Look, when your parents divorce, you sometimes begin to wonder if love is real. When you find it - even if it's in a sketchy vid taken by three cherub related hell spawns - you jump on it.

Victor and Yuri are likely to see Lilia and Yakov as parent figures. They do be bro fighting. (Yuri wondering is Yuuri is good enough for his big bro with some teen BS tossed in because of course, especially after their 'parents' broke up.) So like...

Honestly? Both their attitudes make scene. Why Yuuri is so important to Victor. Why Otabek seems to calm Yuri down (You NEED a friend some times who doesn't judge your bullshit). Why Yakov is having such a hard time. Why Lilia is so stand-off-ish. Parents who still work together for their kids.

But like, Victor is Yakov's fave and Yuri is Lilia's. Even if it's only a slight advantage to each.

we know the gpf finals are in mid december and victor leaves for japan in mid april, so yakov and lilia’s divorce is very recent. i always imagined it happened years ago, but looks like i was way off.

which brings us to another thing

do you realize how shitty few months these must have been for yakov? first his wife of who-knows-how-many-decades files for divorce, then his star skater (who he probably pretty much thinks of as a son at this point) ditches him without a warning to answer an international bootycall. and let’s not even start with the mess that is the rest of his protégés… this man is in serious need of a holiday.

(things might be looking up for yakov though, since kubo mentioned in an interview that it’s possible him and lilia might get back together one day!)

i may or may not have created a headcanon for myself where victuuri and otayuri are married and have kids. And then I may or may not have created a whole love story plotline between those fan kids and gotten myself invested in the love story between the fan kids that I made up.

Come As You Are by Emily Nagoski -- Everyone read this book to understand your own stress responses if nothing else. Appreciating the science, wishing there was more data/discussion of non-cis people.

Sense 8 -- It's rare to see a show with this big of a cast have fully developed characters like this. Each of the main 8 characters could have their own show, and then they're also a perfectly balanced team with great interactions. Currently midway through season 2.

Man, there are a few of these, and they're almost entirely fandom's fault, either because the popular characterization of the ship/the characters within the ship just isn't my bag OR because I find the fanbase to be repellent in some way. Ships I just plain don't enjoy include: SeriRei, MobTeru, RiTeru, ShimaMine, Jin with anybody but Yuuma if I'm being honest, and OtaYuri

D - A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t:

I don't know if I have those kind of feelings? I mean, if I actually WANT to like a thing I usually find some permutation of the interpersonal dynamic that appeals to me, and lean into it accordingly? But generally speaking, ships either happen to me or they don't and that's all there is to it! :,D

I - Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why?:

At the end of the day, isn't it originally Tumblr's fault that fandoms began to evolve into something that sucks as bad as it does? Granted, I guess Twitter/IG/Tiktok are more responsible for the absolute VIRULENT normalization of hate-driven engagement and interaction, but Tumblr was Patient Zero.

K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?:

God, this is a lot to think about, uh-- well, first I have to untangle the actual canon story development, and what my brilliant friends and I have extrapolated based off of our own headcanons and world building. THEN I have to see if I was actually 100% satisfied with the way that a character's personal growth and change was depicted in the series they come from. There are aspects of a lot of characters that I love, development-wise, but I think the stories I like the most are the ones that acknowledge the fact that the character always had this in them, deep down, and growing is more of a process of carving away layers and carefully shaping the raw materials than it is actual transformation.

I love yuri on Ice, but the lack of new content in so long is just so frustrating and I feel like I just don't have that 'magic' spark for it anymore, but I do wanna write it? And like I love Good Omens, but while I've seen all the show, I haven't really familiarized myself with all the headcanons in that particular fandom. I have gotten very little feedback on my new GO fic, and I'm like, am I not hitting the right characterizations?? Am I putting my other headcanons into it? Like after years of Otayuri and Shizaya, am i making Aziraphale and Crowley 'otayuri and Shizaya flavoured? At the same time I have to update Makes Scents and I'm not feeling it right now

It's worth mentioning that i have anxiety and OCD haha

Heavenly Pearl's Fic Review 2022 - A Cup Of Good Cheer

I wrote "A Cup Of Good Cheer" for this year's Otayuri Advent.

Summary: Yuri is surprised when he returns home to Lilia’s after practice on Christmas Eve and finds an unexpected package from his new friend, Otabek, waiting for him.

Thoughts: I was thrilled to get the chance to write for Otayuri Advent, an annual event that I've enjoyed as a fan for the past couple of years. Stories didn't have to be related to Christmas despite the "Advent" part, but I love writing Christmas fics and hadn't had a chance to write one this year yet, so I really wanted to write one for my contribution. The only problem? I usually headcanon Otabek as Muslim. Now, that's not actual canon -- and the official art of him eating katsudon (a pork dish) would seem to imply he isn't (although they also show Yakov, who definitely is supposed to be Jewish, eating Yurio's katsudon piroshki in show, so it's probably just a case of the Japanese creators not knowing much about Islam and Judaism) -- but it didn't feel right to ignore my headcanon just to make it easier to write a cute Christmas fic starring him and Yuri. (Obviously, I'm fine with other people who don't share that headcanon writing/drawing Christmas works about them, considering all the Christmas Otayuri fanart I've reblogged the past few days!) So, I came up with the idea of Otabek sending Yuri a package that coincidentally arrives on Orthodox Christmas Eve and Yuri being confused about it until Otabek explains he didn't mean it to be a Christmas present, then I got to indulge in my Christmas love with the Lilia subplot. I think it turned out rather well!

I wrote one more fic this year -- well, I guess technically two, if you count my "Drops of Moonlight" zine fic, which has yet to be released to the public -- but it's part of a gift exchange, and creators won't be revealed until Jan. 1. So, I guess I'll just wait until then to wrap up this review. In the meantime, Merry Christmas if you celebrate, and happy holidays!

Giving this a reblog so that more people in the fandom have a chance to see your post.

In my experience, getting started in a new fandom is hard. The best way to find people being interested in your ideas is by talking about them over and over until the right people see your posts--even more so when your ideas aren't fandom mainstream. It might feel daunting because it may seem like shouting into the void and it might even take some time, but I promise it will pay off. I'm just emerging from a similar experience because of a character analysis of a different YOI character that had a not-so-popular result, but talking about it for months ultimately helped me curate my fandom experience and gained me a couple of new readers. So long story short: Be bold and talk about your ideas and when people see your enthusiasm, they will become curious.

There are fans who would be happy reading a story in which Yurio and Otabek are not a couple, not everyone ships them. And there are fans who would just be happy to read more about Yurio. Just tag your works accordingly (Yuri Plisetsky/OC), so that Otayuri fans won't even be tempted to read them. And if they do read them though and harrass over not writing about a pairing that isn't even canon, it says more about them then about you. I'm not sure if that helps, but I don't endorse popular headcanons in my canon-works either, and so far, I didn't get any hate (at least not to my knowledge). I think that people who start wars over these things are in the minority in this fandom because the majority of this fandom is more mature than that. So please, don't let this fear restrict you in your creativity.

So most of you follow me for the one YOI post I made

Okay, I’m going to see about something here.

I have two ocs that I made to weave into whatever anime I’ve watched, and I adjust them depending on the show. Various AU versions of them, if you will. So, I mentioned that I have a Yuri on Ice AU for these two to someone and they said they’d be interested in seeing my writing/drawings for them.

So I’m asking the greater fandom that follows me (which is like two people I think) if they’d be interested in reading posts about me inserting these ocs of mine into canon and showing the various ways the interact with it and the characters.

Example of what I mean by this: One of the ocs is a teenage girl who’s just a year younger than Yuri. She and her older sister (who’s raised her in almost every AU) live in the same town that Yuuri is from and this year is the first time that this girl will be able to compete (they couldn’t afford to go previously). During his stay in said town (I cannot recall the name of it atm please forgive me), she ends up making an impact on Yuri and they become friends (ish. He leaves before they can get close). Also in my hc notes she has a crush on him but I don’t want the Otayuri shippers to come for me sooooo we might not write about that.

I have more detailed bits and pieces and I might even write these two into scenes from the actual show (currently writing them into the whole of Sk8 the Infinity, do not doubt me). It would also give me an excuse to rewatch it because I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately. So anyway, is this something people would be interested in? Please let me know!

imo there’s nothing wrong with it.

the reason a relationship between a 15 year old and an 18 year old is a problem irl is because the 18 year old is likely taking advantage of the 15 year old. they might not be, but outsiders have no way to know for sure if they are or not.

however with fictional characters, we do know because it’s up to us, especially as otayuri aren’t even a canon couple, and no real children are getting hurt even if someone did headcanon that otabek was taking advantage of yurio (which i’ve never seen anyone do). we’re all just playing with dolls here.

tbh the argument about the ages of consent confuses me because that only applies if you believe they’re already having sex in barcelona when they’ve only just become friends. because after barcelona, they likely won’t see each other again until worlds, where yurio would already be 16, since they live in different countries.

Guys how do we feel about Yurio x Otabek?

I know there's a lot of controversy around it due to the age gap. But I can't really say if I ship it or not because of the views surrounding it, but I do think it's a cute ship.

When thinking about it I take into consideration the age of consent in Russia and their ages in the show, but I just want someone else's opinion on it so I get a clear understanding of what people think of it.

But whether you ship it or not is completely fine.

He and Victor sharing an apartment and bed because let’s be honest, they’ve already done this before

Yuri training with the rest of the Russian bunch and becoming Yakov’s favorite because he’s the only one that’ll put consideration into what Yakov says (still doesn’t listen most of the time though)

Yuri asking different things about Russian culture and monuments

Yurio cutting Victor off before he can speak because he’ll be damned if he isn’t the one to tell Yuri everything

Yuri meeting Yurio’s grandfather and gushing over the food he makes

Grandpa makes a sly comment to Yurio later about how he should keep Yuri and Yurio seriously thought about it

Yuri giving Georgi some relationship advice and how kisses do not work for problem solving

Seriously, him and Georgi becoming friends cause all we got to see of him was jealousy and being heartbroken

We deserve more Georgi content, end of discussion

He and Victor collectively laughing when Mila pulls her antics on Yurio

After hours Yuri, Victor, and Makkachin cuddle up together on the couch while watching a movie (definitely something Disney cause Victor is still shit at Japanese, Yuri still hasn’t mastered Russian, and they’re both children)

Who falls asleep first depends on who worked more but most of the time it’s Yuri because Victor always makes him little spoon for his ego and Victor is just so warm when wrapped around him

Victor never carries Yuri to the bed

Either Victor stays cuddled up with Yuri as he sleeps

Or he just lazily throws a blanket on top of him while dragging Makkachin to the more comfortable bed

Yuri is the first to wake up in the morning, surprisingly

If they have work then it’s Victor, otherwise it’s Yuri

Victor is incredibly lazy when he knows he has nothing to do

Luckily Yuri always knows how to cook something because of his family’s business

When Victor wakes up first? Be prepared for burnt toast and mostly raw eggs

Either that or he doesn’t cook at all

On late nights when neither can go to sleep Victor will turn up the AC and run a hot bath to simulate the feeling of the hot springs

Whether he does this for Yuri or himself? We will never know

Since Makkachin can never control himself, there was one point where he jumped in the bath with them

And then shook the water off himself

They couldn’t get the smell of extremely wet dog off of them for days

Yurio is always there for sleepovers

I don’t care whether you ship it or not

He always ends up cuddling Yuri and kicking Victor off the bed on his sleep

Yurio was not allowed for sleepovers after the second night

But Yurio doesn’t give a shit

He now sleeps there almost every night

Despite what people think, it is much more hectic when their in Russia than in Japan

Even though it was head canons from the start, this came out as way more Domestic!Victuuri than I thought it would be. But who’s complaining?

Otabek definitely comes to visit Yurio for a couple of weeks and this makes Father!Victuuri go from 10 to 100

“So what are you planning to do with our little Yurio baby?”

Yuri’s mind: if he stays longer than a week then he has feelings. Wait. Are he and Yuri secretly dating? I should get Victor to ask.

“Do you like Russia?”

Yuri’s mind: would you be willing to stay with Yuri or would you whisk him away from us? *suspicious pork cutlet bowl noises*

Yurio begs Otabek never to come to Russia, or anywhere where Victor and Yuri are, again

“I’ll fly to you.”

Victuuri catch that part and automatically assume they’re dating aren’t they though

Now assuming knowing that it’s not a one sided relationship they kill Yurio by congratulating the both of them and being their sappy selves

Yurio stays in his room crying for hours until he gets a text from Otabek saying that he didn’t all the stuff that Victuuri said

What really got Yurio was the wink emoji he sent after

Killed twice in one day, brutal
