On the outskirts of Austin, Texas, what began as a fringe experiment has quickly become central to the city’s efforts to reduce homelessness. To Justin Tyler Jr., it is home.
Mr. Tyler, 41, lives in Community First! Village, which aims to be a model of permanent affordable housing for people who are chronically homeless. In the fall of 2022, he joined nearly 400 residents of the village, moving into one of its typical digs: a 200-square-foot, one-room tiny house furnished with a kitchenette, a bed and a recliner.
The village is a self-contained, 51-acre community in a sparsely populated area just outside Austin. Stepping onto its grounds feels like entering another realm.
Eclectic tiny homes are clustered around shared outdoor kitchens, and neat rows of recreational vehicles and manufactured homes line looping cul-de-sacs.
There are chicken coops, two vegetable gardens, a convenience store, art and jewelry studios, a medical clinic and a chapel.
Roads run throughout, but residents mainly get around on foot or on an eight-passenger golf cart that makes regular stops around the property.
Mr. Tyler chose a home with a cobalt-blue door and a small patio in the oldest part of the village, where residents’ cactus and rock gardens created a “funky, hippie vibe” that appealed to him. He arrived in rough shape, struggling with alcoholism, his feet inflamed by gout, with severe back pain from nearly 10 years of sleeping in public parks, in vehicles and on street benches.
At first, he kept to himself. He locked his door and slept. He visited the clinic and started taking medication. After a month or so, he ventured out to meet his neighbors.
“For a while there, I just didn’t want to be seen and known,” he said. “Now I prefer it.”
Between communal meals and movie screenings, Mr. Tyler also works at the village, preparing homes for the dozen or more people who move there each month.
In the next few years, Community First is poised to grow to nearly 2,000 homes across three locations, which would make it by far the nation’s largest project of this kind, big enough to permanently house about half of Austin’s chronically homeless population.
Tiny-home villages for people who have been homeless have existed on a small scale for several decades, but have recently become a popular approach to addressing surging homelessness. Since 2019, the number of these villages across the country has nearly quadrupled, to 124 from 34, with dozens more coming, according to a census by Yetimoni Kpeebi, a researcher at Missouri State University.
Mandy Chapman Semple, a consultant who has helped cities like Houston transform their homelessness systems, said the growth of these villages reflects a need to replace inexpensive housing that was once widely available in the form of mobile home parks and single room occupancy units, and is rapidly being lost. But she said they are a highly imperfect solution.
“I think where we’re challenged is that ‘tiny home’ has taken on a spectrum of definitions,” said Chapman Semple. Many of those definitions fall short of housing standards, often lacking basic amenities like heat and indoor plumbing, which she said limits their ability to meet the needs of the population they intend to serve.
But Community First is pushing the tiny home model to a much larger scale. While most of its homes lack bathrooms and kitchens, its leaders see that as a necessary trade-off to be able to creatively and affordably house the growing number of people living on Austin’s streets. And unlike most other villages, many of which provide temporary emergency shelter in structures that can resemble tool sheds, Community First has been thoughtfully designed with homey spaces where people with some of the highest needs can stay for good. No other tiny home village has attempted to permanently house as many people.
Austin’s homelessness rate has been rapidly worsening, and the city’s response has whipped back and forth... In October [2023], the official estimate put the number of people living without shelter at 5,530, a 125 percent increase from two years earlier. Some of that rise is the result of better outreach, but officials acknowledged that more people have become homeless. City leaders vowed to build more housing, but that effort has been slowed by construction delays and resistance from residents.
Meanwhile, outside the city limits, Community First has been building fast. [Note from below the read more: It's outside city limits because the lack of zoning laws keeps more well-off Austin residents from blocking the project, as they did earlier attempts to build inside the city.] In a mere eight years, this once-modest project has grown into a sprawling community that the city is turning to as a desperately needed source of affordable housing. The village has now drawn hundreds of millions of dollars from public and private sources and given rise to similar initiatives across the country.
This rapid growth has come despite significant challenges. And some question whether a community on the outskirts of town with relaxed housing standards is a suitable way to meet the needs of people coming out of chronic homelessness. The next few years will be a test of whether these issues will be addressed or amplified as the village expands to five times its current size.
-via New York Times, January 8, 2024. Article continues below (at length!)
The community versus Community First
For Alan Graham, the expansion of Community First is just the latest stage in a long-evolving project. In the late 1990s, Mr. Graham, then a real estate developer, attended a Catholic men’s retreat that deepened his faith and inspired him to get more involved with his church. Soon after, he began delivering meals as a church volunteer to people living on Austin’s streets.
In 1998, Mr. Graham, now 67, became a founder of Mobile Loaves and Fishes, a nonprofit that has since amassed a fleet of vehicles that make daily rounds to deliver food and clothing to Austin’s homeless...
Talking to people like Mr. Johnston [a homeless Austin resident who Graham had befriended], Mr. Graham came to feel that housing alone was not enough for people who had been chronically homeless, the official term for those who have been homeless for years or repeatedly and have physical or mental disabilities, including substance-use disorders. About a third of the homeless population fits this description, and they are often estranged from family and other networks.
In 2006, Mr. Graham pitched an idea to Austin’s mayor: Create an R.V. park for people coming out of chronic homelessness. It would have about 150 homes, supportive services and easy access to public transportation. Most importantly, it would help to replace the “profound, catastrophic loss of family” he believed was at the root of the problem with a close-knit and supportive community.
The City Council voted unanimously in 2008 to lease Mr. Graham a 17-acre plot of city-owned land to make his vision a reality. Getting the council members on board, he said, turned out to be the easy part.
When residents near the intended site learned of the plan, they were outraged. They feared the development would reduce their property values and invite crime. One meeting to discuss the plan with the neighborhood grew so heated that Mr. Graham was escorted to his car by the police. Not a single one of the 52 community members in attendance voted in favor of the project.
After plans for the city-owned lot fell apart and other proposed locations faced similar resistance, Mr. Graham gave up on trying to build the development within city limits.
In 2012, he instead acquired a plot of land in a part of Travis County just northeast of Austin. It was far from public transportation and other services, but it had one big advantage: The county’s lack of zoning laws limited the power of neighbors to stop it.
Mr. Graham raised $20 million and began to build. In late 2015, Mr. Johnston left the R.V. park he had been living in and became the second person to move into the new village. It grew rapidly. In just two years, Mr. Graham bought an adjacent property, nearly doubling the village’s size to 51 acres and making room for hundreds more residents.
And then in the fall of 2022, he broke ground on the largest expansion yet: Adding two more sites to the village, expanding it by 127 acres to include nearly 2,000 homes.
“No one ever really did what they first did, and no one’s ever done what they’re about to do,” said Mark Hilbelink, the director of Sunrise Navigation Center, Austin’s largest homeless-services provider. “So there’s a little bit of excitement but also probably a little bit of trepidation about, ‘How do we do this right?’”
What it takes to make a village
Since he moved into Community First eight years ago, Mr. Johnston has found the stability that eluded him for so long. Most mornings, he wakes up early in his R.V., feeds his scruffy adopted terrier, Amos, and walks a few minutes down a quiet road to the village garden, where neat rows of carrots, leeks, beets and arugula await his attention.
Mr. Johnston worked in fast-food restaurants for most of his life, but he learned how to garden at the village. He now works full time cultivating produce for a weekly market that is free to residents.
“Once I got here, I said, This is where I’m going to spend pretty much my entire life now,” Mr. Johnston said.
Everyone at the village pays rent, which averages about $385 a month. The tiny homes that make up two-thirds of the dwellings go for slightly lower, but have no indoor plumbing; their residents use communal bathhouses and kitchens. The rest of the units are R.V.s and manufactured homes with their own bathrooms and kitchens.
Like Mr. Johnston, many residents have jobs in the village, created to offer residents flexible opportunities to earn some income. Last year, they earned a combined $1.5 million working as gardeners, landscapers, custodians, artists, jewelry makers and more, paid out by Mobile Loaves and Fishes.
Ute Dittemer, 66, faced a daily struggle for survival during a decade on the streets before moving into Community First five years ago with her husband. Now she supports herself by painting and molding figures out of clay at the village art house, augmented by her husband’s $800 monthly retirement income. A few years ago, a clay chess set she made sold for $10,000 at an auction. She used the money to buy her first car.
“I’m glad that we are not in a low-income-housing apartment complex,” she said. “We’ve got all this green out here, air to breathe.”
A small number of residents have jobs off-site, and a city bus makes hourly stops at the village 13 times a day to help people commute into town.
But about four out of five residents live on government benefits like disability or Social Security. Their incomes average $900 a month, making even tiny homes impossible to afford without help, Mr. Graham said.
“Essentially 100 percent of the people that move into this village will have to be subsidized for the rest of their lives,” he said.
For about $25,000 a year, Mr. Graham’s organization subsidizes one person’s housing at the village. (Services like primary health care and addiction counseling are provided by other organizations.) So far, that has been paid for entirely by private donations and in small part from collecting rent.
This would not be possible, Mr. Graham said, without a highly successful fund-raising operation that taps big Austin philanthropists. To build the next two expansions, Mr. Graham set a $225 million fund-raising goal, about $150 million of which has already been obtained from the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation, the founder of the Patrón Spirits Company, Hill Country Bible Church and others.
Support goes beyond monetary donations. A large land grant came from the philanthropic arm of Tito’s Handmade Vodka, and Alamo Drafthouse, an Austin-based cinema chain, donated an outdoor amphitheater for movie screenings. Top architectural firms competed for the chance to design energy-efficient tiny homes free of charge. And every week, hundreds of volunteers come to help with landscaping and gardening or to serve free meals.
Around 55 residents, including 15 children, live in the village as “missionals” — unpaid neighbors generally motivated by their Christian faith to be part of the community.
All missionals undergo a monthslong “discernment process” before they can move in. They pay to live in R.V.s and manufactured homes distinguished by an “M” in the front window. Their presence in the community is meant to guard against the pitfalls of concentrated poverty and trauma.
“Missionals are our guardian angels,” said Blair Racine, a 69-year-old resident with a white beard that hangs to his chest. “They’re people we can always call. They’re always there for us.”
After moving into the village in 2018, Mr. Racine spent two years isolated in his R.V. because of a painful eye condition. But after an effective treatment, he became so social that he was nicknamed the Mayor. Missional residents drive him to get his medication once a week, he said. To their children he is Uncle Blair.
Though the village is open to people of any religious background, it is run by Christians, and public spaces are adorned with paintings of Jesus on the cross and other biblical scenes. The application to live in the community outlines a set of “core values” that refer to God and the Bible. But Mr. Graham said there is no proselytizing and people do not have to be sober or seek treatment to live there.
Mr. Graham lives in a 399-square-foot manufactured home in the middle of the village with his wife, Tricia Graham, who works as the community’s “head of neighbor care.” He said they do not have any illusions about solving the underlying mental-health and substance-use problems many residents live with, and that is not their goal.
“This is absolutely not nirvana,” Mr. Graham said. “And we want people to understand the beauty and the complexity of what we do. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else on the face of the planet than right here in the middle of this, but you’re not fixing these things.” ...
From an experiment to a model
Community First has already inspired spinoffs, with some tweaks. In 2018, Nate Schlueter, who previously worked with the village’s jobs program, opened Eden Village in his hometown, Springfield, Mo. Unlike in Community First, every home in Eden Village is identical and has its own bathroom and kitchen. Mr. Schlueter’s model has spread to 12 different cities with every village limited to 50 homes or fewer.
“Not every city is Austin, Texas,” Mr. Schlueter said. “We don’t want to build a large-scale village. And if the root cause of homelessness is a loss of family, and community is something that can duplicate that safety net to some extent, to have smaller villages to me seemed like a stronger community safety net. Everybody would know each other.”
The rapid growth of Community First has challenged that ideal. In recent years, some of the original missional residents and staff members have left, finding it harder to support the number of people moving into the village. Steven Hebbard, who lived and worked at the village since its inception, left in 2019 when he said it shifted from a “tiny-town dynamic” where he knew everyone’s name to something that felt more like a city, straining the supportive culture that helped people succeed.
Mobile Loaves and Fishes said more staff members had recently been hired to help new residents adjust, but Mr. Graham noted that there was a limit to what any housing provider could do without violating people’s privacy and autonomy.
Despite these concerns, the organization, which had been run entirely on private money, has recently drawn public support. In January 2023, Travis County gave Mobile Loaves and Fishes $35 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds to build 640 units as part of its expansion.
Then four months later came a significant surprise: The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development approved the use of federal housing vouchers, which subsidize part or all of a low-income resident’s rent, for the village’s tiny homes. This will make running the village much more financially sustainable, Mr. Graham said, and may make it a more replicable blueprint for other places.
“That’s a big deal for us, and it’s a big deal on a national basis,” Mr. Graham said. “It’s a recognition that this model, managed the way that this model is, has a role in the system.”
Usually, the government considers homes without indoor plumbing to be substandard, but, in this case, it made an exception by applying the housing standards it uses for single-room-occupancy units. The village still did not meet the required ratio of bathrooms per person, but at the request of Travis County and the City of Austin’s housing officials, who cited Austin’s “severe lack of affordable housing” that made it impossible for some homeless people with vouchers to find anywhere else to live, HUD waived its usual requirements.
In the waiver, a HUD staffer wrote that Mr. Graham told HUD officials over the phone that the proportion of in-unit bathrooms “has not been an issue.” But in conversations with The Times, other homeless-service providers in Austin and some village residents said the lack of in-unit bathrooms is one of the biggest problems people have with living there. It also makes the villages less accessible to people with certain disabilities and health issues that are relatively common among the chronically homeless....
Mr. Graham said that with a doctor’s note, people could secure an R.V. or manufactured home at the village, although those are in short supply and have a long waiting list. He said the village’s use of tiny homes allowed them to build at a fraction of the usual cost when few other options existed, and helps ensure residents aren’t isolated in their units, reinforcing the village’s communal ethos.
“If somebody wants to live in a tiny home they ought to have the choice,” Mr. Graham said, “and if they are poor we ought to respect their civil right to live in that place and be subsidized to live there.” But he conceded that for some people, “this might not be the model.”
“Nobody can be everything for everyone,” he said.
By the spring of 2025, Mr. Graham hopes to begin moving people into the next phase of the village, across the street from the current property. The darker visions some once predicted of an impoverished community on the outskirts of town overtaken by drugs and violence have not come to pass. Instead, the village has permanently housed hundreds of people and earned the approval and financial backing of the city, the county and the federal government. But for the model to truly meet the scale of the challenge in Austin and beyond, Chapman Semple said, the compromises that led to Community First in its current incarnation will have to be reckoned with.
“We can build smaller villages that can be fully integrated into the community, that can have access to amenities within the community that we all need to live, including jobs and groceries,” Chapman Semple said. “If it’s a wonderful model then we should be embracing and fighting for its inclusion within our community.”

When people decide they want a castle, they have to have a vision and then hire an architect to design it. That's why I'm fascinated by them- a wealthy person's idea of what a castle should look like. This one was built in 2019 in West Linn, OR. It has 10bds, 13ba, $6M. Well, this one sure has a lot of turrets. No drawbridge, though.
Tumblr media
Well, it's elegant, but it's got a regular entrance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Interesting entrance. They get right down to business- the first thing you see as you enter the front door is the wine cellar. And, it's huge.
Tumblr media
Powder room next to the wine. Look at the sink- it's the Eiffel Tower. I like the color of the toilet, too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The entrance hall rises a dramatic 3fls. with balconies. The blue tower is an elevator.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't see a sitting room. They go right into the kitchen. It has a nice brick pizza oven and blue cabinets.
Tumblr media
The pantry is large and is used to store all the dishes.
Tumblr media
Beautiful library.
Tumblr media
The dining room looks like it's on th 2nd fl. I like the long room and window arches. I wonder what they store in the small doors.
Tumblr media
There's also a shower room.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since the dining room is on the 2nd fl., maybe the turrets are the sitting rooms.
Tumblr media
I have no idea which room is the primary, b/c there isn't one that's very large. They're all about the same size. This one has a fireplace and a balcony.
Tumblr media
And, this one is a twin of that one, but it doesn't have the balcony.
Tumblr media
This could be the primary, too.
Tumblr media
Here's one of the spacious baths.
Tumblr media
Another bedroom that's about the same size as the others.
Tumblr media
Cute bath.
Tumblr media
Here's a home theater that's disappointing.
Tumblr media
Looks like a sun room.
Tumblr media
This part of the house is another full living quarter.
Tumblr media
It even has it's own kitchen and you can see a living room with a stone fireplace on the right.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are several outdoor areas.

It's a huge home on 68.48 acres of land.

The Greatest Show - DRW
I have nothing to say for myself except I regret nothing. Can you tell I love Danny? Enjoy, lovely people.
Words: 4.4K
Summary: Domestic bliss with Danny on a goofy, hot Saturday morning. Fluff, Smut, and more fluff.
Warnings: Sexual content, oral (f receiving), swearing, terrible jokes
Tumblr media
The weekend gently woke you with rays of gold accenting yours and Danny’s bedroom. Letting your eyes stay closed, you hummed softly, rolling over to cuddle into your boyfriend’s warm arms. When you felt cool, empty sheets, your eyes opened with disappointment, and you glanced at the alarm clock.
11:13 AM
A good time to get up, you thought. Enjoying the freedom to sleep in but not wasting the day. Climbing out of bed and practically getting swallowed in one of Danny’s huge hoodies that you regularly stole, you went to track down your boyfriend. Padding down the hallway, letting your hand run along the wall peppered with bright, sunny artwork, you pulled the scrunchie out of your mess of a bun and shook your hair down messily around your face. You heard the low vibrations of your man humming to himself from the patio, occasional beatboxing softly accenting his little tune. A wide sleepy smile stretched across your face as you peeked around the corner into the kitchen, not wanting to alert him to your presence yet.
The angel you couldn’t believe you called your boyfriend pulled open the screen door that led to the small enclosed outdoor space off your kitchen. He closed it behind him with his hip, in beat with his little tune, holding some freshly cut chives. When you first moved in together, Danny let you design the area pretty much by yourself, and like the little goblin he affectionately called you, you’d transformed it into a luscious green garden patio. Little herb planters placed in strategically lit places, flowers wafting their sweet smell, windchimes and birdfeeders, all of it  encasing a small firepit with cozy chairs and a swinging bench. Danny had even squeezed in a grill, tucked non-descriptly in the corner, pulled out for the frequent evenings with the Kiszkas or your families.
When you came home and found Danny screwing the grill together with the tiny, provided wrench, you teased him about what a dad he was, swearing at the confusing instructions when he wasn’t ignoring them entirely. When he finished it, he insisted on christening the patio, immediately calling up the boys for an afternoon grill. While Danny did a liquor run, you picked up the food at the grocery store. And maybe there were some aprons on sale by the father’s day clearance shelf. Perhaps you picked up a delightfully tacky “Everybody Chill, Daddy’s on the Grill” apron with flames printed cheaply on the front. One might even go so far as to say you bought the matching hat. Waiting until the drinks had started flowing and the burgers sizzling, you came around behind Danny nonchalantly. Giving his hips a loving squeeze, he turned his head just enough to give your forehead an oblivious kiss. As he took a swig of his beer, you spread the apron across his front, tying it around his neck and waist before he could read the print. “Don’t wanna get grease on your shirt, baby,” you cooed, setting the hat atop his curls and darting away. Danny squinted suspiciously as the guys started to chuckle and duck their heads guiltily. Looking down and struggling to read upside down, he looked back up at you with a terrible attempt to appear angry. “When did you even get this?” You reclaimed your place beside Sam on the bench swing, accepting his high-five with a giggle. Later, once the departure of the Kiszkas restored peace and quiet, Danny and yourself had a little more grown-up fun, apron still on. Just the apron. The apron was never worn again, but the use of the name “Daddy” had become a staple.
Biting back a silly grin, you watched Danny open the fridge for some eggs, his head bopping slightly to his whisper-singing. He hadn’t bothered to put a shirt on, and you bit your lip despite the innocent situation. Listening intently, you had to bite down on the hood of the sweater to muffle a giggle. He was singing Taylor Swift’s new song, one you vaguely recognized from Tiktok. Still oblivious to your presence, he cracked a few eggs into a buttered pan. After he threw out the shells, he picked up a flipper and to your delight, sang into it like a microphone. “It’s me, Hi, I’m the problem, it’s me,” he dramatically crooned. You bit harder on the poor hoodie, desperately trying to remain unseen. Your adorable boyfriend adjusted the heat, bringing his make-shift microphone back up. “I stare directly at the sunnn but never in the mirror…” Danny moved to the cupboards to grab plates and cutlery. He giggled, actually giggled to himself, and pulled out two of your reusable straws. Using the counter as a practice pad, he started drumming the makeshift sticks along with his song. As he moved back to the eggs to check them, he drummed on each cupboard door and appliance on the way, an impromptu percussion solo apparently missing from Taylor’s song. Landing the downbeat on the edge of the stove, he vocalized an adorable “Tssssss” as he crashed his invisible cymbal.
Like a grand finale, he slid across the kitchen floor back toward the cutlery drawer with a flourish of his hands, and he put back the straws. Picking up the spatula in one hand and the handle of the frying pan in the other, he skillfully flipped the eggs in the air and set the pan back down.
Absolutely lost in your boyfriend’s show, your weight shifted unconsciously, causing the floorboard to creak under your foot. Danny screeched, the spatula clattering on the floor. You winced, hissing “shit-“ your gaze from the tool up to his bright red face, which he quickly hid behind his hands.
“How long were you watching that?” he groaned between his fingers. You couldn’t hold back the giggles anymore, trotting up to him and wrapping your arms around his middle. You lovingly kissed a whirlwind of light pecks all across his warm chest, smiling brightly. “I think a more prevalent question would be, why didn’t you tell me you were a Swiftie?” You peeled his hands off his face, bringing them to rest on your hips.
His cheeks flushed darker, “I am not a Swiftie,” he protested petulantly. You rested your hands on his shoulders. “Aw, Danny, you don’t have to hide it from me, I still love you,” you giggled. He rolled his eyes, squeezing your hips lovingly nonetheless.
“As if I could hide anything from you,” he teased, tickling your hips where he knew you couldn’t stand it. You doubled over in giggles, and Danny smiled at your laughter. “What’s that supposed to mean?” He shrugged, “Well lets see, you go through my closet and steal my clothes,” he slid one large hand flat up your back over your his shirt, “you always steal my phone because you can’t remember what songs you shazamed, plus you take a gazillion selfies every chance you get,” his hand cupped your cheek, his eyes crinkled affectionately, “and apparently you spy on me while I’m just trying to make my girlfriend breakfast.” He dramatically flew the back of his hand against his forehead. “Woe is me,” he fake-sobbed.
You giggled at his antics, standing on your tiptoes and kissing his jaw, the highest place you could reach. “Whatever is a poor boy to do?” you cooed in your best transatlantic accent. He looked back down at you, a mischievous glint in his eyes and a crooked smirk painting his perfect mouth. Before you could blink, he scooped you up effortlessly in his arms. “Wh- Danny!” you laughed. He set you on the counter beside the stove and tickled your sides. You were defenseless, your arms still wrapped around his neck, and you screeched, wiggling desperately away.
He cackled evilly, fighting off your weak defenses until he finally had mercy and slowed down. Swatting his big hands away defensively, you straightened and took them in yours, bringing them up between you and lacing your fingers together. As your breathless giggles faded, you looked up into his eyes and batted your eyelashes flirtatiously. Danny’s smile growing more crooked and dopey as his eyes trailed over your face, seemingly forgetting all about his prior shame as he got lost in your features. Your heart swelled the absolutely lovesick fool in front of you, butterflies fluttering in your stomach the way they did when you first met.
“Quit lookin’ at me like that, Wagner,” an empty threat in your voice. You leaned into him more, your legs pressed between his body and the counter. He leaned down, holding his weight with a hand resting on either side of you, squishing his nose against yours playfully.
“Why?” he mumbled, still trying to hold eye contact despite his proximity, making him look adorably cross eyed. You gave his lips a soft kiss, earning you a quiet hum of satisfaction. Pulling away and smacking his butt lightly. “Because if you keep it up, I’m gonna make you burn breakfast,” you winked.
He chuckled, shaking his head and sidestepping to flip the eggs. He grabbed the scissors out of the drawer and started snipping tiny pieces of fresh chives over the pan. “First she spies on me, then she threatens me… just trying to make my girl breakfast,” he mumbled with a smirk. You swung your legs and cocked your head, watching him cook with a wide smile.
“You’re so pretty,” you told him softly. The kitchen window let the warm sun rays in, backlighting his flawless profile, his honey-gold highlights parting the silky soft rings of curls. You smiled wider at the hint of a blush across his cheeks. He side-eyed you, putting the scissors away. “Says you, pretty girl.” He countered bashfully.
Your eyes trailed down his back, admiring him silently. He had been particularly feisty last night, evidenced by your own scratch marks littering his shoulders, and you shifted on your seat on the counter as you remembered. You watched the muscles flexing across his back while he worked casually, curls cascading messily, as usual, just completely effortless in his beauty. Your eyes dipped to his perfectly tight ass of their own accord, hidden behind the thin flannel sleep pants.
Danny perked up at your sigh, glancing at you over his shoulder, catching you ogling him shamelessly. He returned to the stove, flicked off the burner with a devilish smirk and set the lid over the pan. He turned to look at you, eyes darker than before when yours met his. An unspoken exchange shared between you both, a wordless confirmation, telling the other the depth of your craving. Before you could utter more than a gasp of surprise, his lips were on yours. Immediately you slipped your fingers through his enviously soft curls, and you eagerly returned his passionate kisses.
His large hands slid down your thighs to your knees, pushing them open and stepping between them, hungrily meeting your tongue with a soft groan. You scooted forward, hinting at him to touch you. Danny pulled back with a soft gasp for air, meeting your eyes hungrily.
“Barely awake twenty minutes, and you’ve already spied on me, delayed breakfast, and made me hard.” His voice had gotten even rougher, his eyes darting all up and down your body. You bit your lip looking down at the tent pitched in his low-hanging sleep pants. Your breathing hitched, loving what you do to him so effortlessly.
Your eyes met his heated gaze before spreading your legs farther, hiking up Danny’s hoodie around your hips, feeling the cool air hit your bare centre. Danny’s eyes landed between your legs, realizing you were panty-less, brows furrowing with a groan of desire. His nostrils flared, and he obscenely ran his tongue along his top teeth. “Breakfast can wait,” he huffed, falling to his knees before you. You dipped your own fingers between your legs, slowly pulling your fingers away a few centimetres, a string of your juices clinging between them and your swollen clit.
Danny’s jaw hung open, growling ferally before shoving your hand out of the way. He leaned in and buried his face in you. You moaned, your hand shooting to his hair for leverage. He slurped obscenely at your clit, sucking gently before lapping at it hungrily.
If someone asked you, what was the best view in the world? It was Danny’s eyes fluttering up to meet yours through his long dark lashes, the rest of his perfect face engulfed in your folds as he ate you out like a sinner asking for his God’s forgiveness. His hair framed his wild eyes, bunching around your thighs every time they closed around his head with pleasure.
You groaned when his lips gave you particularly nice suck, bucking involuntarily. “Mmmm… god you’re so good at this,” you told him, pride leaking into your tone. “’M so lucky.”
He mumbled lowly, directly into your pussy, refusing to leave for a second, “Yeah?” he slurped obscenely again, causing your eyes to roll back. “Daddy eats your pretty pussy good?” His hand finally joined the action, slipping two fingers into you and curling the way he knew you loved.
All you could manage was a pitiful whine and a nod. He scissored his long, rough fingers as he flicked his tongue expertly. He groaned into you, “…tastes so good, baby.” He pumped his fingers faster. “Can’t get enough, so fucking hot,” he moaned into your clit for emphasis, sucking rhythmically. Your jaw hung open at his words. Danny usually let actions speak for him, but when he talked dirty, oh good lord.
Watching your face contort in pleasure from his words, he continued, “…so sweet for me, spread out, so pretty and wet, fucking aching for daddy’s mouth.”
Oh. He was feisty this morning. Two can play at that game, though.
“Fuck yes,” you panted, gathering your little remaining composure. “This is what I think about. When I touch myself. Exactly this,” you stroked his head affectionately, the confession followed by a shy breathless giggle.
He seemed to enjoy this little revelation. Whimpering hoarsely, he laid his tongue flat and shook his face side to side. His eyes locked on yours, wordlessly letting you know that he loved it just as much as you. Your head tossed back in ecstasy. You knew he couldn’t possibly enjoy this more than you did, no matter how enthusiastically he devoured you every chance he got. His mouth was your second favourite sensation in the universe, losing rank only to his cock inside you.
Continuing your teasing, you moaned. “I imagine your mouth all over me, playing with it. Fucking myself, pretending its you instead. Makes me so fuckin wet,” you tugged at his hair, satisfied at the choked groan he released. You smirked, thoroughly enjoying lording your power trip on his libido.
But then Danny stood up, and a petulant whine died in your throat, seeing the completely insane-with-lust look painted on Danny’s face alongside your juices. You didn’t see that look very often. It only came out during certain situations, ones where you’ve driven him particularly crazy. You gulped, awaiting his next move. His wild looking eyes fell from your face to your sopping wet folds, still spread wide open to him. “Show me,” he growled as his eyes shamelessly raked up your body.
You looked at him, lost.
“Show me how you touch that pretty pussy.” Danny’s command was low, but left no room for argument. Your breathing hitched, the sudden realization that he’d never actually seen you do that. In person, at least. There were Facetimes while he was away before, glimpses and teases on snapchat, and the odd time he made you play with your own clit during sex instead of him. But you’d never just… masturbated in front of him.
Feeling strangely vulnerable, you blushed, searching his eyes for confirmation. He licked his lips and quirked an eyebrow at you. Noticing your hesitation, his eyes softened back to the gentle Danny you knew. “Is that alright baby?” he rested his hand on your thigh. You nodded, cracking a shy smile, “Just… haven’t… y’know, done that before. In front of you,” you giggled breathlessly, looking down.
Danny smiled wide, tilting your chin up to look at him. “You wanna?” he asked, an adorably hopeful look on his face. You nodded bashfully, “Can we go to the bedroom though? M’ gonna go numb from the counter.”
He chuckled, effortlessly picking you up and carrying you back down the hall. You bit your lip, thoroughly appreciating his strength for the millionth time. It never got old, the way he could just toss you around like a feather, and apparently it worked for him too, judging by the way his hands groped at your ass.
He dove his face into your neck, sloppily lavishing every inch of skin, blindly kicking open the bedroom door and tossing you back onto the bed. You giggled from the drop, returning Danny’s excited, lustful smile. You held eye contact as you scooted back up to lean against the pillows, keeping your knees closed to his watchful gaze.
Danny smugly cleared his throat, shooting you a shit-eating grin. He settled on his knees at the foot of the bed, opposite you. He raised his eyebrows, flicking his gaze pointedly from your closed knees and back, suggestively biting his lip. You blushed and giggled, “Oh, sorry, did you want something?” His hand rested casually over the cock-shaped mass straining his pant leg. He leaned his head back, palming himself slowly, lidded eyes trained on you intensely. “You got your little show this morning, princess,” he purred, “now I want mine.”
Deciding to tease him a little longer, you cooed seductively, “Say please.” Danny swallowed, watching your hand tease along your thigh. “Please, princess. Let me see,” he growled lowly.
You nodded softly, finally letting your knees fall open. Danny’s breath caught in his throat, choking back a moan. A small part of you felt so treasured and lucky, the fact that he’d seen you naked so many times, but you still captivated him like this. A bigger part of you felt faint with desire.
You watched his eyes track your hand as it slid from your knee down along your inner thigh. You squeezed the soft flesh, sighing softly. Lower, your hand slipped, barely brushing your vulva and slipping up to grip the hem of the hoodie. Too heated for clothes, you pulled it over your head, your breasts falling with a jiggle. Danny groaned under his breath, squeezing his erection.
You layed back down, straightening one leg out and keeping the other bent at the knee. Your inactive hand came up to toy with your breast, squeezing, while the other finally reached its ultimate target. He licked his lips, hardly breathing while he watched. Your middle finger pad brushed over your clit, slipping down over your entrance. You barely slipped in your middle and pointer fingers before tantalizingly dragging them back upwards, spreading your lips open more along the way. Landing on your clit, you circled them slowly, letting a whiney sigh escape your lips. Your other hand toyed with your hardened nipple. Danny’s jaw hung open, zeroed in on your fingers. Rather than feeling exposed, you felt empowered. You had him in the palm of your hand in this moment, and you felt so powerful and sexy.
You circled your clit a little faster, whimpering softly. Danny began panting softly and you noticed his hand stroking up and down his clothed erection with more conviction. You briefly flicked your fingers across your clit side to side, gasping, and returned to your circular motions. “Mmm… Danny…” you breathed, your head lolling back. He let out a pained grunt, and you felt him stirring before you. Opening your eyes, you saw him untie his sleep pants and slide his hand southward out of sight. His fist moved lazily beneath the flannel, his breathing ragged.
“You look so fucking hot,” he strained, brows knitting together. You smirked lazily, dipping lower to slip two fingers inside. He whined, jerking himself off harder, his expression so ungodly sexy. You fucked yourself steadily, bucking your hips to stimulate your clit against the heel of your hand. Your free hand cupped and groped at your breast, teasing your nipples.
You nodded to his hand in his pants. “No fair. I wanna see too,” you bit your lip. He nodded, pausing to lift up and shove his pants down past his thighs. His hand wrapped around his red leaking cock, stroking languidly with a tight grip. You groaned at the sight, fucking yourself faster. Danny smirked. “You like that?” He twisted his fist around the tip of his cock, palming the head with a close-lipped grunt. You nodded, pathetically whimpering, “Mmhmm.”
You watched in awe as his other hand joined the fun, cupping his own balls as he jerked himself. He huffed, chewing his lip and screwing his eyes shut. You felt your orgasm brewing, unable to tear your eyes away from his engorged length. Every part of him was so perfect, the way the delicate skin bunched around the head of him at the peak of every stroke. The lightly trimmed black hair framing his thick base. His strong, muscular thighs clenching and unclenching with pleasure as he bucked into his own hand. The muscles of his abdomen, decorated with the dark happy trail, doing the same. Danny was a fucking stallion, wild and dark, perfectly lean and powerful, with a gentle, warm soul. Amidst the insatiable need, you felt a rush of adoration for him as he knelt at your feet, chasing his own pleasure.
He threw his head back, sending curls flying just as they did onstage while he performed. Instead of beating his drums, he was beating-
You giggled breathlessly, quickly biting your lip. Dannys eyes shot to you, his hand faltering as he smirked, confused. “What?” You shook your head, “Nothing.”
He let go of his aching cock and crawled over you, grabbing your hands and pinning them above your head. Face to face, he held himself above you. “Tell me,” he whispered, smiling.
You giggled, rolling your eyes at yourself. “Just a stupid joke I just thought of,” you lifted up to kiss him, but he arched away from you teasingly. “Go on then,” he smiled wider. You blushed, shaking your head, “Nooo its so stupid-“ “I wanna hear it anyway.” You looked away from him, trying to hide your face in his hanging curls.
“Instead of beating the drums, you’re beating…” you giggled shyly, trailing off. Danny paused, realization kicking in. He burst out laughing, you quickly joining him. He sat upright, holding his stomach as he calmed down.  He shook his head, eyes crinkled and he grinned down at you. “You’re right, that was stupid.” You shoved his chest playfully, and he giggled, leaning over you once more. “Leave it to you to think of ‘beating my meat’ in the middle of that,” he teased.
You giggled and cupped his face, pulling him towards you. “Couldn’t help it, y’looked like you do when you’re drumming,” you mumbled, eyeing his face, desire relighting the moment. Danny smirked, brushing his lips against yours. “You and my drum faces, I swear,” he whispered, finally kissing you.
You wrapped your arms around his shoulders, your legs spreading under him to tangle around his. He smoothed one large warm hand down your front, squeezing your boobs. He moaned into your mouth, tongues slipping feverishly.
Another reason you loved Danny so much, this freedom to be goofy in the bedroom without it killing the mood. You two easily slipped between teasing playfully and teasing sexually, laughter flowing as easily as your moans.
His hand impatiently slipped between your legs, far beyond the point of teasing. He rubbed your clit in the perfect motion he knew so well. You gripped his shoulders, burying your face in his neck and planting hot, open-mouthed kisses along the taught muscles. His fingers plunged into you, twisting and curling skillfully. You cried out, biting his shoulder gently. “Danny please-“ you moaned. “Please fuck me, need you. Need you so bad.”
Danny leaned up and kissed you desperately, his hand leaving you to quickly replace it with his aching cock. He immediately sunk into you with an animalistic groan, his eyes squeezing shut.
“Fuuuuuuck fuck fuck fuck baby,” he growled, beginning to thrust steadily. You whimpered, moving your hands to cup his jaw, guiding his lips to yours. He fucked you at a steady tempo but plunging deeply each time. Slow but hard, passion guiding his hips like a metronome. As your lips matched the same intensity, you began bucking your hips up to meet his, already feeling your orgasm rekindling after being so close before. Danny’s hair swayed in rhythm all around your head, and his soft moans and grunts in between kisses spurred you on.
“Dannyyyy,” you whined into his mouth, “so close, please don’t stop”
He groaned loudly, feeling you clenching around him, his own peak approaching. “Fuck me too-“ he gasped and leaned his forehead against yours, relentlessly pounding into you. “Cum for me, please baby, love you so much, cum all over me,” he panted. You cried out, orgasm hitting you like a truck, pathetically writhing under him as it washed over you in waves. Danny’s eyes rolled back, a feral growl rumbling out of his chest as he shot his load into you. Slowing down his thrusts, he finally pulled out with a shuddery sigh, nestling beside you. You rolled and curled into his warm body, catching your breath. Your eyes fluttered open, watching as his did too, and you both smiled lazily at each other, chests heaving.
After a few minutes, you brushed his curls away from his face lovingly. “You think the eggs are still warm?”
He leaned into your touch with a soft smile. “Worked up an appetite, did we?” You nodded with a giggle. He leaned forward and kissed your forehead, then climbed out of bed, pulling his sleep pants back over his hips as he headed into the kitchen. You heard the clanking of plates, and he returned momentarily with eggs and orange juice in hand. You sat up and smiled brightly.
“Sex and breakfast in bed, is it my birthday?” He smirked, sitting next to you. “Well if it was, you are dressed appropriately.” You squinted at him, knowing he wasn’t finished. A goofy smile broke across his face. “Yknow, cause you’re in your birthday suit?” You cringed, groaning dramatically. “That’s worse than my joke and you know it.”
He snickered at his own joke, bringing his fork up to your mouth. You took the bite, eyes twinkling with love for your dorky boyfriend.
The two of you ate together, bickering and laughing happily, just two idiots in love.

The villa was extravagant under the dark, early morning sky. It was a very modern design- sleek with plenty of windows overlooking the sea. The outdoor lights made it seem like a mansion surrounded by trees and nature. It looked absolutely marvelous.
Looking into the backseat, Yoongi saw Kiwo laid out across the various packed bags and blankets fast asleep. It had been a long drive, nearly 4 hours, and thankfully Kiwo slept through most of it. They all had to stop multiple times throughout the trip because Jimin had to pee or Taehyung wanted snacks. In order to keep up with each other, every car in the caravan had to stop. Yoongi easily could’ve shaved an hour and a half off the drive time if he was allowed to just make a break for it.
The sound of the driver’s door slamming shut rose Kiwo out of her sleep. She let out a slight moan before sitting back in her seat. Yoongi eventually opened her door and picked her up bridal style, carrying her into the house.
The inside looked more homey and cozy than the outside. The first floor had an open living room and kitchen, with two bedrooms and a bathroom. Upstairs was two more bedrooms and a bathroom, alongside a small library and a game room. Yoongi took a random bedroom that the others hadn’t picked yet- a pretty, light blue bedroom with a lovely view of the ocean. He quickly laid Kiwo down in the bed, covering her up and tucking her in as she cuddled into the softness of the pillows.
“Jeez, Jin hyung! This place is awesome!” Jungkook exclaimed, his voice from the game room echoing down the stairs. Multiple shushes were then heard.
“Kookie, the baby’s sleeping!” Hoseok said jokingly, referring to Kiwo passed out in the bed.
Jimin frowned upon realizing Hoseok didn’t mean him. He was the baby, not Kiwo. Kiwo was just an idiot.
Once everyone settled in for the night, Yoongi heard a faint knock on the door before it cracked open. He squinted in the darkness trying to make out who it was.
“Hyungie?” Ah, it was Jimin. “Are you sleeping?”
”Yes,” Yoongi said, getting up out of bed to go talk to Jimin. He didn’t want to wake up Kiwo, and also hoped in the time the conversation took that she would at least give him some room on the bed.
The two stood in front of the bedroom door, Yoongi carefully closing it behind him. He could tell Jimin was nervous- the young man had his head down and was fiddling with his fingers. From the faint light in the hallway, Yoongi could slightly make out a very thoughtful expression on Jimin’s face.
“Do you- do- ah,” Jimin chuckled and cleared his throat. “I was just… I was wondering where you got Kiwo’s pacifiers.”
Yoongi blinked, not exactly understanding what Jimin wanted.
“The store.”
”No, like-” Jimin threw his hands up slightly. “That type. I want one.”
Jimin had used pacifiers in the past. Typically they were the plastic ones with cute dinosaurs or rainbows on them designed for babies. Kiwo’s, on the other hand, had a softer silicone shield and were plain solid colors. They were very subtle, and Kiwo quite enjoyed them.
“I have a green one that Kiwo never uses, would that help? We can’t exactly go to the store right now.” Yoongi suggested. Jimin hesitated before nodding his head yes.
Kiwo woke up early in the morning, waking Yoongi up soon after. He rolled over and hugged Kiwo, mumbling something about going back to sleep in his half asleep haze. Squirming out of his grip, Kiwo sat up and reached for Yoongi’s phone on the table. She looked back at Yoongi, waiting for him to say something about her being naughty, but he remained lifeless in the bed.
“I’ll call the cops.”
”Go ‘head, hun.”
Kiwo just stared blankly at Yoongi- she wasn’t exactly sure what to do now that her threat didn’t work.
“I want juice,” she complained. While she was thirsty, Kiwo mostly didn’t want to be awake and alone in the strange room.
Yoongi groaned before rolling over.
“You’re a big girl, you can get it yourself.”
”But I’m not. I’m a baby.” She began to yank the covers off of Yoongi. Yoongi, in return, wrapped his arms around her again and held her close to him.
“And right now babies sleep. It’s too early for baby time.” Closing her eyes, Kiwo let out a sigh.
She stared up at Yoongi’s peaceful face. How smooth and soft his face was, the way his eyelashes fluttered ever so often…
He still looked intimidating even in his most relaxed state.
Kiwo stared at his lips. They were pouted slightly, with small breaths escaping through his lips. They looked so soft and plump.
She could just kiss them right now.
Bringing her face closer to his, Kiwo could feel his soft breaths on her own lips. She continued to study his face before closing her eyes and-
“YOONGI HYUNG! IT’S TIME TO WAKE UP!” Taehyung burst through the door, playing some pop song on his phone as he danced at the foot of the bed. The covers were soon pulled off of them, leaving them cold from the chill of the fall air.
“I’m going to kill him,” Yoongi mumbled. He reluctantly rolled out of bed before pushing Taehyung back out the door. The music could still be heard from the other side of the door.
A rose-tinted blush bloomed across Kiwo’s face as it dawned on her what she almost done- and what she was almost caught doing. She could only stare at Yoongi from across the room, mouth agape and eyes wide.
Yoongi stared at her with a soft smile. He slowly approached the bed before sitting down. He had a glimmer of mischief in his eyes.
“Wanna continue what you were trying to do?” Yoongi asked with a shit eating grin. Eyes growing larger and blush darkening, Kiwo threw a pillow at Yoongi’s face before rushing out of the room.
The sounds of thuds broke Kiwo out of her trance. She spent the past 10 minutes taking each piece of cereal out of her bowl and sorting them on the table by color. She then made them into individual stacks based on their size. Yoongi just stared on from the other side of the table, making a mental note to not give Kiwo dry cereal next time.
Kiwo turned around in her chair to see Hoseok and Jimin coming down the stairs. Jimin didn’t have the happiest look on his face and had his arms crossed. The thuds had to have been from him stomping down the stairs, Kiwo thought. She was about to return to her cereal when she noticed something green on Jimin’s face. Doing a double take, Kiwo could now see that Jimin had a pacifier in his mouth.
Her pacifier, to be exact.
It was sage green, one of Kiwo’s favorite colors. She never used it; she was saving it so it would match her outfit. The pink, blue, and white ones were used much more often as those were the colors Yoongi usually dressed her in.
Still, it hurt to see him using something of hers. What made it worse in her mind was that it was Jimin. He did nothing for him to deserve something of Kiwo’s. She casted a glare in Yoongi’s direction.
“Taehyung wake you guys up, too?” Hoseok asked.
“I did no such thing!” Taehyung shouted from the couch. He did, in fact, try to wake everyone up that morning.
Ignoring the conversation at hand, all Kiwo could focus on was Jimin and that stupid pacifier. She glared daggers at him, trying to explode him with her mind. Jimin must have caught on to what Kiwo was thinking, as he gave a smug smirk behind the pacifier shield.
Bastard knew what he was doing, Kiwo thought.
“Eat.” Yoongi interrupted Kiwo’s internal thoughts by grabbing her chin. He pointed to the stacks and piles of cereal in front of her before stealing one piece himself to eat. Kiwo gave one last look towards Jimin, who only snickered before walking towards the stairs again.
The morning passed slowly, with everyone occasionally coming into the common areas to socialize before heading back to their respective bedrooms to relax. Everyone really just considered this time their vacation and time to catch up on sleep.
Or, at least, almost everyone.
Jungkook finally left his bedroom only to walk out in a suit. Everyone stared at the young man confused, thinking they were all in agreement that this was a vacation. While the rest of them were in comfy pajamas, Jungkook was dressed to the nines.
“What? You people act like we don’t have jobs.” Jungkook took a seat next to Hoseok on the couch.
“Because we’re on vacation,” Seokjin said, “And you are too.”
”Not this week. As much as I’d love to relax, we’ve got a huge shipment coming in today that I should help with.”
”I should, too. But I’m not.” Taehyung tagged on. Currently he was spread across the floor, staring up at the ceiling. Everyone was beyond trying to figure out what went on in his head at this point.
“And I have classes, so I can’t stay here forever.”
“Since when do you go to your classes?” Hoseok teased, giggling while lightly hitting Jungkook in the arm.
“I wanna go to school,” Kiwo said sadly, staring down at her feet. Next to her, Yoongi could only roll his eyes.
As Jungkook left the house, Kiwo could only focus on what of her old life she missed. Everything was looking up until she met Jungkook and Yoongi. Now, she was locked up with nothing to really do besides be with Yoongi.
It was a love-hate life she currently had. On one hand, she loved the attention she was getting. Kiwo never really got much attention from her family, friends, or romantically. It was a nice change of pace, being wanted and all. Everyone was nice to her, or almost everyone. No one felt like they were being fake- all the guys seemed to genuinely like her.
Meanwhile, everything changed, and Kiwo hates change. She was taken against her will to be here. Kiwo was becoming more social while in college and independent, two things that she was proud of. Now, she was shut in and forced to depend on Yoongi. Not to mention that she was in a foreign country and surrounded by a language she didn’t know.
“Kiwo!” Hoseok said, waving his hand in front of Kiwo’s face. Blinking, Kiwo came back to reality after being lost in thought for too long. She looked over at Hoseok wide-eyes to see what he wanted.
“Do you want to color with Jimin and Taehyung?”
Kiwo looked down at Jimin and Taehyung spread out on the floor, multiple crayons and coloring books surrounding them. Really, she didn’t want to do anything that involved Jimin. She just observed the mess before her until Taehyung pulled out a coloring book for her.
Hello Kitty. Her weakness.
The three colored while the others went about with the rest of the unpacking. It was a lot of in and out of the house while occasionally making sure no one killed each other with a crayon.
Kiwo reached over to grab a purple crayon by Jimin so she could finish her flower. It was a pretty lily that Kiwo was coloring as a mix of pink and purple. She could barely mark up the paper before it was roughly ripped out of her hand by Jimin. Furrowing her eyebrows, she looked in Jimin’s direction to see him coloring away with her crayon.
“I’m going to go to the bathroom, I’ll be right back!” Taehyung said, getting up off the floor and leaving Kiwo and Jimin to their crayon affair.
“I was using that.” Kiwo said, pointing to the crayon in Jimin’s hand.
“I had it first before you took it.” Jimin stuck his tongue out at Kiwo, causing Kiwo to let out a huff of annoyance.
“It was on the floor!”
”Kiwo! Do not raise your voice.” Yoongi said as he re-entered the living room. Eyes wide, Kiwo could not understand why she was being yelled at for Jimin being mean.
Kiwo snarled and reached over to grab the crayon from Jimin’s hand. Jimin only held on tighter before pushing Kiwo away.
“Yoongi hyung! Kiwo’s trying to take my crayon!”
”He took it from me first!”
Yoongi looked over at the sight of Kiwo pulling at the crayon in Jimin’s hand while Jimin tried pushing her away. He could only sigh as he approached to try and fix the situation.
Just then, the crayon snapped in half. Jimin looked in disbelief while Kiwo was just happy to have some of the purple crayon in her own hand to finish the flower.
Only to realize she had the butt end. She couldn’t possibly color with that. Angry, she chucked the crayon at Jimin’s stupid face with a huff. Kiwo crossed her arms in annoyance.
With impeccable aim, the crayon managed to hit Jimin right in his eye. The older bursted into tears while he held his watering eye in pain. Yoongi grabbed Kiwo by the underarms, lifting her up and off the floor. She flailed about in protest until she ended up over Yoongi’s shoulder. A swift swat was placed on her bottom, followed by another, and another until Kiwo lost count.
Yoongi carried her over to the staircase, placing her on the landing three steps from the bottom floor. She pouted as her butt touched the carpet. Kiwo couldn’t even focus on what Yoongi was saying as she looked across the room at Jimin, who was now being soothed by Taehyung and her sage green pacifier.
Bastard.

REMEMBER: ONE WORD PROMPT = CHENFORD ONE SHOT
========== Tim was driving his girls to school and work one morning.
Normally they’d hop on Franklin and zip across town missing the most of traffic, but with the first Republican Presidential candidate debates happening tonight downtown, half the main thoroughfares were blocked forcing all the locals onto the same cross town streets: Beverly, Melrose, Wilshire and Olympic. Somehow they had ended up on Melrose inching along through the design district, miscellaneous fashion houses and restaurants peppered between tourist traps and hookah lounges.
Diana, who at age 11 -soon to be 12 - was poised to rule the world, notices the sign first.
What once had been a flagship Vans store, was now transformed into a two story sushi restaurant. The second floor had been converted into an outdoor garden deck with a massive steel pergola and covered in every color cherry blossom; guests could sit in booths or at the main sashimi counter plucking raw delicacies from the ever moving track around the bar. The street facing, first floor wall once covered by floor-to-ceiling windows, now looms over pedestrians strolling by - a solid black wall of dark mahogany, broken only by a 7’ x 7’ red door and a massive digital video screen.
“Mom!” Diana gasped. “They turned on the sign - LOOK AT THAT!!”
Lucy, who has been reading boring but important work emails, turned to glance past Tim and saw a giant red octopus on the screen (see image above), it’s tentacles appearing to press up against the screen and freeze - while a black message appeared, overlaying the giant mythical beast:
寿司 ー 刺し身 ー Tako
“Yep - Tako is the name of the restaurant and Japanese for Octopus! Mom - we HAVE to go there! We never do anything cool, and going there? Sitting up on the roof, with celebrities and influencers? Oh man, that’d be so cool!” I bet Uncle Aaron could get us a reservation there.”
Lucy and Tim share a quick smile and rolling of the eyes at their daughter who was barreling along into her teenage years desperate to be “cool” especially since her parents, apparently, had been officially deemed “not cool.”
“Di - do you even like sushi? Your nose gets all scrunched up any time your mom offers you any of her take-out?” Tim asks his daughter, internally chuckling at the image in his mind.
Whereas their eldest son had Lucy’s coloring and his height and eyes, their daughter had his mom’s gorgeous dark blond hair with copper highlights, Lucy’s eyes, smile and curves and some of Tim’s height. Their youngest, TJ, was a mix of Lucy’s Black Irish Bio-dad and Tim’s blond-Ken-doll dad. TJ’s eye shape was the only physical resemblance to Lucy. Deep, crystal clear, mossy green eyes and thick black wavy hair. Both Kai and TJ loved anything from the sea. Diana, like her Dad, was more likely to sneer out of the corners of their eyes at the sushi.
“Who says I’m going to eat anything raw? Bleah. No, I’ll eat edamame and tempura shrimp and seaweed salad and go to be near all that fame and fortune. That’s the goal - to hob and knob with people.”
Lucy turns to Tim and suppresses a giggle - “Hob. And knob” she mouths to Tim. Their girl was gearing up to give them a wild ride through their teenage years. Diana films the octopus gliding across the big screen for herself and sends a copy to her little brother because he’d love it.
=====
When Lucy got home that night after a relatively uneventful shift, she found the main interior lights dimmed. Her “mom hearing” lets her know her kids are all home, safe and sound. But her husband is not where she expects to find him - in the kitchen, reading the paper, with entertainment news playing quietly in the background.
She puts the take out bags on the counter, along with her purse and keys. She then moves to the secret safe in the pantry and locks her badge and gun behind the peanut butter cups. She knows Tim is home, because she parked behind his truck on the driveway, but he hasn’t yet greeted her with a hug and kiss. Weird.
The dogs, however, sensing a new person who might give them treats came rushing at her from the far corners of the house where her kids were doing whatever after dinner, they all promptly sat down when Lucy told them to, and each received a cow’s ear to chew on, heading back out to hang with their person for the rest of the night.
Each Bradford (including Tim & Lucy) adopted a pup from the pound in memory of Kojo - king of canines. A picture of Lucy, Tim and Kojo sits prominently on the fireplace mantel with the rest of the family photos.
Lucy and Tim’s dogs were a hilarious brother and sister duo - Alaskan Klee Kais who had ridiculous personalities. Think mini huskies, Tim’s dog - Vivian- and Lucy’s dog - Elvis - were polar opposites. Vivian would usually be found on the back of the sofa in the game room with the boys, front legs crossed and thrilled to be part of the action. where Elvis followed Tim around all day long whining, moaning and complaining that he was being treated unfairly. Although lately, he’d discovered a certain part of the upstairs hallway with phenomenal acoustics and like his husky cousins, would yell and howl, sounding like a siren. Now that the kids were older, Tim spent most of his days arguing with Elvis. The kids had all opted for lab mixes of various sizes, colors and hair types.
But neither Elvis nor Tim came as treats were handed out. Huh. Lucy grabbed two treats for Elvis, obviously, and started her tour of the house ending up in their TV room - originally an artists studio off of the master bedroom, which Lucy and Tim converted into their own private space away from slobbering dogs and kids to watch movies not made by Disney and make out on the super comfy sofa. Lucy found both of them sprawled out on the floor - Elvis had his head on Tim’s thigh and barely lifted his head in greeting Lucy. She noticed Tim had their infrared blanket underneath his torso and he was conked out and snoring, dead asleep at 7pm.
“God, he is so handsome.” Lucy thought to herself. Even after 15 years of marriage, three kids, 5 dogs, two chinchillas, and a tarantula, Tim was in phenomenal shape, and Lucy thought he got more handsome as he aged. At 57, he continued to look relaxed, tan and extremely happy. He smiled all the time and loved being a stay-at home dad. He now sported a dark beard with gray edges, wire rimmed glasses for reading, which Lucy found insanely sexy, and deep laugh lines around his devastating smile.
She quickly ducked into their bedroom and changed into one of his LAPD shirts and Indian sari pj bottoms before she crept into the other room and snuggled up next to her husband and spread a blanket over them and the dog.
Tim woke up 30 minutes later to the smell of jasmine (Lucy!) and mad dog chomping in his ear (Elvis….). First thing he did was reach down and reset the infrared blanket for another 60 minutes and upped the temp to 110. His back was sore from the extra effort of the day. He then next turned to Elvis, grabbed the dog’s cow ear and threw it into the hallway knowing the dog would soon follow.
Finally he turned to his bride and pulled her into his side. “Hi” he murmured. 18 years after that first roll call when they first met, he still could not believe how beautiful she was. That this gorgeous and smart and thoughtful woman gave him three astounding kids, their own menagerie of creatures great and small, and that she chose him to love and adore. He thanked his lucky stars every chance he could because this life with Lucy was so much more amazing than anything he ever dreamed possible.
“Hi”, Lucy murmurs back leaning in for her welcome home kiss. She smiles at him and he smiles at her, and she asks him - “Why are you here on the floor? Rough day?”
Tim laughs out loud, and says, “The next time TJ needs a chaperone for a field trip with 20 of his fellow first graders, please do not let me be one of the volunteers. While there were moments of hilarity - like when TJ went off on Ms. Dodson for standing too close to me. I’ll let him tell you how he defended your honor.
Today was exhausting.
Each chaperone was responsible for four first graders - four 6 year-olds. At the aquarium in Long Beach.
There was a Shark exhibit which was cool, but the focus and the reason we were there was for the octopus exhibit. There are some freaky octopi out in the ocean. (Tim shudders), if I never have to hear a random factoid about them or see one ever again, it’ll be too soon.
At one point, TJ got scared and came and sat on my foot like he does sometimes, and then without warning, I suddenly was covered in 6 year-olds. I was able to stand up and do my “hulk thing” I do with the nephews, but I couldn’t go very far, they kept falling off and I pulled something in my back and that was within the first 30 minutes . We were there for three hours. Uncle! No more kids, no more octopuses, just no more. I wanna lie here with my sweetie and her weirdly quiet dog and forget the 8-legged-aliens.”
Lucy could not stop laughing at the image in her head of Tim covered with their littlest and his classmates. She is sure Tim loved every second of it - even Ms. Dodson making him blush. Tim still got flustered when other women flirted with him.
She snuggled closer to him and said, “Oof. Then I suppose you don’t want to come downstairs and share my grilled octopus tacos from the “cool” sushi restaurant we drove past this morning? No Tako tacos for you, huh? What about two fully loaded animal-style cheeseburgers with fries from In ‘N Out with a Neapolitan shake? Would that entice you to come have dinner with me downstairs?”
Tim leans in and kisses her and says, “You asking is enough to entice me. But yeah, the burgers sound awesome. You can give Diana the Tako take out bag and maybe up our “cool” quotient. We are gonna need all the help we can get.”

Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 5
It’s early in the morning, as early as you can go, when you head to the market for the first time.
It had been 3 weeks since marrying Cernon, though it felt like no time had passed at all. Your daily routine of manual labor and organizing made the days bleed together, the nights usually a quick dinner and a crash into bed. Time was kept in your mind by moments with Cernon. He’d slowly begun to talk more and more, chit chatting as you work or while you washed up during the night. He’d even complimented your deweeding skills a few days ago, a small ‘good job’ that had you flush with accomplishment. He was opening up, slowly, but surely.
Being back in town felt surreal. You’d grown used to the murmuring silence of the forest, of being sweaty and filthy as you fed, cleaned, and cooked. Now you’re out on the streets, where people could see you, talk to you, judge you. Unlike when you lived in the castle, there were no intimidating knights or carriage windows to hide behind. It’s terrifying and exhilarating all at the same time.
Only a few shops are open, mostly run by older folks who stick to their own schedule. It’s enough for you to pick up essentials from your shopping list, all while still staying discrete.
The first store you enter is one of your old favorites. Not that you had ever been inside, of course, but the cute outdoor patio was one of the favorite sites from the carriage. It was also run by the only shopkeep you knew personally, an adorable older woman, Doreen who would personally deliver the fresh pastries to your driver. She often went out of her way to hand you a couple extra muffins, knowing they are your favorite.
A bell chimes as you push open the door, hot oven air and the smell of fresh pastries washing over you. Those muffins you love are already put out on a platter on top of the display case, a little sign saying ‘Today’s special’ written in fine penmanship.
“In a minute, dear!” An old voice shouts, not silencing the muttering chit-chat from the kitchen. You wondered if the owner had multiple pastry chefs who worked for her, or maybe it was just her family getting ready for the day. You daydream about this hidden life you would have never learned about in the castle as you browse, fingers dancing across the display case.
Theres the swing of a door, pushed open by the owner, her apron already speckled with flour.
“What can I do for you-”
You both jolt when she drops her wooden spoon, finally getting a look at her first customer of the day. Her mouth hangs open and you can feel your ears get hot.
“Um, is everything alright?”
Apparently three weeks of desperately trying to read Cernon has honed your ability, as you can see the million thoughts racing across her face all at once. It’s in her eyes, her posture, and her still open mouth.
But she’s a pro at this game, and as quickly as you notice it she’s composed herself. A big, warm smile replaces the shock.
“I just wasn’t expecting to see you in the flesh, your majesty. To be honest, you’re a bit taller than I thought you’d be, after only seeing you through a window all these years.”
You both laugh, a breath of fresh air as all that anxiety leaves you in a moment.
“I’d imagine so, but I'm sure I lost a few inches from having to hunch in that carriage seat. All that money and you’d think they’d design more ergonomic cushions.”
You can practically hear your father now, scolding you for even daring to imply shoddy castle craftsmanship, even worse, mention money so plainly. It’s unbecoming of a noble, he’d curse at you, before slapping your wrist.
“Oh, and I was just thinking of buying that new silver studded one for my pets.” She jests, patting herself on the arm. “Guess I’ll have to settle for a tiara, times really are tough.” She winks and you chuckle again. The feeling in the air is lighthearted, warm, so different from taking trips to town from before. The conversation is so casual, so easy, you don’t even notice the hushed silence coming from the back, nor the wandering eyes of curious old women.
“Now, what can I get you darling?”
“Nothing crazy, I just remembered how much I loved your sourdough and thought I’d swing by. Oh and can I get five of the muffins, please?” Doreen nods, grabbing a pair of tongs and a satchel as she puts away the pastries. You let your eyes wander to the back shelf, seeing jars of flour, sugar, and even some jams. The large window into the kitchen beckons your gaze, your periphery just glancing three sets of peering eyes, which jerk away as you finally focus.
Huh, weird.
But then you see a neatly wrapped jar, decorated with a blue ribbon, on the shelf. It’s a little more full than the others, with a label and an itty bitty price tag.
“Could I also get some if that fig jam?”
Doreen glances backwards. “Sure thing, hon. I actually just started putting that out today, so you’ll be the first to taste my jam recipe.” Doreen laughed to herself. “Happy to know it will actually sell, too.”
“Well I’m extra excited. My husband loves figs, so I’m sure he’ll give an honest review.”
Doreen pauses mid motion, a muffin dropping into the bag from a limp tong. Somehow, the quiet of the back got even quieter. That familiar tension crawls up your back once more, remembering that first meeting with Cernon. All the fear you had for the beast in the woods.
Doreen coughs, clearly trying to hide her shock. “Well, I look forward to-”
“Whats he like?”
One of the spying eyes from the back pipes up, now easily recognizable as the fruit stand owner down the street. Doreen whips back around to her with a glare.
“Well we know he likes figs, thats for sure?” Says the other spy, the florist form next door.
“I didn’t realize he could eat produce, I assumed it was a meat only situation.” The end of the trio is the head seamstress from the tailors, fidgeting her hands back and forth.
“Ugh, could you imagine the morning breath? I think not.” The fruit stand owner replies, shuddering at the thought. “I won’t even kiss my Henry after he eats a pork pie, nonetheless raw meat.”
“I didn’t say raw meat, I said only meat.” Chides the seamstress. “My god, he’s not an animal.”
“Not like your Henry, at the very least.”
Doreen lays a hand in her hip, unimoressed with their banger. “You ladies done with you’re clucking? I have a customer, here.”
“Sod off, Doreen, you’re saying you’re nor curious?” Fruit stand owner snaps back, but with a friendly chide in her tone. “Besides, they just got married, it’s only polite to ask how the groom’s doing.”
Her other two spies don’t even look to believe her excuse, but Doreen rolls her eyes the hardest.
“Yeah, sure.” Doreen turns back to you “Sorry about them, dear. Y’know us old bats and our gossip.”
“Oh, its okay.” It really isn’t, but the opening they have given you is perfect for your second goal of the day. “I know some people were…shocked by the announcement. But he’s really not as monstrous as people describe, he’s actually very sweet and-”
“Is he romantic?” Fruit stand says, cutting off both you and Doreen. Florist slaps her on the shoulder
“Waste of a question, Marge. Obviously he’s a romantic, we all heard how he proposed.”
“I know that Edith.” Marge backs. “But unlike you, I want to hear the whole story, not what everyone’s talking about it.”
“Oh I bet it was a dream.” Seamstress sighs, a fond look in her eyes. “On one knee, his heart on his sleeve, a ring he crafted from precious gemstones from all over the world. But how did he ask the question?”
“Does he cook? All the best men know how to cook.” Marge adds on, craning her head over the others.
“Cooking’s a plus, sure, but does he know to clean? That's the sign of a real winner.” Edith interjects, crossing her arms like she’s had personal experience with the issue.
“Or does he bring you his prize game from the forest? I read a novel like that once, the male lead seemed like a catch and a half.” The seamstress interjects, that dreamlike look still in her eyes.
Doreen is annoyed, trying to ignore them and encourage you to do so well. But you’re a little shell-shocked. When you had first cooked up the cover story, you thought you'd have to sell it a lot more. You definitely weren’t expecting people to eat it up like the morning gossip, nor did you expect such…questions
The story went that the beast, upon first glance with your majesty, had fallen madly in love. He had fought and killed those knights in an attempt court their highness, convinced in his “barbaric” ways that his feats of strength in defeating rival suitors would prove his worthiness to them.
In an act of courage, your majesty had approached the creature, explaining human courting customs properly. Maddened by affection, the beast gave his deepest apologies and crafted a ring of precious jewels, declaring his love in a proper way. Moved by the beast’s feelings and cordiality, their majesty accepted, leaving behind their life of luxury to be with their one true life.
A part of you wanted to tell them that no, Cernon wasn’t a great chef. That he wasn’t necessarily a romantic per say, usually knee deep in muck and laughing when you slipped and fell. He was bad at keeping things in order and frankly, his hair got everywhere.
But he was good at hunting and he always did the dishes when you cooked for you both. He picked up when you slipped and told you how to stand in the mud so you’re more stable. He helped find a place for all your bathroom products and when he noticed you shivering at night, he’d throw an arm and his blanket around you till you get warm again. Cernon was real, genuine, all the messy things in between.
And he had killed people.
That was why you had sold the romanticism of the story so much. That special kind of longing, almost obsession, that seems so glamorous on the outside that you can forgive all the dirty parts you aren’t experiencing.
You feel a bit sick to your stomach, that soft memory of Cernon’s arms wrapped around now xon striding and hot. It was wet and had a metal tang.
“Dear? Everything alright?” You’re snapped back into the present and out of thr unknown, four old women staring at you curiosly.
“Oh yes, I just…” You pick at your knuckles, an old habit from childhood, “...It’s been so wonderful these past weeks, I guess it’s the honeymoon bliss.” You rest you chin in thr plan if yoru hand for added effect. “Not sure if I’m an accurate witness.”
The three in the back bluster, eyes darting in between each other like they know they're gonna gossip more about this later. Doreen’s smile is softer, content with your own happiness.
“Well, I’m glad to see it’s well and good. Now, you three,” Doreen points her spatula to the hens, “Go back and finish up the dishes from breakfast with these idle hands of yours. It’s too early for this much chit-chat.”
The three graciously retreat, though you do hear a little bit of murmuring of excited banter. Doreen rolls her eyes, handing you your groceries as you pass over some coin.
Before you can back away, she grabs your wrist.
“If you need anything, just always know we’re here, ok dear?” She pats the top of your hand, “You don’t have to do anything alone.”
You smile, whispering a shaky ‘thanks’ and rushing out before the tears fully settle in your eyes.
While it wasn’t necessarily needed, it was nice knowing you had someone in your corner.
The rest of the grocery shopping goes by with ease. Most of the shopkeeps are too baffled by your humble appearance to ask any prying questions, even though you can tell they want to. You are even able to pick up some extra stuff for a recipe Cernin wants to try out. He had read it in a cookbook brought from the palace and you had caught him eyeing over the text multiple times since then.
But the hours of stares and walking do get a bit tiring, leaving you drained by the time you reach the forest edge. With the boughs of trees shifting and shadows leaping out of the way to make your way back home, your mind is elft wandering.
Who exactly were you falling for? The beast in the woods, or Cernon?
You’re hunched over, wiping sweat from your neck with a handkerchief, when it happens.
It’s the heat of the day, a morning of barn deep-cleaning behind you, and Cernon is in the kitchen grabbing water for you both. As much as he shied away from your more material things, he’s taken up to filling your nice pitcher with lemon water every morning.
You’re a bit away from the house, sitting on a shady patch of grass. The thick forest side looks a little less ominous than before, but still conceals the shuffling and trotting of the boar. It’s only when she trots a few feet away from your patch that you notice her at all, jolting in surprise. She reminds you a bit of Sheila, one of the few pigs you’ve ever met, but far more grizzled. Maybe that's why you don’t feel as anxious as you should when she begins to huff, eyeing you warily. Pure inexperience proves to be to your detriment at this moment. You begin to kiss your lips together, rubbing your fingers together with a false treat. You’ve seen Cernon do this to the girls before.
Maybe she’s hurt? She seems nervous.
You slowly rise to your knees and her size becomes more apparent at eye level. If you had thought your hogs were massive before, that assumption has swiftly been corrected.
It takes only the smallest movement, a 2-inch step forward to spook her. That snuffling you associate with the girls isn’t playful or content, it’s a warning. It’s in a millisecond that you realize you’re in danger, the same millisecond that the boar charges.
You fall from your uneven footing and onto your butt, crawling backwards with wide eyes. The boar's tusks gleam in the light, all hard edges and bone white. Your stomach sinks low, your heart beating directly in your ears. Everything is so fast, colors blurring together, so you barely even register when Cernon pounces on the boar.
All you can see is the strong plane of his back, one set of his arms holding onto the boars tusks and the other digging his hands into the ground. The boar's sheer mass is able to push him back a couple feet, but he uses her tusks as leverage to whip her head around and throw her off her center. His hands lose grip on her weapons, both of them discombobulated as they try to regain the upper hand. His back paws dig leaves trails of upturned dirt behind him.
He swings one of his massive clawed hands at her face, trying to take out her eyes, but he misses. The boar has corrected herself and swings her large head under Cernon’s arms, colliding with his chest with a sickening crack. Spit flies from Cernons mouth as a breath claws its way out of him. His name dies on your lips, terror and shock robbing your voice from you.
But then Cernon roars.
It’s deep, shuddering through the ground and the woods as his claws dig into the boar's sides, raking deep crimson lines as she squeals. He uses both arms to push her up and away from his chest, throwing her against the side of a tree. She collides with a thud but rolls down, body limp.
Cernon falls to his knees, his chest heaving. You scramble onto your legs, nearly face planting as you run toward him.
His eyes, exhausted, swoop towards you. He bites his lip as a shock of pain coils through him, grasping his side. But he’s able to turn towards the house, barely applying pressure to push himself up to stand. Your arms swoop under his shoulders, just above his lower set of arms. The adrenaline is so potent, you don’t even register how heavy he is.

Actually that got me thinking: differences in standard kitchens through Tamrielic cultures? (I imagine the smells in each would be amazing)
In my opinion, the best sort of kitchen is one that is both accessible and functional. Due to the differences in regional cuisine, kitchens vary in design and features, as well as the affluence of their owners. Regardless of where you are in Tamriel, the main features of all kitchens include some sort of grill or spit (generally fired by wood or coal), and a preparation area. Washing up usually occurs in a separate wet room, or is done outdoors to avoid mess and slippery accidents, while storage can also be designated to external pantries.
One of the most important features of a kitchen to me is the amount of storage space reserved for ingredients, both fresh and dry. While I grew up oscillating between Nordic and Cyrodiilic kitchens, which usually use shelves and tables for storing goods, my favourite format would definitely be either Khajiiti, Breton, or Altmeri kitchens due to their ingenious use of space. Spices are meticulously stored in jars stored on wall-mounted racks, fresh and dried herbs and other ingredients hang from hooks and ropes from the ceiling, and there's a spot for every utensil you can think of in ingeniously designed sliding chests and cabinets.
Kitchens can also be indoors or outdoors, depending on where in Tamriel you are. Argonians and Bosmer in particular favour the outdoor kitchen due to their penchant for coal-grilled foods, which, for obvious reasons, aren't particularly good to cook indoors. You can also find a combined indoor-outdoor kitchen plan in Hammerfell and Elsweyr, where messy cooking (like deep frying), strong-smelling food like curries, and preparation is done outdoors while the bulk of cooking and plating up occurs indoors.
When it comes to other perishables like fresh fish, fruit, and dairy, cooling chests (often enchanted, or kept cold with ice wraith teeth or frost salts) and designated cold rooms can be a necessity, especially in hot and muggy environments like coastal Hammerfell, Valenwood, Elsweyr, and Black Marsh. Cold rooms in particular are costly to build, and are usually a communal facility shared by multiple villagers. Contrary to popular belief, many ingredients, such as vegetables, do not require much in the way of refrigeration, and as such, a simple stone or earth cellar is sufficient with regards to keeping fresh food cool and dry. These can be built into more affluent kitchens, or form a separate room or building.
Wine cellars and cool, dry spaces for storing and curing meats and cheeses are specific to the Provinces of Skyrim, High Rock, Summerset, and to a certain extent in Cyrodiil. Like cooling facilities, these can be either built into large kitchens, like that at Dragonsreach, or are located in a separate pantry or cellar.
Last but not least, we come to ovens! Ovens are one of the most important features in any kitchen in colder regions of Tamriel, such as in Skyrim and Wrothgar, as they serve the dual purpose of heating up the surrounding building too. As a result, ovens here tend to be larger and connected to pipes and chimneys that weave throughout one's home. In places like southern Cyrodiil, Hammerfell, and Elsweyr, ovens are primarily set outdoors to avoid the problem of adding extra heat indoors.
That about sums up the kitchens of Tamriel. Any other burning questions on specifics? Feel free to write in!

Alright we've finally reached the basement and backyard! This one might be extra long because there's a lot to cover
Tumblr media
(image credits to/designs made using the app HomeByMe from Dassault Systèmes SE)
I don't think you can tell from the picture but there's a retaining wall across the front due to the hill that butts up against the front of the house, as mentioned in the last installment. There wasn't a front yard in the last part bc I imagine they're kind of right on the road (sort of like the og full house) and the driveway wraps around one side and down from the road in front to the garage in the back (I had already added a lot of extra space and stuff to this level and the app was starting to get a little glitchy so I decided against expanding the area further lol)
So anyway, the basement is where a lot of the various practical function type rooms are; we've got the laundry room in the front, the kitchen and the dining room on the right, etc.
There's the garage, please ignore the car that's in there as there weren't a lot of options and I know that one little minivan (I think it was a minivan?) is definitely not going to cut it for a household of this size but they didn't have any actual vans and I didn't have space to include multiple cars, so just use your imagination and picture that there are two more cars parked outside along the driveway or smthn (I'm thinking Steve has his car but he mostly lets Nancy or Jonathan drive it since his vision is starting to get worse, Eddie has his van, and Argyle still has the surfer boy pizza van bc he got to keep his old job but got transferred to a new location. Don't question the logistics of that it's not important)
You're probably wondering what the hell a "dog room?" is. I couldn't think of a better name for it, but basically I decided they should have a dog and that they adopt a stray they find, and this is the room where they keep the dog stuff. He's got a bed and a crate and his bowls in there, and it's also where they keep his food and all the other dog-related supplies. There's a door giving direct access to the yard from this room, and a hook by the door to hold a leash. All that said, the dog doesn't end up actually being in this room all that much besides when he eats, since everyone takes turns letting him sleep in their rooms and he's pretty much glued to his humans' sides when they're home
Beside the dog room is the aforementioned laundry room. I haven't decided for sure yet whether each person is responsible for their own laundry or if there's a designated laundry-doer (as well as other assigned chore roles) so we'll have to come back to that later
Next is the kitchen, and I'm following the lead of what seems to be majority consensus in fandom that Steve is a good cook, so he's usually the one making family meals in here. Also, El frequently sneaks down into the basement for late night eggos, and Will- who had become familiar with this habit of hers during their time in Lenora- sometimes accompanies her (trust that this au will have some strong willel sibling vibes bc its one of my favorite underexplored tropes in canon)
The kitchen is connected to the dining room; they're not actually separate rooms there's just a sort of mostly-for-aesthetic-purposes divider between them. The dining room is where they sit when everyone shares a meal or when they have company over for dinner, otherwise people just sort of take their food wherever they want if they're eating alone. They eat dinner together most nights
There's a door from the dining room out onto a patio, which is fitting since the patio is pretty much just a smaller, outdoor dining room (that's a picnic table in the middle). They grill sometimes but also just go out there to eat like, pb&js and chips in the warm sunlight and fresh air. It's also a place to sit and dry off or hang out after a swim, and the lower end has a pool shed where they store stuff like floats and nets and salt bags
Past the pool shed is the actual pool, which is an emotionally weighted part of the setting for several characters. El doesn't like the pool very much and mostly avoids it at first, but eventually she grows to love swimming (this au is also going to involve a lot of reclamation of things formerly tied to trauma). Steve on the other hand has very mixed feelings about the pool which he mostly tries to ignore. Mike tends to get weirdly clingy when Will wants to swim and always insists on going with him
Next to the back door is the external stairs to the deck on the first floor, and right inside the door is another mud room (don't ask me why they need two I didn't know what else to put in the space ok? Besides maybe it's just a matter of preference, some people prefer coming in through the basement and some prefer coming in through the first floor). Further in is the living room, which is sort of a more formal/intimate gathering space in some ways compared to the den upstairs; the den is for friends and neighbors, the living room is for family, if that makes sense? Or just for more "serious" company or family meetings
Back out into the yard, there's the gardening/tool shed, where Argyle likes to build birdhouses and the original party likes to tinker with old electronics, and where they keep the supplies for the greenhouse right next to it. They started growing their own fruits and vegetables out of necessity at first, back when everyone was nervous to leave the house, but now its use is mostly split between what Steve grows for use in the kitchen and Eddie & Argyle's home-grown weed
I think that's just about everything. The next installments will most likely be about roommate pairings and more in-depth bedroom designs

This building looks like an historic villa, but it was actually built in 2000 in Ketchum, Idaho. On the ground floor is a wonderful store and the residence above is a 3bd, 3ba penthouse. There's also a 1bd, 1ba apt. $9.995M.
Tumblr media
The store is a lovely high end furnishings store.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The retail space takes up 2 floors and it looks like they specialize in area rugs.
Tumblr media
In the residence there's a cozy living room with a raised rustic stone fireplace.
Tumblr media
Not sure if they own the store or just shop there, but the style is the same. The dining room is spacious and has doors to the terrace.
Tumblr media
I'm amazed at how they designed the kitchen to basically camouflage the fact that it's a kitchen. There's even a loveseat beside the island.
Tumblr media
The primary bedroom has a lovely faux finish on the walls.
Tumblr media
The en-suite bath is large and has a nice reproduction vintage tub.
Tumblr media
Roomy family room doubles as a guest room.
Tumblr media
They're showing this small kitchen, so I'm not sure if it's the apt. kitchen or a kitchenette in the main residence.
Tumblr media
From the terrace there's a beautiful view of the mountains.
Tumblr media
This is nice- an outdoor kitchen and built-in stone table.
Tumblr media
There's also a large fountain.
Tumblr media
Closeup of the building's architectural detail.
Tumblr media
From this photo, it looks like the building is attached to another store, like a mini mall.
Tumblr media
The arrow is pointing to a courtyard in the middle of the residence.

A Comprehensive Guide to Preparing Your Las Vegas Home for a Kitchen Remodeling Project
Tumblr media
Embarking on kitchen remodeling in your Las Vegas home is an exciting endeavor that promises to enhance both the functionality and aesthetics of one of the most important spaces in your house. However, before you dive headfirst into the renovation process, it’s essential, to adequately prepare your home to ensure a smooth and successful project. In this insider’s guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to prepare your Las Vegas home for a kitchen remodel, ensuring that every aspect is thoughtfully considered and executed.
Plan Your Budget and Design: Before you begin any physical preparations, it’s crucial to establish a realistic budget for your kitchen remodel. Consider factors such as materials, labor costs, permits, and contingencies to ensure you have a comprehensive understanding of the financial aspects of your project. Additionally, work with a reputable kitchen contractor like GI Construction to create a detailed design plan that aligns with your vision and budget.
Clear Out the Kitchen: Start by removing all items from your kitchen cabinets, drawers, and countertops. Store kitchen essentials in temporary storage containers to keep them organized and easily accessible during the remodeling process. Clearing out the space will not only make it easier for contractors to work but also protect your belongings from dust and damage.
Set Up a Temporary Kitchen: Since your kitchen will be out of commission during the remodel, it’s essential to set up a temporary kitchen in another area of your home. Designate a space for essentials such as a microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, and refrigerator to ensure you can still prepare meals and snacks while your kitchen is undergoing renovations.
Protect Flooring and Furniture: Cover your floors and nearby furniture with protective materials such as drop cloths or plastic sheeting to prevent damage from dust, debris, and heavy foot traffic. This step is especially crucial if you have hardwood, tile, or laminate flooring that you want to preserve during the remodel.
Secure Pets and Children: Remodeling projects can be noisy, chaotic, and potentially hazardous, especially for pets and young children. Make arrangements to keep your pets in a safe and comfortable area away from the construction zone, such as a gated room or outdoor space. Similarly, establish ground rules and safety protocols to ensure the well-being of children during the remodeling process.
Communicate with Your Contractor: Effective communication with your kitchen contractor is key to a successful remodeling project. Discuss important details such as project timelines, work schedules, and any specific preferences or concerns you may have. Maintain open lines of communication throughout the process to address any issues or changes promptly.
Prepare for Disruptions: Kitchen remodels can disrupt your daily routine and lifestyle, so it’s essential to prepare yourself mentally and emotionally for the temporary inconvenience. Be flexible and adaptable, and focus on the long-term benefits of the remodel rather than the short-term disruptions.
Consider Accessibility Needs: If you or a family member have specific accessibility needs, such as mobility challenges or dietary restrictions, take these into account when planning your kitchen remodel. Work with your contractor to incorporate features such as lower countertops, wheelchair ramps, or accessible storage solutions to ensure that your new kitchen is functional and inclusive for everyone.
Stay Organized and Flexible: Throughout the remodeling process, stay organized by keeping track of important documents, receipts, and communication with your contractor. Remain flexible and open to adjustments as the project progresses, as unexpected challenges or opportunities may arise that require adaptation to the original plan.
Trust the Experts: Finally, trust in the expertise and professionalism of your kitchen contractor, such as GI Construction. With their knowledge, experience, and dedication to quality craftsmanship, they will guide you through every step of the remodeling process and ensure that your vision for your Las Vegas home’s new kitchen becomes a reality.
Obtain Necessary Permits: Before commencing any construction work, it’s essential to obtain the necessary permits from the local authorities in Las Vegas. Your kitchen contractor, such as GI Construction, can assist you in navigating the permitting process and ensuring that all necessary approvals are obtained before work begins. This step is crucial to avoid any legal complications and ensure that your remodel complies with building codes and regulations.
Protect Valuables and Fragile Items: Before the start of construction, take the time to safeguard valuables and fragile items in your home. Remove any artwork, decorative pieces, or sentimental items from the kitchen and surrounding areas to prevent damage during the remodeling process. Consider storing these items in a secure location until the project is complete to ensure their safety.
Coordinate Delivery of Materials: If you’ve selected specific materials or fixtures for your kitchen remodel, coordinate their delivery with your contractor to ensure they arrive on time and are readily available when needed. This proactive approach helps prevent delays and keeps the project on schedule, allowing for a smoother and more efficient remodeling process.
Communicate Any Changes or Concerns: Throughout the kitchen remodel, maintain open lines of communication with your contractor and promptly communicate any changes or concerns that arise. Whether it’s a design alteration, unexpected budget adjustment, or scheduling conflict, addressing issues proactively helps minimize disruptions and ensures that the project stays on track.
Plan for Clean-Up and Post-Construction: As the kitchen remodeling project nears completion, discuss clean-up and post-construction activities with your contractor. Ensure that the work area is thoroughly cleaned and debris removed before final inspection. Additionally, inquire about any warranties or maintenance recommendations for newly installed fixtures or appliances to prolong their lifespan and preserve the integrity of your newly renovated kitchen.
Enjoy Your Newly Remodeled Kitchen: Once the construction dust has settled and the finishing touches are in place, take a moment to savor the fruits of your labor and enjoy your newly remodeled kitchen. Whether you’re cooking a gourmet meal, entertaining guests, or simply relaxing with your morning coffee, your revamped kitchen is sure to enhance your daily life and elevate your home living experience in Las Vegas.
From careful planning and preparation to skilled execution and attentive communication, every step of the kitchen remodeling process plays a crucial role in achieving the desired outcome. By following this insider’s guide and partnering with a reputable kitchen contractor like GI Construction, you can confidently navigate the complexities of a kitchen remodel and transform your Las Vegas home into a stunning culinary retreat that reflects your style and meets your functional needs.

Soo i do have some ideas for every type
Elemental: Hunting(obviously), Hiking(Outdoors really), Shop for fireworks or other random things
Ceremonial: Typical fortune teller shop, Graveyard accessories etc.
Kitchen: Caffeé, Restaurant(of any kind), Baking accessories(like forms etc.)
Garden: A gardening shop(helping design one or build one), Flower shop(exotic ones, local ones etc.), Drug store(Hemp?, Apothecary)
Techno: Electronic Shop(obviously), Online Marketplace/security network company
Hope that helps?
It does immensely!
I am currently just collecting some ideas I think, if anything really comes of it... I don't know.
I also have this idea to draw up one shop layout (to simplify writing about it) but having the reader choose the objects that are gonna be placed in specific spots. Depending on how many suggestions I get there I could do something like these community pack polls EA sometimes does for The Sims.
Please lovely readers if you have an idea for a shop and objects (or anything) you wanna sell there: SEND THEM MY WAY
With the most heartfelt hugs and kisses
In deep devotion
