So... It's been a while since I last logged in here. Longer still since I properly did... much of anything here, outside of a few scattered posts. Part of me had been kinda dreading coming back here but looking at when my activity really dramatically dropped off, I think I understand what happened.

So, way back in february of last year, I was bouncing between a lot of things. I was running around doing a bunch of stuff to try and secure a new job, and I did manage that- A big component of my not being here was just me adjusting to having to work again, after being unemployed for almost an entire year. It was tough to get the right structure going, but I managed it. And despite starting college just a couple weeks ago, I've mostly managed that too so far, I think.

But that isn't... the main reason why. Probably. I think.

You see, what else happened in february, was that I got booted from a community I'd been a part of for years. It encompassed my involvement in a card game I loved, as well as the FF14 free company I'd been part of at the time. Someone who was, at one time, a good friend of mine misinterpreted something, and was so incensed by it, they took some things I said out of context and absolutely slandered me to the mod team of that community. (Yes, it actually is as bad as it sounds. I checked.) As a result, I was privately labeled some pretty nasty things, and shunted from their discord server without so much as a word. None of them would speak to me, none of them would even give me a chance to tell my side of things.

Obviously, that stung. A lot.

It had me pretty dejected about a lot of stuff, for a really long time. Probably why I mostly got off of here- I retreated to a different blog where there was less pressure (self-imposed) and more freedom for me to just, kinda, do whatever I wanted without fear or worry. I needed space and freedom to move myself around how I wanted for a while. And then that led to me feeling bad about not coming back here, which made me put off coming back here even longer... You see where this goes.

But at this point, it's been a year and a half. I'm pretty much over that fiasco, I haven't spoken to any of those people since, and they've evidently been content to leave it alone too, given I haven't had any mobs of angry pitchfork-wielding card game players coming after me.

And recently, Kako came back! She's RPing again and that's fun to see. I know a lot of you I've still been in contact with regardless, her included, so most of you probably are already aware of a lot of this stuff, but writing all this out is part of my process, so bear with it. The important thing is, after a lot of time and thinking about things, and seeing friends return to RPing and watching things happen from afar... God, do I want to get back into it with you all.

I very likely still won't be super active, but I'm going to at least try to be consistent. This is supposed to be my main, after all. I'll probably take the next week or so to clean up the muse list, cut a bunch of stuff, get a bit more focused and the like. Not that I'll actually stop playing any given muse- I'm wont to flip-flop between characters I enjoy, and I'm loathe to let fun interactions pass me by just because a character 'isn't on my muse list', but I ought to give myself a bit of structure, at least.

So... I'll try to be here every day, at least. Even if it's just to check in. This'll be a fresh start for me, I'd say, not that any of my old lore or whatever is getting abandoned. It's just... It's been a long time. It'll take some easing back into things for me, so I'm not even going to worry about whatever asks have been left to rot in my inbox, stuff like that.

Given it's been such a long time, some of you may... have blogs that I'm not currently following, cause I've missed them or what have you. So uh, if that's the case, please shoot me a message so I can correct that.

I'm gonna be really real here. The female OC discourse is tiresome for several reasons. First reason: male ocs are overlooked too. Second reason: Female OCs ignore other Female OCs. Say what you mean, you want male muse attenion. Third reason: sometimes the female muses are not bad, they have great stories and are well thought out, but they are just not that fun to write with. To explain, you are technically sorta kinda in like a competitive market here? Where everyone wants their character to grab attention. It's not that your character needs to be FUCKING LOUD AND ATTENTION HUNGRY, but you need to have something that hooks others. And i'm sincerely sorry, but 'strong girl with traumatic past, barely reacts to anything, btw is so tough' is not what will grab attention. Third and a half reason: btw these female OCs who have verses based off an anime usually take the role of the like. main 'fighting class' if you know what i mean? Whoever the main character is involved with, their faction basically. I learned that it doesn't grab as much attention as making an OC that is in a lesser known role within the series. MY female OC happened to have one such verse, and people were STARVED for interactions with it, despite it being a non-combatant role. This is not to say you should give up your character's fighting status, it's that you need to think outside of the box because these people are likely all used to having the same interractions with people within their character's factions. Try to think of a more unique fighting role. (I'm sorry it's hard to explain these factions without namedropping certain animes, which is against this blogs rules lol) I have written them all, my friends. Female OCs, male OCs, canon females and males. Do you know what was my most popular character? A female OC, that had an extremely gentle personality. But she had certain quirks to her (I wont specify to avoid outing myself) that intrigued people. Likewise, she was very reactive to the things that happened to her. It's so fascinating to me, that we have these tough and badass female OCs, yet their muns are so the opposite with how they handle them. They are passengers to the plot, not leaders. My female OC was extremely docile, but I as the mun took the reigns to either get the plot going or work with others. You don't have to be OOC to achieve it, you can still have this level headed badass, but you as the mun have so much power to make the plot interesting. All of this is not to say the female OC is bad. It's just that in rp you have to think about what others want. It's collaborative writing. You must be engaging and grab attention. Sell your muse to the audience!!! This takes time to know and understand within the rpc. Pay attention to others. I learned it by rping all type of characters and learning what I was missing in interactions.

What’s your OTP for your Muse(s)?

Hm! I won't say it here, because I don't want to give the wrong impression. I will say I do have a few OTPs! My close friends/besties already know my bias!

What are you willing to RP when it comes to shipping?

Excluding the big NO-NO (r*pe, non-con, underage sex, and etc.), I'm pretty open and willing to try a variety of things for shipping. It can go from fluffy/playful to angsty next. On that note, I am also open to exploring toxic ships/red flags as well. :3

How large does the age gap have to be to make it uncomfortable?

As someone who RP's muses who are either in the three digits or immortals, I can safely say as long as they are both ADULTS who are consenting, all is good. I will say NO if our muses have a parent/child bond like Muse A has raised Muse B since they were a kid, or anything similar to that.

Are you selective when shipping?

In general, it's a yes.

Mostly because I don't get home until the evening and by then my energy is pretty low. It takes time for me to sit down and focus on tumblr replies. Too many things happening can feel overwhelming for me, especially if I think about making sure shipping with the same muses are different/varied. It hasn't happened yet as my activity levels here are random! But I am thinking it about now and rjrbrjrhrje Y e a h. That is why I made the shipping rule for new people who are following me the first time.

Otherwise, if we're already friends, chances are we already went feral about the characters/ship. I don't mind going straight into pre-established ship or RPing (plotting) how they got together. I'm not picky in that regard.

How far do steamy moments have to go before they’re considered NSFW?

I don't think I have reached that point on this site. If I do, I would say the moment they start stripping while kissing and getting handsy with each other. Maybe there's touching the private parts. At that point, as I try to follow my own rules, I would probably move the full NSFW into DMs/IMs.

Who are other muses you ship your muse with?

Uh. For reasons, I'll keep this short and sweet:

I'm thinking hard on this, because both outside and inside here? Not alot honestly. I do think about shipping however it usually ends up being brief and passing entertainment. So I don't really have alot of ships I am committed to.

Yes! It's surprisingly refreshing thinking of each ship being it's own thing and not a bunch of connected events. <3 I definitely enjoy the dynamics of each ship too!

I say ship more-or-less than ship-obsessed. I don't actively seek out people to ship. Also it's too much for me to handle checking too many things happening at once. So, I'm usually committed to a few ships and if something develops naturally, or I feel something is happening? Yeah, I'll ship. :3

I would say just be direct and ask if we can ship our muses together. I will say "yes" most of the time, especially if we have been plotting in the DMs and have a few IC already). If not, then yes I would like to discuss it first and get some IC interactions going. I always have a meme tag for a bunch of memes I've reblogged to break the ice, or starters if you prefer that!

Because, the more we talk about our muses dynamics and each other, I am more likely to fall in love and turn feral! I will be 100% on board shipping them! Like moreso if it's a character I am neutral about it's a BIG WIN because YOU made me love them!

Several people have been kind enough to let me publish their thoughts on fandom, community, and queerness to celebrate Pride in the Library. Today's piece comes from @wolfpants.

Dear readers, dreamers, and purveyors of the glittering, gilded aisles of the Drarry Library,

Fandom life began for me at age fifteen. We just got our first family computer, taking pride of place in the utility room between the boiler and my dad’s boxes of tools. I had recently come out as bisexual to my friends at school, who, props to them, had all taken it quite well despite the small town we grew up in (I was very lucky, they were great - everyone else though? Not so much). Still, even with supportive friends offline, I never felt like I could talk to them about what I really enjoyed: watching Buffy, reading Harry Potter and looking for queer subtext (I could never have convinced any of them that Harry’s story screams gay allegory–no matter what JKR has to say on the topic back then or now), scouring bookshops and libraries for any sort of queer content I could get my hands on, desperate as I was to read something that spoke to me, to read about love outside of the heteronormative landscape of the popular media. I wasn’t just tired of boy-meets-girl; I had never identified with it in the first place.

The year we got dial-up internet was the year I discovered Livejournal. The absolute joy I felt, stumbling upon an LJ community specifically dedicated to roleplaying Harry Potter characters in queer pairings. Discovering, beyond that, that people wrote stories about Harry and my other favourite queer-coded character of the series: Draco Malfoy. And then it was Wolfstar (specifically Sirius), then Drarry again, and somewhere along the way my lurking fell off and I stopped reading fic for a while when I moved to London and settled into my first job, my first real relationship, and sitting uncomfortably atop my bisexual identity and not really knowing where that shift happened and why. All the while, I was pursuing a writing career on the more journalistic side: writing for music and film outlets, doing a little bit of secret creative writing on the side, dipping in and out of HP RPGs but never really—connecting. In “real life”, my relationship with my ex was falling apart, and I felt very disconnected from the LGBTQIA+ community because, even though I knew I belonged, I never felt like I could be truly me with anyone—perhaps because I was, unknowingly, still discovering who I really was.

When the pandemic happened, it gave me the breathing space I needed to get to that point. It brought me back to fandom.

It started with reading The Popular Wolfstar Fic Everyone Was Reading, and reopening my ao3 account to re-read some old favourites from over the years. It then unrolled to, hey, I have some free time, why don’t I try writing my own Wolfstar fic for my oldest, dearest friend (who I met RPing on LJ at 15!), which then turned into: you should publish this, and see what happens.

So, I did. And I made a tumblr account, and I lurked for a while, shyly reblogging things and scrolling through author accounts I’d admired from a very young age, astonished and really fucking impressed that they were still in the game. I read their new fics, I was drawn back into Drarry, and from there I discovered what a wonderful community this is, not only for its immensely talented creatives, but for its values as a inclusive, equitable, supportive, uplifting, and joyful group of individuals who genuinely welcome everyone with open arms and love. That, in itself, has made it easy to reach out to like-minded folks here, to make life-long friends, to chat to people who have been through similar experiences in questioning their identities (it is truly thanks to this fandom and the many discussions I’ve had with people here that I’ve been able to realise my identity as a NB lesbian). To write! To share! To not be ashamed of my kinks and to discover fun, delicious rare pairs! To look at breathtaking art and read some of the best goddamn writing I’ve ever set eyes on!

I have spent thirty-seven years on this planet. A good chunk of that time has been spent questioning many parts, pieces, and niggly jiggly bits of my identity. Who am I? What am I? Is there anyone out there who is just like me?

After many years of searching in the dark, of asking these questions over and over, I can joyously say that the answer is: yes. And oh, how thankful I am for that, for all of you, because fandom has really been the community I can categorically point to and say: they did that for me, we did that for we, and I will do anything for you.

So, if you haven't noticed, I literally evaporated for two weeks straight without any clarification on why or sign of actually being alive, unlike my last two week disappearance. Unfortunately, this unexpected evaporation does not come with a big "ooh more trauma more lore and angst for scara" thing.

This just happens to be my goodbye post.

I know, it's weird and kind of rude for me to dip for two weeks and then reappear like "hey fuckers im QUITTING hAHaA". Buuuut not only was my dad being annoying and hogging my laptop, I also barely have had time to myself for the past weeks. New family members have been introduced into my life, so now I have double the amount of little siblings to look after. (from 3 to 6. dont ask "how" thats a personal thing). juggling that with school, social stuff, fucking exams which are coming up in 3 months of my gOD, and other even more personal demons that I've been battling, its been. a lot.

SO, to make sure I do not pull the same move as Scaramouche did on the last day of his sakurarealm torture(iykyk), I'm taking a leave from tumblr. Don't know how long I'll be gone, don't know if I'll ever be back, but I didn't just wanna quit without at least telling you guys so you don't think I've been murdered or something.

On a more serious note, thank you all for all of the support and love you've given Scara and all my other blogs. While some of you are a handful, the majority of you are actually the sweetest and silliest community of people I've ever known. I hope you all have excellent lives.

- total newbie to the larger rp community however from what i understand most of what ive done is called "short form illiterate rp", however i REALLY enjoy longer replies and i really want to look into and try lazy and regular literate rp!

why did you pick up writing? i literally do not remember . i think it was because i was in a chatroom and saw others rping and was brought into the community and i just really liked it? i think it became an outlet for me at some point and now i just, here i am .

do you have any writing routines? rambling for a few hours helps , uh listening to music , specifically playlists for whatever muse i'm writing for that day . if a muse is highkey enough i'll typically have a playlist created for them because it helps get into their mindset .

what's your favorite part about writing? character development , being able to discuss little things i see within the character and develop them more outside of their canon worlds. i like being able to analyze them and pinpoint little things i see about them . however making friends because of writing is a close second

three things you like about your writing. erm. don't ask me to think of good things about writing. i don't really know? i guess, how i can pull out the characters voices sometimes. not all the time but with very specific characters i know for a fact i have their voice down and im proud of that. i like, when i write a character who i can kind of grab from canon and make them into something more. there are some muses ive written where canon doesnt treat them right and i love how im able to make a new world for them but keep the keyparts of what makes them them? as for a third im not really sure

have you ever given up on writing? i wouldnt say i gave up on writing as more so i stopped writing on tumblr. i would still write on discord but for about two years i dropped rping on tumblr completely just because i had no energy for it && at the time tumblr had become pretty toxic .

I am an employed adult living independently and may return to college soon. That being said, there will probably be periods of inactivity or it may take a while to answer asks or messages.

I have unmedicated ADHD. I tend to be scattered and forget things. Sometimes it takes me a while to articulate a response so if I do, it’s nothing personal.

OC RP blogs are definitely okay, though I would like to know some background information on your OC first because it’s interesting and makes things flow more easily

There’s demon Enmu from the original series, possibly his incarnation from Kimetsu no Gakuen

I also have a great deal of speculation about his life before he became a demon. This one is canon divergent but keeps what we know about his human life intact, just expanded upon. There’s a separate verse for this incarnation of him.

In your inbox again (sorry haha). What in your opinion is the superior Wyll x (canon) ship? (They are all so juicy how can I decide on e.g. an origin playthrough??) Or more generally (if you want), best canon ships for each of the BG3 characters? (Feel very free to ignore this!!!)

Unfortunately, I do think Wyll and Karlach are probably one of the best if not -- THE best ship for Wyll. Enemies to allies to friends to lovers. They loyalty, the cheer-leading. The sacrifice. The intersection of their pasts, in actuality. The intersection of their pasts, in possibility.

Sadly. I don't like Karlach. I don't care for her. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Stone me. I don't think that I've ever play it. But I've read a few cute Wyll/Karlach, both them as a pair or in a trio or in the tadfools polyam.

After that it is hard for me to say which. I WANT to say Wyllstarion, but I don't know if it's because they are THE MOST SUPERIOR or because they're most done/easiest to find. Now, reasoning about why they're so great is endless. But are they the most SUPERIOR??

My heart originally fell for Wyll/Shadowheart when playing the game and they're definitely a dynamic I want to play ... if I ever get to playing Origins. Wyllzel is also top notch. I love Bladeweave and Wyllsin but if I had to say top three it'd be Wyll with Shart, Bae'zel, or Mr. Rat Diet. That's is what I'd play. If you want me say for you - or in general - and objectively then it's Wyll/Karlach.

Now for the others:

Karlach: Wyll or Minthara.

Shadowheart: Wyll (obviously). Karlach. Maybe Halsin if you wanna get spicy rping backgroud wise.

Lae'zel: WYLL! No, I wouldn't say he's the best for her though yeah it's up there. .... Gale. I don't liike age gaps, but there's no denying that they'd be real good together. So while I probably won't ever do it [outside of AUs], but .... I think Minthara or Astarion would be very intriguing.

I enjoy Shadowzel but the more I experieence the game, the less I feel I'd play it.

Gale: Minthara. Lae'zel. If you want something soft but with some bite [Gale is so judgmental of warlocks] then definitely Wyll. I mean the other two can be soft with bite but, lol.

Astarion: Wyll. LOL. I'm curious enough about him and Karlach to give the romance a try.

This isn't entirely objective, like I was with Wyllach, and more 'if I was playing who would I go for .... first'!

"Panda, Bli and Scotty", Vi said like a shot, "They are the first three Muns, Miss T would think about when it comes to recommending anybody. I am gonna start with explaining why Scotty first, simply because they are the outlier if we go by fandom." Vi pursed her lips and ruffled a hand through her magenta bangs.

"Scotty - or as their URL on Tumblr says @countlessrealities - has been one of Miss T's oldest roleplaying partners and buddies", Vi explained, "They have been rping together since Miss T's Good Omens' days, so that's at least a couple years by now. During that time, Miss T tried out many different fandoms and muses and Scotty was always by her side. For Miss T, that is a sign of a good friendship.

"On the rp related note, Miss T also just likes how Scotty writes. Even if she does not know much about Rick and Morty, she can appreciate the passion and creativity, Scotty puts into their work. Much like Miss T, Scotty is a storyteller and world builder. Those are traits, she really likes in a writer. And Scotty is very good at depicting the unique quirks - including speech patterns - in their characters. Plus Rick and Morty just create a very unique rping dynamic by being who they are. Sure, getting used to them takes a bit, but you gotta appreciate the nuances, Scotty pulls off."

"Miss T knows Bli, whom you will know as @jynxd, the shortest so her wanting to recommend her says a lot." Vi tsked in bemusement. "Like by Janna, they bonded quickly. Come to think of it: That ain't really a surprise. Miss T and Bli both are incredibly dark in their narrations and muses. They think scarily similar. They basically love to make stuff really bad for the muses in question, which sucks. At the same time, Miss T clearly enjoys bouncing ideas off with them. Bli was the first person to suggest some ideas for Zaun, which Miss T actually did not shut down."

She flexed her fingers and tested the puffer effect of her Atlast gauntlets. Vi admitted: "I can't blame her for it though. Miss T put a lot of work into the way her Zaun affects all of us. She became very protective over it due to this. So the fact that she allowed Bli to suggest things and found them fitting... Again, that just shows that Bli knows what Miss T is going for. Something, she deeply appreciates."

"Outside of that, Miss T also is in awe at Bli's writing. She loves how detailed and varied it is. She adores how layered each of Bli's characters is. My sister has grown ridiculously attached to Bli's Silco, much to my chagrin. I can't fault her for it though. After Miss T got ousted, she very much didn't have a proper Silco for my sister, so the fact that Bli began writing that two-faced asshole makes her very happy. Just as Miss T's Silco clearly has affections for Bli's Jinx. At least, Ekko has his head in the right spot. If he ain't high on Shimmer."

Vi's smile merged into a chuckle as she admitted: "Panda, whom you know as @ferinehuntress, share a history together and that shows a lot. They have been through some quite rough bullshit and they were each other's rocks through some really turbulent times. Those experiences glued them stronger together than most roleplay partners. I ain't exaggerating when I say that Panda is one of Miss T's best friends on this side and they are incredibly close for an online friendship."

Vi's eyes drifted into the distance as she recounted: "Miss T was originally drawn to Panda because of how well she wrote. Her writing style made Miss T really excited, even if back then, she didn't care much for Caitlyn. I am not sure who followed whom first, but Miss T actually allowed me to get to know a Caitlyn. I am not exaggerating when I say that without Panda and her Cupcake, I wouldn't even really be here. Sure, I may have been a muse, but I would have been not nearly as strong as I am nowadays. Plus, Panda got Miss T excited about shipping me and Cait. Which is pretty unusual as she is more a fan of toxic and dark ships."

"Panda's world-building is no small feat", Vi concluded, "They have some of the most creative lore and headcanons the Mun has ever seen. Their Piltover is very much what Miss T envisions nowadays whenever she thinks about Piltover. It ties into her version of Zaun far too well. That amazing world-building is backed up by characters, which are just as complex and nuanced and beautifully constructed. Miss T can talk with Panda about so many creative things and she never gets tired of it."

Not even New Years yet for me, but the need to writing something started at 20:33pm, so we'll see how long it takes for me to get this out.

First of all, the biggest thank yous and head kisses and mwahmwahs to all of my mutuals that have stuck through thin and thin. I know RPing is a chore, lbr, it's a hobby turned job for a lot of use with lives outside this place and it's even harder when you think of all the drama that occurs here, but look at us. Stuck like shits on shoes. We ain't ever gunna leave unless it really pulls us away from it all. Looking into everything here, I'm glowing for ya'll, but mostly myself too. This place is a blessing and curse, but mostly a blessin' cause I've met some of the most amazing people in my life here.

I ain't a mushy person but I've really enjoyed this year considering the happenings around the world. I've made amazing new rp partners, new friends, new groups, new anime communities through it all. My standards for my own goals, life and just in general seeing how things are have been grown with ease. Taking friendships to a higher level of trust, making tight circles of those most trusted, talking to others without holding back, saying where I'm seeing issues out loud instead of in my mind and holding it in until I dip. Sometimes it's a nothing burger and I move on.

I love each one of y'all, those that leave a train ride away, those that live in my walls, those that live across the sea. The idea that I can afford to just go visit anyone of you now is a possibility many don't have and I'm thankful for that. Having a group of besties that just let me be mildly insane in main is great.

Rping for me has lost a lot of its charm, not gunna lie but it's because I'm lazy af and that prolly won't change. Shamelessly, I will admit, I am glad I have partners that don't mind my months of silence in threading or ask answering, cause it removes this whole expectation to constantly pump out content to keep interest. I'm here to vibe and my vibes just very fuckin' slow lmao.

It's a downer for some, puts others off, but honestly it's all good. We vibe with who we wanna vibe.

Thanks again for all the rollercoaster of emotions y'all make me go through. The humour filled server groups, the crack addicts in my asks, the spammers in my queue, the silent-likers of every post I make. I see y'all, I love y'all, I appreciate y'all, let's have a great 2024! :D

I’d like the opportunity to write as Lucy Gray since I’ve written as Coriolanus a few times already but I’m not picky. This is the fandom I'm most interested in atm. I've kinda been seeing that apparently the fandom vibes a little more with submissive Coryo than I thought people would? I'd really like to play that out in an organic of a way and as canon as possible with the characters. 

I could also be persuaded to write Katniss/Peeta, but right now I’m just kind of obsessed with Coriolanus/Lucy Gray, I’m not gunna lie.

Hi! My name is Jane and I’ve been rping for a loooong time now. I am 20+ so no minors and I'd prefer someone with a couple of years experience. 3rd person, past tense.

I write anywhere between one paragraph and multiple discord messages worth of paragraphs, it really all depends. I like to plot out a lot and talk about our various headcanons for that particular rp, send playlists, all that stuff. Being friends outside of the fandom discussion would be nice but not required.

*NSFW is welcome, and I could be convinced to do something that sort of skews towards kink being a large portion, but it genuinely has to be well written and mean something to the characters, the plot. Nothing with bodily fluids, feet, etc.

*my only real trigger is animal abuse. I cannot handle it.

*sex or gender of rp partner isnt important to me as long as no one is being a self-insert creep.

Please only like or comment if you are genuinely interested in plotting then moving forward as I've had a lot of people show interest and just say "I'm interested!" and not respond much after. I totally understand being busy but I do view rping as somewhat of a commitment and I'd love to find a partner who feels the same way in addition to being excited. And as a heads up if you've already ghosted me during the plotting process or whatever, my guess is just to keep someone on the backburner, I won't message you. So whether you're worried about connecting with someone you don't want to or whatever, don't. I'm not trying to talk to anyone who's not interested in talking with me :)

I'm available pretty often and the better the rp is going, the more time I will make for it, honestly.

i kinda just realized the game's writing sucks ass and the fandom is kinda lame and there's better stuff out there, LMAO

like don't get me wrong the game's well-crafted (for the most part) but the story and character writing is the weakest part. what fans assume is its strong character writing is mainly due to their own headcanons, theories, and interpretations and not what's clear-cut in the dialogue and events. there are some small details? but only so much. hell, even i fell into this trap. also omocat's a shit person lolololololololol

i think i also got super tired of the way the fandom's shaped. since it's a newer fandom, it's bound to have a lot of kids. and kids don't know a thing about what makes fandom good. from what i see (and from what others have observed iirc) modern fandoms have this issue where all the "content" is supposed to come from popular or skilled creators--not just fans in general. sure, you can draw, write, and share whatever you've got, but if you're not popular, super skilled in digital art, or just straight-up lucky, you're likely not going to get anywhere aside from a couple of notes here and there. and that's usually if the more popular blogs notice you. i can go on and on about how this is capitalism's fault but then we'd be here all day and i'd be biting off a lot more than i can chew and/or talking out of my ass

what i mean by this is, if you're going to craft a super long, arc-filled AU fanfic that serves as a sort of sequel to the source, and you're not popular or willing to bust your ass drawing art for it, do not go into it with dreams of people talking about how great the writing is and sharing their fanart outside of your friend or mutual circle. i had a wholeass crisis around the lack of attention i got despite what i thought was hard work in around june and lord almighty i think that's what really solidified my loss of interest.

also it's got that issue where if a fandom can't sustain itself on what's found in canon it's going to drown itself in AUs where the characters are completely unrecognizable and these people need to come up with OCs for the love of god. i'll admit my AU probably fell under this trap too but my glasses were too rose-tinted for me to see it

i think the main thing is just that it's really hard for me to draw or write for myself if it's a huge project i'm working on, so i'm really just sticking to RPing out longass narratives with my partner. and god that's been so much more enjoyable than posting chapters and getting like, minimal comments and reblogs on them. highly recommend
