Mackenzie rolled her shoulders, finishing her coffee and setting the mug in the sink, leaning over the counter. She needed a second to collect herself. She had to be strong for this. She had to.

"Okay." Mackenzie stood straight. "Everyone get ready. Get your spells together, your weapons, whatever you're bringing with you. We have three days to prepare." She started towards the living room, stopping to look back at everyone. "James gets first watch. Since I know nobody's leaving me by myself until this is handled, I might as well get a vote in who's on Oracle Duty."

Mackenzie nodded at what Nick suggested, watching Alec and chewing her lip. Okay, yeah. Helpful. She looked up at James, pausing for a long moment.

Oh… boy… she’d forgotten he didn’t know.

The oracle cleared her throat, taking another drink of her coffee. “James, I can see the future.”

“I don’t know how we’ve gone this long without you figuring it out,” Hale snorted. “It’s a little obvious sometimes. Her eyes glow.”

“And I say what I see when I’m having a vision,” Mackenzie added. “It’s not the most subtle of abilities.”

“And it’s why he’s coming after her,” Nari said slowly. “It’s the same reason he went after her parents. She gets it from her mom.”

Mackenzie nodded. “That’s why the wedding invitation was…” She closed her eyes. “He kidnapped my father the night before my parents’ wedding. He made a ransom demand, said that if my mom used her visions to do whatever he wanted, he’d let my dad go.”

“And I’m a blind motherfucker, we know this,” James points out, raising an eyebrow and crossing his arms, shrugging. “I guess I’ve been distracted.”

Jackie rubs her face and shakes her head. Maybeck’s jaw is dropped, staring at James, shaking his head slowly. Kyla laughs quietly to herself and rolls her eyes. Xinyi smiles but straightens up when they get back to the matter at hand. Min shakes his head.

James flinches and mutters under his breath, something to do with Axthys, shaking his head. “We’re not letting him get away again. We’re getting him this time, Kenz. I swear it.”

“Agreed,” Sylvia rolls out her neck. “So… Mackenzie pretends to be alone, Mel and Sam cloak the rest of us, Alec stays nearby in bat form to swoop in if he has to before the rest of us can?”

“And me, I can also cloak. So could the Spudinskis, but they won’t,” Maybeck raises a hand.

“Nope,” Jackie holds up her hands. “I’ve got these!” She produces the brass knuckles she’d brought with her.
