Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage Market worth $12.9 billion in 2030
The report "Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage Market by Service (Capture, Transportation, Utilization, Storage), Technology (Chemical Looping, Solvents & Sorbent, Membranes), End-Use Industry, and Region - Global Forecast to 2030", for carbon capture, utilization, and storage is expected to grow at an average CAGR of 24.0%, from USD 3.1 billion in 2023 to USD 12.9 billion in 2030. In order to minimize carbon emissions into the atmosphere, carbon capture, utilization, and storage techniques are primarily used in the oil and gas, power generation, and chemical and petrochemical sectors. Many countries all across the world have proposed deploying this technology to reduce carbon emissions and handle climate change. The market for carbon capture, utilization, and storage is being driven by government initiatives aimed at achieving net zero emissions.
Download pdf-https://www.marketsandmarkets.com/pdfdownloadNew.asp?id=151234843
Capture service segment comprise a major share of the carbon capture, utilization, and storage market, in terms of value and volume.
The first phase in the CCUS process is carbon capture, and it involves separating and extracting carbon from the effluent flue gas stream that originates from a variety of industrial sources, including power plants, petrochemical and chemical companies, iron and steel smelters, and others. Several methods are proposed to remove carbon from the flue gas effluent stream, including Direct Air Capture (DAC), Oxy-Fuel, Pre- and Post-Combustion, and Bio-Energy CCS (BECCS). Several companies use these technology all around the world to reduce their carbon footprint. Adoption of this technique appears to be more expensive since direct air capture significantly deviates from standard practices and removes carbon directly from the atmosphere rather than from industrial sources.
Chemical looping technology type to be the second dominating segment in the global carbon capture, utilization, and storage market in terms of value and volume
Chemical looping is a technique used in industries to trap CO2 during the thermal fuel conversion process. In order to create the nitrogen-free flue gas stream, which mostly consists of CO2, H2O, and reduced oxy-carbonates, a sequence of chemical processes are carried out. This extremely low chemical combination flue gas stream is subsequently sent to another operation, where carbon is removed from the residual effluent stream. This method is mostly utilized in the chemical and petrochemical, as well as oil and gas sectors, where the effluent stream's nitrogen content is considerably higher.
Oil & gas industry is the dominating end-use industry in the global carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage market in terms of value
The carbon capture, utilization, and storage market is dominated by the oil and gas sector. This can be attributed to the industry's high initial adoption rate, which is expected to continue during the forecast period, due to the fact it is one of the main sources of atmospheric carbon emissions. The CCUS technology is being used in a number of ongoing projects, including the Century Plant in the United States, the Shute Creek Gas Processing Plant in the United States, the Uthmaniyah Gas Plant in Saudi Arabia, and the Petrobras Santos Basin Plant in Brazil, to lower carbon emissions in their respective locations.
Sample Request- https://www.marketsandmarkets.com/requestsampleNew.asp?id=151234843
Asia Pacific to be the fastest-growing region in the carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage market during the forecast period
The CCUS market is expected to grow at the fastest pace in Asia Pacific. this is mostly because of the significant improvements in technological development that Australia and China have achieved. Businesses were initially hesitant to implement CCUS as it is a capital-intensive task. However, with recent developments in environmental policies and regulations, as well as the ability to combine CCUS with hydrogen generation, companies are now actively involved in the technology's development. Governments around the Asia-Pacific region constantly encouraging their industrial sector to actively engage in the joint endeavor to reduce climate change through the establishment of tax credit programs.
Some of the key players in the global carbon capture, utilization, and storage market are such as Royal Dutch Shell (Netherlands), Fluor Corporation (US), Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (Japan), Exxon Mobil Corporation (US), and Linde Plc (UK), JGC Holdings (Japan), Schlumberger Ltd (US), Aker Solutions (Norway), Honeywell International (US), Equinor ASA (Norway).

Real Life Update
So I had my hysterectomy and oophorectomy (yeeterus and throwvaries) on Tuesday - first thing in the morning, back home by 3pm. During my pre-op appointment I was told I was going to feel so horrible. I wasn't going to believe that they were going to be willing to send me home, I'd be so tired and nauseated. But honestly? Felt worse after my covid booster. Also, Oxy doesn't really do very much to me - it'll make me tired but it won't even put me out for very long.
The biggest problem so far has been the robot gas pain, but even that's kind of cool because I was operated on by robots?
I will say that I started writing this update on Thursday morning, maybe? It's Saturday night now, and then haven't felt able to spend my conscious brain cells towards writing this since. A lot of feeling fine and then deciding it's naptime.
Surgery, for those who are wondering, involved getting to the right area to the hospital, being immediately sent down to the first floor to actually check in to the hospital, being brought to a tiny alcove, asked to change, and do a pee test by one person, have someone else come in and ask why the first person went in the sequence they did and are told that you have to lay out, have two more people join in and ask you questions in rapid succession like they're speedruning a normal medical appointment check in, while having you hold out your arms and get slathered with something and random things stuck to your body. Then get you on oxygen and continue to ask questions while the surgeon arrives (and the guy on visiting fellowship, and the fourth year medical student), even though they told you you might be a little goofy. Then you get wheeled to a very bright room, have to shimmy over to the operating table, get a mask, and wake up a couple hours later. A nice nurse tells everyone that you're great, you get given some saltines and ginger ale and water, get some stickers taken off of you and are told that you can leave when you can pee. Then you get to have a pharmacist try to explain to you the seriousness of oxycotin while currently on oxy.
(I found two stickers on me afterwards, and then spent a lot Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning double checking.)
I highly recommend wearing a nightshirt for abdominal surgery, fyi. Who cares if you look ridiculous, it's easy to put on/take off when half-conscious, no waistband, and once you get home you don't have to change.
I'm now two potential cancers down (ovarian and endometrial). BRCA1 comes with a higher risk of breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, and melanoma, but two of those (breast cancer and melanoma) have pretty good detections and pancreatic is mostly a non issue. The endometrial cancer risk is potentially unrelated to the other cancer risks, but it was going to become more of an issue post menopause, which starts now for me, so. In any case, there's the probable double masectomy coming up, but otherwise, it's just semi-annual to annual check-ins.

After more than half a year of wait, the OXI One sequencer is finally here ! I haven't really tried it yet but the built and feel is amazing. I decided to found it and get one because it can do pretty much everything (mono and poly sequence, chords, arpeggiators... it can even be used as a monome Grid) and works with MIDI and CV so it'll be great for tying the modular and Ableton. I want to give a shout out to the @oxiinstruments team who made waiting for this sequencer a great experience: constantly communicating the advancements of the project, asking questions and listening to the future users, improving things to make it even better and being really accessible overall. It almost hard to believe it was their 1st project since they have done what a lot of companies with way more experience are struggling with (Not to name names but I have no idea when I'll get my SP404 Mk2... ^^). Thanks a lot guys: you nailed it ! Now I'll try to honor your work by making good use of it. :) . . . . #oxionesequencer #musicproduction #electronicmusic #modularsynth #newgear https://www.instagram.com/p/CZPr883NvxD/?utm_medium=tumblr

Sundance 2020: Day 6
Number of Films: 4 Best Film of the Day: The Killing of Two Lovers
The Killing of Two Lovers: Stereotypically, one hallmark of young directors on shoestring budgets is a lack of basic technical proficiency, but Robert Machoian‘s stunning film (his fourth feature) has style and expertise for days. From the opening sequence, with a distraught, estranged husband standing over the bed of his wife and her new boyfriend with malice in his heart, and a gun in hand, the film spirals out into incredibly well structured compositions, taking us inside and outside of David’s recurring psychosis, utilizing a bevy of techniques: The framing shrinks down around him, the sound gets muffled, as if underwater, save for the incredibly unnerving metallic sound of cables being stretched taut, and the sickening kathunk of a heavy car door slamming shut. As David makes his way through the days, tending to his infirm father, taking the kids out for a morning in the park, our sympathies are with him, but the recurring bouts of fury, in which he acts completely irrationally in ways that seem utterly foreign to our understanding of him. To hear him talk calmly with his wife, he sounds perfectly reasonable negotiating their shared plan, but we are always aware of the murderous fury in his soul. Given all that, and the very title itself, Machoian feels as if he’s drawing us down the inexorable vortex into violent catharsis, only, he ends up taking it in a far more unexpected direction. As well-crafted as it is, it forces you to examine this turn off the highway as something other than a curious misstep. Regardless, we should expect to see more from this talented director, and I will await his next project with great interest.
The Evening Hour: It certainly means well, but Braden King’s Applicachian drug-infested town drama mostly feels like a couple of lesser episodes of “Justified” strung together. Cole (Philip Ettinger) is a young man growing up in a rundown coal-mining town up in the mountains. He works at a nursing home by day, where is careful and conscientious with his patients, and has a thriving Oxy-selling scheme on the side. Notably, he doesn’t steal from those patients in his care, rather, he roams around the town, bringing bagged groceries to various other elderly residents, and pays them a small pittance for their unneeded prescriptions. When an old friend (Cosmo Jarvis) swings by to set up a Meth cookery, he runs afoul of the local drug-lord, Everett (Marc Manchaca), forcing Cole to step up and help. Shot on location in Kentucky, and with a good eye for natural detail, King puts his characters through their paces reasonably well, but it really isn’t anything we haven’t seen before.
Nine Days: A metaphysical weepie, Edson Oda’s film takes a somewhat similar framework to “The Good Place” only coming from the other end of a lifespan. Will (Winston Duke) is stationed in a small, somewhat forlorn house situated on a long, flat beach where the tide is always further away than you think. From there, in this pre-life way station, he monitors closely the lives of the souls he’s given the go-ahead to be born. When one of his souls dies mysteriously — possibly of a suicide he never saw coming — he has to interview a series of new candidates — including Zazie Beetz, Tony Hale, and Bill Skarsgard — in order to select a new soul to monitor. He is aided first by a fellow interviewer (Benedict Wong), but then Beetz’ character, Emma, also tries to help him. The film is, as you might expect, slow and somewhat somnambulant, with the exception of Beetz, filled with bubbly energy, and Hale, who injects some needed verve. Conceptually, it actually works pretty well, as long as you don’t look at it too closely (the rules, such as they are, remain almost comically vague), and it goes for the emotional jugular at the end, but I found myself appreciating it more than actually being engaged. One thing it does instill in you, however, is a feeling of gratitude, not letting everything whiz past you without your acknowledging the amazing complexity of our lives.
Horse Girl: A fascinating, and far more deeply personal, film than you might imagine from the simple log-line. A young, shy woman, obsessed with crochet, a TV show called “Purgatory,” and the horse she rode as a child, starts to lose her grip on her sanity, en route to a complete break-down. This being Sundance, it sounds at first blush as yet another quirky indie comedy where the woman needs to learn how to better survive in the world, and her friends and family all have to learn to take her how she is, but … this isn’t that movie. Instead, director Jeff Baena and co-writer/star Allison Brie take her character, Sarah, on a completely different journey. That is, eventually. Shrewdly, the first act of the film does in fact play like the comedy you might expect: Sarah is first merely eccentric and oddly lonely, peculiar especially because she is pretty, vivacious, and seems perfectly social. But shortly after she begins a romance, her dreams go into dark, confusing places, and she keeps sleepwalking out of the house, waking up in odd places (reminiscent a bit of Donnie Darko). Brie, who has talked on the press tour about her own family’s history of mental illness, isn’t interested in softening the disease, making it palatable (or comic) for the audience; but she also isn’t making some didactic screed. Rather, she and Baena have made an ungainly sort of feature, filled with bits and pieces that don’t swallow easily.
Tomorrow: On my last day of the festival, I start my day with the creepy atmospherics of Remi Weekes’ His House; and close out my Sundance 2020 experience with the lauded doc Boys State.
Into the frigid climes and rarefied thin air of the spectacular Utah Mountains, I've arrived in order to document some of the sense and senselessness of the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. Over the next week, armed with little more than a heavy parka and a bevy of blank reporter's notebooks, I'll endeavor to watch as many movies as I can and report my findings.

Across the Rubicon (1/?)
Fandom: Ducktales 2017/Duck Avenger Pairing: Gen (so far) Authors note: No beta readers we die like men. also if you actually like this let me know and i’ll try and work on it some more! Summary: When Donald wrestles his sister out of the spear of selene’s pilot chair, he doesn’t expect to be locked inside without any way to disable the take off sequence, and none of them expect the cosmic storm- or the alien ship creating it. (AU where Donald takes the SOS instead of Della)
Donald tackles Della out of the pilots seat.
She squawks in surprise, twisting under him and the rears her head back, slamming her helmet into his beak. He yelps in pain, ducking his head to keep her from pulling the same stunt again, and struggles to keep a hold of her. He needed to get her off this death trap- the space suits Uncle Scrooge had custom made for them had parachutes, if he could just push her out the door she’d be fine.
“Donald!” She thrashes and he plants his feet and pulls, dragging her across the floor, “Let go!” she shouts, and there’s an edge of panic, “I already started the take off sequence! You have to get out of here!”
“I’m not letting you do this!” He snaps, latching onto her legs, “You can’t leave them behind!”
She twists so she's on her back, smacking at his chest and trying to pry him off, “I’ll be right back! Just once last avenue! One more adventure!”
She wiggles her left foot free and kicks him, sending him sprawling across the floor and his face twists, “It’s always one more something with you! You have to slow down! You have kids!” and it’s an argument they’ve had a thousand and one times before.
The Spear of Selene seems to hum louder and Dellas face falls, and she scrambles to her feet, reaching down and grabbing his arms, “You have to get off!” she pulls him over to the hatch he’d come in at and rushes to open it, the latch grinding in protest as she slams it open.
“I won’t make it down in time!”
She opens her mouth to say something but before she can get it out, he’s barreling into her, shoving her out the door and suddenly she’s freefalling. She pinwheels her arms, remember her parachute and pulls the ripcord. It catches the wind hard and the straps yank at her shoulders, almost too soon she hits the ground with a solid thud, rolling to try and recover. It had broken most of her fall, just not quite all- and she’d have the bruises to show for it days later.
“But you will.” Donald mutters to himself, watching her make it to the ground. He whips around, tearing through the SOS- he’s gotta find the spare suit. He wasn’t lying before- if he just tried climbing down, he’d never make it before the ship kicked off. He’d have to jump like Della. He’s elbows deep in the supply closet when he hears something slam. He practically leaps back up the ladder into the cockpit- the hatch had closed and locked on its own. Donald grabs the handle and pulls violently, but it doesn’t budge.
He vaults over the back of the captains chair to sit in it, the communications screen is blinking- and incoming call, he smacks the buttons around it, miraculously hitting the right one to answer the line, “Della!” Scrooge freezes, mouth gaping when the wrong twin appears on the screen, “What- Donald?” He asks, astonished, “What are you doing in there?”
“I’d love to chit-chat, Uncle Scrooge, but i’m running out of time! This thing is going to take off with me in it!” He glances down at all the buttons and controls sitting in front of him, blinking lights and dials staring unhelpfully back at him, “What do I do?”
“Just get out of there lad!” Scrooge leans forward, face crowding the screen, “There’s a spare suit under the pilots chair! Use the parachute to abandon ship!”
Donald’s already shaking his head even as he grabs the suit from the compartment beneath the chair, he hadn’t noticed it until Uncle Scrooge pointed it out, “The door’s locked, I can’t open it.”
Under his feathers, Scrooge’s face goes white, “Locked..?”
The door behind Scrooge slams open and Della’s standing there, she’d torn off her helmet at some point and all she was left in was the bottom of the space suit, “The ships in the last stage of take off! Donald, you have to cancel the launch!” She practically leaps across the room, yanking the microphone from Scrooge’s hand, “You have to cancel the launch!” she repeats frantically, the ship making a new and scary sound.
“I don’t know how! It’s not as if there’s a cancel lift off button in here!” he rakes his eyes across the control panels. He pulls the space suit up to his hips before Della is rattling off orders at him.
“If it’s not, put the yoke in resting position! And then-” It’s a bunch of techno jargon he can’t keep up with, push this and flip that and turn this, he can’t keep up.
“I don’t understand,” he says and the ship lurches under him, he grabs the arm rests of the pilots chair to keep himself steady.
Della on the screen gasps, clutching at the mic in her hand desperately, “It’s too late.” She whispers and then, with more authority, “Put the suit on Donald. We can’t stop the launch now, you’re gonna have to pilot this thing. We’ll get you into orbit and then we’ll come for you, okay? We’ll come.” She’s trying to be steady, but her voice shakes. He zips up the suit and twists the helmet down so it seals properly.
The Spear of selene trembles and shudders, Scrooge and Della turn their eyes to different screen, face lit up by yellow and white and red as the ship blasts off. Della starts shouting at him through the comms again, more directions- she's more in control now, steady, dumbing down her words so he can follow along. “The switch right below the biggest yellow dial, yes, flip that one now-” he doesn’t dare watch the ground grow smaller and smaller below him, he can’t stomach it. This is the scariest thing he’s ever done, all his attention needs to be here and now and on Dellas every word.
“That’s it, lad!” Scrooge says encouragingly, and Donald smiles shakily through the G-Force of leaving Earth’s atmosphere.
Blue and white clouds bleed into black, white stars like pinpricks appearing on the horizon, and it’s beautiful. For half a second he forgets where he is, what’s happening to him- and then what looks like billowing black smoke and smog starts to swirl around him, flashes of lightning in between the dark clouds, and Donald's face falls.
“What?” Scrooge asks, crowding past Della once he watches the dread rise on Donald's face.
He’d almost made it, too.
“A cosmic storm.” He says breathlessly, overwhelmed suddenly by how out of his depth he was- the Spear of Selene begins to shake and Donald grabs the stick tightly, trying to steady her, and he feels like he’s holding a live wire as it trembles beneath his hands.
“What? No! The skies were clear!” his sister yelps and there’s fear in her voice.
They’re yelling, telling him to try and avoid it, pull up- but there’s nowhere to go where it won’t reach him- and he can see through it, almost, like he’s flying through a tunnel. Maybe if he could just- just make it to the end-
Their yelling turns to white noise under the thundering of his heart in his ears when the ship appears. It’s massive, shaped like a dome with an orange beak at the front, so entirely foreign and terrifying he's struck dumb by the shock and fear lancing through his system, right in the middle on the cosmic storm, the epicenter. It’s so much bigger than his tiny, tiny ship. He is all too aware, suddenly, how insignificant he is.
“Uncle Scrooge!” He cries out in blind fear, but when he looks back at the screen it’s black. The cosmic storm- or whatever that ship is- knocked out his radio. He’s flying right towards it.
He grabs the control and pulls sharply to the right just so he’s flying away from the thing, heart leaping into his throat when the massive duck bill begins to open. The Selene shudders but ever so faithfully turns, arching him away from whatever monstrosity he’d almost been forced to face.
And then a white light tears through the night sky and locks onto the Selene, a tractor beam, and yanks it backwards. Donald has half a second to curse himself for not buckling in before he’s thrown from his seat when the ship lurches sharply. He’s tossed out of the cockpit and down the ladder into the main communal space inside the ship, landing hard and sliding across the floor as the ship is manhandled across the stars. The ship shudders to a stop and he does too, he’s strewn across the floor, breathing hard.
There a sharp twinge in his left arm, and when he goes to push himself up it collapses under the pressure, but he couldn’t focus on it right now. His helmet cracked at some point in the chaos, hissing our air, and he pops it off and tosses it aside just to stop the noise so he can think. There’s a moment of silence and he struggles to his feet, glancing around, waiting for the other shoe to drop.
The hatch in the cockpit makes a thunking noise, unlatching, and its opened. Donald backs away from the ladder, pressing himself flat against the farthest wall, eyes stuck on the opening above him. Slowly, smoke begins to filter in.
Donalds mind jumps into action and he dives for the supply closet, struggling with the combination for half a second before throwing it open as white smog fills the last breathable air he’d had. Either they were trying to poison him or knock him out, and he couldn’t let either happen. He rummages in it for half a second, pulling out exactly what he’d been looking for.
Oxy-Chew. If Donald made it back, he’d have to thank Gyro for that one.
He chews through a stick as fast as he can, smiling at the flavor, “Black licorice.” he mutters thankfully. Gyro had the worst taste, but luckily so did Donald.
As the gas fills the room, Donald clamps a hand over his beak so he won't breath anything but the oxy-chew in his mouth, skirting around the room to position himself half-hidden behind the supply closet, giving the ladder a wide berth. There's another sound and then there are footsteps in the cockpit, and sound of several something's coming down the ladder. When they get to the bottom, Donald almost swallows the gum in shock. They’re huge, with thick smooth purple skin, a purple suit on top Donald could have sworn was just an extension of its skin if not for the raised seams, and they’ve got duck feet and duck bills even though they are most certainly not ducks. They’re tall and lanky, sickeningly thin, with big arching metal shoulder pads, long spindly arms and blue gloves. There’s three of them, only one has a futuristic looking gun, and they sweep their eyes around the room.
Donald decides quickly that if he’s going down, he’s going down swinging.
He launches himself out from behind the closet with an angry wail, fists flying, and by sheer surprise he manages to take them down. He gets the one with the gun first, flinging the weapon across the room before climbing up the alien and kicking him in the face, using him as a springboard to leap at the next intruder and using the same tactic. He scrambles up the ladder while they lay there, stunned, and he paused at the open hatch, unsure of what’s on the other side. He squares his shoulder and leaps out of the hatch, into what he thinks might be his last fight.
The aliens are big and strong and he takes down, surprisingly, a lot more before they manage to subdue him. He bruised and sore and bleeding from where one had given him a wallop in the beak. He’s locked in futuristic looking handcuffs behind his back and when one of the Evronians yanks him along, his arm arcs with fire. He’s worsened whatever injury he’d gotten in the kidnapping. Oh god, it was starting to sink in, he’d been kidnapped.
They walk him through a series of interlocking hallways almost aimlessly, he’s certain they’re trying to disorient him but he keeps careful track of where they've been and starts building a map in his head. He’d been on adventures with Della and Scrooge, he knew how to keep his bearings when things were happening too fast, and he was great with his sense of direction. He could use those skills now. The walls of the ship are yellow, a sort of bronze color, with supports like ribs lining the passageways.
They lead him out into a large atrium, the black of space in front of them, stars blurring into white lines and Donald realizes with sinking certainty that they’re moving, and that they are moving away from earth. Away from home.
We’ll come for you, Della had said. Donald didn’t think they could come this far.
There's another alien here, but he’s different. He’s tall and purple with a duck bill, of course, but he’s dressed in heavy teal robes with ornate silver trim, and he has thick yellow protrusions coming out of his skull, almost like hair but too thick and rubbery for Donald to accurately compare the two. The aliens that dragged him in kick the back of his legs and force him to his knees, and they speak to the obviously higher ranking alien in front of them in a garbled language Donald knows doesn’t sound like anything on earth.
The alien in charge seems to move across the floor without lifting his feet, almost like he’s gliding, and it makes Donald shudder with how unnatural it is. He stops in front of Donald and looks him over, inspecting him sharply. His hands flash out, yanking a feather from his head roughly.
Donald hisses at the prick of pain, takes a startled inhale and, even though the oxy-chew is still steadily supplying him with oxygen, he realizes that he can breath this air too.
“I’m not trying to kill you, duck.” The alien says, regarding the feather in his hand, inspecting the pinprick of blood on the calamus, “My name is Gorthan, I am the head scientist of the Evronian Empire. My crew and I have been sent to Earth to observe your species.”
It sounds almost innocuous, but Gorthans voice is like honey mixed with arsenic, “Your species has a funny way of observing.” Donald grimaces.
“I am not afraid to seize an opportunity presented to me.” Gorthan tucks the feather into his sleeve, standing at his full height, “‘Be not afraid of greatness: Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.’ You are my opportunity to get a… much closer look at the earthlings. I have use for you yet.”
Donald grinds his teeth, “That shakespeare quote is a dirty joke.” He spits.
“Take him to the labs.” Gorthan dismisses with a sneer, and they drag him from the room.
“Aw Phooey.” Donald whispers mostly to himself.

Stuck in Time
"Raphon?"
Their leader nodded. "It's located not far from here. Provider asked for an update on life there."
"Why? That thing is a ball of grey smoke!" Adam shouted. "Nothing's ever been there!"
"No…but Provider is wondering and so we listen."
"C'mon Adam! Provider's chosen us to do something for him! Isn't that amazing!" Lily exclaimed.
Adam did have to admit she was right, although he still was dreading the idea of seeing Raphon in person. He thought back to all the things he’d been told since he was born: toxic air, no lifeforms, massive crevices across it that went close to the mantle, and fire scars plaguing the surface for as far as the eye can see. It was as if it never got past the first stage of becoming a planet and ended up sitting there, frozen in developmental hell.
Yet he had to admit he was curious. He would get to brag to everyone that he had survived a trip to Raphon, something which should score him some social points, especially since it was going to be his first excursion outside of the Bez-3 galaxy.
“Oh, alright. You got me there.” Adam said, earning a wide smile from Lily.
Commander smiled at them, her eyes beaming with pride as she turned to her computer and began typing away. He and Lily got their respective suits on, each brandishing a black patch with a stark white A outlined in orange.
“Doesn’t it seem weird, Lily?” Adam asked. “I mean, Raphon?! Raphon!? Why that place? Why would Provider want info on that hunk of rock?”
“Adam…” She began, “You know that Provider has his reasons. Maybe he needs minerals from Raphon.”
“Could blow up the whole thing so it could be put out of its misery.”
“He has his reasons. Maybe he just wants to see if there’s anything new? Whatever his reason is, we have to listen. He-”
“Provides all whenever we need it.” Adam finished. “Well duh, I know! Why else do you think I’m working at A-Space in the first place?” He sighed as he readjusted his suit. “It’s just...Could you imagine if he noticed me? I would love to hear him say my name or...or what if I get to meet him? Or work closer to him like Commander?”
“Oh sure, and we’ll get our groceries three days from now!” Lily exclaimed.
They both laughed as they climbed into their pod Commander had hailed for them. Before getting in, Adam ran his hand across the same ensignia that was brandished upon the pod, tracing his finger along the orange outline. If meeting Provider meant going to Raphon, he wouldn’t mind taking the risk.
As they settled in, Lily pressed the blue button on the control panel and they were launched into space. Once the speed settled, Lily got up and began working on the coordinates for Raphon.
Adam got up and tapped a few buttons on the screen near him, a ham and cheese sandwich popping out in a cardboard box with an A stamped on every corner of it.
“Hm...Took longer than usual.” Adam commented as he tore open the box.
“We’re on a pod,” Lily began, “There’s always gonna be some kind of delay.”
“I guess...Though you’d think the curators would fix it by now.”
“Probably.” Lily said as she took a seat near him, pulling out her own device to order lunch. “Provider must be trying to make it instantaneous.”
“Suggestion recorded.” Said the automated voice of the pod.
“Thank you.” They both replied.
“Provider thanks you as well for your orders and help to make our business better.” It stated.
“What’s she mean by business?” Adam asked.
“Must be an outdated language system. Businesses haven’t existed for a good decade or so.” Lily explained as her bowl of pasta appeared before her, the steam still curling off the surface.
Adam nodded as he looked outside as they hurtled through space. His stomach was starting to twist around inside of him. He wasn’t sure if it was from excitement or nervousness, though he figured it was probably a terrible mixture of both. To think he was about to see Raphon in person; at this point he was starting to wonder if it was a blessing or a curse Provider had chosen him to go on this mission.
…
There it was: an ugly, grey husk of a planet surrounded by poisonous, yellow fumes. The scanner said it detected faint traces of oxy-three throughout the old chemicals that it failed to recognize past toxic. The pod surrounded itself in a proper oxygen field as they broke through the horrendous atmosphere of Raphon.
They landed on a hard piece of ground, a cloud of black smoke curling around their pod. Adam’s lip curled up in disgust. Why would Provider want us here? One look at it says enough. He thought again. No life could ever be here, not as something as monochromatic and noxious as this place.
“I think we’re the first bit of color this place has seen in ages.” Lily commented as they stepped out of the pod.
“I think it’s never seen color.” Adam replied s he held his hand up, his dark brown skin barely standing out against the muddy fog that surrounded them.
“Well, get collecting. According to our commander, the whole planet looks like this, so we don’t need to go anywhere but here.”
“Finally, some good news.” Adam said.
They began looking for any anomalies, though the most they could see was a faded strip of yellow across the black ground, making Adam remember the time he’d attempted painting while drunk.
“Ugh, it’s vile here.” Adam commented. “I’ll bet you 50 A-curr that we won’t find anything past brown and black rock.”
“According to A-Knowledge,” The voice in his helmet began, “Raphon once produced rain containing high amounts of toxic chemicals that could weather metal and stone.”
“Thank you.” He replied.
“Provider is happy to hear you are learning through A-Knowledge. He hopes you will continue to use it when you have a question.”
…
“Adam, have you found anything?” Lily asked.
“Oh yeah! Some stories and a three course meal!” He exclaimed as he kicked another black rock.
“Well...I did, I think it’s…moving.”
Adam perked up and ran over to Lily. She held up a little, brown creature with eight legs attached to its wide body.
“Scan this.” Adam ordered.
“Unknown organism.” The voice replied.
“It looks like those creatures my dad used to tell me about!” Lily exclaimed. “He said things like this could hang from mid-air like it was flying and would be able to hang upside down from the ceiling! Isn’t that cool?!”
“I’d say it’s terrifying. Look at it! It’s creepy with all those legs…”
“I am looking at it! But Adam, this is what Provider was wondering about! Life! Here on Raphon! Can you believe we found it!”
The little creature crawled out of Lily’s hand, making her rush to collect a video of it scuttling off before she scanned pieces of what looked like hair off her hand.
“Amazing, isn’t it?” She asked.
Adam nodded, though the hairs on his neck were still on end from seeing that thing. As creepy as it was, it was alive and that’s what mattered to Provider.
“C’mon! Let’s see if there’s anything else!” Lily said, grabbing his arm and pulling him ahead.
“Hang on! It’s almost 40° out here!”
“Air activated. Initiating cool down sequence.” The voice said.
“Thank you.”
“Provider is pleased you are happy with his services.” It replied.
They frantically began looking around for anything else other than the eight-legged being. Adams' nerves went wild with excitement. Surely that thing needed food! Plants? Other creatures? Something...surely it didn’t just live off rocks...right?
His vision began to grow hazy from the exhaustion as his heart thudded in his chest. Up ahead, the ground grew blacker and dustier, the remains of rocks scattered about.
“Hey, what’s that?” Lily suddenly said.
Adam looked up, seeing a broken yet oddly uniform square. They rushed towards it, the black dust forming a new hideous cloud behind them.
Lily picked it up and shone a light down on it.
“Lo...An...es? Loanes?” She asked.
“Was somebody else here?” Adam questioned.
“According to A-Knowledge, other ships have been sent to Raphon.” The voice answered before continuing. “Some have left debris behind due to a pod malfunction that occurred thirty years ago. Provider fixed that pod, but the duo of Tathum and Verity were unable to be saved due to suit malfunctions and a lack of proper oxygen.”
“Thank you.” Adam said.
“Provider is happy to hear you are learning through A-Knowledge. He hopes you will continue to use it when you have a question.
“Maybe it caught fire or something...This much stuff in the air probably wasn’t good for anything here.” Lily said.
Adam nodded, his stomach beginning to churn again at the thought of dying on such a planet.
“C’mon, this place is freaking me out.” Adam admitted, tugging at Lily’s sleeve.
She nodded, her face twisting from horror and disgust as she snapped a picture of the Loanes sign. He hailed the ship, his mind focusing on nothing but leaving Raphon as fast as possible. He was tired of the soot, of the grey and yellow sky, and of the impending threat of slowly suffocating from the poison that surrounded this inhospitable rock.
Adam rush onto the ship with Lily. She wasted no time typing in the coordinates for him as Adam collapsed onto one of the seats. In an instant, the ship took off, blowing a massive cloud into the air behind them.
“Finally…” Adam sighed as he removed his helmet, breathing in the fresh oxygen. He ordered a snack from the pod, a bag of plant chips appearing in a split second.
“Must’ve updated…” He said as he wolfed down the snack.
Lily just nodded, uploading her notes and media to the pod. Her face seemed oddly pale and her eyes were wide, yet she seemed focused on her task. Adam tossed his snack into the trash as Lily joined him. She turned her attention to outside, Adam following as they watched the brown planet slowly vanish. For a split second, Adam felt sympathy for the planet. To think something went wrong centuries ago that prevented it from fully developing. Maybe in due time it would, maybe it would forever be stuck in this ugly stasis, or maybe it would kill itself from its malignant atmosphere and fade away into the cosmos.
…
“Provider, the duo of Walker and Parsons reported life on Raphon.”
“Thank you Commander, your help is appreciated.” He replied.
Commander left, leaving Provider alone in his office. He looked down outside, basking in the sunlight made all those years ago by his father.
“Alexa, update the Raphon files.” Provider said.
“Raphon; aka Earth’s file was updated. Shall I share this news with your customers?”
“No, thank you Alexa.”
“Response accepted. Anything else Provider?”
“No, thank you Alexa.”

My bad imitation of skincare gurus - acne prone skin
Hey guys, it’s summertime and that means I’m bored out of my mind. This year, I went to France to see my family, and, at the same time, I renewed my skincare closet. After a disastrous year dealing with stress, my acne inflamed into cystic acne !! I needed to treat my skin properly and stop picking !! So this is hOw I dealt with it: here’s the list of skin supplies for my morning routine. EnjOy my amateur guru-ness.
c l e a n s i n g
1. La Roche-Posay Effaclar Gel Facial Wash ($14.99)
I use an electric brush to cleanse lightly and gently, as to not tear the skin lesions. This foaming gel is great for oily skin, may be a little harsh for some. Only downside is that it takes time to wash off all the product (and we all know that we’re rushing in the morning).
When I first tried it, I put wayyy too much product so I’d even get some in my mouth and damn that shit nasty.
Also, here’s a little eulogy of French brands. They’re well known for their skin repairing regimens and products because they’re all very advanced in technology. They’re very reliable, but I think you should know that these French products are most efficient in European weather, so even if I live in Asia, my skin still has a lot of problems.
2. It’s Skin Blackhead Clear Wash ($9.41)
This time I use my hands and the tip of my fingers. I generally spray my T-zone, which is where I have the most blackheads. It’s light and bubbly, and please wait a second before breathing in after spraying because the particles in the air haven’t settled so y’all will end up with soap in your mouth. Seems to work quite well.
t o n i n g
1. La Roche-Posay Effaclar Astringent Toner ($23.99)
This toner is the Holy Grail of acne-prone skin. With the use of alcohol and strong astringents, this toner really helps clean the last bits of grime off. I enjoy the dry feeling after putting this on. I usually use a cotton pad. Also because I have a nasty habit of picking at my acne, this toner makes the wounds sting and therefore, helps stop me from touching my face lol.
2. Shiseido Eau de Carmin DeLuxe ($6.63)
My mom introduced me to it, saying that she used this when she was younger. She would dab some on her acne spots as a treatment, but for me, it felt more like a toner so I just use it as a toner. I use my hands to pat it onto my face. Eh I consider this as “essence”. After patting, your skin gets realllllly smooth, soft and dewy. It’s almost as if someone sprinkled some powder on your face.
s e r u m
SVR SebiaClear Serum ($32.90)
Now, I have recently started using this, so I cannot be sure about its effects. But for me, it seems to have controlled my sebum production. My forehead is not as oily as before which is great lol.
t r e a t m e n t
Prescribed by dermatologist Azel Cream (20% Azelaic acid) (for acne scars)
Prescribed by dermatologist Adapalene Gel (0.1% Adapalene) (for those little bumps on your forehead)
SVR SebiaClear Cicapeel
OXY 10% Benzoyl Peroxide
Kummel Acne Ointment
So I basically use all of these from time to time. It’s a sequence of how bad my acne is ranked from 1 to 5. I mean the first two are prescribed so I use it all the time. All of these are great stuff, but the best way to treat acne is from the iNsiDE. Gee drink some agua and go sleep because honestly, that’s the best way for most of us to deal. EXcept if it’s because of stress and hormones then rip take meds, anti-bacterial pills work pretty well.
c r e a m
1. Sesderma C-Vit Eye contour cream ($36.00)
Y’all I use this because my eyebags and dark circles are the wOrst. I have interrupted sleep and I sleep really late, so I gotta fix that with creams and stuff. Lmao instead of repairing my actual problems just gotta use money and buy my skin away (it isn’t exactly working but yes)
2. Vichy Normaderm Correcting Anti-blemish care ($17.16)
Oh dang, this one is pretty troublesome. After layering for some time, the moisturiser usually starts to rub off. It pills up which is quite bothersome. But besides that, it does work marvels when it comes to locking your skin’s moisture. Just be cautious of how much product you use!
s u n s c r e e n
1. ISDIN Fotoprotector FusionWater Pediatrics 50+ ($22.79)
THIS IS THE BEST SUNSCREEN I’VE EVER USED. It’s light, and it’s not sticky it feels awesomE. I usually hate putting on sunscreen because I get a lot of acne from that. BUT NOT THIS ONE. It feels marvellous.
~ reminder that everyone’s skin is different, so what works for me may not work for you

Real Blood Vs Twilight - Which Has the Even bigger Chunk?
Two of the most important and most expected paromantasy collection are earning (or have built) their debut this thirty day period. Accurate Blood hit the compact display on June thirteenth with its time 3 premiere, and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse hits the big display screen on June 30th. My dilemma to you is: Which is the ultimate vamp saga: True Blood or Eclipse? The fight of the Twilighters and True Blooders has been raging on, both with massive followings. This isn't going to imply that the Twilighters are not admirers of True Blood, or vice-verse - it is just the debate of which one is the better of the two sequence, the two in literature and on-display. Twilighters are fierce in their assist, as noticed by Twilight's complete take in excess of at the MTV Movie Awards this earlier Sunday. Accurate Blood is not slacking in the awards arena, with the two an Emmy and a Golden Globe less than its belt. It is also obvious that neither phenomenon is likely wherever. Alan Ball confirmed in January that True Blood will be back for a fourth time and Wyck advised the Moments previously this 12 months that Breaking Dawn is heading ahead (however not absolutely sure if it will be one film or two), and taking pictures will start out this Drop. So, what is actually the verdict? If you check with me: Real Blood wins - Arms Down! Hold out! Just before you hit deliver on the despise electronic mail you just set alongside one another, hear me out. You should not get me completely wrong - I enjoy the Twilight Saga and contemplate myself a Superfang, but True Blood has it all: Motion, Romance, Mystery, Horror, in addition it is just basic steamy. Vamps and Werewolves are scary, sinister and hot - which is really a lot why we love them. Accurate Blood delivers this to the forefront earning you adore them and panic them at the similar time. Essential Illustrations: Try to remember when delicate and tranquil vampire Invoice went a minor loco and killed Sookie's molesting uncle - was not that the sweetest and scariest factor you ever observed?! How about Eric Northman? Do I even have to give you an example? That vamp is walking hazard and intercourse on pretty extensive legs (sorry, you can obviously inform who my paromantasy vamp is). Twilight can be the full opposite. It does have times of motion, but it is in essence a really like story, without the added reward of gore and suspense. We can fairly substantially forecast what is likely to materialize from beginning to close. Even the followers out there have to admit that it can also get down correct depressing at times! Keep in mind the scene in which Bella sat at the window for months following Edward left - ugh. I was screaming at her to get up and get about it previously. Sorry, that component just ticked me off. That potential customers me to the future little bit Correct Blood people are just extra entertaining. Let us consider a appear: Bella vs. Sookie Sookie can be ditzy and downright aggravating at periods, but she will not choose crap from anybody (or everything!). She sticks up for what she thinks in and isn't really concerned to consider the bull by the horns, or ought to I say the vamps by their fangs. This woman is intense when she needs to be. Additionally, she can read through minds and that's sizzling. Bella is the complete opposite. She's sensible and shy, but she is too dependent on many others. Arrive on - Confess it! When she missing Edward, her planet turned upside down. She was pretty significantly the strolling useless, which is humorous trigger isn't that Edward's job:) She stood in that insane zombie state right until she started off hanging out with Jacob. When Jacob preferred to ditch her, Bella virtually went insane all over again - she begged him not to depart her. Not neat! Like I explained ahead of, Bella and Sookie are entire opposites. Bella's energy: The vamps can't read her brain. Winner is: Sookie Primary Adult males Do you like a vamp that sparkles or is entirely useless in the sunlight? Do you like a vamp who will recite poetry to you or a vamp that will make you scream poetry in the bed room (if you capture my drift)? When you appear at the major male characters of Monthly bill and Edward, figuring out a apparent winner is fairly hard. These two are specially related. Two vamps that want to go towards the grain and lead "typical" lives. They want to better by themselves alternatively of becoming the monsters that you listen to about in terrifying stories. They are both equally clever, previous fashioned and are really protective of their ladies. Both equally are melancholy and a minimal to blah for my flavor. That is why I am staff Eric and crew Jacob! Winner is: Tie. They are as well considerably alike to connect with a apparent winner Woman Stealer You are unable to have a paromantasy with no throwing in a adore triangle. Not to fear: Eric and Jacob are below to give us the drama we want. Eric: Ah, Eric. What can I say about him? He is strolling sex, danger and evil, with a concealed gentle spot in that non-beating heart of his. Just isn't that an oxy moron for you? He locks up and tortures Lafayette just one minute, then will save Sookie and cries for Godric in the following. His character leaves you on your toes at all situations. Do you belief him or not? Are his intentions pure or does he just want something from you? Is he sizzling or is he sizzling? Okay, that last a person isn't going to make sense. The issue is: with Eric, almost nothing is predictable, very little is straightforward and every little thing is erotic and sexy. This is why we like him. Males want to be him and females effectively we want to do substantially, a lot far more to him-) Jacob: He is the lovable werewolf who will die defending the people today he loves, especially Bella. He is both equally immature and mature for his age. This is bewildering, but real. When it will come to Bella he is naive, but when it comes to lifestyle - he gets the big photo. If you liked this write-up and you would certainly like to receive additional info concerning 日に焼けるまで 田舎の従姉弟と姉と弟 kindly go to the web site. This werewolf is lovable with an edge. Winner is: Eric. Did you even have to check with?! This just one is no contest. Supporting Solid Correct Blood This is in which factors get exciting. True Blood has a huge array of characters that are all appealing, entertaining and down ideal funny. Scenario in position: Lafayette. Who will not like the flamboyant gay male who can be your makeup artists, stylist and your bodyguard all at the identical time? He dances, wears make-up and can toss a killer punch. He is the manliest guy in a skirt and I adore him. Jason: He is the dumb, incredibly hot, athletic blonde brother of Sookie whose key goal is to get laid any prospect he receives. He is funny and potent. A difficulties seeker, but faithful to individuals he enjoys - sweet and very stupid. He is the girls man whose escapades go away us dying, figuratively and literally. Tara: She is a comprehensive aggressor. She will just take on the planet, but is also pretty gullible. I have to admit that she is not my beloved character and I favor the guides model of Tara to the Tv version, but there is also never a dull minute in her everyday living and that helps make for excellent enjoyment. Pam: Eric's sidekick may possibly not be a frequent, but when she is on - she is memorable. She is elegant, fairly, snarky, witty and sarcastic all wrapped up with a comically evil bow. This fashionista vamp can acquire a group down in seconds with no wrinkling her outfits or messing up her shoes, apart from when she was searching for Maryanne - wasn't that section funny. She is also warm, but you should not underestimate her. She'll try to eat your young ones for supper - virtually.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS AND DEVELOPMENT UPDATE ROUNDUP
We’ve gotten a number of questions from our Discord members in the past month and it’s time to share them with everyone along with our answers.
See what a handful of our backers have been asking Rob, Aivi, surasshu, and me after the jump.
Kishou asks the following questions:
Can you change Esmy's appearance? Like, with armor sprites?
Sadly, given how Cryamore’s sprites are designed, it’s too taxing to make armor sprites for Esmy as we’d have to make armor sprites for a lot of unique animations, idle, running, hit, ground cast, mid cast, high cast, Vanish animations, Boulder Dash animations, etc. and then multiply that with 3 or 5 directions each.
The most we can offer for visual customization are palette swaps.
Featured above are palettes for default, Braxton, Bliss, “Dewritos”, and Black & Blue
I just want to see Esmy in something revealing like a swimsuit
Rob can probably arrange that in another artwork. I could sprite Esmy in a swimsuit but I don’t think we have any scenarios written down that feature her in one.
Of course, we could always write one in...
I'm not sure if this is asked before but is there a love interest in mind for Esmy?
Esmy’s too focused on her work and studying cryamore to notice anyone that may have feelings for her.
Right?
There's no "right" or "wrong" way to clear the game right? Like, surely some spells solve puzzles but there will be proficiency in not just weapon choices but spells in fighting too?
We’ve done our best to make sure your offensive/defensive ability and weapon loadouts will always be viable so whether you like playing ranged weapons with hard hitting close combat abilities, using mobility enhancing abilities with melee weapons or whatever playstyle tickles your fancy, we’ve spent a lot of time ensuring we got everything balanced and fun enough so there won’t be an absolute god tier and worst tier loadout.
Phosphatide asks:
About story flow: with games now searching for the perfect balance between "linear progression" and "open world freedom" to avoid blatant in-game walls preventing the possibility of sequence-breaking exploration or aimless wandering with no sense of urgency... what was your goal for Cryamore?
Alan: Honestly, I personally wanted full-on freedom to go explore some of the hardest areas of the game and risk the chance of getting wrecked, but we had to corrall things a bit to ensure you stay within the story bounds. Rob being the lead on this has final say on direction.
Rob: I wanted to instill a sense of survival in the game and make sure that the abilities are a big focal point for both puzzles and combat so we were able to block off certain areas of the world the way Metroidvanias would; give you a hint at what might be ahead, but you're blocked by something that needs a new ability
Alan: There's still freedom to be had but you can only go so far before you either hit a roadblock which needs an ability or sometimes story progression (you need clearance to explore south of the island)
So yeah, the goal was to give some freedom but not too much and I'm hoping we managed to achieve it with the world design I've done and with enough usage of the puzzle solving abilities we've made.
Tomar asks:
Curiosity here. Do you guys do art asset sharing through your VC system, or do you use something simpler like dropbox/google drive?
We’ve mostly used Dropbox all throughout to share asset files.
Above are the four folders we have set for Cryamore. Backgrounds has Rob and me contributing to it, Illustrations has Rob, me, and JC and Juby’s contributions, Inspiration Music has Aivi and surasshu’s work (a lot of unheard of to the public music WIP files) and Sprite-Animations has my work.
Once something like music, animation or an environment asset is set, Rob or I transfer it to Unity, apply any settings necessary (import and display settings for 2DToolkit, audio settings for Master Audio, etc.) and then upload it to the SVN so the file and all its settings will exist for anyone on the team with a Unity key and access to the Cryamore SVN.
Do you use freecamp for like kanban/task management stuff?
When we had more people in our team, we used OpenOffice and then switched to Freedcamp to keep track of tasks and bugs. Now that it’s just Rob and me, and Aivi and surasshu on sound and music, we mostly just keep a personal to-do list.
Xaelon asks:
I have no idea if this is possible with how the game is built, but something you could add to promote replay after the base game is completed would be a "randomizer mode" that shuffles various things into different places.
We could probably apply that to enemy spawns and some cryam deposits but the environment layouts though aren't as flexible sadly as we don’t use tilesets and the collision bounds of the environments aren’t generated by object due to a lot of irregular organic shapes.
We definitely have considered implementing a NG+ option though, maybe with levels and certain abilities intact on the next play but with more mobs and other difficulty boosts.
shadowreaper5 asks:
Do skills with timers (like the buff to breathe underwater) have a visual representation of the time left?
To a certain extent, yes. Esmy’s going to have a breath meter over her head while underwater without the Oxy Barrier ability.
We initially wanted to just have a blue fill over Esmy’s status portrait (which changes to her holding her breath) while underwater but so it’s easier to keep track of, she’ll have a meter above her head when she isn’t using Oxy Barrier underwater.
While we do have spells with durations, some of them won’t have a meter and rely on visual cues: a timed magma mine will blink when it's about to explode, time paradox clones should blink when they're about to fade, and shadow cloak should fade back to full visibility upon ending. As it is though, we will mention the duration of spells in their info box at the menu.
Tarquinn2049 asks:
Ok. This question is a bit on the other end amd might make me sound like a jerk due to timing. But does it support 4k? And if so is it by pixel doubling? I can totally play it at 1080p if hardware scaling will ultimately look better.
Our native resolution is 720p which we’ll be upscaling to 1080p. We won’t be able to provide 4K support as working primarily in 2D where our target resolution is 720p would require us to rework the assets in a larger size so as not to lose crispness of lines and pixels on a larger resolution.
Rob: The game looks freaking good on a 50-70 inch, though haha! I for one can't wait to playtest a lot on console (devkit).
DEVELOPMENT UPDATES
Unity editor-wise, Rob has been working on optimizing the code further. The sorting order of the game was archaic and clunky, so Rob decided to squish it down to a simpler and more effective form that relies on Sorting Order that Unity didn’t have early on during our development. We instead relied on Z index which required a lot of fiddling around with when setting objects up.
youtube
You can see in that test room video that the “Order in Layer” is changing value. Back then it would be the Z in the Position attributes and we’d have to manually set the value beforehand to make sure things appeared behind or in front of objects right.
youtube
Rob also implemented full analog movement instead of just the D-pad, this allows for more control, though it’ll need a bit of tweaking as it currently looks like Esmy’s skating along the ground like she’s about to break it down and provide everyone with boosted shields.
There’s been polish going on in multiple fronts on the graphical end as animations and environment assets get fixed.
Above is the fist weapons, we initially were going to go with brass knuckles but decided that it wouldn’t be that noticeable on the sprite unless we made it large but I wanted to make sure you wouldn’t miss the weapons so I designed these gauntlets that shows a bit of the transition from steamtech to cryamtech and also offers a more interesting silhouette while also making a bit more sense as a viable weapon against dangerous monsters.
The fists primary function work as a mashable combo. One press of the attack button does a jab, two presses in quick succession performs a jab and punch, three does a jab, punch, uppercut combo. It’s quick but it doesn’t have that much range or width in its melee attack range.
The second function is the parry which allows you to negate any damage if timed right. Rob’s in charge of securing the timing for all these as he’s the one in Unity and more well-versed with the parrying system this was inspired from (Street Fighter 3) so I trust he’ll make sure it’s balanced. We wanted to make the fists fun to use but even better if you master it and hopefully it’ll show.
The crossbow also underwent an animation rework during its polish phase. The old animation was too focused on being realistic that it didn’t look interesting (i.e. it looked too slow) and the crossbow already has it tough in being interesting when up against the pistols. So far everyone feels it looks much snappier now while still keeping to the timing of the old animation.
What differentiates the crossbow from the pistol is that Esmy can hold her shot and slowly strafe while doing so, only firing when you let go of the attack button. The crossbow also has different types of bolt quivers that you can equip. Currently we’re playing around with piercing properties and stagger/slowing/knockback properties.
We’re also looking into displaying the ammo/bolt count below Esmy everytime she fires so the player can easily keep track of their shots (we’ve been running on infinite ammo all this time just to get a feel of the weapon first before applying a limit).
The rapier’s animations will still need the pixel pass but its roughs are ready.
You’ll notice two phases in the rapier animation. The basic thrust and the secondary backdash. These are the primary and secondary functions of the weapon. One allows you to dash forward with a piercing strike and another for quick evasion, making the rapier a weapon all about mobility (which could be handy for speedrunning too).
The Ghilcrest buildings are undergoing their design polish as well. You’ve all seen the Cryatisium and Esmy’s Home and now the Inventorium and the Cafe are joining them in polished goodness.
The overworld environments have also been undergoing its rework. More unique object assets have been made and its design is now following the Overworld map that I completed.
Worry not about the above image. Though we do have Brax (and some other characters) following you at some points in the game, it’s not a dangerous escort mission where you’ll have to struggle to keep your companion alive, the Berribuns were added on the map just for this screenshot (they ignore Brax and only go for Esmy).
I’ve tried to incorporate hints of the past steamtech throughout areas of Noka Island that the settlers covered, some machines like the one on the screenshot above were retrofitted to use cryam instead of steam (I did receive comments on how the smoke blobs look more like rocks so I’ll probably change it to wispy smoke).
The HUD has also undergone a visual polish to make it look more bronze plated to go with the early post steampunk-ish feel.
I’ll be continuously working on more animations and environment asset polish all throughout while Rob cleans up code, works on other background assets or lays said assets out in the Unity editor.
ART SPOTLIGHT
Every now and then, Rob (and sometimes I) take a breather and make some art (which will all eventually end up in the artbook) so here’s some of the choice pieces as of late.
Rob made something that could be wallpaper material once he cleans it up in a higher res, it’s an array of Bliss in a custom outfit.
Another wallpaper-ish piece from Rob with Deseret, Bliss, and Sorbet looking all tough and showing what I’ll just assume to be Ghilcrest gang signs... despite it being a small community.
Here's a more realistic pin-up style Bliss that Rob also made.
Rob also pays tribute to Atlus’ Persona and Shin Megami Tensei series by rendering Esmy in Shigenori Soejima’s style.
I did the same and tried making a Shigenori Soejima tribute using his soft paint style commonly present in Stella Deus and some Persona art. I chose to represent Team Bliss.
COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT
We’ve also got a few new submissions of fanart from the community that we’re proud to share with everyone. We’re grateful to have all your support and enjoy seeing everyone’s renditions of the Cryamore cast.
@Cliffist pays tribute to the fab queen, Bliss because clearly, she’s supposed to be the star.
@boss_ruru also decides to rep Team Bliss with this lovely piece of Ms. Barson in one of her many alternate outfits.
