Lisa Frankenstein / Beetlands AU! @bunnys-beetlejuice-blog
Originally, I thought of Lydia being Lisa, of course. She is a weird girl who befriends a strange undead creature. Perfect.
BUT I wanted to think of a fun Beetlands AU specifically, (also the romantic aspect would be gross when applied to her undead creature) so Lydia is instead perhaps a more gothy version of Taffy.
I had two ideas for this that I bounced around in my discord: Beej as the Creature, and Beej as Lisa.
With Beej as the Creature, Barbara would be Lisa, and Adam would be (as partially suggested by @ten-chocolate-sundaes thank you bestie) a best friend character type that goes along with Barb bc he has a crush on her, but eventually he falls for the Creature too. As Ezri said, Barbara deserves to go a little insane. I would love to see her go crazy in cute outfits. Barbara deserves a “coming of rage” story.
Characters would obviously be shifted around with Charles as Dale and Delia as Janet, although she’d probably be less abusive and more just eccentric and pushy. Beej as the Creature would kill her for what he perceives as a slight towards Barbara but was probably just her pushing way too hard on some sort of healing retreat or something that Barb really didn’t want to go on. Adam would get more involved after Otho or Maxie Dean as Doug gets killed, and Beej would be nonverbally suggesting a lot of the more crazy ideas (like murder and a wardrobe change), since I feel like it would take more of a push to get Barbara and Adam both to Lisa’s level of crazy (/affectionate).
HOWEVER. Beej as Lisa is so fuckin funny to me.
Same set up with the family, maybe with Juno instead of Delia as Janet?
Beej as a nerdy teen that becomes a melodramatic goth, in love with a reanimated couple who heard his heartfelt woes in the cemetery and decided to help him and soon realizes they’re both in love with him too? Phenomenal. 11/10. I’d kill to see him in that one flowy dress, yelling “THAT GOOD FOR NOTHING NOSY BITCH”!! And for Adam and Barbara to be willing to bash someone’s head and chop off a hand for being too mean to Beej.
The Maitlands I think fit the heart the Creature has a bit more, and it would be cute to think of them as doomed Victorian lovers who perhaps died on their wedding night or something like that. Corpse Bride style!
That’s all I have for now, I plan on rewatching the movie tomorrow to flesh it out haha

What if Post-Yellow Jacket Ethan adopted all the magic roller rink kids?
At this point, Lex and Hannah leaving Hatchetfeild probably wouldn't spare him from getting hurt by Charlie and his men. He held him at gunpoint, he knows too much about the fighting rink, and what's more, he may not know where Lex and Hannah are, but Charlie doesn't know/might not believe that (either that or he might use him as bait to lure the Fosters back to Hatchetfeild). He just can't go back to living a normal life at this point.
In the same vein, the roller rink kids aren't safe to go back to their homes. Their parents might not be able to protect their children, assuming they were clearly much more dependent on the rink for income. They might even leave to keep them safer.
Just picture a bunch of superpowered teenagers wanting to rescue Sophia, and the boy Otho posessed showing up on the doorstep of the only person they've ever seen pull one over on Charlie, and Ethan unable to ever turn away a troubled kid in need (especially those who were so friendly to Hannah) just accepts his inevitable fate.
It's not just about his strength or protective capabilities, though. Remember, Ethan now has a huge apartment full of toys and games, which otherwise would go to waste, and has always been the one to cheer both Hannah and Lex in hard times so he would be a great source of comfort to these kids, especially after saving Otho's former victims, they both need that stability and support after what happened to them.
In return, the kids give Ethan a new sense of purpose. The older kids like Sophia and Daniel help out around the place and hold down the fort while Ethan is working and look after the smaller kids.
A comfortable pattern is established of spending the days snooping around for clues about Charlie's operation before crashing out on the bounce house, (which is covered in sleeping bags and blankets to create the ultimate sleep fortress) with take out pizza and whatever movies they can get their hands on.
Duke finds out that Ethan has been looking after a bunch of runaway kids on his minimum income (because you can't hide that sort of thing forever, not from Duke) and after extensively explaining the whole deal to him he agrees to cover for the kids absences, raise funds to help with food and maintenance costs as well as looking into the wealthy clientel who attend the rink fights. He even brings the cat to cheer the kids up.
He lets Miss Holiday in on the secret, and she helps the kids understand and get better control over their new powers without the use of mind milk. She also uses her staff connections at Hatchetfeild High to get ahold of textbooks and old test papers so the kids don't fall behind. This moves Ethan to tears for some reason. Only Duke understands why.
It still hurts, losing the Fosters, for both Lex's lover and for Hannah's friends. But the pain is a lot more numbed when the cavity is filled with new people to love instead.

Gamilith an amrâl: A letter for a lover
Hello, hello!! Here's the first chapter of my new fanfiction - my first AU, my take on the Alternative Meeting AU from the Bagginshield Year.
Tags:
Alternative meeting;
Blacksmith Thorin;
Letters;
Exiled prince Thorin;
Slow Burn;
courting;
happy ending;
meet cute
angst and fluff;
I said I wouldn’t write angst you know like a LIAR
Summary:
Bilbo Baggins’ letter was different from all the others Thorin had received at that time. First, Bilbo actually got his name right. Very little people cared to learn Thorin’s name those days, so most of his packages were sent as “to the blacksmith in the woods”. He used to have a name, a title and a kingdom. And then, after the dragon fire, all was left were ashes, a hunted kingless kingdom and the bitter taste of defeat. Yet, somehow as if a miracle, there is was: “To Mister Thorin, Blacksmith from Erebor”. or Alternative Meeting AU where Blacksmith Thorin meets the most curious hobbit by pure luck. And they fall in love with each line of their letters to each other.
preview of Bilbo's first letter:
“Greeting, Master Thorin. My name is Bilbo Baggins, the rightful heir to Bag End – the loveliest place on Shire, in my most humble opinion.
With winter dreadfully stretching its claws into the Shire, I was reminded of some long awaited repairs that must be done until the longer, colder months come. While chatting with some of my neighbors, your services have been very much recommended – a blessing of Yavanna herself.
You see, we do have a family of barely decent Blacksmiths here in good old Shire. However, all of them are related to Lobelia.
If you are not familiar with that name, and I must add how I envy you for this ignorance, Lobelia Sackville-Baggins is, much unfortunately, my relative. That dreadful, nightmare born of a woman is married to my cousin, Otho – who is just as much of bad news as Lobelia, I must warn. Her greediness knows no limits – always scheming, plans born from her endless gold lust, that terrible woman. Please do apologize what I am about to say – I can swear to you that I was raised to become one of the finest gentlehobbits this blessed Shire has ever seen – However, I would much rather crew off my lovely feet with my own bare teeth than give any of my coin to Lobelia – directly or indirectly. As I worry that even being at the same room as her, breathing the same air and sharing space, would stain my soul.”
Thorin has to stop his reading to take a breather. He hadn’t realized how hard he was laughing until his cheeks started to hurt. Who on Earth was this person?

It is endlessly amusing to me that in canon Kon and Kenan are besties, Paige and Omen are besties(*cough* LOVERS), then there's also Paige and Kara, Kara and Nat, Otho & Osul, the supertwins with Kara and Kon, and Kenan, etc. Like most of the kids have relationships with each other.
But Jon is barely in touch with any of them except MAYBE Nat. The only ones he actually tries with are the twins and that's because they are his literal siblings.
You can ask Kenan to point out Jon in a crowd and he would tell you"I don't fucking know" because these two have not ever hung out together alone. Paige has ACTUALLY told Kara "hey don't tell Jon but you're my favorite". Jon was seething jealous of Kon's jacket and accused Clois of replacing him with a version of him that was gayer had better fashion sense and then every interaction thereafter was just polite but with a hint of Jon definitely plotting to steal his jacket.
Like DUDE. Talk to your family! Jon's the one in the family who just puts his headphones on during family reunions and sits in a corner after cursory greetings to everyone.

Notes on Agrippina in Racine's Britannicus.
Again indebted to Argent's discussion on the play. I only seriously disagree with him in his interpretation of Octavian (I have given mine here).
(1) Nero, as Argent puts it, is a riddle because he always performs, and this is what makes him truly fascinating and unsettling. There is a distance between what he is and what he performs. The darkness behind the mask.
I would argue Agrippina a riddle, for a different but related reason: there is a distance between what she used to be and what she is. The past we never see.
Britannicus is a play about power, unchecked, creating a monster.
Agrippina's power is ruined before the play even starts. But it used to be there. In Agrippina's own words:
"When, my hand guiding the affairs of state, The senate, at my call, would congregate. Then, veiled but present, I would play my role: That august body’s all-controlling soul."
[Jean Racine’s Britannicus; Translated into English Rhymed Couplets by Geoffrey Alan Argent.]
And later, speaking about her taking over Claudius' authority:
"Too late: bed, palace, guards were in my power"
[Ibid.]
After another transfer of power, the "veiled but present""all-controlling soul" is now Nero himself. Literally: at one point he watches, from behind a curtain, the scene between Junia and Britannicus that he wrote and staged himself.
Agrippina is very human in this play. She can be so only because she has been forcibly removed from power. By the rules of the play, one cannot both reign and be human.
She was a monster, and indeed could have continued to be, had the past events played out differently  - but we never see her be one. I would like to see that! Let me in!
By the time of the play, Agrippina has undergone a reverse transformation, monster to human - which is arguably much rarer than "human turned monster". Is it not an interesting case?
It seems she sorely regrets it.
(2) The play starts with Agrippina waiting, before dawn, at Nero's door, intent on catching him once he wakes up - only to find out that, while she thought him sleeping, he has been talking to Burrhus and the consuls there: the consultations from which she was, literally, shut out! This infuriates Agrippina: she accuses Burrhus and the absent Seneca (appointed Nero's tutors through her own grace) of stealing her son from her, and demands they stop meddling.
This scene vividly reminds me of Suetonius Otho 3: "on one occasion, [Otho] even shut out the emperor [Nero] himself, who stood before his door, vainly mingling threats and entreaties and demanding the return of his trust [i.e. Poppaea]".
Let me quote Champlin's commentary on the same scene:
"The story as Suetonius presents it is particularly intriguing. From one angle, Nero is shown as the sad and angry figure of the exclusus amator in love poetry, shouting at his mistress’s closed door: ipsum etiam exclusisse quondam pro foribus astantem miscentemque frustra minas ac preces ad depositum reposcentem. At the same time, there is an elegant legal color, punning on two kinds of contract. Nero made a temporary loan, in that Sabina was demandatam interim to Otho: a mandatum was a contract whereby one party agreed to perform a service gratuitously for another. But when he came to demand her back, he asked for his depositum: a depositum involved the handing over of a thing for safekeeping but not for use. That is, literarily and legally this is a very clever tale, and Suetonius was probably not its inventor." [Edward Champlin: Nero].
Agrippina, at Nero's bedroom door, demanding back her son whom she gave to Seneca and Burrhus for safekeeping, seems strikingly similar in tone to Nero demanding back his lover.
Agrippina is wrong, however, to put the responsibility on the tutors while it is Nero himself who plays them (and hides behind them for a while). There is a parallel fo this too: Plutarch (Life of Galba 19.4-5), commenting in the same situation as Suetonius, tells us that it was Poppaea herself who would shut out Nero, using Otho as a mere pretext.

well i am asking about your nero pdfs
there are many books & nero biographies that give a general analysis of nero's character and/or his principate and are easy to find + access (i always recommend edward champlin and myriam griffin), but aside from these obvious sources, here are some interesting pdfs/articles that i've come across with nero trivia i have not found elsewhere
neronia electronica is an electronic review in several parts, most articles are in french (i do read french & can translate for anyone interested), but some are in english - this is where i've learned that nero wrote his own version of euripides' bacchae
not a pdf, but here is a good link on nero as the antichrist in christian lore. and check out the emperor nero in talmudic legend by s.j bastomsky for nero in jewish lore.
georgios andrikopoulos' magic and the roman emperors has a chapter on nero starting from p.55 describing his interest in the occult and his relationship with tiridates (magus king of parthia). btw, there is a mysterious mention of nero owning a "man eating monster from egypt" for sacrificial purposes - that was probably a crocodile, lol
david braund's treasure trove and nero is about nero's failed search for queen dido's legendary carthaginian treasure, which is also a nero story i didn't know.
lastly, nero and sporus again by michael charles is a good debunking of the (in my opinion piss poor) claim that sporus may have been tiberius' illegitimate heir, but the one interesting piece of information that i have found in it is that there were rumors about nero and otho having been lovers in their younger years. lmao imagine.
this is what comes to mind for now... im always learning about nero & since i am learning about so many other things at the same time i always feel like i'm behind tbh. my current writing project involves nero soo in the upcoming years i will probably know a lottt more and have a lot more pdfs lol but i'm planning on publishing my research on this blog anyway ✌️😊

Gaius Sofonius Tigellinus
Tumblr media
Tigellinus was a prefect of praetorian guard during Nero's reign. Most likely he was introduced by Agrippina the younger because he was her lover. (When Caligula was the emperor, he expelled Tigellinus. Then Sofonius returned in Rome under emperor Claudius) He sold horses and that was the the reason he was close with Nero. Young man liked chariot racing, so horses united them.
In 62 Tigellinus became a prefect of guard instead of Afranius Burrus ( Nero's teacher who died because of illness. )
When Nero was absent, Tigellinus ruled Rome instead of him. Anyway, people hated him. When Nero killed himself and a senator Galba became the emperor, people wanted to get Tigellinus head.
He died in 69, when Otho overthrowed Galba. New governor ordered him to die.

Clark Gable and Carole Lombard in No Man of Her Own (Wesley Ruggles, 1932)
Cast: Clark Gable, Carole Lombard, Dorothy Mackaill, Grant Mitchell, Elizabeth Patterson, George Barbier, J. Farrell MacDonald, Tommy Conlon, Walter Walker, Paul Ellis, Charley Grapewin. Screenplay: Maurine Dallas Watkins, Milton Herbert Gropper, Edmund Goulding, Benjamin Glazer, based on a novel by Val Lewton. Cinematography: Lee Tover. Film editing: Otho Lovering. Costume design: Travis Banton.
If actors weren't cattle, as Alfred Hitchcock is reported to have said, they were at least property, and their studios treated them as such. Clark Gable was becoming one of MGM's most valuable properties when he was loaned out to Paramount to make the only film in which he starred with Carole Lombard, who later became his wife. It was part of a complicated talent swamp initiated by Marion Davies, who had clout with MGM because of her relationship with William Randolph Hearst, who produced films for her that were distributed by MGM. Davies wanted Bing Crosby for a movie, so Paramount traded him to MGM for Gable and No Man of Her Own. Lombard became his co-star only because Miriam Hopkins didn't want to take second billing to Gable. The studio mountains labored to bring forth a cinematic mouse: a passable romantic comedy remembered only for the star teaming. Gable and Lombard are very good in it, though he comes off somewhat better than she does. Lombard was best in movies that gave her license to clown, like Twentieth Century (Howard Hawks, 1934) and My Man Godfrey (Gregory La Cava, 1936). In No Man of Her Own she's simply a woman who knows what she wants, and it isn't necessarily Gable, it's just to get out of the dull little town where she's the librarian. Gable on the other hand is in a role tailor-made for him: "Babe" Stewart, a raffish professional poker player who's as adept at wooing women as he is at cheating at cards. On the verge of getting caught by the detective (J. Farrell MacDonald) who's been tailing him, he skips town and winds up in the burg that Lombard's Connie Randall wants to escape. She catches his eye -- in one pre-Code scene she climbs a ladder and he looks up her skirt -- and with improbable speed they get married. Eventually she finds out that he's not the stockbroker he pretends to be, but nothing fazes her. He gets in trouble again, but just as he's about to take it on the lam, deserting her, he finds of course that he really loves her. The story lacks snap and tension: It was cobbled together from several sources, nominally from a novel by Val Lewton called No Bed of Her Own, a title the Hays Office nixed, but also from another story in Paramount's files. What life the film has comes from Wesley Ruggles's direction and from its performers, including Dorothy Mackaill as Babe's former partner in card-sharping. Lombard and Gable work well together, but reportedly didn't strike any off-screen sparks at the time -- they were both married to other people. They met again at a party four years later and were married in 1939.

She opened her mouth to say she didn’t think he even knew her when he had his fall but Echo spoke up quickly as if reading her thoughts. She chuckled a bit at this and only gave a playful roll of her eyes as the lemur rounded on Echo.
“Oh? I donno. Probably not but he can hang from them if he wanted.” She reasoned with a bright smile up at her lover before she regarded Otho. “But I bet you could make some really long leaps from tree to tree. Your tail looks like it would give you plenty of grace and balance. I’m surprised you even took a fall down the stairs. I’d hardly imagine you could stumble. “
Blood and Moonlight
Sasuga woke in what was at first an unfamiliar area but as she blinked fully awake she realized it was their closet that Coyote had decorated for them. She smiled and took a careful kiss from her mate who was still sound asleep next to her. It really had been an amazing night with the family and then with her husband. As she slipped from his arms, she took a moment to look at her reflection in the mirror, her fingers dancing over the fresh marks on her neck and hips. She couldn't have asked for anything more from the night and it was with some reluctance that she dressed. She picked out a pair of warm leggings and a short little skirt to pull over them with some knee high boots and a thick sweater. She slipped from the closet and moved to the bathroom to comb her hair and brush her teeth and get ready for the big day ahead. She gave a stretch and headed downstairs only to find a familiar face waiting for her. "Raphael..." she smiled and moved to greet him with a hug. "I see you are still alive." she smirked. "Want some tea? Coffee?"

AVENGERS OF THE MOON (A Captain Future Novel) By Allen Steele Tor Books – Pub 2017 300 pages
In the early part of 1939, veteran sci-fi pulp writer Edmond Hamilton met with Leo Margulies, Better Publication’s editorial director, to discuss the creation of a new title, Captain Future. The lead character of Curt Newton, a super-scientist who lives on the moon and goes by the name Captain Future. The original idea for the character may have come from Mort Weisinger. Captain Future’s companions in the series included an enormously strong robot named Grag, an android named Otho, and the brain of Simon Wright, Newton’s mentor. Joan Randall, Newton’s girlfriend, was also a regular character
Margulies announced the new magazine at the first-ever World Science Fiction Convention held in New York in July 1939. The first issue, edited by Weisinger, appeared in January of the following year. It would last for seventeen issues and is still today considered one of the finest hero pulps ever produced. Still old heroes never die and in 2017, sci-fi author Allen Steele took it up upon himself to revive the series and thus write brand new adventures of Captain Future and the Futuremen.
It appears (and we could be wrong) that he’s written four, this being the first. Of course, Steele could have merely reinvented the entire concept given us new characters, and been unimpeded by what Hamilton had done. Instead, to our delirious delight, he merely adapted the originals to work in an era compatible with our current knowledge of science and space exploration. This is a full-blown origin story built on a Hamilton tale that was only hinted at in the magazine stories. The Futuremen are all here, and Steele has given them unique personalities as are classic Captain Future villains from the pulp days.
In “Avengers of the Moon,” a young Curt Newton is after the man who murdered his parents. With the aid of the Brain, Otho, and Grag, his hunt leads him to uncover a nest of radicals plotting a revolution on Mars against the Solar Coalition. Steele’s pacing is perfect and if you love old-fashioned space operas, it is high time you met Captain Future. For the record, we found out copy in a second-hand bookstore. It’s the kind of treasure any pulp lover would love.

my toybox of bg2 to bg3 consistancy canon is that:
Bhaalspawn otho and xan get it on
xan finds out otho is bhaalspawn and is like. Oh corellon would Not Be Pleased. chooses the moonblade over the boy toy (valid)
Otho starts to embrace the more monstrous parts of himself. Irenicus breaks something in him. Viconia really likes the new otho. she follows him all the way to his ascension. knowing it was doomed from the start, she expresses her heartfelt pride and bittersweet admiration for her ex lover as he becomes a god.
Motherhood doesnt suit viconia. when she gives birth to otho's child, she abandons him to an orphanage in baldur's gate.
Viddhara, the dark urge, grows up much like his father - abandoned by his mother, struggling with forces he doesnt understand. only, when Orin scrambles Viddhara's brain, he rejects his urges, fighting against the taint within as hard as he can. Otho/bhaal calls for his son to answer, and is FURIOUS to hear him refuse. More so furious at Orin for breaking his favourite scion.
