My name is Richard Anumene and I am a detransitioner. My parents and older brother were born in Nigeria but later immigrated to the United States.

Throughout my life, we were isolated from anyone who disagreed with my father‘s beliefs. As I grew up. I started to feel that something was wrong with me, that I was different. I started identifying as a transgender woman in 2014. I started socially transitioning after I attended an in-person transgender meet up group in Sacramento, California, where I was told about the gender health centre.

The GHC provided me with cross-sex hormones, legal name and gender marker change assistance, transgender support groups, and a day centre for people ages 13 and up to just hang out together.

Much older trans-identified males befriended me, and I finally felt less alone. They welcomed to me into their social group and gave me the attention I wasn’t receiving from family and friends. Everything I was seeking personally, and socially seem to be fulfilled 10 times over. It was an amazing feeling at the time.

During this time I had my first romantic relationship with a woman. It was short-livied and I ended up homeless. After that my father convinced me to return to presenting as a man. I had only lived as a woman for roughly a year before I desisted.

A few years later, I left my father's unhealthy household, severed my relationship with him, fell between homelessness and transitional housing, and re-transitioned under the guidance and encouragement of Kaiser Permanente healthcare professionals.

A few years later in November 20 20, I had facial feminisation surgery. I had vaginoplasty five months afterward in March 2021, while I was still healing from the prior surgery. I was chronically and depressed and suicidal throughout the pandemic, which worsened months after I had vaginoplasty.

By July 2021, I started to regret my transition and begin detransitioning four months after I had vaginoplasty. I realized that I’m not a transgender woman, but that I am a heterosexual man. The realisation of what had been done to me led to unprecedented mental breakdowns and substance abuse to try to alleviate my mental distress, I quit taking cross-sex hormones and dilating my artificial Vagina cold turkey, and I don’t know how that will affect me. No one really does, because these interventions are experimental.

How did this happen to me and how can you prevent it from happen to others? During my formative years I experienced significant adverse childhood experiences. I suffered frequent physical, mental, emotional, and sexual abuse at the hands of my parents and brother. My parents sought professional help for me from age 7 and onwards at a time when we did not have stable housing or enough food to eat.

I was diagnosed with a number of mental illnesses including major depressive disorder, suicidal ideation, bipolar disorder and PTSD. Various treatments were tried including medications, inpatient and outpatient hospitalisation, and even a witch doctor in Nigeria.

Growing up I had no positive male role models, which only reinforced my hatred of being a male and growing up into a man. Sexual abuse which occurred during my formative years is the primary reason why I felt the desire and need to medically transition from male to female.

My former Kaiser family therapist never questioned my self-proclaimed identity or desire for these cosmetic surgeries by asking, why do you think you're transgender? The answers to that question would have led him directly to my adverse childhood experiences and may have kept me from the additional psychological and physical harm that transition had brought to my life.

But that was never asked. No in-depth physical or mental health evaluation was conducted. He didn’t take a holistic or objective approach to psychotherapy. Once he diagnosed me with gender identity disorder, then gender dysphoria my other diagnoses and their possible origins were completely ignored. His goal was to facilitate my medical transition and he encouraged and provided referrals to Kaiser Permanente surgeons. He was following the affirmation-only model that is touted as life-saving.

It has ruined my life. To this day, I have ongoing medical complications. These include frequent bleeding, urinary incontinence and urinary tract infections. Arguably, my physical, mental and emotional well-being has worsened as a result of cross-sex hormones and cosmetic surgeries. I can’t reverse my vaginoplasty or facial feminisation surgery, and the consequence of these surgeries are permanent.

I cannot ever get back the years of time that I’ve lost going on a fool's errand, believing I was transgender rather than getting the psychotherapy I deserved. I was the sacred cow: a black, trans woman. All of my problems were supposed to be solved when I was affirmed. Instead, they have been compounded and I have been abandoned by the movement that wears buttons and hold signs claiming support for people like me.

When I was a child, I needed real support to address my adverse child experiences. Today I’m asking you that you close the door to harmful gender-afirming care and open the door for children to get the help they deserve.

I am in support of Ohio House Bill 68 to help protect children from the consequences that I am dealing with today and for the rest of my life.

So, "gender-critical" feminists, here's a crazy thought: maybe if you stop acting like every man is a potential sexual predator; stop teaching boys that they're all likely future rapists and domestic abusers; stop denying that violence and sexual assault happens to boys and men - including by women and girls; stop pretending that fathers are irrelevant; and overall knock off the raging psychopathic misandry, you'll find fewer boys traumatized into trying to flee into female spaces to escape manhood. You want men to be men, right? Then fucking act like it, FFS. You don't get to pour torrents of bile onto boys and men and then turn around and complain about the consequences of them trying to escape being boys and men. Don't y'all say "the future is female" (which is literally a call for genocide)? This is Exhibit A of what that ends up looking like in practice. Up to you.

For reference, "facial feminization surgery" is what Dylan Mulvaney had done. He should probably watch Richard Anumene's video before proceeding any further (frankly, I doubt he would, as he's largely caught up in an elaborate drag act that's gotten out of hand). "Vaginoplasty" is where the man's penis and testicles are removed, and the penis is spliced open and inverted to become a fake-vagina. As his body is not structured to have an opening there, it's functionally an open wound that keeps trying to close. Dilation is shoving... stuff up into the hole to try to discourage it from closing. Sometimes life can just beat us down. We may try valiantly to overcome the emotional problems that plague us, keeping us stuck in depression or wrestling with daily anxiety. We may wake up each day vowing to do a better job dealing with the challenges or disappointments that stir up emotional turmoil. No matter how passionate our intentions are, however, we always seem to sink back into the same patterns.

Prolonging the Effects of the Retreat

However, when someone consumes too much alcohol on a regular basis or has problems in controlling alcohol consumption, it might hint at alcohol abuse/alcoholism. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one or fewer drinks per day for women and two or fewer drinks per day for men falls within moderate drinking and anything more than this on a regular basis can be a sign of a larger issue. It can also be perceived in this way: if a woman consumes more than seven drinks per week, it is considered “heavy” or “at risk” drinking. For men, this usually is more than 14 drinks per week.

As alcohol depresses breathing, consuming four to five or more drinks within two hours can simply make you stop breathing. Apart from alcohol poisoning, binge drinking can also pose other health complications such as seizures, dehydration, nausea/vomiting (which could lead to choking) and unconsciousness.

It has been identified that women absorb more alcohol and metabolize it slower than men, as their stomach enzymes, hormones and water concentration in the body is different than that of men. Therefore, women are at a higher risk of developing long-term damage from alcohol.

The tendency to develop alcohol abuse or alcohol use disorder is partially genetic. Most experts have suggested that an individual is likely to develop alcohol abuse or alcohol use disorder if his/her parents have had a history of alcohol abuse and if the individual was raised in such an environment. The balance between these two factors is 50/50 and it also determines the way in which the individual is more likely to respond to treatments.

Our brains are wired in a way to physically change according to our environment so that we perform in the best way possible. Therefore, when you consume alcohol frequently, your brain may assume this as a new environment and change your nerve cells and connections accordingly to help you perform better when alcohol is in your body. This, in turn, could lead to alcohol dependency.

The medical definition of alcohol abuse given by William C. Shiel Jr., MD, FACP, FACR is “The consumption of alcoholic beverages in excess, either as a regular practice or binge drinking.” However, for some individuals, such as pregnant women and children, any amount of alcohol consumption is alcohol abuse and hence, should be avoided at all times.

What is considered alcohol abuse?

A person who has issues with alcohol abuse may not necessarily be addicted to alcohol. However, a person who has issues with alcohol abuse is more likely to develop alcoholism and a person who is referred to as an “alcoholic” has the most severe case of Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). These two terms are often used interchangeably, but do not mean the same thing.

The two main types of alcohol consumption that can be considered as alcohol abuse are binge drinking and heavy alcohol use. As mentioned earlier, binge drinking is a pattern of alcohol consumption that can lead to alcohol poisoning. Heavy alcohol use, on the other hand, is the pattern of binge drinking on five or more days during a month. Things to Know About Benzodiazepine Withdrawal

Benzodiazepines or benzos are a class of psychoactive drugs used for managing anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia, epilepsy and alcohol withdrawal. These drugs act on the gamma-amino butyric acid (GABA) neurotransmitter producing sedative and hypnotic effect. Since it calms the brain in no time, the state of well-being is constantly desired by the users, who start taking higher doses. Increased dosage of many short-acting drugs can produce amnesia and dissociation from reality.

Benzos are one of the most extensively prescribed medications for older patients in the United States. While the short-term use can be safe and effective, the long-term use is associated with tolerance, dependence and addiction. The dopamine rush in the brain becomes so irresistible that people can overdose on these drugs or even mix them with alcohol and other substances, which can be fatal.

It’s important to gain an understanding of some crucial facts related to benzos and their withdrawal. Some of these are:

Withdrawal effects can be longer – Benzodiazepines can have long withdrawal phases, sometimes lasting for months and even years. Xanax is an FDA-approved drug that’s often prescribed in large quantities. It is a short-acting benzo with an acute withdrawal phase lasting up to seven days, whereas the long-acting valium can have a withdrawal phase lasting up to 90 days. Some protracted benzodiazepines can have a withdrawal phase lasting up to a year while there are a few whose withdrawal phase may persist for an indefinite time. The withdrawal symptoms are usually painful, like sensory hypersensitivity, extreme anxiety, muscle twitching, palpitations, sweating, night sweats, moderate to severe depression and memory deficits.

Cold turkey is not recommended – It is not advisable to abruptly stop using benzos as it can be painful. According to research, going cold turkey with short-, mid- or long-acting half-life benzodiazepines results in seizures. One should seek help from a qualified health care professional who is an expert in handling the withdrawal symptoms. Sudden stoppage of the drug can produce various side effects, like trembling, irritability, nausea, hallucinations, sleep disturbances and even psychosis.

Slow tapering off can benefit – It is generally recommended to go for a gradual tapering off process rather than ending the use abruptly. Many doctors prescribe another drug with less potent effects or gradually decrease the dosage of the same benzo. For example, if someone is on a short-acting drug alprazolam (Xanax) or lorazepam (Ativan), it may be replaced by diazepam (Valium). Valium has a longer acting half-life, therefore it takes longer time to leave the body and leads to a consistent and slow withdrawal process while the dosage is tapered off gradually.

Avoiding some medications is necessary – It is important to stay away from certain medications acting on the GABA system like antidepressants, antipsychotics and mood stabilizers. It is also important to avoid vitamins B and D and even magnesium while being treated with benzos.

Avoiding certain food items is essential – It is also important to avoid certain food items which can exacerbate the withdrawal symptoms, like caffeine, artificial sugars, honey, food additives, alcohol and monosodium glutamate (MSG).

Treatment of benzo addiction or for any other drug is possible. A holistic approach involving medically-supervised detox and behavioral therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), individual, group and family therapy sessions can help a person steer clear of the addictive substance.
