couldn’t stop thinking about eternally 12 palace master shen yuan from this @rarepears post so here he is

he is none too pleased that all of his disciples are taller than him, also he is like a hundred years old could the rest of the sects stop treating him like a child? he’s old enough to be most of their grandparents, more than if you count that he was 22 when he died!

no binghe here but if i end up doodling more of this i will probably draw him scooping shen yuan up a-la how sebastian scoops ciel (like a doll or cat who weighs practically nothing and with little regard for whether he actually wants to be held instead of walking)

Remember the old Palace Master was nice to binghe (literally gave him a place to live in Huan Hua Palace no questions asked, started the trial against Shen Qingqiu on Binghe's behalf, tried to marry him to his daughter, etc) as a means to groom him and Binghe was so disgusted he cut off the man's arms and legs.

It's actually insane that people who criticize bingqiu go "binghe was groomed! He's a victim!" Like.. yes he is! You're right! And Shen Yuan is the person who fought Binghe’s groomer while Binghe was helpless, and protected him! Shen Yuan is the person who gave him love and safety Binghe longed for!

Luo Binghe is kind of an orphan, but he also has SO many deadbeat, dead, or creepy parental figures or technical parents, it's SO funny to me. He only actually wants, like, two of them in his life.

The washerwoman: adoptive mother. Loved her and misses her to this day. Only mother he cares about.

Unknown potential miscellaneous caretakers between the fishermen finding him in the Luo River and his adoptive mother taking him in. SOMEONE had to nurse this kid if he wasn't actually adopted by the washerwoman immediately.

Su Xiyan: birth mother. If anyone told him about the "set adrift in a river" thing, he probably assumed for most of his life that a birth parent left him for dead.

Shen Qingqiu (Shen Jiu): teacher and master. If Shen Jiu didn't give Binghe a lot of his issues, then he definitely made them worse!

Shen Qingqiu (Shen Yuan): teacher and master. The "can't I look at what I raised?" is there and cannot be taken back, and it does just get weirder from there. No, I don't think Shen Yuan would be thrilled about being on this list at all.

Meng Mo: teacher and portable grandfather. This demon had to talk Binghe into being his student and settle for not even being called "Shifu". Probably gives terrible advice.

Shang Qinghua: father to Binghe as much as he's father to everyone in this world that he wrote. Does NOT want Binghe to know this. Probably gave Binghe a lot of his own issues. Sure does give advice.

Mobei-Jun: demon mentor (arguable) and stepfather through the author father thing. Does not know this. Definitely gives terrible advice.

Huan Hua Palace Master: master of Binghe's birth mother, wants to be Binghe's father-in-law and is also using him as a replacement Su Xiyan. Threw Gongyi Xiao aside IMMEDIATELY to take Binghe in and put Binghe in charge of the Jin Lan City mission even when he wasn't an official disciple.

Tianlang-Jun: birth father. Sealed away before Binghe's birth and comes back to cause SO MANY problems.

Everyone has tried to get a rotor but Shen Yuan will only willingly be away from Wei Qingwei for a few hours before he starts getting fussy again. ALSO ALSO, I'm imagining Huan Hua Palace somehow managing to worm their way into a visit to Cang Qiong, and obviously the Old Palace Master is being all "oh, you're so 'righteous' but there's a demon just walking around?" Meanwhile, in the background, Gongyi Xiao (watched carefully by Wei Qingwei) is like tossing Shen Yuan up and down, in absolute adoration of the little giggly demon child. Both Yue Qingyuan and Old Palace Master turn around at the same time to watch Shen Yuan sitting on Gongyi Xiao's shoulders and braiding his hair as Wei Qingwei beams and chats to the Huan Hua Head Disciple. Old Palace Master is just 😨while Yue Qingyuan is already silently calculating how to get Gongyi Xiao into their sect.

the Jin Lan city arc is going to haunt my nightmares because it is genuinely the embodiment of one of my biggest fears/pet peeves.

Shen Qingqiu is stronger than me because what do you mean all of these people are yelling over you, slandering you based on a misunderstanding, and are twisting your words but you dont just start screaming and crying?!

if it were me, the moment the Old Palace Master opened his mouth i wouldve started swinging.

I imagine TLJ just skulking around the place for like funsies, while SY is giving a lesson to his disciples.

Cuz like we know the reason why TLJ hasn't tried to join the harem is cuz SXY be gaslighting him into thinking he's not into SY.

But like, let's say she's out on a hunt, and TLJ decides to lurk, just one day.

He overhears SY giving a lesson, whether that be a sword lessons or poetry whatever it is. Except the students are not behaving.

No one says that a person can only romantically love one person at a time! Tianlang Jun now realizes that he's into TWO people: Su Xiyan and her very hot MILF (Master I'd Like to Fuck to be exact). Disappeared into the ether, not even a year after Luo Binghe’s fall. Luo Binghe refuses to take that as an answer, though. He’ll find Shizun. In the meantime, he’ll keep building his reputation as a righteous cultivator at Huan Hua Palace. He’ll deal with the demons under his command, all flocking to him to complain about the assassinations carried out against them in the past months. And he’ll deal with the masked servant of the Old Palace Master that has been foisted upon him: Hua Xunshun.

SV AU where Luo Binghe answers Shen Qingqiu's "do you want power?" question differently, so Shen Qingqiu cannot mentally justify pushing him into the Abyss, and resolves to just let the System kill him instead. Even though he doesn't want to die, it's probably still better to just get yeeted out of his body than to be brutally dismembered after forcing his favorite disciple to suffer terribly.

However, the System picks up on this philosophical shift in the user, and begins to take counter-measures.

Without-a-Cure ratchets up exponentially. Around the same time, Luo Binghe discovers an ancient record in the libraries that claims some rare compound or other which can only be found in the Endless Abyss, is reputed to cure all poisons, even the most deadly spiritual kind.

When Shen Qingqiu is too weak to even attend the Immortal Alliance Conference, Luo Binghe initially plans to stay by his bedside. But then he overhears Shang Qinghua whispering about a mysterious plot with a being on the other side of a portal, about arranging a demonic invasion, and afterwards, his shishu mutters something about the Endless Abyss.

Luo Binghe returns to his unconscious master's bedside, and begs him to hold on for however long it will take, because Binghe will return with the cure.

By the time Shen Qingqiu's fever breaks, the Immortal Alliance has come and gone, and with it his poor disciple. What's worse, the whole cultivation world seems to have caught on to the fact that Luo Binghe is a demon! That wasn't supposed to come out yet! But without Shen Qingqiu to help shield him, his seal broke early and in front of more than a few witnesses. Cang Qiong has fallen under a lot of unflattering speculation for harboring such a "creature".

Shen Qingqiu supposes he should have known that there would be no escaping fate. And yet, even with the knowledge that Binghe will come back, and that this time he won't even harbor a grudge against his master for pushing him in, that -- in a sense -- Shen Yuan has been spared and this is probably the 'best case scenario', somehow it's not any easier to deal with. Especially not when he knows that his poor disciple doesn't even want the rewards that will follow after it, that he's suffering for nothing except the fickle mandates of some narrative destiny.

Also, he didn't figure out that Shang Qinghua is Airplane, so he has no fellow transmigrator to understand or help him vent. He's just alone in his knowledge, sickly, fretted over and grieving (not that he can admit the latter), while the sect whispers that the Xiu Ya sword is probably not long for this world now. If the poison doesn't kill him, perhaps his disgrace will. Cang Qiong's good name has been dragged through the mud, and Huan Hua Palace is looking to beat it down further. There are even some who claim that Luo Binghe must have been behind Sha Hualing's earlier invasion, and poisoned his own master because of it! Shen Qingqiu can't stand such talk, nor the pitying, condescending looks he receives whenever he tries to defend his disciple's character.

The writing is on the wall, however. If Shen Qingqiu won't die as a scum villain, the story seems to be planning to kill him off as the tragically deceased mentor.

Meanwhile Luo Binghe takes longer to get out of the Abyss this time. Not for lack of motivation, but because he needs to find his goddamn macguffin first! And then he has to protect it, and get both it and himself safely out of the Abyss! Which means he can't just rush through killing everything, he has to take his time to plan and prepare, even though he wants to rush through because every minute he spends in the Abyss is another minute where Shen Qingqiu could be dying.

When Binghe finally gets out, it's to find that the righteous sects, headed by Huan Hua Palace, are conducting a formal investigation into Cang Qiong Mountain, specifically into the allegations of consorting with demons and the corruption of the Qing Jing Peak Lord. He hurries to the palace to intervene, though by what means even he's not sure.

He arrives just as the Huan Hua Palace disciples are removing Shen Qingqiu's nearly-lifeless body from the water prison.

Just in time for the expected stirring final words of his old shizun, Shen Qingqiu thinks. Imagine his surprise when Luo Binghe force-feeds him a weird potion plus like a liter of blood. Binghe, this is not the dignified end that your shizun had planned!

I really would love an AU where Shen Yuan transmigrated as one of the young masters in the rich household where Luo Binghe’s mother worked.

Since we know so little about them, there is room for all sorts of familial drama:

Shen Yuan could be the only di-son, with older shu brothers that hope he dies.

He could be a shu-son whose common born concubine mother is favored more by the lord of the house than his legal wife, causing much bitterness and strife.

He could also be an orphaned nephew or cousin, brought into the household but considered a burden by everyone.

Any number of angsty CDrama plotlines could be going on!

Now while the original goods redirected his angst into bullying little Luo Binghe, Shen Yuan would do no such thing. He would do his best to help his favorite protagonist instead!

As I’m imagining him only being a year or two older than Binghe, his options for helping would unfortunately be very limited. He could tutor him in basic characters, ‘make’ Binghe eat his leftovers, give away his allowance, ‘declare’ Binghe his personal assistant, and other little things, but between his age and his family’s drama, he’d be frustratingly incapable of protecting Binghe from all his PIDW suffering.

As an added twist on the common fanfic formula, perhaps after Binghe heads off to Cang Qiong Mountain Sect, Shen Yuan tries to follow him, but his family interferes and he ends up shipped off to Huan Hua Palace (or perhaps some minor sect) instead.

His poor little sheep is suffering, and Shen Yuan is stuck in the wrong sect! If he’s at Huan Hua, then at least Gongyi Xiao is nice enough…

AU where Luo Binghe is actually Shang Qinghua's son. Shang Qinghua has a one night stand with hot demon lord Tianlang-Jun, and the system decides to change up the story to make Shang Qinghua pregnant with the protagonist. Because of this Tianlang-Jun eventually ends up with Su Xiyan, who does not die this time because she isn't pregnant. (She and Shang Qinghua can become friends and does not mind that he is carrying her lover's child). Eventually Mobei-Jun comes into the picture, upset that his servant has been seeing other demons (Shang Qinghua has to reassure him that he's still completely loyal to Mobei-Jun, it's just Tianlang-Jun is really good at the sex. For some reason this does not make things better). Mobei-Jun decides to be the best step dad and tries to out dad Tianlang-Jun (and hints how he could totally be a better lover than he was).

Meanwhile Shang Qinghua tries to avoid the death flags that comes with being the protagonist's mother, and it eventually comes to him being kidnapped by the Hua Huan Palace Master, but he is saved by his new family, Mobei-Jun+Tianlang-Jun+Su Xiyan, and maybe some of his sect siblings because they've learned to appreciate him (and maybe they're a little afraid that the sect might fall apart without him)

And they all live happily ever after!

(Years down the line when Luo Binghe is an adult, and the system decides to spit out Shen Yuan who is very confused with what happened with PIDW. Shang Qinghua is fine with his son falling in love with his favorite anti-fan because he knows no one will love him more than peerless cucumber does)
