You can snorkel or dive here if you have your own gear, or rent equipment from one of the many rental shops near the park entrance if you don't want to bring your own suit or mask/fins combo along with you on vacation!

Koko Head Crater is another volcanic crater located in Hawaii Kai (which means "ocean view"), just north of Hanauma Bay and south of Waikiki Beach; this area has some nice hotels nearby if you're looking for somewhere quiet after spending all day exploring Oahu's natural wonders!

🌺🌋🌴Quarantine Quickies Day 67 - Making Magma 🌴🌋🌺 It doesn't seem that long ago that the lava flow from Puʻu ʻŌʻō threatened the town of Pahoa on the Big Island. I remember arranging with friends to go see the lava on a hastily-put-together trip to Kona in 2016. I flew over and we made the drive around to the lava flow off Kalapana. It was going to be a 4 mile hike out and a couple mile hike up the mountain, but we lucked out and were told by the ranger as we arrived that the flow had picked up steam and had just started to cross the access trail on its final journey to the ocean just dozens of yards away. We rented dirt bikes and pedaled our way out to the lava flow and were treated to an amazing scene. Lava was slowly coursing down the mountain on its way to the sea. You could hear it gurgle and pop as it made its way. The heat was almost unbearable. The next day I discovered that the hair on one leg had been singed off. Yikes!
