Would An Oricorio Be A Good Pet?
As you’d probably expect, that’s a complicated question. Oricorio have a unique ability to change their typing after drinking different colored nectars, which drastically changes their biological abilities and behavior. In general, oricorios would make pretty good pets, so long as you keep a close eye on what kind of nectar they consume.
Oricorios are small and incredibly lightweight compared to many pokémon, and would be a great fit (literally) for most homes. They are incredible charming, and the allure of their elegant dances is well known. Different oricorio styles are more popular and easier to find in some regions than others, but any style of oricorio can become any other style with the right nectar (Scarlet - Baile Style, Violet - Pom-Pom Style).
There is an interesting dissidence between oricorios’ moves and their capabilities described in the pokédex. Move-wise, oricorios aren’t very dangerous at all. Most of their moves make use of their dancing skills and flying prowess to batter enemies, though none of these are too much to worry about. Their most dangerous move is Hurricane, which blasts the target with hurricane-force winds and can cause confusion. When it comes to their pokédex entries, however, we see a different story.
Oricorios’ fire-type Baile Style has the biggest temper, their passion driving them to anger if given an order they don’t agree with (Ultra Moon - Baile Style). This style of oricorio can generate fire with their dancing, enough to “[bathe] opponents in intense flames” (Sun - Baile Style) and “burn them up” (Ultra Sun - Baile Style). Any Pokémon that can generate fire, especially if they have a bad temper, definitely raises eyebrows in our analysis. Pomp-Pom Style oricorios, by contrast, are always chipper and seek to cheer up anyone they see who is feeling down (Ultra Moon - Pom-Pom Style). Pom-Pom style oricorios can still pack a punch by electrocuting enemies with electricity they charge up by dancing. Pa’u Style oricorios are less dangerous, fighting with psychic energy (Sun - Pa’u Style), though they aren’t the most obedient (Ultra Moon - Pa’u Style). Sensu Style oricorios are said to summon the dead and curse enemies with their malice (Moon - Sensu Style), which is… something.
Really, all things considered, oricorios may deserve a lower score. They were really saved by their lack of dangerous moves. The nice thing about oricorios is that you can choose which style you would like to care for. If you’re concerned about fire hazards, avoid Baile Style. If you like your pet to be obedient, avoid Pa’u Style. It’s a pick-your-poison sort of thing. They’re certainly a fascinating pokémon, even if they may be a real challenge for many owners.

Pelipper mail!
A hula-dancing manual.
"Feel like you're always on a tropical vacation by mastering the art of hula."
I believe hula is a culturally significant type of dance to native Alolans and being taught such a thing takes time to master. And if I recall, the Pa’u style of Oricorio found here on Akala replicate this specific style.
However, I do not think a manual will be able to assist me in practicing this art, but perhaps there may be someone on the islands that may be able to give me more information regarding the dance.

Supergirl Pokemon Teams (2/?)
Alex Danvers (split Fire-type/Water-type): Cinderace / Ninetales / Oricorio (Baile-Style) / Blastoise / Poliwrath / Kingler. No pet pokemon; she’s all business.
William Dey (Normal Type): Lopunny (shiny) / Sawsbuck (Autumn) / Appletun / Kangaskhan / Wigglytuff + Worcester the Wooloo who is really just trying their best and happy to be invited
Nia Nal (Fairy/Psychic Type): Sylveon / Rapidash (Galarian) / Gardevoir / Togetic / Oricorio (Pa’u-Style) + Luna the Indeedee
#my original alex was all fire-type and it felt so over-powered#for the curious#she's fire-type because that suits her temperament#but she's water-type because that makes her a better fighting team in tandem with kara's steel/flying party#and there's a metaphor in there#also will's wooloo is level one it keeps getting stuck under chairs he is so patient with it#i don't know much about indeedee but i do know it's the feelings pokemon#and that is 100% nia's vibe#supergirl pokemon trainer au#tagfic#my fic#supergirl#cw dcu feelings

im very curious about my noivern. hes pretty different from other noi's I see- bat's (mine, i named him as a kid) fluff is pink, not to mention he also has belly fluff. his skin also seems to be a darker color but thats not much a concern. is he just an extreme variant? I did get him from a snowy part of the region..
Pokémon can come in various shades of their Standard colour, so Bat being slightly darker isn’t super uncommon. Same with the height, most Dragon-types actually never stop growing! The pink fluff though, now that is interesting. Could he have gotten the pinkness from an ancestor? Shiny Dratini/Dragonair perhaps? I’d say maybe a Pa’u Style Oricorio, but they don’t inhabit snowy regions. Really the possibilities are endless.
It could also be the result of Pinkan Berry ingestion. The pinkness normally wears off after a few days but, if the Pokémon eats them frequently enough for a long time, then it’ll be permanent.
Darker colours also tend to absorb more heat than lighter colours do, so this could very well be an adaptation to the colder climate that Bat once lived in. That would also explain the belly fluff as well, it’d help keep him warmer in the cold. Still doesn’t explain the pink though. Perhaps it’s a combination of two or all of these theories, no matter what, it’s definitely interesting!

Doodledex - #741 Oricorio
Probably one of the best (and most commonly used) examples of evolution in real life is a group of birds called the Galapagos finches. After their common ancestor arrived on one of the islands, they gradually spread throughout the Galapagos and adapted to new food sources on each island, creating species that evolved tough beaks to eat specific types of seeds, long beaks to get into prickly pears, and so on. (It somehow even lead to the woodpecker finch, which can use a stick to dig bugs out of trees, and the vampire finch which drinks the blood of blue-footed boobies using its sharp beak!)
Oricorio’s probably the closest thing we’ll get to this in Pokemon, since its type, disposition and dance style depends on the Alolan island it lives on, changing form to match the colored nectar it eats! For instance, if you’re on Melemele the Oricorio found there are all “Pom-Pom Style”, Electric-type cheerleaders that love to lift people’s spirits! On Akala you’ll encounter Psychic-type “Pa’u Style” Oricorio who help people relax with their gentle hula dancing, while Ula’ula has the flamenco dancing “Baile Style” Oricorio, which is a Fire-type known for its passionate moves! Finally, Poni has the graceful Ghost-type “Sensu Style” Oricorio that tends to distract enemies with its traditional Japanese (Kantonian?) dancing before putting a curse on them!
#pokemon#doodledex#oricorio#(quick fun fact: oricorio actually learns no stab moves matching any of its form-affected types...#aside from its signature move revelation dance!)#while i had to bring up the galapagos finches since they're the example of adaptive radiation everyone thinks of#they're actually not what oricorio's based on!#oricorio are actually based on another group of birds with a wide range of adaptations... the hawaiian honeycreepers!#(which are actually finches... while the galapagos 'finches' are more closely related to tanagers!#talk about irony...)#...well they look like one specific honeycreeper called the 'i'iwi anyways#it has a long curved bill for sipping nectar from flowers#and is also called the 'scarlet honeycreeper' because of its bright red plumage!#(which is probably why baile style seems to be used as the 'default' oricorio)

Pokemon au, what are the S.E.E.S members up too
akihiko and shinjiro got done here
yukari is a coordinator-turned-actor in the pokestar studios. she probably at least has a decidueye for archery jokes but i also like her having an oricorio, specifically the pa’u styled one.
fuuka’s one of those like, communications people they have in the ranger games. like she essentially relays mission information and reads the maps and stuff to rangers. she also strikes me as someone who has a chimecho or a clefable.
junpei does the pokeathlon and i really like the idea that he has like, a full eeveelution team?? like it seems really fitting for him and would cover an average range for battling in terms of types. also the idea that junpei raised a ton of eevee is just good too.
aigis is a robot designed to hunt down legendaries. she could fare well in battle as herself, however she’s got a rotom buddy that accompanies her.
on that note i love the concept that minato is actually just a latios that shifts human since he doesn’t like being alone but also he doesn’t want to be caught. he doesn’t have any pokemon cause. he is his own.
mitsuru is a gym leader and since all of these are dual typings bc thats more fun, i see her as psychic and maybe like, flying. she def has an altaria tho because of that fluffy coat. also she’s the heiress to kirijo corp which creates all the fancy new technologies like some of the regions have.
hamuko is a coordinator but she’s that brand of coordinator like wallace is in that her team is very pretty but with a few tweaks can be a competitive team. a mon i can see her def having is chansey both bc it’s cute and pink but also is also Very tanky and can not only be very hard to one shot, but also can self heal, making it a bit of a menace.
ken is an average coming-of-age trainer collecting badges and what not. he probably picked out a cyndaquil from shinjiro because typhlosion is hilariously nasty when it’s angry like a certain someone.
#ask tag#p3#sees#pokemon#before u ask who latias is if it isnt hamuko i have no answer for you#its just more funny if its just minato#zero--nero

Paloma has always found a strong interest when it comes to dancing, though it isn’t hard to see being an Oricorio herself. Outside of being an Oricorio, Paloma’s interest in dancing has always come from the much slower types of styles. Ones where you let go of your mind and your body wander, pushing Paloma to try Sensu and Pa’u Oricorio forms over the years with a lot of success. This ability to change forms and dance styles is something Paloma herself cherishes a lot, usually pushing her to bring both Pink and Purple nectar wherever she goes. These colored nectars allow Paloma to swap between these two forms to better fit the mood or situation. As much as she enjoys these two forms, she tends to avoid the Baile and Pom Pom styles whenever possible. It's not that she hates these other forms herself, but she has had little practice with using them in battle or dance. At the very least her younger sister Marcella is quite happy with these forms more energetic forms of dances, but this does make it hard to agree with her sister in some instances when the two are at odds with their dances. Someday there will be a proper chance to settle their differences and understands each other’s style, but for the time being the two will enjoy the dances they have practiced for years.
Character Artwork done by: @nataliesartprofile { Character belongs to ZiggyZackaryZigzagoon / alolan-adventurers }
Name: Paloma Age: 28 Gender: Female Species: Oricorio ( Sensu ) Type: Ghost / Flying Pokemon Abilities: Dancer ( When another Pokémon uses a dance move, it can use a dance move following it regardless of its Speed. ) Pokemon Moves: Revelation Dance | Mirror Move | Air Slash | Teeter Dance ( Hidden Moves: Feather Dance ) Pokemon Level: 42 Likes: Dance Teachings, Pokemon Battles, Interested Pokemon ( Paloma is very skilled in using her other forms for dancing, using this order to teach certain dances. Practicing her dances during a battle allows Paloma to use her form’s power and dance to dodge attacks and retaliate with her own moves. Even though more disruptive pokemon like to watch Paloma to try and mess with her, she’s much happier with pokemon who are generally interested in her dances. ) Dislikes: Pom-Pom Style, Pulled Feathers, Interrupted Dances ( Paloma’s dances focus more on slow and steady movements with her Pom-Pom form focusing a lot more on energetic movements. The fans Paloma uses in her Sensu and Pa’u style come from her own feathers which she encourages others not to pull forcibly or try to take from her. Being a calm pokemon who puts everything into her dances, Paloma can be rather annoyed when others try to get in the middle of her dancing unless it’s an emergency. )
Family: ( Mother ), Marcella ( Sister ) Occupation ( Job ): Dance Instructor Relationships: Pepper ( Loose Cannon ), Remington ( Marcella’s friend ) Personality ( Sensu / Pa'u ): Calm, Passionate, Teacherly ( Paloma is quite the calm pokemon, usually seeing each situation with a calm mind. With dancing being a strong part of her life, Paloma is passionate with showing her dance to others through all sorts of means. With the interest in teaching others some of her dances, she also extends her passion to hopefully rub it off on others. )

The four types of Oricorio will fly to different regions once the weather gets colder. The Baile Style will fly to Kalos and spend time in places such as Lumoise City or Shalour City. The Pom-Pom Style will fly to Unova and spend time in Nimbasa City or Castelia City. The Pa’u Style will actually fly to a different island in Alola and spend its time there. Finally, the Sensu style will often fly to Johto and spend time in Ecuteak City with the Kimono Girls.
