so backstage huh 👀
Suguru himself had programmed this throbbing beat. He’d personally added the warm, wet slap delay to the handclaps. He’d played this gutter filthy bass line with his own fingers. Even the breathless gasps that punctuated the chorus were a stroke of genius on his part. If Sugar was provocative, it was precisely because Suguru had made it that way. The song was smooth, slick, sexy. Glossy like a cherry — like he’d drizzled sweet honey over the beat — but as that familiar rhythm trickled down the length of his spine then, the producer found himself wishing he wasn’t quite so good at his job. It didn’t matter how many times he’d heard the song in the studio — nothing could have prepared him for seeing Satoru perform live.
Or, Satoru shows Suguru what "beautiful" really looks like. Hope you enjoy this collab with @fushiglow on this sexy scene set after chapter 11 of Over the Threshold!

the house of the heart (stsg, over the threshold)
concept art for chap 11 of over the threshold on ao3 by @fushiglow
Tumblr media
i’m obsessed with the themes of this fic, so please pardon that this isn’t any one particular scene and it’s more of an abstraction 🥹
“suguru knew that it hadn’t been a mistake to tuck this man into his ribcage for safekeeping” saw this line, thought of how the heart is also held in the ribcage, and RAN with it. suguru’s devotion to protecting the true satoru is written so well, esp in chap 10 “they would never have him.” these two lines matched each other’s freak dangerously, and it’s honestly such a joy as a reader to connect these things
i’m not too musically inclined, so i hope what i drew is the start to an A minor chord 😭 and out of fear that this might be a very long yap sesh im going to summarize: this fic is incredible

AAAAH GOD I SCREAMED, I GIGGLED AND KICKED MY FEET LIKE A TEENAGER ON A SATURDAY MORNING!!! Literally postponed whatever i was supposed to be doing so i could read
It was SO GOOD YET AGAIN!!!
I can barely begin to express my love for glo her writing and this fic has become my absolute life line at this point, i go and retead parts of chapters when i feel the sadness and stress of my own life creeping over me.
I cried over the wonderful words in the end notes and all the other AMAZING art that artists have made for this fic.
Over the Threshold | Chapter 8
Suguru was sick of the struggle, too. When there was nothing but their breathing, nothing but the sound of their exertion filling the silence, he looked up at Satoru, imploring him to listen — because Suguru could bear to avoid it no longer. He’d all but given up resisting the gravitational pull that the singer exerted on him; had resigned himself to making a home in Satoru’s inescapable orbit. He hadn’t decided if it was where he wanted to be, but it was too late to think about that now. Staring up at eyes like celestial skies, he knew they had passed a threshold there was simply no coming back from.
Satoru and Suguru finally find their lead single — read on AO3 ♥

Y'all holy shit
This might already be common knowledge and only news to me as a recent trekkie but before the day is over in most time zones, well...
I had assumed that all the lizards were puppets and the babies might be (couldn't find anything that would indicate otherwise) but. Salamander Janeway and Paris were played by human beings in costumes.
Susan Rossitto and Cindy Sorensen are the ones who played the Threshold lizards.
Both of them went uncredited and Susan Rossitto also passed away in 2013, but here are pictures of them:

Okay but, I watched the Ayakashi Bakeneko arc again with a friend, joking that "haha, it's Medicine Seller's first day at a new job so he's different from the Mononoke series". And when we get to the point where the Bakeneko shows its Reason this is how he looks at it all
Tumblr media
All of his joy and optimism, gone. He was actually lighthearted before shit hit the fan, flirting with Kayo and teasing Odajima. But now it's like this enlightened creature realizes for the first time what atrocities humans are actually capable of. It's just disgust and disappointment. No wonder he's so different in the Mononoke series, because now he has expectations for what his job is gonna be like

I do think it's worth calling out that a lot of the arguments in favor of killing the gods treat their worshipers as the "haves" amidst a sea of "have-nots" and that's just...flat out false in Exandrian canon, in addition to obliquely pinging certain antisemitic canards I am unfortunately attuned to by necessity, even though I suspect that's largely unintentional.
There are powerful adherents to the gods, but there's a lot of worshipers who gain nothing but whatever meaning they personally draw. We saw the Schuesters in Hupperdook in C2, who were imprisoned for following the Changebringer within the Empire, and seemed to have no cleric or paladin powers; nor, to our knowledge, does Imahara Joe. Technically we learned that Molly did sort of get something out of the Moon Weaver, but he didn't know that during the campaign. Grog thinks The Stormlord is pretty neat but hasn't gotten any powers from him. We saw worshipers of the Lawbearer and Dawnfather in Whitestone and worshipers of the Wildmother elsewhere in Tal'Dorei during Campaign 1, again mostly without any specific powers. In this episode and during the Team Wildemount arc we've seen no shortage of people simply going to temples as a place to seek comfort and meaning. Hell, the Player's Handbook outright says it: "Not every acolyte or officiant at a temple or shrine is a cleric. Some priests are called to a simple life of temple service, carrying out their gods' will through prayer and sacrifice, not by magic and strength of arms."
I think a generous read is that a lot of D&D players who aren't playing a mechanically divinely connected character don't make their character religious in any way, and so it becomes easy, with a PC-focused mindset, to assume that the only religious people are clerics, paladins, and the handful of deity-connected subclasses from other classes, but that isn't true and never has been in Exandria.

‘Why do you look like that?’
Eyes like the sky widened at the aggression in Suguru’s tone. He hadn’t meant it to come out that harshly, but the deluge of unwelcome emotions generated by the sight of the singer had landed somewhere near panic.
‘We left the shoot in a hurry, I didn’t have time to change.’ Satoru looked down at himself with a frown. ‘You don’t like it?’
And Suguru almost laughed — because the singer was so far off the mark it was actually funny. He’d never been intimidated by Satoru’s height before, but the tall, broad frame of the man before him made his knees weak then. Satoru looked like every mean-mouthed, motor-head bad boy Suguru had ever fallen for — but better in every way, because he was Satoru.

@wolfstarmicrofic July 11 - prompt 11: Over 30 Years Old [word count 881]
Sirius had always dreaded the age of 35. It was the age Orion Black had become head of the House of Black after his own father’s death, and the age Walburga had always waved in front of him as The Ultimate Goal.
“When you’re 35 you’ll be a grown man and you’ll be the one to provide for me instead,” she had said in those rare memories when he was a little kid wobbling through the house at Grimmauld Place, asking his mother if he could do anything to help her in her chores.
Not that Walburga Black really had any chores, she just ordered around her array of house elves and hexed them when they didn’t do the things as she liked, he would come to understand later on.
“When you’re 35 you’ll see how all this was useful,” she said with a sharp look which clearly warned him never to complain again in front of one of his private tutors when he was barely six and had just gone from his lesson in ancient Greek to etiquette to Latin without having the time to breathe in between.
Even after all those years Sirius hated the fact he could sit at an elegant table and pick up the right fork or spoon by instinct, or could visit a museum and find himself reading and understanding with no trouble at all the old inscriptions on the ancient statues brought there from Greece or Rome.
“When you’re 35 you’ll be head of the House of Black, sole master of the family,” she had told him the day he had turned eleven and had gotten his first wand, her hand digging claw-like in his shoulder as she kept him standing in front of the tapestry with the whole family tree embroidered on it.
Sirius had never known what his father thought of it, because for him to become head of the house Orion would have to die first and he was still quite young and healthy to just pass when his firstborn would turn 35. Sometimes he had thought Walburga would simply ensure her husband would be dead right in time to follow her own deadlines. It wouldn’t really be out of character for her after all.
“This does not change anything. By 35 you’ll be at the helm of this family, a Black through and through despite your disgrace,” she had said sharply on his first Christmas break from Hogwarts, after ripping his Gryffindor tie from his neck and throwing it into the fireplace.
That night had been the first of many Sirius had thought that if he couldn’t escape his family before he would make sure he would not reach that age.
“Maybe I wasn’t clear enough. By 35 you’ll be married to a girl I will have approved, you will have had children to further the legacy of our family and you’ll be continuing the work your father and I started by bringing our name back to power,” she had whispered, wand pointed at his throat, when he had been fourteen and Regulus had been caught asking him during the holidays which one of the Gryffindor girls always trailing behind him he was actually dating.
“I think you have forgotten a detail, son of mine. You have a brother. If you do not comply tonight, if you don’t quietly come back into the fold, I’ll make sure you never even get to see the age of 35. I gave you this life you’re squandering, and as your mother, I can take it away just as easily,” she had hissed, standing over where he was bleeding on the carpet the last day he had spent at his parents’s house.
He had managed to save himself and run away that night, falling almost unconscious in the Potters’ fireplace.
Effie and Monty had taken him in and had given him everything his own parents hadn’t been able to. They had loved him unconditionally, accepted him when he had come out, wiped away tears of joy when he had told them he was moving in with Remus. Still, the number 35 had remained like a screech in his mother’s voice at the back of his mind all those years, as if on that fateful day Walburga would somehow reappear in front of him and remind him how he had failed her and the whole family. He knew it wasn’t possible. He had been disowned after he had run away, and even if he hadn’t, he had barely turned 30 when the old house at Grimmauld Place had been somehow engulfed by the flames one night and both his parents had died in the fire. Orion had effectively died before Sirius turned 35 in the end, and he wondered if his mother had thought about that in her last moments.
Still, the morning of his birthday, Sirius woke up and refused to open his eyes. All the things Walburga had said around that fateful number came crashing back on him and he found himself shivering in his own bed like a child again. Then a movement at his side, two arms wrapping themselves around him and a mouth pressing on his.
“Happy 34th-and-one, my love,” Remus’s voice whispered in his ear.
And Sirius finally smiled.
