Never Alone (On Christmas Day)
A TLG christmas fic brought to you by yours truly. Takes place in a modern human au, where the Guard are young adult age range. For the purposes of this story, Kion works under Rafiki who runs a store (idk what he sells).
Merry Christmas TLG tumblr! I wanted to put something out for the season, and speedwrote this in like. 2 hours max last night. Due to that very reason, the following christmas tlg fic is extremely messy, rough and all over the place, for which I apologise. I tried brushing up whatever I could in the morning, and though itâs not my best work Iâm still pretty satisfied with it. Hope you enjoy either way, and Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays to you!

.***.
Kion really didnât mind that his Christmas might get wiled away thirdwheeling his sister and Kovu, and definitely doesnât mind that all his best friends are spending Christmas without him. Definitely doesnât mind that even his other friends, like Jasiri and Janja, are also busy with plans for Christmas. He also most definitely doesnât mind that heâs stuck working with Rafiki in his spiritual-y shop, and that Rafiki has unusually been working him to the bone these days. Doesnât care that the snow and the Christmas lights call to him, or that everytime his friends send him photos of their celebrations, his heart aches just a little bit.Â
Nope. Definitely doesnât mind.Â
Kion sighs, nearly letting the box of ornaments in his hand fall to the ground. He manages to save it just in time, however, and lets out another sigh, this time of relief, because he just saved himself another scolding from Rafiki. From somewhere around the extremely-messy-despite-his-best-attempts shop, he hears Rafiki laughing heartily with a customer. The sound fills the air, and as much as Kion hated to admit it, it pierces through his heart in a negative way. He canât help it; it seems as though the entire world, including even his own boss, is enjoying this season. The entire world, but him.
He makes his way towards the main counter, finding Rafiki and the customer he had been laughing with. He places the box on the table with a loud oomph, alerting the other two of his presence.
âAh, Kion! Kion! Come, meet Mrs. Janna!â Rafiki calls to him loudly, even though heâs right next to him. Kion forces a smile, because he doesnât want to dampen other peopleâs mood, and faces the âMrs. Jannaâ in question.
Sheâs an old lady, evident by the smile lines and crowâs feet on her face. Despite this, thereâs a general warmness to her that you donât usually find in older people, something akin to a crackling fire in the winter months. Mrs Janna smiles at Kion, genuine unlike Kionâs own. Kion thinks she knows his smile is only for pleasantries, but doesnât seem to mind.Â
âHabari, Kion?â Mrs. Janna asks, her voice deep and grounding. It reminds him of the recordings he heard of his grandfatherâs voice.
âSawa, Mrs. Janna, thank you,â Kion responds, trying his best not to let his despair seep into the conversation. He should get a hold of himself.
Rafiki laughs once more, giving Kion a pat on the back which feels more like a slap than any pat Kionâs ever gotten.Â
âKion here is unhappy these days, I wonât let him off work! Ah, Janna, what can you-a do? When the season arrives, that is when people come! Am I not right, Kion?âÂ
Kion lets out a nervous chuckle. âWell, I wouldnât say unhappy, but definitely a bit lonely.âÂ
âEy, ey, Kion,â Rafiki says, moving on from the previous topic, âMrs. Janna here has found someone who can help us! She is interested in working with me, isnât that right, Janna?âÂ
Mrs Janna nods, her eyes sparkling for just a moment. âIndeed, Rafiki. I do have someone whoâd like to come and work here, though sheâll be arriving after the New Years. Maybe then Kion might not be so unhappy, perhaps?âÂ
She looks to Kion, half teasing and half serious. Kion appreciates the sentiment nonetheless, and responds in the affirmative. Better to say yes than anything else, he supposes.Â
Itâs not long before the two are lost in their own conversation, something about old times and how things have changed so much. Kion decides to leave them to it and visit his favourite corner of the store; the little nook where their biggest window lies.Â
Itâs a little elevated, and sits right where their staircase turns. Kion has to climb up a bit in order to get to it, but he manages in the end, and itâs worth it. It doesnât have much space, just enough for Kion to sit in peace during his breaks, but the view outside is what makes it Kionâs favourite corner. The roads lie some way beneath the window, strangers passing by. These days, the numbers have multiplied. He credits it to the Christmas season, and how there must be families visiting relatives in their small town. Now, sitting in his space, he remembers that he, too, will be visiting his own family this Christmas.
Heâs not totally bummed out that heâs spending it with Kiara and Kovu; just that he wishes he could spend it with his friends instead. He loves his sister and brother-in-law to death, but Kiaraâs moodswings are more frequent nowadays due to the pregnancy hormones. Kion hasnât visited in a while to know how bad it is, but heâs dealth with her period hormones before, and Kion would rather do anything but go through that again, thank you very much.Â
Alas, the only other option is to stay in his apartment and hole up, since all his friends are out of town. He supposes that visiting his family, even if it means thirdwheeling, is still worth it.Â
Today, Kion finds himself watching the snow fall on the streets, snowflakes occasionally decorating the window beside him. Rafiki and Mrs. Jannaâs conversation can still he heard from where he is, but slowly the sound muffles and Kion feels his eyelids grow heavy. He knows Rafiki will call him back to work soon, but just for now, he lets his body shut down.Â
Just for now.Â
.***.
The big day has arrived, and boy has it kept Kion busy. Texts and notifications flood his phone screen before getting cleared out for later. Rafiki orders him about with customers here and there, the store bustling with company. Somehow, the loudest sound in the store isnât Rafikiâs voice today, and Kion finds his ears nearly bursting with how much chatter he can hear at once. Outside isnât any better, as snow collects itself in piles and trucks blare horns as they come to clear the pathways. People are shouting here and there, wishing each other a merry Christmas, and families flood the streets with little kids running around in mufflers and big, poofy jackets.Â
Itâs the busiest the town ever gets, and will ever get. Kionâs become accustomed to it, though the sight of friends and families and their joyful faces as they spend the day together does sting just a bit. He gets more than a dozen texts from his friends, all of them wishing him a merry Christmas. Amongst them lies his sister and his conversation, where Kiara is going on about something that Kion canât comprehend because his mind is in a whirl when heâs in work mode. It canât be that important, if Kiaraâs not calling him about it, and so Kion decides to read through the messages once he gets his break.Â
âKion! Where are you?â Rafiki calls from somewhere. Kion chuckles to himself, glad that his Christmas is at least starting with someone familiar.Â

Kion groans to himself as horns blare at him and his taxi in the middle of traffic because of course there would be traffic on the busiest and most celebratory day in all the year. He opens his phone for what feels like the twelfth time, the bright screen burning into his retina as he scrolls through all the unresponded messages. He booked a taxi the minute he got off work, and somehow despite being two hours into traffic, he still has no energy to reply to all his friends and family.Â
Why did the meet-up place have to be on the busiest street?Â
He lazily scrolls through his chats, trying his best to ignore his driverâs cursing and horns that were still blaring at Spirits know what. His fingers pad his screen, finding their way to his best friendsâ and his groupchat. Without actually wanting to, Kion opens it.Â

best bud!! 6:58 p.m. This message was deleted. best bud!! 6:58 p.m. wait nevermind wrong group emergency no. (fuli) 6:59 p.m. This message was deleted.
Kion is just about to type a message, when he finds himself lurching forward. He nearly hits his head against the back of the front seat, mumbling curses to himself. His taxi driver apologies, blaming a car or two in front of him. Kion doesnât respond, instead going back to his phone. Where before there was the groupchat with his best friends, his keyboard open and ready for a message, there now lies a black screen.Â
Kion knows itâs not that deep, but somehow it manages to sprout tears from his eyes, and before he knows it thereâs streams flowing down his face while he tries his best to keep quiet so his driver doesnât make a fuss. He misses his friends. He was going to meet some of his family, but somehow he misses them too. Itâs as if heâs been aching for them the entire day, the entire season. Christmas without them doesnât feel right, and Kion feels a hollow, aching pain inside his chest. His friends were somewhere celebrating while he was stuck in traffic, a mess both physically and mentally. He missed his homeâ his true home.Â
Unfortunately, the road itself doesnât give him any time to wallow in sadness as his driver is now speeding through. Kion hurriedly rubs tears away, trying his best to look composed, and finds that theyâre no longer stuck in traffic. He recognises the area now, and quickly sends his sister a message saying heâs almost there. He takes a deep breath, maybe two, and the thought of meeting his sister in a couple of minutes manages to cheer him up just a bit.Â
The taxi soon halts in front of the location, and Kion is slightly surprised to find that the place heâs meant to go to is some basement belonging to the house right in front of him. After double-checking with his sister, he pays the driver and makes his way towards the basement door.Â
He takes in another breath.Â
Two.
No time to sit in self-pity, Kion, he tells himself, just.. enjoy the moment. You can call your friends later. Donât be whiny about it.
He pushes the door open and leads himself down the staircase, groaning to himself once more when he finds the room dark and otherwise empty. Heâs just about to look around for a light switch and call his sister, when all of a sudden the room bursts with warmth, joy and light as the actual lights turn on, too. Kion blinks a couple of times courtesy of the sudden change, but soon heâs opening his eyes to findâ
âMERRY CHRISTMAS!â yells Bunga, Beshte, Ono and Fuli. His friends. His friends that he thought he would be spending Christmas without. His friends that he thought were faraway and not right before him. His friends that he somehow got because Spirits does Kion not deserve them at all.
âHey, I know what youâre thinking,â Bunga says, a stern glance directed towards him, âand to be clear, you do deserve all of this.â
Kion sputters, still recovering from the shock. He takes a look around the basement itself, and finds it well decorated, with some cakes set on a table and a beautifully lit Christmas tree behind his friends. He struggles to find his words, and is left with his mouth agape.
âHowâ butâ Kiara..â
âKiara helped us plan the entire thing, and, just to be clear, youâre still spending the rest of the season with her,â Fuli explains, making her way towards Kion and giving him a good pat on the back in an attempt to bring him back to reality.
âHowever, you will be spending tonight and the next two days with us,â Ono continues, a wide smile painting his face. âWeâve already planned everything out, and weâll be having a huge slumber party right here for tonight.â
âThe blankets and pillows are arriving in a bit, we had to rely on your sister for that too,â Beshte says, a sheepish grin on his own face.
âButâ wait, whose basement even is this?â Kion finally gains enough of a hold on himself to say.
Here, Bunga steps forward and proceeds to perform elaborate moves before proudly standing in front of his bestest friend.
âThis would be my unclesâ brotherâs sister-in-lawâs friendâs basement! They talked it all out; said weâre lucky enough to get in even for a night.â
Kion is still trying to digest everything in when he feels his phone buzz and sound a notification. Itâs a message from Kiara.
dada kiara 8:27 p.m. Tell your friends weâll be there in a bit, yea? dada kiara 8:27 p.m. Hope you enjoy little bro <3
He canât help but smile, feeling a little silly about all his worry a couple of minutes ago. He looks back up to his friends, all surrounding him, radiating joy, love, and home. He feels the same things bursting in his chest, and Kion canât help but give in to his impulses. Just this once.
He tackles all of them down to the ground and pushes them into a hug. A flurry of laughter fills the air, and itâs the best Christmas gift Kion has ever gotten.
Still squeezing them as best as he can, while stretching his arms out too, he thanks them and thanks them, before finally screaming and yelling as loudly and as lovingly as he canâ
Merry Christmas.

Entangled desires. Leah Williamson x Alexia putellas x reader.
Part 1
Fuck me!â You semi yelled at your TV.
âOnly if you beg me for it.â Said your girlfriend with a smirk on her face. You were both laying on the couch. She was laying on your lap reading a book, while you were watching the Arsenal vs Chelsea game. Chelsea have just broke through the backline and scored a goal. In their defense the goal was pretty incredible, but you hated that your team got scored against.
â I would love for you to fuck me amor but not now, I am too busy â you joked. âYou have been stressed for about 50 minutes now. I think you need a release.â She said sarcastically, The book is now laying on her chest. â Mi Reina, this game is so important for my sanity right now.â you respond. She didn't talk after that, she just turned on her side, her head still on your lap. She put the book aside and focused on the game.
The rest of the match was pretty exciting. There were some missed shots from both teams, a goal from Arsenal, some decent shot blocks from the Arsenal defense, and just overall a lot of tension. Alexia stood up from your lap by the time the final whistle blew. She was alert and satisfied. You were more than happy with Chelsea's defeat since you were a die hard Arsenal supporter. As a result, in celebration, you kissed your girlfriend. The kiss was soft and filled with passion. You then pushed Alexia on her back, straddled her lap and kissed her hard. You didn't want any space between you two. You were hungry for her, needy for her, all you wanted was her touch. The adrenaline from the game took over your body. Suddenly, it all went away and was replaced by tiredness. â It's okay baby it happens.â She confronted you because you pulled out of the kiss and sighed loudly.
â I am so sorry.â You apologized. â Let's go cook dinner instead. Then we can finish later.â She added, a small smile on her face.
At the dinner table you sat opposite each other. You were both comfortable in the silence.
â That arsenal defense was really good today.â She said, breaking the silence.
âYeah, most of them are lionesses, so they are pretty good.â You answer.
â Leah Williamson, the center back, is the captain of England right?â
â She is the captain, she also captained the team today. She is pretty good.â
â She was excellent today, made some pretty good deflections.â
â And?â
â What do you mean?.â
â Mi Reina, tell me what you think.â
â Well she is kind of attractive I guess. If you tell this to someone you won't like your punishment.â
â Baby relax,I won't. I promise. Now let's go finish what we started after the game.â
â What do you think about her?â
â Leah ? Well I agree with you she is hot.â
â----------------
Tonight was one of the best nights of the year. The fifa best awards. This night was special because you were being awarded the best female player in the world which made you very proud of yourself. You were also proud of your girlfriend who made it into the best starting 11 in the world along with you and a few legends of the game.
You and Alexia got ready in the same room. You decided on an emerald green corseted dress that highlighted your chest and your brown hair. Alexia decided on an all black 3 piece suit paired with a red lip and her hair down.
The day leading to the ceremony had nothing out of the ordinary. You did your media duties, got ready, and left for the red carpet.
You and Alexia looked like a power couple, all the cameras were on you two, two of the most awarded and talented footballers. The ceremony was no different either. Kelley Smith presented you with your award and you thanked the most important people in your life in your speech. You talked to a few people but that was it. All the fun started at the after party.
While you were at the bar getting drinks your girlfriend was far from you talking to some people.
âCan I get two vodka sodas please?â You asked the bartender.
âCan you please make that tree?â Said a British voice from behind you. You turned around to find that the voice was Leah's.
â Vodka soda is the athlete's best choice of drink right? ?â she asked.
â I guess so.â you respond.
â I am Leah Williamson.â She added.
â I know who you are. You are pretty recognizable.â
â Not as much as the woman of the hour. Congrats on your award by the way. Spanish football is lucky to have you.â
You blushed at her words, that's when your drinks were ready. You wanted to talk to her more.
â Why don't you join me and Alexia at our table?.â You asked hoping to get a yes
âOnly for a little while I have my own people to tend to.â She responded.
You proceeded to guid Leah to your table. On your way there you passed alexia who said goodbye to the people she was with to join you too.
â Ale this is Leah williamson. Leah, this is my lovely girlfriend Alexia.â you introduced the girls.
â It's very nice to meet you alexia. We should have met a long time ago.â said Leah
â I am glad we met too. How are you finding the night.â said Alexia. You knew your girlfriend well to know when she is nervous and right now she was clearly nervous, other people wouldn't spot it very well.
â it's pretty boring actually. This is the most exciting thing that happened tonight.â responded Leah.
Your relationship with Alexia was common knowledge. However, Leah was flirting with the both of you for the better part of the hour and a half that Leah stayed with you. Throughout this time you talked about everything from football to your childhood. Several compliments and flirtatious attempts were made by all 3 of you. Leahâs phone was ringing for most of the time but she didn't answer. She then got a text saying that her teammates left and that she should go to the hotel because the party venue was almost empty. You didn't realise the time that passed, you were too immersed in the fun all of you were having. You were sitting on a couch, Alexiaâs hand on your thighs occasionally caressing them, and Leah sat opposite you on a chair.
â I can't believe they left without me.â she complained.
â Well they did call you several times but you blew them off.â you responded.
â but still how am i supposed to talk to them and miss out a second with you two.â
â You can come with us. We are staying at the same hotel right?â suggested Alexia.
â yeah but I don't want to intrude.â
â nonsense, consider it an extension of this lovely night.â you added.
You then got out of the venue. You held Alexiaâs hand while Leah walked to your other side.
The car ride was quiet. â I would kill for a burger right now.â you whispered in your girlfriendâs ear because you were nuzzled in her neck. She then ushered for the driver to change direction to the nearest fast food chain.
â one quick stop before we release you.â you apologized to leah running you hand on her thigh quickly.
â No, not at all. I really want this to go on forever.â she responded.
The car stopped, you got your order, Leah and Alexia got a meal too after you provoked your puppy eyes.
You were now blissful on the hotel floor, and eating your burger with Leah Williamson and Alexia putellas. You were focused more on leah than on your burger.
â shit i dont have my key card. I left it with Keira. God i am such a fucking idiot. â she said after she finished.
â Don't ever say that about yourself.â said Alexia who was quieter than usual.
â what she means is it's fine you can stay here. it's too late to wake her up.â you corrected.
â No, I can't do that .â she said frantically.
â Yes you can and you will. It's too late to do anything. Plus we can hang out more. And we can put it to a vote and we both want you here.â said alexia before taking the last bite of her burger.
â Alexia I can't. There is something. I just can't.â she said before heading towards the door.
Alexia got up and stopped her by her wrist. â Look, it's alright, stay. Please. â she said softly.
â alexia almost never says please.â you added.
â There is this unresolved tension in me. I can't hide it anymore.â she added, now looking at the floor.
Alexia lifted her head up by her chin, and at that moment we were all nervous. We all shared a look with each other, then looked at the floor, then at each other again. The silence was deafening. We all were thinking the same thing. It was just the matter of who starts.

SKZ Pack Chapter 18
Trigger Warnings: angst, mentions of stalking, swearing
"What are you doing here?" Minho growled out, his eyes scanning for his mate. "Minho," Chan warned. "You have got to be kidding me. Where is Y/N?" Minho's voice was strained. "I'll find her." Jeongin left to go and find the wolf who was sitting in the other room. Jeongin held her hand, taking her to the nervous elder. "Come. Here." Minho growled, he needed her close to him. He didn't trust the intruder in the house and quite frankly he was fuming at Chan for letting him near their mate. "Min?" Y/N called out as she wrapped her arms around him. She could feel his wolf rising to the surface. "She's a pretty wolf-" "Do not speak to her Joshua." Minho snarled. "Minho! That is enough. Leave. I will speak to you later." Chan alpha demanded. Minho hesitated but took Y/N upstairs and into his room. He was irrevocably angry. He didn't understand why Joshua had decided out of the blue to finally show his face. Chan better have a good reason. Minho thought as he hugged his mate tighter. Y/N buried her head into his neck, sniffing his scent gland as she tried to calm herself down, is anger made her feel worried. "He shouldn't be here," Minho grumbled. "I don't know what's going on, but he turned up an hour ago, saying he wanted to apologise to Chan. I think Chan wants to hear him out. Chan isn't stupid, our alpha isn't stupid." Y/N nuzzled him. "He can be stupid. The guy thinks he's a seer." Minho admitted. "What are you talking about?" Y/N asked.
Minho breathed out and looked into his mate's grey eyes. He was hesitating telling her as he probably should discuss it with Chan but he also wanted to tell her about her brother Joshua. Minho decided he might as well brief her on his findings today, but it ended up being a full discussion. As soon as Y/N worked out he met with Jackson and Joshua she had to ask what he discussed with them. Minho even wondered at this point whether Y/N had come across him, but according to Y/N her mother kept her away from all of this. Even Jackson tried to hide his crimes. It was only the gossip of the wolves that discussed it, so Y/N never really knew the person who caused her to be given to Ateez. It was all too messy for them but they had to wait. They needed to wait until Joshua left because now they had conspiracy theories. The thing that had hurt Y/N overall was her older brother knew and allowed it to happen. All her siblings knew she was being sold and no one stopped them. It hurt Y/N deeply and Minho could see that as he held her closer, holding her.
The two of them broke away when Chan called a family meeting which made Y/N laugh. It was ironic in a way. Chan waited for them all in the living room so he could explain what had happened since he knew the wolves would start to have a mind of their own. Chan explained to them that Joshua had come knocking on his door because he wanted to make amends. Chan admitted he didn't trust him but allowed him to apologise and at least hear him out on what he did to Chan as a young wolf. For Chan, it gave him some closure from all the wounds he had and it healed some insecurities which made the wolves proud but there was still some questions they had. Why was he stalking her? According to what Joshua told Chan it wasn't him and he in no way sent any threatening letter. Chan knew deep down it wasn't true, but the man had a way with words. Chan promised he wasn't going to let Joshua anywhere near their mate which relieved the wolves.
Still, there were questions arousing the wolves and they still weren't satisfied with what Chan had said. They needed a stipulation in place. "I still don't understand. He smells and looks like the man I attacked so why is he lying." Seungmin questioned. "Not only that he's manipulating you all over again." Changbin added as he pulled Y/N closer into his arms. "I am aware of that. I will not let him get close. I have a feeling he has an underlying gain and he needs me for it." Chan stated. Minho frowned, wondering what gain the uncle could possibly be. Either way, Chan should not be playing him at his own game. Chan would lose and none of the wolves wanted to be a part of Joshua's mess. "If Joshua ever does reappear, which he will. I want someone to take Y/N out until he leaves. I don't want him near her. If something happens to me again, Hyunjin I trust you to lead until I get back on my feet." Chan stated. "Do not talk like that. As long as nothing happens to Y/N we will all be fine." Hyunjin stated. "Question?" Seungmin asked. "What?!" Chan sighed. "Does that mean our New Year's holiday in the Alps is cancelled this year?" Seungmin asked while everyone gave him a look. "We have a problem here and you're thinking about New Years?" Changbin scolded. "We will carry on as normal like we do but we need to be hyper aware of anything and yes Seungmin, I haven't cancelled it but it was going to be a surprise for Y/N!" Chan stated. The wolves nodded and got up to leave the room when Felix pulled Y/N back down with a whine.
Y/N allowed Felix to embrace her. He nuzzled into his mark that presented nicely on her shoulder as he kissed her gently. Y/N stroked his blonde hair wondering why he was so needy when she smelt his scent spike. "Lixie are you alright?!" Y/N cooed. Felix hummed and held her tighter as he sprawled out on her. "Feeling anxious. Worried about you." Felix whined. "Hmm. As long as I'm with you, I'm always safe my little protector." Felix frowned at her playfully. "Not little, baby," Felix said, making her laugh. "Sorry Lix. What was that?" Y/N asked as he heard a crash from up stairs. Y/N got up to see who it was, only to find a distressed Minho who kicked over the floor plant as he was carrying his stuff. "Min? Are you alright?" Y/N asked. "Yes. Yes. Um. I need you to cook this week until I'm better. " Minho said quickly as he ran out the stairs confusing Y/N until it hit her. Minho was having his rut, but why didn't he tell her? Did all of this commotion and stress cause him to go into an early rut or was he meant to have a rut now.

hey ive been seeing this hc on other blogs but what is ur hc on pony having to go to the doctor? like darry in waiting room with him, then pony forcing him to come into the exam room and silently looks to darry to answer every question the doctor asks of him. do you think darrel gets frusturated by pony or is he in full overprotective guardian mode of "he said his stomach hurts!" at the doctor.
Iâve seen a few of these too and I love what everyoneâs come up with so I have no idea if Iâm gonna be original but I wanna talk abt this soooođŤś
Pony HATES going to the doctor. That shit scares him so bad. His parents had to drag him kicking and screaming out the door and as a freshly turned 14 yr old, nothingâs changed. He still hates it. Sure, Darryâs not pulling his legs while Pony holds onto the door extreme, but heâs moping all the way over there.
Darryâs never wanted a frontal lobotomy more than during his first time taking Pony into the doctorâs office.
After heâs finished filling out the insurance part of the paperwork in the waiting room, he passes it off to Pony to answer the rest seeing as itâs his appointment. Pony ends up reading every question out to Darry like heâs supposed to answer it for him.
âItâs asking if I have any stomach pain.â
âDo you?â
âNo.â
âThen write no.â
âOh, okay.â
âŚ
âItâs asking if I have any joint pain.â
Darryâs head is in his hands.
They finally get into the exam room and when the nurse tries to get him to follow her to measure his height, weight, blood pressure, vision, he just looks at Darry like he expects him to come with. Darry just gestures for him to go with the nurse like literally every other time heâs had to do this.
The nurse brings him back after an incredible series of âYou want me to take my shoes offđ¤¨â and âAm I supposed to get on thatđâ (the scale). When she closes the door, Pony collapses back into the chair like heâs just been through an ordeal. Heâs giving Darry the nastiest side eye and Darryâs just like âDo you really have to make this so complicated, all you have to do is sit there and let them look at youâ but Pony hits him with the âYou werenât even there broâ
The doctor comes in and tries to make friendly small talk, just asking what grade heâs in and what kinds of school activities he does.
âSo, what kind of physical activities do you partake in?â
Pony looks at Darry.
âHe does track.â
âAlright, good. What would you say your diet is made up of, Ponyboy?â
Silence.
âHe eats his vegetables. Lots of chocolate cake, though, nearly every day. Iâm sure you want him to cut back on that.â
âEvery day? Ha! Yes, I would advise that a young track star like you should limit your sugar intake.â
Darry has no intention of following through on that, but heâs satisfied with the heat Pony glares at him with. Darry is a shithead of an older brother when heâs taking Pony to the doctor. If Pony gives him the reigns heâs gonna fuck with him so hard. Like yeah heâs pretty sure itâll help Pony to speak up for himself more, but Darryâs absolutely doing it more for his own entertainment.
And also they find out that Ponyâs reflexes are garbage. The doctor gets his little hammer out and knocks on Ponyâs knee. That shit doesnât move until heâs about to move onto the other knee. Darry is in shock.
Overall a great day out for two-thirds of the Curtis brothers, 0/10 wouldnât recommend

Well, globally I still really liked the Saurondriel / Haladriel scene.
Even if I don't see where the comparison comes from at the request of Kylo Ren / Ben Solo to Rey in The Last Jedi...
There is not even a real renewal of the demand for season 1 in fact technically speaking in my opinion.
Although I did appreciate that Sauron said he didn't want to harm Galadriel at first. That he would have placed the crown on his head, done everything so that Middle Earth would revere its queen, etc. I also appreciated the moment where he took the form of Halbrand and even that of Galadriel to show her in his twisted way that everything was not a lie and that they are alike. I also enjoyed the tear in his eye when he watches Galadriel reveal herself before demanding Nenya after he actually stabbed her. I'll take every scrap I can get from this doomed ship.
On the other hand, I don't understand those who say that this scene confirms that all of season 1 was just a deception by Sauron towards Galadriel.
I'm sure you're disappointed, because I am disappointed myself. But I don't see at all where their whole scene confirms that Sauron would have fooled Galadriel all season 1.
On the contrary, he literally tells her that she attributes to him a purpose that he did not predict, with the eregion currently, and that everything that made them seem similar was not entirely a lie/a deception, etc.
Here, it's clearly just the frustration of the moment that makes a certain person say anything.
Personally, I'm a little disappointed that Sauron ultimately really hurt Galadriel. Even if my imaginative mind sees this moment as the only equivalent of symbolically phalic penetration that there will ever be between them đ¤. And above all, this blow was not aimed at killing her at all. Because if he had wanted it, she would already be dead. We have seen how easily he can kill someone.
Also, I've seen people theorize that this crown going into Galadriel's flesh could actually strengthen the bond between them later, and why not ! I'm hooked ! This could totally work !
Overall, I'm disappointed that he didn't let her keep Nenya. How logical that would have been to me, as supposed proof to see that he really loves her in this finale. Even though we still see Sauron's feelings for her, it's not to the point of a particular moment that would undeniably prove his feelings to idiots who already don't understand him, and still don't understand him.
I'm disappointed that I was promised a new request scene when technically not, although I enjoyed Sauron's dialogue all the same.
But most of all, I'm disappointed that he let Galadriel fall off that cliff. You're not going to make me believe that with his powers, he couldn't save her ?! Especially since he wanted Nenya, so why not try to get her back with magic ?! Why is he just holding out his hand towards Galadriel with a shocked expression on his face ?! Use your powers damn't !
Although I imagine that as enemies they will often try to kill each other, yes, obviously. I just expected it to be more save for later than now (at least from Sauron watching Galadriel fall), literally their first reunion since the separation.
Does Sauron think Galadriel is dead ? Or that she just escaped from him ? It was (first option or the second) he so angry about this that he killed the orc on the spot ? Or is it because he just didn't get Nenya ? I think a mix of the two personally, Sauron having had a tear in his eye watching Galadriel get up earlier.
In fact, I think I would have been pretty much satisfied with their scene, if I hadn't been sold that we would particularly see that Sauron really loves Galadriel in this finale. That there was a scene similar to Kylo's request to Rey from The Last Jedi, and that Sauron would never stop trying to make Galadriel his queen. Because that's not really what we got.
Because overall I like this scene.
Sauron shows emotion there, the desire not to hurt Galadriel at the start, expresses that everything was not a lie between them, tries in his twisted way to prove that they are similar, that the door to Galadriel's mind is always open to him, says that he would have done anything for her to be queen and revered, has a tear in his eye when he sees her get up after having hurt her, etc.
But overall, this scene between them was half-hearted and could have been written so much better. Wasted potential. Especially after all the crumbs laid out in each episode in anticipation of this meeting, and what was a teaser in an interview for the so-called finale between them.
But I'll take what I get, and in the future won't listen to the cast / creator interviews for this show, just to settle for what the Saurondriel / Haladriel scenes really are.

Aaaaand everyone give it up for WASTED POTENTIAL
Season finale spoilers under the cut
Okay. I'll be honest. The finale was... not what I was hoping for.
I tried so hard to remain optimistic. I truly believed they could pull it all together and everything was going to have a satisfying conclusion. But I guess that's my fault. I set my expectations too high.
Is this about Tech? Primarily, yes. Yes it was. I am so disappointed. And you can make fun of me all you want but I genuinely believed, with all my heart, that CX-2 was Tech.
BECAUSE WHY THE FUCK ELSE WAS THERE SO MUCH EMPHASIS ON HIM
There was so much to suggest that CX-2 was somebody we knew. We spent so much time on him, suffered through so many completely unnecessary, in hindsight, close up shots and random pieces of episodes that focus on him, only for him to get javelined through the middle in the span of half a second.
It feels like the writers were just making fun of the viewers, at this point. Haha, can you believe they actually thought?
Yes, we did think! Did you?
Tech's death was so... unconvincing. They didn't even try. Not only was his life "cut short" in the midst of his character development, said death was caused by falling, without any other kind of injury, while we watch him disappear into the clouds. And then we see no body and only have his broken goggles as "evidence" of his death. What the hell else were we supposed to assume?
That's not even bringing up that Tech gets maybe three mentions all throughout the entire season. The show never touches on how the death of one of their squadmates, people they have known since birth, affects the batch. Not once do they ever say out loud that Tech is dead until the fucking finale.
This isn't just me reading too closely between the lines. This is genuinely bad writing. It's loading chekhov's gun and then refusing to shoot it.
Even if CX-2 wasn't Tech, or even somebody we knew, the way he is treated suggests that he was supposed to be important. He was supposed to be be relevant. And now, he's neither!
Furthermore, where fuck was everybody? Where was Rex with the reinforcements to storm the base? Where was Wolffe deciding he didn't want anything to do with the Empire anymore? Where was Cody? Where was Phee in all of this?
Where was Cid? So we're just... not going to get any kind of closure for that? We spend two entire seasons with her, then she just betrays them and we never see her again? Even if they didn't redeem her, that feels like pretty damn bold move.
The Zillo beast does... barely anything. Really? It just breaks out and moves away from the biggest source of energy it will ever find after causing the slightest amount of property damage to two rooms, and storms off into the woods, and that's all we get? Seriously?
And then once we get to the time jump... Echo's gone. Again. Either still off with Rex, if he hasn't gone into hiding yet, or died off screen. Neither is a good nor satisfying ending for his character. But I guess shouldn't be surprised by that. When have the writers ever cared about Echo?
The biggest problem with the whole thing is that it didn't feel like a finale. It felt like a normal episode, just slightly longer. The Bad Batch returned to Pabu, because I guess there are no consequences from the Batch being discovered there before and the empire decided that they were just going to... leave it alone, and everything returns to the status quo. That's not what a finale does, Dave.
Maybe I'm being too harsh. There were parts that I enjoyed. I'm glad Hunter, Wrecker, and Crosshair got their happy endings. Seeing Omega all grown up really did something to my heart. But overall I am just so frustrated.

I feel like I should write out some proper thoughts about my opinions on Veilguard, or at least an outline for the much longer essay that is currently calcifying in my heart. It's a mixed bag of a reaction, and I'm not going to compliment sandwiching any of it--this is all just stream of consciousness, so I'm probably going to snag on the negative and spiral down that pretty quickly. Spoilers, obviously:
I liked the battle system. For the first time in a DA game, it actually felt satisfying to play and had its own identity. I do wish the Pokemon element aspect was a little better balanced among the companions, but overall it was great.
That said, considering the length of the game, they needed way more enemy diversity, especially with the bosses. Eventually I was just fighting dragons, and every dragon had essentially the same moveset, one of those moves being "the dragon trips over her own dick and face-plants on top of Rook", which sure doesn't make the fights feel epic. Even very unique characters, like the Gloom Howler, were just reskinned basic demons when it came time to fight them.
The decision to tie companion approval to companion levels was a mistake. A massive and extremely obvious mistake. No wonder there are no disagreements or tension among the group--the game can't let you lose affinity with your team members, because then it would have to account for you leveling them down. The gameplay design here strangled the narrative design in its crib.
Speaking of narrative design: while I appreciate that the modular approach to companion arcs was experimental, it was extremely weird of them to take that approach in the only DA game where all companions are required. The story doesn't have to be written to account for the fact that you might not recruit some of them or they might die early--so why didn't they write one story about Rook and their seven friends instead of one story about Rook and also there are seven smaller, unrelated stories of extremely varying quality shoved in next to it?
The hyperfixation on the companion quests paired with their complete compartmentalization from each other means that each companion basically has nothing going on outside of their own quest and very few opportunities to engage with other characters' quests.
I was so starved for conflict in this game that I went from Solas-neutral to Solas-positive because he was the only character who the game allowed to be a bitch to me, and I respect him for that.
I do like all the horrid little sons the game gives me. I think I would appreciate them more if there was anything bad or tense happening in the story on a personal level that required some comic relief, but I am a sucker for a funky little guy none the less, and Manfred, Assan, and Spite are the perfect trifecta of funky little guys, as far as I'm concerned.
"We're only going to do character cameos if it's important to the plot." *does what they did with Isabela* Okay, devs.
"We aren't importing player choices but we won't override your decisions either." *several codex entries overriding player decisions later* Okay, devs.
I like the companions, generally. I see their potential. Fanfic will do right by them. Harding, in my mind, is the weakest of the bunch, just truly having no personality to speak of and talking like she was written by a Boomer who thinks that Millennials are still teenagers. (Everyone responsible for her uttering the phrase "Awkward..." like she's a character in 2011 quirky girl sitcom should be tried at the fucking Hague, istg.) And while I like Bellara, it was extremely frustrating to have a character that's just "Merrill, again, but with the edges sanded off". Taash and Emmerich are also glaringly the last additions in the writing process, each belonging to one of the two most underbaked factions and neither of them being tied to any of the game's few "big choices". There's promise in this cast, but I don't think any of them came close to realizing their potential.
Davrin and Emmerich's companion quests felt appropriately scoped to the size of the questlines, had good emotionality, good antagonists, and expanded on the lore of Thedas in ways we hadn't seen yet.
Lucanis's companion quest had potential, but it was too unfocused with three antagonists, too much attention to the boring Venatori shit, and not enough examination on Illario's motives or Lucanis's relationships with either Spite or Illario.
Harding's companion quest was fine, I guess (the people are starving for dwarf lore), but Harding could have been swapped out with literally any other dwarven character who wasn't Sandal and nothing would have been different. (Also weird that the whole quest was basically about Sandal while simultaneously fully removing Sandal from the narrative.)
Bellara and Neve's companion quests were just nothing. Just a whole lot of nothing. And Neve's also suffered from what I like to call "machete editing", where it is glaring obviously where things were cut, changed, moved around, and added at the last minute.
I say, from the bottom of my non-binary heart: Taash's companion quest is total ass. Real nice of Mae to come out of hiding and risk being found and executed by the Venatori to give Taash a Queer Theory 101 class, though, I fucking guess.
Is Lucanis's romance bugged? Apparently I'm not the only one who had that thought while I was playing it, so now I'm wondering. Like, there's no way they made it Like That on purpose, right?
Why and how are the Venatori still a force in Thedas, never mind a force with numbers so great (in spite of lacking a central leader) that they were able to simultaneously occupy the two largest cities in Thedas?
They literally didn't even try with the Antaam. The Venatori are at least theoretically still working to try to restore Tevinter to its former imperial might. The Antaam are just invading countries for literally no reason except ill-defined power grabs. Given the racial coding of Qunari, this writing choice sure is...something. (And that something is racist.)
That said, the revelation that the Butcher did a military tour in Europe and fell in love with the culture and just wants to drink wine and visit art museums now is fucking hilarious.
What the absolute FUCK did they do the Crows. I like the Crow characters from Tevinter Nights/the comics, and Zevran is my favorite character in the whole damn franchise, but they completely whitewashed both TN's mafia take on them and their original portrayal in DA:O. But it also doesn't really retcon anything, making it instead seem like the human trafficking and torture and sexual abuse that Zevran suffered at the Crows' hands A) only happened to him individually, and B) are fine, actually??? Even the very few times that characters express reservations about working with Lucanis because he's an assassin, if you play as a Crow, those concerns get immediately backpedaled, so the Crows end up being so ironed out that the game doesn't even let characters say of the Crows, "Murder is bad," lest it hurt a Crow Rook's feelings. That is how conflict-averse the writing is.
So I guess everyone in southern Thedas is...dead now? Several characters survived long enough to get a mention from the Inquisitor, but by the end, it sounds like Orlais, Ferelden, and most of the Free Marches are pretty much donezo. When Epler said the events in southern Thedas didn't matter, I didn't expect that to mean they were going to nuke the damn place. Even having generally enjoyed VG (in spite of all my criticisms here) that, uh...doesn't leave me enthused about the future of the franchise, ngl.
The layoffs of several writers (and other Bioware employees) before the game's release was obviously heinous. But after that secret ending, I'm now of the mind that of the writers that remain, at least a few of them need to be demoted. Like literally what the fuck was that. That was the dumbest plot point to ever appear in a Dragon Age game, and that is a high bar to clear. If you're not going to acknowledge our past choices, then keep Loghain's name out of your fucking mouths.

Pristine Cut new routes!
I've currently played through all of the new routes (as in the new branches of Specter, Damsel, and Prisoner) and I just wanted to get all of my initial thoughts down and share them with you guys!
So
I TALK SPOILERS, DONT CLICK THE READ MORE BUTTON IF YOU HAVENT SEEN THE NEW ROUTES OR ARE NEW TO THE GAME
The Princess and the Dragon was the first one I did and FINALLY SEEING THE LONG QUIET IN FULL because we're inside the Princess's body is AMAZING!
Like?????
And the fact it confirms that LQ just stares when he's talking with the other voices, and the voices can share control of the body and they actually have distinct mannerisms! For sure now one of my favorite chapters!
The Cage's design is SO COOL! I'm not disappointed in how the Cage turned out cuz the way the Woods look and the Cabin being on a floating island makes it one of the more distinct Ch.3s. I will say that I am disappointed in how my run of the Chapter went cuz Skeptic turned into one of the worst voices for me when he's paired with Paranoid (my favorite voice and unfortunately).
I've heard that there's actually a bunch of variations for this chapter that end up with a happier ending, but the one I got where LQ gets decapitated and he just watches his body fight the Princess's felt a bit too jaded for my tastes. I'm gonna be experimenting to see what else I can do!
And finally...
OH MY GOD HAPPILY EVER AFTER IS OFFCIALLY THE BEST CHAPTER IN THE GAME!!! (in my opinion!)
I'll be honest, Damsel wasn't really my favorite because going through it as it was was just kind of...boring. Deconstructed Damsel was far more interesting because it pointed out the problems with her as she is (and the doodle is hilarious to boot). The Burned Grey, while a cool design, also wasn't really all that impressive to me because that chapter always ends with you and her burning together (but I do get what that route was trying to get at, which is how destructive a person blinded by love can be).
Happily Ever After takes that same idea and applies it to the fricking Smitten! SMITTEN!!
We finally have a chapter where Smitten is taken to the extreme and I'm all for it. The way he kills us to get to it is fricking terrifying, and the form he ends up taking to control the Princess is also heartbreaking (pun partially intended).
BUT HAVING THE FRICKING NARRATOR FINALLY REALIZE HOW BAD HIS IDEA IS AS WELL?????
Him witnessing first hand the torture of having someone else tell you what to do and how you should be happy as well as what stagnant, never-changing life actually looks like....
And him getting a mini-redemption arc out of itđĽ˛
And gaaaaaahhhhhhh that final dance under the stars with her was perfectđđđ
I actually didn't want this Princess to go and was so sad when she got picked up by Shifty (its what I felt towards Thorn but like 10x worse).
Overall, I honestly believe that "Princess and the Dragon" & "Happily Ever After" can make great final princesses before Shifty is fully reconstructed. HEA even more so because of Narrator's redemption and I have the sneaking suspicion that getting this as the last Princess might actually change his opinions when you meet him.
The Cage was pretty good, but like I said I need to see a more uplifting variation of it to be more satisfied with the chapter itself.

Aoi Ryugoku
Name: Aoi Ryugoku
Gender: Female
Class: 2-2
Club: Student Council
Persona: Dangerous
Reputation:
Overall: +40
Liked: -30
Respected: +50
Feared: +100
Crush: None
Strength: Carries Pepper Spray
__
I feel like this is an important fact to start off on: Aoi and Megami have known each other since kids in my story. I don't think the other students know this, but I can say that this is pretty important in regards to how she currently acts.
Even though I am writing a story for all of this, I admit I've been nervous to write any sort of backstory for the student council members because they seem so important, and I wouldn't want to write something cliche or disappointing. So, I'll try to make this fit the best I can.
My idea is that Aoi has never actually known her family. Maybe she was just on the streets and was known as an aggressive child when bothered. On one of the rare times Megami was able to go outside, she witnessed Aoi, put together that she was homeless, and wanted to take care of her. (Not for any special reason, I just imagine as a child she doesn't understand how badly taking care of a homeless kid would weigh on any regular person.)
Her father is originally against this, but rationalizes that training a "friend" of Megami as a child would make for a great loyalty not only for Megami, but for him. So, I suppose instead of Megami taking painful extensive training (as said in the canon lore, I think?) Aoi is the one who does.
All of this training is naturally a painful, mind-numbing process, and it successfully turned a little girl with personality into a little dog for Megami and her father. (Saying "dog" sounds super mean, but this is meant to be derogatory đ°) Thanks to this, Aoi's main priority in life was to satisfy Megami (and alternatively, her father).
Due to this new mindset and never having gotten psychiatric help, this created a strong, loyal bodyguard who couldn't socialize with anyone other than Megami, was constantly aggressive with others, and couldn't properly grasp the concept of emotions or stable thinking.
Megami's father ultimately leaves that part of the "training" to her, and thanks to Megami genuinely considering Aoi a friend, she put in her best effort all thr way from when they were kids to their current age now.
Evidently, Aoi is far more stable but still requires Megami's constant support and guidance. I say that she's more stable because I want to emphasize that she does know how to have conversation and protect her peers. She just has a bit of trouble calming down when she's riled up.

"Are you... Serious? Aren't we a little too old for that?" The former lawyer asked, sat beside your makeshift dorm room bed, incredulous, as you pointed at your phone, showing him a video of two teenagers playing Dance Dance Revolution. You sighed, because even though he had a point, you thought it'd be beneficial to try it in order to develop your synergy in the field.
You had been working alongside Higuruma for two weeks now, and on your third mission by his side, you had to save the sorcerer from being hit by the poison curse both were fighting, rendering you bedridden. Furthermore, you still had a couple of days to rest, but thought that, as long as there wasn't any actual fighting or cursed energy manipulation involved, you'd probably be just fine.
"Look, playing things like these has helped me improve my control over my cursed energy. It teaches you to move without thinking." You pointed out. "But if we do it together, maybe you will learn to sync your movements with someone else's. God knows you need it."
He scratched the side of his temple with his thumb, pensive, without any faith this would work. "I can get behind the principle in what you're suggesting, but aren't you still in your recovery period?"
"I am, but this is just dancing, not actual heavy training, you know? I think I'll be fine."
He looked at you, wearing pajamas and sitting on your bed. You still had a few wound dresses around your face and neck. The video showed an extremely vigorous dance game session, with all the jumping, stomping and pirouetting. Higuruma thought to himself that sparring would probably be a lighter exercise routine when compared to this.Â
"This looks pretty intense, and no offense intended, but you don't seem to be ready for this much exercise at the present moment." He said, still staring at the screen.
You sighed, a little defeated, and leaned back against the wall on the side of your bed to think of an alternative. Even if he wasn't right â and he was â, there was still the issue of leaving Jujutsu High's headquarters and walking around Tokyo to find a joint that had Dance Dance Revolution.
Then, you had an idea.
"Higuruma, get up and put your chair over there." You said, pointing to a corner of the room. Curious, he followed suit, as you got up, and started to search around the songs you had saved on your phone. "I had an idea."
"And what was that? I might get behind it, or leave you to your own devices. You still need to rest and shouldn't be coming up with these kinds of shenanigans." He said, putting one of his hands inside his pants' pocket. Even if he was more open to collaborating accordingly with Jujutsu High, his demeanor was mostly uncooperative, overall. Higuruma was still feeling like a wild animal in domestication process, and you noticed that, trying to propose this exercise to chip away at his aloof facade. If this got him to fight less like a suicidal maniac, you'd be satisfied enough.
"I'm doing this in order to not get hurt again when trying to protect you from your lack of practice fighting alongside other people" you told him, still searching for something to play. He opened his mouth to answer you, but felt a light surge of guilt, choosing not to say anything instead. After all, it was his fault that you were injured like that. These little pinches of guilt and remorse creeping up on him were bringing Higuruma back to the real world and its consequences, after what happened when he awakened his cursed technique. Â
"Ah, here it is." You finally found a song, and let your phone on standby over the bed. "We will dance together, and you'll let me lead, okay?"
He huffed, somewhere between a sigh and a sardonic chuckle, still in disbelief at your idea. "I have no problem with that, but is this really necessary?"
"Firstly, I'm bored out of my mind. If I don't do anything, I might actually go insane locked up in this room." You began answering. "Also, you're great when fighting alone, but an absolute menace to any ally around you when fighting with company. We can't have that being the norm when you're stuck working with me, and I'm stuck working with you."
Higuruma sighed, defeated, and acquiesced.
You took both of his hands and pulled him to stand right in front of you. Then, raised one of them to rest over your waist, holding the other around shoulder-high, and rested your own palm on his shoulder. "Are you ready?" You asked.
He simply shrugged. "I guess. I must warn you that I am not very good at this, though."
You smiled and parted from his hand briefly, extending your finger to press 'play', beginning to waltz around to the beat of the song. You chose something easy and slow enough to start out. Higuruma was stiff as hell, so you tried the simplest thing you could, trying to guide him two steps back, two steps forward. Your efforts were fruitless. He was sturdy and his body would simply not budge. The sorcerer was clearly having a lot of difficulty following your lead, ending up stepping over your toes a few times. On top of that, he was trying to follow your movements by looking at your feet, as opposed to feeling the movements of your body and following along.
"Ouch! Higuruma, what the hell? I feel like I'm dancing with a rock." You told him, stopping for a second.
"In my defense, I informed you I wasn't good at this" he pointed out.
You sighed. "This isn't difficult." You looked at Higuruma and pulled him closer, so he wouldn't have room to be looking at your feet in between your bodies. "Come on, look at my face, not our feet."
You felt his body tightening, as his shoulders stiffened and rose up slightly, startled at the sudden way your bodies had pressed against each other. You tapped the hand you had over one of his shoulders and said, "relax. If you don't, I won't have toes at the end of this. Inhale, exhale, you know the drill."
"Fine." Higuruma closed his eyes, inhaled, held his breath, exhaled and then looked at you. He seemed more focused now, and you began to dance again, pulling and pushing him slowly to the beat of the music. This time, he had his eyes locked on yours, and followed your steps appropriately, so you began to increase the difficulty. You started to dance circularly, and he followed your waltzing effortlessly, as you smiled at him.
"There you go. See? You're not so bad," you said, "not bad at all."
For the first time in months, he truly smiled. This was the first time you saw him smiling, actually, and you returned the expression.
Higuruma began thinking to himself that this, maybe, was really not bad at all.Â

What are your thoughts on WR development overall and your thoughts on WR being developed/made canon in V10?
Ugh I am going to ramble about everything here I can feel it...well you asked for it. I apologize for none of it, and if you all hate me at the end well I don't mind.
Volume 6 and before are pretty much great. They go from kinda at odds to tentative friends, learning to trust, and rely on each other, best friends, pining over one and other and V6 was a loooot of WR for us to feast on.
Afterward I felt like it got sidetracked. There could be various reasons for this (in hindsight I feel like Penny being given a way bigger role so her death could hit harder is to blame for part of this because realistically how long has Ruby known Penny? A month?)
Even if you don't like the ship they're supposed to be canon best friends so I take personal issue with almost all of volume 9.
I think it was sloppy writing that didn't move the story forward, and even though I don't care about Bees I feel like they still got shafted since they basically were forced to confess to move things along, and them doing so made them miss out on the sister/supposed friend and her problems, and only showcased the worst sides of the relationship.
For example Yang let's Ruby scream at Weiss but only moves to do something when Blake gets yelled at. Blake and Ruby still have...less dialogue than Ruby does with Ren I think etc.
Jaune was too present merely because his entire deal took away from Ruby's imo.
I've said it before but frankly Nora falling and learning who she is away from Ren so when she sees him in V10 she's ready for the relationship is far more satisfying to me narratively.
Leave Jaune above ground so he has to deal with the fact that he thinks he failed his friends and they all died and let him learn from that experience instead.
This also doesn't take into account that Jaune's one interesting change in 9 (being old) is taken away via random deaging (although I guess this makes deaging canon and hey young maria this is how dwr can still win! more at 11!)
Generally when characters go through a volume you want some sort of arc for them to go and change through. Weiss gets none of that. Out of all the characters nothing really happens to her, and she doesn't change at all. She's just sad about Atlas. Neat.
There's no time for it just like there's no real time for Ruby.
In Ruby's own words 'gotta help Jaune right?' and they do. Ruby removes herself from the census, which is how its framed, and they stop to...help Jaune.
There are a few moments that are WR'ish in 9. The Nevermore summon, Weiss believing in Ruby, and calling her name first etc, but overall Weiss's main job is to backslide.
I said it before but in the market Neo, the perfect assassin is after Ruby, and they split up. Weiss goes 'gross nosehairs', and ditches her best friend who she already knows by that point is NOT doing well.
This is not Volume 1. This Weiss is not that petty, and she's literally had to manhandle corpses. The fact that she wouldn't stay near her canonical best friend, and leader is asinine, and only happens so she can be alone to meet the smith.
Even if Weiss can't help Ruby fight Neo she's an extra pair of eyes (and Neo doesn't care how crowded it is in the market), and just being there for Ruby can help.
With all that said RWBY is big into symbolism. When WR are together in almost all the side spin off material it means something. Manga Anthologies has them making heart eyes and flirting like every other page. Ice Queendom was a love letter to WhiteRose (precious?). The movies, etc.
When their weapons rest next to each other on screen like the Bees do? It means something. When their flowers break ranks to be near each other (and Weiss's flower is the lily please note)? This means something.
Ruby can stand and jump from missile to missile but has to wrap her arms around Weiss to stay seated?
If Chibi continues it's pattern of predicting things in the main plot then the fact that Weiss is the woodsman in the fairy tale means a loooot as in several versions of that fairy tale the woodsman marries little red after helping her deal with the wolf problem (which varies by the story).
They're the knight and princess for each other. Ruby comes into Weiss's live turns it upside down, and helps her change. Likes her for her genuinely and wants to be her friend at the start. Through this she changes the world for Weiss, and helps her grow, and Weiss in turn helps Ruby be the leader she can be.
But yeah I guess that's just friends things and they should date some guys they've had like a half a dozen lines with instead? I don't get it really.
She and Oscar punch each other in the face, and they talk about strategy. Oscar has a younger kid crush on her, and Ruby is awkward because that's her headmaster in this kids head. Oh right he went in for a hug she ignored. Peak romance.
Jaune and Weiss have almost no interactions, and when he saves her at Haven her response isn't to be like 'omg i love you' it's 'keep doing it i have work to do'. Are they friends now? Sure, but that's about as far as it goes.
It remains that outside of group hugs the only person that's allowed to initiate contact with Weiss almost all the time outside of battle is Ruby.
Ruby knows when she needs help and will guide her away when she needs it, but other people don't' touch Weiss unless she does it first because they know she doesn't like it...except Ruby.
I have tried to look at other relationships for them, and I honestly don't see them as realistic.
Even Penny would need a lot more development to make it work. I get that it's cute and wholesome but they've known each other for again a month, and Penny just defers to Ruby.
Ruby needs a partner and equal not a submissive enabler. That's a relationship you have with a pet, and not a person.
Now if Maria were young and hot that'd be different...
Anyway...
Ruby and Weiss are partners. If they're allowed to have the much needed conversations they never seem to get, ie haven, ever after, Ruby's mom, everything, etc.
Then is it possible? Maybe. If they do go WR I suspect it'll be more hints, and slow ramp up until the final season.
I would expect it either on the eve of the final battle, or literally during it maybe as in Weiss gets feds up with waiting, and decides to do something about it.
More likely at this point is they'll both just end up single with maybe faint hints so fans can imagine what they want for it.
Would I prefer it if it was WR so the team can truly be family? Yes, but I don't even know if we're getting a volume 10 at all to be honest. The fact that it wasn't announced at the last festival, and we get an extended eppy, and then nothing after the last movie?
Not making me feel super confident. I could be wrong though. On many things. Except Young Maria.

I am so close to being done with Royals/Ramblers I can taste it, and it's one of those frustrating situations where the last remaining work to be done is just annoying. I have to write one damn scene, which of course is the most emotionally fraught and difficult one, and then pick from the *counts on fingers* three separate versions of the epilogue I wrote, none of which are very satisfying. I'll probably slam them all together and then sort it out somehow.
And then I definitely have to give the whole thing one more pass before I think about posting, because it's going to clock in at right around 150K words, and I already have notes on continuity issues that need fixing.
Anyway, please enjoy this scene, in which I realized at the same time Gregory and Eddie did what a great joke their names make. (Some brief context -- Joan uses she/her but doesn't like the word "princess", so she chose the gender neutral Princeps as her title.)
Friday evening, when Gregory came on the air for the address, Eddie was sitting next to him, and Joan was leaning on Eddie's shoulder. Her excitement was almost a visible thing; she'd been fussed over that afternoon, Gregory helping her pick out clothing followed by Jerry doing her makeup for camera and Eddie doing a slightly less clumsy job of braiding her hair than she generally did.Â
"Good evening, Fons-Askaz, Askazer-Shivadlakia, our neighbors, and our viewers abroad," Gregory said. Behind the camera, Jerry mouthed the words along with him absently. "I'm pleased to greet you all this Friday evening and I hope you're well. I find myself, for the second time in a year, setting aside the usual issues of the day and questions from citizens to talk to you about family...."
His idea had been to talk about Joan's history just a little, then introduce her as the newest Royal, their daughter the Princeps. He could use that as a platform to present to the country his new funding package for adoptive families, meant to encourage adoption and support children coming out of the foster system. Each half of that would hopefully make the other half seem less random.
It went pretty smoothly; Eddie chimed in at all the right moments, and Joan got to say a few words of introduction at the end. After he signed off, he gave her a hug and a forehead-kiss and told her she'd done a great job.Â
And then Noah, standing with Monday and Jerry behind the camera in the little studio, said, "Well, you crashed the internet again."
Gregory sighed. "Can't blame Eddie this time, can we?"Â
"It was only the tourism website, and it wasn't on purpose," Eddie said.Â
"He was always breaking my stuff when we were kids," Monday said.
"Nope, this one's all Joan," Noah replied. "As soon as you introduced her as your daughter, traffic started spiking -- palace website, tourism website, and every royals' Photogram."
"Katie in Communications says told you so," Jerry said, already on the phone with her.
"Joan's Photogram is down, looks like bandwidth-suck. And there goes mine, and yours," Noah said, nodding at Gregory. "There's two hashtags trending, PrincessJoan and PrincepsJoan."Â
"Let me call my guy at Photogram," Eddie said, taking his phone out.Â
"You have a guy just like, at Photogram?" Monday asked.
"Yeah, he handles my requests, I send him sausages," Eddie answered.Â
"How is it you simultaneously live in the 22nd century and the 14th?" Monday asked.Â
"Have him kill the Princess hashtag," Noah suggested.
"It's fine," Joan said. "They can use it for now, it'll keep things, um." She narrowed her eyes, searching for the word. "Segmented. Spread out the discussion a little."
"Someone's been reading my data analytics memos," Gregory said.Â
"You leave 'em out," she pointed out.Â
"Good news is people seem excited," Noah continued. "The hashtag's glitching, it's moving so fast, but overall pretty positive," he added.
"Well, we knew this would be intense," Gregory said. Joan, studying her own phone, squeaked. "Joan?"Â
"Mas Corbin tagged me," she said, with possibly the most excitement they'd seen from her, at least since her first trip in the Jaguar.Â
"The footballer?" Gregory asked, confused.
"Who?" Noah and Eddie chorused.Â
"He's a Shivadh footballer, I think he's playing in Ireland right now," Gregory said, and his voice took on a slight edge as he considered some of the reasons a football player might mention his daughter. "What did he say?"Â
"Dedicating my next game to my new Princeps JoanMac, long may she reign," Joan read, and Gregory relaxed. "Congrats to Gin&Tonic, she's cute as a button. Mas Corbin thinks I'm cute!"
"Gin and Tonic?" Gregory asked, and then said, "Gregory and Theophile," right as Eddie and Monday both began to laugh. "How did neither of us think of that before?"
"You get used to it," Noah said to Joan. "All kinds of famous people are going to have opinions on you."
"What do I do?!"
"Gram him back," Noah said. "Comment and say thanks and that you're a fan and you'll be watching the game."
"I'm gonna have to do a video with some gin and tonic recipes," Eddie said, as Noah and Joan debated the best wording for her response. Gregory leaned back in his chair, exhaling, and let the chaos happen around him for a minute.Â

[âThe way I told my mom was less than ideal. I was home on a school break and talking to Jessie for about an hour on the telephone. My mom kept knocking on my bedroom door, telling me to get off the phone. I was totally frustrated and came storming into the living room. She said something snide like, âI donât know who this Jessie is and why you have to be on the phone with her for so long.â âSheâs my girlfriend! And Iâm bisexual!â I shouted angrily. I donât actually remember what she said after that.
Telling my gay father was a lot less dramatic. He just said some thing like, âThatâs greatâwhatever makes you happy.â Interestingly, he wasnât jumping for joy over me joining the team or anything.
Jessie and I didnât last very long; we really were better off as friends. I donât think people, including me, realized how serious I wasâthis wasnât an experiment or whimsyâuntil I met Jen.
Jen was the Big Dyke On Campus. She was a senior, super intelligent, opinionated, really out. Everyone knew who she was because she was a big-time activist, very outspoken about things like sex, SM, and porn. She also went to class dressed in menâs shirts and ties. This was no friendly, sporty lesbian that everyone found charming. She was a butch dyke, brazen in her gender and style, and I was drawn to her. She was frantically finishing her honors thesis when we first met, and so our early encounters were at the library. I remember kissing her for the first time on the library steps and feeling such intense desire that I thought I would explode and shatter into tiny bits of flesh at her feet. She was a brilliant flirt, so self-assured, so deliberate and generous with her words, so powerful at casting a spell on me. Consumed by her, I wanted to surrender, to give her everything. She was the smartest, fiercest lesbian I knew. And then she was my girlfriend.
Jen used to read On Our Backs and Susie Brightâs Lesbian Sex World to me at bedtime every night. (She was even in charge of bringing Susie Bright to speak on campus that spring.) We were so connected, so engaged in the relationship. Every single day, there was something new to learn, share, discover. I did so many things for the first time with Jen. Jen was the first girl I ever lived with. I experienced the tremors of my first earthquake in bed with Jen and her yellow lab. I had my first taste of what now is my favorite all-time food at the hands of Jen: sushi. Jen was the first woman to fuck me with a dildo. Jen was the first woman to tie me up. The first woman to spank me. To fuck my ass. She topped me for the first time, I bottomed to her for the first time, and we switched. We watched fag porn together. She was the first girl I ever fucked with a strap-on. She was the first girl I ever stripped for. Jen was the first girl I ever bought a tie for. Jen brought me to buy my first pair of Doc Martens. She was so articulate about her desires and her politics, so sex positive, that I felt like I could tell her anything. She was my lover, my mentor, my dyke teacher, and so much of who I am today came from her.
Before her, I felt closeted not only about my desire for women, but my desire to explore the myriad possibilities of sex. Coming out finally gave me the freedom to do so. I was never tortured or miserable with all the boys Iâd been with; in fact, physically, they were pretty satisfying. I couldnât always connect with them on an intellectual or emotional level, so I always felt like something was missing. While I was sexually precocious with men, I never tried new things, experimented, voiced fantasiesâbeing a dyke totally coincided with my overall sexual liberation, and the two awakenings became intrinsically linked.â]

Hi, I donât know if youâve spoken in depth about your feelings on Viâs relationship with Caitlyn or what you think of Caitvi, but I know you mentioned you canât seem to enjoy the ship as much. Although they said Arcane is now canon, we can all assume the general direction of her character will be like in the game. How do you feel about that? Would you be satisfied?
I know for myself I can relate to not being able to enjoy the ship as much. How I consume content around them has kinda been lowkey ruined because of their fans. I definitely think Iâm being ridiculous and overly sensitive.
I just dislike how theyâve chosen to speak on the overall characters/plot/storyline especially ones that are quite serious, but then analyze things in the most black and white way. Including Viâs character where they canât even try to put herself in her shoes and think about everything sheâs experienced, but then just be soâŚshallow about it. Itâs like theyâre not seeing her entire character or story. Just her relationship. Her own fans canât even give her some basic empathy.
I hate how Iâm basically letting them ruin the show for me. Itâs ridiculous of me to react this way.
hi!
i havent spoken in depth here about caitvi mostly because my content is pretty vi centric. if anything i just mention caitlyn in passing unless i have an analysis on her too. but i really am unsure about how i feel about the ship atm, and its mostly because of what we've already seen but also what we havent seen. and yeah then there's the fandom itself. they speak about vi in pretty shallow ways when it comes to her pain and it just gets frustrating. but its also the choices theyve let us know they made with her and it almost seems like she has no plot outside of caitlyn. during her pitfighter arc caitlyn is all she thinks about. not vander? her mom? Loris (her big enforcer buddy) after they parted ways? hell not powder??? the one who she failed in her mind?? they were planning on putting a cupcake on the back of her jacket? really...? during a time like that? meanwhile one of the writers go on about listening to songs about unrequited love and how they inspired her decisions...like im not a fan. I already know the unrequited stuff is going to be coming from cait's side because of where she is at this point, while vi puts all this time into her, another creator even implying that cait is pretty much home for her now.. the imbalance in this relationship is just icky to me and i feel bad for vi's end of it. especially after having everything ripped from her during her pitfighter arc. for fuck sake i need them to adress this attitude she has toward caitlyn as the character flaw that it is. but the thing is i havent even watched the show so how do i know they dont, yknow? and the way things are set up in their LoL lore, from vi having her own place to them only being speculated to have had something going on by the people around them but not really being confirmed, makes me hopeful for vi. i need her to start putting up boundaries, start having a spine and to not just lean on caitlyn, because we already see it not end well for her. this season is going to stress their power imbalance further and it makes me just hope they go about it in the right way, and that vi isnt just some love sick puppy crawling back to cait after all the shit she's done (enacting martial law, working with ambessa etc) because she's dependent, espeically when one of the writers has been going on about unrequited love...that just feels gross.
in conclusion yeah, its kind of a mix of fandom and what has been presented so far as far as trailers and whatnot. dont feel bad that thats how you feel, it happens lol. but we all will have plenty of time to make our own conclusions when we see the show in its full glory

The Unutterable Smugness Of Being
A complaint I heard a lot, about ten years ago, was that Online Atheists were âsmug.â This was seen as a major complaint about us, which didnât really do anything to bring our attention to the very real problems we had with misogyny and racism and transphobia and islamophobia, but it also worked as a really good kind of social brush to tar a group with because even now, youâll hear the word used like itâs an automatically necessary descriptor: âsmug internet atheists.â
Good news, I have no desire at all to ask you to change your mind on internet atheists, because there sure are a bunch of them who seem to be complete tools. Again, the ones I think of as tools, I would probably recommend that itâs much more important to confront them on, again, the racism and the misogyny and the transphobia and the islamophobia and then on the misogyny again because that⌠that sure is the actual problem, but Iâm not seeking to claim unsmugness.
Just, like, what does âsmugâ mean?
I got started on this thread when I realised if I had to see another well intentioned atheist youtuber bring up a clip of Mike Winger to provide an illustration of a Christian apologist delivering a particular family of bad point, I was going to stop watching them altogether. Not because what they did was fundamentally a bad thing, that they were somehow platforming a bastard, but because Mike Winger as a person to me, is painfully, unpleasantly smug and condescending and almost always, completely and utterly wrong.
I find Mike Winger really smug.
Smug in this context isnât really a fact or a testable trait. I donât think people mean smug as smug as like, the dictionary word. Smug means, in the dictionary, that someone is âhighly self-satisfied.â This is a complaint I hear a lot about a type of person, usually a type of person I am, usually around me, without actually realising I am a member of that community, which often results in me asking some questions making a mental note about someone to never bother talking to again and peace the heck out. Pretty consistently, I hear it used as a way to describe someone who is right but do they have to be an asshole about it? Or, someone who isnât right enough, like Jon Stewart when he derided George W Bush for being bad at being a president, was just âsmugâ about it.
You do know one of the people that atheists present themselves as against is the pope, right? Like, it is a not insignificant thing that there is a man whose job title is âthe voice of god on earth,â who is the head of a corporation and a country and who oversees what his church claims is 1.3 billion people. That organisation claims that membership and boasts of its charity work running 5,000 hospitals worldwide, which is a heck of a number, but also seems pretty titchy when you line it up alongside the claimed populace of 1.3 billion. For comparison, India, population 1.4 billion, is estimated to have around 70,000 hospitals. And I know itâs a cheap shot to bring up the way that the Catholic church compares badly to a country, but it is a little weird, right, for a thing thatâs ostensibly empowered by god itself and headed up by, again, the voice of god on earth, to boast about 5,000 hospitals when a mere country, a country with comparatively few Catholic people, is able to lap that number ten times and change? Is it smug to think that India builds more hospitals than the Catholic church does? Is it smug to think that owning a golden throne is still bad even if you donât sit on it?
At that point itâs kinda a positional thing, an aesthetic, right? Itâs not whatâs said, itâs the overall demeanour of the person saying it. And the thing that messes me up on this front is that like, atheists are people primarily responding to the most powerful social organisations in their societies, who in addition to their positions of actual literal privilege and prestige, are making claims about knowing the creator of the universe personally and being able to make value judgments about who you should or shouldnât marry or why, based on that insight. Right?
You know theyâre still mad about gay marriage, donât you?
Okay okay, but like, âwhat is smug,â itâs being highly self-satisfied. And I find Mike Winger smug. Well, yeah, and you might wonder âwho is Mike Winger?â Heâs a Christian apologist. He has an audience for his youtube channel in which he delivers a really badly made point across ten minutes or so about his faith, usually in an attempt to âaddressâ some problem with his opposition, which, like
You gotta remember that a lot of the time itâs gay marriage.
Now this is entirely a point. This is, strategically speaking, a thing that Mike Winger is actively trying to do. Mike Winger has an affect and a disposition that comes from the overt position that he is an expert in the most important thing in the world, and that he is humble about it, and that everyone who doesnât agree with him just chooses not to agree with him. And this is where a lot of these professional wheezes wind up falling into a problem of just being bad at their jobs, because rhetorically, theyâre not making good points or making them well, because you can always see the seam when they have to ignore the actual argument and make it about something else. Winger believes that Atheists donât really mean it, even if they think they mean it, because they donât really mean it, because he says they donât really mean it.
And remember: atheists are the ones he even complains about being smug.
What I would ask, is if youâre someone on the sidelines, who doesnât know what the discourse atheism is engaged with, and if youâre not familiar with the parties involved, is to interrogate what the smugness is that you dislike. Delivery? Aesthetics? And if thatâs the case, sure, donât engage with it, seems like a great reason to not bother. But itâs really important to remember that one side of this argument has golden thrones and laws made for their benefit and billionaire lobbyists and asserts it knows the future and is willing to support genocides to make that future happen and that theyâre good people for it and that maybe thatâs kinda highly self-satisfied too.
