Star Trek Voyager Episode where the crew interacts with a species wherein only married couples can be respected captain-first officer duos and so Janeway has to be pretend to be married to Chakotay in order to cut a deal. Neelix suggests this, saying that's actually how most people do it - even amongst that species themselves. A lot of marriages of convenience even as they all pretend to be deeply in love. However, the day they're supposed to be beamed down Janeway wakes up in Tuvok's body and vice versa. It's decided that Tuvok will go down instead. On the planet, Tuvok quickly shows that he's able to act exactly like Janeway to an almost uncanny degree (funny bc it's just Janeway's actor acting normally). Tuvok explains it's because he's extremely well acquainted with her, it isn't difficult to imagine what she'd think, how she'd act, in most situations. (This is related to Tuvok keeping 'detailed notes' on Janeway but not mentioned in episode). He and Chakotay have a lot of tension between them because Tuvok keeps verbally poking at him whenever he's not acting as Janeway and they have a bad history with undercover work between them. This eventually culminates in a large argument RIGHT before they have to do a dinner wherein everyone in attendance looks into their partner's eyes and talks about why they love them. Uh oh! Chakotay goes first after Tuvok pauses for a suspiciously long time when he's called upon to do it (mix of not knowing how Janeway would do this particular thing & the recent argument). Though he's ostensibly talking about his feelings for Janeway it's obvious to the audience and Tuvok that he's actually talking to Tuvok about how his actions hurt Chakotay but he wants to move forward and try to get along because that's his responsibility. He knows Tuvok is extraordinarily competent at his job but can't help thinking about how much better they'd be able to work as a team if he didn't fight against him so much. Chakotay's in a new and difficult situation too. He wishes Tuvok wouldn't make it harder. In the past [the Maquis] they worked together so well - he's willing to try with him to get back to that. Is Tuvok? When it's finally Tuvok's turn he does the same, apologizing for how he's been acting toward Chakotay and is even able to (through speaking as Janeway) bring up slightly more emotional things he's going through such as jealousy and loneliness. Then he reaffirms (as Janeway) and affirms for the first time (as Tuvok) that there's no one on board better suited to the role of first officer than Chakotay and they're fortunate to have him. He hopes that he might earn Chakotay's forgiveness and believes that with effort they can repair what's happened between them. It is a stark contrast to the extremely flowery, grandiose, and yet somehow generic declarations of love everyone else has given throughout the dinner and for a moment all is quiet. Then the head of the table stands and gestures for the two of them to brought a rose - signaling that they've been recognized as allies. "That," the head says gravely, nodding. "Is love." On the way back to Voyager they receive news that after several twists and turns wherein like everybody got body swapped for a while they've got a surefire way to swap back! Chakotay and Tuvok bicker briefly about something mundane and Chakotay brings up what they said to each other on the planet. Tuvok insists he was speaking as Janeway. Chakotay disengages, sighing. He thought they might actually be able to move past this. After a brief silence Chakotay brings up that it's sort of a shame he never got to swap with anyone. Feels like he missed out. Tuvok is quiet before saying he believes Chakotay is perfectly fine as-is. Chakotay looks at him. Tuvok doesn't meet his gaze. Chakotay smiles softly, turning away. hmm... had to think about this for a while and talk about it with co-author, but here's what we got. we mostly base this stuff on how plausible it is in show/if there's evidence for it. with a dash of personal experience. This only applies to residuum, btw. I have different personal headcanons for these characters outside the comic.

april: lesbian. this is mostly based off of the fact that most aprils get with their caseys & the comment she said to dale. which could be taken as disinterest in dale specifically, but she seemed more concerned with impressing that popular girl earlier and that reads as more... saphic, i suppose. or at the very least homoromantic.

raph: raph is just raph. we look at him and basically just *tv static*. go crazy. all we got is jokes or stuff that has too little evidence to support. so, yeah, he's whatever you want him to be i guess?

leo: trans. already said my reason in the other post. also, gay. if gay were a power source he could power the entirety of the united states for five months straight without a single power outage. failing power grid notwithstanding (< thats the actual word. its supposed to be mushed together like that. wack.).

donnie: as much as i'd like him to be ace/aro spectrum rep, he just doesn't have the evidence in show for us to apply it to him in this comic. it's funny, for being hc as ace so often he sure is the most outwardly romantic/sexual turtle in the show lmao. one! cherry: "you're so cute, but you're so mean! why do i always go for your type?" two! astrogirl?? (whatever her name is) he is very very romantic with her. he has a type y'all. also just look at those two, he's a leg man lmao (bootyyshaker9000 anyone? ha!) anyway. and with the bromance/instant chemistry he had with that one guy in the purple dragons... Still with a teasing Dorcas trailing behind him, Regulus unlocked the door to his shared house and sighed when he saw the living room was very full. Plus Dorcas wasn’t good at keeping her mouth shut.

“So,” She started, suspiciously smirking as she flopped next to their confused looking friends on the couch.

“Dorcas.” He whined, dragging out the s with a hissing sound as he dropped his head into Pandoras lap.

“What happened?” The twins spoke, exactly at the same time as they looked at each other and burst out laughing.

With an eyebrow wiggle, Dorcas sat herself up on the couch and simply just grinned. “Regulus, you said you’d tell me more if I kept quiet on the ride home.”

“In my defence that was only to shut you up.”

A groan.

“What? I planned on getting home, reading, and going to sleep.”

“Oh come on Reggie, talk to us.” Barty stuck his feet in the air and attempted to poke a now even more grumpy Regulus in the face.

He raised his hands in surrender after a minute or two of his friends yelling and attempting to tackle him on the sofa.

In all honesty, he really didn’t think it was worth it. James was cute, yes. He was sweet, the embodiment of the sun, so so gorgeous, caring- really no one had ever made Regulus feel the way he felt when he saw those eyes staring innocently into his heart. The yes that plunged deep into his chest and brushed against his heart, they were so close, but so out of reach. The feeling seemed to grip him harder when he saw that red haired girl, her arm on is, a sweet smile on her face and pretty freckles decorating his nose.

Pale skin and freckles. Regulus has that, but he guessed it wasn’t good enough - he wasn’t a girl.

Her hair is burning and orange, like a sharp, hot fire. His hair is dark black and shiny and looked like the night sky full with stars when the light hit him just right, it’s soft and curled - and James would know that if he would just reach out.

Reach out, touch it. Run his hands through it, all over him for all he cares. Just please.

“He’s my coaches son, and actually Sirius’ best friend.” He shrugged. “I don’t know- he just latched onto me.”

“That’s so cute.” Pandora cooed.

“Besides, he’s got a girlfriend - I think. It doesn’t matter.”

“You think?” Barty questioned.

Regulus just nodded, chewing slightly on the pink skin of his lips.

Snap the fuck out of it, it only ends in heartbreak. He wanted to scream to himself, protected by the thick walls of his head - that way not a soul could hear him. Just stop.
