Important notice: 3700 years from today, Kohaku is born ! Literally on the edge of my seat, amirite?

Kohaku was born on August 8th 5723, a bit less than two and a half years after her older sister, Ruri, whom she would end up caring for as she became ill at a young age.

She was the first person born after the fall of civilization to join Senku's kingdom of science, when she was 15 years old. She remained by the core of the kingdom of science throughout the years long quest to find and defeat the forces of petrification, also becoming the first woman to walk on the moon (in Dr. Stone canon, needless to say) in October 5754.

I was gonna do art for this but the last neurons that managed my sense of time have finally rotted away, and so her birthday caught up on me, hence I am doing this little retrospective instead. Although I acknowledge that Kohaku only exists because they needed someone to keep Senku alive once Taiju got put in the figurative bus, and a pretty girl to put on the cover page after Yuzu left with him, I will keep pointing out how mutifaceted she turns out to be, likely as a result of just the sheer extent of her presence in the series. I could ramble about that for ages but you can just read the wiki for that. Now I pull a Sam O' Nella and say, I'll see you in two months!

• one book I started: Erebos, because a friend lent me the sequel and I wanted to reread the original first

• one I continued: discworld Pyramids - i think i need to just get the next one, this one's dragging o.o even though it's hilarious af! I don't even know what precisely my problem with that book is. Maybe it's too funny and absurd? Though the other discworlds are Like That too and I didn't have the issue... anyway I need to put it down after like each page so eh O.o

• and one book I read start to finish: Karl May's Old Surehand II, I never read any Karl May before but when i was once again struggling with Pyramids and saw that it was right there... It's somehow less racist than I expected from what I heard about it? Like, some surprisingly(?) progressive views about the land being stolen from the native americans, things like that. still pretty racist in places tho, and oh god the religious rants... and of course the language itself is ~a product of its time~. But all in all pretty fun read, well written storylines, I'm reading Winnetou (the actual first part) now, borrowed from my grandpa who's got the entire collection!

And I wanted to read a book (Running out of Time) because of this Insta Reel, the story sounds really fascinating and sb being basically dropped in a different time/environment from what they're used to sounds right up my alley - part of why i like SIOC fics so much - but of course now it's insta famous and unavailable in all the online libraries xD and the local library doesn't have it :{ oh well! goes on my To Read

(i say, with a harrowed look) it's old lore notes from like 2009-2010 that are very offensive and juvenile (even for early homestuck standards) and i believe were never actually officially released, just leaked? that hussie disavowed once they were public.

So. literally just because i remembered it does exist in the collection. and if you're all first time readers it should be um, noted, that they are considered bad and noncanon even by hussie.

as for why i say to activate the controversial content box after act 6, that's just because the few changes before act 6 it activates are just music changes. the first two are because a guy had a falling out, and the third because it was literally plagarised. all are (imo) worse and less iconic than what replaced them anyway. it's just so you don't accidentally catch those in their worse state. the SINGULAR piece of controversial content that it activates post act EoA5 (but BEFORE the end of the comic) is. the funniest rescinded joke in homestuck. (page 5723)

If you go to page 5723 of Homestuck on homestuck.com, you’ll find that this joke has been altered. Now Jane is feeling PEACHY!

This joke was apparently quite controversial when it came out (I was not yet in the fandom at this point). It’s obviously treading on sensitive ground, but I thought the execution of it made it pretty clear that it was poking fun at the sort of people who were really insistent that the HS kids are white.

Back in the early 2010s, there was a pretty common sentiment that people should only cosplay inside their race, with the exception that white people could cosplay light skinned anime characters. I remember this coming up in my high schools cosplay club in 2011. There was also an overlapping and fairly widespread “white as default” mentality about characters, where characters are white unless explicitly stated otherwise. As you can imagine, this had the effect of making it harder for nonwhite fans to cosplay (how many black anime characters are there, after all?). However, since the Homestuck kids are not explicitly white, there were fandom arguments about this. There was one Jake cosplayer that was apparently pretty explicit in his(?) opinion that nonwhite cosplays of the HS characters were inaccurate, although I don’t know the timeline for when that was happening and whether this Jake yelling no might have been seen as a parody of this person.

This whole shitstorm blew through before I entered the fandom. When I read it for the first time, it said ‘peachy’, and i only learned about this like a year later.

Day 178: Wednesday/Thursday June 28, 2018 - “Lease Up 5723”

Mixing June styled work days with packing up, and running webinars and moving out.  Lease is up, but the work never stops.   Big wins would include scoring another June webinar, surrounded with packing boxes, taking apart our ikea bed, and a completely Symp themed moving out party!  Singing for my supper.   Hard days - packing isnt easy - packing while working is even more hard.  This is the biggest burliest move since leaving Bellingham 5 years ago - if only we had Luke here to help!!!  This apartment was nowhere near as nice as that one - but it sure was a functional home - and one we’ll remember, of our two full years living in Mile High.  The cliche line is that it flew by....but it really didnt.  Seems like a forever ago that we’ve moved in here.  Suppose thats maybe my itinerant time warp.  We sure did clutter it up since those first few months on an air mattress with no furniture in this high ceilinging 3rd floor perch over the Parking Spot.  We sure will miss the spotty dottys - but with a deep sigh, and a little impatience, we’re getting ourselves up out of here and back to AZ.
