one thing that's missing from these convos about amc not submitting assad zaman for a golden globes nom that makes it 10x more malicious on amc's part is that a nomination isn't just like oh... ~simple appreciation for an actor's performance. even if there's no win, it results in a profile boost for these actors & them being able to command a higher salary when it comes to future projects. it's something that gets notice on their CV. these studios and networks love being able to market their shit with things like "starring golden globe nominee john doe" or "emmy winner jane doe." the emmys are more prestigious than the golden globes which are more prestigious than the critics choice awards (the one they submitted him for with two other actors lol). actors get nominated and have the opportunity to get attention from social media posts, article mentions, attending the red carpet, having their name announced and a little clip of their acting shown. that's not nothing! attention from possible new fans, publications, execs, peers, producers, directors, fashion houses & other industries which could lead to $$$ and sponsorships. I won't make any presumptions about the cast's finances but I do know amc is probably not paying them their worth, least of all the bangladeshi muslim who barely had any major roles in tv/film prior to the show.

there are fees and costs associated with submitting for awards consideration and FYC ads. the network basically took a look at assad's brown skin and name and said they don't think he's worth the money over the white actor who had less screentime and narrative importance (to the season ig) which is absolutely crazy lmao. it shouldn't be controversial to say that and you can't not discuss this without bringing up sam's name. this has nothing to do with whether he "deserved" to be submitted (and even if I said he doesn't deserve it over assad who's gonna beat my ass?). this white man isn't being persecuted by conversations about blatant racism. but I'd expect nothing less from this fanbase x.

thought it'd be weird not to post a drawing, but i wanna get sentimental too my 20s were spent working. some school but mostly work. and living with my parents still which sucked. only in the last few months did all these big changes happen (quit my job, moved out, changed fursona lmao)

i dunno what's in store in the future, but i feel like my 30s are gonna be way better than my 20s. posting this to manifest that i suppose

I may have lost this painting when I quit my drawing programme, but I can offer a small writing snippet to accompany the WIP screenshot, so it's not all gone to waste:

“What are you painting?”

Tamara hadn’t heard Ockham come in, but the way the corners of her vision shift around her, harsh lines of light softening to a dreamy blur, she should’ve realised it much sooner.

“It’s the view from my bedroom balcony. In Varchas,” she says, choosing her words carefully in a tongue that still feels foreign and clunky.

Ockham squints, studying the painting with a furrowed brow, and the expression suddenly reminds her of her auntie. Tamara shakes her head, dismissing the illogical comparison. They clearly look nothing alike. They shouldn’t, at least.

Ockham’s hand traces along the line of a wall of mirrors, where it intersects with a planter containing long dead greenery, careful not to touch the still wet paint. She’s suddenly aware that the perspective on the planter is off, and makes a mental note to fix it as soon as she’s able.

“It is not a very nice view,” Ockham finally says.

Although it’s a somewhat rude thing to say, it’s not entirely wrong. There was nothing special or aesthetically pleasing about the view. She’d barely paid it any mind herself, in all of the years she’d lived and slept in that room. The part of her brain that had been slowly developing since she’d picked up this new hobby urged her to move some elements, give the piece stronger tones than the monotonous muddy yellow characteristic of Varchaasi evenings. But that would go against the aim of painting it in the first place.

“It is not a very nice view, no. But it’s the one I had, and if I don’t paint it how it was, I fear one day I won’t remember how it really looked like anymore.”

Ockham’s studying her now, and she wishes, not for the first time, that she had any insight into her flatmate and companion’s mind, whether it even worked the same way as a real person’s would. If Ockham would find her thought offensive.

“Ok.”

“Ok?” she repeats, confused.

“Ok,” Ockham nods, then moves away from the painting towards the door, “I go now on the market. Is there something not on the list that we need?”

She nods no, then catches herself and changes the motion.

“No, nothing.”

“Ok.”

Ockham is gone again. This time she hears the door click closed. With a sigh, she draws her brush across the canvas, determined to fix that planter before it cements itself as warped in her memories.

Usually I tap out on shark art for a little while after Sharktember, but there is a different shark themed art event in October called Sharktober that sometimes tempts me with really enticing prompts.

Day 1's prompt was fairytale, which (a) how do I not participate in this very specific overlap of interests and (b) inspired this Cindershark.

inky I can't BELIEVE I forgot I had this ask to answer. this is my among us shelf, among us was my gateway drug to healing my inner 12 year old boy and I ended up collecting a lot of random crew members because they brought me joy. so obviously I had to clean out a shelf and put together a mini garage for them to live in, they also get to have my mini foods and Make It Mini food/decor. and then my mom gave me some dnd minis for christmas so they get a corner of the shelf. and today I got my shadow the hedgehog lego set so now he gets a spot too!

Ironically, my tumblr dashboard's tendency to go fully and exclusively hater mode about fandom-related written works (claiming they're depthless and artless or universally/sweepingly stupid) is just as anti-intellectual as people who blindly consume media without thinking about what it means

If you Only focus on negative aspects of critique of this kind of fan work, and don't recognize the deeper symbolism or introspective qualities of the work and what it might be trying to say about the world, or even why the author might find meaning in things you find strange or off-putting, then you've effectively done the same thing as the guy who swears marvel movies are the best media of all time
