Alright doll friends, this one is a bit out of left field in the context of my recent collecting activity, but I hope you'll indulge me--
In the life of a doll collector there are 'grail dolls' and then there are GRAIL DOLLS. For me this is one of the latter. "Laura the Debutante", the inaugural doll in the Franklin Heirloom Gibson Girl line, originally released in 1986. I found mailorder ad for this doll in one of my grandmother's magazines (Good Housekeeping or similar) in the late 80s and was completely captivated by her. I've saved that magazine page for decades (for convenience and to save me some rummaging the one shown here is borrowed from an ebay listing ;p). It's fair to say she was one of my main inspirations for becoming a 'serious' adult doll collector. I had long since given up on ever owning her, though; the dolls in this line held their value for an impressively long time, and the secondary market prices for the ones I want (there is another that still eludes me) have remained well out of my price range every time I've searched for them in the intervening years.
But then something amazing happened. I spotted yet another Goodwill auction with a closed box for the main photo (I will always check those from now on) and the specific-yet-vague title "Vintage 1986 Franklin Heirloom Dolls 22" Victorian Woman Porcelain Doll + Stand". The start bid was $6.97. I thought, 'Surely, it can't be...' but I clicked and IT WAS. So I bid. And I waited. And I agonized. And eventually...I won! With no counterbids. The shipping & fees were a tad ridiculous--as ever with Goodwill--but my final cost was still under $30, which I consider an incredibly good deal. Even now that she's actually here I can't quite believe it.
She isn't quite complete--she's missing her hair accessory and some documentation--but I don't care about those minor losses. As far as I'm concerned she's perfect. My original plan was to keep her in the box until I set up the spot where I want to display her permanently, but once I had her out to inspect her condition I couldn't make myself pack her back up again. She needs to be free for her magnificence to be appreciated. So for the moment she's an extremely incongruous addition to my 'big head/creepy eyes' display XD She doesn't fit over here at all, but once I bring my fancier 15" fashion dolls out of storage (Gene, Alex, various Tonners) she will queen over them all.

Such sad news to hear today. An amazing, and enigmatic actor someone who deserved to be called a star.💫
British actor Tom Wilkinson, best known for his role in The Full Monty, has died aged 75 💔Wilkinson, who became an OBE for services to drama in 2005, was born in Leeds - Yorkshire in 1948 and grew up in Canada and Cornwall before attending the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (Rada) in the 1970s.
In 1994, he appeared as Pecksniff in the BBC's adaptation of Charles Dickens's Martin Chuzzlewit. He is pictured alongside Maggie Steed.
Across an illustrious career spanning nearly 50 years, Wilkinson won a host of acting awards, as well as two Oscar nominations. He won a BAFTA for 'The Full Monty,' and he also appeared in 'Shakespeare in Love,' 'In the Bedroom,' 'The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' and 'Batman Begins', He won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his role as Benjamin Franklin in the 'John Adams' miniseries. A versatile actor won acclaim through decades of work in television and film and onstage. Recently he was reunited with his The Full Monty co-stars, Carlyle and Mark Addy, in a Disney+ series of the same name.
Who remembers this classic!
The original 1997 comedy about an unlikely group of male strippers in Sheffield won an Oscar for Best Original Musical or comedy score and was nominated for three others, including best picture and best director.
Wilkinson’s best roles. Here are his finest films, Lieutenant General Lord Charles Cornwallis was an officer of the British Army and one of the leading British generals in the American War of Independence.
Wilkinson played a British officer in The Patriot, a US film about the Revolutionary War co-starring Mel Gibson, Heath Ledger and Jason Isaacs. The film was nominated for three Academy Awards.
From The Full Monty to Michael Clayton: was a lawyer - Arthur Edens - in Michael Clayton film 🎥 co-starring George Clooney. Tom Wilkinson was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role for In The Bedroom in 2001, and Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Michael Clayton in 2007.
Wilkinson was winning acclaim again as a high-powered lawyer who has a breakdown in Tony Gilroy’s “Michael Clayton.” He was nominated for another Academy Award for his performance in that film.
In ‘Denial’, Confronting a Holocaust Revisionist in Court. Denial is a drama about a historian’s pursuit through the UK justice system by a Holocaust denier. It stars Rachel Weisz, Tom Wilkinson, Timothy Spall, Andrew Scott, Jack Lowden, Caren Pistorius and Alex Jennings.
On television, he played Benjamin Franklin in “John Adams,” James A. Baker in “Recount,” for which he was Emmy-nominated and Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr. in “The Kennedys.”
In Ava DuVernay's 2014 historical drama Selma, Wilkinson portrayed President Lyndon B Johnson. The film tells of the protest marches held in Alabama in 1965 over voting rights for African Americans.
RIP Tom Wilkinson 💔 1948-2023

"Another well-received speaker during the early months of 1925 was A.E. Smith. His presentations as head of the Ontario section of the Canadian Labour Party (CLP) at the Wobbly-controlled Port Arthur Labour Temple, the Orpheum theatre in Fort William, and the Fort William Auditorium focused on unemployment associations and the progress made “in forming educational classes in the East.” They were well attended. Once again, Fred Moore chaired the Fort William meetings. He used them to convince those in attendance that “the radical labour movements were converging towards ‘the day’ when a social revolution would bring about a complete change in system.” The main duty of a labour representative in Parliament, he contended, “should be to weaken, hamper and embarrass the bourgeois parliament.” The process of social revolution, described as a “grim business,” was but a “natural evolution.”
...
The activities of organizers from both the IWW [Industrial Workers of the World] and the CPC [Communist Party of Canada] caught the attention of regional politicians and traditional labour leaders, who began to voice their opposition to immigration and the flood of radical workers into the country. Not all of the attention was negative. The recent success of the Communists, for example, caught the attention of Peter Heenan, the Kenora Labour member of the provincial parliament (MPP) who had been elected in 1919 and again in 1923. Sensing a shift in provincial politics, he sought to tap into the CPC’s growing support despite having recently accepted nomination from the Liberal party. He was refused a meeting. Sensing an opportunity of its own, the CPC parachuted party stalwart A.E. Smith into Port Arthur to run in the riding of Port Arthur-Thunder Bay during the 1925 federal election. Smith and the CPC’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) chose the riding because both felt that the support from the Finnish lumber workers might well carry the day. His candidacy also received the support of the local Canadian Labour Party (no surprise, as Smith was president of the Ontario section) and from Alex Gibson and the Port Arthur Trades and Labour Council. Once more, Smith’s candidacy would reveal the mileage that the Lakehead left could get by attempting to occupy at least some of the political space normally occupied by the centrists.
Much of Smith’s platform reiterated the speeches he had given in the region earlier in the year. Local newspapers described him as eloquent, with even normally skeptical journalists suggesting that “oratory like his had not flown from the tongue of any speaker on the platform in Port Arthur.” Moreover, his politics were clearly enunciated. At the Port Arthur Armoury, for example, he addressed the crowd of 2,000 directly as a “deliberative assembly, a parliament of the people, who are the first factor … in political power.” Smith did well, garnering 1,363 of a total 9,068 votes in perhaps the best showing of any federal Communist candidate in the 1920s. Even the Port Arthur News-Chronicle described the election as the “Most Vigorously Contested in the History of Port Arthur.”
The CPC considered Smith’s showing a clear indication of its growing stature in the region. As Anthony Rasporich’s work reveals, “near majorities were in fact recorded over the Conservative, Liberal, and independent candidates in the south end polls dominated by the Slavs and Finns, and in radical rural pockets of Finns to the north and west of Port Arthur.” It is revealing, however, that he won only three rural polls by narrow margins, and that the Finnish vote was split almost equally among all candidates."
- Michel S. Beaulieu, Labour at the Lakehead: Ethnicity, Socialism, and Politics, 1900-35. Vancouver: University of British Columbia Press, 2011. p. 113, 114-115.

Hiii!
I would just like to say some things.
I wanna take a break from writing and focus on my life cause I'm really struggling.
So I'm sorry but im not gonna be writing a lot anymore and I also wanna set some rules.
I will not write ANYTHING THAT INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING: CHILD P, CHILD ABUSE, HOMOPHOBIA, RACISM, CHILD MURDER. (If you don't want me to write something, please tell me and I'll put it in here)
I will not make fun of someone's partner or someone In general (Evan Peters and Natalie, Gaege Gibson and Liv. Etc)
Im not going to write smut very often either but actual romance stories with some characters I made or characters that already exist.
I will still write smut if you ask and it goes with my rules.
If you have any comments or questions please don't feel bad or afraid to reach out. It helps improve my writing.
Speaking of, I wanna take this time to work on my writing and vocab. It's not very wide so I dont know what words to put where.
Please ask if you wanna help me improve or fix mistakes.
If you wanna hate, please do. We're all strangers and your words don't matter.
I will write for certain people based on the topic.
PEOPLE I WILL WRITE 18+ : Frank Woods, Alex Mason, David Mason (Section), Arthur Morgan, ANY Evan Peters character from AHS (NOT EVAN HIMSELF)
PEOPLE I WILL WRITE (not 18+):Frank Woods, Alex Mason, David Mason (Section), Arthur Morgan, ANY Evan Peters character from AHS, Evan Peters, Gaege Gibson, Kurt Cobain.
I WILL UPDATE ALL OF THE LISTS IN HERE.
Please if you want me to add more stuff to this ASK
I will still be active on tumblr but I really wanna go and delete all of my previous works and start over. I've almost been on here for a year and I'm so thankful for my followers and all the notes that are left on my posts. I don't care if it's 1 or 200 cause it means so much that people care just a little and I love them all the same. (I love them a lot)
I love u all soooo much and I'm so thankful. Bye!!
I may write COD MW2 in the future (Simon Riley👻, König, John MacTavish🧼 Etc. ) but I haven't played enough to really know how they act. So I'll have to do research to be accurate)
(I also wanna change my name, what should it be?)
#i mean it#Im sorry#PLEASE GIVE ME WRITING TIPS#kinda felt like boundaries needed to exist#i like the colors

pairing/character: Alex/Tommy, Gibson/Tommy
word count: 3842
summary: Ever since he was a boy he’s had trouble sleeping. He’d long ago resolved that he wasn’t insane, or mentally ill, or physically ill, for that matter. The latter two truths had only been verified after flushing thousands of pounds down the drain for a lab coat to tell him he’s just right-brained or some rubbish. He was as healthy as an underweight, sleep-deprived twentysomething with an addiction to smoking cheap cigarettes and consuming energy drinks could be. The only (small) hiccup was the other guy haunting his headspace for as long as he can remember, but like he said, that was only really very small.

summary: There wasn’t always water. Most of the time it was just dark, nothing around him, nothing touching him. Those were better. Nicer. They were easier to forget. When there was water he remembered.

File this one under "Museum Pieces." Once upon a time when vinyl records were the musical currency, music, and audiofile magazines wanted to find ways to provide readers a sort of audio supplement to go along with the visual experience their publication provided. So the "flexi-disc" was invented. What is a flexi-disc? Wikipedia defines it this way:
The flexi disc is a phonograph record made of a thin, flexible vinyl sheet with a molded-in spiral stylus groove, and is designed to be playable on a normal phonograph turntable.
And they worked, too. My favorites were a series of 27 titles to be found in subscriber-only issues of Trouser Press magazine, debuting in issue #69, dated January 1982. Adam Ant was the cover boy, and the first disc was by Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark. They're collectibles now, and, who knows? With the resurgence of vinyl, who's to say we won't one day see the flexi-disc return? Assuming, of course, that there are any magazines left in which to put them.
Here's the complete list of Trouser Press flexi-discs:
#1 1. New Stone Age 2. Bunker Soldiers – Orchestral Manoeuvres in The Dark
#2 1. Poster Boy 2. Medley: I Wanna Go Home/Miles Away/Tell That Girl To Shut Up – Holly & The Italians
#3 Life Without Buildings – Japan
#4 1. Blame The Weather 2. Tissue Tigers (The Arguers) – XTC

#6 1. Doll Hospital 2. Some Fun Now – John Hiatt
#7 1. Who’s Landing In My Hangar? 2. Saturday’s Girl – Human Switchboard b/w 1. Grey Turns To Black 2. P Spell – Alex Gibson
#8 See Those Eyes – Altered Images b/w Daytime Logic – Peter Baumann
#9 Personality Crisis – David Johansen
#10 1. Get Up and Go 2. End In Tears – Positive Noise
#11 1. L5 2. Public Places – Fools Face b/w 1. Happy Boy 2. Fun Type – Gleaming Spires
#12 Wolves, Lower – R.E.M. b/w Russian Roulette – The Lords of the New Church
#13 Masquerade – Berlin
#14 Jimmy Jimmy – Ric Ocasek
#15 1. Boys In Town 2. Science Fiction – Divinyls
#16 The Walls Came Down – The Call
