I need Yotha and Newton to face how they've factored into Faifa's trauma and pain. They've both acknowledged his trauma and poor coping skills and yet they constantly feed into that same feeling for him without ever acknowledging that they're the ones hurting him.
Yotha was healed by being told his mother loved him the most but Faifa has been thoroughly shattered by the knowledge that not only was he chosen for his love of other people but that he was abandoned because he was being fully left behind.
And then to hear even more, about how Yotha refused to share a room with him and now Faifa protects his own space instead and how thrilled he was to share a room with Yotha only to not even get to do that and how much Faifa just wants to feel loved by his family the same way he loves but never, ever gets because none of them see him the same way?
And that's why I need his family to face his real feelings. To see Faifa crying, to see Faifa shattered, to understand that it's not JUST their mother who hurt him but them who continue to hurt him, even if unintentionally.
Because both Newton and Yotha would be horrified to realize how much they're hurting their brother, I'm sure of it. And that's the worst part and has to be the hardest part for Faifa. That he knows they love him but they don't show him they love him and that makes it worse, that makes it easier to believe that people who love him will also hurt him, will also abandon him.
I want Wine to yell at them. I want Faifa to try to reassure them with tears in his eyes. I want Yotha to try to be righteously angry until Wine brings him down a notch. I want Newton to be remorseful and to have no apology good enough. I want them to hug their little brother and to remember him. I want them to comfort him and promise that he can be safe with them as well, that their family will make a place for him that they thought they had but never truly did.

I finally have time to read other people's take on Newton, Yotha, and Faifa's sibling dynamics based on the latest episode. Though it is true that Newton and Yotha should have known better, I am giving them a pass. Because once upon a time, I have been where Faifa is right now.
I think I said it before, but I am the youngest of seven kids with age gaps ranging from two to seven years apart. When you're the youngest, it is easy to be overlooked and constantly compared.
"Oh, you won a competition? Your brother/sister did it first."
"Why are you so weird? Why can't you be more like your brother/sister?"
"You need something? We don't have to get it new. I'm pretty sure your brother/sister has an old one you can use."
So, you do everything to standout. You do things to become independent of your older siblings' shadows. The worst part is that people began to believe that persona you have made, even those who are supposed to know you better.
As I grew up, I begin to understand why my older siblings seem not to care about the comings and goings of my life. They really thought I've got it under control. And because they also have their own problems to go through, it is easier to ignore the subtle hints that I might need some help too.
The song have it right, you get what you give. Even when there is love, even when there is care, if you don't verbalise and tell them exactly when you needed help, how are they supposed to know? They are not mind readers - and even though we hope that the people who claims to love us should be attentive to our needs, we need to accept that, sometimes, it ain't possible.
With Faifa always smiling, always telling people he is okay despite feeling the exact opposite, I simply cannot blame Newton and Yotha for not noticing his pain. I think part of it is because, they too, are trying to navigate their own feelings while another part is this hope that Faifa is truly as okay as he says he is.
But if Faifa was never honest with how he feels from the beginning, how would his siblings know? If they had never seen him in a state of "not okay", then what would their basis be to act and protect their little brother? If Faifa keep on accepting their mum's shitty treatment of him with a smile on his face, how would anyone know where his boundaries lie?
With Wine trying to nudge Faifa to be more honest in how he feels, maybe both Newton and Yotha would finally get to see where they made a mistake and hopefully, correct them at the end.
As I said in my previous posts, I really commend this series for a realistic portrayal of sibling relationships. Because even in this scenario, I can relate to any of these siblings.

I wanna do a meta on Yotha-Faifa-Newton because I get the outrage to some level but I also understand and relate to Yotha/Newton’s side…
They’re a year in to having a relationship again as brothers, just like Rome wasn’t built in a day neither is communication. And this just shows how severely their mother fractured their relationships, and to a certain extent continues to.

My favourite thing about the Faifa Yotha fight in episode 13 is how (like everything else about their characters) their upbringing really shines through.
Faifa was the first person to make sure Gun was okay. He was also the first one Gun went to when he felt unsafe. He asked him to take them home because he knew Faifa would respect him. Yotha likes Gun (probably more than he even realises) but his actions have made it more than clear to Gun that he is not Yotha's first concern (that isn't necessarily true, but Yotha has left Gun on multiple occasions despite him asking).
But Faifa always puts others first, almost to a fault. Which is why when Faifa asks, oh so gently, to explain why Gun feels hurt, he actually does.
Tumblr media
The line that really stands out to me is when Yotha screams "Gun is... not an object." Because yes! That's exactly the point. And yet Yotha talks to Faifa first, not Gun. He assumes that it's Faifa who made the decision. Because when they were kids they didn't get a say in who stays with mom and who stays with dad. He was mad at Faifa for the same reason he was mad at their mom.
Tumblr media
Both Yotha and Faifa are protectors. But Yotha thinks it's an offensive game. He needs to protect from someone- he needs to protect Fai from his mom, protect Gun from Faifa (or his nightmares), himself from love. There is an enemy and he is the sword.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Faifa is a sheild. To him it always has been defensive. He needs to protect Gun and Yotha to keep them safe, to stop them from hurting. He isn't fighting the problem, he is holding their hand and walking through it with them. He takes the time to understand their needs. And the only confrontations are ones someone else starts. (God I love him so much).
Tumblr media
So when Fai says this ("you've never taken care of him"), I'm inclined to agree. It's not entirely true, obviously. But it's about what Gun wants, and Gun doesn't need a sword.
Yotha realises he's made a mistake but he doesn't know how to fix it. I really hope he figures it out but it's not just "kiss and make up".
Ugh, I love them😭.

Honestly, Yotha and Faifa’s relationship is lowkey tragic.
They obviously care for each other — they obviously want to support each other — they obviously are glad they’re brothers and happy to be in the same grade, have similar friends, etc.
That’s all obviously. It’s clear in how Yotha asks Fai to be more selfish, how he worries that Fai will be taken advantage of, how he wants Fai to find someone who loves him, how he asks for Fai’s opinion on their mother.
It’s clear in how Faifa changes rooms so Yotha can get to know Gun, how Faifa stays quiet when their mom explained things because it needed to happen for Yotha, even in how Faifa cared for Gun until Yotha figured things out.
What’s tragic is that they don’t speak the same language. Yotha can’t find the right way to make Faifa confide in him — and Faifa can’t figure out how to reach out and ask for support.
Yotha tries to make sure Wine knows his brother’s boundaries, but Faifa isn’t conscious to hear that level of care.
Faifa cares so much about Yotha not hating him — a thing I don’t think Yotha could do — that he’ll sacrifice anything and everything to make sure Yotha can’t hate him.

my heart broke for faifa this episode :(
because while yotha was being reassured that his mother does love and want him, faifa was given a glaring reminder that the only purpose she sees in him is keeping the family together. his only use is to be the glue – their mother literally admits that if it was yotha that went, she would’ve risked the chance of forgetting the other two siblings entirely. that she loves yotha more than them.
and then she says that she’s leaving for good, and look at his face.
Tumblr media
that's the face of that shitty, terrible, bitter realization that he has lost his purpose to her, now. that he has been used and taken advantage of all this while. and that, at the end of it, he’s being thrown away, like a old tool that’s rusted over.
it's the face of regret, of contempt, of anger.
most of all, it's the face of conviction. of a certainty that says he will never receive the kind of love that everyone else does.
