Part 2. 02

Kim is lying sideways on his bed, scrolling through his message history with Porchay. His curtains are drawn, room as dark as he can make it.

It’s been a rough week at the studio. Everything he writes feels generic and uninspired. The one time he thought he was onto something, he later realised he was just subconsciously copying the sound of a song he’d discovered a few weeks back and had to scrap the whole thing. 

On top of that, his pa has been on his back recently about helping out with a few jobs, as if Kim would ever say yes. He knows his pa suspects he’s been tracking him behind his back, and he's trying to keep Kim close so he can keep an eye on him.

The tension is sharp whenever he visits him these days. 

It helps, to read his recent exchanges with Porchay. 

Things are going well there - or at least Kim would like to think they’re going well. 

They text sometimes. It’s not a lot, mostly it’s just small talk, but it’s something. 

And since last week... he's seen Porchay in one of the common areas both times he's visited the compound, and they've exchange friendly smiles. 

Kim is stuck between wanting to visit the compound more for Porchay, and wanting to avoid it more than ever because of his pa. 

Kim sighs. 

Kim stares at his phone. He has no idea what Porchay is talking about. They have never sent selfies before, they have never spoken about boba tea before. 

Did Kim forget about a conversation on boba tea?

Kim clicks on the image to make it full screen. 

Fuck, he’s so cute. Should Kim… send a selfie back?

Does Porchay want Kim to send him a selfie back?

Kim’s phone dings in his hand, signalling a new message. He saves the picture to his phone before minimising it to check his messages. 

Oh. 

Kim supposes that makes sense. 

Of course Porchay has other people he texts. People he talks to about boba tea flavours. 

People he has conversations with that aren't awkward and short.

…

Kim goes to his gallery and opens the picture again, looking at Porchay’s sunny smile. 

It really has been a rough week.
