkness are wrapped snuggly against both ankles keeping my feet planted to ground. I attempt to move again and almost scream out when a low chuckle emerges behind me, whipping around my wavey hair falling over my shoulder as I meet Gold-flecked Onyx eyes and my heart falls into my stomach as Xaden’s figure emerges into the moonlight. A slight tilt of his lips as he crosses his arms.
“You’re not where you’re supposed to be, Kitten.”

Warnings: blood, murder and all... It's extermination, duh. Nothing too bad though.
Tumblr media
It all started years ago...
It was the time of the first extermination, since you opened your shop.
Noone in the pride ring liked it, obviously. And you just happened to live in it, being a sinner - flesh and blood. Your only source of income, your own sex shop, was there too. Very successful one to boot, since in Hell, let's just say, people really like these kind of things. And as weird as it was, your shop was top notch, being the most successful one in the Pride Ring. You swore you wouldn't leave it to destruction under any circumstances, because, well, you needed that money.
And you kept your word. Now you were standing in front of your shop, scanning the area and waiting for inevitable. Your employees, moved by your dedication, have also agreed to defend it. Ah, the deep connection between a demon and their sex shop. Truly touching.
You gripped your weapon tightly and, for who knows which time, looked around with watchful eyes. Turning to your employees, you managed to make a shaky smile appear. Someone in these difficult times must fake confidence, otherwise the fight is already lost - it was one of your beliefs and you had to fulfill it.
- It's okay, girlies. I don' see anythin' strange happening - you said trying to lift up the mood. -Y'know, maybe they were bluffing afterall! M-Maybe nothin's gonna happen! - you added, when you didn't receive any reaction from your employees, trying to convince yourself. Fearful faces of the other demons didn't went unnoticed by you, but you tried to ignore it for your own good.
Well, they were right to be afraid. Afterall, they were employees of a sex shop, not some angel hunters, for fucks sake! And the only person with some fighting knowledge was you, their boss who was almost shitting her pants under pressure and who probably didn't know shit about killing angels. Absolutely excellent position they were in.
Just as you were to say another one of your reassuring quotes again, it began. Everyone absolutely paralyzed, along with you, but you were the first to actually get yourself together.
- It's a-okay guys, there's no need to pani... - you didn't even finish the sentence. Most of your employees were already running for their own lives, screaming mercilessly, leaving everyone else and your shop behind. So much for teamwork.
You groaned and shot your middle finger at them.
- HOPE YOU KNOW, Y'ALL ARE FUCKING FIRED! - you yelled, needing to release your frustration. Hearing that, the others who were contemplating escaping, shrunk into yourself. Good. At least you'll have someone to sacrifice.
Tumblr media
Many things were happening at the same time. You've seen buildings collapsing, demons panicking and fighting for their lives, even some of them kissing passionately on the verge of death. Geez. Dramatic much.
Deep down you were as terrified as them, though. If it wasn't for your money and kinky goods, you wouldn't give a damn and run away too. Unfortunately you needed to stay.
Just as you were focusing your eyes on the angel who was slowly approaching you, a commotion inside of you shop could be heard. Or maybe... Above it. You raised your head and couldn't believe your eyes.
There were thousands of downright identical exorcists descending from the sky, perfectly above your shop. You nearly had a heart attack (though you didn't actually have one) and shot a panicked glance to your co-workers through the window. Did they really have to send the second wave here?! Maybe you didn't think it over afterall.
Not even thinking about it, you moutched: "Run!". Your people gladly did so, screaming and shierking, causing even more commotion and the blood-thirsty angels to pay attention to them. You fought the urge to facepalm.
Great. Now it was happening.
The exterminators mercilessly murdered your employees one by one, while you were watching. Their sick and twisted faces (or maybe they were masks? you didn't really know) seemed even more happy than before. If you haven't seen that they descended from the sky with your own eyes, you would've thought they were demons.
You would be traumatised if not the fact that you've seen worse things. It's hell, duh. But nevertheless it wasn't a nice thing to witness and you definitely must act.
That's why you began to get your ass out of here. You ran like your afterlife depended on it (because it did).
While you were doing so, you heard something collapsing. Looking back, you saw your shop completely destroyed, with one of your employees in their huge ass demon form.
It was touching to see they were trying to defend the shop. But it was now completely destroyed, so...
- Goddamnit! I'm taking this outta your pay! - you said irritated.
You wanted to swear more, but suddenly a familiar voice could be heard.
- Boss! Here! - your best employee yelled, seemingly inviting you to their hiding spot. You let out a quiet cry of joy. Finally someone who is useful in this shithole. You started walking over there, but then in a blink of an eye...
From your cheerful employee's smile began spilling black blood.
You couldn't believe your eyes. There wasn't an angel here just a minute ago. And now she was standing before your dead co-worker, stained by their blood.
- They were a hellborn, you bitch! - you cried out, letting your frustration spill.
The exorcist looked at her clothing, just now noticing the mistake.
Something just snapped inside of you then. She wasn't even paying attention to people she killed. It wasn't an angel, it was a monster! With furious scream and swing of your weapon you ran towards the enemy.
But just as you hit her with it, the weapon broke against her head. You began to retreat with fear, but you were interrupted by the exorcist:
- There is no point in trying, sinner. You can't harm me - you could almost hear the feeling of superiority in her voice.
Something about the way she said it rubbed you the wrong way. You were now overflowing with the desire to fight.
- Oh yeah?! I won't believe you, until I... - you grabbed a spear, that was left in a dead body behind you - ...tRY!
You swung the weapon and to your surprise, this time, the exorcist dodged, almost getting hit.
Oh, so that's how things are...
Now it was your turn to smile triumphally.
- Hm? What was it 'bout being invincible? - you laughed and put a hand on your hip, swinging the spear on your shoulder.
The exterminator seemed furious, smile disappearing from her mask.
- You little BITCH! - she yelled, now preparing to attack you too.
But to her dismay you dodged skillfully and began a new set of attacks. You were fighting for a while, there was no end to this heated moment in sight. She even managed to injure you slightly, but fortunely you dodged just in time. Eventually, though, you managed to knock her over. The training you went on in your previous life was finally paying off.
You climbed on top of her, holding her wrists up and swinged the spear again, preparing to kill her, but... You aimed past her head.
- Oh, yeah! How could I forget. Let's see what disgusting face lies behind your little mask! - you said, wanting to enjoy the victory.
The exorcist looked even more furious than before, trying to move her head away from you. But she failed and you took it off slowly.
Oh.
Oh.
Her golden irises illuminated in the low light and short, white hair was messy from fighting beforehand. She looked furious, her eyes were narrow and on her pale skin there was a droplet of your own, red blood, that was spilling out of your injured hand. Some of the blood even managed to get into her (very kissable) lips. She spat it out at your face in anger.
You didn't even notice her saliva mixed with your own blood, which was flowing down your face, and just stared at her wide-eyed (possibly blushing).
- Happy? - her voice brought you to reality. It seemed even more attractive now that you have seen her face.
In a moment of inattention, you forgot that you weren't holding her wrists now.
Smirking, the woman took advantage of it and punched you in the face. Hard.
- OW! FOR FUCK'S SAKE! - you screamed and staggered, creating exorcist the opportunity to break free. And that's exactly what happened.
She kicked you down and then, as you were laying on the ground, then rose in the air, preparing to escape.
You, completely beaten up, just raised your head at her and yelled:
- Wait! What's your name?!
The angel just stopped in the air and looked back at you, with her pale face.
- Why the hell should I tell you? You disgust me - she deadpanned.
You thought for a moment.
- I-I, um, I know Lucifer! - You bluffed, desperate - I'll tell him you killed a Hellborn! Yeah! You fucked up! - That was a lie made up on spot, completely unbelievable. You even admitted it to yourself, prepared to fail.
The exorcist turned around and just as you thought she'll fly away, she spoke:
- It's Lute. My name is Lute.
What a nice name...
Wait! No! Disgusting! Very disgusting! What a horrible name!
- My name's [name]. Better remember it, you shithead! - you got up, staggering - From now on, you're my worst enemy! - you didn't even realize how silly that sounded then.
- Sure. Whatever you say, sinner. - She snorted, looking at you from above. The slight light reflecting off her halo added even more charm to her face. You couldn't help, but notice her long, beautiful eyelashes.
She was a horrible person. Really, she was. This "Lute", as she was claiming to be called, probably killed thousands of souls, before she killed your employee.
But you just couldn't help to wonder...
Why hadn't you killed her?

cw/ fem! Reader, horrible attempt at writing British people, including multiple desi cultures bc my girlies need all the representation we can get (it’s slim pickings out here) all fluff, some cultural struggles, but everything is resolved, mentions of insecurities
(LONG POST- headcanons and a drabble)
I'm goth and I had a literary awakening when Hobie showed up
Tumblr media
There are literally only two ways I see the two of you meeting
The first involves you being a friend/relative of Pavitir’s, who is exceptionally happy his two homies are getting along
In this situation, Hobie would know a little more about you from the get go, and you most likely would know about him (Pav thinks he’s so cool, he’ll talk about his friends to anyone who’ll listen)
Another; in my opinion, funnier, way for the two of you to meet is him accidentally crashing a desi wedding when he’s on Spidey business
You would be mildly peeved with him for disturbing the wedding, but his spunk and generally opinionated personality make you fall for him
Either way, congratulations! You have the world’s loveliest punk boyfriend
As a boyfriend, Hobie loves helping out in any activity you need help with
He’s the type of boy who tries his absolute hardest to be there for any event that is important to you
No matter if its a massive grad party or a late night pizza run, Hobie is there and having the time of his life
Now, moving onto the cultural aspect, Hobie adores learning about other cultures
Your family is weary of him at first, because of the way he dresses primarily
He manages to find a place in their hearts after they see the way he treats you (with respect and dignity!!!!)
Also the fact that he eats whatever your mom makes, entire plate, man will lick it clean
(I mean, have you seen how much British people love takeaway?)
“Is your mum home yet?” “She’s making something good I bet, she always is.”
He can HANDLE spice, and he’s good with kids (his interaction with Mayday proved that to me)
Your parents may end up, in a shocking event, liking him!
Hobie is your biggest hype man whenever you wear cultural clothes, especially if they’re a little on the edgy side, dark colors and all that
Lehengas, shalwar kameez, sarees, etc, he loves them all
“You're dressed up, aren’t you?”
He’ll explain it to you in this mysticised ‘stepping on eurocentric beauty standards’ type of way, but you know deep down he just thinks you're super pretty
He’s obsessed with your features, no matter what you look like, he thinks you have the most perfect face in the world
If you ever make Hobie Desi food, he’ll be in love with you forever
He loves pani puri, especially if the pani is a lil spicier
His love language is acts of service, and you making him something to eat is like, you are nourishing him?? With bomb Desi food?? he’s is seeing heaven rn
He most DEF asks Pav (who then asks Gayatri) for advice on how to impress you
This leads to him, hanging onto your windowsill, with a Mendhi tube in his hand, and a calm smile on his face
As Hobie slid off his mask, his gorgeous hair fell to the sides of his sharp face. Placing the spiky mask on your side table, he sauntered towards your bed, abruptly sitting down and motioning for you to follow him.
You sighed, and smiled as you took your spot in front of him. He was alway so considerate, taking your interests into mind whenever he swung by.
“You know, I’m not a pro at this or anything.”
He grinned, almost wolfishly, and placed the small sharp tipped tube into your lap.
“I could care less, do anything on my hands.”
You gently took one of his hands into both of yours, spreading it out to see the flesh of his palm, his nails were painted red this week, courtesy of you, of course.
His long bony hand flexed as you gently took off each of his silverish rings, one by one.
You were completely focused on this simple act, treating him with a gentleness only you could offer him, a complete contrast from his usual existence.
“I don’t have a lot of time today, my cousin’s getting married, we have to go to some pre wedding events.”
Hobie perked up in interest, sliding his free hand to smooth out your gingham sheets.
“And what do you plan to wear?”
His mind flashed through all the traditional clothes he’s seen you in, each more ornate and beautiful than the last.
“The lehenga most likely, the peach-ish one, with the sparkles.”
You undid the little plastic pin at the top of the Mehendi tube, applying a slight pressure and making a small line on his palm to start out with.
Hobie looked at you closely, remembering the last time he saw that specific lehenga.
“That one’s cute.”
You laughed a little, looking down at your messy drawing.
“I was going for a flower but it sorta looks like a palm tree.”
He looked down at his hand, a messy smudgy, and less than finished flower was on his palm.
“Maybe, a couple more petals on the top, yeah?”
You squeezed the Mendhi tube again, carefully drawing three extra petals on the top.
“There! I think that's good.”
Hobie looked down at his palm and kept a laugh back, poorly albeit.
The flower wasn’t necessarily bad, just a little wonky.
“It's absolutely beautiful.”
You smiled.
“Hold your hand still until it dries, then peel off the crumbly bits, okay?”
Hobie mockingly saluted with his other hand, matching your smile.
“Anything you say.”
You giggled, taking his face in your hands gently, careful to avoid snagging one of his piercings.
“What am I ever gonna do without you?”
His expression turned a little soft, keeping his smile steady.
“Let's hope it never has to come to that.”

✮⋆ TWILIGHT ZONE : satoru gojo ✮ ⋆ ˚。
ˋ⁀➷ in which you get a note pertaining your death sent to you by none other than satoru gojo. chaos ensues.
cw: 2.8k words, strangers to (eventual) lovers

Tumblr media
Death was on your doorstep. Literally.
In your hands, a creased brown envelope clung to an equally tattered piece of paper which had embarked on a journey to land outside of your door. The message was clear. Ominous, even. Written with a fading black ballpoint pen that seemed to have exhausted its ink by the end of its extreme warning.
“BY THE EIGHTH OF FEBRUARY. YOU WILL DIE IF YOU DO NOT HEED MY WARNING. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU EITHER  A) FIND A NEW JOB OR B) LEAVE THE COUNTRY. PLEASE CONTACT THIS NUMBER ASAP - 0XX XXX XXXX”
Surveying your surroundings for any prying eyes, you found no one but a cold draft of air tumbling by you. With a sigh, you retrieved your worn out phone from your pocket and dialled the number. What could possibly go wrong?
RING.
RING.
RING.
“Hello?” you said hesitantly.
“Heyyyy.” A voice, far too chirpy for the gravity of the situation, rang out from your phone. “I’m glad you called, Y/N. I’m Satoru Gojo and I’ll be your makeshift bodyguard for the next 2 weeks.” He paused whilst words failed you. ”Well, I guess I’ll see you soon!”
Over the past couple of days, you had learnt a lot about Satoru Gojo but perhaps the strangest of all was his nonchalance.
An hour or two after your call, your doorbell rang. Standing before you was a man, about six feet tall, with an allure that masked the ominous message (you assumed) he sent. His boyish smile and circular black sunglasses (despite it being the dead of winter) contradicted the gravity of the situation perfectly matched the aura of the voice you heard. He appeared slightly older than you, maybe eighteen or nineteen, as a youthful aura exuded off of him.
“Can I come in?”
Silently, you allowed him in. Satoru took a few glances around your cramped apartment, his mouth opening as if to mention it but deciding to keep it shut.
“So, could you please explain to me what’s going on?” You asked, anxiety laced in your voice.
Seating himself on your worn couch, he began to unravel the unsettling truth. “A curse is after you, like big-time. If they can successfully remove your soul from your body, it’ll be game over for both you, me and the sorcerer world!” He sighed dramatically, motioning a ‘kaboom’ effect with his hands for added effect.  Frankly, eighty percent of his mysterious revelation had not quite registered and you weren’t sure it ever would.
Swiftly, the night began to fall as darkness crept into your apartment. Stumbling over some old book piles, you switched on your lamp allowing a warm yellow light to fill the room. Turning your back to Gojo, you lit up another two candles allowing a lavender scent to creep into your senses. Despite its supposed calming properties, the lavender scent only confused you even more wearing your patience thinner. You blew out the candle light.
Despite your silence, Gojo persisted. “Not that I couldn’t handle it - the curses, I mean - but it’d make it significantly harder if you were dead so we’ve got to work together, alright? Alright!” He concluded, clapping his hands with an unbridled sense of finality. Gojo carried himself in a way that made what he said seem somewhat normal, as if his laid back shoulders and casual slouch into your second hand couch was enough to convince you that curses, or monsters even, existed in the first place.
Twitching, your eyes and head began to hurt; the overload of information from this somewhat cute guy made you feel like you were in some sort of absurdist dream. Laughter began to erupt out of you. Satoru’s face twitched in confusion as he furrowed his eyebrows. Sighing, you began trying to find the right words to say.
“Get out.” was what you landed on. Finally, mustering up the courage to face him.
“What?” His chirpy tone had dwindled and instead, was replaced with full panic. His eyes widened. ”Didn’t you read the letter or hear anything I just said?” Exasperation evident within his tone as he got off the couch and approached you.
“Satoru, look.” You did your best to meet his eyes  but eventually turned towards the door. “I can’t help you. Even if I could and if what you’re saying is real then what am I supposed to do against some soul-snatching curse?”
As if on cue, your lamplight dimmed even more, leaving a low light to fill the room. Fiddling with the papers at your door, which were compiled of all your uni-work and and your part time internship responsibilities, all seemingly useless when your life was doomed to end in a couple of days. A sense of dread washed over you, your headache worsened. Gojo approached you like you were some sort of timid animal about to flee at any moment. His playful aura dissipated leaving a much more serious, grounding one. Pursing your lips together, you stopped fiddling with your work and met his eyes properly for the first time.
Satoru Gojo stood before you, someone who was essentially a stranger but looked at you with such a fire in his eyes that you couldn’t help but believe what he was saying was true. The way the lowlight framed his face and made his features glow with such an intensity was something you couldn’t ignore.
“You don’t have to do anything, honest. Leave it to me. I just need you to accept my help, that’s it.” He said with his hands on his heart. Turning around to face him once more, his blue eyes that contained a particular sense of wonder, locked with yours silently pleading.
Looking away, you opened your door. “Please. Go.”
As he left, he looked at you once more, disappointment etched into every crevice on his face.
The lack of his presence left you with an uneasy feeling of dread. Strangely, he had convinced you he was telling the truth even if he was a little unconventional with his methods of persuasion. Though you wanted to believe what he was saying wasn’t true, as you mindlessly went through your night routine, a constant thought plagued your mind.
Is this it?
Waking up to the frigid stillness of your winter room, you shivered. A draft of wind swept through, tempting you to linger in the warmth of your bed. Reluctantly, you switched on your lamp, allowing light to seep into your room disbanding the darkness entrenched in the crevices of your room. Suddenly, memories of the past 24 hours flooded back into your brain as you did your best to trudge through your extensive morning routine. Doing it as you normally would - brushing your teeth, showering, getting dressed, doing a mandatory morning clean of your apartment.  However, during that last step, you found something that solidified the surreal events of the previous night.
In a state of delusion, you had hoped that everything had been an elaborate dream, one that had simply been a byproduct of your numerous stress-inducing responsibilities. But you were sorely mistaken. Satoru Gojo’s glasses laid there on your couch, snugly wedged in where he was seated last night, evident from the deflated dent in your couch. Gently, you picked them up, surveying the accessory. They were in relatively good condition, seemingly worn a lot due to the slight oxidation around the frames; the lenses without a prescription either as you held them closer to your eyes. Because of your background, you weren’t too versed in designer brands, however seeing a ‘Cartier’ logo etched into the sides of these glasses was enough to send a second set of shivers down your spine. While you hadn’t formulated many theories surrounding Gojo’s mysterious persona, involvement with the mafia was one of your top three contenders, and these glasses (without any sort of case or protection) had bumped that theory up to number one.
Despite the fatigue creeping into your body, you decided to attend your classes with Gojo’s glasses tucked into the safety of your backpack’s front pocket. Even if the impending doom of your life ending loomed around a month away, doesn’t mean your classes (and internship) weren’t still there waiting for you.
As usual, your professors droned on endlessly. prompting you to wonder why you chose this course in the first place. Swiftly, you packed your things to leave, but as you made your exit, you saw something. Fleeting, a shadow outside the glass of your school’s hallway caught your eye, accompanied by a draft of wind that tried to shuffle past you. Blinking, you tried to discern if anything was there only to be met with a headache that intensified with each attempt. Clutching your backpack close, you ignored the discomfort. Making it towards your study room - a safe haven - for you to be able to catch up with the work you’d missed.
Upon entering, a familiar white haired man slouched over the desk, seemingly lost in the most peaceful of slumbers. Before you could say anything, he sprang to life, stretching with exaggerated movements and delivered with a comically large yawn. Unsure of what to do, you waited for him to speak.
“Hey.” He said with an annoying sense of normalcy, a playful aura radiating from his face, now adorned with a new pair of Cartier glasses. He peered up at you, prompting your response.
“Are you, like the mafia or something?” You questioned, narrowing your eyes at him. “Because that would explain why you’re here now.”
He chuckled, his laughter surprisingly pleasant. Though, it was unsurprising that someone like him was also blessed with a nice laugh too. You scoff. “What’s so funny about that?” you retorted, growing annoyed at his mirth whilst your life (supposedly) hung in the balance.
“Nothing,” he calmed down, wiping an imaginary tear away. You rolled your eyes as he quietened down a bit, positioning his glasses through his hair so he could look at you clearly. Your face began to grow hot with his eyes staring right at you. He continues. “Just my friend Shoko, has this running bit about me being a mafia boss. You remind me of her a bit.” Silently, you prayed for anyone who could tolerate someone as erratic as Gojo.
“I’m not part of the mafia, however curses and all of that jazz are the real deal and I do really need your help.” Satoru said with the same fervent sincerity as the night before. You looked away, unpacking your bag with the contents of this term’s work cluttering the table. A variety of thoughts ran through your head. Convinced that this mysterious man had been telling the truth, you felt another chilling sensation, unsure if it stemmed from the monsters he spoke of or the stress of your impending demise.
Quietly, you retrieved Gojo’s glasses from your front pocket and slid them across to him. “You should really put these in a case or something.” His raised eyebrow met with your growing anxiety. The prospect of leaving everything behind to deal with something new was albeit - terrifying, but if you did nothing, you wouldn’t be able to feel anything at all.
“But, won’t we-”
Not a second later, the wall caved in. Debris and smoke filling the room, rapidly. Gojo grabbed your hand, pulling you out of the now-destroyed room, leaving all your assignments crushed underneath the weight of falling concrete. A single glance back revealed other students fleeing the scene. With screams echoing down the hall, a familiar draft of wind swirled down the corridor after you.
“WHAT’S GOING ON?” you yelled, your legs burning as you were being dragged at an (inhumanely) high speed. Gojo doing his best to manoeuvre his way through the bustling students, who were bewildered at your rapid pace.
“They’re here.” Out of breath, all retorts had escaped your mind, fight or flight in full swing. With every corridor you left behind, a new chorus of cries echo in your wake. “I could sense him--the curse–but I couldn’t see him. He’s good!" He rattled on but you were certain it was mostly for himself.  Exhilaration clearly pulsing through his veins whilst anxiety was beginning to freeze yours.
“WHAT?” Nothing made sense. It felt insane, as if this was the dreaded sequel of your absurdist nightmare.
“THE WIND.” He shouted in reply as if that answered anything. A new set of screams followed as you tumbled down the stairs. He continued. “STOP ASKING SO MANY QUESTIONS AND ACCEPT MY HELP.”
“WELL, I WAS ABOUT TO BEFORE WE ALMOST DIED!”
“REALLY?” For the first time in a while, he took a good look at you, a smile evident on his face even despite death feeling very near to the both of you. An ultimately foolish decision, as Satoru almost ran straight into a wall.
“LOOK WHERE YOU’RE GOING, SATORU.” You called out, doing your utmost to keep up with him.
“YES, MAAM!” He turned around, turning up the speed with a newfound sense of motivation. If you stopped running for just a moment, you were sure your legs would fall off.
Nearing a corner, something materialised in front of you. Gojo looked at the mist forming then looked you dead in the eyes. “Accept my help. Please.”
“Okay, alright! I need your help.”
Everything went black.
Time stood still for what seemed like an eternity. Nothing could be seen but you were feeling everything, everywhere, all at once. Death was your first thought but with Gojo holding onto you, you knew you were still alive.
Then, onslaughts of colour flooded back into your vision. A different form of headache made you feel like you were about to puke out the whole galaxy. However, Gojo did. Even God couldn’t make puking seem graceful. There was enough anxiety to fill up every cell in your body and realising, you were both back in your apartment, you began to panic even more.  Deciding to focus on one thing at a time, you stumbled over towards the kitchen and got a glass of water for the both of you. Placing his down, you sat next to him.
Eagerly, you waited for him to say anything, anything at all to make sense of the past 15 minutes. He looked pale, sickly; whatever he had just done had evidently taken a lot more  out of him than he’d expected.
Gojo began to monologue, slowly, about his findings and how he got to you in the first place.

Missing Piece (Part Four)
Series Index | Masterlist
Summary: Cassian and Nesta are happily mated and in love, so why do they feel like something is missing? When a newcomer arrives in the City of Starlight, they learn that their bond is not yet complete.
Pairing: Cassian x Nesta x Reader (She/Her) (Poly Relationship)
Word Count: 3.3k
Warnings: n/a
⊱ —————— ❈  —————— ⊰
Cassian woke with a start, his hand on the short sword he kept next to the bed before he was fully conscious. His heart was racing and his chest ached with fear and grief that didn’t quite belong to him. He turned to Nesta, relieved to find her sitting up in bed, unharmed, but his heart sank when he saw her face. She too looked stricken, her own heart thundering in time with his, and Cassian realized that she too, had been awoken by the sharp sting of despair radiating down the bond.
“Y/N,” Nesta gasped, leaping out of bed with Cassian close behind her. They dressed swiftly, arming themselves without needing to say a word. Cassian felt Nesta’s anxiety, amplifying his own as he pondered what fate might have befallen their third mate. The surge of emotion that had woken them both was fading now, but it was intense enough to send the General and Valkyrie into a near-panic.
“You should stay here,” Cassian said when they reached the balcony, the thought of both his mates in peril almost too much to bear. Nesta shot him a vicious look, nearly snarling as she refused, and Cassian knew the request was futile. Sweeping her into his arms, he took flight, plummeting towards the inn where Y/N was staying with his heart in his throat.
When they landed on the clay tile roof of the inn, they were both relieved to find no immediate signs of disaster. They dropped silently onto the balcony outside of Y/N’s room, the location of which they had identified the day prior, purely for security purposes, of course. Inside, they could hear only one heartbeat, steady, but too rapid for a person that was sleeping. Nesta crept close to the window, peeking through a gap in the sheer curtains while Cassian hung back, careful to stay hidden from view.
Y/N was upright in bed, an open book on her lap that she didn’t seem to be reading. In the dim faelight, Nesta could barely make out the tear tracks on her beautiful face. There was something about her posture and the distant weariness of her expression that felt painfully familiar, and Nesta ached for her mate. She was unharmed, but something troubled her nonetheless.
“She’s alright,” Nesta whispered, pulling away from the window. “A nightmare, perhaps.” Both she and Cassian were familiar with the way dreams could torment even the toughest of people. Cassian nodded, the corners of his mouth downturned, and they returned to the roof to avoid being seen. The two sat there in silence for quite some time, listening to the fluttering heartbeat below them. They wouldn’t be able to sleep if they went home, the disquieted feeling having stirred old memories in them both. They knew what it was to be haunted, and worse, what it was like to watch someone they loved struggle with their past. Several hours later, as the sky began to brighten, Y/N heartbeat slowed as she fell back asleep and they reluctantly returned home.
“You know that’s called stalking…”, Azriel deadpanned when they landed at the House of Wind. Nesta rolled her eyes, brushing past him.
“Says the spy,” she called over her shoulder, heading towards the training ring. Azriel chuckled before shooting Cassian a quizzical look.
“We just went to check on her. Felt something through the bond… probably a nightmare,” said Cassian, appreciative of the fact that his brother didn’t press for further answers. Despite the lack of danger, the General’s stomach was still in a knot, and he could hardly voice his feelings to Nesta, let alone anyone else.
The uneasy feeling stuck with him throughout the morning, following him through training where he and Nesta were unusually quiet, their playful banter notably absent. The panic of the morning and the impending dinner were eating at both of them, and neither knew what to say to ease the other’s stress. Nesta went to the library afterward, intent on discussing Valkyrie training with Gwyn in order to distract herself. Cassian, on the other hand, did not have such restraint, and soon found himself circling in the air above the inn.
When he landed on the roof it was midmorning and the streets below were busy, a sharp contrast to the lonesome quiet just hours before. He knew the new healers were given the day off and he expected Y/N might still be sleeping. When he heard no heartbeat in the room below, though, he took flight again, scanning the area for an already familiar head of hair. He found her just a few blocks away, wandering towards the Palace of Thread and Jewels alone. Her shoulders were slightly slumped and he noticed how she looked down as she walked, as though lost in thought.
He hung back, intent on staying hidden, and lost sight of her briefly as she rounded a corner. Just as he was contemplating leaving her be now that he was assured of her wellbeing, a high-pitched scream rang out. The sound hit him like a blow, and despite Y/N being a near stranger, he knew in an instant it was her. Tucking his wings, he barreled downwards, making a hard landing on the side street she had just turned down. Her back was to him and she was turned to face the male healer he had seen before, who had a hand outstretched to rest on her shoulder.
Rage seized him and he stalked forward, his hand going to the hilt of his sword. Cassian was protective of Nesta, yes, but she was a Valkyrie and fearsome warrior, and he worried less now that she had proven herself capable in battle. Y/N, however, had gentleness about her that had him aching to whisk her to safety. She turned, her eyes widening when she saw him, and he tried to reign in his fury as he asked her, “Is everything alright?”
“I just startled her, that’s all—”, the male, Ezran, began, the words dying in his throat with one look from Cassian.
“I believe I was asking her,” he growled, resisting the urge to seize him by his collar and demand to know why twice now he had laid a hand on Cassian and Nesta’s mate. He forced a neutral expression when he turned to Y/N, searching for signs of injury or discomfort.
“It’s okay,” she said sweetly, flashing a small, disarming smile, “I was just surprised, that’s all.” There was a part of Cassian, one that was ruled by base instinct alone, that still wanted to rip Ezran to pieces for his indiscretion. He was once again reminded, though, that Y/N was not his and might not ever be if he terrorized her friends.
“Right, my apologies,” Cassian tried to smile at the male, but reckoned his attempt came up somewhat short. He turned back to Y/N, “Well, I suppose I’ll be seeing you tonight?”
She seemed somewhat caught off guard, pausing before she answered, “yes, of course. We look forward to it.”
Cassian truly hoped she was telling the truth.
⊱ —————— ❈  —————— ⊰
It was times like these that I missed my mother the most. She always had an uncanny ability to calm people down, even in the most stressful of situations; it was one of the many qualities that made her such a good healer. If she were still alive, she probably would have told me that there was no need to get worked up over a simple dinner and to enjoy the night. Coming from her, I might have believed it, but alone, I couldn’t seem to talk myself down. Something about the night felt pivotal, as though I was crossing some sort of event horizon. Although I couldn’t put my finger on why it felt so important, my instincts had scarcely been wrong before.
I took calming breaths as I dressed, willing myself not to fuss with my hair any longer. I hadn’t spent long in the clothing district of Velaris before realizing a new dress was an expense I couldn’t quite stomach, so I would be wearing the finest gown I brought from home. The dress was floor length, constructed of thick, ruby red velveteen. The sleeves came to my elbows, gathering there and the sweetheart neckline showed a hint of cleavage, without being immodest by Winter Court standards. It did not match the style of the Night Court, the fabric was heavy and the silhouette not quite right, but it would have to do for this occasion.
Elise knocked on my door shortly before we planned to leave. She had purchased a new outfit for the occasion, a smoke gray dress made of light fabric with cut-outs in the sleeves. She looked stunning, and if I didn’t know better, I might have assumed she was Night Court nobility, rather than a recent transplant. I tried not to fret about my outfit choice, but juxtaposed with her, it was difficult. We chatted in the hall while we waited for Ezran, who appeared wearing a slick black suit that seemed to be new. He complimented us both, offering us his arms as we made our way to the House of Wind.
I hadn’t thought about the logistics of reaching our venue until we approached the base of the steps and were met by a pair of Illyrian warriors and a gorgeous blonde female in a black, backless dress. “You must be our guests,” the blonde said, approaching us with a warm smile. “I’m Morrigan, but please, call me Mor.”
I had heard of Morrigan, the Night Court’s third in command and cousin to the High Lord, and I hadn’t expected her to be quite so warm. I smiled as I shook her hand, then turned to the other two. Cassian stood next to another Illyrian, one slightly shorter and shrouded in shadow, and somehow even more intimidating than the General.
“This is Cassian and Azriel,” Mor introduced them. Azriel gave a polite greeting, reaching out to shake our hands. I had heard a rumor that his hands were scarred by fire and made a point not to look at them as they touched mine. I knew what it was to be looked at with morbid curiosity.
I turned to Cassian next, meeting his blazing hazel eyes as I greeted him, “It’s good to see you again, General Cassian.”
“Please, call me Cassian,” he said, flashing a smile that made my heart flutter. “Shall we?”
“Azriel and Cassian will fly you two up,” Mor explained to Elise and me, “I’ll winnow you, Ezran, provided you don’t mind a bit of a jump.” Ezran grinned, taking her hand and I thought I saw something like jealousy flash across Elise’s face, but I was quickly distracted by Cassian’s approach.
He held out a hand to me, beckoning me closer, and I stepped into his arms without hesitation. Despite my nerves, there was something about being close to him that felt deeply right, and I couldn’t help but lean into his touch. He swept me up as if I weighed nothing and leapt into the air. I let out an involuntary yelp, squeezing his neck as the ground moved away from us, and he chuckled. The flight was short, but unlike anything I had ever experienced, and I couldn’t help but giggle as we landed on a large balcony atop the mountain. He set me down carefully and when I looked at his face he was grinning warmly.
The others had already landed, and we moved towards the entrance together. I expected to find a party in full swing, with other guests invited to dine with the Inner Circle, but only a few others loitered inside and the dining room was set for an intimate gathering. “It’s just us, then?” Ezran blurted, looking around the room.
“Were you expecting someone else?” a smooth voice asked. We turned to see Rhysand and Feyre, the High Lord and Lady, enter the dining room.
“No, my Lord. It’s an honor to be here,” Ezran stammered, beginning to bow. Elise and I moved to follow, but the High Lord held up a hand.
“No need for that,” he said with a warm smile on his face. “You’re among friends here.”
“May I introduce my lovely mate, High Lady Feyre.” The female at his side stepped forward to greet us and I fought the urge to bow again, instead inclining my head respectfully. Standing hand in hand, the pair before us radiated power and nobility.
“Please, call me Feyre,” she said, then stepped aside to beckon the other guests lingering behind her. “This is Amren, the Night Court’s second in command, and my sister Elain. I believe you have met Nesta.”
It was then that I caught sight of the eldest Archeron and I fought the urge to stare. She was dressed in a deep blue, floor-length gown adorned with silver beading. Her honey-brown hair was pulled into a bun, with strands pulled free to frame her face. She was utterly breathtaking, and I had to tear my eyes away to greet Elain and Amren.
I hid my surprise as we took our seats and found that mine was situated between Nesta and Cassian. Their scents intermingled as we sat shoulder to shoulder and I tried not to let it distract me too much, making an effort to listen to the polite conversation happening around us. Ezran and Elise shared their stories, answering our hosts' questions as dinner was served, and I welcomed the chance to sit back and observe. The group seemed oddly casual, given their status, and while they remained well-mannered, slight lapses in decorum spoke to comfort between them. If I didn’t know better, it was as though I was a guest at a regular family dinner.
“So, Y/N,” Feyre spoke and the attention of the table turned to me. “What brought you to Velaris?”
“A chance at a fresh start, I suppose,” I began, “and the opportunity to train under Madja, of course. While I had heard of Velaris’s beauty, my lady, I must say the city has exceeded my expectations.” Feyre smiled appreciatively at that, sharing a look with Rhysand.
“Will any loved ones from Winter be joining you?” the High Lord asked. Beside me, Nesta stiffened, dropping her fork rather loudly.
“No, I’m afraid it’s just me,” I replied. Cassian let out a sigh like he had been holding his breath and I resisted the urge to glance sideways.
Nesta turned to me then, her bright eyes boring into mine when she asked, “How long have you been a healer?”
“Well, my mother was one, so I trained under her from childhood. When I came of age I began working under master healers in the capital. I suppose I always wanted to follow in my mother’s footsteps,” I told them, a flash of grief striking me.
“Did you work alongside your mother in the Winter Court?” Elain asked, flashing a bright smile.
“I– uh— I never got the chance. She passed on before I started my official training,” I said, looking away before I could see pity in her eyes.
“I’m sorry to hear that,” said the High Lord, something like genuine empathy on his face. “The Night Court is lucky to have a healer so dedicated to the craft.”
The conversation drifted after that, allowing me to remain quiet save for a few comments here and there. The more I observed the Night Court’s Inner Circle, the more relaxed I felt. Their dynamic made it easy to forget I was amongst some of Prythian’s most powerful Fae, and by the time the meal ended, I was watching the banter with an easy smile.
After we finished eating, the party migrated towards the balcony and I found myself standing to the side with Cassian and Nesta. There were a few beats of awkward silence as the rest of the group broke off from us, then Nesta spoke.
“You look beautiful.” Her comment caught me off guard, butterflies filling my stomach. To my shock, Lady Death herself then blushed crimson, fumbling over the rest of her words. “I mean– your dress is beautiful… Not that you’re not. You look beautiful in the dress… and out of it… not naked I mean but… I’m sure you do look beautiful nak—”
Cassian cut her off with a gentle jab to the ribs and she froze, her wide eyes locking with mine as she gauged my reaction. The corner of my mouth twitched, breaking the tension, and all three of us laughed loudly. The sound of their laughter intermingling with mine had warmth blooming in my chest, as though a light there had begun to glow. To my shock, the feeling of warmth spread until it was outside of my body, connecting me to the male and female in front of me. I gasped, nearly stumbling as it hit me.
Mate. Mates. Plural.
The bond that had just snapped was not singular, but an infinite number of individual cords tying me to both of them. I had heard of triad mating bonds before, but never in a million years had I dreamt I’d be part of one. My mind spun as I grappled with the realization, my breath coming in short gasps. Cassian and Nesta were no longer laughing, their faces growing serious as they realized what had happened.
“You should sit down,” Cassian said. A gentle pair of hands guided me to a nearby chair and I plopped down. “It’s a lot to take in.”
“We’re…”, I trailed off, tugging on the newly formed bond to check once more that I wasn’t mistaken.
“Mates,” said Nesta, coming to sit next to me. The rest of the party had gone quiet, casting us weary glances as Feyre and Rhysand herded them back inside.
“I don’t understand,” I mumbled. My body felt heavy and I had pins and needles in my hands and feet. “You were already mates.”
“We are,” Cassian sat down on my other side, “but we were still missing a piece of the bond. Missing you.” I tried to focus on steadying my breathing as my mind raced. His words rang true, and underneath the all consuming shock was something else, something like hope. Being with them, in their presence, felt so intrinsically right that my instincts sang. It reminded me of another feeling, one I had only felt so far in my dreams.
“I dreamt of you,” I said the words as soon as I thought of them, finally looking up to see Nesta’s eyes lined with tears. To my other side, Cassian let out a soft gasp.
“We dreamt of you, too,” said Nesta. She reached out her hand as if to touch mine, then pulled back, biting her lip. A million questions swam in my mind. Did they know I was their mate when they dreamt of me? Did they want to find me? Did they want me at all?
“What happens now?” I whispered, dread filling me. I hadn’t realized how much I wanted a mate until I had two and I braced myself for the potential of rejection.
“We’d like to get to know you,” Cassian spoke softly, “if you’ll have us.”
“I’d like that too.”

“Many years ago,” began a story in a Singapore-based newspaper in 1899, “it used to be customary to transport convicts from India to this Colony.” That article profiled a courthouse scene of fisticuffs between two old men. According to the newspaper, these two ex-convicts opted “to settle their slight differences” with violence, resulting in the “junior” of the pair having “both his arms broken.” [...] Amused by the scene, the writer cast these men as relics from another time.
Convicts from South Asia were once a conspicuous presence in Southeast Asia, their handiwork visible everywhere, particularly in the built environment of Singapore.
In the twenty-first century, public acknowledgment of their achievements barely exists, elided by many in the Indian community who would rather not trace their origins to convict ancestors and erased by postcolonial governments that would rather not see their shining cities and states shaped by coerced labor. As for the roads, bridges, and buildings constructed by “servants” of the East India Company, as Indian convicts understood themselves, many have been leveled to make room for new monuments.
Convicts had a significant role in forging empires across the world. Penal transportation was a key strategy of British imperial rule, notably in the case of Australia, from the eighteenth century onward. However, the British also established penal settlements in Southeast Asia where they sent women and men from South Asia convicted of heinous crimes, including political offenses. [...]
Empire of Convicts: Indian Penal Labor in Colonial Southeast Asia tells the stories of convicts journeying across kala pani (black waters) and making their homes in Bengkulu, Penang, and Singapore, where they served extended sentences.
Despite finding themselves in novel and precarious situations, many prisoners exercised considerable agency and resisted colonial authorities, in some cases even becoming “their own warders.” Such are the tales of Fateh Khan of Banaras who emerged as the sahib and leader of the Indian convicts and soldiers in Bengkulu or Jallia who escaped from Penang and made his way back home to Gujarat or the many women and men who labored in Singapore for decades and never returned to India.
Political prisoners from South Asia lived alongside other convicts in the insular prisons of Southeast Asia. My book’s cover features the belongings of the Sikh rebel, Bhai Maharaj Singh, who fought the British in India and was held captive in Singapore in the early 1850s. These objects -- a conch shell, a finger ring, a knife, two steel quoits, a sewing needle and thread, and a religious text -- attest to persons and things dispersed across an Indian Ocean world. Empire of Convicts serves as a counterpart to well-known stories of law, crime, punishment, and prisons, and to an ongoing story of prisoners, particularly in the United States, being used for their labor and exploited by racist structures in liberal democracies.

𝕿𝖍𝖊𝖗𝖊 𝖜𝖊𝖗𝖊 𝖒𝖆𝖓𝖞 things that Umbridge needed to take care of after Fred and George had left. For one thing, upstairs was a very large swamp that they had created themselves. Umbridge had tried to get rid of it with no success and neither Flitwick nor McGonagall seemed very eager to try it out themselves.
Then there were the broom shaped holes in Umbridge's office door. Filch had replaced the door and Harry's broom was moved down into a dungeon to be guarded by a security troll. Bloody waste of time in my opinion.
There were also rebellious students who seemed to be trying to out-do each other for the vacant position of trouble-makers-in-chief. A niffler was put in Umbridge's office. The office was ripped apart, looking for shiny things and when Umbridge entered the room, the niffler leapt upon her hand to get to her shiny rings.
There were also dungbombs and stink pellets dropped in the corridors and people were producing bubble-head charms on themselves before going out so that they didn't have to breathe in the foul air.
Filch was now always prowling the corridors with a whip in his hand. The Inquisitorial Squad was attempting to help him as nearly every student had turned into a troublemaker but weird things were starting to happen to them. For instance, I knew for a fact that Lee was the one who had given Pansy Parkinson (much to Hermione's delight) antlers so that she had to miss a whole day of classes.
I had my art pad out frequently now, drawing everything. I had done two drawings of Pany Parkinson and her antlers and had posted it on a wall in the Great Hall so that everyone who came down to breakfast the next morning laughed at it. Pansy was extremely angry, and attempted to set it on fire. I'd put an protective spell on it however and the spell rebounded, catching her robes on fire. Professor Snape gave me a legitimate detention for that one. And then he'd punished me and I had been unable to sit down without wincing for two days.
No regrets though.
And of course, there were the Skiving Snackboxes. They were only used during Umbridge's class of course. Us students told her that we had Umbridge-itis and I spent a half hour in her class, striding up the aisles of the desk, trying hard not to laugh and telling the students in my class about it.
"A very dangerous disease of course." I said, walking past Susan who had her face in her hands, laughing hysterically. I had to pause carefully in between sentences as I was close to bursting into laughter myself. "Umbridge-itis has four different symptoms: Fainting, vomiting, dangerously high fevers, and bloody noses. The best way to avoid these symptoms is to stay far away from an Umbridge. An Umbridge," I stated, now walking past Ernie, Justin, and Zacharias who had tears of laughter in their eyes. "Is something that looks like a midgit and only wears pink. Looks a bit like a human toad and has a false, sweet voice."
Needless to say, Umbridge was not as amused as the students and I got three weeks worth of detention. However, the story of what I'd said spread throughout the school and soon, everyone was telling her that they had Umbridge-itis. I was also awarded twenty points to Hufflepuff by Professor McGonagall for performing a simple vanishing spell.
But no one, and I mean no one, caused more trouble than Peeves. He upended tables, shattered vases, knocked over statues, burst out of blackboards, shut Mrs. Norris up in a suit of armor twice, juggled burning torches over heads of screaming students, toppled neatly stacked parchment out of windows, flooded the second floor by pulled the taps off the handles in the bathroom, dropped a bag of tarantulas in the Great Hall during breakfast and whenever he was bored, spent hours floating above Umbridge and blowing loud raspberries every time she spoke, making the kids collapse into giggles.
The staff did absolutely nothing to help her- except Filch. Harry, Susan, and I were standing in a corridor, watching peeves unscrew a crystal chandelier, and then watched as Professor McGonagall walked by. "It unscrews the other way." she muttered, walking on and the three of us looked at each other in amazement and laughed. Then we hit the floor as the chandelier crashed, sending bits of crystal, metal, and glass our way.
Of course, it wasn't all fun and games. Umbridge was finding anything to put me in detention for- though at this point, I was really starting to deserve it. I'd created fliers about Umbridge-itis, posting them on the boards and walls and had neat little stacks of brochures for people to read. She'd told Filch to whip me whenever he saw me, so I'd taken to avoiding him as much as possible. I did have a couple whip marks on my back though, when I didn't watch out carefully enough. I wasn't the only one either- Filch seemed especially vindictive towards the Gryffindors.
Severus was a bit enraged about me being so proactive against her. "You're going to get hurt." He said as we were laying in bed after we'd finished making love. "And I mean really hurt- not cutting words into your hand or whip marks. . ." his fingers traced over a fading scar. He'd done some magic so that they wouldn't be permanent.
"I'm going to be fine." I said, smiling up at him and then kissing his cheek. "Besides, this is fun."
He groaned but said nothing more on the subject, running his fingers absentmindedly up and down my thigh before he finally fell asleep.
There was one last Quidditch match coming up which was Hufflepuff vs. Slytherin. I asked Severus in a teasing voice about who he hoped would win. He made an incoherent noise and ran his lips over my breasts. I supposed it was answer enough.
The Slytherin and Hufflepuff tensions were high and I noticed that I seemed to have an extraordinary amount of homework for Defense Against the Dark Arts class and no homework for any other class- including potions.
The day of the Quidditch match, our nerves had reached a certain height. I was pacing back and forth, my firebolt standing up by the door.
"We're going to win this." I said in a small voice, looking at everyone. "We are the best team here. And. . . and we're going to do this, not to show Umbridge, but to honor Cedric's memory."
"This one's for Cedric." Malcolm said in a strong voice.
"For Cedric." We all said.
We all stood up, holding our brooms over our shoulder. We walked onto the pitch, all stony faced. I shook hands with a replacement Captain for Montague who was still in the hospital. He was crying to crush my fingers but I didn't react. I remained emotionless.
Madam Hooch blew her whistle and we all flew upwards. Draco was keeping on my tail and I was doing my best to ignore him. I kept my eyes open, scanning for the snitch as I continued to fly around. Heidi scored.
"Give it up Kane!" Draco hissed somewhere to my right. "You can't win this and you know it. Cedirc couldn't have won this either. . ."
So he was going to tell me about Cedric now, was he? I dove. Draco rushed after me and I kept my eyes determinedly on a spot on the pitch. Draco was concentrating on where I was looking, not realizing that I was actually feinting. At the very last second before I was going to crash, I pulled up neatly. Draco on the other hand, crashed, and I sped back up, grinning victoriously.
"And Kane uses Krum's signature move Wronski Feint against Slytherin's seeker. Nice play Elizabeth!" Lee shouted from the speakers box. He wasn't being as fun as before- mostly because Fred and George had left. I winked at him as I sped by.
I was high enough that I could see Harry, Hermione, and Ron with Hagrid by his hut, going into the forest. I dodged a bludger and took off south. We were up forty points. I saw the snitch on the other side of the pitch and I streaked towards it. Draco was back on his broom zooming after me.
Suddenly, one of the Slytherin Chasers slammed into me from the ride side and I slipped off the broom. I tightened my legs so that I was hanging fifty feet in the air by my legs. There were screams and gasps from the crowd as I let go with my legs, throwing a hand up to catch the broom and then pulled myself up and taking off again.
The snitch had been lost, Draco had been gloating to much to catch it. I was thankful for that of course. Malcolm took a bludger to the stomach at that moment and was out of the game. Heidi and Zacharias immediately started scoring goal after goal with a furious intensity that was unrivaled. Our beaters were fiercely knocking Slytherins off their brooms too.
I dodged another bludger and then caught sight of the snitch. It was almost like fate, darting in front of Umbridge's effing nose. (Not literally, just close by the teacher's stand).
Draco was on the other side of the field and I zoomed towards the teacher stands, grinning. Umbridge fell back in fear, perhaps thinking I was attacking her, and I grabbed the snitch, holding it up triumphantly.
Lee was laughing at Umbridge and I grabbed the microphone and shouted into it, "That- was for Cedric!" And then I raced back to the ground where the other Hufflepuff team members flew down to meet me and we were all hugging. I was so joyful that I couldn't stop smiling. We were all smiling and half of us were crying too. We'd won the Cup! Hufflepuff hadn't won the cup in forever since Slytherin had had it nearly nine years in a row until Gryffindor had won two years ago.
The other Hufflepuffs were streaming out onto the Quidditch grounds, jumping and down in excitement. We were pushed up to where Professor Umbridge was waiting with the Quidditch Cup. She looked so pissed at having to give me the Quidditch Cup. It was trembling in her hands and I held out my hand for it.
She gritted her teeth and then Professor Sprout took it from her hands and handed it to me. "I'm glad such a worthy team got the Cup Miss Kane." She was beaming, looking extremely happy. I grinned back. Professor Umbridge looked like she had eaten a lemon. Severus looked quite proud too, hiding it in his eyes where only I could see it.
We headed back to the castle as a team. I saw Harry, Ron, and Hermione standing by the doors. They smiled as I passed by, waving the Quidditch Cup up.
Back in the Hufflepuff Common room, we threw a party with food, drinks, and dancing. It was very much like the party that Gryffindor had thrown when they'd won the cup.
We had a picture of Cedric on a desk with candles around him like an altar. This win was for Cedric. Around one in the morning everyone went to bed. I stayed up a little later, looking at Cedric's photo and picked it up in my hands.
His smiling face grinned back at me and winked. I smiled weakly. "I miss you." I said, tears coming to my eyes. "A lot." I guess I was wishing the photo would talk back- sometimes they did. But Cedric's photo wasn't charmed that way and he just beamed up at me and then gave me a thumbs up.
I put the photo back down on the table and pulled out some parchment.
We won the Quidditch Cup Dad. Guess I'm not a bad Captain after all. I think Cedric would be proud- the win was for him.
I didn't write anything else. I turned into a cat, picking the note up in my mouth and headed out so that I could go spend the night with Severus.

𝕿𝖍𝖊 𝖓𝖊𝖝𝖙 𝖒𝖔𝖗𝖓𝖎𝖓𝖌 Harry, Ron, Hermione, and I went outside to study.
"We have a lot to tell you." Ron said as we sat down.
"I already know." I said, taking out my Transfiguration book. "Hagrid brought back his baby brother Grawp and wants us to teach him English."
"Pretty much." Hermione said.
"Bloody hell." I muttered. "Do you know how dangerous that is? I swear this more dangerous than Norbert or Aragog."
"He hasn't been sacked yet." Ron pointed out.
"But he will be." I muttered and then sighed, "I suppose we'll have to, won't we?"
"We did promise." Hermione said reluctantly.
I sighed. "Well, we'll deal with it when the time comes then" and I opened up my Transfiguration book and started to read.

"𝕳𝖔𝖜 𝖒𝖆𝖓𝖞 𝖍𝖔𝖚𝖗𝖘 d'you think you're doing a day?" Ernie demanded me as I entered the common room a few days later.
I looked at him amused. "About six or seven."
"I'm doing eight." Ernie said, puffing out his chest and I rolled my eyes. "Eight or nine. I'm getting an hour in before breakfast every day. Eight's my average. I can do ten on a good weekend day. I did nine and-"
"Ernie." I said, amused. "You know you're going to do fine, right? Calm down."
"You don't seem stressed at all!" Susan said grumpily from a chair near the unlit fireplace.
"Of course I'm stressed." I said shrugging my shoulders. "I just don't show it." Right, more like I got all my stress out at night with Severus.
"I'm going to fail!" Hannah said hysterically, her eyes glazed over, staring blankly at the potions textbook in front of her.
"Calm down Hannah." I said, smiling. "You're going to do fine, just keep your head and don't freak out, alright?"
"Eliza!" Rose called from across the common room and I left the others to go to her.
"What's up Rose?" I asked, sitting down with her and her first-year friends.
"Will you help me with my lessons?" She asked, her tiny hands holding our her textbook.
"Of course!" I said brightly, taking the book from her and testing her on the different terms, definitions, and incantations. I also helped her with practicals, practicing the spells of my own first-year exams which had consisted of dancing pineapples and pretty snuffboxes.
I was also still trying to get Harry to close his mind for Occlumency but he was not improving. I was starting to get nervous. If I didn't get him to close his mind then what could happen? I knew what could happen- Harry could get lured somewhere.
I had to confiscate multiple different products that were being sold by the older students to the fifth-years before they were bought. I knew a majority of them were fake and some of them were dangerous. For example, dragon claw would boost your brain, but having to much exposure to the item could actually make you stupider than you really were.
During Herbology, Professor Sprout had the Hufflepuffs stay back and handed out exam schedules and details of the procedures.
"As you can see, your O.W.L.s are spread over two successive weeks. You will sit the theory exams in the mornings and the practice in the afternoons. Your practical Astronomy examination will, of course, take place at night. Now," She said, looking around the greenhouse, "I must warn you that the most stringent Anti-Cheating Charms have been applied to your examination papers. Auto-Answer Quills are banned from the examination hall, as are Remembrall's, Detachable Cribbing Cuffs, and Self-Correcting Ink. Every year, I am afraid to say, seems to harbor at least one student who thinks that he or she can get around the Wizarding Examinations Authority's rules. I can only hope that will not be anybody in Hufflepuff. Our new- headmistress- has asked the Heads of House to tell their students that cheating will be punished most severely- because, of course, your examination results will reflect upon the- headmistress's- new takeover at the school. . . However, instead of potentially risking your futures to destroy her career, it would be better advised to do your best."
Ernie shot his hand up into the air and Professor Sprout called on him, "When should we expect our results?"
"Some time in July." I answered without thinking and then blushed and said, "Sorry Professor!" The class laughed.
"It's quite fine Miss Kane. Yes, some time in July your exam results will come out Mr. Macmillan."
All houses would be taking the tests together instead of separately. Of course, times would vary once it got to the elective classes. But for every student, the written Charms exam was on Monday.
At Dinner, Hermione kept diving into her bag to check another fact in a book instead of eating.
"You really ought to eat Hermione or you're not going to be able to sleep tonight." Ron said, sticking another piece of steak into his mouth. I took a sip of pumpkin juice and then Hermione sat up and dropped her fork on her plate.
"Oh, my goodness. Is that them? Is that the examiners?" Hermione asked, so faint with anxiety she wasn't even Englishing properly.
"Are those the examiners?" I corrected her but while Harry chuckled, Hermione completely ignored me. Improper grammar annoyed the crap out of me.
"Shall we go and have a closer look?" Ron asked. We got up from our seats and hastened towards the entrance hall and we slowed down to walk behind the examiners.
"Journey was fine, journey was fine!" The little witch standing next to Umbridge was shouting. I supposed she was deaf. "Now, I haven't heard from Dumbledore lately!" And she peered around the hall excitedly. "No idea where he is, I suppose?"
"None at all." Umbridge said, shooting an ugly look at us but didn't bother saying anything. I supposed she wouldn't even insult a werewolf brat in front of the testing instructors. "But I daresay the Ministry of Magic will track him down soon enough. . ."
"I doubt it!" The tiny witch shouted, drawing looks from passing students. "not if Dumbledore doesn't want to be found! I should know. . . Examined him personally in Transfiguration and Charms when he did N.E.W.T.s. . . Did things with a wand I'd never seen before. . ."
So she was like one hundred and fifty years old then. Cause Dumbledore was like one hundred and twenty years (I would assume). Then I tried to think logically about how old he actually was and couldn't come up with a number. Yes, he had to be 113 cause he was born in 1881, so he was at least over 100. . . Good lord! Then how old was McGonagall? 75 years old?
I was reeling with these facts. Holy Crap, my Professors were so old. . . but you had to admire her. After all, McGonagall certainly didn't look 75 and she definitely didn't act like it either. Then again, Dumbledore didn't act like he was 113 either.
I spent Sunday night in Severus' room, reading my Charms book while he played absentmindedly with my hair and occasionally kissing me. When I finally laid the Charms book aside, he asked, "What did you look so shocked about when you came in?"
"I just realized today that Dumbledore is about 113 years old and Professor McGonagall is 75 years old." I said honestly, laying the book on his side table. "It just took me back a bit."
"I'm old too." Severus said softly and I thought I heard a note of sadness in his voice and I propped myself up on my elbows to look at him questioningly.
"No you're not." I argued. "You're nowhere near 75!"
"I'm in my thirties." He whispered. "That's double your age."
I gritted my teeth. "Don't play the pity game Severus. I love you and you're the one I want to spend the rest of my life with."
"Even if I die twenty years before you?" Severus asked and I realized that this conversation was going to more serious than I'd expected.
I sat up, letting the blankets fall from my naked body, extremely angry now. "You're regretting your decision, aren't you?"
"No!" He said quickly, sitting up too and I quickly looked away from his abs and just stared down. "I don't, Elizabeth. I'm sorry. I just don't want you to regret marrying someone as old as me."
"I don't regret a damn thing!" I said angrily.
Severus appraised me for a second and then I was so angry that I pushed him down on the bed and kissed him fiercely. There was an energy in me that I'd never felt before. I moved my lips down to his throat and bit, a bit harder than I meant to and he gasped.
He rolled over, slamming me down onto the bed and slid in so roughly that I gasped too. I dug my nails into his back as he moved faster and faster. I kept my mouth closed tight so that I didn't shriek. I wasn't in pain either, it felt so good. We were both breathing extremely hard, and small sounds escaped both our mouths. This. . . this was perfection.
His hands clutched at my body, his lips and teeth caressing my skin. My fingers tangled in his hair, pulling him closer to me. His hand traveled downwards, circling my clit, speeding up his hard, solid thrusts as I came over and over again.
There was something that I happened near the end too that had never happened before. It was nearly the highest point of our time together. His teeth bit me on the breast when it happened, it seemed like a jerk reaction. I wasn't entirely sure what had happened as I gasped, staring up at him.
He grinned, wiping away liquid from his chest. "Well I must've done really good to make you squirt love."
I blushed. "I- is that a good thing?"
Severus chuckled, pulling me close to his chest now that we were both cleaned up. He wrapped the blanket around my shoulders. "Of course love. It's a natural reaction."
With the reassurance that my body hadn't done anything wrong, I snuggled into him tightly and fell fast asleep.
When I woke up, I distracted myself by my nerves by observing the hickey on my breast now. "Sorry." Severus muttered sleepily, coming up behind me and observing us in the mirror. "You caught me by surprise."
I turned and saw he had one on his neck too and I touched it, "I meant that one." He grinned, kissing me on the lips. I saw the nail marks on his back then and I winced, "I didn't mean to do that though." I said, lightly touching the bruises. "Sorry."
"Don't worry, they'll be easy to cover up, this however-" he touched the hickey on his neck. "-that'll be a bit harder."
"Sorry." I repeated, not feeling all that sorry.
"You just need to learn to control yourself. You're just like a little kitten." he said mildly. I threw his shirt at him and pointed to the hickey on my breast.
"You're one to talk!"
He grinned, sweeping me into his arms to kiss my neck.
It was already eight-thirty and the exams started at nine-thirty and I needed to get up to the Great Hall for breakfast but Severus wasn't very keen to let me go. "It's to early, just stay here until your exams start." He mumbled, wrestling me back into bed.
I laughed as he kissed me repeatedly. "Sev, I need to eat!" And so he reluctantly let me up. I kissed him on the cheek and hurried up the stairs and into the Great Hall to eat.
I sat down at the Hufflepuff table and scarfed down a quick breakfast and then waited for the test to start. My heart was pounding and my nerves were being stretched thin. Oh I was going to fail. . . I was going to fail!
My heart settled down a bit once the exam started and I saw that the questions were a bit easier than I had thought they would be. I zoomed through them, knowing that I'd answered every single one of them correctly.
In the afternoon was the practical's for Charms where I made an eggcup do cartwheels and then levitated a wine glass. I had to perform the Color-change charm on a rat, trying to turn it orange, and then use the Growth Charm on a plant. Unfortunately, I think my rat was more golden than orange but it still looked orange enough I was sure I'd get most of my points.
I went to the library after that to study for Transfiguration. I figured that if all the tests- both written and practical- were like this I was going to get 'Outstandings' on everything. . . except Astronomy. That ticked me off. So I threw my Transfiguration book back in my bag and pulled out the Astronomy book.
I went back to the common room at nine, still studying Astronomy. The next day, the Transfiguration test went just easily as Charms. I was vanished my owl perfectly during practical's.
Then Herbology was on Wednesday and I planted the Fanged Geranium perfectly. Well, there was a smile nip on my ear but other than that, it couldn't have gone better.
Of course, I thought everything was going perfectly but I knew that I was probably going to fail everything if I thought like that. So, most of the time, I just doubted myself and tried to figure out all the things that I'd done wrong.
On Thursday, we had Defense Against the Dark Arts which I was sure went well. The most pleasing incident was doing all the jinxes, hexes, and counterspells perfectly in front of Umbitches nose. As expected, the fifth-years that hadn't been part of D.A. had a much harder time performing their spells. Some of them couldn't perform them at all, throwing panicked looks at Umbridge who was overseeing everything.
There was just the faintest of smiles on her lips when they did that. It made me want to accidentally miss the object in front of me and hex her instead.
I heard later that Harry got bonus points for producing a patronus. I was a bit disappointed that I hadn't had the chance to get bonus points but I figured it was no good crying over spilled milk. I focused even harder on Astronomy.
On Friday, Hermione and I went to Ancient Runes which I found was much more difficult than the other exams and immediately regretted not studying beforehand.
"How were the runes?" Ron asked as we came in through the Gryffindor portrait. Hermione wanted me to test her for Arithmancy.
"I mistranslated 'ehwaz'. It means 'partnership,' not 'defense', I mixed it up with 'eihwaz.' Hermione said. I was a bit surprised, I knew I hadn't missed that question at least. It had been one of the easier questions. Of course, the spellings were so similar for some of the runes that you had to re-read the questions a couple of times.
"Ah, well, that's only one mistake, isn't it, you'll still get-" Ron started stupidly.
"Oh shut up, it could be the one mistake that makes the difference between a pass and a fail. And what's more, someone's put another niffler in Umbridge's office, I don't know how they got it through that new window, but we just walked past there and Umbridge is shrieking her head off- by the sound of it, it tried to take a chunk out of her leg-"
"Good!" Harry and Ron said together but I shook my head.
"It is not good! She thinks it's Hagrid doing it, remember? And we do not want Hagrid chucked out!" Hermione said heatedly.
Harry looked out the window and then said, "He's teaching at the moment, she can't blame him."
"Oh, you're so naïve sometimes, Harry, you really think Umbridge will wait for proof?" Hermione said and seeming to forget that I was there to test her, she swept off for the girls' dormitory. I shook my head standing up.
"Such a lovely, sweet-tempered girl." Ron said fondly, pushing his queen forward on the chess board.
Potions was Monday and I studied for the exam Saturday and Sunday in Severus' room. I didn't leave the room except to eat and go to the bathroom. Of course, Severus was quite happy with this and helped me study between having some fun of his own. Sometimes he acted like such a teenager.
Of course, his mood when he was teaching or in the presence of Gryffindors and his mood when he was with me was so different that I always had to take a moment and wonder if he was being controlled. He was always so cold in class, emotionless, almost cruel. . . and with me. . . well it was a totally different side that no one had ever seen. I doubted anyone had seen how sweet, loving, and kind he could be when he wanted to. Only I had ever seen that side of him. . . and perhaps, at one point, mum had seen it too.
The exam on Monday for Potions went well. The written exam was a bit difficult, but the brewing process was at a good difficulty level for our class.
Tuesday was Care of Magical Creatures and I was determined to do well just to show Professor Umbridge that Hagrid was a good teacher. Of course, I wondered why Hagrid even put up with being a teacher. Third-year, Draco had ruined his class with Buckbeak. Fourth-year, Rita Skeeter had written horrible stories about him, and now this year Umbridge was extremely close to sacking him.
The Care of Magical Creatures exam went well. First was to find the knarl hidden among hedgehogs. The trick was to use milk because knarls would spit furiously, thinking you were trying to give them poison. Then you had to handle a Bowtruckle correctly, then clean and care for a fire-crab without getting burned, and lastly provided a selection of food that would be given to a sick unicorn to help it get better. I privately thought it was the easiest exam I had taken. Well no, Third-year Care of Magical Creatures exam was the easiest one.
The Astronomy sitting exam was Wednesday morning. My studying all week for it had certainly paid off because for what felt like the first time, I knew the answers to the questions.
Divination was in the afternoon. I was supposed to look in the crystal ball, tell a prediction by tea leaves, and then read the palm of the examiner.
My crystal ball and tea-leaves went smoothly. For the crystal ball, I said that I was foreseeing Kingsley Shacklebolt becoming Minister of Magic in three years. For the tea leaves, I said that Professor Umbridge would be taken by a herd of Centaurs. For the palm reading, I had a bit of difficulty because I didn't really see anything about the future with my examiner and finished off saying that they were going to die in about twenty-four years.
I was starting to think I should drop the subject. I knew Ron and Harry were going to. I froze on the stairs however, and Ernie and Susan stopped walking, looking back at me curiously. "What'd you see?" Ernie asked quickly.
I was watching Hagrid being attacked tonight and Professor McGonagall trying to help him out. "Oh dear." I whispered.
"What is it?" Susan asked urgently.
"Umbridge is going to go after Hagrid tonight during our Astronomy exam." I whispered. "They're not going to sack him, they're going to try and arrest him."
"They can't do that!" Ernie said indignantly.
"Well they're going to." I said breathlessly. "I need. . . I need to figure out how to stop it, excuse me." I rushed past them, leaving them on the stairs and hurrying to Professor McGonagall's office.
I quickly recounted what I'd seen and said, "You really shouldn't go and save him, you'll get hurt!"
Professor McGonagall's face was stony. "I'm forewarned now Miss Kane. Just do well on your Astronomy exam, okay? I'd like you to get a perfect set of O.W.L.s."
I had no choice but to leave her office, feeling horrible. I did as she had instructed however and pulled out my astronomy book and compared it to a practice exam. My mind felt terribly numb and I took a quick nap in the Hufflepuff common room before dinner.
I headed up to the Astronomy tower with a sinking stomach and heavy feet. Ernie and Susan were walking with me, saying nothing, just watching my face. I got a telescope between Ernie and Hermione.
My hands were shaking as Professor Marchbanks started the exam. I looked through the telescope and quickly wrote down what I saw, drawing, and trying to keep in mind the things that Firenze, Sinistra, and Trelawney had taught me.
I was two-thirds of the way done when I looked down, writing a note on my parchment and saw Umbridge strolling across the ground, about five or six people following after her. I quickly looked through the telescope again, trying to ignore her. I saw Ernie give me the swiftest of looks and I shook my head slightly. Eighty percent done. Come on. . .
I heard the distant noise of a fist hammering on a door and my stomach lurched. Oh Merlin's beard. . . I could hear Fang barking like mad.
I pressed my eye to the telescope again, marking the position of Venus and labeling it on the map.
There, my map was done. I quickly doubled checked everything and then heard a distant roar from far away that rang all the way up to the Astronomy tower. I flinched. No, this constellation was drawn wrong. I shakily erased the little bit and then redid it.
"Try and concentrate, now, boys and girls." Professor Tofty said softly. I noticed Hermione was still staring down at Hagrid's cabin. "Ahem- twenty minutes to go." Hermione jerked back to her star chart.
There was a BANG from the grounds and people muttered "Ouch!" as they ducked out from underneath their telescopes.
Hagrid's door had burst open now and there were red lights shooting towards him, they were trying to stun him.
"No!" Hermione and I cried together. I had the strangest urge to jump off the Astronomy tower the way that I had when Professor Quirrell had cornered me in my first-year and go and help Hagrid.
"My dears! This is an examination!" Professor Tofty said in a strangled voice but no one was looking at their charts anymore.
The voices were carrying all the way up to the Astronomy tower, "Be reasonable, Hagrid!"
"Reasonable be damned, yeh won' take me like this, Dawlish!" Hagrid shouted. I wondered if Kingsley was down there and I'd made up my mind.
There were screams as I jumped from the Astronomy tower. I had my wand out, my face set in grim determination. I waved my wand, stopping my fall and then landed on my feet and raced towards Hagrid's cabin. I saw light behind me and knew that Professor McGonagall had exited the castle.
"How dare you!" Professor McGonagall shouted, not seeing me to her left. "How dare you! Leave him alone! Alone, I say! On what grounds are you attacking him? He has done nothing, nothing to warrant such an attack!" Her wand was out, and blocked the stuns that were sent her way. But it was four different people and she stumbled back.
My wand was out and I sent stunning spells towards them with as much force as I could muster. I did notice that Kingsley was in the back, blending in nicely with the background. I pretended not to notice him. Why was everyone I loved turning out not to be the people I thought they were? Lupin was a coward, Kingsley was a monster, Sirius was a jerk, James was inconsiderate, and Lily had hated James.
And then, Professor McGonagall noticed me and was distracted enough that four stunning spells hit her. I felt horrible but continued to send my spells towards them.
"You're going to be expelled Kane!" Umbridge shouted at me. I noticed Kingsley was hesitating.
"COWARDS! RUDDY COWARDS! HAVE SOME O' THAT- AN' THAT-"
I was a bit surprised as Hagrid collapsed two of the attackers. Hagrid slung Fang's stunned body over his shoulders and hurried into the forest. Kingsley waved his wand and everyone collapsed except me and him. He hurried over to where I was standing and pushed me out of sight of the Astronomy Tower.
"What the hell are you doing down here?" He asked. I'd never seen Kingsley angry before. His accent mixed in with his words.
"Why the hell did you attack him?" I asked furiously. "You're supposed to be a good person!"
"I have a part to play, Elizabeth. I'm going to erase their memories. They need to forget that you were here. Your dad-"
"Yeah well my dad's never exactly who he's says he is either. Guess I should get used to the people I love being the people they aren't." I shoved his arm away and hurried over to where Professor McGonagall was. Professor Snape and Professor Flitwick were hurrying out of the castle now, Professor Sprout was emerging from the greenhouses.
"Get inside Miss Kane." Professor Flitwick said, for once his squeaky voice wasn't very cheerful. I stormed over to the Astronomy tower and used a propulsion charm to propel myself up, grabbing the edge of the tower and pulling myself up.
Parvati and Lavender were in tears, worried about Professor McGonagall. The Hufflepuffs were staring at me with shock. The examiners rebuked me for the crazy stunt that I had done. Remembering that Kingsley was going to erase the others memories down below, I performed the swiftest memory charm on the two examiners, removing only the scene of me jumping from the Astronomy tower. . . hopefully.
We all trooped down the stairs. Hermione was shaking with rage, though it was nothing compared to my anger. "That evil woman! Trying to sneak up on Hagrid in the dead of night!"
"She clearly wanted to avoid another scene like Trelawney's." Ernie said, squeezing into our group.
"Hagrid did well, didn't he?" Ron asked though he looked alarmed. "How come all the spells bounced off him?"
"His giant blood." I muttered.
"Poor Professor McGonagall. . ." Hermione said. "Four stunners straight in the chest and she's not exactly young, is she?"
I shook my head. "She'll be lucky if she's still alive by tomorrow morning."
"Dreadful, dreadful, well, I'm off to bed. . . 'Night, all. . . Elizabeth, aren't you coming?" Ernie asked pompously.
"I'll be back in a minute." I promised and hurried with Hermione, Harry, and Ron to the Gryffindor common room. Hermione's eyes were full of tears and I felt like crying myself.
We found that the commotion had awoken many people in the common room and now most of the group was up. Seamus and Dean had arrived ahead of us and had recounted the story in detail so there were many eyes on me and Lee said, "I heard you pulled some ninja warrior stunts Elizabeth?"
I smiled grimly and dropped it immediately.
"Why sack Hagrid now?" Angelina asked. "It's not like Trelawney, he's been teaching much better than usual this year!"
"Umbridge hates part-humans." Hermione said bitterly, sitting down in an arm chair. "She was always going to try and get Hagrid out. Look at Elizabeth- her father's a werewolf and Umbridge has been trying to take everything from her."
I wished people would stop always bringing me up.
"And she thought Hagrid was putting nifflers in her office." Katie piped up.
"Oh blimey." Lee said. "It's me's been putting the nifflers in her office, Fred and George left me a couple, I've been levitating them in through her window..."
"She'd have sacked him anyway, he was too close to Dumbledore." Dean pointed out.
"That's true." Harry said, sinking into an armchair.
"I just hope Professor McGonagall's all right." Lavender said tearfully. Everyones eyes flickered over to me.
"They carried her back up to the castle, we watched through the dormitory window." Colin said. "She didn't look very well. . ."
Everyones eyes were still on me and I sighed and closed my eyes. There, they were transporting her to St. Mungo's. . . she'd stay there all term. . . come back with a cane in hand. . . I opened my eyes, "She'll live. They're going to transport her to St. Mungo's in the morning. Madam Pomfrey says it's lucky she's not dead. She'll be back before the end of the year is out though. Oooh I hope Umbridge gets punished for this!"
Not likely though if everyone was like Kingsley.
I knew that it would be four in the morning before the common room cleared but I left anyways, hurrying to Professor Snape's bedroom. He was sitting up at his desk, doing something and slammed it down when he came in. "Oh, it's just you."
"I can come back." I mumbled sleepily. To be honest, I believed that if I went back to the Hufflepuff dorm I would probably fall asleep there.
"No." Severus said, standing up and coming over to turn off the light. "Come on sleepy head."
I lay there for a few moments, feeling absolutely horrible. Tears leaked out of my eyes and spilled over my cheeks. I shifted my head so that the tears wouldn't drop onto Severus' chest because I knew then he'd know I was crying.
"She's going to be okay." Severus said suddenly and I realized that he knew I was crying.
"I know." I said thickly. "I. . . I said some really horrible things to Kingsley though. . ."
"Yes, he pulled me aside and told me." Severus said lightly. "I'm not exactly sure what you're referring to though when you say your dad isn't who you thought he was."
I was silent for a moment and then said, "Nearly everyone I love. . . none of them are who I thought they were. Dad, Lupin- he's a coward. Kinsley's a monster. James was arrogant. Mum was decent but she hated James. . . it wasn't the romantic, love at first sight I thought it was. And Sirius is a jerk too."
Severus didn't speak for so long I nearly fell asleep and then he said so softly I barely caught his words, "You're wrong, you know."
"About what?" I asked, feeling snappish.
"Kingsley isn't a monster. He has a role to play. He can't just go against the Minister, he'd lose his job. I mean. . . what do you think I'm doing Elizabeth? I have to play two sides as well! And your dad, Lupin, I mean, he's not a coward. I don't even know where you got that idea-"
"He said it himself." I muttered. "Harry and I snuck into Umbridge's office. Harry wanted to speak to Sirius about James after he saw the -er- memory. He said he never believed he would feel sorry for you- he's not exactly proud of his -our- dad anymore. But Lupin. . . he said that he never had the guts to stand up to them and tell them to lay off you. And I saw it in the memory too. . . he did nothing, just like a coward." I finished this off extremely bitter.
"You know." Severus said lightly. "You're judging Remus, Sirius, James, and Lily all based on what you saw when they- we- were teenagers. Your dad isn't a coward, Lily really did... she really did love James. And James became less arrogant -towards others anyways- when he got older. I'd say Sirius is still a bit of a jerk, but that's a biased opinion."
I laughed weakly and said, "You're right, I know that I just. . ."
Severus kissed me and said, "Get some sleep. You have exams in the morning."
I squirmed until I was warm enough and comfortable enough, my head resting in the crook of his arm and I fell asleep quickly.
🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
𝕳𝖎𝖘𝖙𝖔𝖗𝖞 𝖔𝖋 𝕸𝖆𝖌𝖎𝖈 was to be taken the next afternoon and I slept in so that I could be refreshed enough for the test. It was being held just slightly later than the other exams so that we could get an adequate amount of sleep since we'd had our practical astronomy last night. So instead of being held at nine-thirty, it was held at two o'clock. But I still had Magical Theory at one o'clock, whic I hadn't studied for as I had been to preoccupied with Astronomy.
A lot of the students looked tired when I went in for lunch around 12:17. I'd pretty much woken up 10 minutes before 12 o'clock- alone in the room because Severus had been teaching a second-year potions class.
I sat down at the Hufflepuff table and Susan, Ernie, and some of the other Hufflepuffs asked me what was going to happen to Professor McGonagall. I told them what I'd foreseen and told them to keep quiet about it.
I went into the Magical Theory classroom for the exam with about maybe thirty something other students. The exam went smoothly, though I wasn't as sure about my answers as I had been with my other exams.
Then we came back to the Great Hall for the exam around two and settled into our seats. I took the exam and worked through the questions methodically. A lot of them were about the goblin rebellions that Professor Binns had taught about. Of course, dates and names were hard to get straight and I had a horrible memory for dates, so I worked much slower on this exam.
There were also much easier questions surrounding the statue of secrecy and also the confederation of warlocks and many other questions that I knew. I answered the questions about the Werewolf registration act with ease, a bit of a smirk on my face.
I finished writing up the last question and set the exam aside. And then, a vision popped into my head. I kept my mouth shut so that I didn't gasp as I watched Voldemort somewhere in the Ministry of magic, torturing Sirius. My hand clenched around my desk. If I was seeing this. . .
I shook my head and looked back at Harry and saw that he had fallen to the floor and he was starting to writhe, clutching his scar.
"Professor Marchbanks!" I called and pointed to where Harry lay. Professor Tofty quickly hurried over while Professor Marchbanks continued to survey us, though her eyes jumped nervously to where Harry lay. Professor Tofty led Harry out of the room and I looked at where Hermione was sitting.
I quickly turned back around and looked into the vision more. Was Sirius there? But how? Kreacher maybe? No. . . we were going to arrive at the Ministry. . . it was going to be a trap. I felt strangely relieved. And then. . . the Order would show up to save us. . . and. . . Sirius would die!
I felt my heart sink. Harry had seen the same thing. Would he listen to me if I told him it was a trap? If I told him that Sirius wasn't actually there? But how could I prove it? I'd told Harry and Ron and Hermione visions before and they didn't believe me. They didn't believe me about Professor Quirrell. . . though granted they didn't know about my visions then. But they wouldn't believe me in our third-year that Sirius was innocent or that he wasn't after Harry and they had known about my visions then!
I barely noticed when Professor Marchbanks dismissed us until Hermione was practically pulling me out of my seat. I blinked and jumped up with the others and left with them.
We hurried up the marble staircase where we saw Harry flying down the staircase towards us. "Come with me, I've got to tell you something. . ." Harry said quickly and I shook my head but followed him along the first-floor corridor until we found an empty room.
"Voldemort's got Sirius." Harry said.
"No he doesn't." I said softly. "Harry-"
"Yes he does!" Harry snapped at me.
"No he doesn't!" I argued, heat rising to my cheeks. "I saw what's going to happen! Voldemort is taking advantage of your connection. He showed you a false memory. He created the memory for you! When we get to London- but we're not- it'll be a trap. You are the only one who can get what Voldemort wants. We'll get there, there will be no Sirius, the Order will come to save us and then, that's when Sirius finally gets there and Bellatrix Lestrange kills him. So yes, Sirius will die, but only if we go to London."
Harry was shaking his head. "You don't understand!"
"Oh?" I asked, raising my eyebrow. "And what don't I understand?"
"Sirius wasn't the only person there!" Harry said.
I frowned. "No, it was only Voldemort and Sirius."
Harry shook his head and then said, "Elizabeth, he's got Trang too."

Notatka:
Wróciłam do domu zastając w nim siostrę i jej przyjaciółkę.

Horace Desmoulins is adorable compilation
You who made vows for our union, who took our hands into yours, you who have smiled at my son and whom his infantile hands have carassed so many times, can you then reject my prayer, scorn my tears and trample justice under your feet?  Lucile in an unfinished letter to Robespierre, written somewhere between March 31 and April 4 1794.
You would be amused at hearing Horace talk about his arrival: he is to rush in and embrace you, frighten his aunt and Mère Laneau, run all over the whole house from cellar to garret; above all he is to make plenty of noise. He says all this with the greatest vivacity, and only quiets down when he remembers that he is far away from you. He’s no longer the same child; he said, with great calmness, “For all that, I cannot get accustomed to not seeing Maman. I cry every evening and morning.” Dear, too amiable child; at his simple and touching sorrow my own tears fall!... You have been informed of the way in which we passed the 30th. I had much pleasure in making the day of parting pleasant, and in spite of the grand people at the house of little Agathe's mama, where we dined, I managed to amuse the little people, the half of whom I took back to sleep with me. The evening passed quickly away; at ten o'clock they still wanted to go on with their little games. At last my carriage took us back, and at eleven o'clock our little friends were lying in their beds side by side in my room, where they slept well; at nine o'clock in the morning they went back to the college, where I took them, happy and contented, and they are quite well. They will write to you soon; my son, Horace’s secretary, is going to beg you to come and see him. In yeilding to their eagerness to have you, you will crown my desires.  Letter from madame Philippeaux to madame Duplessis, February 21 1801, telling her about a playdate between Horace and her son Auguste.
To Citoienne Duplessis, Paris, 10 Ventôse, year X (March 1 1802) Goodness triumphs and Horace is currently more often on his bed than in it. The coughing is diminishing all the time; he will be discharged tomorrow or the day after tomorrow; so you can rest easy. His guard has just given him some lint to occupy himself with in order to prevent him from bugging his neighbors whose stockings and shoes he was throwing in the air. So there’s no longer any danger. I now wish that la maman is doing as well as the child. Salut and respect. I pass the quill to my neighbor. Pierre J. Duplain
An hour after leaving you yesterday, citoyenne amie, I gave Horace his snake (couleuvre), which he saw again with tenderness, and they played together to fully reconnect. He is now only waiting for his two medicines, the first of which may arrive tomorrow. He told me that he was getting mieux en mieux, with the seriousness best suited to persuade me, and without forgetting, when repeating these words, to make the first x ring out capably before the following vowel. He really is adorable: I embraced him twenty times over for his lovable mien and we will all sketch him together (nous le crouqerons ensemble) more at ease in five or six days. We won't do it before then: that's what the supervising pharmacist told me. Goodbye; try to be as well soon as Horace is already. I just saw him again this morning with a marshmallow in the pocket; he is always getting better and better. A thousand hugs from his part as well as from mine.  PS — He's occupying himself with writing for you in a little notebook several drafts of letters that couldn't be funnier. Panis Letter to Annette Duplessis reporting that Horace is recovering well from some illness while at Prytanée français (former Louis-le-Grand), to which he gained a scholarship in December 1800.
I count on the pleasure of seeing you after tomorrow. You will have Victoire and her mother on Sunday, if the weather is fine, and even our Horace, in whose conduct there is much improvement. Be quiet on that part; I swear to you that there are many means with such a child. The slighest assumed coldness from my part, seemed to me to be unbearable for him. He quickly brought me his homework, trying to read in my eyes if he had lost my friendship for good, and telling me such things that I struggled with containing myself to giving him only a mediocre kiss , instead of my usual caresses. I'll tell you the rest on Saturday. Farewell; please take good care of yourself. Always be courageous in overcoming all your subjects of trouble. You can't better repay my strong attachment than by trying to perserve yourself. Let us always remember that Horace, who truly loves us, needs us. I embrace you a thousand times with all my heart, without forgetting Adèle.  Panis to Annette Duplessis June 17 1803
I knew this child, a young pupil of the institution of St. Barbe, directed by M. Lanneau, and I was his master. He was a very amiable and interesting child. I have never heard him spoken of since, and if he be still alive, it is evident that he has not made so much noise in the world as his father. Anonymous note on Horace written by one of his maîtres while at college
Nicknames: little Horace (Madame Philippeaux, Camille, his father and mother-in-law), little lizard (Camille), little wolf (Ricord), baby rabbit (Fréron), my little one, dear child (Lucile)

Last year, today I went our with my brother and his friends and obviously I got bored so I called him if he would join and he came.
So me and him went to gangaur ghat and there we had pani puri. So like he didn't wanna have pani puri so I asked bhaiya to just give one plate and the bhaiya thought we having from one plate only and I fed him with my hands and then we went to ghat and sat there with our feet in water while admiring the chand and then later we went to have kulfi there and after taking kulfi we again went to ghat side like where there was no one just two of us and the only sound was of ours, waves and of bells ringing in temple and we were just laughing and looking at the chand and were kinda playing and it was all so surreal and euphoric.
Okay chand is like witness of the love we shared. Tho rn things are not good but there was the time when it was all like a fairy tale and someone would dream to have.

Sorry to ask but I was wondering what would you do Zoé x Cosette corpse bride au? I’m just curious and wanting to find out.😅
Hmm 🤔
Victorian era, gay people are either killed or arrested
Zoé’s family is facing financial difficulties and as Audrey’s eldest daughter, she’s arranged to be married to the nouveau riche son of the owner of a chain of successful restaurants
(But also so Audrey and Chloé will be rid of her)
Remember when we feared these two being shipped?
Tumblr media
Yeah, they’re getting married
This will raise the social class of Nathaniel’s mother and restore the wealth of Zoe’s family
But there are zero sparks. None. Nada. Zilch. And guess why
The wedding rehearsal goes fine at first when Nathaniel recites his vows… Then turns to hell when Zoé forgets her vows, accidentally sets Aya’s dress on fire and drops her ring
Embarrassed, Zoé runs to a nearby forest to rehearse her vows, even going so far as to put her wedding ring on a strange hand-shaped root
Then lightning, wind, crows, and the root is revealed to be the hand of a nearly decomposed young woman in a wedding dress
Zoé, of course, is terrified. Cuz that’s a damn corpse! So she runs away, but the corpse bride finds her and spirits her away
Welcome to the Land of the Dead!
When Zoé comes to, she finds herself surrounded by numerous corpses… Wanna know how they died?
Marc fell off a tall building (Chat Noir wasn’t there to catch him)
Ismael’s mom… Snapped
Reshma died of food poisoning
Simon was crushed by his own analytical engine, and bits and pieces stick out of his body
A small meteorite went right through Denise’s chest while they were stargazing on the roof
Lacey fell off a cliff while going for a hike
During a performance, Jean fell through a trap door
Austin T was killed by some homophobes who heard him professing his love at Jean’s grave
Aurore was struck by lightning because the tip of her umbrella was made of metal
Mireille drowned when some guys pushed her in a lake
Austin A died from hair products laced with uranium (Very dangerous)
Austin B died from a Black Widow. (The homicidal woman, not the spider)
Austin Q’s was choked in his sleep by an unknown assailant
Jean sings a little song to explain everything and Zoé learns that the corpse bride, Cosette, was murdered years ago on the night of their elopement by their fiancée, who stole the family jewels and gold they had brought
Desperate to return back home despite her blushing whenever Cosette smiles because all this is way too much for her, Zoé tricks her into returning her to the Lans of the Living by claiming she wants her to meet her parents
Cosette brings Zoé to meet the Elder (It’s Mendeleiev), the ruler of the underworld, and she grants them temporary passage
Zoé reunited with Nathaniel and claims she wants to marry him, but he doesn’t really believe that and confesses he never actually wanted to marry her
Before Zoé could say anything else, Cosette discovers them together and, betrayed and hurt, drags Zoé back to the Land of the Dead
Nathaniel tries to tell his mom and the Bourgeois family of Zoé situation, but no one believes him and they assume she’s left him
Without even informing Nathaniel or his mother, the Bourgeois family decides to marry him off to a distant relative of theirs. Lila. (Shut up)
Zoé eventually reconciles with Cosette after a piano duet where they almost kiss, only to be interrupted by Jean and Austin walking in on them while making out
Zoé/Cosette: *Lean in to kiss*
Jean: Sweet! Is this a make out party! Come here, mon amour! *Dips Austin and kisses him*
Later, Zoé learns of Nathaniel’s impending marriage to Lila from her family’s newly deceased butler
Deciding, ‘fuck it, she’s cute, and I don’t even like guys,’ Zoé decides to marry Cosette
Only, this will require her to repeat her wedding vows in the Land of the Living and drink a deadly poison in order to join them in death.
The dead prepare for the ceremony and head "upstairs", where the town erupts into a temporary panic upon their arrival until the living recognize their departed loved ones and reunite with them
The chaos causes a panicked Lila to expose her own poor financial standing and her intentions to marry Nathaniel only for his wealth
Nathaniel: I’m out! I almost got married to a girl who’s clearly sapphic, I saw a corpse in a wedding dress, the dead have risen, and now this?! I just can’t do this anymore! *Grabs a bottle of wine* And I’m keeping the ring!
Going for a walk to clear his head, Nathaniel witnesses Zoé and Cosette’s wedding as Zoé complete her vows without any trouble
He decides not to stop the wedding because obviously Cosette makes her happy in a way he wouldn’t ever be able to and sits down… Right next to Marc
Just as Zoé is about to drink the poison, Lila arrives to kidnap Nathaniel and holds him a knife point, threatening to kill him unless he marries her
Cosette: … Wait a minute… *Recognizes Lila* Oh, you SON OF A-!
Reshma: We’re in a church!
Cosette recognizes Lila as both her previous fiancée and murderer
Zoé duels with Lila to protect Nathaniel until Cosette intervenes to save her life by taking a sword to the neck
Accepting defeat, Lila mockingly toasts Cosette for dying unwed and unwittingly drinks the poison, causing her to die and allowing the dead – who cannot interfere in the affairs of the living – to take retribution against her for her crimes
The Dead: *Dragging Lila to a grave as she kicks and screams*
Ismael: Welcome to the Land of the Dead, bitch.
Tumblr media
So, because she loves Cosette and her family really sucks ass, Zoé drinks the poison and becomes a corpse. They kiss, and all is well for the married couple
… Well, some is well
See, during Zoé and Lila’s duel, Lila accidentally slashed Nathaniel right across the chest and it cut way deep. Also, this is Victorian times, is the technology available to ensure he won’t die?… Probably not.
Anyway, Nathaniel dies, and now he’s a corpse. Fortunately, that cute corpse he sat with offers to show him around the Land of the Dead
