I love DnD shows that choose to not make the classically evil/monstrous races inherently evil and so I obv very much appreciate that Riz is such a good boy but I also love that he is not just a short human or green hobbit but a true weird little guy, perhaps even Just A Fucked Up Little Guy and those things don’t negate each other. Love my weirdo good boy child. My spiralling skrunkly boy. Little angel baby boy who will eat his enemies <3

The Rise of Dimension 20: The Changing Face of Roleplay
I remember when I first heard about Dimension 20 in 2019. I had subscribed to Dropout to watch Um, Actually and I saw D20 being pushed on the platform. I sat down and watched the first episode, then the second. In two days I had finished the first season.
I had never seen anything like it. I had tried NADDPOD and CR and bounced off both (I'd eventually fall head over heels for the former, and gain a solid respect for the latter), but I fell in love with the Bad Kids, the Intrepid Heroes, the world of Elmville, and the style of Brennan Lee Mulligan.
Later, I would learn that the first season of Fantasy High was seen by most in the community as a sort of novelty, the last death-rattle of a dying company. It was cool and new, sure, but it was also a flash in the pan.
Escape From the Bloodkeep proved the naysayers wrong. It proved that Brennan was as much the source of the fun as the Intrepid Heroes, and it showed us something that set him apart from the pack - Brennan was constantly pushing himself to be better. Out of the starting gate, he proved a technical proficiency on par with Matt Mercer, the reigning king, but for Brennan, that wasn't enough. He wasn't facing off with Matt, he was facing off with himself, and he needed to be better.
The Unsleeping City continued this trend. It was another setting the DND actual play community wasn't used to - the real world. The characters were fresh, new, more nuanced than the children they played in Fantasy High. They were up to the challenge, with the same drive as Brennan. Brennan and Ally redefined how the Wild Magic Sorcerer was played, Lou Wilson brought an abandoned Unearthed Arcana to the forefront, and the pair played, perhaps, their best roles to date.
Tiny Heist showed that Brennan could bend 5e to be something it wasn't meant to be - a heist simulator.
Then came A Crown of Candy. Some hold this season to be Brennan's magnum opus and the best performances the Intrepid Heroes have ever given. The combat was quick, dirty, tactical, the characters textured and nuanced. Our heroes had to get out of impossible situations, both in roleplay and combat. Death was a very real possibility. And this season was what sealed Brennan as a real rival for Matt, and was when "I only have Dropout for D20" stopped being a joke and started being a reality. Brennan had hit his stride.
The sidequests and seasons two from this point don't really prove my point, but they're good. Brennan didn't do a couple of them, though.
Then we get to Starstruck. Set in a world his mother had created, it obviously meant a lot to Brennan, and so he strived to outdo everything he'd done up to this point. It was funnier, more moving, the combat more tactical than anything he'd done before. He included space combat, and the cast once again rose to the occasion, portraying those cast out and cast aside by the corporatocracy that was the Starstruck universe, forming a touching bond. It was as if he had peaked.
And then came Neverafter, and with that, Brennan became king. It was horrific, scary, brutal. Combat wasn't fun or interesting, it was intense and nail-biting. The party dropped in their first combat encounter. Children were brutally murdered. They were up against eldritch horrors in perverse retellings of fairy tales. The humor was there, sure, but it was twisted, dark, more about relieving stress than being funny. And again, the cast excelled.
And all because Brennan wasn't trying to outdo Matt or Griffin or Brian, but himself. Each season, he wanted to be better than he had ever been before, pushing his technical abilities, his storytelling abilities, to the max. And the world of actual play shows improved as well. Matt stepped up his game, as did the other big dogs. Brennan redefined the game.
Or I could just be a massive fanboy who's reading way too far into things. Either/or.

The Cipher Show!
[written by bilicipher and CryptidIver on twitter go follow us :)]
You are now watching The Cipher Show!
Featuring: Bill Cipher, Scalene Cipher, and Euclid Cipher.
Today's episode is Family.
Camera pans to the Ciphers standing in the middle of their cozy living room. Bill is between his 2 parents
SCALENE: This family means the world to me! Euclid, my husband, works hard to make ends meet for us. Bill, our child, is our pride and joy!
EUCLID wraps an arm around BILL who has a sheepish smile on his face
EUCLID: Bill is a smart kid, one day he’ll be the smartest triangle in Euclydia!
BILL: Thanks dad! Thanks mom! You guys are the best parents anyone could ask for! I love you guys.
SCALENE AND EUCLID (in unison): We love you too, Billy!
Everything slowly fades to black.
The opacity lowers, the Ciphers are now eating at the dinner table.
BILL is playing with his food and SCALENE is not too happy about that.
SCALENE: Billy, we don’t play with our food.
BILL: I’m sorry mom.
EUCLID (facing the camera): Bill’s kinda stubborn. He doesn’t like to follow the rules.
SCALENE: Would you like to be reminded of the rules, Bill?
BILL: Yes, please.
SCALENE: There are several rules we have to follow in order to live peacefully in this household but also not to get in trouble with other Euclydians!
Camera pans to EUCLID:
EUCLID: Rule number one! No shoes inside of the house!
Camera pans to SCALENE:
SCALENE: Rule number two! Always be polite and respectful.
EUCLID: But don’t hesitate to give anyone the finger if they treat you like an ant! Am I right?
Laughing track plays.
SCALENE: Here’s one very important rule now… do not talk about the third dimension.
BILL: But why? I can see it.
SCALENE: We know, Billy. But it is strictly forbidden!
BILL: But, mooom! I just want you guys to understand! There’s stars and the third dimension —
AD BREAK.
[Somber music starts playing.
Do you have a loved one who was born with a mutation? Do they see things no one else can see? Do you wish… they were normal?
Upbeat music starts playing.
WELL, PEOPLE I GOT A CURE JUST FOR YA!
I PRESENT TO YOU, THE TRIDIMENSIO-BLOCK! 3 SIPS A DAY KEEPS THE VISIONS AWAY!
YOUR LOVED ONE WILL BE BACK TO NORMAL SOONER THAN YOU THINK! They will never talk about seeing “the stars” ever again!
BUY TRIDIMENSIO-BLOCK!

Back to the show!]
SCALENE and EUCLID are sitting down. They look a bit tired. BILL is nowhere to be seen.
EUCLID: We just put Bill to sleep…
SCALENE: He got a bit too agitated, we told him to take his medication.
EUCLID: 3 sips of TriDimensio-block keeps the visions away! Like the doctor said. Bill gets real fussy and refuses to take his medicine unless he drinks it through a silly straw.
EUCLID and SCALENE laugh softly in unison.
SCALENE: We love Bill, he’s our only child and means the world to us.
EUCLID: But he gets us in trouble, constantly. We had to pay 3 fines in the past 6 months because he talked about that damn dimension.
SCALENE: He’s temporarily suspended from school because he talked about the third dimension to a group of kids at recess.
EUCLID: The school board is run by triacontagons, they have no mercy. They threatened to permanently expel Bill from school!
SCALENE sighed.
EUCLID: We’re just triangles in a world run by circles. It’s tough out here for us as it is and Bill’s keeps fooling around.
SCALENE: Euclid… calm down.
EUCLID: Look, I’m just worried about Bill. Don’t you see him murmuring to himself sometimes?
SCALENE: I do, but…
EUCLID: Something’s going on with him. I fear that one day he’ll step too far out of line and someone will get hurt because of it!
SCALENE: Euclid… he would never hurt us, or anyone, for that matter. Bill is fine.
SOHDVH KHOS PH. L’P QRW ILQH.
The scene switches to BILL, who is not asleep. He has been in his room this entire time, listening to his parents.
BILL has a sad look on his face.
BILL: No one even tries to understand me! I like mom and dad but they don’t listen to me! TriDimensio-block HURTS! And it makes my vision all blurry.
BILL sits at his desk. Numerous sheets of paper lay before him. It appears he’s been doodling some kind of…plan?
BILL: I’ve been hiding my work from mom and dad. I’m trying to come up with a big plan to make everyone in Euclydia see the stars! I’ve scrapped a lot of my ideas… because according to my calculations, it would just end up killing everyone.
BILL scribbles on his paper… he seems content, overjoyed even.
BILL: Ah ha! I think I did it! I’ve found a way to show everyone the stars with 0 casualties!
BILL proudly shows the plan he made to the camera.
BILL: I’m gonna have so many friends! I hope the hexagons will let me hang out with them, they’re so cool! People will love me! Dad won’t be scared of me anymore.
BILL gets up from his chair and hides his plan under his bed.
BILL: Mom and Dad can’t find out about this. This has to be a surprise.
BILL tucks himself into bed. He has a hopeful expression on his face, but it turns uneasy.
BILL: I’m not a bad person, right? Sure, there’s a mini-me inside my head that’s always telling me to do bad things but I just ignore it.
BILL: The truth is, living here kinda sucks… flat people with flat dreams. I have so much potential but they’re holding me back! They won’t let me help them see there’s so much more.
BILL: But now that I’ve come up with the perfect plan, the insults and dirty looks will finally stop. I can’t wait. Goodnight.
BILL drifts off to sleep, hoping to show the stars to his people the next morning.
NEXT EPISODE! Bill finally puts his plan into motion and hyhubwklqj zhqw devroxwhob zurqj. Hyhubrqh glhg. Eloo zdv fryhuhg lq eorrg. Kh frxogq’w vdyh dqbrqh. Wkh odvw olylqj Hxfolghdq.

Super Dragon Ball Heroes 21-24
tfw probably something is bad happening right now.
This is the “Universe Creation” arc of SDBH, which features more of the Time Patrol than what we’ve seen in the first 19 episodes. I’m guessing that’s why the Episode 20 special was made, so viewers would recognize characters like Chronoa and Xeno Pan when they showed up here. Anyway, the story begins with the Divine Tokitoki Bird going missing. Chronoa’s main duty as the Supreme Kai of Time is to look after the bird, so she mobilizes the Time Patrol to find him. Unfortunately, the Time Patrol in this show is just six people.
Turns out, the bird is on Earth, and he shows up right where Goku and the boys are training or whatever. Moments like these feel like something out of a teenager’s fanfic. Like, here’s all the characters I wanted in my story, and I just plopped them all in Bulma’s backyard and they’re sparring because why not. Then the plot device shows up right in front of them, two seconds after it went missing. Like, don’t even try to make this feel natural, we’ve got to get this thing moving.
Trunks and Pan arrive next and find Tokitoki, which would seem to make this a really dull story. The only tension is that most of the characters are confused about Trunks being different from the version we’ve seen in the first 19 episodes. Vegeta explains that it’s an alternate Trunks from a “different dimension”, like the Xeno Goku and Xeno Vegeta they encountered on the Prison Planet. Vegeta also says that they’ve met this version of Trunks before, but he never elaborates. So why is Xeno Trunks confused, then? Also, why doesn’t anyone ask about Xeno Pan? You’d think she’d raise some interesting questions.
Then all twelve Gods of Destruction show up. Overkill much? They’re here to destroy Tokitoki.
Beerus fires a hakai blast, but Tokitoki just blows it away with his wings. “You came here to kill me, catboy? You better make it count. Better finish me in one shot. What’s wrong? I’m right here. Come and get this work.”
Beerus explains that he had a premonition of a mysterious bird appearing in Universe 7 to destroy the entire multiverse. And Tokitoki’s a bird, and this is Universe 7, so it sure seems like Tokitoki’s been caught red-handed of the imaginary crime that Beerus saw in a dream. Yessir.
I’m not even sure why Beerus is explaining himself. Look, he came here to destroy Tokitoki. So let him do it. No, Trunks, don’t bother defending the bird. He can fight his own battles. Go kill him, Beerus. He’s not going anywhere. You and your eleven pals, go destroy him. All at once. Unless you’re all a bunch of punk-ass bitches. No, that couldn’t be it.
They don’t do a damn thing, and then Tokitoki just nopes out and leaves. Then they all find their missing spines, and when they realize they can’t follow Tokitoki because they can’t sense his energy, they decide to destroy the Earth for aiding and abetting Tokitoki. What a clownshow these guys are. Maybe Hearts couldn’t have killed Grand Zeno, but he probably would have made short work out of these idiots.
But Beerus tells them to hold off, since this is his universe. He’ll handle things, and so Goku and the others conclude that their only chance is to fight Beerus.
Meanwhile, Fu watches on, joined by his new pal, Dogidogi. He’s like a fake evil version of Tokitoki, I guess.
So the gang on Earth fights Beerus for a bit, and then Xeno Goku and Xeno Vegeta show up and warn them about something more important happening right now.
These creepy roots are spreading across the skies of Earth, and they’re draining the planet’s energy. The Gods of Destruction turn their senses to their own universes and find that the same thing is happening to every planet everywhere. So they withdraw to look after their home territories.
Then Fu and Dogidogi show up, and Beerus realizes that Dogidogi is the “bird of catastrophe” from his premonition. Fu explains that the Universe Seed Hearts used in the last arc has now germinated into a cosmic tree, and it’s drawing energy from the twelve universes.
Vegeta correctly deduces that Hearts was an unwitting catspaw in Fu’s plan. Hearts sought to use the Universe Seed as a weapon, but Fu wanted to see the seed grow.
Fu’s objective is to create a new universe. I’m not sure if the tree will become a universe, or maybe the tree will produce a new universe like some kind of fruit. All that really matters is that his plan depends on the tree draining all the other universes, which the good guys can’t allow.
Fu leaves, and some of the gang begin to grow weak from the tree’s effects, so Beerus uses his own power to blunt the effects. However, he can’t keep this up for long, so he’s counting on the others to resolve this crisis.
Meanwhile, Fu has a conference with his own team of guys. One of them is his mom, Towa, although she doesn’t say or do anything here, so I’m not sure what to make of this.
So this is your standard group of movie villains and GT castoffs. We have Super 17, Bojack, uh... some guy in a labcoat...
... Turles, who literally takes a bite of his Tree of Might Fruit in every scene he’s in...
And fuckin’ Cooler’s back. I guess he’s sticking with being on Fu’s team, not that he’s ever going to explain any of this. Seriously, he’s been all over this show and yet he’s barely done anything.
Bojack picks a fight with Turles, because I guess he’s still sore with the Saiyans for his defeat in Movie 9, but Turles is no pushover. Anyway, Fu convinces them to stand down, explaining that he plucked each of them from the moments right before Goku and the others defeated them, all so they could join Fu’s team and get a second chance at life in the new universe Fu is creating. The prospect seems to be enough to convince Bojack and Turles to get along.
I kind of want to go off on a tangent about this particular selection of Movie villains, but I should probably hold off, since there’s still a few more that will show up before this is over.
So the good guys basically split up into two groups. Xeno Trunks and Xeno Pan go with Goku and Vegeta, while Xeno Goku and Xeno Vegeta go off on their own. Trunks’ group ends up in... some place, where they get ambushed by Bojack and Turles. Yeah, there’s a pretty sharp decline in animation quality here. I feel bad for Bojack fans.
Meanwhile, Xeno Goku and Xeno Vegeta go to hell, where they meet a mysterious contact who summoned them here. It turns out to be this scientist guy from Fu’s team, and all he wants to do is fight them.
Okay, so this dude refers to himself as “Dr. W,” and all he really does is swing that big metal thing on his right hand, which shoots energy blasts that move in unpredictable paths. All he really wants to do is to analyze and record the boys’ fighting styles with his cybernetic eyepiece.
I’m pretty sure this guy is supposed to be Dr. Wheelo from DBZ Movie 2, but for some reason Toei or Bandai wanted to swap out the brain-in-a-robot-body design with this version. Did Fu supply him with a new body? Or is this not the Wheelo we knew from Movie 2? I’m pretty sure these questions never get answered. It really doesn’t matter, because this fight sucks, and either this guy is Wheelo, or he’s not. If he is Dr. Wheelo, then he sucks for being Dr. Wheelo, because I hate Movie 2. If he’s not Dr. Wheelo, then he’s just some rando they stuck in this show for no reason, which is pretty dumb.
Anyway, Xeno Goku and Xeno Vegeta fight the guy at Super Saiyan 3 and get nowhere.
So they turn Super Saiyan 4 and shoot their big energy beams at him, but they have no effect.
In the other place, Dogidogi uses his powers to paralyze the good guys, which allows Fu to capture Tokitoki and escape.
Not sure what it says about Fu that he can subdue Tokitoki when Beerus seemed to be powerless against him. Oh well.
In Hell, Dr. W escapes Goku and Vegeta and heads for a broken down machine in a cell. He announces that he has collected all the data he needs on Goku and Vegeta, and will now input it into the person he’s speaking to...
... Janemba. So I guess that machine there is the spirit cleanser machine that broke down in Movie 12. How would Dr. W be able to share his data files with Janemba? How would he even know how to do this? Did Fu already recruit Janemba, or did he send Dr. W down here with instructions for reactivating him? I don’t get it.
Okay, so let’s talk about the movie villains. Assuming Dr. W is Wheelo, we’re missing the following classic Z movie bad guys:
Garlic Junior
Lord Slug
Android 13
Z-Broly
Bio-Broly
Hirudegarn
Does that mean anything? I feel like Lord Slug gets to be involved in these things more often. He was in the Hatchiyack OVA, for example. They usually pass over Garlic and Wheelo, and I always assumed this was because they weren’t popular enough to be worth the effort. Z-Broly’s kind of too big for this sort of thing, and Bio-Broly flat out sucks, so no mystery there. Hirudegarn is kind of difficult because he’s a rampaging beast, so he doesn’t fit with the whole henchman thing. As for Android 13, well, maybe Toei decided they liked Super 17 better, and they didn’t want two androids on the team.
Anyway, this whole story makes no friggin’ sense. You can just grow universes from seeds now and Fu is making a new universe off the corpses of the old universes, and not even the Gods of Destruction can stop it. Even accepting all of this, wouldn’t this be a job for the Grand Zenos? I mean, it’s clearly too big for anyone else to handle, and if Fu gets his way, the entire multiverse dies. You’d think that would warrant some attention.

Say the omega rebellion is successful and the government collapses. What would the yandere alphas do? Who would try to escape? Who would try to fight back? Who would fail?
Alright as you try to drown out the screams and panic in the background I’m here to give you a quick breakdown of the colossal calamity. Because holy butter. Do omegas have a lot of pent up anger. And all of you know what happens when something has been pent up for far too long.
Fucking Ka-BOOM!
Yandere Alpha’s - Omega’s toppling them will break some of their goddamn brains. Which makes it easier for more of them to be a part of the slaughter. By enhanced scythes that make murder almost effortless. It just takes one swing! *cue Grim from Billy and Mandy-esque laughter*
Others will be fighting back and trying to subdue some of the hoards that have spawned from seemingly nowhere. It’s as if there was an entire nation of Omega’s that were living in hiding and only just now had the proper leadership to overthrow the repressive dictators. The hellish scenes of those who are in their rank, that does not cease nor subside will eventually wear those with mightiest of mettle. Will succumb to the hordes.
Some will beg and plead to not be killed.
Others will simply sit in their leather chairs and have a stiff drink as death walks through their doors armed with Molotov Cocktails.
Fleeing for an Alpha isn’t too possible since most of the good hiding places are still occupied by those who were ostracized by them in the first place.
“Sucks when the shoe is on the other foot doesn't it?” A frying pan crashing into a figure could be heard from miles away.
Only a small population of docile Alpha’s that were known to be kind to those in the lower classifications will be spared.
America, Germany, and Russia would be the Alpha’s that fight to their deaths.
England and China were prepared for this. They escape. England with his magical powers. But he now has to live in his magical dimension probably permanently. China, he’s wise and was not here for the bullshit. He built an entire secret underground palace where he’ll live out the rest of his days with his staff and his omega love.
Canada dude just had a lot of favor with the Omega’s. He was kind to them. Mattie boy gets to watch the collapse of life as he once knew it while watching it on his HD TV. He’s chilling while he eats a pile of maple pancakes and enjoying the absence of his annoying twin.
Beta’s - A lot of them are in awe of how feral Omegas are. They’re impressed, terrified, and lending a hand to the rebellion. Although it took a reasonable amount of discussion and discourse to get through to some sizable groups of them.
After the war has started a lot of them will either be stationed in the city facilitating medical, transport, and communications amidst the blood, debris, & political dissonance. They’re the ones behind the larger operation and do their best to seek out Alpha’s with enhanced technology that can look at a person's gene code. Since some Alpha’s have tried to hide amongst the Omega’s and pretend that they were on their side for the entire time.
The ones who fail in this group are the ones who firmly believed in the Alpha Controlled Government, those who ratted people out, blackmailed, etc will be the ones who get interrogated for information, tortured, and imprisoned.
France- Going to be inebriated though all of this. The rebellion has broke his brain. He’ll be found at the end of the war somewhere with an empty red wine bottle facedown on the concrete with sparkles still around him. (He’s that fabulous.)
Italy- With his brother and Spain, mass producing white flags, annnnnnnnd trying his best not to flood his apartment.
Spain- Considering drinking but doesn’t want to freak out Italy.
Romano- Stress drinking and chowing down on his third bowl of pasta.
Omega’s - Some of them are scared and excited out of their mind. Only about 20% of them would be unwilling to get violent in the uprising. However, that did not mean that they were going to be useless. Since a great deal of them are nurses, cooks, and other blue collar jobs that made life for the Alpha’s easy. Nevertheless, that didn’t mean that all Omega’s dedicated themselves to the cause.

If you’re excited for Exandria Unlimited but are wondering what Matt is like as a player, I highly recommend checking out Dimension 20’s Escape from the Bloodkeep. It’s a wildly funny LOTR parody following the evil lieutenants of the Lord of Shadows who thought they were just about to be victorious over the World of Men, Elves and Dwarves, but then everything got fucked up because a couple halflings tossed their boss’ magic jewelry in a volcano.
Matt plays the pactwraith Kraz-Thun (but his friends call him Leiland.) He’s deeply insecure, in love with the Lord of Shadows, and has to pump himself up with daily affirmations. His arch-nemesis is a halfling who hit him really hard with a frying pan and now he’s got a complex about it. He’s by far my favorite of Matt’s player characters, even though he’s also cursed with Matt’s terrible PC rolls.
Also the whole cast is extremely fun and likable and instead of an evil campaign, the vile villains learn the power of friendship and found family because of course they do. Also Erika Ishii is a player too, y’all know I adore Erika. She plays the spider queen who’s actually a wine mom to her thousands of little spider children. It’s shockingly wholesome.
Go watch it, it’s all up on YouTube for free!

magic and misfits was really good and so was the trailer
I’ve already made my post complaining about “a magical school” being the first words shown to a fandom thirsty for a certain season 3, BUT other than that it is probably the best trailer for a season.
REVEAL #1
Panning in on the dome we hear Erika Ishii’s voice so despite the text that I will never forgive, we immediately know that it isn’t a season with the main cast, this is important for a few reasons:
1. It immediately tells us this isn’t a normal season, things are happening out of order and things are different
2. Now we are trying to guess the theme of the cast which really throws us off later on
The b-roll from the laptop to the dice is just good, with lines from the show over it starting to establish what this season is.
REVEAL #2
Bam, Lou Wilson. Ally being in one of the side quest seasons wasn’t a one-off thing, anyone can be in any season.
Then we go to the cast and it sets the very lighthearted tone with the WandaVision and streaming jokes, as well as showing us the line that made me laugh the most in the whole show. This just establishes more of the characters and cast and then suddenly:
REVEAL #3
BRENNAN IS A PLAYER. FULLY OUT OF LEFT FIELD. Huge reveal which immediately causes the question of WHO IS DMING IF HES PLAYING? The easy answer would be Zac Oyama or Murph, but then
REVEAL #4
Aabria Iyengar is dming, suddenly anything for d20 is possible (including a oops, all Zac season with Zac DMing). This also serves to show that there are only 4 cast members, and as mentioned before, things are very different this season.
It then goes into classic trailer stuff, the fantastic Harry Potter bit and then
REVEAL #5
a FOUR EPISODE EVENT. This is a risky season for dimension 20, they are for the first time having a non-brennan dm, so it makes sense why there are only four episodes (as much as we all wanted more). They put this front and center to make sure that fans knew, this is four episodes and, upon first watch of the trailer this was relieving to me personally, I wasn’t sure about a non brennan-dm-season (im completely sold now, and was 10 minutes into the first episode) but its a new and risky whole season, and establishing the “only four episodes” early was amazing placement.
REVEAL #6
The wands are really dope and I love that they didn’t show post-transformation in the trailer
REVEAL #7
The Box of Doom
It’s back in the dome, and the Box of Doom is back
Overall its just a really good trailer and arguably their best one yet

i am losing my MIND over arthur’s first day
i fucking loved this special, i’d give it a 9/10 only because the character models and animation suck as usual, but other than that i was really impressed. samir is great, and alex finally has more depth after 20+ years!
the rest is tl;dr bc it’s just me going absolutely feral as i watched the episode but i’m posting it anyway
*spoilers*
- dw said she’s five, so arthur is nine? they’re all officially a year older? will they still be a year older in all future episodes?? i have so many questions
- dw making arthur into her packmule and making him carry her shit, lol love it
- buster wishing dw gl on her first day of kindergarten was wholesome af whY IS THIS BOY SO SWEET
- ARTHUR STILL HAS HIS LUCKY PENCIL?? OMG
- YAMLET IS ALIVE ??? he was turned into french fries at the end of “prunella the packrat” what is this 😂😂 buster has more than one yamlet...
- buster and his rock shaped like iowa
- buster’s lucky hat from “friday the 13th”!
- ”anyway you two should probably be split up. you’re a bad influence on each other” DW YOU DID NOT JUST TELL THEM TO BREAK UP
THEIR FACES
- francine and muffy riding to school in muffy’s limo eating quiches was the most sapphic thing that’s happened in recent eps and i’m Loving it
- binky getting mr. ratburn for the third time in a row 😂
- i still have no idea how mrs. grimslid went from pe coach to teaching fourth grade??
- ARTHUR AND BUSTER ARE IN SEPARATE CLASSES ???? WHAT?? 😭 NOOOOO
- “I guess I should’ve brought my lucky pencil” oh NOOO 😭
- buster clinging to his horseshoe in fear as he walks in the opposite direction of mr. ratburn’s class...aww...
- OK UHHH I DO NOT LIKE MRS. GRIMSLID SHE’S MAKING BUSTER SO UNCOMFORTABLE LIKE GO BACK TO THE GYM AND LET BUSTER BE W/ ARTHUR IN MR. RATBURN’S CLASS 😭 SHE MADE HIM TAKE OFF HIS HAT!
- kevin is chill. i like kevin
- samir is adorable!! i love his card tricks aaaa
- this girl who speaks italian tryna flex 😂😂 i can’t
- they put “dora” on dw’s name tag rip
- dw’s teacher is so cute,, they have the same name,,
- A;LEX IS SPEAKGFIN???
- ALEX HASN’T SPOKEN IN LIKE 23 SEASONS. THIS IS HUGE.
- “i love the drawings. they’re so detailed” i love how alex’s comic has better art than this animation 😂 seriously oasis??
- jenna and brain staring at alex and arthur as they talk abt the comic: 👁👄👁
- “you and i have been in the same class for years, but we’ve never really had a conversation” breaking the fourth wall lol
- i know it’s a terrible recolor but i like mr. ratburn’s new suit!! the color of the tie looks a little out of place but other than that it’s v nice!!
- pls someone save francine from getting tortured by tommy tibble that is a fate worse than death
- I CAN’T?? REMEMBER ANOTHER TIME WHERE WE SAW BOTH OF MOLLY’S EYES THIS CLEARLY?? this episode is making history
- MUFFY PAN AND TINKER BAILEY ARE GIVING ME LIFE
- “learning directions is very grown up, i just use an app” relatable
- IM SOBBING ARTHUR’S HAVING AN IMAGINE SPOT WHERE HE CREATES A PORTAL INTO ANOTHER DIMENSION W BUSTER -
- THEY’RE HOLDIGN HANDS AHHHHHHHHH
- THEY’RE TRYING TO HOLD ON TO EAHC OTHERS’ HANDS BUT THEY CAN’T OH NOOOOO
- arthur got separated from buster and he’s holding onto his lucky horseshoe 😭
- 86 year old arthur is married to 86 year old buster and is just pulling 9 year old arthur’s leg about not knowing him. fight me
- ”I don’t want any other best friends. i want buster!” okay but this isn’t the first time this has happened. arthur has these anxiety-induced imagine spots whenever he has the slightest idea he might lose buster as his best friend and vice versa. these boys care about each other so much 😭
- the tough customers creating “project icebreaker” was so wholesome i rly love how in the newer seasons the writers gave the tough customers way more depth, they’re not really bullies anymore but i kinda like that
- emily and muffy bonding at the end was actually p wholesome...i wonder why the writers really didn’t have them interact before. it really does seem like they’d get along.
- alright i’m dying to know if they’ll still be in third grade in the next episode 😂
#meg watches arthur#no matter what season it is arthur episodes always have the same core message to them and the same relaxing atmosphere#it hasn't changed in 20+ years#and that's why i'll always love arthur

Illicio 21/?
Part 20
"Jon? Did you- oh!" Martin's voice says above them. Gerry looks up at him, taking in his slightly confused smile. "What's happening?"
"We're planning a garden, apparently," Jon says before Gerry can respond.
Martin's eyebrows arch, and his mouth forms a little 'o' of surprise. "That sounds lovely actually."
"Any requests?" Gerry asks. It's a bit ridiculous how happy this makes him, that the two of them just... hopped into his dumb idea. It feels hopeful, like they too want to plan for a future together.
Martin rests his chin on his crossed arms on the windowsill, and gives them a smile just the slightest bit mischievous.
"I think we should plant lavender."
XXI
Martin doesn't wake up with a start. His heart isn't hammering in his chest and his breathing isn't shallow and hurried; his nightmares are not the kind that makes you feel in danger, the kind your body wants to wake up from.
They're... gentle.
Calm walks down into a soft grey expanse where he knows nothing can hurt him, because he is alone asides from his thoughts, and the sadness that permeates his every step.
He guesses it must show somehow when he's dreaming of the Lonely, because he usually wakes up to Jon or Gerry's gently concerned voices, and a hand nudging at his shoulder until he decides it's time to come back.
Funnily enough, it's the lack of those what does it this time; if neither of the two is waking him up, that means it's one of those rare, blessed nights in which the three of them were able to sleep, and they're going to be pretty sad if they wake up and find that Martin dreamt himself into the Lonely.
He wants to think they'd be at least, even if it's a bit selfish.
It's with that want that he opens his eyes to the darkness of the bedroom, and he turns to Jon with a slow-spreading smile when he hears him muttering something about a cat in his sleep. He doesn't Watch people's nightmares on the nights Gerry feeds him, and it's nice to know he's just having a regular dream. It feels... normal. Like what Martin wants the rest of their lives to be.
He looks over Jon's shoulder, to see how Gerry's doing, and his stomach flips when he notices the man is not in bed with them.
It's okay, it doesn't have to be something ominous, Martin thinks. His heartbeat is speeding up now though, as he climbs off the bed and investigates the empty bathroom, before risking the rest of the cottage. People go for midnight snacks, that's a normal thing to do. Even if Gerry doesn't get hungry, he still likes to eat.
He jokes and says it makes him feel like a person, though Martin thinks he's the most human of the three of them, whenever he watches him hold Jon in his arms, looking down at the man like he's surprised he's still there, and the soft light of the cottage projecting a golden hue over his dark hair, making Martin's hands itch for a notepad and a pen.
His stomach knots tighter and tighter over itself, when he moves down the corridor towards the kitchen, and finds the entire cottage is encased in darkness.
"Martin?" a voice asks from the pitch-black kitchen, and Martin jumps, his chest flooding with the mix of exasperation and relief that has become synonym with Gerry in his mind.
"Why are you in the dark?" Martin asks, his voice soft. It feels important, for some reason, that they don't disturb the silence too much. As Martin's eyes get accustomed to the darkness, he can make out Gerry's form against the far end of the kitchen, his hair messed from restless sleep, his face tired, a steaming mug in his hand.
"Don't need it to see," Gerry whispers back with a shrug. "Why are you up?"
Martin makes his way over to him, leans on the counter by his side. It's hard to say if Gerry's radiating warmth, or if Martin is just too cold. "Nightmares."
"...Ah. Sorry." Gerry reaches over to place his mug on the table, and turns to face Martin. "Are you- I could make you a cup of tea. Can't promise it'll be any good, though."
His tone is genuinely apologetic, and Martin feels his lips curl into a smile. "Well, you had to be bad at something, didn't you?"
"Is my lack of tea-brewing ability a deal-breaker?" Gerry's voice carries the hint of a smile now, and his fingers brush against Martin's on the counter. "I'm willing to take some lessons, if that's the case. I happen know the perfect teacher."
"It apparently isn't a deal breaker, because you're both hopeless at it." It's mind-blowing, to think they're just... here.
Alive, standing at the kitchen in the middle of the night, the scent of coffee curling around them like a blanket as they make quiet jokes about a relationship that they haven't discussed, but that is somehow there anyways. The tension of looks exchanged over Jon's head, of brushes of skin that feel loaded with electricity and the knowledge that the other will be there, steady and reliable like the sunrise every morning.
"Well... the offer still stands, or if you want some of my coffee-"
"I shouldn't." Martin shakes his head. "It gives me anxiety, and I was hoping to go back to sleep."
"Oh." Gerry looks sideways and up at him, looking at a loss of what to do. Martin finds it endearing; of course Gerry can't deal with the thought of not fixing something; can't even fathom the thought that just his presence is doing wonders to ground him. "Can I do something, then?"
Martin looks down at him, at the faintest gleam of moonlight that comes across the dusty windows -they need to clean that before Jon takes it upon himself to do it- to only insinuate the beautiful mix of blue and green of his sweet, concerned eyes.
"You could kiss me, Mister Keay."
The embarrassment of being so blunt is more than worth it, when Gerry's eyes fly wide open, and a surprised chuckle escapes him, almost sounding like it was punched out of him.
"I- would that help?" he asks, but he can't keep the smile off his lips and Martin is so taken by the sight of him that he nearly leans down to do it himself.
"I think there's one way to find out." Martin smiles.
Gerry's hands are careful when they finally land on him; one on the back of his neck, one on his cheek, just like he's seen him touch Jon a handful of times before they kiss. Martin's heartbeat speeds up, and he might be drunk on the feeling already, the thought of being wanted almost as intoxicating as its counterpart.
He lets himself be pulled down, lets his face be tilted to the side, and the hand on his cheek pushes his glasses up his forehead so they don't get in the way.
It's a bit poetic, to kiss this ghost of pain and ink and love under the quiet glow of moonlight, and know that the only lonely thing in this kitchen is the mug of coffee cooling on the table.
They separate slowly, like waking up on a lazy morning, and Martin's wet lips tingle with want and with the weight of words it's far too soon to say.
"Did that help?" Gerry sounds cocky and pleased, but also a little bit breathless, and Martin rolls his eyes as a wave of warmth washes over him.
"You know, I'm not so sure," Martin taps a finger against his chin. "We might have to try again to confirm."
Gerry laughs quietly, probably to avoid waking Jon up, Martin thinks, and the words threaten to spill from his lips again. "Well, we have to be certain, don't we?"
-------------------------------------------------
"She knew these were not her children, and this was not her home. But they kept calling her mum, and there were many, many pictures on the mantle showing the happy life they lived. Feeding the ducks at St. John's, having a picnic by the lake, playing at the beach, practically every moment of their life documented in carefully crafted snapshots. She did not remember having a spouse that captured those moments either, but surely the pictures couldn't be lying to her, could they? She'd had a bad night's sleep, she was confused, and she needed to make breakfast for her children, what kind of mother would let them go hungry? She swore she'd never be like her own." Gerry readjusts his arms as Jon shifts on his chest in seek of a more comfortable position, and he reaches forward to kiss the crown of his head before continuing. "She started breakfast as she usually did, eggs on toast, and two slices of grilled ham, one for her and one for Dusty. Her hands stilled over the sizzling pan as she contemplated the name that felt so natural in her mind but that didn't fit with the reality she was currently living. She had two children, a house, and a lovely spouse with a lens for a face. She did not have a playful little mutt with ash-colored fur and a long lolling tongue, always with a chewed up stick by his awkardly large paws-"
"So what you're saying is you can escape the fears with the power of quiche and the power of puppies?" Martin asks, his voice tinged with amusement.
"That's exactly what I'm getting from it too, Martin, thank you." Jon snorts, and Gerry squeezes him in retaliation before looking at Martin. He finds him by the window, sitting at the little table they dragged there, with a notepad and a steaming cup of tea before him.
"Don't encourage him, that's how you end up having to pull him from coffins and alternate dimensions."
"In his defense, it was hardly his fault that he got hit on the face with that bat."
"See? Martin knows when things are my fault, that one wasn't."
"The coffin was definitely your fault, though." Martin points at him with the spoon he used to stir some sugar into his drink. "Is this a mixed one?"
"It definitely sounds like it. Spiral, Stranger, Eye... I'm thinking it's the house itself." Jon shifts some more on his chest to look at Martin too, before squeezing Gerry's forearm. "We'd known if someone would just finish the statement."
"So demanding." Gerry rolls his eyes.
"The hungry, hungry Archivist," Martin mutters under his breath as he blows on his cup of tea, and Gerry snorts over Jon's offended 'Martin!'. It's- it's good to see Marting feeling comfortable enough to joke around. "Sorry, sorry! Finish it, I didn't mean to interrupt."
"Don't apologize," Gerry chuckles. "Where was I?"
"The power of puppies," Jon grumbles.
"I'm going to stop feeding you, sir."
----------------------------------------------------------
"You should treat me to lunch or something, I've been sitting on a bus for eleven hours," Tim groans as he stretches his arms over his head to pop the kinks in his back.
"That's kind of your fault though," Martin chuckles. His shoulder feels cold where he bumps it against Tim's, a reminder that none of them really escaped the Institute intact. "You could've come through Helen."
"And miss the chance to feel like a regular human being? Martin, please." Tim bumps his shoulder right back as they walk down the main street. The little town is quaint and quiet, picturesque in a way Tim knows both Martin and Jon are suckers for, which he supposes is good enough. Martin deserves to end his story in a place like this. "How have you been?"
"Hm? Oh, we've- we're doing well. It's- it's good. We're good." There's a spot of color to Martin's face when he smiles, and Tim rolls his eyes. "What?"
"You've really got the worst taste in men, it explains why you were never into me."
"I hope you'll be able to forgive me," Martin laughs. "How are things back home?"
Tim shrugs, shifting the cardboard box he's carrying to support it on his hip instead. "It's going. Elias is still nowhere to be found, not that the police are really looking for him anyways. Basira could probably find him, but she's got other things to worry about now."
Martin lets out a slow exhale, his shoulders growing a bit heavier. "Still no luck with Daisy?"
"She knows how to find her just fine, and Daisy's leaving a trail of dead avatars that's pretty clear to follow even for regular people." Tim sighs as well, running a hand through his hair. "Daisy moves too fast though. There's no way to predict where she's going next, she's not following any pattern."
"Yeah... Jon said as much. He's tried- he says the things he Sees in her mind make no sense, it's all impulse and instinct, nothing logical that he could understand."
"That sounds about right," Tim mutters. The thing that broke out of Daisy's skin, that launched down the tunnels in a clash of claws and fangs and blood along with the other two... he doubts there's much human thinking going on with any of the hunters right now. "I suppose it's not too bad as long as she's only hunting avatars, isn't it?"
"I don't know," Martin says quietly. "I don't- things don't feel as black and white anymore, if you ask me."
Tim snorts.
"Some of your best friends are avatars?" He asks. Martin arches an eyebrow, giving him a pointed look, and Tim feels the teasing smirk on his face turn pleased instead. "Yeah. Okay."
-------
The place looks nice enough, a little stone fence with a wrought iron gate and a path made of stepping stones leading to a door whose blue paint has long since chipped and faded under sun and wind and rain. It looks... inoffensive, a little slice of the countryside to escape the chaos of the city, or whatever terrible plans your eldricht monster of a boss has weaved for you. Cozy and warm and welcoming, a place where one could make a home.
Martin pushes the door open, and Tim freezes at the very familiar scent coming from inside.
"...Tim?" Martin turns back to look at him when he doesn't follow him in. "What's wrong?"
How to explain it to Martin that nothing is wrong, or rather nothing he can put to words?
He remembers this smell, and the last time he felt it, the sound of rain spattering on the windows, and a movie on the background. He remembers teasing (back when he thought he was healing, that maybe one day there would be more to his life than just mourning his brother) about feeling like he was being set up for something, and then the hurried announcement and yes, don't be ridiculous, of course I'll move to the Archives with you, does that mean I have to call you boss now?
The thrill of being a safe space for someone, even broken as he was.
"Tim, are you-"
"Martin? Did you bring- oh." Jon stops just short of actually stepping out of the kitchen, looking at him like he's a ghost and the Desolation inside him burns, though whether it's Jon's sorrow or his own that he's feeding off of is anyone's best guess. "I'm- hi."
I hate you. I miss you.
"Hey," Tim pushes through a dry throat. "You- you made barg?"
Jon nods slowly. "I understand, if you don't want to eat with m-"
"It would be very stupid, though," interrupts a third voice, and Gerry's stepping out into the living room from somewhere deeper into the cottage. "You'd have to go all the way back to town to find yourself a sandwich or something. You look like crap, but I guess a long bus ride will do that to anyone, even fear avatars huh?"
His voice is somewhat terse, and Tim wonders if he can feel the hurt in Jon's voice just as intensely as Tim himself can. The air in the room grows heavy as every eye settles on Tim, waiting for him to reply.
"I'm- yeah. I think I'll ask Helen to give me a ride back. I can stay in her for a while to make it up to her," he says finally. Things are never going to be the same. Tim doesn't want them to be the same. The friendship they shared once was rooted in pain too, but this is different. "I could eat something, I guess."
-----
"I'm- I brought some statements," he says later that night, after they've had dinner and cleared the plates away.
"Oh?" Martin arches an eyebrow where he's dropping an armful of blankets and a pillow on the sofa.
Tim averts his eyes.
"I just- I know you have other ways to feed now, but I thought it would be a good idea to keep your boyfriend from running dry too soon." He can feel their eyes on him, but he keeps his gaze on the little radio on the table by the window. "We don't want you going out to hunt random people."
"Thank you, Tim." Jon says quietly, carefully. Tim doesn't have to look up to guess Jon isn't looking at him either, or the small lopsided smile.
"Hm," he says. "Dinner- it was good. Thank you."
-------------------------------------------------
"Gerry? Martin wants to know if- what are you doing?" Jon's words taste like surprise and laughter, like warm honey, like so many emotions Gerry has never had aimed at him before, and that feel like coming home. "You've got dirt on your nose."
Gerry looks up to find Jon leaning out the open window, looking down at him with bright eyes and a brighter smile. He's suddenly very aware of how he must look, the aforementioned dirt on his nose, and his hair done up into a messy bun to keep it out of his face, kneeling on the ground with a pile of badly pulled weeds by his side.
"I'm- I've never had a garden before." Gerry shrugs. It's not so much the words he's embarrassed about, but the implications. Like painting the door, like oiling the gate, building a garden is not something one does for a temporary place. "I just thought it would be fun to try- whoa, careful!"
He reaches up to hold Jon's forearm as he all but climbs out the window and comes to crouch down by his side.
"Have you started thinking about what you will plant yet?" Jon asks. There's not a hint of compulsion in the question, despite his eyes lighting up with the eerie green of his powers. "Maybe a raspberry bush, carrots... some potatoes later on?"
Gerry snorts. "Did you just use the Beholding to Know what veggies we could grow?"
"It's high time it was useful for something." Jon shrugs, giving him a coy little grin. When Gerry reaches over to pull him against his chest he comes easily enough, laughing. "You're going to get dirt on me."
"Get used to it." Gerry presses a kiss to his cheek. "I love you."
Jon turns his head then, to kiss the corner of his lips. "I love you too," he says.
The words pour into Gerry like warm water over a sore muscle, and they settle in his chest right where his heart should be, bright and warm and so sweet with emotion that Gerry can't bring himself to answer in any way other than squeezing Jon tighter against his chest, burying his face in Jon's mess of soft dark and grey hair.
-------------------------------------------------
"I thought you were done with the pining, sir," Gerry whispers into his ear, the grin clear in his voice.
Jon merely smiles and moves along on the sofa to make some space for him, before he turns back to look at Martin.
He's practically nose-deep in the old transistor radio they found back at the toolshed, his sleeves rolled back over his forearms and a streak of dust across his forehead where he scratched absentmindedly a few minutes ago.
"I'll give it to you, it is a nice view," Gerry adds. He's got no regards for subtlety of course, and Jon smiles wider as Martin's cheeks flush a little, though he keeps his gaze stubbornly focused on the inside of the radio. "Are you sure you don't want us to get a new one?"
"This one is perfectly good, thank you." Martin rolls his eyes. "It just needed some cleaning."
The satisfied smile on his lips when he flips the switch and the speakers crackle to life is a memory Jon will treasure for a long while.
"You continue to surprise me, mister Blackwood." Gerry chuckles. "What are we listening to?"
"I don't really- oh, this is good." Martin smiles again when the radio picks up a frequency. The music is somewhat static-y, but still recognizable as some old 70s rock. The tempo is fairly upbeat and cheerful, and Martin bounces a leg to it. "The silence was starting to get to me."
"We can't have that," Gerry nods solemnly, climbing to his feet. "C'mere."
"What?" Martin chuckles, but his hand comes to rest on Gerry's offered hand as the song picks up in rhythm.
"I'm asking you for this dance, sir." Gerry grins and pulls him up and against him in a twirl that has them tripping over each other and stumbling to regain their balance.
Jon smiles softly to himself as he watches them fall into step with each other, laughing all the way like a couple teenagers that have had one too many beers.
Gerry leans up to kiss a freckle on Martin's cheekbone, and Martin's eyes slide over to pin Jon, brighter than ever and making his heart skip a couple beats.
Jon stands no chance when large hands wrap around his wrists to yank him to his feet, but realistically, he wasn't really going to put up much of a fight.
'You can't dance and stay uptight' indeed.
-------------------------------------------------
"It just doesn't make too much sense, if you ask me," Melanie says. She's not terribly worried about it, but it's been on her mind for a while now. "Jon feeds from you now, Helen has me or Tim in her corridors sometimes, I don't think I've ever seen Tim feed... I thought these things forced you to hurt people. Like the Slaughter did with me."
"I don't think anyone really knows, firecracker. The entities don't come with a manual, no matter how many old idiots have tried to write one." Gerry taps her knee softly with something cold and hard, and Melanie wraps her hand around the cider can. "Jon still has statements sometimes, so he and Helen are still feeding off of other's fear. My best guess is that Tim is feeding the Desolation with his own."
"What's Tim afraid of?" Melanie arches an eyebrow, taking a sip of her drink. It's both sweet and tart on her tongue, a good contrast to the bowl of salty chips Gerry placed on her lap when they came to sit at the garden.
"Jon, mostly," Gerry grunts. "Or rather, Jon mourning the way he was before. The Desolation is about sorrow and loss too, and those two have enough of that."
"Wow, I didn't know you were still so bitter about him ruining your first date." Melanie hides her grin behind the can; she can practically see Gerry rolling his eyes from the scoff he gives next.
"I think I'm allowed to be wary of an avatar of the Desolation holding a grudge against Jon."
"Or thinking he does."
"Or thinking he does," Gerry agrees. "What I'm saying is- I don't think even the avatars themselves know how this works, asides from 'feed your entity or you'll have a bad time'. What Gertrude and Dekker knew, what I thought I knew- even what the Eye lets me Know now is very limited when it comes to this."
"What about Martin?" Melanie asks.
"What about him?" Gerry asks right back, his voice careful. Melanie rolls her eyes.
"Does he feed too?"
"Not quite," Gerry says quietly after a moment. "He's neither here nor there, you know? Lukas forced him into the Lonely, but then he chose it himself. He's like Basira, or you when you had the bullet, only there's nothing to pull out of him to fix it."
The disappointment at this fact is clear in his voice, and Melanie remembers once again the kind of person her friend is.
"I'm sure having you helps." She shrugs. "All of us, I suppose."
Including herself in it feels weird, but right. Georgie's laugh comes through the window, mixed with Jon and Martin's quieter chuckles, and a crackly radio playing old classic rock. The garden smells like moist dirt and the cool, crisp highland air, and she can hear Gerry digging around with what she guesses must be a spade.
"I wanted to kill you when I first met you, you know?" she blurts out. And now I'm here sitting with you while you work on your dumb little garden, she thinks, but doesn't say.
"I did get that impression, I don't know why. The knife, maybe." Gerry chuckles, and his spade thuds on the ground before he comes to sit against the wall with her, bumping their shoulders together. "I'm glad you didn't."
"Yeah." Melanie goes to take another sip of her cider to soothe her suddenly dry throat. She knocks her foot against Gerry's leg. "Yeah, me too."
-------------------------------------------------
What with his mother, his general insecurities and the whole 'comiting to the embodiment of loneliness' thing, Martin has had very few opportunities to live with people in his adult life. He's surprised to find that he likes it, despite the constant itch of frustration coming from the bits of the Forsaken buried feel within him.
There's something to be said about hearing Gerry whistling to himself as he works on the garden, or waking up from a nap to the scent of whatever Jon is cooking for supper.
There is notoriously less to be said for stepping on a wet towel at four in the morning when he's just trying to go into the bathroom to pee.
"Gerry!" he snaps, trying to keep his voice to a whisper because even if Jon isn't asleep or even in the room right now, it's four in the morning.
"Martin? What happened?" Gerry asks a second after, his voice just the slightest bit shaky still, which Martin would take pride on at any other time. "Are you okay?"
"Why do you insist on leaving your wet towels on the floor?"
"...Oh. Sorry?" Martin can practically hear Gerry's sheepish smile. "In my defense, I mostly lived in motel rooms?"
"Yes, and then you lived with Jon for like seven months." Martin rolls his eyes, straightening back up. "I'm going to have to do something about it."
"Oh, are you? What will you- oompf!" Gerry's low, teasing voice is cut short when the balled up damp towel finds its mark, and Martin closes the door to the bathroom with a satisfied smile.
-------------------------------------------------
"We should start thinking of what we're going to do, I think." There's something to Martin's voice when he says it that gets Gerry into high alert mode immediately, which is a bit ridiculous, considering they're standing in front of the produce rack at the farm shop while Jon chooses some vegetables.
"About what?" Gerry asks.
"Well mostly I-" Martin stops and clears his throat. "I just-"
Martin stops again, this time with a little chuckle that sounds more nervous than amused. Jon turns around, eggplant in hand and eyebrow raised questioningly.
"Martin?"
"This is probably the weirdest way I've asked 'what are we?' in my life," Martin says after a couple seconds, shaking his head with a smile. "But mostly- are we staying here? At the cottage, I mean."
Oh.
"We can't keep living off of our savings, and I somehow doubt Elias is going to keep paying me and Jon a regular salary," Martin continues far more casually now that he got past the initial awkwardness, seemingly unaware of Gerry's brain blanking. "It does get a lot cheaper with the two of you not needing to eat, but I should probably try and get a job to, you know, feed myself and the like. I guess my question is if you'd rather stay here or go back to London or...?"
Gerry feels his eyebrows raise as what Martin is asking slowly rains down on him. It's- it's one thing to entertain his normal, boring life fantasies, and another one completely to hear someone else voice them.
"Hm. I suppose we do have to return to London eventually, to help look for Daisy." Jon taps his bottom lip with the eggplant's stem. "Whether we stay there or not is another matter entirely, I suppose. I don't really have a preference, Gerry-"
"The carrots won't be ready to harvest until next year," Gerry blurts out when they both turn to look at him. It feels important, for some reason.
These past three months have been a dream, so pleasant and calm Gerry has caught himself thinking on more than one occasion that maybe- maybe he's done, and he can rest now, here at the end of the world with these two.
Maybe he's earned this.
Jon and Martin are still staring at him, the former's eyes are gleaming with something that looks like fondness, and the latter's got a hand up to hide his grin.
"I mean- we can go wherever-" as long as they're together, that is, but he's not about to say that, not after using carrots as his excuse. "Just-"
"He does have a point, Martin." Jon interrupts him with a shrug, coming closer to slot himself under Gerry's arm.
Martin nods sagely. "We can't just leave the carrots."
"Stop," Gerry snorts, shaking his head as Martin comes to lay a kiss on his forehead. I guess that's a yes on the job hunting, then. I could try to get something too."
"Huh." Martin blinks, and his shoulders shake with a little huff of laughter. "Gerry, I think you might be the one person on earth whose CV could look worse than mine, even with the unverifiable previous job."
"What a blast of an interview though, can you imagine? 'It says here you haven't had a job since... Pinhole Books around ten years ago?' 'well yes, I was off stopping terror rituals and killing people, and then I was dead for four years, but I got better.' "
"I think I'd hire you just for having the guts to lie like that," Jon says from under his arm, before accusingly pointing the eggplant at Martin. "And your previous job is hardly unverifiable. I actually think your previous boss would give you a sparkling review."
"The one you killed after he put me in a nightmare dimension?" Martin asks, an eyebrow arched and his lips curled into an amused grin.
"I'm trying to flirt with you, sir," Jon deadpans. His voice has the light, tangy aftertaste of his bittersweet jokes, and Gerry squeezes him a bit against his side.
Martin's grin turns pleased as his face colors slightly, which makes Gerry smile when he realizes Martin was just fishing for the confirmation.
"I could give you a recommendation letter too." Gerry tangles his fingers in Martin's free hand. "Martin Blackwood? Overqualified for any job you throw at him, his only areas of opportunity are the occasional arson in work premises and the fact that he's very bad at keeping people out of his office."
"Certain people," Martin says, butting his forehead against Gerry's with a smile.
"You two are ridiculous," Jon chuckles. "Let's get home already."
Home, the word rings in his chest like a bell, like the heart he wasn't given back but feels the pull of at every waking moment.
"Yeah. Let's go home."
-------------------------------------------------
The creature -it is shaped like a human, but the hunter knows better, can smell the monster in it- squirms and thrashes in its jaws, though what end it hopes to achieve is a mystery to the hunter, because the only thing it gets for its trouble is for said jaws to clench down tighter around it, until yellowed, long fangs pierce skin and stain red.
It tastes like dirt.
The hunter despises the taste of dirt, and even more so the feeling of it sliding down its throat, far too evocative of another time, another life that might as well have lasted forever, were it not for the prey it let escape, that for some reason came back and clung to it as tightly as the hunter now clings to its newest victim.
Deep down in the hunter's chest something sparks to life at the thought, the memory of thin hands pulling at it even as pointed stones dug into their skin. The prey has a name, or at least it used to.
The hunter shakes its head, trying to rid it if the useless, confusing thoughts.
It too had a name one day, but that does not matter now. It is the hunter, and what it does is to chase, to kill.
It lets go of the broken body between its jaws, just as another scent drifts into its nose.
The hunter changes tracks, and starts the chase again, leaving behind any thoughts of previous prey, named or not.
Jon sighs, blinking the black and white and red of Daisy's vision away.
It's nothing new, he had an inkling of what he'd See even before he looked, but it still hurts. With each day that Daisy passes under the thrall of the Hunt her mind grows more and more distant, far from any reach they could have.
They need to go back to London soon. Between himself, Basira and Gerry, they might be able to pin Daisy's location before she bounces again.
It hurts. Jon is more than aware that after so much fighting to become something else, what dragged Daisy back into the pit she promised to not to return was her fondness for him.
The darkness in the room recedes a little when he opens his eyes again, the green glow casting eerie, menacing shadows out of every unassuming object, like trying to convince Jon he's not the most dangerous being to ever sit in this living room.
Down the little corridor come the sounds of Martin's soft snoring and whatever it is that Gerry's mumbling in his sleep, and Jon sighs. The tape recorder still runs somewhere in the living room, waiting perhaps for a declaration.
"I'm- I'll breach the topic with them tomorrow." He says in the end. Talking to the tapes has always felt grounding. "We just have to find Daisy, and then we'll be free to come back here for however long we want."
For the time being... there's no use in worrying, Jon guesses.
Out the corner of his eye he catches Martin's notebooks on his little table by the window, and he feels his lips arching into a smile despite himself.
They've come a long way from Jon fishing out discarded poetry from garbage bins, he thinks to himself as he pulls one of the notebooks. Thankfully, Martin has said he doesn't mind them reading his things as long as he isn't in the room, so this will make for a nice distraction.
"Good things", Jon reads aloud from the page he opens at random, which he notices has a lot less crossed out sections than the others. Apparently Martin found his words pretty easily after a few stumbles at the beginning. "You'll- you'll have to forgive me, Martin," he tells the recorder, chuckling. "I've never had a voice for poetry, in my opinion. But I'll leave it to the jury to decide."
He clears his throat, holding the notebook open with two fingers, Martin's neat, tight handwriting illuminated in green.
'Good things, by Martin K. Blackwood.
There is something interesting to be said About things that come in threes.
Like coins in a fountain rings to a circus, or stars to Orion's belt, Like three acts parts to a story that is not finished yet.
Why is it that three's a crowd, yet Good things come in three's? People always say hello, Jon. My apologies for interrupting whatever it was that our mutual acquaintance managed to sneak this into, but I thought it better to let her arrange the delivery as she saw fit.
Hopefully this finds you alone; I shouldn't speak ill of a gift from our patron, especially with how well he served his purpose, but as useful as he's been in keeping you alive and encouraging you to develop your powers, your dear Gerard is quite adept at getting in the way, no doubt he gets it from Gertrude. Though I do suppose I should stop underestimating Martin by this point, shouldn't I?
I must admit, I neither expected nor wished to watch him walk out of the fog with you. It is far too late in the game for unwanted variables, but by this point I suppose I must simply sit back and hope that the Mother's blessing is enough to keep him out of my designs.
By this point I suppose you have attempted to stop reading, I don't recommend it, you will only hurt yourself. I thought your little retreat had lasted enough already, and you could use some help getting back into the flow of work.
Let us begin then, just one more, for old times sake.

While this episode wasn’t as big of a hit as episode 60, overall most viewers still enjoyed the content and are looking forward to more next week!
amazing amazing! I'm so delighted with this season so far!
Im so beyond pumped i love everything
Dissapointing but acceptable.
I’m like angry I loved it so much.
I just wish we didn't have to wait a week
It was amazing. We all gotta apologize to MAPPA for ever doubting them.
It's a huge stepdown from episode 1. At times the animation was straight up painful to watch. My expectations were low and yet I'm still disappointed :/
WHICH OF THE FOLLOWING WAS YOUR FAVORITE SCENE/MOMENT? 349 Responses
Reiner-centric scenes were the highest on people’s radar, with 24.9% of respondents enjoying his reunion with the warrior cadets, and not far behind, 22.9% enjoyed Reiner bringing up the 104th at the dinner table. In third, with only 13.5%, was Pieck and Porco’s formal introduction to the audience.
Hearing Zeke greet his grandparents with such happiness warmed my heart. I do believe that he loves them.
They just had to add one last image of Ymir's broken face before she died, huh? :(
WE FORGOT TO ASK LAST WEEK D: WHICH OF THE FOLLOWING SCENES/MOMENTS FROM EPISODE 60 WAS YOUR FAVORITE? 348 Responses
Last week we forgot to include what your favorite scenes were. The scene from episode 60 that got the most favor was Reiner’s, “I’m sick and tired… of walls” with 33.6% of the vote. 16.7% most enjoyed Zeke’s titan transforming scream. 14.9% were hyped about Reiner and Porco wrecking Fort Slava.
MAPPA WENT ALL OUT WITH THE CINEMATOGRAPHY IN THIS EPISODE. WHAT DID YOU THINK OF THE CINEMATIC PANS AND ROTOSCOPE ANIMATION? 349 Responses
Overall, a total of 74.5% respondents have positive feelings about MAPPA’s use of rotoscope animation and camera panning. Some felt like it was akin to watching a movie, while others are just happy to have the dynamic movement. A smaller amount of respondents didn’t have feelings one way or another, and a minority (about 10.3%) really are not a fan of this type of animation style for the series.
It felt odd sometimes as they used it for long scenes (like Udo talking or Gabi telling the story to her family) but overall it was pretty great and I prefer it to WIT's stale animation during season 3
I liked the more dynamic movement during dialogue, but my roommate found it super awkward and off-model. So a fifty-fifty split in a sample size of two lol
It could have been animated better, but I like the extra dimension it gives to scenes
Enjoyed it a lot! However, there were a few scenes that felt a bit off, like some frames were missing. Specifically, when Udo was doing all those gestures while talking with the rest of the Warrior Candidates.
It felt dynamic to the point of looking unnatural - some gestures and expressions just moved wrong
i'm split, in some scenes it was great (like reiner waking up), but in the dialogue scenes the constant movement seemed kinda unnatural and distracting
It was amazing but at the same time I'd didn't look fluid enough, especially at Udo's mouvements which made the character look kind of...video game-ish in constant moving.
I thought it looked great the rotoscoping, the movements all looked amazing
The animation during Urdu’s scene is so cool! I was caught of guard at first though lol. It’s so realistic!
NOW THAT WE’VE GOTTEN TO HEAR A LITTLE MORE OF THE NEW OST TRACKS, HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE SOUNDTRACK SO FAR THIS SEASON? 344 Responses
So far, reception to the newer music is overall positive. 31.1% are really enjoying the music and think the songs are being used immaculately, and 40.4% really feel that the song choice compliments the scenes they’ve been used in. 13.1% think the songs are good, but miss having that sole Sawano feel to them. 10.8% just feel the music is “ok” and 2.6% aren’t a fan of the new OST tracks so far.
I mean it sounds good, but we haven't gotten to important moments that require a memorable track, so we'll see!
First episode slapped because it really complemented the scene but it's more... generic. I didn't like how it was used in this episode, there wasn't enough of it and again, generic. I miss Sawano's unreal scores.
the animation absolutely blew me away, and i love the intense music that played during Reiners monologue
The music is fine.
I've heard both new and old songs from the previous seasons. Still too soon to make an opinion as we need to hear more.
I am deaf, I can't hear no damn soundtracks
That music guys when they came back to Liberio and reuniting with they parents, made me tear up but also because the scouts never had the chance to go back home with victory in the arms of their family, I wish I could have seen EMA like this.. It kinda felt unfair X) but I was happy for them nevertheless.
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE CLOSEUP OF ZEKE’S MOUTH? 346 Responses
Our first of probably too many crack questions in this poll, 32.7% thought the closeup of Zeke lighting his cigarette was cool looking. 21.4% are concerned about Zeke’s lung health. 19.1% are probably annoyed with us and simply don’t care (lol). 13.3% wouldn’t mind smooching Zeke, and 11% were just plain grossed out.
Does smoke even affect a titan shifter? Surely his lungs just heal themselves
ASMR for the eyes, right there. Aww yiss
It was awesome! Zeke is shown as relaxed person with a big drop of mystery.
Smoking Bad but he is gonna die in a year anyway
Suuuuuuucc
It might've just been an artistic choice to include it in there, but i gotta say I'm oddly fascinated and idk why
I don’t remember it lol
I didn't even notice.
Zeke looks hotter than he has ever looked
WHAT’S YOUR OPINION ABOUT ELDIAN ASSES? 341 Responses
Most of the responses seemed to feel rather positively about Eldian asses, with almost 40% seeking out Zeke’s ass wiping technique. About 17% simply stated their appreciation for them, while almost 13% are just thirsty. In contrast, a little over 17% seemed confused to the question’s inclusion and about 10% were confused outright.
MAPPA WHERE IS PIECK'S ASS
More into Eldian thighs, really
I bet Levi’s is nice
If only Eren had one
zeke has the energy of a straight man who doesn't wash his ass
Only Shadis' ass
GIVE IT TO ME 😏😏
They are like normal, human asses. Do not turn them into some magical, special snowflakes, just because they belong to Eldians.
Seek help
Enough
DO YOU WANT REINER TO GIVE YOU A HEAD PAT? 343 Responses
A definitive majority, almost 59 percent, openly expressed enthusiasm for the prospect of a head pat from Reiner. However, a near 30% fraction of responders didn’t seem too happy about this recent chain of less than serious questions. We’re sorry about that. 😅. The rest either didn’t seem interested in said prospect or noted they wouldn’t care either way.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE DECISION FROM MAPPA TO CONDENSE REINER’S FLASHBACK INTO (PRESUMABLY) A SINGLE EPISODE? 346 Responses
It would appear that the majority of those who took our poll express cautious optimism at the prospect of seeing all (or the vast majority) of Reiner’s backstory being adapted into a single episode, with a near 47% supporting the move, thinking it could make the narrative “more coherent”. Almost 20% argue it would work better pacing wise. On the flipside, just over 17% state that they would rather have a more accurate adaptation to the manga. 11.6% simply say they have no opinion. There were also more than a few write-ins.
I do wish everything could be animated to full detail, but pacing and structure will benefit here
They've done a good job so far, so I'll reserve judgement until I actually watch it.
It will be difficult as they're chapters with loads of dialogue, but they can pull it off if unnecessary stuff gets cut out or changed in some type of way (like watching Marcel's death for the sixth time, them breaking through the wall or even Jean and Eren fighting)
If they get the pacing right, then the rearrangement will be for the better.
Reiner flashbacks + Reiner suicide attempt + Falco meeting "Kruger" (more than 2,5 chapters) in a single episode? HELL NO! WTF MAPPA!
Worried and cautiously optimistic.
At least it looks like they're going to stick to just one episode for the RBA flashback. It was mostly just filler anyway, so there was never any need to stretch it out and waste precious time getting back to the Paradis side of the story
I doubt that that's exactly how it is, but if so, then I don't think that that's a wise idea
It’s gonna be rushed as hell
Reiner flashback is very long and there is tons of dialogue, so I dont know how its going fit in only one episode, but if they can make it work then its fine for me
WHICH CHARACTER DESIGN DID YOU LIKE BEST IN COMPARISON TO THE MANGA? 346 Responses
This question gave us a somewhat evenly split pie chart, but Porco nonetheless managed to gain the bigger piece with just over 55%. Surely due to that bomber jacket and haircut. Nearly 45% picked Pieck (gottem) instead. Must have been the somewhat inconsistent nose.
WHO’S SEIYUU DID YOU LIKE BEST? 335 Responses
On the flip side, 68.4% seemed to prefer Pieck’s soft voice. Porco with his (how the hell does Porco sound like… how can you describe his voice) managed to win the hearts of 31.6% of responses.
Pieck voice wtf? I imagined Pieck with a more Hanji-ish voice, not this sweet and high pitched.
DID MAPPA DO PIECK’S NOSE JUSTICE? 345 Responses
The debacle over Pieck’s POWERFUL nose gave us quite a colorful pie chart. Almost 39% of responses noted that Mappa was on point with Pieck’s nose for most of the episode. Afterwards, 26.7% stated that they thought that Mappa got it right only in some points of the episode. On the flip side, another 26.7% thought that Mappa was generally quite on point throughout the entire episode. A small minority (7.8%) thought that Mappa simply did a poor job.
The animation is good, and while I don't want to complain, I have a small problem with the drawings themselves. I feel like they lack precision (like Pieck's nose, idk if that's clear).
I'm grateful for Pieck's nose. I always respected Isayama for drawing imperfect characters, because this way he has made them to look more realistic. Even though Pieck has so-called imperfect nose, she is still absolutely gorgeous. Her imperfections are part of what makes her beautiful and unique.
PORCO’S HAIR - WERE YOU TEAM RED HAIR OR BLOND HAIR? AND ARE YOU HAPPY WITH HIS ANIME COLOR SCHEME? 345 Responses
A far less controversial debacle concerned Porco’s hair scheme. The folks supporting a Blond color scheme were universally content with his hair color (all 57.4% of team Blond). On the flip side, an almost universal approval was also present from team Redhead (13.6% of those supported his blond hair color). 27.5% of the responses seemed to care not about this issue at all, however.
NOW THAT WE KNOW PORCO BETTER IN THE MANGA, DO YOU THINK HE WOULD HAVE *ACTUALLY* DONE A BETTER JOB THAN REINER IF HE HAD INHERITED THE ARMOR AND WENT TO PARADIS? 348 Responses
Porco inheriting the Armored Titan is a rather interesting what-if scenario. Perhaps of the most interesting as a whole, so it’s no surprise to see a rather divided opinion of those who took our poll. A little over 36% believe that Porco doing a better job than Reiner on Paradis is a definite possibility. Just over 24% believe it’s not likely Porco would have done better than Reiner. On the flip side, 21.6% think that is is likely Porco *would* have a more successful conduct on the island. 9.2% believe that Porco’s success is a given and in opposition to that, 8.9% think that Porco’s success would have been basically impossible.
HOW ABOUT IF PIECK HAD GONE TO PARADIS WITH THE WARRIORS? 346 Responses
Much less division here, however. 70.5% of responders believe that Pieck’s possible trip to Paradis (in the initial attack) would have not have resulted in a given “mission success” for the Warriors, although she would have been a rather useful ally. Nearly a quarter, on the other hand, think that Pieck’s inclusion would have ended the story right then and there. The rather small minority of the other responders think that Pieck would not have been useful had she participated in the mission.
GABI HAS ALWAYS BEEN A CONTROVERSIAL CHARACTER. HAS MAPPA BRINGING HER TO LIFE CHANGED YOUR FEELINGS TOWARD HER? 342 Responses
64.6% of respondents overall have positive feelings toward Gabi as of right now, with 39.5% having already been enjoying her character throughout the manga. 25.1% now view her more positively with her being brought to life. 20.2% don’t really care about Gabi either way, and 11.7% feel very negatively toward Gabi, without the anime swaying their opinions.
Gabi still sucks
Sakura ayane as gabi is probably the best thing to happen to me all year
WITH SUCH A DIALOGUE-HEAVY ARC, CUTS WERE INEVITABLE. WHICH CUTS WERE YOU DISAPPOINTED IN, AND WHICH CUTS CAN YOU LIVE WITH?
Overwhelmingly, the scenes that were most missed by manga readers were “Pieck walking on all fours/scaring Porco”, “Zeke mentioning the Ackerman Clan”, “Reiner’s smirk when his family talks about ‘Island Devils’”, and “The imagery of Eren and Armin wrecking ships”. Smaller character details, such as Reiner mentioning how he acted like Marcel on Paradis, Gabi wishing to understand Reiner’s feelings, Falco pointing out how Reiner almost had the Armor taken from him, were also very missed by manga readers, although just less so.
General Calvi talking about Zeke’s loyalty, Gabi getting praise from her parents when they reunite, and Magath trashing the Marleyan navy, were moments that many respondents didn’t feel strongly about one way or another, or felt that these were details that weren’t really needed anyway.
Cutting the scene where Falcon talks about why Reiner kept the AT was really bad. Also the table scene could have been better. Some imagery when Reiner was describing the 104th and his smirk.
The cuts the anime has done made the spectators less informed about some story background stuff. This is in order to direct attention to the marley's eldians planning how to overcome the world's disparagement towards the power of the titans.
I'm sad they cut the gate guards. They humanize the marleyans a bit. Hope they add their scenes next episode and do them justice.
I hope we will get the Gabi/Reiner talk about understanding each other through PATHS when she eats him next episode
Gimme crawling best giiiirl
MAPPA cut Pieck's ass so this episode wouldn't be so ass centered with Zeke's ass wiping technique. This is my theory lol
Great episode but U was so looking forward to the Reiner scene talking about Paradis “devils”. In the mange it was a powerful scene really adding to the duality of Reiner and the pain he has, and the animation did not do it justice. Plus some parts of his speech were probably hard to understand for a non mange reader without the flashback. (Like which one is referring to Jean for example). I really wish it had been better delivered
IS THERE ANY CHANCE WE’LL SEE SOME OF THESE CUTS ANIMATED IN A LATER EPISODE? 342 Responses
them into different scenes. Overall, the majority answered a big, fat, “maybe.” 15.8% are confident that what’s done has been done, and 12.6% are more optimistic that MAPPA will find a way.
Overall I was a bit disappointed. I feel like the amount of material cut from every conversation included really added up overall and gave it a very rushed feel to me. I really hope they add it all in later.
ON THE FLIP-SIDE, WHICH ADDITIONS/CHANGES DID YOU LIKE/DISLIKE?
The changes and additions that MAPPA made were overall viewed very favorably, with the scene of Porco and Pieck interacting with the warrior cadets being the most liked addition. This is followed closely by the overall character movement during dialogue scenes, the small detail about Pieck’s father being unwell, and Gabi shouting “Watashi!” on the train.
I loved the additional details made it very emotional
IT WAS A GREAT TIME TO BE GALLIPIECK TRASH
Sneakier Eren's a nice addition too
Porco my boiii I'm so happy he's here 💖💖💖💖 if mappa is adding some extra scenes then gimme more of gallirei 👀
WHICH SCENE FROM THE PREVIEW ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO? 338 Responses
Unsurprisingly, 42% of respondents are hyped about Kenny’s brief return and Annie’s unlikely encounter with him in the Underground. 22.2% are eager to get that sweet Reiner angst as he is rejected by his Marleyan father. 17.8% are looking forward to Reiner’s training days.
ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS ON THE EPISODE?
great! it was inevitable they would cut stuff but it hasn't changed any major plot point or thing i would want to see desperately
It was just really great to see the scenes animated, it adds another level of depth and understanding to the story I believe.
Loved anime-onlies missing Eren completely. Some even thought it was him but then noticed the leg and thought against it
I think it was very well done. Just need a little getting used to with MAPPA on the reins now. I think MAPPA added some scenes to show how those Eldians over there are still just human after all and they have their own problems to deal with. 8/10 episode.
I feel like they took a lot of emotion way from reiner. made him seemed stoic and determined to go to the island even though in the make he looked scared about having to return.
I thought the rotoscoping was really well done! I’m happy with the pacing, the fact that the episode felt like it went by fast is good considering it was dialogue based.
Incredible. The direction, the cinematic quality, we are feasting. MAPPA is elevating the story beyond anything I could have imagined! I'm beyond hyped for the rest!! But where is asshole Marley guards/Hobo!Eren's appearance as a favorite moment?!
Incredible, it adapts the source material very well while adding some touches that make it unique in it's own way. As a manga reader, I'm really glad that they're doing this because it feels like a completly different experience from reading it and makes me excited on what changes or directing choices they're going to make during the course of the season, great job so far MAPPA!
Such an amazing episode. Made 20mins feel like 5. MAPPA is doing fantastic. The characters have never felt more alive and the animation style is something I never knew I wanted until now.
I can't believe they didn't cast Mads Mikkelsen to voice Mads Mikkelsen
The episode was good but the dinner scene didn't do justice to the manga. It didn't have the same feeling to it. I saw a lot of anime onlys thinking Reiner was just trying to talk shit about the 104th. I feel like the flashbacks during that part in the manga gave it a nostalgic feeling that helped convey what he truly felt about his time on the island. His facial expressions were not quite there either. Specially sad because it was the moment I was expecting the most this episode and because it's a big part of Reiner's character, maybe next episode can kind of fix this.
I haven't seen the anime only poll results, but given personal conversations with them I imagine quite a few could care less about the Warriors and are looking forward to the 104th showing up to stir shit up. Boy are those folks in for a treat :)
I knew I'd feel more attached to all of them once they got animated. I didn't expect getting real thirsty for Lainah.
I was so happy with how much detail MAPPA put into the background scenery. Also, I think that an underrated moment during this episode was the Marlian douchebag triggering the Eldian soldier’s PTSD. You could really feel their terror, and THEY KEPT THE HOBO EREN PART IM SO HAPPY!
Its consistently very pretty and well animated which is great of course, but I worry the team won’t be able to maintain this quality for some of the meatier scenes in the later episodes. The fast pace of the episode (compared to the manga) as well as the many cuts make it a bit harder for scenes to stick, I wish there was a bit more breathing room at times. This also makes the fancy animation and frequent rotoscoping cuts feel less impactful for me—with every scene being cut down to its core ingredients, and every scene having at least one cut with more motion and energy than we’re used to, I can’t help but feel it all kind of mashes together without sticking out as much, leaving less of an impact. (I feel really really weird actually complaining about good camerawork/animation, what the hell lol) Also hobo <3
Plenty of questions about ass but no questions about the full ED? Or how we thought the episode did at hiding Eren in plain sight?
rip Reiner's chocolate abs :'(
The episode wasn't as interesting as the first one. I was yawning from time to time. Yet, I think that Mappa did a great job, because it's hard to animate full of dialogues chapters. I was disappointed of the fact that flashbacks from Paradis have been cut. I hoped to see Sasha, Connie, Ymir and Marco while Reiner was speaking about them. Without the flashbacks we just got the dry speech and this way hard to say what Reiner is really thinking about people he met on Paradis. We - as manga readers - already are aware of his feelings, but anime onlies may not know and see Reiner as cold hearted person. I'm not complaining over animations or the OST tracks because no studio is perfect and some small mistakes here and there won't destroy my fun. I just sit and enjoy the episode.
Very good, with the exception of the dinner scene, in which the director missed the mark completely with the tone.
